Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage, labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread, you bought a few things from the artificer at the academy, took on a job to rediscover a lost recipe, and acquired an AI bent on world domination as a traveling companion.

You awaken from your trance to the sound of running water and the rich smell of something cooking. You step off of your throne carefully, though the dusting of snow that covers the iced over bathroom floor leaves little chance of slipping. You warm your limbs with a bit of fire magic and then take a moment to inspect your handiwork.

The room is filled with thick steam which drips from the ceiling and coalesces on the walls now that you're no longer meditating. The pillars four pillars at each corner of the room are crowned with ornate decorations, waves crashing over the rocks and the water god Pani sitting in the center, all four arms spread in a welcoming embrace. The throne in the center of the room, which sits directly above the hot baths, is comparatively plain. A solemn block of ice carved into a seat.

The walls are decorated with familiar imagery. Creatures that roam Pidjata, mythological figures, stylized images of major events in your life. You recognize your master spraying you with water to wake you up in the morning your first day as an apprentice, your master summoning a wave to sweep you ashore while you sit in the sea meditating, the day you earned your Vatis robes. There are also more recent images, like your trial and banishment, exploring the ruins of Eshnuk, standing in the room the Core revealed to you in the Rhynian facility, and other minor carvings. It's almost a shame this will all melt away, though you suppose you're free to try this again later.

The chandelier hanging above the throne cast dancing lights all along the wall in front of it, the light coming from the lone source of illumination in the room; a small pane glass window on the back wall. Your clothes, you note, sit idly in the corner. You must have subconsciously moved them to make sure they didn't become trapped in the floor. You melt the armor you're wearing with a wave of your hand and guide the water it was made of back into the pool before getting dressed.

You make a few subtle alterations to make everything just a little nicer. Reinforce the chandelier, decorate the throne with the Hiacian signet in the center, a few minor touch-ups here and there where you must have lost your focus briefly. When it's as ready as it will ever be you push the bathroom door and make sure the steam billows out around you in an appropriately dramatic manner.

Chryssa and Fulvia are in the kitchen, both their heads turned towards you as you strut into the kitchen. Chryssa, you note, seems to be in the middle of cooking some sort of stew. It's very thick, and the broth is red. You can pick out onions, tomato, olives, and you think some sort of sliced sausage. It also smells distinctly of pepper and mint. She seemed right in the middle of stirring a generous helping of scrambled eggs into the soup when you made your entrance.

You break the somewhat awkward silence by proclaiming loudly to the room. “Come, come and lay eyes upon a true work of art!” You've adopted the somewhat airy, mystical tone your master always used when revealing what he considered to be some great mystery of the universe. “A master has slaved away for hours creating the room you're about to step into, and I won't even charge you for admission! Consider yourselves honored!” You drop the posturing, breaking out into a grin. “No, but seriously. Go check out what I turned the bath into. I'll go wake Rocky up.”

You leave the two of them to gawk and wander into the bedroom Profectus claimed. He's curled up tightly on his side in the center of the bed and snoring loudly. You lean over and plug his nose shut. It worked the first time you tried to wake him up and that was after a thousand years in a pod, it ought to do just as well after a night of hard drinking.
(1/2 or 3)
>>
He tosses and turns a few times before jolting awake with a gasp, taking a moment to catch his breath before whining at you. “C'mon, Mik-” He squints his eyes at you. “Mik...hail. Not... that's not okay, t'just plug someone's-” You interrupt him with a question. “Are you still drunk?” to which he responds with. “Pfft, no. Wasn't drunk in the first place. Don't know what you're talkin' about.”

He accompanies this with throwing off the covers and pulling himself out of bed, though he has to grip the bannister to stop himself from tipping over. Even despite that, he wobbles unsteadily on his feet. “See? Right as rain! Now c'mon, I smell breakfast cooking and I'd like t'cram some food in me 'fore the hangov-er... to start the morning off right!”

Well, you doubt he's going to be much use today. “Don't lie, Prof. I had to drag your ass out of a 'bathhouse'. You're lucky I paid your tab or that ugly old woman would've sold you into slavery. Now follow me! I need to show you something in the bathroom.” He sighs, rubbing his eyes. “Can't tell you how many times I've heard that... better not be what I think it is.”

You wave him off, and lead him into your impromptu throne room. Chryssa seems fascinated by the wall carvings, while Fulvia is admiring the way the light plays against the wall after being filtered through the chandelier. Profectus seems properly awed, even if he is cranky after such a rude awakening. You relegate yourself to standing proudly by the doorway until the room really starts to become structurally unsound, then usher them all out of the room so you can melt it without getting anyone wet.
(2/3)
>>
You start by turning off the four facets that feed the hot bath, then letting it drain a bit melting the rest. It's much easier to melt ice than it is to freeze water, and the room vanishes into a surge of water with a flick of your wrist. Fortunately the floor is sloped towards the bath so it will all drain away if you just give it time.

