>Introduction & Summary:

You are Katja Hartkern, a 30-Something ball of nervous energy as you FINALLY have a chance to get back in touch with Yuri Sakazaki, your old friend from your time spent training at the Kyokugen Dojo.

Even though you're still a bit dreary-eyed from your restless sleep and downright bizarre dreams you had (Something about an Academy filled with cliches, you think? It all seems so hazy to you right now...) the previous night and inspite of the absolutely BRUTAL work-out you did this morning, there's an undeniable excitement in the air as you, Yuri and her friend King are all going out to look for clothes to wear for the fancy dress gala that's supposed to kick off "The King of Fighter's: Infinite Match" tonight (The three of you forming "The New Women's Team").

You just wish that you could possibly get to that fairly quickly, as you could swear that King and her hired help would be trying to get out of her faster... Hell, the car outside that Yuri's boyfriend Robert Garcia wouldn't wait ALL DAY now, could it?

>Out-of-Katja Summary:

Before that had all happened, the players took control of both Jean-Claude Gabriel and his go-to "Right-Hand" Man Kazunori Kazahaya as they searched the city of South Town for Jean's Ex-Secretary Bizuki Iijima, looking to deliver some ggood old-fashioned "Street Justice" after finding out that she had gone on quite a miscief-filled rampage lately, kidnapping innocent bystanders as well as brutally stabbing one of Jean's new secretaries. Unfortunately, though they had managed to fight and break the spell Bizuki had placed one of the people she had kidnapped (As well as sent her off to a nearby hospital), they couldn't find her quickly enough and had one hell of a drive out to her supposed residence and back into the city itself...

>You now assume direct control of Katja Hartkern

You shrug as you look at King, then tell her "I'm good to wait fer a bit", then turn back to Yuri and ask "So, how's life at the daily grind?"

She takes a little bit of time t think your query over, then nods a little and says "Yeah, it's just the same old thing I guess... Though I've been training harder than usual with Ryo & Robert."

You note from her body language that she doesn't seem to be ready to talk about that just yet, so you try and side-step the question by saying "Yeah... I haven't really had a chance to get somebody out to fight with me day-to-day; I'been havin' too many things come up lately."

"You look good though" she replies,

You shrug and let out a sigh, though you try not to sound too defeatist as you tell her "I'dunno, I guess... I had a hell of a time getting back into the kind of training I was doin' with you."

She nods, then looks over your shoulder and asks "Are you about ready King?"

"Just a minute" she replies, trying to get the register to unstick (As she uses an "Old-Fashioned", non-digital cash register that was a relic from the building that "La Illusion" now resides in).

"OK" Yuri replies, then looks to you and says "Do you mind if we head outside?"

"Sure..." you tell her, letting her words linger as you partially wonder what's up with her today; She's not her usual chipper self, it seems like.

Still, you follow her outside and wait out on the corner, a slightly warm wind blowing to your left as you clear your throat and tell her "Listen, I'dunno what your dad or your brother told you about me, but I consider you JUST a friend, OK?"
>>
"Yeah... I know. It's just like how I think of you as my yardstick" she replies after a long pause, then adds "Look, can we not talk about the Dojo for a little bit? I want to enjoy today with you and King OUTSIDE of fighting..."

"Bad week?"

"Yeah... I'm STILL sore from getting bodyslammed by some HUGE wrestler chick yesterday" Yuri says with a sigh, then does a few back stretches that make audible creaks and pops to hammer the point home.

"Was it a big muscled Red-Head? Or a Zaftig Schoolgirl?" you ask, thinking back to what Fiona Graves & Tsuyako Horikawa could've been doing yesterday, then try not to think think about what went on in your mind last night, your dream cutting off JUST as you about to-

"The schoolgirl... Wait, you know them?" Yuri asks, thankfully snapping you out of your introspection.

"Yeah, I got to know them from fightin' around town 'ere n'there... Plus, I had that swimsuit catalogue with them and Mai" you reply.

"Wait, WHAT?! When was this?" Yuri squeals, her mood picking up at something the two of you could talk about OUTSIDE of fighting, fighting and more fighting...

"About a month or so ago... It launched about two days ago, I think" you reply, your hits from the fight you had with Ryuji Yamazaki more clear in your mind than the rest of that day.

"Did they give you a copy?" she asks, then "Dude, we HAVE to get one just for laughs."

"Sure thing Sunshine, sure thing..." you tell her, trying to smile through your inward cringe as the LAST thing you want to go through is getting your body annalyzed by your best friends.

As if on cue, King walks out in Dark Green suit with a small, Black Bow-Tie and asks "Sorry about that; I had to get out some WD-40 to get that old thing to get going again" she explains, then asks "So! Are we ready to go, or what?"

"I'm ready" you reply, Yuri nodding as the three of you head into Robert Garcia's hire-car for the day, cramming yourselves into the backseat as you recall your days in Japan travelling on various subways & 'Bullet Trains"...

You manage to find your seatbelt and strap yourself in, King doing the same but Yuri not really bothering to (As she's in the center and can barely fit between the two of you).

"Golly, this thing's tight eh?" you ask, shifting in your seat as you try to give Yuri some room. After getting comfortable-enough, you look over at the driver sitting off to your left, fingerless gloves resting on the steering wheel and sunglasses hiding his eyes. He seems to be checking the time on a pocket watch that's taped to the dash, then wordlessly looks back at the three of you as the radio comes on, the sound of what seems like a basetball game's play-by-play droning out anything he might've said.

"Where'd you find this guy 'Uri?" you whisper, noting the odd logo on the side of the driver's rather flashy-looking jacket.

"I'dunno, Robert knows him I think" she replies, then looks to the driver and asks "OK, we're ready to go to the-"

"Put on your seat-belt, please" he asks in a dark, slightly brooding voice that makes you wonder if he isn't "The Man in Black" in disguise...

"Oh... Yeah" she replies, slightly spooked at how harshly he responded and buckles up without much of a hassle. "OK... So would you PLEASE take us out to the Westside Mall?"

He nods, then FLOORS it, pinning all three of you into your seats as he effortlessly glides through traffic at around 75-80 Miles per hour, all while you've got a sinking feeling in the back of your mind that this could be a set-up for something more sinister than a day out shopping...

You feel a little sick to your stomach as the driver travels you, Yuri & King towards your destination at a rather high rate of speed... And while a part of you deep down might think that he could possibly be controlled by Bizuki Iijima or something, you don't try to bring that up as you ask him "Oi, could you slow down a bit mate? we don't need to be hoonin' about now..."

"I agree" King chimes in, farly uncomfortable as she's got her arm grasping onto the small hand grip just above her head as if her life depended on it.

The car pulls to a stop at a 4-Way intersection, the red light burning slightly brighter to you today as he looks over his shoulder and tells the three of you "Look, you hired me for two 25 minute windows, yeah? So to me, that means that ANYTHING that happens in either Twenty Five minute shots I'm yours, no matter what. I don't sit around while any of ya' are runnin' around, I don't carry a gun; I DRIVE."

None of you seem willing to try and rebut him, though you feel your blood boiling when he replies "Now shut y'mouths before I kick ya' theeth down all of your throats and do it for youse" as he turns back around in his seat and guns it when the light turns green.

>A. Tell this clown to pull over and kick his arse when he does; You could probably drive better than he could anyway, even without an up-to-date license.

>B. Ignore this shit-head until you arrive at the mall, THEN get out and try to show that you weren't happy with how he drove (Roll 1d100 for Intimidation)

You think about wanting to ask the driver to pull over so you could kick his ass into the pavement after hearing what he had just said to all three of you, but instead he puts the "Privacy Divider" up, further reafirming your suspicions that something seriously fishy's going on...

Fortunately, you don't get to let your unease show as you turn to Yuri and say "Yeesh, what an ass... Last time ole' Rob'll have to deal with him, right?"

"No kidding... I feel like breaking that stupid divider down and kicking his ass myself" you hear King reply, Yuri not saying much as you take a good look at her and again ponder why she seems so "Down" to you...

"C'mon, what's up?" you ask, your cheerfulness back up a little TOO much as Yuri sighs,

"... Nothing" she replies as the car suddenly comes to a stop seemingly well-short of it's destination..

"Oi, wot's up?" you ask, knocking on the privacy divider as an uneasy feeling overwhelms you, panic slowly sinking in as you can't seem to get this smoked-black piece of glass to come down, King & Yuri both equally worried...

>A. Unhook your seatbelt and try to get out to see what's going on. If the door's jammed, maybe you could bust the glass open with your feet or something? (Roll 1d100 for Strength in having to bust the car window open [If Needed])

You let your paranoia run wild a bit as you tell Yuri & King "I'm gonna check this out" and unhook your seatbelt, quickly getting out of the car by opening the door (Fighting the urge to just kick the window open) and looking around to find... That the driver had pulled into at a gas station within sight of what looked like the mall Yuri had talked about going to, the pump running unattended.

