Some character stuff: http://pastebin.com/q7T8pqRK

You are Nick Trimmers, barber from a creepy medieval utopia that has been gifted with phenomenal cosmic knowledge and power. So far you've been figuring them out with only moderate damage to yourself and others.

At the moment, you are in the pocket dimension known as 'Arsenal', which is a gathering of arms dealers, manufacturers, and clients in a city-sized expo-hall away from the hostile eyes of a larger competitor.

With the assistance of your friends here, you've settled in nicely and achieved many of the goals you set out for yourself. Got an apartment, paid Thrickett back, sold shrooms, tripped balls, trimmed a dwarf, got Jana healed and home again, made peace with the sprites, made loose trade/aid deal with sprites, and drummed up business for you freelance barbering.
>>
>>31086171
Time passes in a bit of a blur as you get settled in and find yourself absorbing knowledge at a surprising pace while working to keep folks well trimmed and your self a bit better informed.

Some aspects were harder to accept than others, of course.
Studying this world's medicine ran you into to several headaches. Both for yourself and the otherwise unflappable Thrickett, who nearly gave up after heated argument from you on the medical benefits of bloodletting that you were trained in, but eventually he go through and.. and strange as it seems, perhaps you don't need to drain the bad blood out when you have anti-virals and antibiotics to work with.

Others were an easy transition, even if the circumstances where certainly different.
For the most part, practicing the grooming, trimming, and chatting aspects of being a barber have remained the same. Sure you're clients here are wildly different than the folk you knew back home, but that just helps keep you from getting bored. Picking out a bit of xenology along the way, you even branch out into attempts at grooming even the stranger visitors to this place, though you have to chat with them a bit more to get a good feel for what is fashionable to them.
>>
>>31086199
Eventually though, things settle down into relative routine, even the burst of learning seems to have died down, your mind finally adjusted to all the information mystically shoved into it.

You take a moment to think back on the handful of more noteworthy events that come to pass..

>Meeting Administrator Chase: Moving at the speed of bureaucracy.
>Surprising meeting with Administrator Anderson: I hope you don't mind that I let myself in.

"I hope you don't mind that I let myself in, particularly since you've been letting yourself into _my_ place after all.."
You had just let yourself into your apartment after a rather enjoyable day off with Lialla and friends (a strange indulgence, but certainly relaxing), when you were greeted by an unfamiliar voice from the main room.

How did you respond?
>"Well, generally i like to invite my guests first, but what can I do for you?" approach casually.

Sitting comfortably in your chair, legs crossed and resting on your bag, is a tall man with long hair and pointed ears. From what you've learned, his clothes and shades would be considered fashionable and professional among the star elves and human mages of the UWW. You'd wager from the ears that he's one of those elves as well. You have had little dealings with them, you've heard from Axmel that they are sadly afflicted with a lack of facial hair.

You respond, "Oh, sorry. I didn't really *mean* to come here, I just sort of did. These powers are so hard to control."

A thin brow arches from behind the shades, "Assuming you were honest about how you came to be here, that is perfectly fine. Almost normal.. not quite mind you, but almost."
He uncrosses his legs and sits forward, looking at you.
"I rather doubt you are all that untrained now, however."
You uninvited guest sweeps an arm toward the center of your room dramatically, and looks at you as if expecting a response. He holds that pose for a moment, and then drops the slightly smug look on his face and frowns equally slightly.
"..Perhaps I was mistaken. It may very well be that Chase is just too distracted to notice some things.." He sighs deeply and places a hand on his face to run his temples.
Straightening again, "Well then, Mr. Trimmers, just what are you up to in our fair pocket of the universe?"

What happened there:
Roll was for identifying beforehand and/or seeing the effect he caused. You effectively had your metaphysical eyes closed while he was trying to be impressive and show off echoes of your portal practice (which has been mostly stealthy). So instead of getting the fancy intro he wanted, you effectively reinforced your statement of not knowing you you are doing. Really let the air out of him trying to cow you.

>>31087832
Opening a small portal will take a couple moments of meditation, do you wish to say this and start meditating on opening?

"Living, I guess. So, do I need to get proper paperwork or something?"

