You are Joshua Thirteen, UNAAF Special Forces Division Seven. A soldier of the highest degree, and have been fighting the war against the demons for the past eighty years. You were winning the battles, but losing the war. Even in the horrors of war, you built a life for yourself with a woman, Lauren, whom you had saved. But humanity was betrayed, you were betrayed. When you recovered, you found yourself in an unprecedented world, a backwards world living in fear of the demons you very nearly triumphed against.

The land that was supposed to be a haven of civilization has fallen to ignorance and destruction. Technology has been forsaken, and demons roam the land. While recovering your strength after surviving a brutal betrayal, you set yourself upon the nearby demons. You would have been fine, but two demi-humans got themselves wrapped up in the battle as well. The woman lost herself to the control of the spore sower, and was nearly killed in the battle.

You managed to stabilize her with some simple first aid, but she would have died if she were a mere human. Not wanting to continue through the forest with two civilians in tow at night, you took shelter in the ruins of an old transportation hub. While the mother and son rested, you searched everywhere you could for clues. The two corpses you found earlier were the only ones in the room, and both were too decayed to glean much information from. You recovered their dog tags out of habit, and for the first time considered that you lost your own. They must have reported you dead some time ago. You’re not sure Lauren would have believed it, or what she would have done if she did.

Elsewhere in the collapsed room is almost nothing. A broken drinking fountain is still trickling clean water, and the lights still work, but every passage is collapsed and all of the communications lines are down. But at least you now know where you are.

The sun is rising far in the west now. Time to get the two civilians to the capital for proper treatment. “Joshua,” the woman says as you step back in. “I can’t repay you in full for saving both of our lives, and doing all of this for us. But you’re going to the capital, right?”

You nod. “That would be the best place to get you treatment. And I have other business there.”

“Well, I think I can get you in contact with someone who can give you shelter, an old friend of mine. I don’t imagine you want to stay with the temple more, even though you’re wearing their robes,” she explains as her son helps her to her feet.

“That might be preferable. Thank you,” your voice trails off.

“The name is Ali,” she answers for you.

You smile back at her and motion for them to follow you back to the woods, but you notice that the kid, Lucian, is reluctant. He’s almost snarling at you for some reason. Whatever’s on his mind though, he doesn’t speak it.

“Come on, we’ll move slow and try to get out of here without another mess,” you say as you walk out into the ravine. A few vultures are picking at your kills, fighting over the scraps you left behind. When they see you, they all leap up in a flurry of feathers, scattering in every direction. Something will come if you linger. The two demi-humans stay close to you, but you notice that Lucian is interposing himself between you and his mother.

“I’m sorry for breaking the sword, kid,” you say as you lead them through the ravine.

“That was my father’s sword.”

“I know, but it broke defending you and your mother. I’m sure he would be happy to know it was used like that.”

“He’d probably be happier to know that his son wouldn’t get himself killed with it,” Ali interjects.

“I wouldn’t have gotten killed with it! I practice all the time and if you would just let me get some formal training from the guards, I could be even better than Dad!” Lucian shouts.

You wince as his voice shoots out through the woods. “Shut you mouth. Being eight years old isn’t an excuse in this situation.”

“Don’t treat me like a kid, elf. I’m almost a man for my people!”

“Kid, I’m about twenty five times older than you by my current estimate. Shut up and listen to me. When I say be quiet, you be quiet. If I say give me the sword, you give me the weapon so I can protect you. You are civilians, I am a soldier. Now hold your tongue, so demons don’t try to eat you,” you bark at him.

His tail droops between his legs, but he doesn’t respond.

“Forgive him, it’s been rough these past years,” his mother whispers as you lead them further through the woods. Then you notice a cleared path ahead. You approach, wary to expose yourself, and see that it appears to be some kind of logging cut. The way will be quicker, and sure to find people, but it veers to the side.

You could look at it that way if you want to paint the people not in favor of dragging them around as a bunch of meanies

OR

You could look at it in the sense that they are incapable of protecting themselves, and if they hang around us long enough while we are going after demons, eventually the dice luck will run out and one or both of them will get killed, as has nearly been the case already.
>>
>>31166942
>>31167017
That is unless you are banking on Gabriel giving them plot armor?
>>
“Let’s ignore this, too risky,” you tell the two of them as you look around for anything lurking in the woods.

“But we could get help from them,” Lucian says as you pick your way through the brush.