You close the door behind you and finish pumping the gas into the tank as you look around for the driver, spotting him walk out of the convenience store with a pack of cigarettes in hand, one of them dangling from his mouth and already lit as he walks back to the car...

You give him a harsh glare as you think about storming off towards him; His attitude suggesting that whatever happens, he just doesn't seem to give a fuck...

You're starting to feel like this whole situation is a test of your nerves as you briefly consider kicking this guy's ass for a whole host of reasons, though you hold back and simply stare at him as he walks over to you and the car.

"What? My first 25 Minutes are up" he says, then weakly explains "I had to take a leak and fill this thing up for the return trip."

"Put out your damn cigarette" you tell him, mimicking the same harsh tone he had delivered to you, Yuri & King back inside the car.

He nods, though he doesn't say anything OR put his cig out; Instead, he takes his sunglasses off, blows smoke out at you and puts them back on, telling you to "Deal with it" before getting back into the car.

If that had been a ploy on his part to try and intimidate you, it didn't actually work... Hell, if anything you're even madder than you were as you try to hold back the electricity coursing through your body right now, mindful of what could happen if your powers were to spontaneously ignite a pump or two, or six...

You grumbly something about what an ungrateful ingrate the driver Yuri hired as you hop back inside, the privacy divider down as you catch the end of the driver giving out the exact same explanation he had just said to you before sending the divider up again.

"You OK Katie? You look like you're gonna burst a blood vessel" Yuri asks as you squish yourself back into the seat next to her.

"Yeah, I'm fine... I've just had it up to bloody here with the clown in the driver's seat" you tell her through gritted teeth.

"Same here" King adds trying to diffuse your anger by adding "And he's the LAST kind of person I'd want chaufering me around."

You nod at that as the car starts to move forward at a much more sedate pace, telling them "At the very least we're across the street from that mall you wanted to go to Yuri..."
>>
>>31192646

You get a sinking feeling in your stomach though as the driver doesn't seem to go in the direction the mall, instead driving out to the street and making a sharp left and driving north at a hell of a speed...

"This ain't fuckin' good" you think to yourself as King yells "Hey! What the hell are you DOING up there?!" to silence on the other side of the privacy divider.

You again try to get the damn thing to go down as you strain to beat the laws of motion and physics while knocking on the divider, yellin' "OI! Quit hoonin' 'round and turn this thing back to the mall before I wreck yer arse!", your native accent coloring your speach just like it would in your dad as Yuri's eyes widen, the situation dawning on her as the three of you start to hear police sirens closing in behind you...

You tune out the screams from Yuri & King as they try to break open the divider themselves (To no Avail) and close your eyes, this situation almost feeling scarily common to you as you wonders "How long has it been since somebody tried to screw with me'n'me friends? Two days? Three? Longer'n'that?"

You push that out of your mind for a second as you slowly build up to your "Lightning King Katja" state, almost zen-like as the other noises and chaos all around you seems to float away from your consciousness. It's a strange feeling, especially as you usually explode into it with a blinding, furious rage...

Not this time though.

It's almost like a switch inside of you flicks on as a burst of static electricity bursts from your pores, thinking "Time I rstarted takin' care'o this shit myself fer a change" as you open your eyes, that same strange "Plasma Globe" look in the whites your eyes causing Yuri to scream at sight of you, though once more you don't even hear her as you practically rip your seatbelt out of the mounting bracket as you punch THROUGH the glass divider.

A part of you deep down is glad that you're still wearing your motorcycle gloves as that would've hurt like hell... Though you don't think too much of that though as you create another hole in the reinforced glass, this one big enough to combine with the other one and pull your whole upper body through as again, you're thankful that you kept your "Kangaroo Suit" Motorcycle Leathers on as this probably would've cut your sides open, or at least left pretty damaging scars... Still, your actions totally work in freaking out the driver, who's speeding up out of fear even though you've got him in a sleeper hold, telling him very calmly "Foot on the brake pedal, foot on the bra~ke" in a clear, near accentless voice as he slowly starts to succumb, though not without you using every last ounce of strength in your grip to try and peacefully knock him out.
>>
>>31194825

Eventually, he blacks out as you crash through into the passenger-side seat and climb on top of him, using your literal lightning-fast reflexes to avoid an oncoming car and guide this fast-moving car off the side of the road and onto a grassy shoulder. You take one last sigh of relief as your powers start to fade, not quite believing that you just managed to beat your notoriously bad streak of luck there and pull this car over without any bodily harm to you, Yuri or King as the police cruisers behind you catch up and pull over off to the side of the road, boxing the car in somewhat as you can hear a helicopter overhead as you slide off of the driver's body and slip over to the passenger's side before unlocking all of the doors and rolling down the windows.

You raise an eyelid and take a look at this guy's eyes, seeing a strange, almost glowing light to them as the police start yelling through a megaphone "WE HAVE YOU SURROUNDED! COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP NOW!"

You ponder what to do, as a part of you darkly thinks that if you try to get out and explain whathad happened they'll proably book YOU as the culprit for this high-speed chase (Or possibly send you off to an insane asylum after listening to your story)...

>The Days until the Start of "The Infinite Match" & Date Haven't Changed from >>31180892

>Time of Day: 12:35 PM

You take a few more breaths to calm yourself down, then yell "Y'all right back there?!"

"Yeah..." you hear Yuri say with a sigh, though King asks you "How're your hands holding up?"

"Fine" you reply, then say "I'm sorry for bringin' my bad luck to y'all today" as the cops get out and slowly make your way over to the car, the flash of a penlight in your eyes for some reason even though it's early in the afternoon as you look on to the cops and shrug, not really knowing what to say.

They ask what had happened and you almost instantly reply "Just a South Town moment mate" with a sigh, then tell the others in the back seat "I think we can get out now", then ask the cop interogating you "Right?"

He nods as three of the four doors open almost simaltaneously, Yuri, King and yourself clambering out as you fight the urge to get down on your knees to kiss the dusty ground underneath you, instead giving a Yuri a hug as the South Town Highway Patrol actually get to work and cuff the idiot KO'ed in the driver's seat.

"You OK?" the helpfull, young officer asks, flipping out a pad to take down a report.

"Well, I'm fine but" you start to say, but Yuri cuts you off.

"It was HORRIBLE! This guy came in and just was a TOTAL dick, ran stoplights, threatened us... THEN he goes off on a high-speed chase when all we wanted to do was go out to the mall!"

"Katja broke the glass divider and choked the driver out; That's the only reason we were able to get thecar to slow down" King adds, painting you in a favourable light as the officer dutifully jots down notes on his pad.

"OK, I can see how this went down... Anything else any of you want to add?" the officer asks as you break out into a smile watching the KO'ed driver get hauled into the back of a police cruiser...
>>
>>31200703

"I can't really think of anything else noteworthy to add... Except that the car isn't ours and he was supposed to be our hired driver for the day, right Yuri?" you tell the cop, then ask your friend who's still leaning on you a little bit.

"Oh yeah! I better call him up and ask where he hired from" she replies as the officer again keeps writing down notes on his pad.

"Any of you ever met this guy before?" he asks, sounding a little more like a "Police Officer" rather than just a guy wondering what had happened.

"No, never" King tells him as Yuri furiously types into the touchpad of her phone.

"Like I said mate, I think it was just one of them deals ya' hear about all the time in South Town... We just got lucky and had you and the boys in blue following us" you reply with another shrug, your attitude as laid-back as you could be.

He nods and says "OK, I'd like to ask the three of you to head back to the station with us if that's alright. It's just standard procedures and all..."

"Honestly, would it be OK if I went in tomorrow? I have an invitation-only banquet to attend to" you reply, nudging King a little bit to help fill the good officer in on the details.

"We're all participants in "The King of Fighters: Infinite Match" and a big party is set to go on tonight to kick that tournament off" she says, quickly adding "That's why we were out looking for clothes to wear."

"Gotcha" he says, then looks to you and asks "Could you come in tomorrow morning at around 8 O'clock then?"

"Sure thing mate" you reply before starting to ask "Thing is, we're all kind of out of a ride..." before stopping when you get distracted by the sight a flashy, Red sportscar stopping just in front of where the car you were riding in was parked.

Yuri's eyes widen as she BOLTS towards the car, Robert Garcia getting out and giving her a hug and a kiss. King looks over your shoulder and smirks, then asks the officer "I think what my friend wants to ask, sir, is if we could hitch a ride back to our homes."

"No problem" he says as you think about checking in to say hello to Robert, but think otherwise and head out with King to one of the adjacent Police Cruisers.

"So, do this happen to you a lot?" King asks, ribbing you a little as you walk over to the nice officer's car with her.

"Yeah, pretty much... I was actually startin' to wonder when the other shoe would drop and something like this would happen t'me" you admit with a sigh, seemingly defeatist in your tone of voice as you hear Yuri & Robert walk behind you.

