Welcome to Academy City. The time is night, the weather is cold and the date is August 3.

You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error and you are on the way back from work. It’s a cold night but you’re not really feeling it because of the day you’ve had. This morning you shot three people dead. You also left at least two more to their fate in a burning building. There had been enough time for you to come to grips with the facts and you can admit to yourself that you had carried out those actions with your own hands. It was not completely unprovoked mind but it was exactly the kind of killing that validated certain stereotypes.

So far the list of people that know this is a standing at a grand total of two but you’re pretty sure that wasn’t going to last for very long. Asuka had been strangely supportive. You wouldn’t mind the comfort of her embrace again but sadly that was not an option right now. Maybe this was what parents were for? You don’t know but you did have someone like that you could go to. Aneue and Mum came to mind but you’re not sure how they’d take it even if you explained in vague terms. Confessing to random strangers like that bartender or Teacher seems less useful but they’d probably be less likely to judge.

Would you like to seek some counsel?

You head straight home. There’s no need to be bothering other people at this time of night and you certainly weren’t going to talk about what you’ve done. The chance that a secret is revealed grows exponentially as more people learn of it. Well it wasn’t that late but it certainly was nearing student curfew. It was something you never really bothered with but today it seemed like a good rule to follow. Of course as soon as you got home, you find Sagara and Tadakuni just relaxing with some drink. Your guest Sivan is nowhere to be seen but you assume he’s out hunting vampires like he said he would be.

“So how’d it go?” Sagara offers you a glass, catching your expression he continues, “That bad huh? Don’t worry mate, there’s plenty of other fish in the sea.”

You know he was only trying to cheer you up. He’s the second one today. Already that’s a lot.

“It’s not that,” you answer.

Not getting some is not the reason why you’re this down. Grabbing the offered glass you get a waft of warm alcohol. Undeterred you down it in one gulp despite the strength. Coughing lightly, you feel slightly better. The fact that Tadakuni had liberated the bottle from a Big Spider hideout from under Sparky’s nose did put a damper on things but alcohol was alcohol.

“Seriously man, what happened?” Sagara asks.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” you start with the usual, “But it’s not like I can anyway, sorry.”

“No worries,” Sagara assures and pours you another.

“What I can say is that Big Spider probably isn’t going to be a problem any longer.”

“Cheers to that then.”

Your glasses make a soft ‘tink’ sound.

“So what happened with you guys,” you thought it was only fair.

“Well I learned that Shirai has throwing darts under her skirt,” Sagara states soberly, “And that’s she’s a total lesbian.”

“Tell me something I don’t know,” Tadakuni interjects, “Like how Sparky can keep track of me because of my neurons firing if she really puts her mind to it. Or perhaps that Sparky does were panties under her shorts. They’re striped.”

“Show off,” Sagara scoffs.

By the time your two friends left you feel much better. That or it was the alcohol. In either case you’ve showered and were preparing for bed. The thought of you killing someone comes back unbidden and so does Asuka’s words. Perhaps you were just making the issue bigger than it should be. Instead of what others would think, what did you, as a person, think of killing? Initially you regretted it but that’s what happens when you didn’t think things through. Well now you had time to think. What is your stance on killing?

You don’t think this should change who you are too much. Sure you may not exactly like killing but it happens. It might even happen to you someday. You’re not going to shy away from it nor embrace it. It simply is. Where this simple detachment from the act may lead you’re not sure but for now you’re content that it is enough to give you a peaceful sleep.

The time is now morning, the weather is clear and the date is now August 4.

You wake up without a hangover but you do note that Sivan has yet to return. Vampire hunter mortality rates aren’t a statistic you happen to know off-hand. The ponderings of where he has gone and what has befallen him are interrupted by the door bell. You’re not sure who has business with you in the morning aside from Sivan but he knocked yesterday. Spying through the peephole you see two adults on your doorstep. One of which is Yomikawa-sensei.

Anti-Skill. Shit.

“Torikov, you in there?” her voice carries through the door.

I'm not too worried. Only person that would know is Crowley because he has a almost perfect sight over the city. Anti-skill isn't what would be sent for murder either so things should be fine. Key thing is not to overreact and to make sure our gun is hidden.

