Welcome to Academy City. The time is morning, the weather is partly cloudy and the date is August 3.

You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error and you’re in for a busy day today. The plan was to go around and crush a Skill-Out gang by the name of Big Spider. Given that you had the location of three of their alleged bases, you were hoping your information wasn’t wrong. Otherwise it might make the task more difficult than necessary.

Going with you is Asuka, who in now official terms is your girlfriend. Good as you think you are, you’re pretty sure that the two of you just can’t waltz in and expect to mop the floor with them all on your own. It’d make a great date though. There were several people off the top of your head that would probably have an interest in helping you against Big Spider. The Railgun for one, though you’re not sure how to get in to contact with her. Then there are Sagara and Tadakuni, two of your buddies, provided they weren’t busy would probably lend a hand if you asked for it. You’re also pretty sure THIEF would have some info on Big Spider but you’re not sure how much the information would cost.

There’s still an hour and a half before you have to head out and Sivan the vampire hunter has just returned to your dorm.

With a brief exchange of words and breakfast, or dinner you suppose in Sivan’s case, the vampire hunter flops down on your bed and gets to catching some “Zs”. Your guest had assured you that once he went to sleep it’d take a vampire attack to wake him up. You’re not sure if he meant that literally but it helps you feel less reserved in regards to making noise. Thinking of the future, you decide to prepare some lunches in advance while you call for some back up.

Sagara and Tadakuni live in your dorm so it takes only a few minutes for them to assemble in your room. You suspect that bribing them with free lunch was a good idea.

“What’s the plan today then boss?” Tadakuni was as eager as ever to cause some trouble.

“Big Spider, we need to send them a message,” you answer.

“You know, this reminds me of the time,” Sagara starts but Tadakuni interrupts.

“I know. Big mover and shaker right? If you want my opinion, we’re already there.”

Sagara only gives a mildly disappointed look as you laugh and call up Asuka.

“Good morning my dear Kyril.”

She’s already skipping to the husband-wife address!?!

“As much as I would love for this to be a private outing,” she continues suggestively, “It seems like The Railgun feels the need to join. I’m not sure whether you’ll have the experience to handle all three of us at once.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll bring friends,” you reply non-plussed.

“Oh dear you are such a cad.”

Well looks like that’s that. Would you like to carry a .45 today?

Once again, you leave the gun behind seeing as The Railgun would be accompanying you. From the call with Asuka, you conclude that Shirai was probably going to tag along. She was part of Judgement and you didn’t want to be caught with a firearm on your person in that situation. Funnily enough, your friends don’t seem to notice Sivan sleeping in your bed and if they did you’d probably have no idea how to explain it to them without sounding deluded. Food for thought as you lock up your dorms and head out.

The Dictator, The Railgun, and Shirai, are waiting in front of their dorms as agreed upon and the three of you then set out for an area in School District 10 that people call The Strange. Asuka and you are the only two who are holding hands however. The Railgun is silently putting up with Sagara’s attempt at flirting with her whilst Shirai is trying her damndest to keep track of Tadakuni who keeps slipping in to her blind spots.

“If I am not mistaken, is The Railgun not already taken?” Asuka asks you.

“Huh? No, I don’t think so,” you reply, “Sagara wouldn’t hit on her otherwise.”

“Then I wish him well on his endeavours. She could use some mellowing out.”

You’re sure Asuka is being suggestive on purpose because the Railgun only glares harder in your direction.

>>30980433
“Now on to more practical considerations,” Asuka continues, “There are three locations for us to investigate and there are six of us. If we break off in to pairs then we could investigate them all simultaneously. Alternatively, we stay as one party and investigate each location one by one.”

The three locations you recall were an old warehouse, an unused lot under a defunct highway and a former chop shop. Only the warehouse was in The Strange proper, the others were nearby. It was about ten minutes travel between each.

You decide to split up and hit them all at once. There is a bit of an argument about the composition of the teams though. Sparky and Shirai were quite content to stick together but Asuka proved to be very persuasive. It wasn’t a surprise then when Sparky elected to go with Tadakuni, thus leaving Shirai and Sagara with each other. Between the three of them, Tadakuni was the quietest and outwardly the least likely to attempt to molest, flirt or otherwise act in the hopes to get in her pants. Either way, Asuka came away from that argument with no small amount of smugness. She was definitely up to something.

