Breaker Quest episode 3

You are Michael Groves, a gender swapped magical girl who has just up until recently was in bed comfortably sleeping alongside with a female friend who seems to be intent on helping you out and demonic bunnygirl that you'd transformed from an actual bunny with magic and the essence of a demon last night.

The last couple of days had been eventful. You’d found out that magic existed, and that it was covered up in a giant conspiracy – which you then promptly signed up to and made use of it. You’d gained magical powers yourself – a tingle of the sensation of magic reminding you that a sword was now always at hand’s reach, ready to be summoned forth. You’d fought – or rather placated creatures called demons, soft, seductive girls with the desires of rabbits, wishing to lure you to sleep, to cuddle with them, to rest alongside them. You’d found the girl you liked also liked you back – at least when you were male – and had been surprisingly helpful to keep your feelings in check this whole time. You’d even managed to procure one of the aforementioned bunnygirl demons for yourself, to see what help she might be able to give you, to have her just to calm yourself, to pat softly. And you’d woken up wrapped in both of their arms, well rested and… surprisingly happy.

It was all this that made one of your friends actually turning into a girl with magic seem almost insignificant.

On reaching the toilet, of course, your new body did emphasise the "almost" part of "almost insignificant". Having to sit down, having to clean yourself up after… Somewhat of a pain to do. Walking, too, when you brought your mind to it. The plumpness of your rear now exaggerated each step, making you sway in a manner you definitely weren’t used to. At least you weren’t well endowed in the front – you consider it in the mirror, cupping the faint mounds on your chest through the pyjamas your close friend Cassie had leant you. Not as big as her – and definitely not as big as Jean – nothing much to speak home about. Or your new height, for that matter.

“At least that’s something.” The foreign girl in the mirror speaks with your new voice, mimicking your movements, and you sigh. You might eventually get used to the new form, but it didn’t feel like you would – or should – any time soon.

A small cry and a thump alerts you back to the bedroom, and you burst in to see Cassie lying on the floor spitting and the bunnygirl still snoozing on the centre of the bed. She looks up at you from ground level, making a face of disgust.

“Got her ear in my mouth,” she whispers, and you nod. At least you weren’t the only one with problems.

---

“So. Easy questions first, since you fell asleep far too fast to answer yesterday.” At the dining table, a quick breakfast of toast lay cooling between the two of you, Cassie handing over the butter knife and biting into her own food.

“The girl – the bunny – another magical thing, no doubt? She seemed to be calling you master?” The teenager’s expression doesn’t change as you explain to her about how you’d picked up the rabbit after defeating the rest of the sleepy bunny demons yesterday, about how Atropos, the Magi and person who’d explained a whole bunch of magic stuff to you – had said it was ok to have a familiar, and- well, all magical girls need a familiar, don’t they?
>>
“And… you used the demon core Jean gave you to do that? The things that allow you to wish yourself back to normal and get out of this… crazy magic stuff? I can’t decide whether you’re… whether you’re just… gah!” She throws her arms up, rolling her eyes.

You point out that she was really cute, and that Cassie herself didn’t seem to mind jumping into bed with her. She doesn’t particularly respond well to that, fuming for a while.

“Well, she doesn’t seem too dangerous…Hunting demons isn’t going to be too dangerous, is it?” she asks eventually, and you have to shrug truthfully. The first one hadn’t seemed too bad, but Atropos’ words had certainly made you more cautious of them. And, of course, that wasn’t the least of your problems.

“Jean and Atropos are going to cast some magic or something on you to make it so no-one thinks it’s that odd for you to be a girl, right?” A nod from you to confirm, and she carries on. “That means we really should get you a wardrobe, and after that reintroduce you to all your friends. Otherwise you’re going to procrastinate, and it won’t get done even when it’s time to go back to school. Which one do you want to do first?”

[ ] I think I’ll take my chances with the new clothing, thanks.
[ ] Friends, before a new wardrobe. At least wearing old clothes to that would make me more comfortable.
[ ] I think we should probably chat to my new bunny first, shouldn’t we?

[X] I think I’ll take my chances with the new clothing, thanks.

