"M-my daughter...Give me my daughter back!!"

Daughter?

Today has been just like yesterday, tomorrow will be just like today. A new surprise behind every corner...or LCD screen as the case may be. You stare curiously at the frantic woman on the screen, her constant hopping and shouting at the security camera amusing you more than it really should. While the garment she has on is a plain white color, you can tell it was expertly crafted. In fact, you can't see any seams on it at all. More importantly, the sections below her elbows and knees are covered with a hard, black chitin which seems to move freely along with her joints. Rather than a glove, you're certain this carapace is simply a part of her body. A second set of limbs juts out from her back, covered with the same chitin, but tipped with sharp looking spikes instead of hands and feat. You might have had some doubts before, but those features make it as plain as day: this woman is as inhuman as she claims to be.

Mother Weaver, she called herself. You look back to the holding cell behind you and see your captive, Arachne. The two are practically identical, with the only meaningful difference being a bright red dot in the middle of Weaver's head. Rather than mother and daughter, they're more like twins...

Beside the strange, hopping spider-woman is another inhuman creature. Once more, the basic form seems regular enough, but there's something off about the way her skin looks. It's obviously flesh and blood, but it is broken up by strange lines at regular intervals. Instead of the normal features of elbows, knees, and knuckles, she has what appears to be hinges, servos, and other strange bits and pieces It appears she is acting as an interpreter between you and Weaver.

Anyway, you should probably say something before this gets out of hand.

>Are they really spiders?
>What happened to the "law of the wild?"
>Tease Mother Weaver.

What
>>
>>31108434
So just what happened to the "law of the wild"? Wasn't this whole ultimatum about letting the strongest survive? Not that you don't find it humorous on a personal level, but watching the opposing side instantly give in the moment one of them gets captured is not what you expected of the wild Renegade Beings who chose to live with nature. The artificial woman nods at the camera and then turns to her superior to relate the message.

"T-that is that! This is this! You're not a parent, you don't understand!"

It seems she's going to be inconsolable while she's worried about her daughter.

"If I may, Mr. Assailant," Weaver's assistant speaks up, "My name is Elle. Elle Iidee. I serve as Mother Weaver's second in command. As my commander is currently out of her right mind, I would like to negotiate terms for a mutual cease fire. If amicable, I shall relay this to the other members of our splinter group."

You look to Chief, then to Hawkeye. Chief gives you a tentative nod and steps aside, apparently leaving the decision up to you. Hawkeye, however, gives you a signal to cut off negotiations. Both are okay ideas, you suppose. You could always head to the back and get a third opinion if you really think you need it. Either way, you'll need to answer Elle before you can do anything.

Yeah, sure you can negotiate.

Out of the corner of your eye, you see Hawkeye cross his arms and turn away. Chief immediately jumps, apparently unaware of his disapproval and goes about apologizing for your insolence and making comforting gestures. Somehow, it really pisses you off. You grit your teeth and return your attention to the monitor.

"Then, shall we not meet somewhere neutral? You can keep Arachne in your quarters for now, but I request that two of you come to the central dining area in one hour to discuss matters with us. You must come, Mr. Assailant, but you are free to choose who you may take with you. If these terms please you, I look forward to a fruitful discussion, and hopefully a peaceful resolution to his matter."

With that, Elle begins to shoo Weaver out of the sight of the cameras. You begin to wonder who is really in charge of Xenos, but nevertheless, you've been given a time and a place. You return your attention to the two chiefs.

"I cannot believe you would negotiate with these inhuman terrorists, Noble Blood. I believed you to be dedicated to the cause of justice!"

"But I am, Hawkeye! I merely wished to--"

"You have overstepped your bounds in my jurisdiction! Were we not peers, this is an action which would see severe consequences!"

Chief puts a hand to her face, and you see her choke back a sob.

"I-I'm sorry..."

Chief turns away swiftly, scattering tears behind her as she runs to the other side of the room. You feel like you should do something, but your utter lack of experience in this area roots you to the spot. You mentally switch gears, thinking about the new task at hand. Right, you have to bring someone along with you...

Hawkeye's a dick who'll prevent any peace. Chief's just been yelled down by Hawkeye, and so will prevent any peace.
Diabloli's just asking for problems, as is taking the hostage there.
Realistically, if we want any backup (and we do) it has to be Claire.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of it like that. That's certainly possible, but I feel like Chief is such a stone-cold tsundere that she'd never admit it in a million years. It's like Claire said, Chief would like it if Cap took initiative toward her. (she actually said Chief was into being taken by force, but we can assume..)