You turn around and give Robert a fist-bump and ask "You get a heart-attack after hearin' 'bout this slick?"

"Almost" he grins, holding Yuri close (But uncomfortably close) to him with a grin on his face. "I drove over as soon as I could... You must have really did a number on that guy eh?"
>>
>>31204511

"I guess so; I sorta just grabbed him, put the little bastard inna sleeper hold and forced him to pass out" you explain with a shrug, admitting "It was a bitch to bust open that glass divider though..."

"Huh... OK, well I guess I'll be seeing you tonight eh? At that gig at the Hilton?" he asks, probably referring to the invitational ball you

"Wouldn't miss it for the world Robby" you reply, then tell him "I think I'll get goin' and leave you 'n'Yuri to yourselves."

"You sure?" Yuri asks, kind of dissapointed that you were leaving so suddenly.

"Well, it's not like that thing Robert's driving could seat more than two people" you reply, then admit "And honestly, I ain't comfortable ridin' 'round with somebody else at the wheel... No offense t'you slick."

"None taken" he replies, then tells something in Yuri's ear before looking back up at you and saying "Ciao Kat. I'll see you tonight..."

"Kay. Take it easy with that little ball of sunshine awright?" you tell him, teasing him a little before giving Yuri a quick hug and a small kiss on the forehead before getting into the back of the officer's squad car with King.

"Question: How in god's name are you so calm after something like that?" she asks, partly serious but ,ostly in awe of your unusually calm nature today.

You take a long pause, then smile and admit "I honestlt don't know... But I wasn't scared at all during that whole thing; I was absolutely FURIOUS that this guy was trying to pull that shit on me'n'me friends, but fear didn't cross my mind once."

"Why?"

You take a slightly shorter time to respond than the last long pause you had and explain "I guess I'm done with bein' afraid. I mean, it could be that so much has happened to me over these last three months that I'm numb to it all, but something inside of me today clicked and said "You need to take care of this", so I did."

King nods at that, though you admit "Kinda surprised at Yuri got that emotional after we had gotten out though..."
>>
>>31204978

"Well, she DOES have a bit of a complex about this kind of thing" King muses, reminding you that "After all, she only got into fighting through her father training her in self-defense after getting kidnapped before, right?"

"Oh yeah, that's right" you say, slightly puzzled as to why that faily important fact slipped your mind...

King breaks the silence by ask the driver "Excuse me, sir? I'd like for you to drive me out to me business at the "La Illusion" please."

"No problem" he replies, adding "I'm a regular there on my off-nights... I like the Jazz night you have there every now and then."

"Oh, thank you" yoo hear her tell him as you check the time on your phone, noting that it's just past 1 O'Clock as a part of you wonders if you'll have enough time to go out shopping before the ball is supposed to start...

You don't say much for the rest of the ride back to "La Illusion", though you're happy that you asked King's helpers (Sally & Elisabeth) to watch over your helmet & bike for you before you headed out on this (Frankly) disasterous foray as the cop car pulls up to the kerb outside the pub in question.

"Where would you like to go Ma'am?" the officer asks you as King gets out of the squadcar.

"I'll get off here too" you tell him, then quickly add "Thanks for the lift mate" before getting out yourself.

You walk around the squad car and wave at it drive off before following King inside "La Illusion", the place in the middle of it's "Early Birds" service and curiously packed with more people than you've ever seen in there on a day shift, spotting King talking to the twins and probably going over what had happened...

You confidently walk over and wait for her to finish speaking, then tell her "I'll see ya' tonight yeah?"

King nods, then sighs as she says "Yeah... I guess so."

You stop at that as again, King doesn't seem to be her usual self (To you at least) today either...

>A. Leave her be and stop on the way back to "The Imperial" and get some food; You're starving right now and you can't count on the party tonight serving anything substantial...

>B. Ask her what's troubling her and see what "La Illusion" has for food before hitting the road so you can get ready to go out to the ball tonight.

>C. Ask her if she wants to talk about what's bothering her (If anything is); If she refuses to talk, leave and Order-In back at the hotel before trying to squeeze yourself into that dress you bought.

While a part of you is screaming to leave King to herself and "Bugger Off" back to "The Imperial", your stomach growling back at you and the thought that you should actually, well, try TALKING to somebody about their problems for once wins you over.

You take a breath and dive right off into the deep-end emotionally (For you, at least!) and ask "What's eatin' ya' King?"

She looks back at you, then kind of mulls it over by saying "Eh, it's nothing you'd want to talk about."

"Try me" you reply, then add "And I could get some grub too."

King sighs, then nods at one of the twins as she leads you out to a table near the front of the place, sitting down as she wipes it down and hands you a small menu. You go over it for a little bit, then decide on a grilled chicken breast with a small salad on the side, then look to King and ask her "C'mon, grab a seat and let's talk."

She looks at you again, then sighs once more and seemingly gives in, taking a seat and putting her elbows up on the table, cupping her her head with her hands in a familiar-looking pose ("Starts with a 'G", I thiok" you ponder).

"It's... Well, first of all you promise not to tell anyone about this, or laugh at me right?" she asks, her usual cool, stern look replaced by something that you see in yourself all the time: Worry.

"Honey, this is YOUR place, awright? I don't think anyone's gonna laugh you out of your own bar & grill" you reply, clicking your tongue as simply being in this establishment

"Well... Damn it, I need a drink" King says, then calls on the other twin to get a bottle of Cognac to share between the two of you.

"It couldn't be THAT bad now, could it?" you whisper, though not too softly as the place doesn't seem to be as quiet as you had first thought it was walking in.

"No... But god damn it, I'm so embarrassed that it's even affecting me it's just maddening" King replies, your mind clicking back to Ryo Sakazaki's words about her...
>>

"Just let it out mate; I ain't one to judge, y'know that" you tell her, trying to egg her on to just talk about what's happening that could cause so much distress.

She glumly looks at you and sighs, then admits "It's about a dress."

"What, fer tonight?" you ask, then tell her "If you wanted to, I could ride you out to that mall 'Uri was talkin' 'bout and we could get somethin' right proppa for you."

"No... It's a dress that Ryo kinda gave me" she replies.

"Whatcha mean "Kinda?"

"Well, one night one my birthday last year I found this box sitting on my window sill and I thought I could see a guy running through the trees wearing one of the Tengu Masks that Ryo's father wears" she says,

"Why?"

"Because honestly, I have just as many problems about myself as you do; I just keep quiet about them" she admits as that bottle arrives, King taking her glass and downing it in almost one whole shot and wiping her mouth on her sleeve.

"Really now? I mean yeah, you told me that you had to act like a man to learn how to..." you start to say, then pause as you realize that she's had it just as bad as you have in that regard, though King did her androgyny through necessity rather than choice.

"I don't know... It's not a question of whether I'd look good in it or not, it's just... I've almways felt comfortable in slacks, and a shirt, and sometimes a jacket; I guess I'm still living that lie" King says, looking at you dead in the eyes as your food arrives, smelling pretty good to you right now...

You hold off on stuffing your face for a moment, thinking of how to respond to this woman, this new FRIEND of your's dilema... And admitting to your mind that deep dow, you see more than enough of yourself within her plight to take stock of what you might say.

If she's not comfortable wearing a dress in fron of everyone right off the bat, maybe start by seeing how she copes with smaller numbers. ie us.

You take a few bites of your chicken to hide your long pause, then tell King "I understand where you're coming from, believe me, I KNOW how you feel about this... But you can't keep livin' a lie forever and you can't stick your gender in the closet until you feel like dustin' it off 'ere'n'there."

She doesn't quite know what to say to that as you keep pushing her even more, asking "Besides that, howbad could it look? It ain't somethin' that you'd see some floozy in a dive bar wear to try and shack up with some bloke, yeah? Ryo's got more class'n that..."

"No, it's not like that" she says as you eat a little more, trying not to look like you're stuffing your face as she adds "I just... I keep thinking that if I wear it, he'll act all distant from me because he'll have to own up to the fact that he, well..."

"Actually did something firm about your relationship?" you almost immediately add, trying to finish her thought before you finish up your chicken and start to munch on the salad a little.

"Yeah..." King says with a sigh as she pours herself one more glass of cognac.

"What is it with guys that're like that scoring hot babes? You'n Ryo, Mai and her old man... It's like they don't want to own up to the inevitable" you think out loud, as it had been something that had been on your mind for a while now.

King smirks and says "I used to think it was because they were little boys that didn't want to grow up, but now it's more like they're just old-fashioned... Well, Japanese Old-Fashioned anyway" she says, taking a sip before pushing it aside and asking"You want any of mine?"

"Ah hell, why not?" you reply, not wanting to dampen her mood and take a sip, the flavor of it not really meshing well with your leafy greens but not showing it all that much on your face.

