You are the PRODUCER, a former soldier hired to manage a group of teenage girls on their rise to stardom, assuming they don't get killed in the process!

You arrive back at the office in the morning as usual, and as usual, Jenner is already there to greet you. You wonder if she doesn't actually just live in the office building.

"Morning, Jenner." You.

"Morning, Producer." Jenenr nods at your arrival. "We have a busy day today. New staff, new purchase options..."

I think Cole and the new combat idol are going to be rivals and fight often, mostly for the fact that Cole has the ability to disable augs and the augs in question probably don't have military grade shielding. Things can potentially get ugly if Cole disables the other's leg or arm as a perceived joke. To some, that would be the equivalent to taking away someone's independence.

My ideal setup is 2 hummers, carapace armor for Julie, and upgraded armor for everyone else, and save for the next game-changing item.

If we equip like a predictable military unit, then we still are going to be at a disadvantage because the DeRosa girls are probably well trained against conventional threats. Therefore, we need to gain serious advantages such as an overpowered Railgun or something that gives us a similar edge.

"...you wanted a trauma surgeon, right?" She asks.

"That's right." You nod. "I'm sure you of all people know that battlefield wounds can get very serious."

"Well, I'm sure our new doctor is more than qualified." Jenner says confidently as she leads you to the meeting room. Inside you see a rather young looking man sitting down in one the chairs, wearing a doctor's coat. Next to him, you also see a young blonde girl in a nurse uniform, presumably his assistant.

"Producer, this is Dr. Stiles, formerly of the Caduceus Medical Group." Jenner says. "Dr. Stiles, this the Producer."

"Pleasure to meet you." The young doctor smiles, shaking your hand.

You vaguely remember Caduceus being a privately run humanitarian group, a bit similar to the Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders. You sort of wonder what he's doing here, of all places.

I need to get this off my chest:

If we do stoop to the level as the competition and sabotage another idol's performance, is that implying we don't have faith in our lineup's ability to perform and we must make someone else look bad to make them look good in comparison; and can the girls' ability to capture the hearts and minds of the public improve when we merely hinder the competition's capabilities to the point where we don't need to constantly seek self-improvement?

I will try not to involve "morals" in the following as it is already self-explanatory.

I agree that the competition should at least respect us out of fear or admiration, but for me, sabotaging another idol's performance would only hinder the growth of our own idols as there is no challenge when we move the "finish line" closer instead of making them run the extra mile.
Competition can be a good thing as it gives our idols a reason to improve their skills and it gives us a goal to aspire to and surpass. If we remove all of the competition, there would be no reason to improve on performance skills and we would just improve combat/sabotage skills which will make us more like guns for hire rather than an idol company. Sabotaging performances will also make us hated (which we NEED to avoid at all costs) and could cause rival companies to band together to take us down (this is a bad thing).
Let's say we make it to the top of the food chain and we decide to sabotage anyone who tries to get our seat of power, this would cause our performance skills to stagnate and our fans decide to follow more entertaining idols.

The problem is that we need to be feared. Sure we can go do a backstage op and do absolutely nothing, showing what we COULD have done to the competition, but we can't do that forever or else all of our threats lose their bite. This leaves us with a conundrum, how do we instill fear without being hated?
(1/2)
>>
>>30924368
Ask about his reasons for joining, experience and his assistant, are we gonna pay her a separate salary or is she some sort of robot assistant?
>>
>>30923294
Merc, can we get a list of skills thr Producer has?
>>
>>30924368
>Ask them What brings them to Clover Entertainment

>Ask about their experience and skill set

>Warn them that our idols are a bit unique
>>
>>30924470
Simple.

We make them fear us by showing them how devoted we are to ensuring that we give the audience the best quality performance, and annihilating any saboteur that dares fuck with our bread and butter. Every time our rivals come upon a pile of saboteurs on their doorstep, we are sending them a message: "Don't fuck with us, or else." Our rivals should fear what would happen to them if we are pushed too far.

