Recap:

You are Meredith, and you've been a werewolf for about a year now. During the last full moon, Fluffy was able to claw through the restraints, went chasing after a deer, and got hit by a car. Yesterday, you found the first other werewolf since becoming one, and wasn't able to get much out of the conversation while holding off Fluffy's aggression. You learned of the existence of vampires, went to the club, the Neon, where you saved your coworkers Steve and Janice from a vampire named Ashley, before taking them back to your house to explain everything.

"You realize how rediculous this sounds, right?" Steve says while massaging his forehead.

"Yeah, I wouldn't have believed it myself a year ago."

"This is huge. We have to tell someone!" Janice exclaims, causing both you and Steve to jump. She'd been entirely silent since leaving the Neon until now. "Vampires and werewolves exist. We could be famous. Think of the historical implications."

"I'm not so sure." Steve says, "There has to be a reason we didn't know about this until experiencing it firsthand. I think someone must want it to be a secret."

He brings up a good point. Crystal had seemed almost irrationally paranoid when you'd been in the paper. "Maybe it's the vampires?" You offer. "I'm just a girl with a really bizzare medical issue. They benefit from keeping the world in the dark."

Janice seems deflated a bit. "You're probably right." The poor girl just wants her 15 minutes of fame. The three of you lapse into silence.

The phone rings.

"Hello?"

"Meredith, you're alive? Did you go to the club Did they see you?" It's Crystal.

"It's ok, I killed her."

"Her?"

"Yeah, Ashley. I killed the vampire."

A pause. "How do you know there was only one?"

Now it's your turn to pause. "Well, I got the one that was going after Steve. Chill. I don't think there were any more. I wasn't followed home."

"I'm not taking that chance, gonna leave town first thing in the morning. Don't try to follow me. Need to find a safe place to turn next month. I'll call again from the road. Don't just go into the woods any more. Even if more of them didn't see you, with one vampire gone, they're going to start to get suspicious." Click. Things would be so much easier if the one person you know who understood this shit wasn't so distant.

You hang up the phone and go to the window. You'd definitely know if you'd have been followed. Your place is pretty secluded. "When's the next full moon?" Steve asks.

You think for a second. "27 days I think?"

"I want to be there next time you turn." Steve says firmly. Janice seems a little less sure. "Steve, I'm not so sure that's a good idea."

How to respond?
>Hell no. Sometimes I can barely control Fluffy as it is. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I put you guys in danger.

It would be kinda really bad if anything happened to someone. Still...we kinda didn't dig in a car crash we've made, maybe we have some unfortunate souls on our conscience so far? Other than our parents that is ;__;

"No, no nononono." You put up your palm. "Sometimes I can barely control Fluffy as it is. When I turn, she's completely in charge. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I put you guys in danger."

Janice seems relieved. "See Steve? Meredith's managed this long without our help. I'm sure she's got it under control."

Steve is undeterred. "No way. You saved my life tonight. If it weren't for you, I'd be a vampire, or a ghoul or whatever. I can't just walk away and pretend that tonight didn't happen. Besides, if we're right about this being some huge conspiracy to keep all this shit under wraps, we might be in danger anyway."

>I'm sorry that I dragged you guys into this, but this is my problem, not yours. It's for your own good if you forget about tonight and go on with your lives. I'll be fine.
>I appreciate the sentiment, and it's good to know I've got some people to lean on, but being there when I turn is just too risky.
>Actually, you're right. Crystal at least thinks it isn't safe that I turn in the woods any more. Even if I'm going to do it in my house, I need to make sure Fluffy can't escape again. You can help.

We can mention though about changing our spot to tying ourself in basement or something. Maybe Steve has an idea about some safe place? Last time we endangered some family driving a car, we don't want this to happen more often.

"Deal." Steve seems mostly satisfied with this compromise. "You need a new place to turn, right? We can at least help with that. I have to think that turning in your own house would be a last resort. If a vampire finds you here, you'd pretty much have to skip town and go on the run."