Y'know, style yourself, help you try to act like "Proper Lady", at least for a night" you proposition, mockingly dropping your accent in favor of a more "Haughty"-Sounding one to play up the point you're tying to make.

"Really?" King says, though she raises an eyebrow and asks "You honestly know what to look for in dresses?"

"Sure, why not? I wore them all the time when I was younger, 've already got something I could wear for tonight... Shit mate, I just wanted an excuse to take one last day out with you'n'Uri before I train like a dog for the rest of the week" you explain, then confidently add "Besides, if I'M wearing a dress tonight, you're wearing a dress."

King mulls it over for a second or two, then grabs the bottle and raises it upward, simply saying "Cheers to tonight then."

"Same 'ere" you reply as the two of you knock bottle & glass together and take one customary swig each before the two of you get up out of your seats, though you hold out a hand and tell King "Ang on a sec', Iwant to get my elmet back from your girls."

King nods as you turn and nearly jump out of your skin when you see one of them holding your helmet out in front of of you, King cracking up at the look on your face as you smile,
feeling like today's the day you're turning a new leaf on your life so far... But also wondeing what tonight and the week in question has in store for you and your friends.

You walk out of "La Illusion" with King following you, your motorcyclehelmet in-hand as you partially wonder how this is going to go down, mostly because you didn't actually expect your "Pep Talk" to actually work... Oh, and also because you don't have a clue as to where King lives.

"Er, if it's alright with you, d'ya' mind if we do this over at my place?" you ask, leading her out to the back alley behind "La Illusion"

"You're still at that hotel Robert owns?" King asks, seeing that you nod and replies "I haven't had a chance to head out there... What's it called?"

"The Imperial Hotel" you reply through your helmet, adding "It's pretty simple to get to from here... You need directions? Or want to follow me out or somethin'?" as you find your beloved motorcycle virtually as you had left it resting on the side of the wall facing "La Illusion".

King pauses for a second, then replies "My house is about 10, maybe 15 minutes away from here... Though I think that by the time I get home, get packed and start to drive out traffic should start back up again" she thinks out loud.

You look at her as you straddle your bike, then ask "You sure I shouldn't just head back to my place, grab my shit and head over to your house?"

"Well" King starts to say, then pauses yet again before she answers "Nah, it'll be fine... You'll call me up and give out directions, right?"

"Sure!" you tell her as you start your bike up, revving the engine to life before letting it idle a little bit. You look to see King give you a cheery wave and a slight smile as you wave her back, then slowly manuver your motorcycle out of the back-alley and ride back to "The Imperial" in record time, the traffic dense but flowing fairly well all things considered as you pull into the underground parking garage in less than 30 minutes after leaving "La Illusion".

Not wasting any time, you walk up to the reception desk and tell them that you'll be expecting a female visitor within the hour, then ride the elevator up to your room. You take off your gloves & Helmet first of all, peeling the leathers you've got on down and wrapping the torso and arms of the suit down by your waist as you search for your your old, trusty lap-top computer. After spending a few minutes to look and find it (Along with a few more to actually get back online), you take a look and find a route-making website pretty quickly. You had plugged in a route and your address to test it out before calling King back up, only to get her phone's answering machine for some reason...

"Hey... Just got in and found a route from your bar for ya" you start the message off with, then let out (In Detail) the route itself, trying hard to sound clear and focused as you're reading out in real-time (Amd without any rehearsal).

You end your call and do a few more stretches, taking your leathersuit off entirely and stripping down to your bra & panties before you do them, your body again feeling a little tight after that brief encounter in the hire car earlier as well as that disgustingly punishing workout to start the day off... Regardless, you finish up fairly quickly without much of a hassle before walking through to your walk-in closet, getting out that red dress you had bought when you went out with Mai & King about a week ago (Or so, you're memory's not quite there yet today...) and lay it out on your freshly-made bed.

You do one more big stretch on your lower back, finally getting it to crack and "Pop" a little as you take off your socks as well, staring down that dress as you wonder "What the bloody 'ell did I get myself into this time?", the confidence you had earlier when talking with King practically flying out the window...

>The Days until the start of "the Infinite Match" & Date haven't changed from >>31200703

>Time of Day: 2:03 PM

You stare at the dress layed out on your bed and think that you could probably hold off putting it on until King gets here; For now, you should probably take one last shower and clean yourself up a little before you have to get going (And maybe raid the 'fridge for some sweets, as that meal you had at "La Illusion" was slightly dry to your pallete).

You head into the shower and strip the last few pieces of clothing you have on before hopping in, taking your time as again, the warm water feels wonderful on your body... Though a sense of melancholy hits you a little, as you start to realise that the tournament's abou a week away and that once it's done, you won't have anywhere to go...

You get out of the shower feeling refreshed for sure, but also a bit worried as you dry off and put on some casual, comfy clothes you had o hand (A Long-Sleved T-Shirt you bought at that "Stonewater LLC", A Sweatshirt you found one day at a Thrift Store back when you were living in your old apartment and the Non-Printed "Camo-Pants" you also got from that one Merc Store down the street from King's Pub) and walk out to the kitchen, your sweet-tooth leading you on...

After finding that there wasn't much in there at all, let alone deserts, you pondered going downstairs to see if that cafe had anything that looked tasty when you hear a phone call from the desk phone out near the entrance to the kitchen.

You pick up the phone and answer "Yea?"

"There's a woman here to see you, Ms. Hartkern" the guy on the other end replies, that ginger kid you forgot the name of as you scratch your head a little, wondering if it were King or not...
>>
>>31221176

"Does she have sort Blonde Hair?" you ask, not taking any risks as the last thing you want to deal with issome nut-job like Bizuki Iijima i disguise trying to do you any bodily harm (Or something)...

"Yes Ma'am. Shall I send her up?" the clerk asks.

You take a sigh of relief and simply say "Please do", then put the phone down and head back towards your room to put on some socks on, your feet feeling kind of cold as you anxiously wait for King to arrive...

You take a breath as the elevator door opens, though you inwardly take a sigh of relief at the sight of King walking into the main living room, a small suitcase rolling behind her.

"Well that was pretty damn quick huh?" you ask, then say "Make yourself at home" as you sort of guide her around the expansive

"This is pretty impressive" King says, seemingly more to herself than trying to make conversation.

"Yeah... I'll miss it when I have to eventually get out of here after the tournament ends" you admit, then explain "I really like the gym and heated pool he's got downstairs too..."

King nods, then almost nervously asks "So, can we get started on this? Not that I don't mind you showing off this fabulous pad, but we DO have somewhere to go fairly soon..."

>A. Ask her to just relax a little and take a load off of her shoulders; Besides, you've still got at least two hours until that gig starts... Right?

>B. Nod and show her where your bedroom is, then telling her to take her time to get into this dress she has with her...

You wordlessly note the seemingly strained expression on King's face, as if she were too up for getting into the dress she has with her for her own good and ask "Y'mind if I could show you 'round a little? It'snot every day you get to be in a MEGA pad like this..."

King mulls it over, slowly starting to understand your motive and says "OK", setting her rolling "Carry-On" bag up and following you around for a little bit as you show off "Not Your" place, King mildly interested in the sights of Robert Garcia's office, helipad, gym & heated pool before heading up to the kitchen and saving what you felt was the best part of this place for last...

"And last, but not least, check out this bloke's wine cellar" you grin, opening the door to reveal a windowless room that sprials downward, stone steps and walls showing off the staggering amount of wine bottles Robert owns.

"Huh... He's added on to a lot of it" she muses asyou walk with down towards the bottom, then explains "He actually bought quite a few of my more prized bottles to help me raise the money I needed to but the building "la Illusion's" currently in."

"Oh..." You let out, a slight blush on your face as you ponder why you hadn't taken her straight over to here in the first place...

King looks around and wonders aloud "He's a real man for having these though" with a sly smile, then looks over to you and asks "Shall we get going now?"

"Yeah, sure" you reply and lead her out to your bedroom, King marveling at the faux-roman architecture with her luggage trailng behind her as you quickly hide the dress you had picked out onder the covers of your bed.

"Take your time sweetie, I'll be waiting for you out front" you tell her before giving her some privacy, though you quickly pop back in and cheekily add "No Lesi" before closing the door on her and heading out to take a seat on a chair out near the kitchen.
>>
>>31223857

You wait for about ten minutes before King wordlessly comes out, slowly walking with a slightly shaky balance as you see that as she's in a basic, but rather elegant strappless dress, the color of a fine Red Wine that's not quite as purple as some of her suits you've seen her wear.

"W-Well? How is it?" she asks, blushing hard enough that it looks like her cheeks are painted with too much rouge as she does a slow spin for you.

You hold a hand up to your mouth and your eyes widen, as King had somehow transformed from an attractive androgynyne like yourself into a DAMN fine-looking lady all through a change of dress...