“She needs proper treatment. What I’ve given her is already better than what she’ll find most places. So we’re going to the capital. And we don’t know for certain that anyone is even that way at all. The camp could be abandoned, or unwilling to help. Let’s just hurry,” you explain as you wait for them to catch up with you.

“Actually, we should head a bit to the right now. These woods are intersected by a road towards the Republic of Man. We might find someone willing to help get us to the capital, or it will at least be quicker,” Ali explains as she points over the hills. You notice that the effort of raising her arm was enough for her to wince and drop it back down.

“If you are certain,” you respond, before picking up the pace. The vultures overhead are following you, hoping you’ll kill more. But no demon steps foot in front of you, and you quickly find the dirt path she spoke of. It was a bit out of your way, but travel will be quicker like this.

Only a short moment later, your ears hear the approach of someone moving towards the capital. You turn to see what you have to assume Francis meant when he said Krah. Two thick legged birds, each a meter and a half tall, are pulling a small carriage along the woods trail fast enough that the thing is bouncing into the air with every rut. But it’s not runaway, there’s a driver perfectly in control. You stand in the middle of the road and hold up your hand for him to stop.

>>
The great birds skid to a stop just barely in front of you, and the driver jumps up to his feet to look at you. “Who the hell are you, and what do you want?” the man asks after spitting his moustache out of his mouth.

You glance over at the mother and son, all three of you are muddy and covered in blood, and a day’s journey from any apparent village. But this carriage could get you to the capital far quicker than walking.

Follow up question, why are we hunting demons? This doesn't progress any form of plot whatsoever, except make our numbers bigger, when they're already overkill.

Why aren't we trying to find our wife? Why aren't we trying to learn what happened to the world? Why aren't we tracking down the Dragon? Why aren't we murdering our betrayer?

We have no money. We would need to eat like two cows to satisfy that hunger, and this world dont even have cows anyway, they use domesticated demons.
Also, if our talk with the fungi demon in us any indication, normal food probably doesn't do much for us. It specifically asked for better meals. I doubt it was asking for rice.
>>
“We need to get to the capital for medical care. You’re going that way, can you give us a ride?” you ask as the Krah peck at the ground around your feet.

“What the hell happened to the three of you? You don’t typically see a man of the cloth associating with sub-human filth,” the carriage driver says as he eyes the two demi-humans.

“We were beset by wolves. The reason matters little, will you give us a ride?” you ask as you step closer to Lucian to insure he doesn’t throw himself at the man.

“There be demons in those woods you know. Demons like the taste of demi-humans. A lot more than wolves like it,” the man says as he brushes his grey moustache and peers at you with his sunken eyes.

“I told you it was wolves,” you state.

“You should watch the way you speak you know. This man is a very important elf. Goes back a long way, that’s why he looks so old,” Ali says as she stares at the man and holds the wound on her chest.

The carriage driver looks back to you, looking you up and down. You can tell he’s used to appraising people. His scowl switches to a grin. “My apologies my good sir. My name is Bartolome of LeMonte, a gentleman of high standing, such as yourself. I apologize profusely for giving you so much trouble. I simply have not seen you before. If you need a ride to the capital, I’d be happy to take you, and those two can ride in the back, I don’t have much luggage with me today.”

You nod and gesture towards the carriage. Ali and her son quietly climb into the back of the carriage, while Bartolome slides over to give you room next to himself. The cart is small, clearly meant to only be a personal transport. In the back you notice a plethora of files and papers, and the distinct sound of clinking coins and bottles. He’s a wealthy man, but you have no idea what his trade is.

With a snap of the reins, the giant birds start trying to pull the carriage again. You had been a bit worried about Ali’s wound with all the bumping, but an extra two hundred kilos seems to be too much for the birds to sprint with. The only manage to pull you along at a pace barely faster than you were walking, but the lessened stress will be good for Ali.

You lean your head back against the side of the carriage and close your eyes to rest a bit, you had spent all night either eating or scouring for clues, not getting a moment of sleep. “So you’re bringing those two to the city then?” Bartolome asks, but you don’t bother to answer. “I always thought I’d managed to meet every elf older than myself, as humble as a human like myself can be of course. Are you not from Lyr?”

“No.”

“The Republic then? Or if you’re really something, you might be from Naaf, the empire. Irregardless, what brings you here? Business? Pleasure?” he asks, nudging his head towards Ali. Even with your eyes closed, you can sense the motion.