We can also flex our muscle in front of our rivals without being hated by doing the idol industry's equivalent to "military exercises". For example, put a girl in a marksmanship contest to show her skill with firearms, have some girls take part in a mixed-martial arts or something similar to show their prowess in hand to hand combat, or even put them in a marathon to show their endurance, etc. All of this being an elaborate showing of our "Big Stick". This won't piss off rivals directly, it shows that they shouldn't mess with us, and it can give us publicity.

>>
>>30924598
Seconding this.

Our problem will not be installation of genetic mods or augs, but rather keeping a girl who is in severe pain from shocking everything in the room or breaking restraints.
>>
>>30924509
First we need to get to that point of strength, we are no superpower yet. We can still get cut down by black ops idols quite easily, given our low population.
>>
>>30924470
>>30924509
While I agree with your sentiment, I fear it's too simplistic. There will always be some ambitious asshole trying to get ahead, or any other irrational producer that is more greedy than smart.

I think it would be best to establish a cartel of idol groups to stabilize the market. Kinda like telecom or ISPs. Collude with each other and the government to create high barriers of entry and strangle any potential competition.

"Well, Caduceus is a pretty impressive spot on your resume." You say, eyeing the young doctor. "What exactly is your experience?"

"Well, I've been in a warzone or two, if that's what you're worried about." Dr. Stiles laughs lightly. "So I'm well versed in battlefield injuries, so you shouldn't be afraid. I've treated many soldiers like you before."

"You're pretty sharp." You grin. "How did you know?"

"Oh, just the way you walk, as well as your arms. Veterans have a distinct stiffness to their stride due the training they're indoctrinated with, and the moment I felt your arms, I knew they were military grade augs."

"Good, good." You nod. "Then you must also realize that it's not my own well being I'm worried about..."

"Yes, I'm very well aware of the realities of the idol business." Dr. Stiles sighs.

"Then why'd you leave Caduceus to work for a lowly idol company like ours?" You ask.

"To put it frankly, I needed a break." Dr. Stiles sighs. "While highly respected, Caduceus' high standards means low membership. Getting shuttled around to crisis zones all over the world can get exhausting. I just... decided a change of pace was needed, so I took an indefinite leave of absence. I thought starting up a small practice in Delta City would be the change of pace I needed. By joining up with you, I don't need to worry about finding my own office."

Heh, this was a pretty sharp guy.

"And your assistant?" You motion to the nurse.

"Ah, how rude of me!" Dr. Stiles chuckles. "This is my assistant, Angela Thompson. She sort of the one that gets me to finish my work!"

"Because he's a lazy bum otherwise." Angela grins and shakes your hand. "A pleasure."

"You don't have to worry about paying her. She works pro bono." Dr. Stiles adds. "I, however, still have living expenses."

"All right." You nod.

Well, from the sounds of it, he seems like a capable doctor, and his references and letters of recommendation check out.

>Ask him anything else?
>>
>>30924798
>Ask him anything else?

And does he know the nature of the Idol Business? It's rather cutthroat and our girls are going to get injured, as much as we can avoid it.

"Well, just for full discretion, we have one highly genemodded idol in our employ. She can generate electricity, so I'm not sure how that would affect your operations."

"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind." Dr. Stiles nods.

"All right, Producer, we have many other appointments to keep up with. Let's leave Dr. Stiles and Miss Thompson here to get acquainted with their new surroundings."

"Sure." You nod. "Now we check our hacker?"

"Yes, they're waiting in the data center."

That's right, you hired a cybersecurity expert. You had no doubt Falynn was skilled, but even she admitted that she had her limits when it came to software.

You are met with a very tired looking girl quickly tapping away the keys of her workstation. She doesn't even turn around when she speaks up.

"Boy, it was pretty timely for you to bring me in." She says flatly. "To put it frankly, your firewalls and antivirus programs are a joke. A 12 year old script kiddy could break through them. Don't worry, I made your systems 12 year old proof already."

"Um, thanks?" You frown. Upon closer inspection, you see that the girl is terribly pale as well, indicating that she never really went outside much, either.