Picking targets involved another round of discussion though Asuka remained quiet for this. Her reason was that she didn’t mind where she went as long as it was with you. The sappy remark made Shirai gag. Still, the issue remained. The warehouse was probably your standard hideout for most gangs. The unused lot was the odd one out but apparently it had been an old meeting spot according to Konori. You remember Big Spider used vans with some kind of Ability dampener inside chances were good that the chop shop was still in use.

Which one do you hit?

You decide on heading to the warehouse. Sparky for her part considers taking a look at the chop shop leaving Shirai and Sagara to scour the unused lot. Frankly the old lot was probably going to turn up nothing but it didn’t hurt to check. Even then, Shirai should be able to teleport quickly enough to lend assistance to whoever needed it the most.

There weren’t any people hanging around on street corners as you made your way closer to the warehouse. Strange but then again, the namesake neighbourhood looked even rougher than what you were used to. Still there was some traffic but otherwise nobody was looking to bother you and Asuka as you walked to your destination.

As for the warehouse it wasn’t fenced off but it did have the big loading doors at the front. There’s a fire escape off to the side as well as a smaller entrance opposite. You’re also pretty sure there was also another entry point. A shockingly pink van is parked further down in an alley. There were also no sentries. Strange.

“Well, I would assume that you have a plan of attack,” Asuka starts, “Normally I would just walk in and leave only rubble but a part of me is curious as to your approach.”

They van was probably carrying the Ability dampener, or at least, Tamezou’s did. It didn’t hurt to check anyway. It wasn’t the same one that Tamezou had but it looked similar enough. The windows weren’t tinted and you could see there wasn’t anything inside that was worthy of note save for the speakers in the back. It was cleverly disguised to look like a pimped out trunk but you’re pretty sure that was where they were hiding. Before you could figure out how to break in to it, Asuka slides The Dean through the backdoor’s lock mechanism. The car alarm does not go off, though she seems amused at your expression.

“I assumed they did not acquire the car through legal methods thus they should have disabled the anti-theft system,” she justifies her actions.

Whether she was right or not remained to be seen for if Big Spider were smart they’d install a silent alarm in its place. Still you now had access to the interior and your quick search nets you a pistol hidden in the glove compartment. How quaint. It wasn’t quite the same as the M1911 but it was probably the same in most respects. Asuka for her part is rendering much of the expensive sound system inoperable as possible.

There is still no one. Time to enter the warehouse proper then.

Tucking the gun in to your coat as soon as you make sure the safety was on you climb up the ladder. It brings you to the top of the building with a vent that you could crawl through. Asuka for her part brings up the rear in quiet though she had to hold The Dean in her hand as she crawls along with you. You are finally deposited in some kind of control room though there is no one manning the cameras. This again is strange. After catching Asuka like a bride, you see the cause of the lack of sentries. Someone has beaten you to the punch and was fighting the better part of twenty or so gangers and winning.

The one you assume was the leader of the gang was holed up in an office somewhere within the warehouse with four other goons but you’re not sure that was. This was a warehouse though so it shouldn’t be too hard to find. Returning to the monitors you notice that the gangers have started pulling out pistols and now what started as a fist fight was turning in to a running gun battle as the mysterious attacker was dashing between cover and still sticking to his fists. Asuka only looks on with glee before unsheathing The Dean and dashing out of the room.

Well you leave Asuka to her fight. You didn’t interfere last time and you don’t think it’d be a good thing to start now. No, you think it would be best if went after the leader for this. It turns out his office was only a short walk in the opposite direction of the giant clusterfuck of bullets, swords and fisticuffs that was developing in the main hold of the warehouse.

Getting close enough to the door was no problem. The problem now was deciding how you were going to approach this situation. You could hear shouting from the room.

“This is what you promised bitch!”

“Well fuck you and your stupid experiment too.”

Then you hear a loud crash and various shouts of subordinates trying to calm their leader down. With the element of surprise you’re pretty sure you could take on five other guys especially if you had your gun out. The question was how to subdue them. They’ll probably have weapons on them too but you’re not sure what else they could be hiding. Hell you’re not sure if the minions were willing to take a hit for the team or not so going in guns blazing would be easy.