“Personal matters.”

“Not nearly as well as he thinks he can,” you answer. Lucian bristles and hisses something at you, but you just peer an eye back at him and he settles back down.

Bartolome laughs heartily and slaps his knee. He’s trying too hard to impress you for some reason. “Demi-humans, what are you going to do? They always try to reach too far, but give ‘m a year and any of them can surprise the best of you. Even if that surprise is sometimes just droppin’ dead!”

“It’s not their fault their bodies are relatively unsustainable. It’s the price they had to pay.”

“You’re a somber man. By the way, I didn’t catch your name?”

“Joshua Thirteen, the rest of it doesn’t really matter right now,” you answer as you slide further down, in an attempt to signal that you’re trying to sleep.

“Well Mr. Thirteen, if you’re here for business, or interested at all really, we’ll have to talk some more you and I. But I’ll let you rest for now. Don’t worry about anything, I’ll get us to the capital with the utmost haste. Wouldn’t be right of me to cause you such harm by wasting time out here on the road,” he explains before snapping the reins again and finally closing his mouth.

>>
GRD is whispering to you. “The bird is nearby. If you sort things out with the buzzard, I’m sure the two of us can come to a nice understanding, since I couldn’t get you to kill the brat. I can’t imagine how much longer you’re willing to waltz around this weak. All of us will get killed too if you go down. We just want some respect in this agreement, you understand?”

When you awaken again, he’s announcing your arrival. You open your eyes and ears to the world around you, the cacophony of life. There are hundreds of people around you, but none of them are any serious threat to you, just going about their lives. “Here we are, welcome to the great capital of Lyr, Mr. Thirteen. Don’t worry about ingress, all the guards know of Bartolome of LeMonte,” the man announces as he stands up from his seat to loom over the pedestrians.

The city walls before you are tall enough that not even an ogre could reach over them, nearly thirty meters tall, and made of polished stone. Your intuition says it’s actually a coating over reinforced concrete, there just aren’t any nearby quarries to your memory, but the façade is impressive regardless.

You nod your head and remain silent as you follow the queue to the walls. The wait is taking quite a while, but there’s really no rushing it. You glance back at the two in the back. Ali is resting, perhaps asleep, and hiding her wound. You’re a bit worried that it may be getting infected by now, the first aid kit had no good antiseptic still intact so you resorted to simply washing the wound out with water rather than let the mud and dirt stay in. Lucian is sitting opposite her, cuddled with his father’s blade, despite it being in two pieces. Rather than sleeping though, he’s glaring out the back.

“Who are you and what is your business today?” a guard asks as he walks up to the carriage. He’s wearing chainmail, actual rings of metal linked together into a shirt like structure, with a tabard over it. The material is clearly so shoddily made that it might actually be a detriment in a fight against a demon at least as strong as a marauder.

“I am the great Bartolome of LeMonte. I have come to ply my trade as a lawyer, and this is a pilgrim and personal friend of mine, Mr. Thirteen. His business here really isn’t either of ours, understand? Now, in the back is a bit of a problem. We found a woman and her son, demi-humans the both of them, wounded in the woods. Wolves had beset them you see, and grievously injured the woman before the son, brave lad he is, could chase the foul creatures off and find us for aide. We did what we could, but we really need to get her inside for some proper treatment. My friend has quite the soft spot for the lesser races, and would be greatly upset if we were unable to help her. And his contacts would surely hear of it, as would mine,” Bartolome says with flourishes and grand gestures, and everything else needed to poorly sell a lie to grunt worker, and a flash of identification from his breast pocket.

1/2
>>
The guard stares back at him for a while, looks at you, back at the identification, and finally shrugs. The guard passes up the ledger of arrivals, and soon takes it back with the signature and a coin surely worth more than the ingress tax. “Good work,” you say as the carriage passes in to the city.

“I do pride myself on my ability to work the commoners,” Bartolome says as you sit forward to look at the city around you. “Welcome to Lyr my friend.”