He chuckles at this and makes an exaggerated sigh, "Oh Gods, don't saddle me with that nonsense, see Chase about the bureaucracy," He turns more serious and regards you as you seat yourself on your bed, since he's taken the chair. "I'm just making sure you aren't a threat.. and someone with our talents uncontrolled is almost as bad as one working against us."

>59

"Are you intending on making a run for it, or trying to show me what you can do, Mr. Trimmers?"

Wait, what did he say? Could he tell what you were doing? You didn't sense anything from him..
"How could you tell? Can you show me?" Your hunger to know more about these abilities takes precedence.

"Hm.." he looks thoughtful for a moment, before standing and slipping of his shades to look at you directly, "Perhaps I can't Mr. Trimmers, though I suppose I should introduce myself properly."
He takes a very slight bow, "I am known here as Administrator Anderson, though I rarely busy myself with the mundane administration matters."
He offers a handshake, possibly in a calculated move to disrupt your focus, or simply politeness.

You laugh heartily at the memory of the great and mighty Anderson nearly crapping himself as you casually mention meeting Modeus. Prompting a barrage of questions you honestly had no answer for, further cementing that you were still new to the power at the time.
You are good enough read of people to know he may have had more than one motivation for agreeing to help you learn more about your abilities; watching you to ensure you weren't working with hostile forces, making sure you didn't accidentally cause a problem, and trying to get you to view the administration and Arsenal favorably. But you got along well enough, and think he may have enjoyed the break from his other tasks to just poke at the cosmos with you.
There were some hiccups, as it seems his connection an discipline, while very similar to your own, was based more on an active understanding of magic, while yours was more instinctual. He referred to you as a 'Dimensional Mystic' whereas he was a 'Spatial Mage', both rarities, though your's moreso, but you both possessed a similar connection to the flow of the 'megaverse' as he called the multitude of dimensions and universes.

Ultimately, his assistance helped you gain a firmer understanding of your abilities as well as much of the lore behind the leylines and other kinds of magic.

Only odd insistance from him was that you start carrying a crosspiece made of silver, which he explained may help ward off certain minions of the powerful fellow you accidentally called on, since he felt some concern about you giving your actual name to the Lord of Hades.
Hades, as it turns out, is a realm of demons and their lords, Modeus recently cementing himself as undisputed lord over those other lords by some means and making most people aware of it quiet nervous, particularly with their rivals, the deevils of Dyval seeming to be ratcheting up their activities in turn. It seems that Modeus is one of the evilest beings with a humanoid form to meet.
>>
>>31090162
Well, I'm glad to get in good with Arsenal's bigwigs, so carrying a silver x seems a small price. Attach it to a belt loop. He manage to twach us how to sense the build up to a portal summoning?

It seems you can naturally sense the opening of portals, though a bit of practice helps, particularly having someone else's portal work to sense to get a better feel for it. Identifying some magics leans more on your knowledge of magic, but you have a much easier time sensing out magics and effects that deal with space, time, and dimensions.

Boredom.
Had you more experience with waiting rooms across the universes, you would have called it the most generic and bland example of the species.
As it is, you were asked to be here twenty minutes ago and you showed up early just in case.. Since then you've been quietly staring at the wall and failing to get the receptionist-bot to engage you in conversation.

Finally, however, the door to Administrator Chase's office opens with a thump and and very large and bulkily built figure sulks his way out.
"-once again High Lord Ral'tc'lax, the Arsenal Administration department apologizes that we cannot fulfil your request, business here is open to anyone wishing to shop, including your war council as well as-" the creature walks out the exit, and the somewhat round man calling after it stops talking to sigh and pat his brow with a handkerchief.

"Ah, hello there! Are you Nick? If so, I apologise for the delayed, meeting ran a bit long."
Admitting to being yourself, are quickly lead into the office.
"Good, good, I'm Administrator Chase. Come on in, that's right, let's see here.."
He makes his way toward his desk and has a seat and spends a moment pulling up something on the screen and reading it before absent-mindedly nodding toward the other figure in the room. "Oh and this is Security Chief Williams, do say hello Steven."
A stocky figure in the armored uniform of the security force looks toward you and offers a brief, "Good afternoon."