You glance at Janice. She just seems incredibly drained by the events. The clock reads 4:57. "You guys should just stay here tonight. I"ll drive you wherever tomorrow morning"

So the plan is to find a better place to turn. Roll 1d100 for scouting this next month. Best of first 3. Going to time-skip in next post to next month unless there's something you specifically want to do in the interim.

aside from new place to turn, (preferably lockable basement)

see if there are any rabbit farms in the area. If you could buy a few food rabbits and set them ahead of time in a nearby room ... well maybe if you turn you would be satisfied with them instead of eating a person.

And see about buying thick chains in hardware store and strong locks. with enough time maybe they could help you chain up and then LEAVE.

>control of the wolf lowered

The next few weeks pass uneventfully. On one hand, you that's a blessing. If someone, something, was on to you, you feel like they'd make their move sometime before Fluffy becomes active again. For her part, Fluffy has seemed less dormant since the confrontation with Ashley. She hasn't challenged your willpower like she did when you were around Crystal, but Fluffy just seems to be constantly pacing back in forth in the back of your mind. It didn't used to be that way. You used to be able to ignore her most of the time. Around the new moon, you usually could almost forget she was there.

While this development does cause you to worry about how well you'd restrain yourself in the event of contact with another supernatural being, you generally find yourself significantly more aware of your surroundings. Your sense of smell and hearing are enhanced, though still an order of magnitude lower than they are when you are in your wolf body. You also find yourself craving rare meet.

Steve seemed enthusiastic to help you, but that enthusiasm didn't translate well into anything actually helpful. He still lives with his parents, and Janice was significantly less on-board with the whole situation from the get go. You and Steve spend a night or two a week driving around town looking for a suitably abandoned place to little avail. Janice usually finds an excuse to not join you.

(cont.)
>>
>>31049937
As the moon grows throughout the month, you get more and more desperate. Eventually, you come to the conclusion that you're going to have to turn in your basement. It's unfurnished, which is for the better, but your parents were pack rats, and have years worth of junk collecting there. You spend the better part of a day cleaning a large area out and collecting some restraints that you hope will be suitable. Steve shows up from the hardware store having bought several yards of chain links and a padlock.

The night of the full moon approaches and your plan is set. Janice is going to take the late shift at Friendlies and Steve will help chain you up before leaving. You're feeling pretty good about it until the end of your shift. Janice is late. You look nervously at the rapidly setting sun.

"Eddie, I really need to go."

"Calm your tits, girl. I'm sorry, but you can't leave until Janice comes in. We're busy tonight. You're leaving us understaffed."

>Try to argue with him or convince him to let you go anyway. Roll 1d100.

"Listen, Eddie. I've got a personal issue I need to take care of." He returns it with a blank stare. Ok, not direct enough. "Like, a girl issue." Still nothing. Really Eddie? Didn't you learn anything in Sex Ed? You lean in. "It's my time of the month." You see realization spark over his pudgy face. "And, I get it a lot worse than some girls."

"Don't you have... like pads or something for that stuff?" He scrambles.

"I've got a medical condition, Eddie. I'm sorry, I don't like talking about it. It's embarrassing. It's really bad." You squeeze your legs together, figuring it'll help with the charade. "Suffice to say... if you don't let me leave right now, it'll look like a crime scene in here."

Eddie grimaces. "Geez. Ok, whatever, sure. No wonder you're so uptight about this stuff. I guess I'll manage somehow." Success.

You speed back your house as the sunlight fades. Something's wrong. You burst through the house and down the stairs. You reach the basement and your heart skips a beat. Steve and Janice are both struggling in a corner, wrapped in the chains you'd intended to use, with duct tape over their mouths. You can see the terror in their eyes as they see you appear at the bottom of the stairs. Fuck.

You rush over to Janice and tear the duct tape off her mouth. Tears stream down her face as she sobs "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I was just trying to help."

You pull the strip from Steve's face and you shout in unison, "WHAT DID YOU DO?" Your fingers leave thin lines of blood across Steve's cheek as your nails morph to claws.

"I - I went to a doctor and asked about your c-condition." She sobs. "I thought there might be something he could prescribe to help you... like with the transformation. A c-couple days later some men showed up at my h-house. They asked a lot of questions and I-I couldn't lie to them. I thought it would just blow over. I'm sorry. I'm sorry..." She trails off.

Steve at least isn't a gibbering mess. "The key, they left it on the shelf." He says, nodding to a direction behind you.