So Anit-Skill are basically security, not the police?

I just realized that Kaoru's tracking spell was on us the whole time. SHE KNOWS

You open the door. Just because Anti-Skill was on your door didn’t mean you have to panic yet. You are thankful that you had brushed your teeth before you went to bed. It meant that your breath didn’t smell of alcohol. It’s the small things that get you.

“Morning Torikov,” Yomikawa speaks, “Sorry to wake you up so early but we’re having a bit of a situation.”

“What’s the situation,” you casually ask.

There’s no need to give anything away just yet and the two don’t seem to be in a hurry.

“Well there was that pyro you roughed up in the junkyard,” she answers.

“Catch him yet?”

“We have a few suspects. The problem is that we don’t actually have a good description of them. You fought them so maybe you can help.”

“Do I need to go with you?”

“Preferably.”

If you yourself weren’t guilty of a crime you would hesitate to call this whole conversation suspicious. Maybe there was an ulterior motive to bring you in without outright arresting you. However you wouldn’t know for sure. You’d have to ask and Yomikawa-sensei was being nice about it so you probably didn’t want to piss off someone who you knew was a better fighter.

>Go with them

You tell them to give you a couple of minutes to change and when you do you accompany Yomikawa and her partner to the local Anti-Skill office. On your way, in Yomikawa’s car you do manage to get a few questions in.

“So what about my boss?”

“Yeah he’s the first person we asked and you’re the only other witness.”

“And there’s no other reason that I’m coming with you to the station with you?”

At that point you suspect her look in the rear view mirror wasn’t about the car behind you.

“Well I’ll be honest Torikov. You have a bit of a record of getting in to fights and from where I’m sitting I’m worried you’re going to end up just like those Skill-Out thugs you put out a few days ago.”

They put you in an office. It didn’t look like an interrogation room by any stretch but you suppose you weren’t exactly a suspect or anything. Recalling the details of the incident wasn’t hard. The problem was when you finally remembered that the perp that hit the junkyard wore a gas mask. There was nothing about them that you could identify and that would be useful for the investigation.

“By the way, I have another question for you,” Yomikawa slides a photo across the table, “Do you recognise this person?”

It is a picture of Kurozuma Wataru.

It’s here that you finally recognise what they were coming to you for in the first place. The junkyard incident was just an excuse to talk to you. You answer with the alibi Kurozuma came up with however. It was probably important to him so you stuck with it.

“Yeah, I recognise him alright. Got in a fist fight with him. Tough guy knocked me senseless.”

“Is that all?” Yomikawa looks annoyed.

It is then that her partner and colleague voices up.

“Um, Torikov-san,” she’s voicing something Yomikawa doesn’t want to say, “Well you see, this man killed three men earlier that day.”

“What she’s saying is that you got in to a fist fight with a killer,” Yomikawa adds.

To her it’d seem like you were unknowingly putting yourself in danger. That or you were secretly in cahoots and she was going to get to the bottom of it no matter what. As far as her colleague’s words went, then it meant quite a few things. One, he is most certainly going to take the fall for your actions. Two, they most certainly have him in custody or soon at any rate.

“Do you think you can tell us more about him?” her colleague continues.

“Or maybe you’d like to say something else?” Yomikawa suggests, “Like why you were in the area for starters.”

So I bumped into him going around a corner, we exchanged "pleasantries", then fists, after a bit he decked me good and stormed off. No. We don't want to make this seem reasonable or plausible. We want to make it seem like we didn't think it was important at the time. So don't try to justify anything with reasonable explanations, just give her a few pieces of things we "remember" and apologize for not having more for her to go on. The more detail we give the more likely we'll say something they can objectively disprove and if they do that the game's up and we lost.
>>
>>31087273
Problem there is it's rare for Kyril to lose so it would be surprising if he didn't have some memories or two which do need to be plausible. Though in a street fight we can get away with talking about how fast things moved.

“Why do you think I was in the neighbourhood?” you ask back.

“You’ve gotten in to at least four fights since summer vacation started,” she replies, “I think it’s pretty obvious what you were looking for in School District 10.”

“Well I found one, and he won,” you answer.