"Oh yeah, the name's Himawari." She says, taking a pull from a large bottle of soda. "I guess we'll be working together from now on.

Well, you guess it was worth a try.

"Okay then, what are you qualifications? No offense, but you seem a bit... young."

"Oh, well, I started off as a amateur white hat, combing programs and data networks for vulnerabilities. First as a hobby, and then I started getting good at it, and then I realized I could be making money off it and never leave the house ever. I did a lot of freelance work for a lot of the Megacorps, tuning firewalls and closing gaps. But... they only pay you so much, and sometimes not at all. Not likely as it'd be very niche and Namco isn't known for letting other companies localize their stuff.

"Let's go meet our new performance idol." You say.

"Sure thing." Jenner nods. "Now, just a fair bit of warning, I couldn't find an ACTUAL punk idol, since, generally speaking, 'genuine' punks consider idols their antithesis."

"Yeah, I sort of figured that."

""So, well, I had to take some liberties." Jenner shrugs. "But I believe she's still a solid choice."

She then passes you a folder. You open it up to see the profile of your new idol.

Niko Yamada, 18, a Japanese immigrant. Has a record of minor juvenile delinquency and had some rather outspoken beliefs about recreational use of augs and genemods. However, other than some slight liberal and anti-establishment tendencies, she seemed solid enough.

"Well, she certainly is a world apart from Rin." You concede.

You then enter the meeting room where Niko is waiting. As somewhat expected, she's messing with a tablet with her booted feet resting on the table.

Kids.

"Yo!" She says, setting her tablet aside and waving.

"So um, what made you want to be an idol?" You ask. Might as well start with the important question first.

"Oh, well, you know, I sorta thought it'd be cool to get into, and I was also sorta hoping I could piss my parents off in the process." She says a bit quickly and with a big enthusiastic grin on her face.

"Wait, can you run that by me again?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Oh yeah, well, my parents are actually still back in Japan. They sent me here to 'improve my educational opportunities', but I was like, 'screw that'. I thought it'd be cool if I could get into showbiz. Seemed way more exciting than trying to study to be a stuffy old engineer or doctor or whatever the hell Mom and Dad want me to be."

Oh, well, you should've expected to be dealing with a spunky, rebellious teen. However, she was over eighteen, so she had the right to make her own choices.

"All right, about this criminal record you've have..."

"Oh, that, yeah, I sorta got mixed in with a few gangs. Mostly just did small stuff, like vandalism and graffiti. Got picked up by the cops a couple times, and my parents were PISSED when they found out!" Niko chuckles. "But yeah, that was in high school. Now I sort of need to look for a job, and lo and behold, I see you guys are hiring!"

"You understand, that in order to get the job, you have to have some experience in both singing and dancing." You point out. As you say this, you scan the notes Lillith added in to Niko's file. Apparently, Lillith classified Niko as a typical middle to upper class psuedo-punk. They were attracted to the punk lifestyle, but were unwilling to make the sort of commitment to be a "true" punk .Usually they just adopted their fashion and resorted to minor crime to make themselves feel like proper punks.

Lillith also added in a note that she suspected Niko's punkish behavior was merely her way to try and attract her parents' attention. Delinquency, after all, was one of the most common methods children resorted to when dealing with neglect.

Well, you suppose it could be worse. She could've been a murderous psychopath with superpowers.

"Okay, yeah, I can do that!" Niko nods rapidly. "I've like, done soooooooo much karaoke and DDR that I can literally memorize most of the stuff by heart!"

>Haha! Time to choose Niko's themesong! Post your suggestions and if I really like one of them, well, we'll see what happens!

Well, you have to admit, for somebody who was basically self taught, Niko wasn't too bad. She even adds in a few dance moves, despite the relatively cramped confines of the meeting room. You make sure to record what you're seeing and broadcast it over to Ushiyama.

"So what do you think?" You ping him.

"Hmmm, she's certainly a bit rough, nothing I can't salvage." He sniffs. "At least I won't have to start from scratch, unlike the combat idol you're going to be hiring soon."