"That's a hell of a magic trick mate" You think out loud, then tell her "Seriously though, you shouldn't have been so worried about not looking good in that."

She looks back at you as if to say "But that wasn't the...", but then looks down at the floor and asks "So, you really like it?"

"Hell fuckin' yeah "I like it"; You look STUNNING in that dress" you tell her, then explain "It's a classic style, but not too boring to the eye; You fill it out surprisingly well but don't show off too much skin... And the color is right around the same shade as a few of the suits I've seen you wear."

"... Fair enough" she says, then smirks a little as she adds "I think you're enjoying looking at me a little TOO well... Could it be that I scratch all of those itches you have?"

"Hey, c'mon now I consider you a friend like Yuri; JUST a friend like Yuri..." you tease back only half-jokingly, then say "Like I said, if ya' ain't comfortable in it, then don't wear it... But believe me, you'll get noticed and people WILL turn heads if you wear that."

King takes a long sigh, almost chuckling near the end of it and says "OK... I'll wear it."

You break out into a smile at that and stand up out of the chair you were sitting in, but hear King add "But I want to see how YOU look in that little Red Thing Mai convinced you to buy."

"Sure! Just gimme a minute" you reply as you sound a little bit like a giggling schoolgirl as you practically run back into your room, closing the door behind you as you do a little "Victory Dance" before slipping out of your clothes and into the VERY 1970's-Style pantsuit dress King was talking about, humming to you yourself as you do so.

A little less than five minutes later you boldly strut out in your socks, King nodding as she admits "I STILL can't believe you'd wear that..." with a small chuckle.

"Well, to be honest I've had a change of heart 'bout clothes like this since that swimsuit shoot" you reply, then explain "And again, it took a few firm friends like you and Yuri to give me the confidence I needed to actually, honestly not care what others think about me or what I wear."

"Yeah... I guess I worry too much, huh?" King asks you in response, a warm smile on her face.

"It's a good kind of worry though... And again, I had to go through a MUCH worse take-it or leave-it kind of deal a while ago" you admit, referring more to that date you had with Jean-Claude Gabriel rather than the swimsuit modelling but not letting King think that it was the latter.

"That's why you're fun to be around" she says as she stands up off the barstool she was sitting on. "You might have the worse luck of anyone I've ever known, but you just... You rebound like it's nothing."

"Well... Yeah... After I had a sort of Near-Death experience during oe of my last accupuncture sessions, I started thinking that maybe I needed to, ya' know, ENJOY the life I have and the friends I feel like I've got... Right?"

King nods, then asks "You mind if I help you out with a little make-up before we leave? I brought a kit Mai had given me as a gift and it's full of shades and colors I don't use..."

>A. Accept and have King help you doing your make-up, as you could use someone that's aguably more experienced at it than you are...

You take a look at King and say "... Ah, why not" with a breath as the two of you head towards your room, as it's well-lit and surprisingly has mor mirrors than just about anywhere else in the entire pad...

"Have you had much experience with doing this" She asks as she again goes for her carry-on, fishing out a small make-up bag and a pair of earings she had kept in a box.

"Nah, I don't know a thing about makeup. People seem to comment on 'natural beauty,' though" you tell her as you look for that make-up kit you had cheekily took from Seth & "The Agents" last night... Then say "Here we go" to yourself after finding it tucked away in your walk-in closet.

King takes a glance at you, seeing your form and especially your back muscles and does that "Sigh-Chuckle" again, then says "How do you deal with the attention though?"

You hear her and shrug as you walk over, then explain "Hell, I kinda just... Don't think about it all that much. Take this dress I've got on; Gimme a chance, and I'll wear cargo pants and a plain tee ANY day of the week, even to this thing we're goin' to tonight... But then again, my dad always said that "Courage ain't about never bein' scared; It's bein' scared and doin' it anyway."

"Words to live by" King says as you continue explaining your outlook on life:

"Shit mate, it took three of the worst months of my life to help me learn to love myself, and if it weren't for people like you -- Even if we've never known each other for a real period of time -- or Yuri or anyone else, I probably might not even be here, never mind on this Earth..."

"A real survivor then?" King rhetorically asks as you grab your gear and lead her into the bathroom, flicking the various lights to really illuminate the room.

Basically Nina Willaim's P2 Outfit from Tekken 5, though in a deep shade of Dull Red and with a belted Midsection & Pant Cuffs, as well as a wide, black lapel... VERY 70's IMHO.

>>31228935

"Yeah... I keep thinkin' maybe it's the Russian in me, I dunno" you joke before the two of you spend the next 20 minutes or so applying make-up to your faces, King really giving you a helping hand while transforming your face into something close to how it looked when you were swimsuit modelling, maybe even a little bit better to your eyes (As it feels more natural-looking to you, further backed up by how little make up was actually used)...

Meanwhile, you can't help but stare as King turns into something out of a high-class fashion magazine, the earings being that last little touch that makes her look more "Like a Proper Lady" in your words.

"I really like those earrings" you say as you put on a pair of "Fashionable" boots that you had bought back when you were living in your old apartment building, though you never really had the chance to wear them out until now...

"Thanks. They were a christmas present from a "Mr. Karate II" King replies, no doubt in your mind that Ryo had given them to her.

"Right... So, you want me to ride out on my bike? Or should I carpool with you?" you ask, watching King put on a pair of stylish "Dancer's flats" shoes that seem to shine a glossy black in the bathroom's over-bright light.

"I was planning to drive out, but I wouldn't mind having some company" she replies before spraying on some perfume (Smelling of Lilacs to your nose) and heading out of the bathroom.

You finish lacing your boots up and head out of the bathroom towards the walk-in closet in your bedroom, King putting on a pair of long gloves

"You need one of those long-handled cigarette holders to finish the look" you jokingly tell her, then add "Smashing... You look like one of the girls in an old photo my dad showed me when I was young."

King nods, then looks at you for a moment, asking you if you were going to carpool with her without using any real words.

"Oh yeah... I'll join you tonight; It wouldn't feel right rollin' up with my bike tonight" you reply, then add "Sides that, I only wore these boots a few times before; I don't want to scuff'em up ridin'..."

She nods as you lead her out of the room, though you ask her to pause for a second as you head back in to grab your riding jacket (Just in case it gets cold on the way over) before headig out to the elevator.

You punch in the numbers and slowly descend down to the lobby, taking the time to ask "So, whatcha been up to as far as training goes?"

"Same as always, I guess... I get up on my days off at around 9 AM, then hit the gym closest to me for about three hours" King explains, pausing to think over the rest of what she does in a day. "After that, I either go to work or do another round for four more hours, then call it quits and relax a little."

"Nice" you tell her, then add "I was just curious because I felt like I had been slackin' off lately before the last little bit before the tournament starts, y'know?"

She nods, then asks "What do you do for a regular routine?"

You shrug and state that "I get up about an hour earlier than you do, maybe have a light breakfast and then go straight t'work in Rob's gym."

"What kind of weights do you do?" she asks, crossing her arms behind her back as she stretches the lower part of it out a little.
>>
>>31230593

"About bodyweight right now, so close to or slightly over A Hundred & Fifty pounds" you reply, though you admit "I don't work as hard as I should... I mean, I feel like I've gotten stronger, but I keep thinkin' about how strong I couldbe if I were livin' back at the Kyokugen Dojo, y'know?"

"You really wouldn't want to go back there though, would you? You said yourself that that kind of toxic enviroment made you go completely crazy" King asks as the elevator finally reaches the floor of the lobby and opens up.

You pause at that, then sigh as you reply "I know... But part of me misses, I'dunno, the intensity of that place a little bit; The discipline... The sparring I'd do from time to time" as you walk over to the front desk to tell Rigo (The "Tall, Dark & Handsome one") that you'll be out for the evening and to hold an calls, King putting on a feathered boa as she follows you out to the parking garage entrance.

"Which side did you park on?"you ask her, trying not to look at the boa she has on TOO much.

"North side, I think" she replies as you nod and lead her across the sprawling entrance of "The Imperial", fighting the scent of something sweet-smelling from the cafe to lead you down through an acess stairwell much like the one you park your bike bext to, except on the north paking lot side.

You wait up for King a little, then ask her to "Lead the way, would ya'?"

She nods, then leads you around the parking lot until she spots her car, an older but still clean-looking sedan (With the bages removed, for some reason) that has a whiff of luxury to it as you hop in the passenger's side.

"I was wondering, do you want to do a couple of days to spar with me? I need a good base to work off of how strong I could be" you ask after strapping yourself in.

"Sure" she says as she starts the car up, the sound of a saxophone wailing over a "Bouncy" kind of beat as she pulls out and drives into the streets of South Town itself.
>>
>>31231192

"Cool... What days would be good for you?" You ask, spotting the sign for "Wessel's Garage" out of the corner of your eye.

"Well, I'm off on tomorrow, but you've got that visit to the highway patrol precinct early right?" She asks.