>>31109721
Bueno.
>>
>>31109725

>>
>>31109763
Fair enough, I just don't see how we could have a fair fight without Rin and Fallen angel suddenly showing up to help us out. And even then I see it ending in a tie...
>>
>>31109787
There's nothing wrong with his methods. We just don't like him as a person.
>>
>>31109725
We should ask him what he thinks of the maid.

Also, where is meido? I think she might be a good choice to bring along.
>>
>>31109770
I doubt it.
Plus, if his actions are anything to go by, he'll get pissy about Chief going against his will anyway, regardless of the results.
He seems like enough of a control freak to want everything to go exactly his way, especially while we're in his home.
Really, by not picking Chief, we're doing her a favour, as it doesn't force her to choose between doing what is right and what her idol wants.
>>
>>31109787
She'd find a way to twist that into seeing it as an attempt by us at character assassination.
It'd push her further from us and closer to him.
Frankly, the best thing we can do is let him keep acting like a dick to her, while we don't.
>>
>>31109826
The maid wasn't invited, so she's back at our place. Also, I don't want to out the meido in case Hawkeye decides to confiscate our housecleaner and only normal being in this quest.

You think that bringing the section chiefs along right now wouldn't be the most bright of ideas. One seems very opposed to negotiating and all and the other is...a crying girl. You don't know how to handle crying girls, so you won't!

You step back into the Holding Cell to find a strange sight. Claire has pushed Seven's chair to the ground, and is holding the girl down with her foot. Seven appears to have been covered with a white t-shirt, knee socks, and a pair of panties. She is violently thrashing about in her bindings, snarling curses and insults at Claire. For her part, Claire is giving Seven a particularly cold look. In one hand, she holds a jersey and what looks like...bloomers? In her other hand, she keeps her signature firearm leveled at Seven's head. Arachne is cowering in the corner, sobbing.

"...I will not tell you again, Subject Seven. I do not particularly mind you being nude, but you will not spoil darling's debut with your nudist tenden--ah, Captain."

Both Seven and Claire look up at you, but in that moment of distraction, your partner takes this opportunity to slide the bloomers on Seven's body. The smaller girl seems very unenthused about being dressed...

"Can I help you with something, Captain?"

Of course you'll be taking Claire. What kind of guy would take along a psychopath like Seven? Upon asking for her help, Claire practically jumps to your side, her previous coldness having vanished in an instant.

"I'm overjoyed that you wanted my company, Captain. I promise to not embarrass you on this important mission."

The freshly clothed Seven glares at the two of you, righting her chair with the use of her long mane. She hops over to you and delivers a feeble kick to your shin.

"Hey, asshole! Take me too!"

Before you know it, Claire is at eye level with Seven, delivering an unblinking stare at your prisoner.

"You will treat Captain with more respect than that. Furthermore, you are under watch for having escaped your cell. What reason do you have to cut into my alone time with...no, to interfere with this important mission?"

Seven pales, shrinking back in her seat.

"I...uh...can help! Yeah. You can sneak me in! Remember that thread trick? I'm not trying to escape, honest!"

You don't really trust Seven here, but it is true that she can be a trump card if you need it. You don't feel safe keeping her on your person anymore...

"Allow me, Captain. Subject Seven does have a point. An advantage in this situation may be all that keeps this negotiation from turning into an ambush."

"No, I really was more interested in-"

Claire turns back to Seven, her blank face showing no sign of hesitation. She undoes the bindings on Seven and pulls her out of the chair.

"A ribbon. I want a ribbon, Subject Seven. And if you attempt to escape..."

The terrorist sighs, and you see her body reform itself into a long, silky red ribbon. Claire snatches the material up and ties it into her hair. It does look pretty cute...but you can't get over how it's really Seven.

"Now then, is there something you'd like to do first? Or shall we proceed to the meeting early?"

You think you'd better clear what you're doing with the Chief first. After all, she might not be your boss, but she's still...um...what is she? Well never mind that, you still need to go talk this over with her anyway. When you get back to the Chief, she seems to have regained some of her composure. While her eyes are a little red and puffy, she otherwise looks just fine. She's lucky that she doesn't need to wear makeup, otherwise it would have been utterly ruined.