Your friends seeing you like this? You shudder slightly, imagining how the guys down at the comic store would react on hearing that kind of news. Thomas – well, Thomas hadn’t been so bad, at least, but some of the others made your best friend look like a saint. They weren’t even properly friends, now you came to think about it closely, but mostly just folks you hung out with once in a while at the shop. And clothes were supposed to make everything better for girls.. right?

The scowl on Cassie’s face told you that wasn’t the case, but she said that she’d let you off on the bad jokes. For now.

After leaving a portion of lettuce and sliced carrots on a dish for your bunnygirl and a note on where you were going, both of you left the house – she in her casual jeans and halter top, you in your- well, her – baggy hoodie and tracksuits. You look somewhat of a mess, but, that was the point of a shopping expedition, you guessed.

“Cassie?” you asked at one point on the way to the mall, your hands in your pockets as the bus jolted from stop to stop. “About what you said about wanting me to make the first move, if- if you wanted a relationship…”

“We’ll talk about it later,” she had replied briefly. “After you’re all sorted out.”

---
>>
>>30937568

The mall this time was much more packed, and the pair of you have to squeeze past a throng of people to get to the department sections.

“What’s all the fuss about?” Pulling one of the helpers away lead you to having a pamphlet handed to you, some sort of pop-star singing competition – you briefly wonder about what kind of girls would be singing in it and that perhaps you should have brought Thomas with you before Cassie pulls you back onto the right track, almost forcibly ploughing you through the crowd into the underwear section whereupon you started blushing and fidgeting as one of the staff and Cassie started stripping you down to measure you out of sight. You barely even have time to voice a mumbled complaint before you’ve been made to purchase some chaste white bras and basic panties (the price just as shocking to you) before you’re finally given a chance to breathe.

“Now that you’ve got the basics, at least, you can worry about what you’re going to wear on top of that. Oh, don’t look at me like that, you can buy some more.. fancy ones or whatever later if you’re that concerned. What sort of style do you want to wear now you’re female, anyway?”

[ ] Masculine clothing. I might as well be tomboyish if I want to hold onto that sort of maleness.
[ ] Feminine clothing..? If I’m going to be female for a long time, I might as well look the part.
[ ] Can’t we get something gender neutral? I’m not quite that worried about clothing…

[x] Masculine clothing. I might as well be tomboyish if I want to hold onto that sort of maleness.

It takes you a while dithering on choosing between more masculine and feminine clothing, but overall you choose to go with a selection between what you were more comfortable with – more things that you think boys would choose – casual trousers and T-shirts and whatever – and a couple of girly outfits, just in case. Cassie herself doesn’t seem to disapprove, though she does pick out some choicer cuts that “would accentuate”, which didn’t exactly fill you with confidence but DID fit nicely round your rear and body. You wince slightly at how much all of this was going to be costing your hard earned savings, but if this wasn’t a rainy day situation you didn’t know what was.

The cornerpiece of your new wardrobe, which was beginning to weight down in plastic bags between Cassie and you, was a particularly tight fitting suit, which your friend seemed immeasurably pleased with for some reason. You left off buying a dress until last, picking out something subdued and blue, even if it was a little frilly round the bottom and neck. Enough at least to last you the holidays, at least. Even if this much clothing drained your funds somewhat dry.

That was another grimace. Going back to school was a frightening thought – Atropos said he was going to sort things out with that, but honestly you had no idea how he was going to manage that. And even if he did, having everyone there see you in this form… Cassie and Thomas was one thing, but… -You shake off the thought as the two of you push through the crowd again, reaching the upper floors for a moment’s rest. Until someone tackles Cassie in a flying hug, that is.

“Hey, girl! And mysterious girl says she who knows me!”
>>
>>30938499

Angelina, one of Cassie’s friends – fair haired and always sweetly smiling and almost always surrounded by other giggling girls - was currently wrapped around the other girl’s neck, hugging her far too enthusiastically for your liking. “My father was wondering about who exactly knew Jean and I, and I can’t say I had the pleasure of meeting you even though you know Car- Cassie-“

“The girl is Michael, Angie-! And, hey, hands off, we’re in public!” Disentangling herself, Cassie staggers to keep her balance as she smiles suddenly, brushing herself down. “Michael turned into a girl in my closet yesterday.”