Profectus has slumped over the kitchen table, head held in his hands. You think he's dozed off again. Fulvia is preparing some sort of concoction in one of the wine cups that came with the two giant clay jugs of wine the academy had included with the room. It smells bitter, and you're pretty sure she just drained blood from the sausages into it. Chryssa meanwhile is finishing up whatever stew she's cooking and ask you a question as you take a seat. “So, why did you turn the bathroom into a throne room? Impressive it might have been, but rather impractical.”

“Well, I had an idea for meditation I wanted to try, and it actually worked out fantastically. It finally 'clicked' how to efficiently manipulate water. Normally I'd be running off to register for exams right now, but I'd have my head chopped off if I showed my face in El-Amin again.” Chryssa looks at you confused. “Could you try asking the academy? They seem the magical authority in this region.”

“Huh... hadn't thought of it. Usually this sort of things is handled by the Sultan directly. I suppose it might be worth a try though...”

Can we pick our thing at the market fast and then talk to Archmagos?
>>

People have tried, but fiddling with internal organs beyond just simple healing is tricky even for Grandmaster water vatis. If it is possible nobody has managed to get it right.

Talking to the Archmagos won't take long, you won't necessarily have to take the test if you talk with him. You certainly won't need to take it immediately.

As Chryssa partitions out whatever it is she's cooked for breakfast this morning into three bowls, you decide to see about how your new apprentice is getting along. “Any breakthroughs before you went to bed last night?” She shakes her head. “No, but I didn't destroy anything either.” Breaking even then, it seems. “Maybe sparring or working yourself to exhaustion would help you grasp how to channel. After all, necessity helped me learn.” Chryssa seems to think on this for a moment while she situates herself at the table. “That seems reasonable. Do you think the Academy has a training room?” You wave a hand dismissively. “Oh, certainly. So much of being a vatis relies on training the body as well as the mind. I can't imagine they wouldn't.”

While the two of you discussed training, Fulvia placed the cup of... whatever it is in front of Profectus. It's topped by a raw egg sprinkled with black pepper, and smells rather atrocious. He picks it up and kicks it back all in one go, clearly struggling to keep whatever it is down. “Treatment for the morning after a night of revelry.” Fulvia explains once she notices you looking on confused.

After that conversation dies off while everyone eats. The soup Chryssa prepared is rather delicious, savory and a tad too spicy for your taste but good nonetheless. After you've drained your bowl you stand up and stretch, rolling your shoulders and cracking your neck. “Alright, I'm going to go speak with Suresh about what sort of trials and restrictions he puts upon qualifying as a 'Master'. After that we'll go down to the market to pick up equipment and make a few purchases.”
(1/2 or 3)
>>
>>30936993

I think we should ask Chryssa if she's capable of combining the leather armour and technicians armour herself or if she thinks we'll need the aid of someone else.
>>
You're about to head for the door, Chryssa and Profectus following suit, when you remember the task you assigned Fulvia before you started meditating. “Oh! How far did you get on copying those books, Fulvia?” She responds promptly. “I cataloged both the scrolls you specified and finished the majority of the Treatise on Advanced Water Magic. I estimate it will only take a few more hours to complete.” You nod. “Great, I'll leave all that to you then.” She nods her head enthusiastically and sets about collecting bowls and cups from the plate.

The three of you set off, leaving Fulvia to clean up and finish copying the books. You might feel a little guilty about just leaving her behind, but she didn't seem to mind. The halls are fairly thick with students at this hour of the morning, you'd say its maybe three or four hours past dawn, but they clear a path for you and your companions. It isn't long before you're knocking on the door at the top of the winding staircase that leads to the Archmagos' chambers. It opens silently, a root slithering its way back into the ground as the three of you step inside. You hear the Archmagos speaking in a muted tone above you, though he doesn't call out. You and Profectus seat yourselves in the now familiar chairs that weave themselves from plant matter, while Chryssa stands to the side.

After a few minutes of waiting Suresh and a young man dressed in apprentice garb walk down the stairs. He seems to be giving the apprentice advice about more effectively controlling nature magic and some of the more esoteric uses for the discipline. The apprentice leaves shortly after and Suresh seats himself across from you. “Well! What can I do for you three this fine morning?”
(2/3)
>>
“Well, I recently had a breakthrough while meditating and I think I may finally be ready to wear the Master's robes. Usually, as I'm sure you know, a vatis goes to the Sultan and ask for a trial-” Suresh nods along. “-But that seems rather out of the question. I was wondering if the academy offered testing instead.”

The Archmagos smiles. “Of course! Though our testing isn't usually as strict as what you might find in Pidjata. I assume you're speaking of the water discipline?” You nod, and he continues. “Well, all you have to do to wear the robes is duel one of our faculty and perform well enough that the judges deem you worthy. Of course, winning automatically qualifies you. The only caveat is you can use only water and metamagic during the duel. No supplementary effects.” Well, at least you don't have to isolate yourself in the desert and survive for a week.

Perhaps we could tell him about the method? The meditation methods and Vatis experience things seem to be valuable, otherwise the books wouldn't be so expensive.

Also tell him that we want to branch into Nature magic and ask few tips and advice for the beginner.

Nature, he does the chair thing by himself.
>>
What do we need to get closer to being Grandmaster again? Is it insight from another Grandmaster?

We should really consider going to that water temple that we found out about via the letter from the mint.