"Yeah... And I wanted to take my 'bike into the shop" you add, then tell her "I could probably do a couple of days though if I could get a ride."

She nods and asks "OK, how about tomorrow afternoon then? Yuri's supposed to show up and "

"Awesome mate" you reply with a grin as she turns down a side-street to try and make a short-cut out to the freeway on-ramp, though you spot what looks like a black motorcycly behind you, the car getting unsettled-enough from the pavement that you can't quite get a clear look at who it could be (Though you have a good idea)...

>A. Tell King that you might have "Company" and that it might be best for her to drop you off somewhere so you can get this guy/gal off of your tail.

>B. Reveal to King that it looks like someone's following you and see what she wants to do, keeping a close eye on that bike to see if the rider tries something... (Roll 1d100 for a Perception Check)

>Wins seemingly BY default.

Fixed.

>>31231513

Maybe it's happened enough that she's got a complex about it? I'dunno...

>>31231515

You keep eyeing the biker in King's rear-view side mirror, your eyes widening a little when the bike gets closer and you could hear the loud, unmistakably raspy engine note, visions of "The Man in Black" (Andrew Draco, Jean-Claude Gabriel's Ex-Bodyguard) and the Norton F1 he rides flashing through your mind... "Well shit" you think to yourself, knowing that the bike's owner is probably in the saddle today as King pulls up to the last stoplight before the highway on-ramp she probably wants to get to.

"Something wrong?" she asks, noting that something might be up as you ponder if Jean truly meant what he said about "Andrew" "Getting out of the game" as the bike pulls up next to you, your body wanting to sink lower in your seat but your mind not wanting to give King any hints that something could be wrong.

"Er, nothin" you reply, then ask her "What d'you do fer' sparrin' when you have the Illusion to run full-time?", wanting to make conversation to try and mask what's on your mind.

"Well, I AM the head bouncer" she says with a certain pride in voice that you've found most fighters you've met to have. "And I do usually end up practicing my skills on some poor fool at some point in the night..."

"Heh, sounds like a hell of a workout" you reply as "The Man in Black" revs his engine, seemingly trying to get your attention before giving up and riding off, shootoing out of the stop like he was launched from a cannon

King lets out an irritated sigh at the sight of "Andrew's" show-boating and grumbles something about "Carnival Clowns" in rather rude French under her breath. You could't quite make out what she's saying (As you never studied how to speak French), but get the gist of it pretty well...
>>
>>31232019

"Not one for hoonin' 'bout on bikes huh?" you ask, keeping the flow of conversation goingas you keep looking at the ever-decreasing speck of bike off in the distance.

"No, not particularly..." you hear her say, then get an aural treat as another, different Motorcycle and a yellow Vespa pass the car by, both heading out in your direction and seemingly following "The Man in Black" (Though you don't have any idea how a scooter like the Vespa could keep up with a Ducati Monster) as King turns onto the freeway on-ramp...

"You a real motorcycle enthusiast?" King asks as you snap back to attention.

"Yeah... Why?"

"I was just wondering, because youwere really checking those riders out" she replies, drawing some attention to your staring at "The Man in Black" and the other two riders seemingly chasing after him.

"Well, I think they're regulars at the 'bike shop down a little ways from my place at the hotel; Plus, that black buzzbomb's a REALLY rare bike" you explain.

King nods, then asks "Fair enough... Vut what do you do for a living?"

"Oh, y'know, this'n'that" you tell her, then quickly add "I'm lookin' for work right now though..."

"I was thinking about hiring an extra set of hands to help run my business when I'm out... The last guy I tried to train quit and said he'd become this big-time boxer" she says, then asks "You want to fill that role for me?"

"Gosh, I'dunno..." you think out loud, the offer fromSeth & his Agency fresh on your mind, not to mention more-or-less done deals with Bobby Wilson & Dr. Lee Pai Long also good to have around just in case you have to (probably) start working again once the tournament ends...
>>
>>31232300

>A. Accept straight-up and ask her when you could start training in the fine art of Bartending... Well, if that's what she wants anyway.

>B. Decline for now, but explain that it's only because you've got solid offers from other places to work for them (Bobby Wilson at "The Pao Pao Cafe 2" & Dr. Lee Pai Long at "The Sleeping Dragon Pharmacy" who you're referring to)...

>D. Something Else... ("Write-In" Vote)

You take a long pause after telling King that you didn't know what to think after hearing her offer. It was very tempting for sure, as it was yet another opportunity to work with someone you felt that you were starting to like on a personal level more and more... But then again you strongly felt that if you HAD agreed straight away to her job offer, that you'd miss out on something else.

"Y'mind if I take a rain check on that?" You ask, then quickly explain "I've got a lot of offers on my plate right now and I don't think it would be fair to turn any of them down just yet..."

King wordlessly nods at that as she focuses on driving, the scenery going past at a reasonable pace as you seem to trave to the northeast, a Mamoth Stadium looming out in the distance still unfinished to your eye as the two of you don't really say much after that, focusing on the music coming out of King's stereo system.

"Nice change of pace from the crap most of my friends blast on the radio" you tell her, thinking out loud a little as once again thoughts about what could be in store for you after the tournament ends fill your mind a little, especially if you don't actually win it...

"After working in and around bars in England & France in my youth, I developed a taste for Jazz, yes" she replies, then adds " I think this was Thelonius Monk & Sonny Rollins" and waits for the CD to finish before popping it out just to check, traffic starting to slow the two of you down quite a bit as a large, modern-looking building looms large in your view, no doubt in your mind that it's the site of "The Infinite Waltz" as you briefly ponder why it sounds like the subtitle for some cheesy Sci-Fi Animation about Giant Fighting Robots or something, the habits of your roomate in college coming back to you again for some reason...
>>
>>31233897

You check your phone and find that it's not quite 4:30 PM, the traffic understandable as the amount of media coverage for "The Infinite Match" hasn't been this big since the 4th Tournament (When the corporation that owns the hospital you've stayed in extensively hosted it), most of the traffic coming from camera crews en route to the "Sutherland Hilton".

"You nervous?" You ask King as you're close enough that suited traffic directors are out to direct your car to the proper parking lot.

"Are you?" she asks in-turn before turning her attention to the traffic director directly beside her, showing off her invitation as proof of her admitance to the "Waltz".

You use King's words as food for thought while catching glimpses of fighters of all shapes and sizes hanging around outside what looks like the back door of whatever ballroom this thing's probably being held in, a familiar-looking Japanese guy wearing a long headband talkin' shit to a pair of black guys (One of them looking like a Boxer while the other one looks like he knows his way around a Basketball Court) among other things as King pulls up to a stop and shuts the car's engine off.

"Well? You really ready to enjoy yourself tonight?" she asks, though you don't respond right away; You're lost in thought as you start to wonder if you're really ready to call yourself an honest-to-god fighter like everyone else around you seems to be...

>A. Get out, take a few stretches and then walk inside with King as "The Infinite Waltz" begins...

You start to do a casual breathing exercise you had learned way back when at the Kyokugen Dojo as you ponder what this night means to you, the thought of it being like any other night flying out the window fairly quickly as you sit in King's car.

King looks you over but doesn't say anything as you don't even notice her, wrpped up in your thoughts as well as the energy in the air being much more like the kind you'd experience watching or partaking in a fight rather than a social function like this one purports itself to be.

You know for sure that this is the so-called "Big Time", with cameras and microphones everywhere... Not that those bother you all THAT much, but the importance of the night's meaning seems to hit you after a little bit more time spiritually digging around.

You had, whether by choice or simply by nature, taken this whole thing to be a, well, casual kind of deal. Something to train for, of course, but not to take itself TOO seriously in spite of your promise to the Dojo for a share of the prize money you'd bring in (Which you ARE going to honor, though how much you can't say right now)... Besides that, you were more-or-less sure of yourself, that you could win this thing singlehandedly without a sweat if you had to...

But right, even just sitting in a parked car well away from the ballroom itself, the energy you're feeling tonight suggests that you're a minnow in a vast ocean of strength, that the fighters you're about to exchange "Plastic Smiles" (As your Mother had called them) with make you doubt yourself harder than you had before, almost as much as when you had first thought you were done with fighting forever...

"Are you alright Katja?" King asks, worry in her voice ringing around your ears as you think back to that day, to what you felt sure, but more about what you had said to the vision of Lee Pai Long and wonder "Where's the confidence now?"
>>
>>31235215

Less than three weeks ago you were starring a life without fighting in the face and seemingly willing to risk permanent bodily harm to prove fate wrong, though now you're too much of a hypocrite to attend a simple party for the participants of the tournament that's been the focus of your life for the last three months? ESPECIALLY after you had rallied King to put on a dress for it after stating beliefs you've carried for longer than you can remember?