Kicking open the door, the five guys inside didn’t even have a chance to act surprised when you rush in with the pistol in your hand with the safety off. It was to your surprise, and to their horror that when you pulled the trigger the gun fired not once, not twice, nor three times but continuously. You were expecting recoil from a shot or two but this was a little beyond your expectation. It didn’t take long for you to empty it’s mag in to the five thugs stunned thugs grouped up tightly in the room.

When the last echo of the gun shots left your ears you stood there and took in the results of the shooting. Thankfully you hear some groaning so at least someone was alive. The closest ones were so lucky, you can tell from the holes in their head that they probably wouldn’t getting back up soon. The thug that wasn’t groaning was staring blankly at his bloody hand as more blood poured out of his neck. It was the boss of them that started cursing.

“What the fuck?” he looks at you, “WHAT THE FUCK YOUR PROBLEM?”

You have just killed two, most likely three, men. What is your reaction?

You really, really didn’t want things to turn out this way but then again you were charging in to a room with a gun raised and poised to fire. You didn’t want to kill these guys, but you still put them down. Maybe they deserved it, or maybe they didn’t but you realise that it could have easily been you. They weren’t specifically responsible for the attacks on you. It was more to whom or what they belonged. Would you end up the same way? Shot dead because one of your friends did something stupid and you had to be the message?

However, the boss’ question rang out again, his cursing bringing you out of your reflection. First things first, you had to remain calm. He sees you casually putting the gun back in your jacket before leaving quietly. A little part of you was glad you weren’t full of holes like he and his buddies though you’d probably not have the mind for lunch today. Then the thought of dealing with the consequences falls squarely on your shoulders. You don’t think you want to be arrested for murder at this age.

Well first you’ll want to erase the tapes so you return somewhat sluggishly to the security room. Thank you Academy City user interface design. The next item you wished to acquire was a can of gas of which you find on a floor below you. With some mental gymnastics you retrieve it and return to the office. The boss just releases a tired sigh once he sees what you’re carrying. Belatedly you realise you almost forgot the second part of you plan.

“You Big Spider?”

Recognition dawns on the boss.

“Yeah,” he says glumly, “What’s left of it.”

With his answer you upend the contents of the can.

“I’m sorry, Wataru,” he continues to speak to himself, “For everything.”

You ignore him and before long the fire starts up and you leave for good.

Asuka and the mystery man are waiting downstairs by the main entrance. The Dean is slick with blood and its user is just as bloodied. You are unsure of how much of that blood is hers but she seems pleased with herself despite the small favouring of her leg.

“I assume you have disposed of the boss.”

Her poor choice of words rattles you but you manage a nod.

“Kurozuma Wataru,” the mystery man introduces himself, “I guess I should thank you for your help huh?”

You mumble your name and you three move out of the area. The name rings a bell. You think your memory of this day was going to be unforgettable.

Hey OP, how distict are the Dean's slash marks? We have to worry about them linking Asuka to the crime scene?
>>
>>30987608
Don't worry about it. The fire will resolve all issues equally.
>>
>>30987608
It'd be a perplexing set of cut and stab wounds. The cuts are long and sometimes deep enough to seem like a butcher's cleaver was used but the stab wounds look like something lengthy was used. This is discounting external factors at the scene.

Hmm? Oh, you can do detailed analyses of wounds and cut objects. Besides, each blade has something like a fingerprint, groves and variances in thickness of the steel that you can determine with patience ant the right equipment. I'm just worried that someone will get the bright idea of trying to match the pattern left by the blades at the crime scene to Dean. Could be bad.

You don’t see it but you can feel the fire blazing up. As you walk, Kurozuma tells you a story. He tells you of a time when Big Spider was just an average bunch of teens looking for a place to belong. A gang of bike enthusiasts and Level 0s all bunched up together and they looked out for their own. It was like any other gang basically. That was until a year or two ago. It was when Kurozuma’s number two, Hebitani got in to some deep shit that the former ended up in the slammer and the latter took up his boss’ name.

“Big Spider has changed,” he concluded his tale, “I intend to put an end to them and bring Hebitani to justice.”

His description of Hebitani was very much like the man you just shot and set on fire.

“He was sorry,” you repeated his words.

It brings you all to a stop. The two sets of eyes bore down on you.

“When I left him, his last words were, ‘I’m sorry, Wataru.’ I don’t know if he was really your friend or not though.”