Also how much trouble are we going to get in from using the... golden sphere to record images of books that we just look at while in the library?
>>
Guys, remember to take Fulvia with us when we go to the market. We need to get her some weapons and commission a high quality armor.

not really shes a robot.. some decent armor and a weapon from our current stock would work fine.
remember she can cast fire and metal magic.
so she can defend her metal body by reinforcing it.. or just shit tier armor and reinforce it with metal magic during fights.
she will be used as our back pack and sentry which is nice. since we can sleep so long as she does not murder us in our sleep she will be a valuable companion.

“If that's the case, I think I'd like to schedule the duel sometime in the next few days. I mean, whenever is convenient. I don't want to impose.” The archmagos rubs his chin contemplatively. “Well, I'll need to get the panel of judges together, and select the person you'll duel. How long do you intend to stay in town?” You shrug your shoulders. “Well, I do have obligations calling me elsewhere, but I intend to stay at least two more days so I can return a few of the things I bought from the library. Helpful though they've been, that partial refund is too good to pass up.”

He nods his head sympathetically. “I understand completely. How about noon on the day after tomorrow then? That way you can get all your business in town wrapped up on the same day.” You agree that sounds just fine, and then switch the topic over to something a little less official.

“You know Suresh, I'd kick myself if I didn't at least ask. What elements are you best with?” He grins. “Well, I'm something of a slacker truth be known. I'm a grandmaster in the nature discipline but most of my studies have been on metamagic and supplementary effects. My next best element is water at expert rank, and then I consider myself competent with earth and metal.”

Huh, for a man who looks to be in his eighties you'd expect him to have at least mastered one other element. “Any tips for someone looking to begin studying nature magic?” The Archmagos nods vigorously. “Absolutely, and I really can't say this enough. Nature is the magic of all living things, not simply plants. Animals, insects, the various peoples of the world all fall within the nature discipline. If you'll excuse the play on words, make sure to branch out early on.” Wow, that's a terrible pun. Profectus still laughed at it though.

You thank Suresh for his time and the both of you stand, bowing to one another before he escorts you out of his office. Once the door is closed behind you Chryssa speaks up. “Where are we doing next?” To which you respond. “The marketplace. I need to pick up the spear I commissioned and you need to pick up your armor. Speaking of, do you think you'll need help incorporating it into your technician's armor, or will you be able to manage that yourself?” She cocks her head to the side contemplatively. “Well, I'll need to see it first. For all I know it's as simple as cutting holes for the Rhynian suit's plates and panels and sowing the whole thing together.”

Somehow you doubt it will be that simple, but who knows. You return briefly to you rooms to grab Fulvia, since she mentioned being able to wield weapons and wear armor, then the four of you traverse the grand main entrance hall and exit into the somewhat chill morning air.

A wall of dark clouds sits on the horizon and a strong wind blows in from the Great Sea. It spells a storm in the making if you've ever seen one. Still, right now the sky above is clear and the day pleasant. Besides, not like you planned on setting out to sea anytime in the near future. You untie Al Gasreed from the post in front of the slop trough and mount up, Profectus climbing on behind you. Fulvia climbs on to Chryssa's guar. You note that at first she seems to be partially inside the animal, but the projection shifts to appear more convincing.

The gates open for your party and the four of you navigate to the side gate you used to get into the Upper Quarter last time. The guards there are the same two who let you in, and they greet you with a nod. Hopefully you won't be hassled on your way back to the Academy this time.

Where will you head first?

The ride to the marketplace is rather peaceful, though your little party must cut quite the picture. A horned woman, an elf with a stone arm, a woman who seems only half real, and a dark elf decked out like the richest of ancient generals. People afford you plenty of room as you maneuver the streets, though that may partially be due to the hour. Most people, you imagine, have work to do and people to see.

Profects speaks up on the ride down. “You know, you're rich and everything. Why not buy a damn carriage and have the guar pull it? We could ride in style!” Chryssa calls out over the din of the milling crowd around you. “We might as well travel the countryside holding giant signs saying 'Please rob us, we're rich!'. It would be better to just get you two mounts.” Well, it's something to think on. This current configuration is simply untenable.

You reach the marketplace fairly quickly and navigate your way through the cramped stalls and crowded byways until you see the blacksmith's workshop where you commissioned your spear. The old elven smith you remember is sitting in front of the shop at an anvil, hammering out the rough shape of a chest piece. He sees you approaching and stands up straight, dragging his arm across his brow and smiling a slightly snaggletoothed smile at the four of you.

“More than I remember visitin' last time! Here to pick up your spear?” You nod, and dismount your guar. Your companions opt to stay with the animals while you go inside. “Sure am!” He leads you inside, past the walls full of old pockmarked swords, cracked spears, and beast's skulls to the front desk. He vanishes into the back room for a moment before returning with a thing of beauty in his hands.

(You'll have to excuse the rather crappy reference, surprisingly little spear art to be found.)

The entire thing is made of good steel, the shaft wrapped in leather for one long stretch to ensure the wielder's grip doesn't slip. You can see the entire length is carved with intricate designs, mostly geometric patterns but you note a few distinctly mystical symbols carved into the speartip. You're not entirely familiar with the art of smithing, let alone what it takes to attune a weapon to spells, but it certainly looks convincing.