You hold your breath, shocked at the blasé way Cassie just stated that outright, as Angelina leaned over to you, looking you up and down. Even more shocked as she leans over and squeezes you in a hug which you’re don’t respond to at first, not sure exactly where to put your hands.

“-Dug too greedily, too deep into her closet, huh? Well, you didn’t grope me as much this time round, but it definitely is you, isn’t it? That solves one mystery! I guess this is a new experience for you, right?”
>>
>>30938543

A nod from you, somewhat startled at how easily she accepted it. –Jean’s magic already working? –But there was little time to think about it as Angelica pulls both of you on, leading you deeper into the mall. You really didn't recall groping that shapely figure, and you really should do, if you had had that kind of chance to.

“-So business started to pick up again yesterday when the bunnies started to sell again – they were really miserable for a long while but seemed to cheer up! Which was glad, and you were the first person to buy one in a long time, and I'm glad, Daddy's business really wasn't doing too well. You’ll have to let me see her when I come over next time!!”

Her cheerfulness was infectious, and you couldn’t help but smile and nod along as Cassie rolls her eyes at seeing you chat and stutter.

That’s when you feel the stab of magic, a similar feel of what you’d felt last time – an aching headache. Somewhere close by – a demon was lurking.

[ ] Ignore it. You could go one day without getting in a fight, right?
[ ] Evacuate. Let’s get all of us to safe distance, and call in Jean to deal with this.

[x] Evacuate. Let’s get all of us to safe distance, and call in Jean to deal with this.

-You weren’t foolish enough to take on a demon on your own, not so soon. You turn towards where the faint emanations are coming from, somewhere below, you’re sure. You’ve already pulled your phone out and started dialing in Jean’s number as you hand over your clothes to Cassie, struggling to stop being pulled along by the other hanger-on. “Ah, Cassie, I just realised I did have something to do with Jean here, could you be great and get all this stuff home, along with Angelina here?” The grin you manage to force on your face seems only half-false, a chance to try out your new magic wasn’t something you had every day.

“Aww, but I wanted to hear the idol singing!” And Angelina holds her hand to her ear, listening out for something. The dial-tone connects, and you whisper to Jean about you feeling a demon in the mall.”

“That’s bad – the mall is pretty active, usually. The teleport needs about fifteen minutes to set up, I’ll meet you in the… western toilets, ok?” You agree, and Jean vanishes from the call.

And then you do hear it, a screeching caterwauling sound amidst clashing, violent tones. It sets your teeth on edge as you try to make out the vocals through the noise. The other two-

“Like elvish poetry set to tune and played on the sweetest of harps- Let’s go see it!” Angelina looking up in wonder.
“-It’s got a pretty good beat to it! I like it! –But-“ Cassie meets your eyes, tearing her attention away from the music to focus on you.
>>
>>30939090
“Ugh, it, uh, sounds like some kind of, satan demonic music to me. Real, um, demon like! I think it’d be better if you go home, both of you.” It’s fortunate that the overacting isn't noticed by the apparently blissed out girl, as Cassie nods as she gets the gist of the message.

“Always leaving it to the girls to do the heavy lifting, eh?” She gives you a weak grin as she clamps down on Angelina’s arm, starting to tug her towards the lifts. “Come on, I’ll tell you about what happened in the closet if you come along.”

With Angelina still protesting, you hear the two of them head off.

And you’re alone for the moment, listening to the ghastly noises.

[ ] Go check out the source of the music. An idea of what you’re up against would help, and you might need to clear civilians out the way.
[ ] Wait up for Jean before heading anywhere near the dangerous spots. The last thing you want to do is get sucked in before Jean gets here, even if some civilians end up wandering into the nightmare.

[x] Wait up for Jean before heading anywhere near the dangerous spots. The last thing you want to do is get sucked in before Jean gets here, even if some civilians end up wandering into the nightmare.