Kurozuma only gives you a look before his gaze settles on the odd bulge in your jacket.

“Torikov, give me the gun.”

You’ve only taken it out when you realise that he was going to take the last bit of proof from you. The only proof that would link you to the crime and the deed you just did. If he took it away all you will have left is the guilt. Could you live with that?

“What are you going to do with?” you ask.

“I’m going to make sure no one else uses it,” he replies.

Wiping off as much of the gun as possible you let him take it from you. It might not have your prints on it but you definitely touched it. Kurozuma ejects the mag and checks the barrel, sighing after finding both are empty. He pockets it before he winds up and punches you in the face. It was a strong one, enough to floor you. You really were too dazed to expect the attack and just as confused as he looks down at you.

“Now listen up,” he starts, “If anyone asks, you got in to a fistfight with Kurozuma Wataru. That’s all, you got it?”

“Perfectly,” Asuka replies in your stead.

With that Kurozuma leaves you staring at his back. It takes a while but Asuka helps you up. It’s clear she doesn’t mind that you’re not talking about what you may or may not have done with a gun to Hebitani Tsuguo. If you wished to talk to her about it, it would have to wait as your phone rings. The one calling it is an unknown number.

“Oh The Railgun must be done,” Asuka notes, “I must say she is slow for an Electromaster.”

Putting the thought of your actions at the back of your mind, you answer the phone.

“Hello?”

“Finally, I thought this was the wrong number again,” Sparky’s voice filters in through the phone, “I got your number from your friend. Anyway, we found some goons hanging around here. I took them out but they were building some kind of weird speaker system though I’m not sure what they’re about. How about you, find anything on your end?”

You mouth, “it’s Sparky,” to Asuka before replying,

“More thugs and a van,” your words come out slowly, “They were dealt with.”

“Dear do not forget our friend,” Asuka adds.

Right.

“We also met the Kurozuma Wataru, the original leader of Big Spider. He’s looking to take them down apparently.”

“Hmmm is that so? Well Kuroko says she hasn’t found anything on her end. Should we regroup and compare notes or should I give you two some time alone?”

The thought of being left alone with Asuka was nice. Maybe talking to her would be good for you. Then you remember that Sagara has the damn picnic basket so if you wanted lunch you were going to have to buy some on your own. You’re also not sure if you could look straight at Shirai anymore. She was Judgement. How were you going to look in to those eyes now that you knew she was right about you? That you really weren’t the nice guy you claimed to be.

“Well when you put it like that Sparky,” you trail off to let her know her choice.

“Goddamn pervert,” she hangs up.

“I take it you wish to be alone now?” you nod and she frowns, “Well then unfortunately for you, I do not wish for you to be alone. You will be having lunch with me now Dear.”

Thus she drags you off to a nearby canal, first of all to wash off The Dean and what small amount of blood that she couldn’t wipe off. There wasn’t so much that she couldn’t pass it off as sauce. You sit alongside her, knees hugged to your chest, staring in to the water. The sound of disturbed water is only broken by her next words.

“You do not have to tell me what you did,” she starts as she washes her hands, “I already figured it out. You killed Hebitani.”

It was a statement of fact. There was no accusation there nor was there any pity. You don’t deny it, especially in front of her, in front of someone who could make you reveal the truth. She raises The Dean. Droplets of water make the sunlight dance along the blade.

“Do you know what this is?” she asks you not expecting an answer, “This is a sword, and I have wielded it for as long as I was able to hold it.”

She dries and lays The Dean on the ground and starts washing her hands again.

“And do you know how long it takes for an average person to exsanguinate if their femoral artery was cut?”

Her hands wash themselves with greater intensity.

“I wish I did not know.”

Her cool wet hands grasp your cheeks.

“I will not judge you but I hope that you will come to terms with what you’ve done in time.”

You drop off Asuka at the dorm, thanking her with another kiss before leaving for work. If Shirai was right about you always being up to no good then the least you could do was some honest work. Maybe this time you’ll have some peace and quiet, just working your hands and not thinking of anything. Your boss Number 3 doesn’t comment much on your present demeanour and the two of you spend hours on that rocket engine. No random pyros show up to steal Number 3’s hydrazine given that he no longer had any. Thus you work, you work your afternoon away.

