You are Michelle St. Claire, and today is your first day on the job.

Fuck. Today’s the first day of being shot at. Maybe.

Double fuck. Life was easier in the Middle East where the ROE was “anyone nearby.”

You rub your temples. You only got discharged because that bullshit doctor who had a vendetta against you because you fucked his husband - uh, hello, there wasn’t a ring and he came onto YOU. How the fuck were you supposed to know he was married and, oh right, gay as fuck? That boner sure wasn't lying.

Whatever. You sigh and slump back into your chair and massage your….

>Arm, you were riding lead and your vehicle was taken by an IED. Your arm’s never been the same...even after it got chopped off and replaced. The surgeon’s advice was “deal with it.”

>Head. You were on guard duty and someone thought it’d be hilarious to drill a 7.62x54r into your thinkin’ cap. Your helmet stopped the bullet and prevented you from turning into grape jelly. Instead you just came home with headaches.

>Knee. Do you know what EFPs do to armor? Shit yeah you do because your tank was blown apart. Admittedly, you blacked out after the concussion wave hit you, but you have it on good authority (the photos and scar to prove it) that you had some of your vehicle mate vigorously with your leg.

>Back. Charlie in the tree launched a RPG. Good news - it was a dud. RPG-2 replicas have that reputation. Bad news - it was still moving fast enough to put your spine and nerves in places they don’t usually go. The medics and first line surgeons managed to put all the pieces back where they go, but it’s never been the same.

I appreciate you took the time to post, but I would appreciate it more if there was a vote attached too.

Head, also we have a large, permanent knot on our forehead, like freakish large.
>>
>>30927677
Back! Because back massages are totally a motivating character trait.

Also, all this stuff is explosive enough we should, like, totally choose two.

Realvote tho: Arms. Because cyberlimbs.

Another of these, seriously?

More blood, more guts.

Or did you mean quests?

As soon as it isn't a three way tie, anyways.

I'll leave the polls open until 2:30 server time. If it remains a tie, I guess I'll roll a die.

Here's your dice. I voted already, and it'd be dishonorable

Shit that's some advanced medtech to not be paralyzed.

Urge to link 'back to the front' rising now. Fitting and a pun.

I'm a fucking moron. There are 2 votes for Head.

I can't count because, I too apparently, have a head injury.

I'm going to take a piss then this train is leaving the station.

And after all of that, she was medically discharged, not for the several egregious injuries sustained in battle, but for banging a fagot doctors boyfriend. Thus is life in the military.

better a medical discharge than a dishonorable one.

The claws….yeah, you’ve got claws. You didn’t know it at the time, but a new augmetic arm from a SBIR contract had entered phase 3 and that meant live tests. You have to admit, compared to what you could’ve gotten this arm feels great. Hardly any loss of sensation, the strength scales well and, oh yeah, YOU’VE GOT FUCKIN’ CLAWS.

The claws pop out and you place one of their tips delicately on your forehead right where it hurts and apply just a hint of pressure. You’re not sure why this works, but after getting discharged and sent to Bethesda the pain was so bad you tried to dig it out with a pen.

Well, luckily for you you didn’t end up scooping your brains out with a melon baller, but you did notice that some pressure at a fine point actually did help.
You spin it in place a few tim- OH WHO THE FUCK IS THAT. You drag your hand back and take three inches of your forehead with it as you scramble to your feet.

“MOTHERFUCKER PISS SHIT I’M GOING TO FUCKING KILL YO-”

Your left hand is already closed around her throat and your right hand, claws included, are ready to stick her like a boar before realizing that…

Oh. Fuck.

It’s a little girl. Like, no shit, she can’t be more than 12, and she’s wearing the cutest little yellow sundress and your hand is wrapped around her throat and she’s crying and gasping for air and why aren’t you letting go? Fuck! Put the rabbit down, Lenny! Put it down!

You don’t react to surprise in a well adjusted way.

You force your body to command you, not your instinct, and you slowly release her neck.

She runs off, alternating between crying and taking in big, deep breaths.

Shit. You will the claws to pull back and fall back down into your chair, slumping so hard you’re halfway to invisibility.

Not the best first day someone could have. And you thought your head hurt earlier. Jesus…

And, to make it worse, just when you thought your despair spiral had leveled out into control flight, a very angry suit and a very distressingly calm...hmm. He slouches too much to be Tier 1, but you’re very familiar with bags under the eyes that never go away.

The suit’s face clearly isn’t his first. You can see the blood running down his collar and staining his shirt. He’s busy yelling at the other man. He stares at you the same way Mooj did after he’s said his piece.

Hate. He leaves the way he came, back down the white, sterile hall under the bright fluorescent lights. His blood are the only spots of color.

You supposed you’d be upset too.

You jump to your feet and snap a salute towards the man.

“Jesus tit fucking shit eating Christ. Stop with that saluting bullshit. I hate you infantry types. Jesus.... What a first impression. That girl you nearly skewered is one of the idols you were just hired to protect. I doubt you’ll be seeing a lot of her. At least you had the good sense to look before you leaped. We haven’t met.”