The city is quaint, a certain kind of restless peace you thought you’d never see. Everywhere people are doing things by hand, running to and from places. Bars are roaring with revels, young men are chasing young women, and merchants are crying their goods as the sun sets on their business. The buildings around you are all mismatched and made from local materials. Some timber, others concrete, a few reinforced with stone or steel, the roofs are made from tile where wealth allows, and thatch elsewhere. The air smells like shit, but not the putrid smog belched from factories and vehicles. Around you, the crowds of people pulse along like blood in veins, stopping off here and there, dispersing to their homes, but most are flooding towards a great cathedral a ways away from where you are now.

“Now my friend, I would be more than willing to take you to whatever medical practitioner you wish but if you do not know anyone in here, then might I suggest my own?”

“Ali, wake up. Bartolome can take us to a doctor he knows, would you rather go to the one you know?” you ask, reaching around to nudge her.

“Absolutely not. We’re not going anywhere with him. We’re in the city, let’s go,” Lucian demands, jumping to his feet.

“Luc, calm down, don’t make a scene. Mr. Bartolome, I thank you very much for taking me this far, but I’d prefer to see my own doctor. He’s a friend of mine, and I know he’ll take care of me. He works about three blocks off the southern river. If you can just get us to the Gremlin Brewery, that will be close enough, I’m sure,” Ali explains. Her voice has gotten quiet and her face is pale, and she’s looking at the two of you with drooping eyes. She needs treatment soon.

“Did I hear you say Gremlin?” Bartolome asks, cocking his eyebrow up to look at her.

“If that’s too much to ask of you, I understand.”

“Surely you’d rather see my doctor. He’s an upstanding physician qualified to even treat the elves, should they desire his help. And not some back alley dung smuggler. Mr. Thirteen, surely you don’t intend to follow this demi-human’s orders. The place she’s taking you to is a den of crime!”

“I’m not too worried about petty criminals, especially if she thinks her doctor is there. You have my thanks Bartolome, if you could just get us as close as you wish, we can part ways,” you explain as you look around the city. Something is bothering you, some intangible warning. Something dangerous is nearby, but you don’t think they’ve taken notice of you.

“Have it your way Sir. Don’t forget all the good I did for you, and should you ever wish to see me again, track down the Roaring Furnace, lovely inn I plan to stay at for the duration of my visit to this fine city. But I simply will not join you in entering the blighted slums of this city. At least, not at this time of night,” he says as he tugs on the reins and directs the krah down some side streets where the congestion is less.

You distract yourself with the smells of food in the air, so many you can’t even pick them apart. You ate more than your fill while in the woods, but a properly cooked meal would be best right now. Soon enough, the carriage comes to a stop, and the man points the way to the Gremlin Brewery. The two in the back thank him and climb out the back. Lucian has to quickly catch his mother so that she doesn’t fall, but you can tell he’s glad to be getting away from Bartolome.

>>
>>31170798
Carry Ali to the doctor, ask for her contacts name and info, then say goodbye and leave.
>>
“Roaring Furnace, I’ll keep that in mind. But I have to see this through,” you explain as you step off the carriage, the tilt of the cart noticeably shifting back without your weight on it. The krah look exhausted and about to collapse. The man smiles and waves you off before snapping the reins and leading the birds off, rather than stay behind. The quality of the buildings is noticeably worse in this section of town. All of the metal is rusted, there’s no form of paint at all, the wooden beams are warping and splintering, and you can smell thick rot from the thatch. The stench of shit is stronger as well, along with the smell of grain alcohol.

The buildings are huddled together, as if leaning against one another will keep them from collapsing. And you can hear all the hundreds of people living within the thin walls. The roads are guttered dirt rather than smoothed cobblestone, and you can smell spilled blood. You’re in the slums, and it reeks of demi-humans. “The doctor is this way,” Ali says, pointing down an alley with the help of her son.

You nod and walk over to her. You check over your back, the sense of danger stronger than before. Whatever is out there seems to be getting slightly closer, despite how far you travelled. “Let’s hurry this up then,” you say as you gently scoop her off her feet, much to Lucian’s chagrin. If she hadn’t lost so much blood, you’re sure she would be blushing. It’s been a long time since you last carried a woman to safety like this.

1/2
>>
She guides you past several more buildings. Thugs start appearing more and more as you get closer to the river, the rubbish around the buildings gets thicker, and graffiti slowly becomes more common. But no one accosts you. A few look and see all the blood, but do no more. Eventually she leads you to a small door, and an eye slit opens up when you kick the bottom of it. “Hello Henry,” Ali greets the man on the other side. “It’s been a while?”