"Fuckin' 'ell" you mutter out loud, disgusted at yourself a little before looking to King and put a hand on her shoulder, FINALLY replying "I'm OK now, yeah... I just needed some time to get to grips with this night. Now llet's get goin', yeah?"

"Well... Alright then" she replies, a but surprised at the directness in your voice as you let out a breath and get out of the car, grabbing your coat as the so-called "Countryside" feels much colder than South Town to you.

"I'm finally here" you think as your body motions to King to have her lead you in. "Whether I'm ready... Well, only one way to find out " you continue, finishing that though as your mind catches up to the fact that you had absent-mindedly followed King up to the front entrance of the hotel.

She hands out her invitation again, then explains that you're with her and Yuri, though to you right now her words go in one ear and float out the other as you take one last sigh and smile.

"This is like the toughest first step I've felt like I've done since joinin' the dojo" you think to yourself, again following King inside the hotel itself, the lobby not much to look at compared to "The Imperial's" but more modern-looking, that intangible smell of a new Radio or Cellphone on your nose as you hear your feet walk down a red carpeted floor out to the entrance to this shindig, King opening the large, green doors that lead to the ballroom.
>>
>>31235434

"Fuck me..." you mumble as your eyes widen at the scene, a keen sense of Deja Vu overwhelming you at the sight of the party just about to really start.

For one thing, it's a downright huge room with a stage directly facing outward, a white screen framed behind curtains and a minamalist podium in front of it.

For another, and there looks like they're over three hundred people here milling about, buffets and waiters everywhere with almost a third of them looking like they could be fighters...

"I'll go see where Yuri & Mai are, OK?" King asks as you nod, taking a few moments to "People Watch" and too stunned at the sight and the undeniable energy in the room to say anything; Hell, it feels like you were in a fight right now, an undeniable electricity in the air...

>A. Stand around some more, taking it all in some more before getting the courage to talk to someone.... Maybe you could grab a drink to help loosen yourself up?

>B. See if you can slink off to some dark corner of this impressively large ballroom and just "People-Watch" for a little bit longer; You're WAY too nervous to try and talk to anyone right now...

>C. Take a deep breath and get the formal stuff out of the way by offering to say polite hello's to The Sakazakis & Robert Garcia before wandering around a little.

>D. Look around for "The New Gorgeous Team" are and hang around with Fiona Graves, Tsuyako Horikawa & Mai Shiranui for a little bit; You could use the craziness that they seem to bring to calm you down a little bit.

>E. Go hide in the bathroom for as long as you can; You're only fooling yourself with being social, or a fighter... AND the fact that you're a hypocritical- WAIT A MINUTE! Maybe some unseen force is try to control your emotions somehow without your knowledge? (Roll 1d100 for a Perception Check)

>F. Assume the Role of...? ("Write-In" Vote to determine which character to gain control of for a possible "Side-Story")

>Updates offically resume

>You're still in Direct Control of Katja Hartkern

>The days left until the start of "The Infinite Match" & Date haven't changed from >>31200703

>Time of Day: 4:47 PM

You stand around a little bit longer, moving off to the side to let others in as the party starts to pick up, still feeling like a nervous wreck and wondering why you're even here... You lurk around some more before letting out a sigh, then mumble "Fuck it, I need a drink" and make a bee-line over to the bar... Only to find that there isn't one up yet, a small sign telling you that "Alchahol will be served at 5:30 PM."

You let out a frustrated sigh at that and grab yourself a soda as the lights dim, a voice over the loudspeaker announcing "Ladies & Gentlemen, please direct your attention to the center stage, as a short film is about to begin."

You stand next to a incredibly tall and muscular man wearing a Red Suit, his face hidden behind a mask that resembles and Eagle but matches his outfit (And looking vaguely familiar to you) as the screen behind the podium flickers into life, random clips of matches throughout the history of the King of Fighter's tournament playing behind a Sepia'd filter as you can hear Jean-Claude Gabriel's voice ask "What makes a good fighter?"

"I'd say versatility to start with" Terry Bogard's voice kicks in while showing a short clip of him running through a fairly amazing string of attacks that hit his opponent from just about every height and angle, finishing him off with a "Rising Tackle".

"Dedication & Hard Work" Ryo Sakazaki adds, his form going through a truly incredible string of parries before finishing off his opponent with a Ryuuko Ranbuu (His opponent looking like the older man that had attacked you with playing cards during your last visit to the Kagura Clinic).
>>
>>31241917

"Talent. Plain & Simple" a rather boisterous voice states as you watch a youthful Japanese guy light some poor soul up with flames shooing from his hands (His opponent looking a bit like that "Dr. McStabby Ninj" that had tried to take your life the first time you had an extended stay at The Kagura Clinic).

"The power of LOVE!" some cheery-sounding voice chirps as a rather cute, young woman with purple hair goes through a damn-near idescribably chain of attacks, her outfit changing with each hit before changing into a slightly-small looking Red Bikini, a shield on her arm and a sword held high as delivers the (Curiously) non-fatal blow.

"Knowing when to give out respect where it's due" Shen Woo says as he offers a hand up for some burly-looking soldier that you could swear that you saw shopping at "Stonewater LLC."... Though the camera stays on him long enogh for Shen to add "And punching people in the face!" when Shen knocks the guy over with an impressive-looking lunging punch, his fist seemingly on fire the same way the nose of rocket looks when entering the earth's atmosphere.

"Being Japan's best" you read, Mai Shiranui's Japanese Voice getting subtitled as different voices start to get more frequent now, the clips and unfamiliar voices almost going too fast for you to keep up, though a few of them stick out in your mind, namely Kim Kaphwan and a few others yelling "The Power of JUSTICE!" in Korean (Again with subtitles) and the last voice of them all being Fiona Graves yelling "Having Nightmares be the best part of my day!" before the clips start to slow down as the screen fades to black...

"At the end of the day, None of these people are wrong... Yet, none of them are exactly right either" Jean-Claude Gabriel's voice says, more of an opinion rather than trying to state a fact. "And yet, who's to say that one style of fighting is better than another's? Where could one prove to become the strongest once & for all?" He rhetorically asks.
>>
>>31242313

You hear a slow, steady baseline start to build as Jean's voice simply states "At The Infinite Match, that's where" as a stylish-looking logo seemingly bursts onto the screen in an explosion as the lights go up and the applause starts, most of them out of respect for how well done the video was but a few of them genuine.

"Not too bad, eh?" you ask aloud, not really expecting anyyone to answer as you take another sip of your drink as the loudspeakers announce "Please keep your attention focused on the center stage, as the host of this year's King of Fighter's tournament would like to make a brief statement at this time."

You hear a few mumurs in the crowd as most of them don't quite know what to expect, the big guy next to you crossing his arms and muttering "OK, here we go..." As Jean-Claude Gabriel steps onto the stage, wearing a Dark Blue suit with a White, Laced Cravat for a tie.

"Good evening... I'm Jean Gabriel, CEO of The Paragon Group and the official host of this Year's Tournament" he says, taking a slight pause as the room seemingly stops to hear what this supposed clown has to say.

"Many pewople had asked me "Why would you want to get into running a KoF? What's the angle?" and to be honest, they have a point. I'm not a god hell-bent on trying to restore the "Balance of Nature" by destroying humanity, I'm not a front for a cabal of Space Aliens looking to conquer the world... Heck, I'm not a rich jerk throwing this whole thing together to prove I'm better than every fighter in this room, because I'm not actually competing in this tournament of mine..." he says to some laughs, mostly from the older types who know EXACTLY what he's talking about.

"So again, why do it?" he asks, taking a pause before announcing "Because in the back of my mind, I KNOW, deep down, that I could use my companies and various holding groups to run a tournament that captured the spirit of the ones I watched with wide eyes as a youth..."
>>

He takes a few seconds to clear his throat, genuinely looking like this means something important to him as he states "And this isn't just for my own satisfaction either... It's for all of you too."

"This tournament is dedicated to all of the grizzled veterans who would participate year after year, starting back when the city of South Town was a fighter's mecca and The KOF tournaments were it's lifeblood and continuing on even after they went international and adopted the current 3-on-3 Match Type..."

He takes one more pause to wipe a single tear that had been rolling down his cheek as he adds "This tournament is for everyone of you that risked life and limb, stepping out into the unknown year-in and year-out to prove to that your team, and by extension yourselves, were the strongest on earth; To gain the title of "The Kings of Fighting" regardless of the danger that perevious hosts might've brought to you..."

"And as a life-long follower and fan full of naivete, all I can say is... Thank you. Thank you for accepting these invitations without scorn or malice or fear, I hope... Thank you for showing up tonight and listen to me ramble on about how much this crazy tournament meant to me growing up the sparse countryside of Alberta in an old wooden cabin..."

Jean takes one last breath, grabs a glass of champagne and closes his statement by saying "But thank you most of all for being who are; For being the kinds of people that accel and inspire others through your fighting, even when it doesn't seem like it means anything tangible."