"Yes, Wild Card? You're going out to meet them with Claire? A good choice. She's been part of many of my negotiations, so she will smooth things over if you make a misstep...Did you have anything specific you wanted to ask?"

Well, how about the basics? You don't know the first thing about negotiating.

"Oh...oh dear. Just, just try to not be yourself. Imagine someone much more sophisticated and gentle."

Right. That's very helpful.

You find yourself in the banquet hall once more, waiting around for your erstwhile hunters to show up for a talk. You've righted some of the tables and cleared away most of the food from the floor. Such a shame it was all wasted. You suppose it was a good thing that this happened during the rehearsal dinner instead of the proper dinner tomorrow...not that you're particularly interested in an Overed mixer.

You look over to Claire, who is standing by patiently. She has her hands folded in her lap and has taken a modest and dignified pose for a change. Normally, you don't pay it any attention, but like this you can really see it for yourself. Claire is very pretty. The sharp suit she's wearing and the way she tied her ribbon make a contrast between a professional appeal and a touch of femininity that you can't help but think is cute. Claire notices your gaze and returns your look, her cheeks turning Seven's trademark red.

You shake your head. No matter what passing thoughts you may have, the fact remains that Claire is a weirdo. You'll get rid of her someday, right? Right?

At the end of the banquet hall, the doors swing open. In walks Mother Weaver, with Elle in tow. Looks like they're ready to begin talks. You get up and consider how you should best approach this...

You don't see any reason to put on airs. You're both here because you want to get this over with quickly. You give the two an idle wave and motion them over to the table where you're sitting. Before you even finish the gesture, however, Claire has gotten up to meet them, shaking their hands and bowing deeply.

"Very good to meet you. I am simply an aide today, but I hope to make this talk go as smoothly as possible."

Hm. Is she already covering for you? No, no, couldn't be. Elle and Weaver come over to your table and have a seat. Weaver still seems as distraught as ever, so it's only natural that Elle speaks up first. She hands Weaver what looks like a tissue, and then folds her hands on the table, apparently ready to open up negotiations.

"Good evening. I see that you have accepted our terms, so why don't we first begin with something we can both agree on. You would like to leave this place, yes?"

Of course you would, what kind of question is that?

"Good, then shall we discuss the terms upon which all parties will remove themselves from the premises?"

Wait, what? Everyone leaves tonight? That seems a little easy...

Don't you have that mixer you have to go to tomorrow? You can't just clear out of here tonight. Even if you did, odds are a bunch of people would just show up tomorrow and ruin the whole deal. Isn't there something else Xenos can consider, or can they at least postpone this thing until this party is resolved?

"..What's a mixer?"

Weaver seems to have collected herself, finally, and cocks her eyebrow at you. Oh right. These guys have never lived in human society, have they? They would have never known about something like this. How do you best explain this...? Maybe just focus on how it's a party with a lot of people and plenty of food? They probably wouldn't get the other portions of it--even you don't get those parts very well.

"F-food? More than what was here tonight?"

You're pretty sure. Hawkeye overdid it, but there's bound to be more goods tomorrow since there's going to be a much bigger crowd. These guys...were they really starving or something?

"No, we weren't starving or anything. But, uh, maybe we could consider putting all this behind us if you give me my daughter back and let us eat our fill tomorrow? Call it even?"

...This is pathetic, really. Where did all that concern for her flesh and blood go? You're beginning to think that this entire raid was just about filling their stomachs and nothing more. Is Xenos just a bunch of starving weirdos in the wilderness? Are they all like this?

We need to find out how many are coming/allowed. More due to the fact that they are potential hostiles, and we need to make sure the number is one UGN is comfortable in handling.
Plus we need to hammer out the details of this hostage turnover a little more clearly. I'd like to keep Arachne until the party is over, not necessarily in full lockup, but at least chaperoned. You don't want to agree to something blindly...for a change.

"Ahh, well, there's about thirty of us. Nineteen of my daughters, and then ten others, including Elle here. We've been squatti--staying in these woods for about two years now. Before that, we were part of the main branch of Xenos and sort of travelled around with the rest of them."

Main branch?

"We were kind of...kicked out. Seems our leader didn't think we were contributing very much to her overall plan, so she just left without us one day. B-but we're still valued members of Xenos overall! Fighting the good fight for our kind!"