Just below the speartip two long protrusions jut out on either side, and they're joined by two similar curving protrusions at the base of the speartip itself. It reminds you in many ways of a ranseur, although more suited to trapping a weapon than just blocking it. He passes it to you and you take it with some amount of reverence, looking the entire thing over and testing its weight in your hands. Channeling a little bit of vys into the weapon causes the entire thing to glow strongly with some internal light, though it quickly fades away.

“So, what do you think?” The smith ask you. “It's great! Exactly as I asked.” You start counting out the ten gold you owe the elf, and he takes the money without complaint. “Well if you need anything else, anything at all, feel free to stop buy and ask. I'd be happy to work another commission for you if y'need it.

If we go around getting armor for fulvia we should seek a proper armor smith and not buy armor from that leather worker. We will also learn if armor can be similarly etched like weapons can.

...Or we could ask Fulvia what she likes better of course.

You hold up a finger in a gesture for patience while you go outside and call for Fulvia. She dismounts Chryssa's guar and enters the shop, taking a look around at the items on the wall and the smith himself. “Would you mind if my friend here took a look at what you have in stock? I've been meaning to get her a weapon.” He shakes his head. “Nope, don't mind at all.” He turns and leads you into the back room he retrieved your spear from. Weapons stand on proud display, lined up on what seem to be dozens of racks and shelves. Fulvia heads further in to look around while you turn to the smith.

“So, I acquired a blade recently and I'd like an expert opinion.” You withdraw the stout ivory statuette from your sleeve. It's carved in the image of a snake, the trigger to activate the blade disguised as the statue's head. You press down and the handle opens up, the black metallic blade extending to its full length of a little over two feet. You pass it to him handle first, and he begins inspecting it with a careful eye.

“Do you think you could attune this weapon to spells, or anything of the sort?” After a few minutes of silence he presses the snake head and the blade folds up on itself. “Well... I don't rightly know. Where did you get this blade?” You allude vaguely to buying it on a whim from a merchant, and explain that it's an ancient Elaudian relic. The smith nods once more. “Well, I've never seen anything like it before. Blades shouldn't rightly be able to fold up like that without compromising the structural integrity, y'see. Plus I don't know of any black metals, and I've been at this for sixty years. Do you mind if I test it a bit? Bash it around, heat it up, that sort of thing?”

You shrug your shoulders. “I don't see why not. As long as I get a discount if you break the thing.” He laughs. “If I break it, I'll fix it free of charge and include whatever sort of upgrades you wanted to boot.” That seems a fair deal. You follow him out into the main room of his shop, leaving Fulvia to pick out her weapon. He grabs a hammer and sits down at an anvil in the corner.

First he extends and contracts the blade, making sure the mechanism functions reliably. Then, with the blade extended, he gives it a few gentle taps with the hammer. The repeats the process with the blade contracted, tapping the handle with the hammer. This turns into a pattern, the 'tapping' progressing into proper striking. You actually feel him start to channel vys into the blows he rains down on the blade, but it neither bends, chips, breaks, or cracks. The extension from and contraction into the handle as smooth as ever.

He eventually seems to decide that's enough, whatever the sword is made of isn't breaking anytime soon. Fulvia has picked out a weapon of some sort, a gladius that you're pretty sure has been carved to channel spells more efficiently, and is standing next to you watching. “Well... gotta say they built this thing to last. Suppose that's what I should expect from something a thousand years old.” He comments while opening the shutters of a furnace next to him. Once he's stoked the coal inside to a bright white glow he shoves the sword with blade extended inside.

After a half hour he pulls the blade out, and picks up the hammer again. Before he brings it down he pauses, and touches his fingers to the blade with a confused expression. “Gods above, the thing isn't even warm!” He presses the mechanism down, the blade sliding into the handle noiselessly. He looks disappointed you note. “Unless you've got some trick up your sleeve I can't work with whatever metal that thing is made of. I've not a clue how they worked it in the first place.”

You sigh. “Well, thanks for the help anyway. Suppose it's nice to know that the sword won't be breaking anytime soon.” You gesture towards the gladius Fulvia picked out. “How much for the sword?” He squints at it for a moment, before snapping his fingers. “Ah! That one. You can have it for thirty gold. Normally I'd charge more, but I ended up smelting down that silver ore and making a small fortune selling ornamental weapons to those rich folk in the Upper Quarter. Would've made a fraction of what I did hadn't I had that silver stocked already.”

Well, thirty gold is reasonable but cheaper is always better. “How about twenty gold? I'll probably end up stopping by again sometime soon after all.” He shoots back immediately with. “Twenty gold is just too low! Twenty eight, at least.” And so the dance begins. You get the feeling he's sort of phoning the negotiations in, and before long you've settled on twenty five gold, which is probably the price he was expecting all along anyway. Money changes hands and he includes the sword's sheath for free.