You feel the transformation coming on. Like you're having a root canal on every tooth at once without anesthetic, your teeth are transforming into fangs. You let out a howl.

You scramble for the key, before turning on Steve and Janice. You can smell their blood, their fear.

Dammit, Fluffy. No!

You vie for control with Fluffy, and your body falls against the cement, paralyzed against conflicting commands. Steve pulls shrugs free of the chains, and immediately grabs the key and works on Janice.

Every muscle and bone aches as they deform and grow. You feel something cold against your chest as you lay writhing on the cement, and hear Steve and Janice's panicked voices...

~

You're free. The girl screams in the back of your mind, but you can ignore her. Ignore her as she usually ignores you. You let out a deep breath and howl. They're still close. Close enough to catch.

You squirm over onto your stomach. These restraints are more solid than the ones she used previously. You feel a sense of satisfaction tinged with annoyance. At least she respects your power. You struggle against them to no avail. Metal. You could probably claw through them with enough effort, but you most likely don't have enough time. Your legs are free, however. You could probably get

Your claws can't break them easily, you'd need something out of the ordinary. You take a quick inventory of what the girl knows. Probably would need a power tool of some kind. Nothing like that here, though. That's okay. Steve and Janice will probably present more challenge if you're restrained anyway.

You squirm onto your hind legs and swagger toward the staircase. The door at the top of the stairs looks closed.

You coil your legs. One step, two, three. You lower your head to brace for the impact. You shatter through the thin wooden door, sliding several feet along the floor as you're unable to catch yourself on your front legs. You take a deep breath. You can smell your own blood behind you, on the shards of wood and floor near what used to be the basement door. Not a problem. Your flesh quickly heals.

Steve and Janice aren't here. You struggle to your feed and sniff the air. Faintly, you smell the girl. You know her perfume well. Even more faintly you smell something less human, but whatever that was is long gone. Steve and Janice, though. Their scent is fresh, up the stairs.

You slowly stalk your prey up the stairs. Each step is measured; you have the whole night, after all. Every step you take, you can feel them closer. The fear is palpable. You reach the top of the stairs and look right and left. The doorway to the right is open. Steve's scent trails off in both directions, curiously. The right doorway leads to Meredith's bedroom. Her window is right above the porch roof. They might have gone that way and escaped into the woods. Unless...

You creep down the hallway towards the open door. You reach the doorway and the window is open. A door creaks behind you. Too predictable. Steve stayed behind to flank you, buying time for Janice's escape.

You whirl around and see balls of fire engulf your vision from your right and the hallway behind you. You stagger back, burning chemicals creeping up your nostrils and singing your fur. Steve barrels into you, knocking you back through the window pane. Without your arms/front legs, you flop helplessly down onto the roof and roll down, before falling a story onto the walkway in front of the front door.

The pain is intense, but less than the humiliation. They tricked you. That won't happen again. You stagger to your feet.

Bang! You feel the force of a gunshot ricochet against the iron chain link, causing you to stagger back.

Bang!. This time the bullet grazes against your cheek, leaving a searing gash of blood as you howl.

You can smell them. They smell the same as Ashley did, the rotting, decaying, flesh. Vampires. Behind the faint smell of gasoline.

You leap, miscalculating the distance and crashing against the hood of the squad car as the vampire dashes away. Your momentum carries you over and you flop ineffectually down on the dirt driveway, thrashing unable to see where your prey went. You struggle to your feet and feel a bolt of pain streak through your calf as another bullet hits tears through the muscle in your leg. You crumple into a heap, letting out a howl as you writhe on the ground unable stand. The rotting stench surrounds you and you hear two voices chuckle.

"Stupid dog." Bang! Another bullet skips between the chains underneath your heart.

Suddenly, a flash of light illuminates one of the vampires silhouette in the darkness. Behind it, you see Steve in the air, a cigarette lighter in one hand, and a can of hairspray in the other. The vampire crumples underneath the flame and Steve curls into a roll, landing behind you and spraying the makeshift torch over your body in the face of both the vampires. His eyes seem to glow red as they reflect the flame.

The vampires recoil, fighting back against the fire, scrambling back into the car as they bat away the flames, peeling out and driving away.

