This is a starcraft 1 based quest. I generally try to follow lore and game, but I'm not an encyclopedia and haven't read any of the books. For weaponry and powers I’m not always going to strictly follow canon. This gives me greater freedom to allow character customisation and diversity.

I use D20, best of first three rolls, 1 and 20 are crits and cancel each other out. Skills will adjust DC, not give bonuses, for simplicity's sake. Health is narrative based on the game.
The options are a guideline, not an absolute, which is why I will always include a Write in option. Some options I list are good, some are bad, most won’t be really awesome. I leave it up to you to find ways to do that.
>>
>Last time in Freelance Ghost quest:
>You fully recovered your memories, trained your psionics and physical abilities outside of Frontier, and talked to Lisa’s stalker Mittens. It accused you of genocide and went berserk when you mentioned that you were changed by the temple’s devices. You quickly informed Lisa and are currently talking to Haverdam about it.

“Maybe it’d be best if we dismantle the devices. At least remove some parts of it. You’d still be able to study them, and if you hid some pieces, or better yet, let some other people hide some pieces, even a malicious psion would have a hard time finding and fixing it.

“Hmm, yes, that does sound like a good idea. I’ve still got my hands full with these, but I think I might do the next expedition earlier then. On a related topic, how long are you planning on sticking around? I could still use your skills, though I guess there’s not much else for you to do, is there?”

>1. Haven’t entirely decided yet.
>2. Mention your “family” coming around soon, and that you’ll have to see after that.
>3. Write in.

>I apologise for the long delay, but my Pfeiffer’s really been acting up the past few weeks. I’m not ever really sure when the next one will be since I really have to see from day to day how good I feel at the time.

“I’m not sure yet. I… I’m kind of expecting some people to come along soon. Call it a family visit. Not too sure what’ll happen after that though.” Haverdam cocks his eyebrow at that, but he doesn’t ask any questions. You suppose it’s better that way.

“Well, thanks for informing me. I’ll keep you informed about the expedition plans.” He continues working on the alien devices, and you leave him be.

>It’s about 10:45

>1. Go check out the armoury in the town center. Maybe now Weissdammer left it’ll be easier to get into.
>2. Go to Murphy, talk to her about customising the Wraith.
>3. Go home, watch TV or something. You wonder what’s been happening out in the rest of the sector while you’ve been out here.

You make your way to Murphy’s house, and you find her carrying a toolbox into her house. She’s about to close the door behind her when she sees you approaching.

“Hey Artemis!” She quickly lets you in. “How’d the date go?”

She looks very different from what she looked like on the expedition. She kept the ponytail, but her clothing is changed from practical travelling clothing to a short tank top and baggy pants covered in pockets. Pockets which are overflowing with all kinds of bolts and screws, screwdrivers and thongs. And currently, she’s also having a shiteating grin plastered over her face.

“I er.. It went well. I switched out the tomato plant as you suggested. We talked a lot.”

“Soooo… You only talked?”

“What?”

“Never mind.” Her grin changes into a cheerful and warm smile There might also be some trace of childish glee. “So, you here about the wraith?”

“Yeah.”

“Well I’ve been thinking about what I can do, but I’ve never actually seen a real one. I’d have to check it out myself before I can go much further than just adding some visuals.”

>1. I’ll lead you there right now if you want.
>2. Ask about hypothetical customisations that she could do.
>3. Ask her if it’d involve taking it apart. Might not be the best idea when you know Primus is coming soon.
>4. Write in.
>>
>>31141121

Walk with her to the landing area, if she is willing, and ask her about her ideas.