You step outside, and you notice that the projection Fulvia puts up is wearing a belt now, and the sword is attached to her 'hip' even though she doesn't properly have hips. In fact, she doesn't have a belt to attach it to either. How the hell is it staying put? Before you can open your mouth to ask Fulvia answers. “Magic, Mikhael. Metal magic.” You shrug your shoulders. You've seen weirder things after all.

The three of you set off towards the tannery on the shoreline. It was located well away from the marketplace proper, probably so the smell of rotting intestines doesn't pervade everything and stink the joint up. You've no clue why someone would want to go into the business of tanning hides.

When you get there, the same old samja woman that harassed you last time is snoozing in her rocking chair out front. The place smells awful as usual, though Profectus seems strangely unaffected. Fulvia, of course, can't actually smell anything. Chryssa is also just as stoic as ever. Perhaps you're the only one that gets grossed out by the smell of a tannery after all? Regardless, you and Chryssa dismount and make your way up to the front door.

You knock, and it isn't long before the door is jerked open by the same young man that you met last time. “Here to pick up your armor?” He ask, to which you nod. He pushes the door open a bit wider and leads you inside. You take a look at the various saddles and items he has on display while he goes into a backroom, presumably to fetch the armor.

He returns with a suit of armor tailored to suit Chryssa. It looks like it was mostly made by one long strip of leather, with an insulating layer of some sort of thick, downy fur and metal plates covered by additional strips of leather over the torso, forearms, thighs, knees, shins, et cetera. It all looks rather sturdy, frankly, and he goes on to display the hidey holes sewn throughout. Places perfect for Chryssa to store her daggers or any other small items she'd like to smuggle into a place.

Chryssa steps forward and inspects it, grabbing hold and flexing it in a few places and especially testing out the metal. After a while she turns to you and nods. “This is suitable for my needs. However, I would not be able to incorporate the technician's armor into this.” The tanner looks confused. “Technician's armor?” Chryssa proceeds to withdraw the folded bundle from her bag and show it to the man, pointing out the pads on the shoulder, and the panel on the forearm.

“Well, I could probably stitch this in under the insulating layer pretty easily, give or take an hour, but it'll cost a little extra. I'd say two gold would be a fair fee.”

Two gold? That's only thirty silver. The breath you spent haggling would probably be more valuable than that.

Well, two gold is the kind of money you'd toss into a beggar's cup... if you ever payed any attention to beggars, that is. You pass him the money without complaint and he stuffs it in his pocket with a smile. “We'll go finish up the rest of our shopping for the day while you work, we should be back in an hour or two.” He nods, and Chryssa hands him the technician's armor. You'd be a little wary of handing over a priceless artifact to some young'un probably just out of adolescence, but he barely seems to know what it is so you're not worried.

The two of you head out, to find Fulvia and Profectus having a rather deep conversation about how one should go about restoring the Rhynian empire. Fulvia seems to believe in the 'Hearts and Minds' approach. Really harp that the people belong under the Rhynian banner and the restoration of the empire will bring about an age of piece and prosperity. Profectus takes a more realistic approach, that any sort of attempt would need to grind resistance under its booted heel.

Well, at least Fulvia doesn't want to wipe out all organic life. That's something of a relief. You and Chryssa mount up and then start navigating through the marketplace. It's damn near impossible to pick out specifics in the crowd of bright colors and flamboyantly dressed merchants, so you try to pick out someone harking guar or livestock by ear instead.

(1/2, or 3)
>>
Eventually you hear somebody shouting about guar, and you turn Al Gasreed in the direction of his voice. It takes some maneuvering, but at the edge of the marketplace you find a large, wide-open stable full of a dozen or so guar. You're somewhat surprised to find this in the middle of the city, one would think they'd try to keep them more compact. The man harking them is a tan skinned human wearing a hat languidly flopped over to the side, his hands cupped around his mouth to attract customers like you. There are a few small children feeding the guar oats from their palm, while mothers watch on with no small amount of anxiety.

He sees you approaching and drops his hands from around his mouth, bowing to you gratefully. “Ah! I see you've two fine animals, yet four riders! Here to buy guar, yes?” His Vulgar Rhynian is heavily accented, but understandable enough. “Yes, we need two guar. You'll have to ask my companions what they're looking for.” Both Profectus and Fulvia look to you confused. Profectus speaks up. “Ask me? I don't know a thing about guar!” Fulvia nods in agreement.

Looks like you'll be doing the picking for them.

You point to five guar in particular that catch your interest. They seem to be the strongest of the bunch, judging by the thickness and length of their tails. The merchant brings them out and allows you to inspect them up close. You dismiss one because it's clearly too old. You also ask Chryssa how one is supposed to tell male guar from female guar, to which she responds that males have longer talons on their feet. Thus, you dismiss two females as well. You're left with two young, strong, males.

“Very good choices, my friend! Now, that will be six hundred silver for the two of them!” You recall what Chryssa told you, that even the strongest, fastest, youngest prize winning guar should only go for two hundred silver. This guy is trying to sell you these for three hundred each. Clearly he's trying to scam you here.