"So much confidence." You say sarcastically.

"But yes, I believe I can train this Niko up to Rain's standards, assume she sticks with the program."

"Oh, I'm sure she will." You assure him.

Finally, Niko's impromptu audition ends, and she stands panting.

"Well, how did I do?"

"Not bad." You say. "We'll take you in. If you do well, we'll consider making the position permanent."

"YESSS!" Niko fistpumps. "Thank you!"

"Now, there's the matter of accommodation..."

"Well, I have an apartment my parents are paying for, buuuuuut, if they find out what I'm doing the might cut me off..." Niko says a bit sheepishly.

Oh shit...I just made a dire epiphany.

With Cole and Julie out of the Tombs for this long, was there a power vacuum during their absence?

This. This is good.

That's what we're here to find out.
>>
>>30927441
What, it's not like things are going to get worse.
>INB4 things get really worse.
>>
>>30927439
Yeah, but only means that what we consider punk is mainstream and in order to really rebel you have to either become a reactionary conservative (like straight edge punks) or go all out.

Even so, the culture of the Tombs probably has some subtitles that Niko's brand of punk might notice and look down on (or possibly look up to for being REALLY hardcore).

But my original point remains. I don't think Cole and Niko are in the same subculture.
>>
>>30927441

Probably.

Maybe a state of war.

Which is why an armored car delivered now might be a good idea.
>>
>>30927441
We should take our combat idols with us. All of them.
>>
>>30927474
Hopefully, the most violent ones were offed during the initial stages of the potential turf war.

>>30927474
Better to not attract attention, which Cole and Julie will help us with.
>>
>>30927471
I don't see that as a bad thing. Now we can appeal to both.
>>
>>30927491
Well, I think just talking to Niko and Cole about the subject might be an easier approach.

We want these two to become friends so we should probably shanghai Cole into becoming Niko's mentor. I think she'd like the responsibility (and maybe get her morale back up to 8)
>>
>>30927441
>With Cole and Julie out of the Tombs for this long, was there a power vacuum during their absence?

>new leader rises from the ashes

"Yeah, well, isn't that what guys like you are supposed to be for? To keep us safe?"

"That's true." You chuckle.

>>30927545
>I'm mostly expecting Niko to irritate the shit out of Cole, but hey, they can surprise me.
Cole actually got along pretty well with the other girls! they bonded over things once they started talking.

If anything is going to be a point of contention between those two, its going to be her Intelligence and Wealth.
She's obviously smart and nerdy, but more importantly her parents are giving her a free ride to life/college - which is something cole never had.
>>
>>30927441
It's a shame we can't just get the Tunnel Snakes to establish some form of outpost to fill in the void of Cole and Julie.
>>
>>30927573
I'm more afraid that Niko is going to try to be punk and imitate Cole, which will really irritate Cole because she is just some middle-class wannabe that has no respect to the conditions in the tombs. Which is why I'm pushing for the visit to the tombs.
>>
>>30927573
Hopefully Cole takes pride in her spartan lifestyle.
>>
>>30927601
Which is why we need to start a marketing scheme in the tombs and take over that district. We need to get promotional AK-74s and ammo from Marcus and give them out in raffles to loyal fans.
>>
>>30927534
>Go recruit your combat idol.

"All right, Niko, how about we introduce you to the other idols?" You say.

"Cool!" Niko grins and nods. "Lead the way!"

You, Niko, and Jenner make your way up the stairs to the dorms. However, when you open the door, you are greeted with a somewhat surprising sight.

There, on the floor of the recreation area, you see all of your idols plus Falynn all fast asleep, arms legs and bodies all tangled in an unrecognizable mess. Pizza boxes and empty soda cans lay discarded everywhere and the TV was still on.

This was a little more than embarrassing.

I'm still vexed that we lost Cole morale because, of all things, we kept our communications gear on during a mission. What if she'd been attacked while dancing? We were in 100% overprotective dad mode, it's not even a question. There was no legitimate reason beyond shot-in-the-dark paranoia to leave the line open and eavesdrop.