Waiting around listening to the discordant music was making you antsy, as you peer over the balcony to the floor below. Though most of the place was out of sight, there was a… discontinuity where the actual stage was, a subtle flickering where one’s eye would slide over the hole in space occupied by the nightmare. And yet the people stood around, looking into the blank area, cheering and clapping. It’s disturbing at how blankly grinning and shouting they are.

At least it wasn't rap music, you shudder to yourself. That would have been even worse, you bet.

It’s not until a good while after that that you notice the videos playing on the screens above – a closeup of a girl’s face, singing her heart out in screamed words, pupils dilated and suckling at the microphone. The way she bobs back and forth is hypnotic, and you have to blink your eyes shut to focus on the noise of displacing air as Jean teleported into the ladies washroom.

“Michael! You- wow, uh, that’s a good look on you.”

The suit. It did, you guessed. Jean looks somewhat gobsmacked before she takes a gander at the room below. “Ah, bother. I think that that girl’s been possessed. We shouldn’t use force directly on her unless we have to. Let’s go, it looks like no-one’s paying attention.” Without a word more, she pulls off her glasses, takes a running leap – and vaults the balcony, rolling at the bottom as she starts to make her way through the crowd swiftly.

You- hesitate, turning, taking the escalator nearby at a run. Not because you were worried about the demon, you tell yourself. You didn't want to get your new suit dirty.
>>
>>30940046

She reaches the stage before you, slipping past the thriving crowd to clamber up, stepping forwards –and vanishing from view. As you follow, the clashing music ringing in your ears-

The stage spreads before you as you stare down at it. High up in a box in an operatic theatre across a closed curtain, the noise filtering through of applause and a racket loud enough to wake the dead. Jean next to you, wincing as she stares at some of the individuals seated in the audience, holding her wand up. As you look down, you see you, too, have had your clothing changed to your magical girl outfit, corset, miniskirt, high boots and all. The second time you’ve worn it, and it’s already feeling far too comfortable for your liking.

“She’s already pulled some people in. - If they get too close to that possessed girl, they’ll be in danger of powering her up, and might get their desires turned into demons, too. Michael, can I rely on you to get the other people out while I go face the demon? Once you ferry everyone out, you can try and help me help her, ok?”

[ ] Ok. I’ll get them out as fast as I can. Don’t push yourself!
[ ] No way! If we face the demon together, we’ll defeat it that much faster and more people will be safer!

It feels like Jean is trying to sideline us to keep us from getting hurt or in her way, and I just see that backfiring massively.
>>
[x] Ok. I’ll get them out as fast as I can. Don’t push yourself!

“But… how? Do I just, carry them? I don’t think I can do that very fast…” You look around at the number of people, trying to estimate the number of trips, and figuring it’d take ages to pull them one by one, these blankly staring figures.

“-If in doubt, try figuring out how to use your magic. I’m sure you’ll manage it, somehow. Channel it through your implement gently, and you’ll do just fine. Trust me on that!”

Her words fill you with a quiet confidence and you nod to her as she jumps down from the box, ribbons swirling behind her as she leaps through the curtains.

-And when she’s gone, the doubts start crawling back. What happens if you mess up? What if things go wrong? You try to fight the worry as you head down, summoning the thin-bladed sword to your hand as you look over the dozen or so people around. Dare you risk using magic on them?

[X] There’s no way to get all of them out fast without some risks. [Magic]

Feeling a bit foolish, you lift your hand, aiming the sword at the nearest chap – trying to focus on… channelling this feeling through you, this strange tingle that you knew now to be the physical sensation of magic.

You gasp as the blade shines, as it flows through you, using it- using you as a conduit. A feeling as if electricity rustles through your veins, as if it was caressing you from within.