Since this man appears about as charismatic as a snake, you feel pretty confident you'll win this argument. “Six hundred silver? Six hundred silver?! Do you think I don't know the value of a guar? These animals couldn't be worth more than four hundred total! How dare you try to scam Mikhael Abdul-Hakim!” You really play up the role of an angry customer, and the fact you literally tower over this man helps somewhat. To get in his face you'd have to crouch down.

The man holds up his hands in mock surrender. “Alright, alright! I apologize for my misstep, I clearly overvalued these guar! These are fine guar though! I'll sell them to you for four hundre-” You cut him off there. “No! I demand recompense for the insult you have paid me! In my homeland, such blatant theft would be punished by removing the hand of the offender!” That's something of a lie, only those too poor to pay recompense for whatever they 'stole' and unwilling to subject themselves to indentured servitude actually get their hands removed. He doesn't know that though.

The man is starting to get nervous. “W-well sir I'm a-afraid th-this” he seems to find his spine again. “This isn't your homeland! We don't chop off the hands of an honest trader in civilized society!” Well that just opens up another line of whining. “Civilized society? Now you say my people aren't civilized! Unbelievable you would deliver such an insult to a customer!” You cast a minor spell to have a little fire flare up around your hands, burning its way up your forearms though not actually burning your skin. That seems to cow the man. “Alright, alright! Take the damn guar! A hundred silver each!”

You barely manage to contain the shit eating grin you want to give him long enough for money to change hands and Fulvia and Profectus to mount up on their newly bought guar. After it's all said and done you bow to him elaborately, which brings you down to about head height with the man, and smile beneficently. “My eternal gratitude, fair trader.”

You've mounted your guar and ridden off before he can start cursing your name. Where to next?

You start looking around for an armorer, now that all four of you are mounted. If you could get Fulvia and Profectus in some decent armor you'd probably be quite the intimidating party of adventurers. Then again, if what you've seen so far proves to be the norm, adventurers only come in two categories. Stupid and overly optimistic beginners, and intimidating veterans wielding mysterious artifacts. You can't recall ever seeing a middle ground between those two amongst the men and women trying to plunder that old Rhynian facility.

It takes some looking around, but eventually you find a workshop off the marketplace proper. It's a large facility, you see three big stone drums sticking out of the roof that you assume to be the furnaces. Apprentice armorers are laboring away in the courtyard of the workshop, crafting armor or doing minor repair work. As you dismount and tie up your guar to post you don't see anyone who stands out as a 'master armorer' or anything of the sort, but as you head for the door an older man with a singed white beard and bald head sits up from a stool towards the back of the yard, approaching you.

As he closes to speaking distance he waves in a jovial enough manner. “What can I do for you, big'un and pals?”

You wave a hand in the general direction of Profectus and Fulvia. “We're here for them, I'm just the bank.” You look to the two of them. “Get whatever catches your eye, just don't pick something that cost hundreds of gold. I'd like to have some money left after we leave, after all.” Fulvia nods politely, though Profectus seems giddy like a school girl. He immediately ask if they have any artifact armors, and the man nods his head once, leading Profectus away. Fulvia hesitantly follows.

While you and Chryssa wait, she strikes up a conversation. “When we get back the academy, would you mind sparring with me?” To which you respond with. “Well... are you sure that's safe? I mean, you're rather ridiculously strong. Don't want to go getting anything broken, even if I could heal it.” She nods her head. “While it is true I am stronger than the average human, or samja, I am perfectly in control of my strength.” She tacks on shortly afterwards. “Besides, you could use some training in close quarters.”

You act mock-offended. “Are you insinuating I can't handle my spear? I'll have you know I trained for years, often two or three times a day, in the arts of spear handling. I consider myself more than just competent in its use!” She shakes her head. “No, no. Your spear handling is fine. Much better than mine in fact.” Damn, doesn't look like she caught the joke there, or she did and is ignoring it. You still can't quite tell with her. “I mean more in general. Hand to hand, knives, swords, and also your stamina and power. You seem rather lacking in both.”
(1/3 or 4)
>>
Okay, you really can't tell if she's fucking with you right now. “Well excuse me, unlocking the secrets of the universe doesn't leave one time to jog every morning and train with all manner of weaponry.” She shrugs her shoulders. “There is no shame in it, after all if I could not kill you with my first attack, however confident I may be that I could, you would almost certainly win in a fair fight. Think of it this way, I will train you in combat in exchange for training in magic.

It's about that time that Profectus comes back, or well, you think it's Profectus. He's in armor that covers his face completely, the only hint it's actually him in there is the poofy white leg portions of the one piece he was wearing when he spilled out of that pod.

Your suspicions are confirmed when he reaches up and slides the visor up, revealing his grinning face. “What do you think, eh? I mean, I'd have to rip off one of the arms to use my ability, but pretty neat! It's Optio Armor!” You stare at him uncomprehendingly until he explains. “An Optio was a military rank, they were basically the Centurion's lackey. Did paperwork, wrote letters, micromanaged the tent group. That sort of thing. It has a few of the same benefits Centurion armor does but it's way more common, because all the legions were supplied Optio Armor. Only the legions guarding Rhynia got supplied Centurion Armor.”

You nod along until he wraps up his little history lesson. “Fascinating, and how much is it?” He rubs the back of his neck as much as he can in the heavy armor. “Well, uh... only eight hundred silver!”