The door flies open, revealing a demi-human obviously merged with some form of ape. His body is nearly twice the size of your own, and as hairy as a gorilla’s. “Ali, what happened to you. Please, carry her to the table,” he instructs as he steps aside to let you in. “Who did this?”

Spore Sower : 6 ft tall, fungal like tortoise. Spread toxic spores through the air capable of infecting nerve cells and manipulating their signals so the demon can use them like puppets. Physically rather weak, but capable of commanding strong demons with ease.

Quick note before I start writing, your body is currently capable of doing more than your contracts will allow you to. You are leveled off at about 3% power until you fix at least one of your contracts.

And now I begin writing
>>
>>31171498
So what bird did he want us to eat?
>>
>>31171627
The Bird GRD spoke of was your Magpie, and he certainly did not want you to eat one of your other demons. You'll have to speak with him more in depth at some point soon, because he hasn't been clear.
>>
“Spore Sower had a pack of wolves attacked her, then followed suit itself,” you explain as you set her down on the operating table. The place is far from sterile. The air itself seems dirty, but he might have fresh antibiotics to use, and you’re certainly no doctor.

“You were attacked by a demon? It’s a miracle you’re alive. How did you escape? Who did this treatment?” Henry asks as he fills a bucket with water, grabs rags, and generally runs around the room in a panic.

“I killed it, and did the treatment myself. Broke the kid’s sword in the process,” you explain as he wipes off all the fresh blood and dirt from Ali’s wound.

“You killed it? With a sword? I’ve never heard of such a thing,” the ape man says as he begins rummaging around drawers of vials and molds.

“Yeah, I caught him right in the neck and twisted basically. Now, I don’t really want to get in your way, about your friend that could put me up?” you ask as you begin backing towards the door.

“The proprietor of the Gremlin Brewery is my friend, tell her I sent you and she’ll give you a place to sleep and all the booze you can drink, though it’ll probably be the scummy stuff she can’t bottle,” Ali explains with the largest laugh she can manage with half her chest broken. “I’ll be over there soon enough.”

“Thank you, now heal up. Stop stressing yourself,” you say as you back out of the doctor’s office and close the door behind yourself.

The presence is very very close now. You must be sensing its soul, because you can’t hear or see anything. Eighty years on the battlefield can give that kind of intuition. It’s coming for you, whatever it is, and it’s a hell of a lot stronger than that spore sower. On top of that, you’re unarmed again.

Whatever is coming for you is going to be a problem, especially at your current strength. Unarmed, you might not stand a chance, so you set yourself fupon finding a weapon. You raise your nose to the air and try to pick out the smell of a furnace of some kind, the smoke of charcoal, carbon monoxide, smoldering lime, something. And then you catch drift of wooden charcoal, the only hint of a forge nearby.

You start jogging down the alleys, moving too quickly for any of the local thugs to bother trying to stop you. But you can tell that whatever is following you is getting closer. The hairs on the back of your neck are as good a sign as any that something is coming for you. But you aren’t untrained in stealth. Evading enemies such as this was as important a skill as taking them down after all.

You manage to make it all the way to the blacksmith’s building and round the stone furnace sticking out of the back, before it catches up. “Joshie!” she shouts. Your eyes bolt open as you twist around to see her. In the miniscule time interval between you seeing the fourteen year old girl leaping through the air, and her impacting you, you recognize her.

1/2
>>
Alice, one of your dear sisters from when you were young, slams into your chest, throwing her arms around your neck to hug you. But she of course is not quite human. By the time the laws of physics catch up with the reunion between the two of you, her momentum sends the both of you flying off your feet, and crashing through the wall of the blacksmith’s building. The two of you crash through pillars and tables and break absolutely everything in your way. When you finally grind to a halt and get back to your feet, she’s swinging from around your neck and squealing. “It’s so good to see you again! It’s been so long Joshie! Where the hell have you been?” she demands as she hangs from your back, playfully kicking her legs back and forth.

The blacksmith was in the middle of enjoying a cup of tea when the two of you exploded into his home. He drops it.

Okay, I give. Thread five curse be damned.

>>
>>31173879
I don't think he was serious with the "Can we kill her anyway?" thing.
>>
>>31173931
Then why were people voting to murder and eat the mother and child up until I offloaded them?