You feel delirious. The bullet in your chest is preventing you from thinking. You feel yourself being dragged along the dirt and gravel back up to the house. Your breathing is labored, you can taste copper from your own blood as the stubborn wound in your stomach refuses to heal.

The moving stops, and you are dropped onto the floor of Meredith's living room. You hear a distant voice. "Give me a knife!" before feeling a blinding pain right underneath the bullet hole. You let out another howl, squirming, before it subsides suddenly. You lose consciousness...

It's morning. You hear birds chirping. You open your eyes. Steve and Janice are looking over you, concerned. "Are you ok?" Steve says.

You struggle to sit up, feeling a knife in your chest. You look down. You're naked. "What the!" Janice throws you a blanket, as if on cue. You cover yourself from them, blushing. Your chest aches, as does your cheek and right calf. "Thanks" you mumble.

"W-what happened last night?" You say tentatively. "I remember the vampires..." You trail off, unsure what to say.

"Seems they like fire less than werewolves." Steve says. "I scared them off, then dragged you inside." He grabs a small saucer off the end table. The saucer is covered in blood, on it is a single shining bullet.

"I think its silver." He says. "Doesn't look like a regular shell. Besides..." He trails off, setting the saucer aside. "I was afraid you were a goner."

The doorbell rings. Steve warily walks over to the front door. Opening it slightly, you see two policemen in the doorway. "Excuse me, sir, we've been called because of a domestic disturbance."

"We heard reports of gunshots."

"They're no longer Steve's friends."

"Listen, can we take you folks down to the station for an official statement?"

"Uh...."

You see a figure behind the policeman. "Officer. I hope you aren't talking to my client without my presence. That would be quite bad."

The cop whirls around. "Nobody has been charged with anything." He says indignantly.

The figure steps onto the porch. He's clad in an impeccably tailored suit, his blond hair slicked perfectly to the side. "So your purpose here is..."

The cop stammers "I'm just investigating-"

"An event that, if it even existed in the first place, is clearly over. If you wish to charge these folks with anything, be my guest. Otherwise, I must have to ask you to leave."

The policeman makes several sounds that don't actually make any words before storming away from your porch. The lawyer turn, waving politely to the cop before turning on you. "May I come in? Why thank you, how generous." Pushing his way into the house.

He closes the door, waits a few seconds, and surveys the three of you with piercing blue eyes. Some unseen cue causes him to break the gaze and seat himself in an armchair in your living room. He cracks his knuckles, before opening his briefcase and pulling out a manila folder.

"Ashley Westmont. Does that name sound familiar to any of you?"

I am fine with acting a bit suspicious, but ultimately the guy helped us and seems to be in the know. We desperately need an in with someone in the know that isn't the vamps. So whatever we do, lets NOT completely foul this up with unnecessary aggression

"Possibly."

"I plead the 5th." Steve blurts out.

The lawyer chuckles. "Of course this conversation is protected by attorney-client privilege. I swear on my mother's grave. You may call me Lucian."

Fuck it. "Last night, I was shot, some vampires clearly know who I am and where I live. Yeah, I know Ashley. I killed her a month ago. Want to know what else? I'm tired of being in the dark. You clearly know more about this crap than I do. What's going on?"

The lawyer takes a deep breath. "You have been careless the last few months. The existence of werewolves is not something we wish to be made public, for reasons which should be obvious. When something cannot be covered up appropriately by local authorities, I become involved."

"You are..."

(cont.)
>>
>>31059914
Lucian grins. "Unlike the vampires you've met before." Fluffy is out, sleeping off the injuries from the night. "The others you encountered were but children. Ashley Westmont was not even one hundred. Us elders can disguise our presence from you as easily as they can disguise their presence from humans." Lucian clasps his hands. "And this brings me back to you. As the elder in charge of upholding this facade of normalcy in this part of the world. I have two options.

"I can kill you, and mindwash those who have seen too much as I have done thirty seven odd times this century...

"Or I can leave this quaint little town with some assurance that you will not make any further trouble for me. Which will it be?"

You glance at Steve and Janice, fear and doubt written over their faces.

>"You don't care that I murdered one of your own?"
>"Will the other vampires still come after me?"
>>
>>31059935

Well, actually both are applicable. I'd use a mix of those two, asking

>"You don't care that I murdered one of your own?"

first, and the latter later.