You are Kurozuma Wataru and you just got out of jail. It’s been a long time since you last breathed freely but your skills haven’t dulled in there. You’d say it made you stronger but only physically. After all, the reason you ended up in the slammer in the first place was because you had to bail out Hebitani. He was a loyal little puppy and as naïve. You just hoped that your time away hasn’t gotten him in to more trouble.

In fact you were curious if Big Spider were around. They were your gang, your crew and most importantly, they were your family. It was you who founded it and you who made sure you took care of all the kids there. The reason it was called Big Spider? Probably because you had a tattoo of a red web and a black widow with a stylised S that spanned the whole of your upper back.

Now you know it’s been a while there were plenty of people you’d love to see first.

You can force it to update by just resubmitting the thread. Will still have the same title/tags/description of the original archival, but the posts you missed will be grabbed.

You decide to check up on that small Ability User girl you used to know. She too was part of your little family even if she was a Level 2 Ability User. Clairvoyance was her Ability if you remember. A face to face meeting was only a literal stone’s throw away. Before that though you manage to confirm that she did indeed join Judgement so you don’t try and deck her with anything bigger than a pebble. You also note that the little girl was no longer so ‘little,’ at least in the areas that counted. Still she was a kid in your mind and her crush on you was kind of cute but otherwise meaningless in the end. She could do so much better than an ex-ganger who went to juvie.

That also reminded you of another change. Unlike her, Big Spider has changed and not for the better. They weren’t the same bunch of rough and tumble bikers you knew anymore. These were real thugs, going around and harassing Ability Users. While you personally had nothing against them, the current Big Spider seemed to have made it a personal mission to attack and put out of commission Ability Users. They were using some kind of machine to aid them and word on the street was that some chump named Tamezou was heading the next attacks.

It took you forever to track them down but when you finally did you realise that Tamezou was either really dumb to split his forces like that or supremely confident in his trump card.
>Follow Tamezou the main suspect
>Stick around the suspicious pink van

>Stick around the suspicious pink van
>>
You decide to stick around the suspicious pink van. It could be a prelude to a kidnapping given the traffic on the streets. There is a small middle school girl heading up the road with an older male though it seems they are splitting up. You counted five thugs in total though you’re not sure where the others went. Still you don’t hesitate when they all jump her. Her uniform was from Tokiwadai but she seems to be unable to call on her Ability. In effect they were picking a fight with a girl and that was not cool.

There were five of them true but they really weren’t even worth a fraction of Jericho, or Boyka, or hell even Bishop. Those guys were tough as nails could give more than they got, in the ring or in the showers. They were your mentors. These chumps who relied too much on numbers, weapons and the absolute advantage they possessed, would be the prison’s bitch by your reckoning. Individually they were weak thus their tactics crumbled when you removed one of them from the equation. You dismantled her attackers and didn’t even leave a name.

Now you knew that this wasn’t your Big Spider. This was simply another gang and though it may not be lawful, you still had your own brand of justice to dish out.

Interlude End. Is it really 5 am in ‘Murrica? We resume Wednesday.

Anyway, I enjoyed it. Think Kyril might channel some of this firstblood angst into gettin gud at TK so he's strong enough to feel like he doesn't need to use a gun?
>>

I also now realise that I've been running for twelve hours straight with a late supper (around midnight) and now lunch.
>>30991865
Definitely a turning point yeah, but I expect we'll come to a decision in a thread, or two, depending on how /tg/ plays it.
>>
>>30992041
How do rolls interact with people at a way lower level?

Like, if we played as Accelerator and rolled a 1 when attacked by lv0 thugs. Would it turn into a wacky beatdown where he accidentally vectors something into his own face and gets KO'd or would he fuck up on holding back and just kill them all and maybe cause a ton of collateral damage?
>>
>>30992096
It defaults to reflection, so I doubt he would have to roll unless he was actively experimenting like the plasma ball. Kyril's never used a gun before, right?
>>
>>30992096
They don't. They are simply there to decide magnitude of success or failure (and randomise shit for me so it's not auto-hits all day every day). If you were the thug and Accelerator rolled a 1 you'd probably get away without injury from whatever attack you used. Surviving past that is another matter. To bring out a more demonstrative example, if I rolled a below a 10 for damage when you ran in with your gun earlier you'd have superficially grazed them whilst losing control of your weapon.

>>30992121
Not until now.