Not to say shot-in-the-dark paranoia isn't a generally positive trait in parents within reason, since with teenagers it's often fully justified, but it also pisses said teenagers off something fierce since they're 15 and invincible and infallible.
>>
>>30927835
No, we chose to keep our communications gear on during a potentially (but not actively) hostile situation. The fact that Cole chose to have a moment with a boy while she was on the job isn't terribly relevant to the fact that we absolutely must maintain communications with one another at all time while working.

Not wanting to miss the chance, you decide to snap a few pictures with your augmetic eyes for... reasons. It was just too funny of a scene not to. Rochelle and Rin seemed to have fallen asleep side by side, with their tilting heads leaning against each other. At their feet, Falynn was clutching Rochelle's N64 close to her like a teddy bear. Julie and Cole looked as if they had gotten into some sort of brawl and just passed out in the middle of it. Or maybe they were sleep fighting, you weren't sure. All you knew was that they were tangled together in a very compromised position that you probably shouldn't describe.

"Heh, maybe we should do this some other time, Niko." You chuckle. "You'll have to go back to your own residence to handle moving arrangements, right?"

"Oh yeah, I probably should!" Niko nods and shakes your hand with both of hers. "Anyways, thanks for hiring me, Producer! I'll make you proud!"

"I'll show her out." Jenner says as she follows the hyperactive pseudo-punk down the stairs.

You take one look back at your sleeping girls and sigh. You then channel your inner drill sergeant and produced the highest pitched whistle you can manage. The shrill noise jolts all five girls awake.

"WAKEY WAKEY!" You bellow. "COME ON, LADIES! IT'S TIME TO GET UP!"

They all groan and wince in the morning sunlight as they slowly get up. Cole and Julie blush furiously when they see the position they're in and quickly untangle themselves.

"M-morning, Producer." Rin mumbles.

"Morning, sir!" Rochelle snaps to attention and salutes you.

The other girls, still a bit zoned out, just kind of mumble their greetings.

"Come on, girls, get this cleaned up and get dressed. Today's still a workday, you know." You tut. "Rochelle, Julie, Cole, once you're done get into your tac gear. We're going out today."

You get a few tired grunts, which you take as affirmation.

>>30928083
I though you said bunker at first. It will be awesome if we can get a BNK3R in the endgame.
>>
>>30928091
Railgun is overkill, We should spend money on weapon necessary for the mission.

We needed the Ak-74 and the Riot Shielf since it was needed for Cole who didn't have a weapon and Julie who needed a shield for her defensive perks.

Since we're going into possibly hostile territory, uparmoring our ride and maybe our girl's armor should be sufficient.

The Tomb hold no real indication of advance weaponry, so we might expect at least 9mm and maybe an assult rifle at most
>>
>>30928133
Well I'm thinking for the long run. Railgun will be both an equalizer and a terror weapon against experienced and hardened idols.

Armor is always essential.
>>
>>30927956
"All right girls, let's get some breakfast." You grin as you head over to the kitchen. Thankfully, it's well stocked with Instant Breakfast, so you don't have to do too much cooking yourself, which was good since you weren't too good at it. You just popped the package into the microwave and after a minute or two you would have a full, hot breakfast ready to go.

Ah, the wonders of modern technology.

You also take the time to brew some coffee. Unfortunately, science hadn't yet advanced to the point where instant coffee didn't taste like rotten motor oil.

Now dressed and cleaned up, your idols slowly filter in as they start filling their plates and eating. Most of their conversation is focused around last nights performance, as well as browsing the net on the phones to see public reaction to the broadcast.

Meanwhile, you access Marc's online store app, and you see a few new items added to the list.

I don't think we should sink money into the van.

We're getting the SUV anyway.

Van doesn't need to be better if we never use it.

and a plain van is good for civilian use, like our support staff picking up electronics.