"The other vampires sure seemed to care I killed Ashley. Don't you?"

"A good attorney represents his client regardless of personal beliefs."

"Bullshit." Steve says.

A look of annoyance creeps over Lucian's face. "Ashley Westmont was 57 years 'old.' A decade ago, her sire disowned her. That she managed to get herself destroyed by a werewolf outside of a full moon was a testament to her incompetence. Nothing of value was lost." The disdain practically drips from his last words.

"Not that I'm complaining, but if you're as powerful as you're implying, wouldn't just killing us be easier?" Steve asks.

Lucian shrugs. "Probably. When one has walked the earth for a thousand years, 'the easy way' starts to lose meaning. This will be much more entertaining. I'm interested in seeing how long you can struggle with your inner demon. When will it finally consume you? I've made a wager with one of my associates that you can last north of 5 years."

So you're just an amusement. "Well, even though you don't care, the other vampires sure do. I'd have been fine last night if they didn't interfere."

Lucian reaches into his pocket and withdraws three identical large golden rings inlaid with blood-red jewels. "These rings signify that you are under my protection. Keep them on your person and you will no longer be accosted by nightwalkers."

"You're protecting us?"

"Technically, it signifies that you are my property." Lucian waves his hand in the air. "Which is a meaningless distinction from your perspective. Regardless, a vampire would have to be very old - or very stupid - to attack you knowing this."

>That seems... fair?
>If you don't mind me asking, what are the stakes (hah!) of your wager?
>>
>>31060510
Well, it is an offer we can't really refuse. Either a 1000+ year old vamp kills us now, or he extends his protection from his kind and we promise to not fuck the masquerade.
Saying yes seems like the obvious choice (even if we just plan on bolting from the town)
>>
>>31060605
>(even if we just plan on bolting from the town)
To clarify, I am not saying we should. just that it is an option. The city might not be an ideal place for a werewolf to lair. Should probably sell the parent's house and move out to the country
>>
>>31060510

It's not like we have any sensible choice if we want to live. We should be wary though, if we are just his entertainment, those amulets might as well mean in secret society terms "this fucker can be maimed since he will regenerate anyway, use as a pet, but only once in a month". So...yeah, carefully accept the inevitable.
>>
>>31060510
Might as well. Don't have to like it!
>>
>>31060510

You guys can also use this opportunity to ask him any specific 'lore' questions as well.

Since both vampires and werewolves are real, I am guessing other mythological creatures are too. are they?
>>
>>31060668
Ask if there's a way to control the wolf?
>>
>>31060714

Considering that this quest is less WoD and more Buffy Vampire Slayer (which is good and fresh took on it, I specifically like it about this quest) we can assume that meeting ghosts, devils and frankenstein is highly probable.

You cautiously take the the ring and feel it's weight in the palm of your hand. "If you don't mind me asking, what are the stakes of your bet?"

Lucian chuckles at the pun. "Some pittance of a few million dollars which has been collecting interest for a few decades if I lose. If I win, the blood of a virgin. Dreadfully hard to come by these days."

Steve takes one of the ring as well, looking at it as though it were a loaded gun. "So uh... what else is real? Ghosts? Bigfoot? The Loch Ness Monster? Chupacabras?"

"Most of them are, or were. Until your kind killed them off." Lucian responds. "You wish to know a bit of a history lesson? Most monsters that you've heard of are based in truth. Humanity, however, has always preferred to be the hunter rather than the prey. Various people throughout history - the Catholic Church being the largest example - have devised ways to fight creatures like me. Long ago, before even my time, some tribe made a deal with a demon for power to destroy vampires, yetis, hags, witches, whatever. On that night, the first werewolf was born.

"I was not speaking figuratively when I referred to your inner demon." He points a finger at your chest. "The creature that is currently sleeping inside your body was born to hunt all supernatural creatures. Conveniently that extends to your own kind, or else there would be far fewer vampires and far more werewolves."

"Will this ring do anything if I run into other werewolves?"

"No. It is but a symbol of my stature among vampire."

"Is there any way to control the wolf? Permanently?"

"That is what I am interested in discovering." You see something akin to curiosity in Lucian's eyes. "I have heard rumors of a man in Nevada who is in control, even during the full moon. By some accounts, he can even turn himself at will. I do not fully believe those stories. He goes by the name Ahiga. If you wish to tame the beast, finding him is likely your best bet."