You don’t think giving her anything more would be wise. Best to pretend that there was nothing important happening that day. She was probably also withholding information as well. So far she hasn’t asked what your girlfriend was up to when everything went down that morning. Shirai was a definite witness to that and given that she was with Judgement had probably reported the whole thing as per procedure. Unless Sparky stopped her, there wasn’t much you could do about it. Yomikawa hasn’t said anything so far so you weren’t going to be the first one to broach the subject.

“Alright, if that’s all then I hope you’ll be able to attend Kurozuma’s hearing,” Yomikawa finally says, “You can go now and we’ll contact you later.”

You also realise that as she is collecting Kurozuma’s photo that she hasn’t really told you much about Kurozuma either. The warehouse fire was pretty much a death sentence to the unconscious and incapacitated. Then again, they probably only could have linked him to three victims because he took the gun you used.

The time is now afternoon, the weather is warm and the date remains unchanged.

You decide to head off to work as you would during the afternoon. On the way you grab a quick lunch and call up Teacher. You did promise to contact him when you were free and yesterday had been quite busy. You also managed to vocalise out his name, which was Shoga Ryou, though you’re not sure if that was really his name or not.

“Teacher here,” he answers.

“It’s me, Torikov, from the night before yesterday’s.”

“Ah right, so I’m guess you’re free now?”

“Sort of, I got some work this afternoon but I’m definitely free after this.”

“Great, I’ll send some details out by text and I’ll see you later,” he hangs up.

When you arrive at the junkyard however, you can’t seem to find your boss, Number 3, in his usual locations. It meant having to wander deeper in to the junkyard. You find him having trapped his leg under some fallen junk.

“Well I was hoping you’d show up sooner or later,” he smiles despite his predicament, “Don’t worry about my leg, it’s only stuck in there, along with my phone. A centimetre or two closer and I would have said goodbye to parenthood.”

[1/2]
>>
>>31088813
The thing trapping his leg was some industrial machinery, looked like some kind of oversized press or metallurgical tool. It doesn’t help that the pile was pretty big as well. You can see a sedan carcass resting atop the pile. All told it’s pretty lucky Number 3 hasn’t suffered significantly. Obviously, you let Number 3 call someone who could actually get some professional help but it would take a while for them to get here. You could also try something in the meantime.

Before you begin you make sure to ask your boss how his leg was holding together. Apart from not being able to move it much it feels fine according to him. Lying in the dirt for hours wasn’t exactly comfortable though. Informing him that you were going to scout the pile you leave him. It’s a pretty big stack of junk though and you notice that the collapse has blocked off some of the planned walkways. It takes you nearly five minutes to circle around the first time. You also notice that some of the other stacks have some kind of metal mesh around it along with a ladder.

Climbing up one, you are able to get a better view on the fallen junk. You also notice how windy it is compared to ground level. The placement of windmills seems to support your observation. Perhaps the mesh was meant to keep the stacks from falling from gusts of wind? Was someone actually trying to kill your boss? You don’t even know where to begin answering that last one.

It doesn’t actually take that long to free Number 3 when the crane crew arrive though since it was the first thing you all did. However the junk wasn’t going to stack itself so you spend your hours spotting and assisting with TK. Your boss left the work in your capable hands whilst he went to check on his legs before returning by the time things were done. He called it a day there.

Can't Kyril levitate?
>>
>>31090299
Not well enough. He can like stop himself from falling with a little fast reflexes. But full on levitation is beyond him right now.
>>
>>31090299
We just learned to do that, we're probably not at the level where we can just do that casually.

So any consensus on where we are level-wise?

The only canon 2 can just double the force of her attacks, and we're fairly beyond her probably.

Level 3s can do this shit though, but we don't know where that guy was, he could be on the higher end of 3.

Borderline level 3. It's not like the levels really mean all that much in raw destructive power.

It’s a park near where you first met him. You also manage to grab a bite to eat before you arrive. Busy day today, you think. Teacher was near one of the fountains scratching away at the pavement with some kind of chalk when you arrive. Further inspection revealed that he drew a complicated set of kanji characters on the ground. You don’t recognise them though. At your arrival, Teacher removes his hat to wipe his forehead before turning to address you.

“Just in time kid, I completed all the boring preliminary stuff.”

“What is it?”

“It’s a spell that’ll help me locate Reina, I hope.”