I don't expect cloaking field to be an option, although... could we cloak the entire ship with our psionic powers?
>>
>>31141213
You're not actively using your psionic powers on the cloak, it's the cloaking device that's fuelled by your psionics, and that's limited to just you and maybe some things you're carrying around. Wraith cloak generators are much larger, not to mention military grade.
>>
>>31141213
Writing.
>>
>>31141281

So to cloak from plain sight we still need our ghost outfit, the newly awakened psionic powers are not enough, right?
>>
>>31141451
Yeah. It might be possible to learn to cloak yourself, but that'd be a long training and you'd probably need someone who already can to teach you. It probably won't be as efficient as your suit's cloak generator either.
>>
>>31141540

Ok. Maybe if we meet a protoss willing to commit heresy rather than stab us with his plasma sword then.
>>
>>31141638
We also have the other ghost that says he will help us but is with primus right now so he might help.
>>
“I could walk you there myself right now if you want.”

“Hmmm.” She stops to think for a while. “I think I can… Yeah, should be fine if we pack some food for dinner. I still got the day off anyway, Tom is managing the machine shop now. I was just gonna work on my pet project here for now, but a wraith is much more exciting.” You follow where she points her finger at, and you see an old model CMC lying in a corner.

“Lemme just… Wait, you got something to eat? No? I’ll make you something too.”

A short while after, you’re off. You stop by the machine shop where she goes to kiss this “Tom” person goodbye and tell him she’ll be back in the early afternoon. He has a slight look of jealousy, but it’s only after she mentioned the wraith. They seem alike, alright.

As you wade through the jungle, you ask Murphy what modifications she was thinking of.

“Well, I’m not entirely sure yet, but I heard some talking about most models of wraith having an inefficient laser. Now, I don’t know anything about lasers themselves, but I did some research and it shouldn’t be too hard to get that up to spec a bit more. For the rest, if I have the materials, I could maybe boost the engines a bit. For the rest, I’ll have to check the wraith itself. I already sent a message to my old man to send me some stuff, so it should be here with the next weekly supply delivery which is… In three days I think.”

After about an hour of trudging through the jungle, you arrive at your docked wraith. As you pass a different hangar, you notice a large and luxurious yacht with a long and exotic sounding name that could only be Weisdammer’s ship.

“So, this beauty is yours? Niiiiice.” She quickly goes on to check out the entire ship. It takes a while, but about ten minutes later Murphy approaches you.
>>
>>31141969

“So, I gave it a quick checkup. It is one of those inefficient models with the laser stuff, but it seems top notch for the rest. There’s still some room for a cloaking module, and the power generator is kind of wasting its energy on the module that isn’t there, so I could redirect some of that. Unless you’ve got a cloak generator somewhere. Which would be awesome by the way.”

>She’s willing to do the work for a reduced rate but you’ll still have to pay for materials she uses. Concretely, these are the choices you have right now:
>1. Let her improve the laser efficiency (takes the rest of the day, 100 credits. Lasers will be slightly more powerful)
>2. Reroute power generator to lasers and engines (Takes 3 days, 600 credits. You won’t be able to install a Cloak generator without reversing the chances, which would take more work than this, but you’ll be able to be a lot more fuel efficient)
>3. Improve engines (1 and a half day work, 1000 credits. Allows for better manoeuvring in combat and increases your flying speed. Warp travel is unaffected.)
>4. Nothing for now. Just let her work on getting to know the machine for now.
>5. Nothing for now. Let’s go back to Frontier.
>6. Write in.

>3. Improve engines (1 and a half day work, 1000 credits. Allows for better manoeuvring in combat and increases your flying speed. Warp travel is unaffected.)
>>
>>31141987

Let's stick with the lasers for now, it being the fastest modification too... I have no idea where we'd go about finding a cloak generator - probably not on this world.

Does the ship has a name? Do we want to give her one?
>>
>>31142128
A ship as small and lowly as a fighter is not deserving of a name! Save the ship naming for until we get a battlecruiser.
>>
>>31142128

Actually on second thought, engine upgrade sounds more effective, if pricey so I'll just change my vote to this one >>31142074
>>
>>31142128
Doesn't have a name. And you'd be entirely right about the cloak generator. Your best bet would be in criminal smuggling activities or stealing one from a Terran Military force. But then it'd probably be easier to steal the wraith it's in itself.

>>31141775
I can safely say that not a single human to date can cloak all by himself. Quartus won't be of much help there.