This is not hobo murderer quest.
>>
>>31173879
If I really wanted to kill her I wouldn't ask that question after the thread where it would get shot down, it was a joke.
>>
>>31173965
>Then why were people voting to murder and eat the mother and child up until I offloaded them?
Because you gave us a problem,
>GRD not healing us to capacity
and then you gave us a solution
>Feed him the child
Considering we'd get more from making GRD happy then trying to save a child that has thrown himself into danger, and is most likely going to die if he keeps doing so, why not just kill him now?
>>
>>31174043
>Hey you two, follow me if you want to
>no response? okay
>Go to demon woods
>kid follows after you, finds you, stands up the a drago even
>wow, what a dumbass kid, he's going to get himself killed

>mother runs after him to bring him to safety
>she's obviously just going to get herself killed

Not to mention it's you know, killing and eating a child that you as a soldier are supposed to protect. What should I have done to paint that more as "GRD is giving you a shit option. Find another way to extract his power."?
>>
>>31174151
Outright telling us there were other, better options?

We had characters we disliked, who ended up becoming nothing but nuisances, and then we get an option to simultaneously get rid of them and greatly benefit ourselves.

Maybe you should have made it more clear that this is supposed to be a *hero* quest, instead of a morally flexible one.
>>
>>31174275
Such as overpowering him, the option that was presented immediately above the murder option? And why did you dislike the kid? And since when is murdering a child merely "morally flexible"?
>>
I don't really get it either. While the kid is annoying, mainly for doing kid shit, hes not terrible and I don't get why people were seriously considering eating the kid or giving in to the demon. I think its just asking for trouble. But I mainly lurk so I can't really complain.
>>
>>31174151
Well, a few things, we're a soldier, but not necessarily of this country anymore, the structure of government we've answered to, for all we've seen so far, has collapsed.
Also, we didn't know the consequences of strong arming GRD, for all we knew he could have been "fuck you, no more healing" and at this point it becomes a bluffing match of whoever doesn't want to die the most.

The kid attacking the drago was retarded, but not unexpected. He's a headstrong little shit. I wanted to at least train him how to sword-fight, but majority rules.

>What should I have done to paint that more as "GRD is giving you a shit option. Find another way to extract his power."?
The most immediate thing that comes to mind is some MC insight, giving us some knowledge on past experiences like this, or if he's dealt with this before, or even if it made him angry that GRD would dare to try this. You're letting the MC have the character of what /tg/ decided to play him as, and /tg/ is autistic when giving completely free reign of character development.
>>
>>31174427
Frankly, I could have justified you gibbing the kid at choice one, so I didn't want to push you too much one way or another. Sometimes I was waiting to see if anyone would realize what a contest of egos was, other times I explained OoC that capitulating with one of your demons will have long term bad effects.

And if you did strong arm GRD, and failed, that could have feasibly ended the quest if I had explicitly stated the consequences, so I couldn't exactly say that either.

either way, I should sleep. Not like this thread is going to fall off anyways.
>>
>>31174543
Frankly I was generally in favor of ditching them because I'm not really interested in them as characters and want to move on towards figuring out what's going on and getting stronger. But then again I also didn't vote for them to come along.
>>
no love for Bartolome I see.
>>
Here, let me magic up Frank's thought process right now.

Players, please fucking care about something, someone, anything. Getting stronger doesn't matter, you're already too strong. Hiding inna woods won't accomplish anything. If you want more power, you have to work with your demons. But power is meaningless without a goal.

Furthermore, this is a revenge story set in a world that clearly needs our help. But we are not obligated to help, we can be Rorschach, as long as we're doing something. Wandering from fight to fight is a backstory, not an interesting event to play out.
>>
>>31179906
We can't have a goal until we find out what's happening. Next thread will, without a doubt, involve a massive argument about what we do with all the new information we get from Crazybitch McGee
>>
>>31179953
Let's hope so, because we've been way to aimless so far.
>>
>>31179976
I was thinking having a big, angsty, "I fought so humanity could become great again, but they've already forgotten why the war happened and our great mistake," and all that. Essentially, fight for the right to teach everyone the truth of the past. Demis get respect, the church converted to a proper government, tech resurfacing and the truth being told once again.
>>
>>31179906
Just because not too many people care about Ali and Lucian does not mean that people care about nothing at all.

>>31179976
Bullshit. In every thread there has been a goal, whether that is "find out more about how the world has changed during our nap" to "head toward the capital to find someone with answers."