Voting no to upgrade kits. Get those after our next payday
>>
>>30928309
>I think the ACOG should be given to Rochelle,
But Rochelle is using an SMG. Would the ACOG really be that much better with the M66 SMG?
>>
>>30928316
We don't need to.

Cole already has electricity, no need to upgrade her weapon.

>>30928321
Yeah, I know. Seems opposite. Julie is close combat specialist, Rochelle is ranged.

>>30928331
Rochelle will have the training to use it better. Both Cole and Julie prefer to fight closer.
>>
>>30928309
This.
>>
>>30928331

we should be using holo sights on SMGs anyway, and acogs on midrange weapons like an assault rifle

Merc: does 'firearms 1' training cover ALL guns, or will we have to train people up on snipers if we buy any?
>>
>>30928331
Also, to add to myself, Rochelle should have the rifle. That way we can make her an impromptu designated marksman, and Juile is better at close range, especially with the carapace armor we are giving her.
>>
>>30928354
>Rochelle will have the training to use it better. Both Cole and Julie prefer to fight closer.
So switch the SMG to Julie and the M55 to Rochelle, and equip the M55 with an ACOG and the M66 with a Holo Sight?
>>
>>30928354
>We don't need to.

>>
>>30928242
>I know everyone is going to disagree with the Railgun

Lul truth.

This minus the railgun.

>>30928385
Cole doesn't need her weapon upgraded, she needs to learn to use it.

Look at her sheet: no firearms, no armor proficiency.

Basics first.
>>
>>30928385
Then she has the reliable AK. The point is that we have to use our money effectively, and it will be better to invest ranged weaponry of Rochelle rather than Cole.
>>
>>30928223
Let's not spend much.

If we need to buy new guns, we can do it when the mission calls for it. Besides the trip to the tombs does not need a sniper

+ Carapace armor.

we want our heavy riot cop to get better at heavy armor and be a point man.

That means she needs heavy armor.
>>
>>30928407
Yeah. If anything we already got Cole one of the best potential guns for her. If we don't want to splurge on a railgun and take advantage of the fact she can power it, then the next best thing is a reliable gun that she could accidentally hit with lightning and it would probably work just as well afterwards.

Not the anon, but this business is cutthroat. One should always expect betrayal from this highly competitive industry. We have no way of making them keep their word as they probably have allies, while we're the bottom bitch.
>>
>>30928436

Has it occurred to you that trying to brute force power a railgun with a power source it wasn't designed to handle a bad fucking idea?

Because it's a horrendously bad fucking idea.
>>
>>30928486
Well that's the point of the Railgun. Heavy Armor might stop Sniper bullets. Nothing stops a railgun from a mile away. It's value as a terror weapon and as a strong deterrence will make even the most experienced idol group think twice from attacking us. Even if they did think of a way to nullify it, it will cost them resources that will lessen the main attack.

>>30928510
Judge a man by how he treats his inferiors. I don't trust him to keeps his end of the bargin, he'll probably dispose of us once we are not useful anymore.

I would have taken the deal, then backstab him first before his backstabs me.
>>
>>30928549
But they know we won't use it to kill or else we'll destabilize the entire damn city in civil war.
>>
>>30928549
You know killing enemy idols is in completely bad taste
>>
>>30928466
The deal wasn't great. We'd be doing them a tangible service (fighting their competition, who wouldn't take kindly to that at all) in exchange for a nebulous "favor" which would be contingent on us staying out of their turf, and we want their turf because it contains delicious fans and dosh.

If we were larger and more influential, to the point that they couldn't risk fucking us for fear of direct retribution I would have considered it, but it felt too much like a one-way peace treaty that would have made us their buttbuddy.
>>
>>30928486
>I'm just wondering how a railgun won't kill the DeRosa idols.

FYI killing idols is Against The Idol Business.

Actually DOING what you intend to is a 100% guaranteed way to get ALL the other companies to come down on our heads.

And we've survived by NOT sticking our heads out.

The way to use a railgun is as a Tactical Asset doing Property Damage.