>Fine, you can negotiate that down to a reasonable price. He can have the fancy armor.

Metal magic is probably the hardest school of magic to learn in this time period, because the world is so much less industrialized than it used to be. Books exist on metal magic. There is a 'Beginner's Guide to the Elements: Metal Edition' for those just starting off. Other than that it's pretty limited to ancient treatises on the subject.

Intuition tells you that the Elaudians were probably skilled in the discipline of metal, since you can't imagine any other way to manipulate Elaudian Steel.

You sigh and act annoyed, though really you don't mind at all. “You're just going to bleed my coffers dry, aren't you? You'll be owing me money for a long time, friend. At least until the next big pay off.” He grins. “Oh yeah, sure. I'm good for it. You can trust me. I'm a perfectly legitimate, morally upstanding, gentleman. I would never dream of skipping out on a debt owed to a friend.” Before you can retort Chryssa speaks up. “That was dripping with so much sarcasm even I could hear it, and I consider myself blind to such subtlety.”

He laughs, and slams the visor back down over his face. His voice comes booming forth much louder than it has any right to be, especially considering it should be muffled by the helmet. “SO I CAN GET THE ARMOR?” An apprentice who was doing the fine details on some sort of ornate cuirass stumbles, swearing under his breath. “Yes, Profectus. You can get the armor. Just don't shout and cause the entire workshop to screw up their pet projects.” He nods, and slides the visor up once more.

It isn't long after that Fulvia returns from the back room, the owner of the workshop in tow. She's wearing what you can best describe as voluminous, layered robes with a cuirass of interlocking metal plates and a large hood. It, you suppose, means she doesn't have to waste nearly as much energy projecting an image of herself as a human woman. It doesn't look just terribly protective though. “Can you really call that armor? I mean, we could buy that at a tailor's shop.” She smiles, and peels back the layers of the cloth. Beneath each layer is a different armor, first interlocking plates on top, then lamellar hidden beneath that, and finally chainmail at the lowest level. “Yes, this is quite sufficient for my protection. It was listed at four hundred silver, however I believe you could negotiate it down to under three hundred with proper cajoling.”

“Well, to start off with. How about two hundred for that layered armor? I trust my friend's advice.” He motions for you to slow down. “Woah, woah, woah there friend. She said under three hundred. Not under two. Lets start at three fifty and move from there.” You sigh. Looks like he's going to make you go through the whole rigamarole. He's not even that entertaining to haggle with. It's down right formulaic. You end up agreeing to two hundred seventy five silver and moving on to the next item.

“Now then, the Optio armor. I think eight hundred is way overpriced.” The armorer nods. “I agree, that's why I'm charging eight hundred for it. Runnin' this place ain't cheap, y'know.” You appraise the armor for a moment. “I'll give you five hundred for it.” He cocks an eyebrow. “Oh come now, that can't be a serious offer.” You fold your arms in front of yourself. “It's absolutely a serious offer!” He sighs deeply. “Seven hundred fifty, come on now.” You slump forward in disappointment. “This again? We're just going to end up meeting in the middle. How about five hundred, and I'll give you the Rhynian Armor Profectus was wearing.” He nods his head firmly. “Deal.”

Huh... well that was easy. You hand him 51 gold and ten silver, which he tucks away in his robes before hobbling off to sit back down in his chair.

>Pic is the closest I could find for the image in my head. Prone to change at some later date.
You decide to head back to the Academy. After all, you've been shopping for quite a while by this point, and you'd like to get some training in before the day is out. Not to mention all the reading you still have to do. The Five Effects is a massive tome, the kind of book one might use to club a man to death. You exit the armorer's shop and the four of you mount up on your guar. Then it's off to the tannery to pick up Chryssa's armor. The armor actually turned out really well, much better than you expected in fact. The Technician's Armor really tied the suit of reinforced leather together. Chryssa admires it for a moment before laying it neatly over the back of her guar. You pay the man the hundred silver you owe him, and once more set out, this time it's finally back to the Academy.

You return through the same gate you left, mainly due to the strong desire not to have the guards hassle you. They seem to stiffen up as you approach, but relax when they figure out who it is. They wave you off when you pull out your pass and open the gates to allow you inside. The guards at the Academy gates are similarly lax, simply waving you through without asking any questions. It's nice to be recognized, in a way. Still, adventure calls. You'll need to think about leaving soon now that you've got the items you ordered.

The four of you dismount your guar at the front door, a young apprentice hustling to tie your guar up at the feeding trough while the four of you enter the Academy main hall. You have a few options now that you're back.

Here's an interesting thought to consider later down the line.

What do you guys think about asking Chryssa how she feels about having her bow modded???

Could be to help her channel Vys for when she fully develops her abilities or just for other purposes.

Also trick arrows could be cool, though I guess Vys could negate that by enabling fire/exploding/etc arrows.

Anyway.

Maybe, or just flat raft of ice and tread water with tentacle appendages.
>>
Guys if you have any good pics that match the setting, possible locations, weapons, the MC, races, armors, creatures, and the like this is a wonderful opportunity to dump them for Soma

I believe this picture was the reference I used for Vatis robes. Generally Vatis robes are red. Master robes are gold with red trim. Grandmaster robes are purple with gold trim.