He gave us valuable clue, but if he is so old, maybe he was in this town before? I mean, a year ago, when our family died. Maybe he knows something.
>>
>>31061209
We should plan the trip accordingly, like going on it a day after next months transformation, and bringing chains, lots of them.

Lucian waits patiently for a few seconds. "Well this has been a pleasure, but I have business to attend to in Milwaukee." He stands, adjusts his suit and leaves, waving on his way out. "Good luck."

As soon as the door closes behind him, the three of you crumple down on the couch, letting out an audible sigh in unison. "So, roadtrip to Nevada?" Janice says hesitantly.

"Listen, Janice." Steve says. "I think maybe you should stay here."

She looks shocked. "You're going to leave me here and go on an adventure without me?"

"Woah, that's not what I mean. Just, you weren't very enthusiastic about this whole thing from the start, and frankly, your instincts have been terrible. If you've got that ring, you should be safe from vampires, and according to Lucian they're the biggest threat anyway."

Steve does have a point.
>No way, the three of you are in this together, for better or worse.

Well, it would be best if the two didn't do anything and we'd just depart, but it's not possible. Also just because Janice panicked it doesn't mean she won't hack demons with axe.
>>
>>31061611
>>31061544

"Steve, it's her decision. Sure she's made some mistakes, but I need all the help I can get. Janice, you want to come?"

She looks sheepishly at her feet. "Well yeah. I have to make last night up to you... Besides, you know how terrible work would be without you two?"

Steve chuckles. "Eddie'd enjoy it, having you all to himself." Janice shudders.

>Is the idea to leave as soon as possible or wait a month and plan things out? Your gut tells you that in a few days, Fluffy is going to be more agitated than usual this month.
>>
>>31061736

>Wait a month.

Jumping straight into things sounds like a terrible idea.
>>
>>31061736

Maybe it would be better to plan things out, find on google-maps a place that could be a good spot to wait chain ourselves to/wait our outburst of rage. Also Steve and Janice have to plan it somehow, tell friends, families...we have to think about job and monies we'd have...it will be a huge trip.
>>
>>31061882
>>31061889

Ok. Going to spend a month preparing, saving up some cash and planning the trip.

Sorry about the short update today, but I didn't want to leave it hanging last night. I'll need another day or two to plan for Werewolf Roadtrip Quest.

I'll be sticking around for a while today if you guys want to yell at me and say how much I suck or whatever.

Already archived the thread last night. Twitter's in the OP, and I'll tweet when I decide if next thread is tomorrow or Thursday.

out of curiosity... we own our parent's old house? does it have a mortgage or is it fully paid?
>>
>>31062009

It's fully paid. It's a small house, your parents lived within their means, and since you didn't go to college, you don't have any outstanding loans.
>>
>>31061991
>>31062028

You don't suck, don't worry. You just have a trouble of getting low amount of posters, I myself am interested in your thread, but could participate yesterday only for 3h since I live in Europe and if not for staying night for a project, I wouldn't write anything.

Btw - did we check our house for any clues our parents might have left? They store old things in basement, maybe there would be a partial clue why some other werewolf attacked them? I know that in case of werewolves it might have been accidental, but still...
>>
>>31062290

Oh, ok. I didn't get why you guys had been so fixated on Meredith's parents. Even in hindsight, they don't seem supernatural in any way to you. In the basement, there's not like a cardboard box filled with Ouija boards, chalk, salt, and pentagrams or anything. It doesn't appear that the werewolf was drawn attack them specifically. They were just the closest nearby.
>>
>>31062690

Oh well, you know, I'm just seeking plot clues. We don't really know what's true and what isn't in this setting, maybe accidents weren't accidents at all, you know, this sort of thing.
>>
>>31062723

That's fair. Also understandable now that I think about it. "Werewolves specifically hunt supernaturals" + "your parents were killed" does logically follow that "your parents might have had something going on."

Maybe if I get the time before next session, I'll write up the story of that night. It's in character knowledge anyway, and this wasn't the first time someone's been confused about the event.
>>
>>31062775

That would be cool, I'd appreciate the effort.