Not an unpleasant sensation at all. In fact, you could very well get used to this-

The man rises from his seat with a surprised cry, lifting swiftly into the air as you channel too much into it – surprised, you let the magic slip. The man tumbles again, only to bounce erratically up and down as you try to fine tune it, a difficulty not unlike trying to find the clutch point of a car. It’s… difficult, but at last you manage it, leaving you breathing heavily and him hovering before you. Strangely, it doesn’t seem to bother him now he is out of danger, and returns to staring at the stage. You can’t seem to move him sideways quite yet, as you bob the sword from side to side, trying to focus the direction – merely up and down. But as he floats across from where his struggles had started, an idea comes to you…
>>
>>30941709

About four or five minute later, you’d finished throwing each of the people out of the theatre towards the far inky black wall that seemed to be the exit – having to concentrate on each one after giving them a solid push took its own sweet time, but it was a lot faster than carrying them. With the last out your wiped your brow – you were definitely a bit more sweaty than the simple pushes would have tired you out by – but there was one more thing to try out. And with another little channel of magical energy, you find yourself lifting away from the ground, floating upwards slowly and then with more speed – and then down again, your stomach turning slightly in a loop as you – as you levitate. Free from the confines of the earth.

It’s… exhilarating.

[LIFT learned! Currently uses [Magic] stat! You can reverse gravity for something and control it to an extent while focusing on it! Training may allow you to have finer control or less concentration! Target number 10!]

-Playtime comes to a halt as you see a flash of light behind the curtains, and you leap – kicking off on a chair behind you, jumping with a huge bound towards it.

The music is even louder, here – almost deafeningly so. The curtain’s the final call, you’re sure – once you go in, it’ll be a big fight.

[ ] Charge in! We need to help out Jean!
[ ] Take it slow, sneak in! We need to assess what’s going on in there, maybe hit the opponent with a sneak attack or something!

The curtain’s a barrier, but not for long. As the music intensifies, you slash at it halfway up, cutting yourself entry into this cacophonous rapture. And freeze for a moment, your eyes taking in the scene.

Flashing lights from unseen sources, spotlights dancing over the stage in stereo strobes. They highlight the speakers at the side of the chamber – a score or more of large black boxes with mouths that scream obscenity into the air in pure noise, teeth bared and yelling incoherently. Cables that throb and pulse in time to the beat linking them all.

Above, in the background, a man without a face orchestrating the dance number below with clipboard and pen, his suit not differentiated from his skin.

And on the stage itself, the backing dancers that lack arms between all of them as they move sensuously about each other are merely a twisted backdrop to the tableaux of two in the center – the possessed girl, the demon – lacking eyes, nose, ears, the only feature there her lips that sing, her teeth that shine, her tongue that speaks the guttural words as she brandishes her guitar outwards, the tight bodysuit she wears unzipped in a dozen places. And she is pressing Jean towards herself head first as the magical girl struggles to get free – pressing the side of Jean’s head against the crotch of the suit. As Jean jerks her ear away you see the open section of the outfit there, see another teethed mouth chanting below, see the long tongue snaking out of it dripping with saliva as it caresses your ally’s ear once more, tugging her back again.

You can’t hear what Jean is screaming over the music.

"Listen to my song! Let me fill your head!"
TALYIYNAYA: DEMON OF VOICES.
"Listen to my song! Let me fill your heart!"

This may not be as easy as simply putting some bunnies to sleep, you consider, as you draw your sword back grimly.

[ ] Get Jean away from her! We can [Lift] her out! [Magic]

[6,4,4,5=25 two degrees of success!]

That tore it. Thoughts of defense or holding back vanished as you saw that- that thing lick out over Jean like that – without stopping, you kick off at objects as you go, soaring through the air as you rise in height. The demon turns to face you as you shadow over her, as you idly note each backing dancer with one feature each – one with eyes, one with nose, one set of ears move into a formation ahead of you. As she raises her guitar, blasting a chord out at you. You flinch, yet it’s not enough to stop you from plummeting down with a straight stab – barely defending herself, the blade pierces through the plastic with a crunch, the hilt crashing into the instrument, the instrument hitting your target with a thump that you feel more than you hear. It’s pinned to her for a moment as you yank Jean away from the stunned girl, kicking her back. In the strobing lights you can see the shock – for a moment the music stops as the dancers try to catch her. Without arms they merely are able to cushion her, steady as she steps back, catching on her feet.