Nailing idols? bad
Nailing their transports? Good
taking out their robot support? Good.
Blowing their cover away? Good.
Sniper-trailing to blow holes in their heavy weapons, but not their operators? Good AND showey, which is doublegood in this biz.
>>
A railgun is really more firepower than we need right now.

General rule of thumb:
Make allies with those equal or below you. Never make allies with those above you.

To be a devil's advocate: That is a good idea, but can be abused. For example, that idol just so happened to hold an assault rifle I was shooting at. The bullet just so happened to penetrate through it and kill her by accident.

Okay, so:

Armored SUV
Ballistic Vest x3
Carapace Armor

Purchased!

Total spent: $4500
Treasury: $5800

Rochelle and Julie have swapped weapons!

----

With the girls having eaten breakfast and gotten geared up, you finally tell them what you have in mind.

"All right, girls, we're going back to the Tombs."

"Aw man." Cole groans. "Do we have to?"

"Yes." You say sternly. "There was another girl down there. Augmetic arm and leg. You know her?"

"Oh, I think you're talking about Melissa." Julie raises her hand. "She's kinda famous down there for being undefeated in the Pit, the Tomb's unofficial fighting ring. A real mean motherfucker."

"Yeah, well, that's who we're going to try and recruit."

"Um, how bad is the Tombs?" Rochelle asks.

"It's a fucking hellhole." Cole spits.

"Yeah, pretty much what Cole said." You nod. "A hellhole. That's why we got new gear so we're better prepared to handle things down there."

"Okay." Rochelle nods. "Resistance?"

"Mostly light. It's lawless down there, but the residents won't mess with anybody who they see is more powerful than them. We roll in with as much firepower as we can pack, and I'm pretty sure they'll back off."

"Pretty sure?"

"Always have to assume for the worst." You say.

"True." Rochelle concedes.

"Well, it'll always be nice to see home again!" Julie grins.

"Whoop de fucking doo." Cole rolls her eyes.

It doesn't take long for Marc to deliver the ordered gear. The SUV and body armor and promptly shipped in, and you distribute the body armor to your girls. Jenner takes the driver seat of the SUV and you all pile in.

"Well, at least it's not MY car on the line this time." Jenner grunts.

"It's still company property, so please be nice." You say.

"I'll keep that in mind."

And with that, your small assault force heads back to the Tombs...

>And that's it for tonight! We're back to the regular schedule, so PJ Witches on Friday, Cyberpunk Idols on Saturday, and Magical Girl Hunter on Sunday!

If we use the railgun to kill another idol, we should expect to lose everyone involved in the action in a retaliatory strike.
Just straight up dead.
and then the rest of the company buried in legality and bad media.

The railgun is unique for us. For the corporations, its mass produced.

I am not advocating using it against idols. I'm fully against having to use it in the first place. That's the point in deterrence. To prevent hostilities in the first place.
>>
What does augmetic mean again? Add-ons or complete replacement?
>>
>>30928926
I believe in this context, it means fully replaced like a prosthetic, but more.

Come to think of it, what is the difference between an augment and a prosthetic?
>>
>>30928926
Augments are both implants (like a brain implant that might help you concentration or automatically translate moonrunes) but can also be a prosthetic.

Producer only received implants. It is fairly safe to assume his limbs were not amputated and replaced.
>>
>>30928942
His shooting arm was auged. When meeting Cole for the first time, he mentioned his arm's EMP shielding absorbing her attack. I also think he said something about losing control temporarily.
>>
>>30928919
A weapon that an enemy knows cannot be used is not a deterrent.
Many Producers are not as considerate or caring for their idols as Mr. Producer. Sure, they may lose a combat idol or two, maybe even a performance idol. But in exchange, they can get the sympathy and support of every other idol company, even the AAA megacorp-backed ones, and all the resources they need to wipe Clover Entertainment off the map.