>>
You tell her you’d like her to work on the engines first and pay her upfront. She explains she probably has all the materials she needs outside of some highly specialised ones she’ll be getting with the supply deliveries in 3 days. That means that after her work of about a day now, the Wraith will be operational and already slightly better than before, but it won’t be until she works for another half day after the shipment arrives that the changes really work the way they should.

>You now have 1069 credits.

Murphy tells you she’ll be busy for the rest of the day, and asks you to inform her husband that she’ll be back by the evening if you go back to Frontier.

>1. Go back to Frontier and check out the Armoury.
>2. Go back to Frontier and check out the news at home.
>3. Stay with Murphy, maybe you could meditate some more while she works.
>4. Snoop around and check out Weissdammer’s ship.
>5. Write in.

In that case, I vote for Mickey.

Wait, I'm not allowed to vote, am I?
>>
>>31142433

No, that would be silly. Naming body parts is silly.

Unlike naming spaceships. Naming starships is not silly. Even Shuttles had a name each. And I don't think it's uncommon for private persons to name their personal small planes either.
>>
>>31142468

Oh right, Weisdammer's ship would be there too, wouldn't it? Check it out, then do as Murphy requests.

How safe is walk between the settlement and spaceport? We might want to check on her in the evening if she wants an escort, in case there were more stalkers left in the area.
>>
>>31142604
It's relatively safe, but in the evening there's more people that go back to frontier together.

You decide to quickly check on Weisdammer’s ship. Murphy’s busy with the Wraith and no one else seems to be around, so you activate your cloak and head out. Arriving at the hangar you saw the yacht at, you notice two marines standing at the base of the ship. It’s larger than you though, about thirty five metres long, at least ten wide and high enough to contain two floors. If it was a military ship you’d reckon they’d be able to fit several squads of marines in there.

You sneak closer, careful not to make a sound. The marines seem to be fairly bored, sitting on a crate in front of the ship and playing cards. You’re not sure how they manage with those large mechanical CMC fingers, but they do. Must be practice.

“Hah, beat you again Mitch! That’s another 50 creds for me!”

You leave them to their game and inspect the ship more closely. It’s full name seems to be the “Maria-Elizabeth Schubert Weissdammer III”. Maybe named after his wife or something? The entrance seems to be locked.

As you pass the guards, you notice the crate they’re sitting on isn’t closed properly. You carefully peer inside to see it’s filled with C-14 gauss rifles. Possibly those from the armoury. That’s interesting to know. He might be using this planet as a stash for the weapons, but who knows what he does with them out in the rest of the sector.

You’re about to turn back when something catches your eye. The cargo bay to the side seems to be open, and you can see some light shining through it. You might be able to get onto the ship through there if you shift some of the boxes stacked there. You’d have to be really quiet though.

Let's just head to Frontier and deliver the message.

You scan the men’s mind. The one losing the game is just thinking about a variety of cruel and unusual punishments he wishes to inflict upon his fellow marine, but the other is a bit more useful. He’s thinking about what to do with the money at their next destination…

Ponthor Beta. You’ve heard of that before. It’s that mining astroid turned into criminal refuge. The marine goes on about spending his bonus from selling the guns and CMC’s on girls and booze. So Weissdammer an arms dealer? Huh, wait, there’s more.

“And that weird rifle thing he was so uppity about should fetch a nice price too. Don’t understand why it’s just just in one of the crates though. The old man’s way too paranoid, stuffing that thing into his safe. Barely even fit in the damn thing. Oh look at that, what a surprise, I win again. Mitch really sucks at this.”

There is no way stealing that rifle would not bite us in the ass, and risking detection without taking it seems pointless. Go back to town, deliver message and get meditatin'.

Maybe try enhancing our aim, or maybe practicing synchronizing psionic strikes with our firing for improved effect. Getting shot is bound to influence person's resistance to psionic attacks. (just practice the timing somewhere in seclusion, don't go on a murder spree)

You better not risk detection, and even if the C-10 rifle is an attractive prize, it’s too risky. Weissdammer probably doesn’t know of your existence yet, and making him into an enemy is probably not a good idea you reason.