You swing the blade up towards her on guard, dark blood staining your new sword. The second verse is screamed out at you, more unintelligible than ever, and you shrug it off, not listening. You can see the worry in those eyes displaced from her face, the sudden desperation that she sings with faltering voice, moment by moment in the flashes of illumination. As Jean shakes her head as if trying to shake loose a screw, speaking something like an insect’s voice lost in the drone of shrieking.
[ ] I’ve got her badly hurt. I can finish her. Go for the kill. [Fury]

[x] Jean needs to get back up on her feet, even if I can’t hear her. Then we can take all of them on. [Heart]

You keep your sword raised, the blade lighter than a feather as you pull your comrade to your feet. Something seems to click as you pull her up, and you focus once again that flow of magic. This time it’s a sensation of warmth, calming, centering. It flows from you to Jean, stiffening her back, eyes blinking frantically as she tilts her head again – hitting it gently for a moment.

Water – or something like it – in her ear, no doubt.

You speak- or try to, unable to even hear your own voice. She shouts back, looking from your blade to the injured demon. You raise your hand to tap at her ear, and she shakes her head, brushing it away. And reaches up, places her palm against your sword, pushing it slowly away from the demon to the side. Shaking her head again – as if denying, as if still having ear problems.

-That’s when the attack is launched on you. Too busy helping her out, you didn’t notice the speakers moving up around the two of you, and the blast of sound from all around is enough to ripple the air, to send you staggering to one knees in a fit of agony from the echoing cries. Your boots the same shade as the stadium floor.

Jean’s pointing at herself, then the possessed girl – holding herself up barely, weakening from moment to moment. But the chaotic song goes on.

[ ] Take out the speakers. They seem to be doing the most damage to the two of us. [Fury]

[ ] Take out the backing dancers. They’re supporting the girl, and if we take them out Jean would have a better chance to get in close. [Heart]

>>30945492
That's hot fury. Cold fury is essentially honed sociopathy mixed with and obsessive need to grind your enemies inst dust beneath your boot. If you've never felt it...have you ever fallen into "the zone" in sports or chess or any game or competition? That kind of calm headspace where you know exactly how to react to your opponents next move before they even know they're going to make it? Take that and mix it with a cold focus on winning at whatever the cost, whatever the collateral (but without unnecessary sacrifice) and you're basically their but for the murder bit.

That isn't a sloppy state of mind, it's hyper focused almost to the point of obsession, but it is rational within its confines and it is certainly coherent.

>>30945604

that not cold fury, that's a state of focus. you don't need to take it and mix it with a cold focus on winning no matter the cost, it's already all focus and no fury. You'd just be adding focus to focus. That isn't fury at all.

>>30945673
no, that's focus, not fury. tranquil fury does not exist. what you guys are talking about is focus.

[x] Take out the speakers. They seem to be doing the most damage to the two of us. [Fury]
[1,1,6,5=19 – Pass! 0 degrees of success]

Taking the initiative, you leap forwards – a burst of movement towards the mostly immobile speakers (how did they even move like that?!). Up close in the disco nightmare it was monstrous, overly large plastic lips crackling and moving across teeth that bit and snarled in that simple box. The tip slices forwards, stabbing up into the device – the creature? –as you jerk it sideways violently.

With a crackle of sparks the sound dies from it, and you pull your sword free. Not to be deterred the second speaker that you target bites down hard on the weapon, the sharp teeth catching, bending, snapping the weapon in no short order – the blast of sound in retaliation an agonising blow.

You stare stupidly at the hilt left in your hand as you come to your senses – and the magic surges again as you turn and draw and strike again the speaker suddenly so close behind you – a new sword forged through your magic, stabbing into the top part of it.

Two down. As this time you draw forth a larger blade, a two handed heavy weapon – you raise it overhead, swinging it down at the third one, trying to break open the casing. Yet even that is not enough to deal with the demonic underling and you abandon it momentarily to thrust a fourth blade into an awaiting mouth.

[FORGE learned! Currently uses [Fury] stat! You can forge new blades at will, though focus is required! Target number 18!]

>>30945738

Each blow lessened the crescendo of music, dimmed the outlying voices a fragment. You could hear it now, that transcendent tune drowned out by the other voices – faltering, struggling to be spoken still. But it was too slow, too slow – the noise was overpowering, maddening, making it difficult to concentrate, hard to think. Before you are half through with all of them, you stumble to take note of those that remain.