Fine. If it'll get you out of this mess, they can come to the mixer tomorrow. It's not like you were going to really enjoy that particular party anyway, what's another thirty weirdos in attendance?

"Oh fantastic! Then as soon as you let my daughter go, I'll release the castle from stasis."

You give Weaver a nod and get up from the table. Claire follows suit, making sure to thank them and shake their hands as you make your way back toward the safe room. You let out a sigh of relief the moment you're out of your guest's view. You're glad all that's over, and what's more, it was resolved peacefully for a change. Why can't everything be this easy?

"Splendid work as always, Captain. You were able to deduce the needs of others while still meeting your own. A valuable quality in a negotiator and a lover. Of course, my only need is you, Captain..."

Claire steps up next to you and ruffles your hair. You valiantly resist the urge to knock her upside the head.

"Ugh, shut up about that. Hey, can I go back now? I'm seriously tired of being a scrap of cloth!" Seven flaps around energetically on the side of Claire's head, clearly capable of emoting even without a human form.

"No, I noticed Captain rather liked the way we looked together. I believe I shall use you as an accessory for a while longer. I will hear no complaints."

Seven immediately goes limp and grumbles.

"What!? Absolutely out of the question! This event was to re-establish human bonds between our members. The emphasis here is on 'human'!"

Describing Hawkeye as furious would be an understatement. He kicks over his chair and fumes. Chief is currently trying to calm him down, but to no avail.

"Now Hawkeye, sir...we stand to gain from this. P-perhaps we could add these Renegades to the UGN? Wouldn't that be in line with our mission?"

Hawkeye merely glares at her for a moment before shoving her away. He goes into the holding cell and drags out Arachne. He sets her by the door before cutting her bonds.

"A deal is a deal. Even if I don't approve of it, I will honor the agreement Mr. Wild Card made in our stead. Go back to your family."

The steel doors open on Hawkeye's command and Arachne bolts out of the room. Finished with his task, Hawkeye storms over to you. He attempts to stare you down, but he's forced to stand on his toes to meet your eyes. It sort of ruins the effect.

"For this embarrassment, I think I'll have some disciplinary actions for you tomorrow. Your chief will back me on this, right?"

Chief visibly winces at Hawkeye's words and nods weakly. Great time to lose your spine, Chief.

"Good. You had better be ready for some hard work, Wild Card. I've got a special job for you in mind."

I really shouldn't ask, but kneesocks or thigh-highs? With garters or without?

Deviancy aside, it was sweet to see Captain pay Claire an unqualified compliment, for however brief a time. He's never had a chance to get away, has he?
>>
>>31113232
Clearly Hawkeye is a very dedicated reverse-trap.

Huh, would have expected you to go with bust size over pantsu type. You learn something new about your OP every thread.

Whoah now, son, socks are an entirely different category.

Claire will always be his sidekick, no matter what.

Panties tell you so much about a girl. They're one of the most important facts to learn!

>Panties tell you so much about a girl
I can't argue with that.

Awww. That's all she's ever wanted, isn't it?

>Claire will always be his sidekick, no matter what.
Not as long as I play.
>>
>>31113332
Aww, we're totally her mark. Claire's in deep cover as herself, right DXR?
>>
>>31113388
Well, she also really really wants to bear his children (at least three) but you already knew that. It's like right after being his sidekick on the list of things Claire wants.
>>
>>31113401
I...what?
>>
>>31113419
Not quite as endearing, but much more amusing. Boy and two girls or two boys and one girl?

What else is on that list? Besides a proton pack, obviously.
>>
>>31113443
World peace, become a bride, have a nice home with a garden, to see her enemies driven before her and hear the lamentations of their women
>>
>>31113436
...my hairbrained theory (which was meant as a joke I should tell you) was that Claire is actually Battle Doll under cover as Speeding Bullets. So she's basically playing a version of herself that's besotted with Captain, but we don't know if that fixation is becoming real or if it's just an act,
>>
>>31113481
Oh, I see. That is a hairbrained theory.
>>
>>31113436
He means that Claire's role with the UGN is to be by Captain's side, so she's decided to do it by doing exactly what she wants, which is sticking to his side.

Always a nice thing to see on someone's list of wants. Reminds me, I need to catch up on Fimbulvetr before they finish.

FYI, it's "harebrained".

Thank you for preventing me from looking stupid for too long.