You’re definitely not comfortable with that answer.

“We aren’t in a perfect world kid. If this doesn’t work I can try other ways,” he grimaces at the thought, “Though they’re probably best as a last resort kind of thing. Anyway, we can get started with the ritual or.”

He trails off as he notices something about you and frowns. Perhaps he was displeased?

“On one hand, I really would like to find my wife but the other I cannot ignore your own troubles. You’ll find yourself in bigger problems if you don’t learn your lesson now. What do you think?”

If there’s something about you that bothers him you think it might be a good idea to see what it was. Retreating slightly, Teacher stands across from you. He’s clearly only standing in place a fair bit away from you but somehow, he seems bigger.

“Very well, how about a spar?” he spreads his hands, “Think you can land a solid hit?”

You’re not too surprised he’s asking for a fight so you’ll give him one. There aren’t too many things to throw about here but you do find a few good sized rocks. Teacher only pulverises them in one blow however.

“That’s a neat trick kid,” he ducks under your follow up punch, “Continuous striking too.”

He tries to catch your hand but you slow his grab just enough to escape and send your opposite hand flying. Deflecting your left, you go for his shoes instead. His foot follows the motion as naturally as possible allowing him to catch your lingering hand and forcing your joints to bend unnaturally.

“I think this is a problem with the Academy City,” he continues ignoring your pain, “A city that holds so much knowledge yet so little wisdom.”

You relinquish your concentration on his shoes to a different area but the pain makes it harder than necessary. Slowly but surely he is forcing you to the ground until you are using both your Ability and your free hand to avoid kissing the pavement. You had to hand it to him, he’s playing the old martial arts master role to the hilt.

Would you like to continue the fight?

You struggle and you squirm. All of your efforts are put in to resisting, somehow trying to find the upper hand. You only feel more weight as Teacher presses down.

“Look at your hand,” he says sternly.

You continue your resistance.

“Look at them,” he repeats more emphatically.

His hold finally forces your face in to the pavement. Your hand lies in your field of vision.

“What are those hands doing?” he nearly shouts, “What are they fighting for? What are they killing for?”

You feel him relax yet his grip remains strong.

“I hope you’re thinking beyond the fight. Just ‘winning’ isn’t enough, not anymore. You must know what you are trying to accomplish,” his voice turns soft, “This lesson is over.”

The vice grip he had on you finally slacks and you nearly crumple in to a heap. Teacher returns to check on his pictograms. His suit remains unruffled compared to you.

“You don’t need to answer those questions now,” he speaks again, “But before I leave I would like to hear your answer on them. Why is it you fight and why is it you kill? Think hard on it.”

Producing another piece of chalk, he gets to drawing on the ground once more, leaving you to your thoughts. The ritual needs completing.

You’re trembling but his question stays in your mind. You’re not sure you have an answer for him yet but if anything he should have his own answer to the question.

“And you?” you ask him.

“I fought for many things, my lord, my country, and for a better future,” he smiles, “That last one is the only reason that stuck. Now, how much do you know of Lao Tzu?”

You admit that you have no idea who that is.

“Well I didn’t expect you to know,” Teacher doesn’t frown at all, “What I’m going to do is replicate his eight trigram crucible. When he did it, he gave the Monkey King the power to detect evil. I’ve done my homework and if all goes well my modifications should allow you to detect Reina, and pretty much every other vampire in the city.”

“It’s a bit late to ask but it’s not dangerous is it?”

“’Course not, it may be slightly unpleasant but you’ll definitely be alive and kicking by the time you’re done. I’d do it myself if I didn’t need to actually initiate the spell. Just hop in to the fountain kid.”

You did promise to help him and he gave you a lesson, of sorts, so now you think it’s time you did your part. There’s no water in the fountain thankfully but you get the feeling that ‘slightly unpleasant’ was going to be a bit of an understatement.

Episode 22 end. I’m a bit busy this week lads. Will return on Saturday with an interlude.

Teacher frets. A trial begins. Do you have a suit? When writefag and /tg/ meet the story begins.

For our love and for pleasure. I mean honestly that pretty much sums it up. He fights because he thinks it's fun. Unless his friends get injured then he goes justice modo on you.