Administrator Chase seems to finish his reading and turns to you, "I see, it seems it was reported that you though you had additional information regarding the storm incident last month?"

It's taken them that long? You thought maybe they'd written that off or that Anderson dealt with that information already..

You proceed to recount the impressions that you had at the time to them, ending on, "I may not have known much, but Anderson seemed to think it was a pretty good read for how new I was to it.."

At the mention of Anderson, Administrator Chase freezes from his polite nodding and note-taking, and looks at you with a narrowing of his eyes.
"Anderson? Administrator Anderson?"
After nodding an affrimative to him, Chase's face starts to turn red.

He glances at the Security Chief, "Sorry, Williams, looks like this might be beyond your scope, at least until we have somewhere to put a team on the ground."

"Well then, while you're here, is there anything else I can help you with? Obviously I'll need to mark you down as a higher priority visitor from now on.." He clicks a few things at his station, then raises his brows in a surprise, "..or resident at the case may be? Do we have that right, you've chosen or little pocket of the megaverse to call home?"
He seems to be trying to suppress his surprise that someone able to go anywhere would choose here. Somewhat unsuccessfully.

You nod to yourself, all and all Chases hair came out decently, bit on the stringy side, so it was a bit difficult getting it to shape the way you wanted, but he was happy with the result compared to what he had.
Williams turned out to have spikes rather than hair, and while he appreciated an offer to polish them, he explained it wouldn't be appropriate.

All and all, it went alright, got set up with a decent service license within Chase's bureaucracy, and your ID was tagged as 'High Value', which you gather is mainly for big wigs with deep pockets. They are definitely trying to keep you buttered up in regards to them. Nothing material, but you seem to have a lot less red tape to travel through since then.

One question before we proceed, would you like to license yourself as a 'recreational product' importer, or try to keep your deals with the sprites more 'off the books'? There would be a bit more to the licensing, and in theory a bit of the proceeds would go to the administration, but otherwise that would be about it, since you are your own transportion.

For which Axmel himself has kept his thanks mostly stoic, with the occasional 'Good work', 'Thank you, lad', and beer.

"Axmel Survival Module Model 001N- Nick Trimmers' Special Edition," intones Axmel like he was reciting the model to a prespective customer.
You're familiar with the original unit, a belted unit with a control box and a decent array of emergency survival features for 'shipboard emergencies, suit failures, hostile environments, and inclement weather', the most severe of which trigger automatically when the appropriate situation arises, as long as it is kept charged up. A popular item that you have enjoyed selling and talking about.

You are aware that it has a higher capacity than the baseline model, and Axmel informs you that this one was done at his full strength, (The base model having the features placed with a lower casting level to make them easier to create without rest. Doing it at full strength means he probably didn't make anything else during that period and that each effect will have a longer duration for the same amount of charge.

After thanking and then drinking with Axmel for some time, you returned home again, thinking to retire for the night.
Instead though, you found yourself sitting up late, lost in thought and reminisces as you idly gaze at your walking stick and prized hiking boots while rubbing your fingers along the material of your new belt.. a belt meant aid a traveller against the unexpected.
A traveller.
You haven't gone on a good hike for ages, and you have Arsenal pretty well mapped out now.
..and deep inside you can feel a wider megaverse calling to be explored.

Parting concerns cross your mind as the dimensional energies cascade across your body, bringing you across space, time, and realities..

Stepping forth into the material world, you find yourself bombarded by a suffusion of live and vibrance from the forest you appear within.
The sky seems brighter, the colors more lively, the earthy smells richer by far than the cold forest of you homeland.

Even without taking the time to attune yourself to learn more about this realm, you know it is a powerful nexus of primal elemental energies.

Breathing deeply of the rich fresh air, you know you are in for a pleasant hike today.

-and then the pile of rocks and dirt next to you stands up.

End Part 10.

I like the way you think.

Glad you've enjoyed it. About time for me to crash though, so you have a great night/morning, and I'll catch you next time!

Feel free to leave any questions or comments and I'll look into them once I am conscious.
Take care!