At all levels, robes are typically made of silk and decorated with things like pearls, polished obsidian, opals, that sorta thing.

We should go to the beach and construct just a massive ice fortress, and then have little kids playing on the beach man the walls and throw snowballs at other kids.
>>
>>30946161
Or do it in the desert and keep it from melting for a day or two.
>>
>>30946219

This is a good one. I assume the water temple will give us a fair few tips too.

This dude's right. I'm always looking for pictures. My quest folder can never grow too large.

What's the consensus on maybe having a second watersking on hand for battle purposes?

We're already a Master with water so I assume we can exploit our surroundings but if for whatever reason we're in a dry place and don't want to risk our drinking water?

Inventory clogging... We have packmule Fulvia now though.
>>
Don't ask me for artwork because I'll dump my entire Elder Scrolls folder.
>>
>>30946289
Yeah but we carry a giant ass gourd with water in it.
Just like my Asian cartoons
>>

There is always water in the air to use.

Can anyone think of anything else we might need for the Red Jewel/Isle of Elda mission?

Possibly raid the library for maps of the surrounding area/maps of Chiron/maps of Isle of Elda.

So what's it gonna take to get a look at the "good" boots from the Artificer? Heaps of gold? Grandmaster? A blowjob?
>>
>>30946719
I figured once we get him the recipe for that steel, we could probably pester him into letting us see the other things.
>>
I was really hoping the Ring would be something better than what it is, cause it's kinda pointless for us.

Maybe when we do get it we can get him to show us the other three and pick which one we want?
>>
>>30946871
>A ring that leads to whatever the heart desires
It is literally Jack Sparrow's compass in the form of a ring.
>>
>>30946951

More like the Clairvoyance spell from the Elder Scrolls games.

Butt yeah it's useful for pretty much any quest where we need to navigate around a place.

>>

Duhhh, we just give it to Fulvia and order her to want whatever it is we're looking for.

Since people were posting possible character references last thread, I have offerings.

First, because someone mentioned we seemed like a young Vivec. An actual young Vivec.

Second, because I think it fits with the whole dark skinned, dark haired vibe so far. Another pic.

Kind of a shame it's so hard to find good dark elf art that isn't dunmer.

Her greatest desire is to restart the Rhynian Empire.

So we definitely shouldn't give it ot her.
>>
>>30947263
Is that her greatest desire, or is that what protocol dictates?
>>
>>30947263
>Leads to some super weapon
>Wipes out entire kingdoms
>She is forced to build an empire on the ashes of the world.
I feel like this ring will end up as some sort of monkey's paw situation.
>>
could we lash some barrels to a cart's wheels, fill them half full of water, then do the locomotion? might be tiring, but we'd never run out even in the desert. Plus you know... chicks dig cars.
>>
>>30947288
...Probably possible? Might not be all that much faster than just using guar to draw the cart.
I'd make you roll for it.
>>
>>30947282
Both
>>
>>30947466
So what do we meditate on next?

I vote Nature cause we have the Archmagos here to ask questions of.
>>
>>30947532
I vote fire since we already have some experience with it.
>>
>>30947532
I vote fire, personally. We learned all those great meditation methods from the journal and the ritual book.
Like self-immolation.
>>
It'd be nice to become more compotent in both. Considering Fulvia can use fire magic do you think there's anything we can learn from her?
>>
>>30947552
>>30947555
But we can do Fire anywhere anytime.

We can learn Nature faster here since we can ask Suresh for tips in between study sessions.
>>
>>30947584
How about we ask Suresh to give us some methods for meditation that he used, and then we can learn Nature magic at our leisure?
>>
>>30947627
We should do this. But having him on hand will be a benefit for solving any troubles we come across.
>>
>>30947660

This, I feel Soma will give us bonuses.

Also, we should socialise with Suresh before we leave.

We keep saying we will but don't. We're going to be away for a while, might as well solidify this friendship with some good hangouts.

I wonder if there's any strategy game that's common for Vatis to play (chess, go, some thing along those lines).

ALSO, once we get to Grandmaster level (or even now) we should ask to have Vys-duels/sparring with Suresh to train.

I think he'd enjoy it.
>>
>>30947758
Pebbles.
>>
>>30947867

Yeahh I wasn't sure if I was getting this confused with Shadow Quest because that had/has a game in it called Stones that is alluded to being chess-esque.

Stones is mancala.

How come his armor looks cooler than ours despite being for a lower rank?
>>
>>30948149

Also does this armour constantly change size to accomodate his ridiculous arm. How does he even use his arm when wearing this armour?
>>

why didn't we check to see if the armorer had artifact boots?
>>
>>30949374
It wasn't among the items he showed. And he was only going to let us look at one of the good things and we choose the ring.
>>
>>30949444
You misunderstand. I'm not talking about the Artificier but the armory shop we just visited where we bought armor for Prof abs Fulvia.
They might have had artifact boots.

>>30949560
maybe.

We can come back later after we've made all necessary purchases.