You seem to be genuinely struck by the honesty in his words as he raises his glass and the black background behind the KOF logo fades away to reveal the full bracket system for "The Infinite Match", replicas getting shown on a few sparsely-decorated walls as he says "Cheers to all of you... The tournament listing's are up on the wall behind me, and may the best team win" before sipping the glass down in one long sip.

He waits a little for the applause to start and gets visibly nervous when it doesn't happen right away, though he smiles when it sounds like Kazunori Kazahaya starts clapping and yelling, others joining in to not look disrespectful. You even get in on it and applaud as Jean takes a bow, then heads off the stage as the sound of a five-piece Jazz Combo starts playing, rising up out of the floor of the stage as the lights go back up to where they were and you look around for somebody to talk to...

>A. Take a deep breath and get the formal stuff out of the way by offering to say polite hello's to The Sakazakis & Robert Garcia before wandering around a little bit.

>B. Look around for "The New Gorgeous Team" are and hang around with Fiona Graves, Tsuyako Horikawa & Mai Shiranui for a little bit; You could use the craziness that they seem to bring to calm you down...

>C. Walk arouond the room for a little bit and see if you can find Terry Bogard, Shen Woo, King or Yuri Sakazaki and see what they thought of Jean's presentation.

>D. Strike up a conversation with "The Griffon" standing next to you and see what he has to say about what all of you had just heard...

>E. See if you can slink off to some dark corner of this impressively large ballroom and just "People-Watch" for a little bit longer; You're STILL too nervous to try and talk to anyone right now...

>F. Assume the Role of...? ("Write-In" Vote to determine which character to gain control of for a possible "Side-Story")

>G. Something Else... ("Write-In" Vote)

Not thinking of anything better to do and wanting to be more "Involved" with the crowd, you turn your attention to the strangely familiar-looking wrestler next to you and nudge his shoulder, gamely asking "Was that guy full himself or what?"

He takes a moment to gather his thoughts and replies "It's hard to say, honestly" in a deep, clear voice, barely a hint of a Spanish accent on his tongue as your eyes trick you into thinking that the beak of his mask is actually talking to you. "While there's no doubt that his heart is filled with the kind of darkness I usually despise, his honesty and passion for this tournament is commendable..."

"I'm just glad I don't have to fight him in the end" you reply, then explain "He straight-up knocked some guy cold when I watched him down at The Pao Pao Cafe 'bout a week ago."

"He lies in wait like a lion in the grass, then" he says, rubbing the feathers under the beak of his mask before quickly adding "But he should know that the true king of the animal kingdom is I, The Griffon!", doing a pose that looks practiced to you but he "Sells" as being pretty damn natural to him.

You try hard not to do a spit-take at "Griffon's" antics and swallow the small amount of soda you have in your mouth, choking on it a little of it as you ask "You wrestle in that "South Town Wrestling Federation", don't ya' mate?"

"On occassion, yes... But THIS is the place that I come back to. THIS is my calling" Griffon replies with that certain tinge of honor in his voice that you're starying to believe most fighters genetically have in order to exist... Though he seemingly back-tracks on his words a little and adds "But only for my childern in the barrios all around the world, of course."

"You fight for charity then?" you ask as you strangely find yourself drawn to his words, playing along to an extent as his visage suggests that of a real-life comic book character.
>>
>>31244742

"Yes... It's something that's very near and dear to me" he says, though he adds "Though I'm overly concerned with making money through this; The heart of the fight is what drives me the most."

You look up at him and nod, telling him "I can toast to that one mate" before he turns around as you can barely see a somewhat short, young Asian Woman wearing a White suit and large, White belt walk up to him.

"Excuse me, Mr. Griffon? I'm a BIG fan of yours and I was wondering if I could get your autograph" she asks, Sunglasses up in her hair like a headband as you sip the last of your soda.

"Of course!" "The Griffon" replies as he whips out a pen from his back pocket, taking that as a cue to let him go as you didn't quite like the almost vengeful glare that girl gave you as you had walked away from her...

A part of your mind wonders "Who could I go see next?" as you struggle to burst out laughing at the sight of the Young Asian Gal & "The Griffon" doing the same pose side-by-side for a "Selphie", again getting a not-exactly friendly look on her face as you quietly turna around and slink away into the crowd...

Quit worrying so much. Maybe people aren't immediately available.
>>

Fair enough... I just hope I can keep crankin' out updates quicker, because whatever's bothering my neck today's making it hard to focus my vision on anything for long periods of time.

You take a little jog around the room, the noise and sensory overload starting to creep up a little as you're struck by how every guy seems to be taller than you (Aside from the Sakazakis, the guys around that one Purple-Haured chick from the short video and Andy Bogard) while all of the girls save for Fiona Graves, Tsuyako Horikawa, that one blue-haired chick you saw at "Stonewater LLC" and Vanessa from seem liliputian compared to you...

Which gets hammered home when you bump into Shen Woo on accident, nearly knocking heads with him as you wonder if the boots you're wearing have "Lifts" built into them... He turns and at first looks like he's about to slug you in the face, but smiles and settles for playfully punching you in the shoulder instead.

"Hey! I've been lookin' for you" he says, trying to lay on the charm a little as he asks "When did you start showing off?"

"Oh, when a friend asked my to pose for that swimsuit catalogue you probably already have on your wall" you reply, ribbing him a little but trying to hide the fact you just don't seem interested in his brand of"Class" (Or "Anti-Class", now that you think about it more) tonight...

He smiles a little at your quip and turns to the pail, Asian Man with impossibly long, braided brown hair and jokes "See what I mean? THAT'S what I was talkin' 'bout earlier..."

The other guy smirks and looks over shoulder at you, the holds out his hand and introduces himself. "Pardon me for being rude and not asking for you name; I'm Duo Lon."

You get another strange flash of a dream you had once before as your first instinct was to say that you were "Katherine Hart", but you fight it off and say "Call me Katja."

He nods and almost delicately shakes your hand, his grip curiously strong in spite of the boney appearance of his hand. Don't try to do anything like a "Force of Will" Grip-Test though and ask "How did you get to know Shen?"

He pauses, then says "I honestly can't remember when I first met this incourrigable fellow..."

"Must've been in a street fight out in Kowloon" Shen chips in, the look on his face suggesting that he doesn't quite recall either... Then seemingly drops and says "But yeah, we've been friends for a while now, right Lon?"

"I would say so" Duo Lon replies as you feel a certain, well, "Tightness" in your chest, almost like something was trying to manipulate your emotions as you wonder if Bizuki Iijima had snuck into the room somehow...

"Excuse me, would you?" you tell Shen & Duo as you look around for the bathroom and briskly walk towards it, also contemplating if that chicken you had at "La Illusion" was cooked right or not as you feel like your insides are waging war with each other...

>End Updates

I regretfully announce that I'm going to have to end updates for this quest prematurely today anons; I'm just not feeling well enough to continue... I might have better health on 4/5 or 4/6/14, but I'll try to keep in touch through my Twitter & /qtg/ (If possible).

Regardless, stay healthy Anons and hope that the bad luck of this quest's MC had early on hasn't somehow jumped over to me due to the laws of Karm or something...

Sorry to hear about your health problems OP. I hope you get better and I'll wait warmly for the next thread...

Speaking of which, if you happen to catch this message of FoolFuuka or Sup/tg/, I was thinking that you could maybe do a recap thread in the near future? We are going to start the 25th Thread pretty soon (I hope)...

One other thing for you to consider: Full rosters of all the teams maybe as well in the next thread? Just to have handy I guess... Oh, and to cut down on whining for other participants going "WTF QM? We fought The Ftatal Fury Team right off the bat and NOW you're making us go up against Kyo Kusanagi?!"

And again, they're just suggestions...

Well, the brackets have just been posted, so we can always just take a look. Unless it's more of a points or round robin system. The games never actually discuss HOW the tournament is structured. I mean, fights can happen anywhere.
>>
>>31251864

Yeah, I always imagined that it was just a traditional "March Madness"-style single elimination tournament, but you never know... And I'm honestly curious who's gonna be in it aside from whom Katja has already seen, met and whom the QM confirmed is there to meet and met (Shen Woo, Duo Lon, Tizoc, King, Yuri Sakazaki, Heavy D!, Lucky Glauber, Makoto Mizoguchi, Robert Garcia, Ryo & Takuma Sakazaki, Terry Bogard, "The New Gorgeous Team" & "The Wildcard Team" if my memory and deduction serves me right).

Also, I get the feeling that Jean's not going to have camera crews follow EVERY team around the world in case a fight breaks out... Though once again, you never know for sure as that could be done so it could be presented like some kind of Reality TV show or something
>>
>>31253157

... Why the hell can I see something like that acting as a replacement for "The Ultimate Fighter" in SNKP's Universe? Shit's freaky yo.

And also, get well soon Weasel; We'll be waitin' for ya.