>He means that Claire's role with the UGN is to be by Captain's side, so she's decided to do it by doing exactly what she wants, which is sticking to his side.

Yeah, I see that now, and it's quite a theory. Certainly parts of it are true.

Alright then, I think we're about wrapped up. I'll go see about getting this archived and heading to bed. There's still quite a few bumps left on this thread, so you can either keep with it or let it slide.
>>
>>31113332
Hi there. One of the people who left after Rules of Nature thread 3, checking up on how you guys have been doing. Looks like you're still going strong; that's good to see. It's... unpleasant, let's say, to see the discussion and votes dominated by an approach to playing Captain that's so firmly at odds with the "go home" mentality I loved from thread 1. Maybe I'll join you again in some future thread or some future quest, but for now, it's probably for the best that I leave you guys to your thing.

Also, you should probably archive.

>"No, I really was more interested in-"
Sooo, what exactly was Seven more interested in?
Skipping right to Plan: Kill Errybody
or being worn as an accessory by Captain?
>>
>>31113605
With your post it hit 300.
>>
>>31113620
...I am more sleepy than I thought I was. Having 2 jobs is messing with my sanity.

>>31113615
Seven would rather have been worn by Captain. Claire scares her, remember.

Archive up!
>>
>>31113615
Ice cream.

Probably being close to Captain, Claire scares her.

>>31113610
The path of least effort takes many forms. Talking is easier than fighting.
>>
>>31113610
It's never fun to lose a reader, but it's nice we could part amicably.

Alright then, I think I'm going to head to bed now.
>>
>>31113640
I was 100% behind the talking; I would have voted the same way there. It's things like how Captain voluntarily brought *two* crazy women to the negotiation instead of attempting to go alone that get to me.
>>
>>31113733
Maybe, but leaving either of them would have scuttled the negotiations. Claire would have succeeded in traumatizing the hell out of Arachne which would have justified renewed hostilities, and left alone Seve may well have killed the poor spider girl. Either of those scenarios would mean more work for Captain. We had no way of predicting Hawkeye was going to be a whiny littlembitch about this though, so it looks like we still have extra work to deal with...
>>
The Captain should spend his time at the mixer with the Xeno people just to piss off el Ojo del Halcón.
>>
>>31113733
It'd honestly be more effort to not take them then to take them.
>>
>>31114015
Not taking them would have been as simple as not even entering the room they were in. Captain could have just walked off to the meeting directly.

>>31113778
Even assuming such courses of events were likely, thread 1 Captain would have considered that someone else's responsibility. Chief's, probably. He'd definitely try to find a solution that didn't involve taking so many people with him.
>>
>>31114114
(And by "try", I don't mean "put a great deal of effort into it". More like "Hey, Chief, make sure those three don't kill each other while I'm out", or "Claire, go over to that corner over there with Seven and make sure Seven doesn't do anything.")
>>
>>31114114
Maybe so, but thread 1 Captain hadn't been forced to live with Claire and Chief for weeks/months. I still don't think he sees it as his responsibility (because it isn't) it's more that fighting the insanity takes more work than expediting the conclusion. Besides, they required we bring a second person to the negotiations. By bringing Claire (and hiding Seven) we appeared to except their terms for speaking...oh, right, not your complaint.

Honestly, I think Cap's never been particularly apathetic (anti-social clearly, but not uncaring), but it's clear we disagree there.
>>
>>31114160
...since when have we ever expected competence from Chief or Claire?
>>
>>31114114
Why would we be trying to walk into a potential ambush with as little backup as possible? The increased risk wouldn't be worth a half hour's respite from Claire who would be in mission-mode anyways.
I was against bringing Seven, but found DXR's compromise to be satisfactory after that clusterfuck of a vote
>>
>>31114184
...accept their speaking terms, not except.
Definitely time for me to sleep. Best of luck fellow anons, especially that guy I was just debating. Stay cool my friends.
>>
>>31114233
Good night, and good luck.
>>
>>31114184
Captain is more resigned than apathetic these days. He knows he can't run, but he's not going to be gung ho about it either
>>
>>31114195
They're very competent when something directly relates to their duties. Outside of that, it's really clear that they were raised in a lab environment
>>
>>31114245
You too Murrow.
>>
Is Seven going to wear bloomers?
>>
>>31116350
Maybe. Claire hade her in them for most of a minute before she turned Seven into a hair accessory.