Two of the three dancers were down – dead or knocked out, you could not tell. These missing all their features, now, discarded dolls. And you see Jean with the demon possessed one in her grasp, ears and nose returned to her, the last dancer bouncing off her back as she grasps her wand tighter. Aiming not at the one in her grasp, nor the creature with only eyes gracing her face. This time she aims upwards, at the conductor above protected by glass.

Lights once again burst in a flare, cascading off the glass surrounding the form. It raises its hand, and sound counters again, striking you and Jean alike, the discordant chime of remaining speakers blazing through both of you.

With that last strike, you don’t think you’d be able to concentrate to attack much more than once more.

[ ] If Jean can’t pierce through the glass, you certainly can! Go straight for the conductor! [Magic/Fury]

[ ] The speakers are throwing Jean’s ability off – take those out and we’ll get back enough focus for her to finish off what she needs to do! [Fury]

[ ] –That voice. If only we could just hear it-! If I could just help her sing clearer! [Heart]

[ ] If we only get one more blow, we need to finish this decisively. Stop the song. Stop the singer. [Fury]

No. Focus for me at least is highly flexible interns of end goals. If I'm just focused its about efficiency and sometimes that means you compromise because the cost of total victory isn't worth paying. Focused fury changes that calculation because total victory, or the complete achievement of some goal isn't the best outcome, it's the only outcome. Which is entirely different for unfocused fury in witch case your just trying to cause someone pain and not really planing so much as reacting to the immediate situation to maintain or increase the amount of pain you're inflicting.

But this conversation has probably run its course so I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree.

>>
>>30945847
Actually, I see a spot where I can correct you.

You are literally describing focus when you talk about fury. Your idea of focus is incorrect. It is the opposite of highly flexible in terms of end goals. When you focus on a goal, a single goal, you try to achieve that goal no matter what, and you ignore all other factors, exactly what you said cold fury is like. It's all just focus. Having highly flexible end goals is actually being unfocused, as you aren't going for anything specific, just something general.

And fury, of course, has absolutely nothing to do with this. It's not a good emotion, and it really doesn't help in all but a few situations. The few situations where it does help are when it grants motivation, which leads to focus. However, even that is ruined if the person can't push aside their anger in favor of what they're trying to achieve.

Here's Flight Director Gene Kranz's speech after a fire killed 3 astronauts on January 27,1967. I think this is an example of the hypothetical "tranquil fury".

>"Spaceflight will never tolerate carelessness, incapacity, and neglect. Somewhere, somehow, we screwed up. It could have been in design, build, or test. Whatever it was, we should have caught it. We were too gung ho about the schedule and we locked out all of the problems we saw each day in our work. Every element of the program was in trouble and so were we. The simulators were not working, Mission Control was behind in virtually every area, and the flight and test procedures changed daily. Nothing we did had any shelf life. Not one of us stood up and said, 'Dammit, stop!' I don't know what Thompson's committee will find as the cause, but I know what I find. We are the cause! We were not ready! We did not do our job. We were rolling the dice, hoping that things would come together by launch day, when in our hearts we knew it would take a miracle. We were pushing the schedule and betting that the Cape would slip before we did. From this day forward, Flight Control will be known by two words: 'Tough' and 'Competent.' Tough means we are forever accountable for what we do or what we fail to do. We will never again compromise our responsibilities. Every time we walk into Mission Control we will know what we stand for. Competent means we will never take anything for granted. We will never be found short in our knowledge and in our skills. Mission Control will be perfect. When you leave this meeting today you will go to your office and the first thing you will do there is to write 'Tough and Competent' on your blackboards. It will never be erased. Each day when you enter the room these words will remind you of the price paid by Grissom, White, and Chaffee. These words are the price of admission to the ranks of Mission Control."