You drop your salute quickly as you listen to him, and reach out your hand to meet the one he just extended.

“Odell Price, senior analyst and handler. Chances are we’ll work together at least once, depending on how long you live. Welcome to orientation. We’re going to spend a few minutes reviewing your contract, then it’s action stations.”

That’s nice, there were a few points on your employment agreement that you wa- wait, what?

“Excuse me?”

Price frowns. “Why do you think we asked if you were available to start immediately? Wheels don’t stop turning.”

That’s...seems to scan, you guess.

He leads you down that same, white hallway and opens a plain looking black door after touching his palm to it, swinging it open. He holds it open for you and waits.

It’s a small office. There are only two chairs, a desk, and one is definitely nicer than the other.

You take a seat in the shit one.

“Few things. You need to decide on your 401k and benefit plans beneficiaries, in event of your death. Is there someone you wanted to name?”

>Your parents are still alive, it should go to them.
>You want your significant other to get it.

Other: Our sibling. We have a younger sister, who's going through school, and has her whole life ahead of her....
Plot Twist: She's considering getting into the idol business! Maybe not as an idol, but support staff or something....or maybe she's in school to foster singing talents after all!

It means she started scalping herself in surprise and gouged out three inches of her forehead.

“Yes. My younger sister.”

“Name and address, please.”

“Regina St. Claire. I don’t know where she lives. We don’t talk. She should still be in school, somewhere, I think..”

Price puts down his pen and buries his face into his hands and sits there for a few moments.

Eventually he picks it back up. “I’m sure it won’t be a problem.”

You’ve seen plastic toys with more convincing smiles.

“And there was more one thing…”

He throws down his pen. You continue over the loud clattering. “I want a fake ID that says I’m twenty one. I’m not waiting another two years to legally drink.”

Price looks relieved and...maybe even a bit sympathetic. “Oh. We can do that. Don’t try to leave the country with it.”

He shoves some papers in front of you, which you sign MICHELLE ODETTE SAINT CLAIR, then date.

He takes the forms and stacks them neatly into a manilla envelope with a sticker with your name on it and passes you a plain white paper envelope. It’s sealed.

You take it and shoot out a claw (coolest mail opener EVER) and slice it open and pull out the contents. It’s a check fo-

Oh. Oh wow.

That’s a lot of money all at once.

Price sees your eyebrows leave your face and enter orbit and laughs, eventually wiping a tear out of the corner of his eye. “First month’s salary, inclusive of danger pay. I’m sure HR beat this point to death, but in case it didn’t take, welcome to the city. Don’t try to leave without informing us. Now let’s go. You’re on a schedule now.”

He tucks the pen back inside his coat jacket and grabs the folder as you pocket your check, and he leads you towards an elevator that begins taking you down.

SESSION END. Thanks for playing everyone. I feel good about this and I think you guys will too.

Made a twitter. Hopefully I don't need to use a real email. Will post in qtg.

>SESSION END. Thanks for playing everyone. I feel good about this and I think you guys will too.

I like it so far

please turn down the Spaz aspect.

michelle comes off as super spazzy super ez to surprise, and not coordinated at all. its way at odds with her background - even if she has an injury, she's still a trained solder, and that includes situational awareness.

I suspect it coming across like that has to do with everyone involved being fucking tired and starting at/near midnight though.
>>
>>30929374
Little girl with a light step with soft soles doesn't leave much situation to be aware of coupled with "stranger danger - kill or be killed," instinct leaves for a poorly adjusted young adult/teenager.

I mean, this is my interpretation, which is what I've been intending to mean.

Clearly since you disagree I need to start writing better, so...tomorrow should be kinder.
>>
Going to archive this before I fuck off to bed.

See y'all tomorrow. Hopefully I can ride this high until then.
>>
>>30929408

just seems like you're going for 'schitzo action movie soldier villian' than 'actual soldier'

kids sneak up on people all the time, but most adults don't try to kill them.

just sayin, my little bro comes around, he gets a hug, not a gun to the face.

Do you have PTSD?
>>
>>30929465
100% definitely. It'll be early to mid afternoon Pacific time.

Everyone, including me, should be totally functional.

>>30929462
PTSD is a hell of thing, not to mention the literal brain damage from having a x54r round try to scoop your brains out at 800+ meters a second.

I mean, I understand what you're saying...but I also want you to try to understand that Michelle is not well, and is very much a product of two years as an infantrymen in a hostile environment.
>>
>>30929522
>PTSD is a hell of thing, not to mention the literal brain damage from having a x54r round try to scoop your brains out at 800+ meters a second.

i thought we got the arm tho
>>
>>30929540
Michelle's medical discharge was due to the head trauma from Mr. Mooj.

She would've had two augmetic arms if you (players) had selected the arm injury.
>>
Ok...bed time, for real. See you in a bit, anon.
>>
>>30929522
>but I also want you to try to understand that Michelle is not well
So then write her like she's not well, maker her a well defined coherent character, instead of an incoherent schizophrenic mess of random surface thoughts forming into narrative sentences