There has been no aimless wandering at all.

>>31180022
I can get along with something like this, as long as the angst is dialed wayyyy down close to zero.
>>
>>31181908
Oh, the goals are honorable, but to me this guy seems to have angst behind every shit he takes.
>>
Do we know 100% certain that we've been betrayed?

Regardless, can we get some more information on the circumstance that led to us napping under the sea?
>>
>>31182029
I asked that before and the answer was that we do not remember. Pretty much all we know about betrayal at the moment is that we have been, for certain, betrayed.

mfw this is actually a parallel universe with time travel using a tesseract layout of planar movement
>>
Our inner demons went on a strike, why don't we bind a Spore Sower ? cos' he seems pretty good at forcing others to work for him.
>>
>>31184003
Because if the binding backfires, you've just handed a demon the most powerful weapon in the world, a weapon that humans basically can't kill. Fucking up a binding at this point is game over for the world.
>>
>>31184003
I would rather regain control of our inner demons than bind any new ones. Only even consider binding new demons when 100% of inner demons are fully under control

Speaking of which. What are the specifics of the various contracts we have with our various demons?
>>
>>31184802
PS. what do we know about contests of wills? Are they affected by our physical state? can we do something to give us an edge over the demon?
>>
>>31184802
For simplicity :

GRD : Survival with you as a host, as a symbiotic parasite.
Magpie : Survival, and as much as it can eat.
Akab, the Marauder : You had to best him in combat, and hunt down and personally kill his prior chieftain.
Beelzebub, the Doppelganger : Life support and an indeterminate stay in virtual reality
Scath, the skin shifter : Survival, and the ability to renegotiate the contract later.
Victoria, the Vampire : contracted with you of her own volition as part of an alliance between humans and the mostly human vampires.
The Dragon : Gave you his power for as long as you act as his instrument in this plane.

You had a very good bargaining position back in the day.

>>31184823
It's just a measure of resolve compared to one another. For example, if you tried to overpower GRD right now, you'd have about a 40% chance of failure since so many of you were/are more or less okay with eating the kid.
>>
>>31185200
I'd say that gives us a better bargaining position. If we had so little patience for that kid, Imagine how little GRD would have for us~

Also, in our defense, you made Overpowering him seem overly risky, only mentioning later that we had a 90% chance of success at the time.
>>
>>31185200
I don't see why being okay with eating the kid means that we lack resolve.
>>
>>31185279
How little we'd have for GRD
>>
>>31185320
Because you shouldn't be okay with killing and eating a civilian. If nothing else, it would be giving him too much of a foothold on you.

>>31185279
that is still overly risky you realize, right?
>>
>>31185200
Victoria sounds like the best bet to commune with to start rebuilding our power. Since she was an ally rather then a subjugated demon.

>>31185304
Not lack resolve in general, lack resolve over that particular issue.
Since it is a battle of wills it makes perfect sense. If he wanted us to eat our wife we would probably get a huge bonus for such a battle of wills.

Also, it was a ridiculously out of character and stupid behavior. Why the fuck did the psychopaths vote for it... beats me.
>>
>>31185356
90% is good enough. GRD is our bitch, and I ain't takin that from a fuckin mushroom.
>>
>>31185389
It wasn't out of character. All we knew about ourselves at that time was that we were some kinda super demonic soldier that was betrayed. Nothing is out of character when you don't know anything about the character. For all we knew at that moment Mc could be someone who regularly ate half-humans.
>>
>>31185356
>Because you shouldn't be okay with killing and eating a civilian. If nothing else, it would be giving him too much of a foothold on you.
Holy shit, a perfect excuse to shut down the edgy fucks!
Acting edgy = our subjugated demons breaking out of control.
>>
>>31185444
We knew full well they were our kindred, and had just not too long ago broke the spine of a man who bullied them and gave a speech about how they are the protectors of mankind, just like us.
>>
Something I've been thinking about, I need to eventually flash back to when you first meet Lauren. Pacing wise, I think it has to happen relatively soon, so maybe thread 7? You'll be back at ~75% power, since this is before the Dragon, and will bust in to an overrun colony to find what went wrong, and in the process drag her out of hell.
>>

For some reason I remembered it being 732 years ago instead of one hundred years ago. I don't know how the fuck that happened

that being said, it has been, at a minimum, 100 years since it has been 100 years since a major historical event which happened after your time