Apparently, he was so angry, that he didn't yell or scream. He wasn't even red in the face like most angry people.
>>
>>30948702
are you sure that was anger?
It's sounding more and more like sadness and regret to me, with a little frustration mixed in
even if it was this mystical 'tranquil fury' I don't see whats so good about it, aside from some guy giving an annoyed sounding speech about not messing up

it certainly doesn't seem to be the holy emotion that is the objective best yall make it out to be.
>>
Look tranquil fury is just you're really fucking angry but you act pretty calm. Super Saiyans by default tend to go into tranquil fury mode, for example, like when Gohan goes SS2 against Cell and you can tell he's fucking pissed off but he just shows it by being very calm and sadistic. Another example is Roy Mustang when he fights Lust and again when he fights Envy, yeah he's angry as all hell but the entire time he's pretty calm and collected.

Point it you don't have to be foaming at the mouth to be royally pissed off, some people go all "I'M GOING TO FUCKING KILL YOU!", others just quietly say "You die now." Then your face gets stoved in. It ain't the holy emotion to end all emotions, but some people like as a theme.

For example:

The whole film of Taken is a pretty good demonstration of mostly tranquil fury, actually.
>>
goddamn that's a lot of posts arguing about fury.
>>
>>30949909
My point, though, is that people do everything worse when they're that angry, whether they act calm or not. That's why it's a bad emotion to aspire to, and why people shouldn't like it as a theme.

>Righteous fury is bad!
Tell that to just about every leader that has inspired a population to action, ever.
>>
>>30953229
you guys keep making these implications while quoting my posts that aren't really what I said at all

Those are one of the few times anger helped out, and notice that when anger does help it isn't even direct. In this case it would just be a source of motivation. In addfition, while doing the actual inspiring, they couldn't be too angry, or they'd just seem like a lunatic.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure at this point we're mostly mincing words. You consider the state of mind we're terming "tranquil fury" to be associated with some other emotional state than anger, somehow. I'm just guessing you've never experienced any form of constructive anger and am moving on. Anyway, take care.
>>
>>30953473
What you're calling tranquil fury is just focus. There's already a term for it and it has nothing to do with fury. At best anger is a motivator to achieve focus, and there are much better motivators out there.
>>
>>30953664
Look, stop focusing so much on the word "Fury" as the be-all and end-all of the stat.

"Heart" doesn't mean "chunk of flesh that makes your blood circulate" solely, though that's the literal definition of what "Heart" is. Similar, instead of thinking of "Fury" as just being really angry, think of it as "Zeal" or "Passion" or "really really powerful Righteousness" or something.

Don't be so closed minded.

Having said that, Fury's not all it's cracked up to be.

>anger is a motivator to achieve focus!
Bingo, there you go. So it's about how we achieve focus. Is it through anger (Fury), compassion (Heart) or sheer force of will (Magic). It makes sense that anger is the easiest way for Michael to reach a start of focus given the sudden gendershift, life and death drama and the rest of the crap dumped on his shoulders. It also makes sense that he should have plenty of compassion for the Demon's victims/hostages, since they didn't ask for this are are powerless to escape on their own. And since his experience working with magic measures a little over 24 hours I'm not surprised he isn't very good at reaching a state of focus through willpower alone. These things will change overtime as his character develops and we spend demonic cores or whatever they're called to upgrade his stats, but for now I'm not surprised that anger is a prime motivator and I think it can be a very effective tool in our arsenal.

Ok. If you're using fury to represent zeal/passion, I understand where you're coming from. I just don't get why you can't say zeal/passion/focus instead of fury.

>>30954126
Ok, that's fine. Obviously this quest isn't real life, so anger here probably won't have the drawbacks anger in real life does. Some anons here were just under the impression that anger is objectively the best emotion anyone can have, and being the kind hearted soul that I am, I felt the need to educate them.
>>
I've always interpreted Heart as Passion. Fury is driven anger. Pure\Magic is cold focus. It's like your trying to lump all the good things into Fury.

Says the one trying to lump all the negative things into fury. All three are a mix of positives and negatives, stop trying to simplify things.
>>
>>30958951
he's not me, and I wasn't lumping all the negative things into fury, I was pointing out that it was deeply flawed.
>>
>>30958951
Driven isn't a negative and anger can help... but only sometimes and defaulting to it is a bad thing. Just like pure passion and pure logic are bad things in there lonesome.