You head back out, find a secluded location and decloak. You make the trip through the jungle in record time, testing out your speed a bit more. Despite the many obstacles, you can get through the jungle in less than twenty minutes at your top speed.

Back at Frontier, you pass by the machine shop and inform Murphy’s husband that she’ll be working on your wraith for the rest of the day and that she’ll be back in the evening. He thanks you for telling him and goes back to work. Seems like he’s repairing the arm of one of the colony’s CMC’s, but the building is filled with many other mechanical things waiting to be fixed.

You make your way to the armoury. There doesn’t seem to be anyone around, but a psychic scan reveals that there’s four marines inside the armoury itself on the ground floor. They don’t seem to be that close to the door, but there was a small hallway between the front door and the armoury itself. If the second door is closed it might be hard to open it and sneak through without them noticing something.

Your other option would be to try and climb to the roof. Maybe you could break open some of the roof panels to get in, but it would probably be noticed next time they’re here.

>1. Try to sneak in through the front door.

Maybe read minds first and try to figure out if there's an easier way in there.
>>
>>31145372
Unlock what vault? You know you can get into the armoury itself. the main problem would simply be for the marines not to notice doors opening by themselves and stuff.

But I suppose mind reading is always an option to find more information.
>>
>>31145372
>>31145448
Well, writing for mind reading.
>>
You scan the minds of each individual, but you mostly just discern they’re talking about old missions. Arms deals gone bad where they had to protect Weissdammer. One of them mentions something about wondering why he’s doing it if he’s already that rich.

“Whut I don’t got is why we got this tin can out here. I mean, sure, have a stash somewhere, but why not somewhere more practical? Here we are in a tin sardine can, the only security being a flimsy electronic lock. If I was one of them colonists, I’d have broken this thing open long ago. I mean, the walls are barely armoured, the door could be kicked down by someone in a CMC, and the bloody roof is basically detachable!”

So, perhaps you wouldn’t have to deal as much damage as you thought if you went through the roof. You can’t really make out much about the situation of the marines themselves, like what they can see or if they’d notice the door moving though.

>1. Go through the front door

>>
You activate your cloak and climb up to the roof. It’s not as hard as you thought, and it only takes a minute to climb up entirely. Once there, you check out the roof plating. The marine had a fairly good picture of them, and using that as a guide, it doesn’t take long for you to pry one open. You damaged the side a bit, but unless they actually take the time to inspect the roof they probably won’t notice if it’s put back into place.

You drop down, and one of the first things you notice is how much emptier the place is. A lot of the ammo is gone, and quickly checking the hidden room confirms that the rifle is on Weissdammer’s ship now. About half of the hand cannons and their ammo are gone, and you quickly take one and take enough ammo to last you quite a while. There’s still plenty left, they probably won’t notice.

>You gained one additional hand cannon and 10 extra clips of 12 bullets.

You head down as quietly as you can, and in the first room, it seems most of the CMC’s are gone. There’s only 2 left, but there were over a dozen before. Entering the second room, you find the marines sitting down on a few empty crates, drinking beer. They’ve gone to talking about the next mission, selling the weapons to some pirates, and apparently the C-10 rifle is being bought by a weapon collector somewhere in the rim.

The room itself has changed too. All of the C-14’s have been removed, along with several other kinds of weapons, but they’ve mostly been replaced by heavier weapons like tripod mounted cannons and rocket launchers. Seems they immediately restocked a bit too.

Yeah this is pretty much the most idiotic reversal of a previous decision possible.

Two times over, even.

It was decided not to steal shit and get attention back during the first break-in, for good reason.

And didn't even steal the C-10 that he explicitly wouldn't notice was gone until he'd already left the planet because... why again?

Yet somehow this now is a good idea.

I'm still pissed we didn't do that just because of one vote being late. I hope we can do it now without fucking things up, because if we miss out on that C-10 just because of one late vote I'm gonna be fucking angry.