It's a deterrent that, once actually examined, has no real deterrent effect at all.
>>
>>30928959
Not the anon, but I fear what would happen when we meet a complete rookie who's new to the business and kills and idol. Or someone who is so desperate, they will resort to murdering the competition by making it look like an accident.
>>
>>30928942
To make the distinction, Augs are powered while prosthetics are not. Both of Producer's arms are augmetic due to his role a marksman.
>>
Did any of our staff mention what would happen if fans of one idol attacked a rival idol?
>>
>>30928969
>what would happen when we meet a complete rookie who's new to the business and kills and idol
Then we'll get to see how the idol industry deals with an idol-killer, and why threats of killing idols is not acceptable in the business.
>>
>>30928959
So the railgun really is useless as a deterrent and as a weapon cause of consequences. It's probably only good for revenge strikes, which means we can just buy it at that time. Unless for some reason we get oneshotted at home then we really wish we had it.

If we're getting oneshotted at our HQ (which breaks the standards of the business and will likely bring down the ire of the AAA's for letting the ugliness of the industry get seen by the masses), then we'll have wanted all of those automated turrets, area-denial shotguns, and a whole mess of things besides the railgun.
>>
>>30929042
I hope we installed those roadblocks that can be raised or lowered into the ground automatically just in case someone rams a truck through the front door.
>>
>>30929039
Presumably nothing as long as they denounced the act, nobody can prove then incited it, and it doesn't happen frequently enough to make it obvious that it's deliberate.

Decommed ED-209 that Falyn repaired and re-equipped with extra weapons, and that Himawari upgraded the OS and firewall.

Generally fans are not very competent, so if your idols get killed by some random guy, you obviously don't deserve to be in the business field at all.

Organized attacks by enemy fans are exceedingly rare, Sure, there may be coordinate attempts at harassment, but assassination is not something they would consider.

Just to clarify, the unspoken rules for Idol combat are thus:

1. Targeted assassination is highly frowned upon, especially during sanctioned events.

2. Killing in self defense is usually justified.

3. Lethal force is considered a viable option if the enemy idols are engaging in "unsanctioned activity". These would include surprise/guerrilla concerts or attacks on other idols .

Basically, engage other idols in combat, expect to kill or be killed. However, you're discouraged from blowing an idol's head off while she's performing on stage.
>>
>>30929194
Discouraged as long as the street team and PR crew were making a big deal about it.

If it's a surprise...
>>
>>30929194
So if we see them with guns, they are dead to rights?
>>
>>30929194

You know, instead of the railgun, i think i want the teleconference with taser rounds now.

Its a beautiful subversion of 'the rules' to take enemy idols alive when you have to engage them combat, like merc said - and then sell them back to their parent company.

Don't go for a bodycount. Go for being a total pain in the budget to go up against.
>>
>>30929237
>You know, instead of the railgun, i think i want the teleconference with taser rounds now.

Or the shotgun. It can also take specialist rounds.
>>
>>30929234
>So if we see them with guns, they are dead to rights?
I think they have to shoot first. Combat idols are a known thing, and if they're not attacking you, you can't say it's in self-defense.
>>
>>30929234
Basically, yes, as long as you keep collateral damage to a minimum, unless a patron megacorp is willing to foot the bill for damages.

Eh.

We still need to USE our harby for something thought.

I think it could be a fantastic tool to, say, put Rin in command of someone else doing a solo.
Like, if they'e not confident they can do it, they can intentionally 'tag out' to a teammate they trust.

Someone else also had the idea of P-san being able to jump into the cyberwolfs body. Sure, he'd have to learn to control it, but he'd be able to *help directly* which producers aren't normally allowed to do - but harbingers are mostly undetectable/untracable(except for oddities like cole).

No, harby's mind-control should be a last resort, to command frenzied personnel. Anything else will abuse the power and lead to mistrust.

Except those aren't hard to detect with proper equipment as far as we've been told, and logically the one of the first things you do after getting a hostage back is check to make sure nobody shoved them full of nanomachines.

The Harbinger sleeper agent plan falls apart the minute your targets have any reason to put the subject through a scan. It's not the kind of thing that will ever work against a well-equipped group unless you can sneak your sleeper in without giving them any reason to suspect they might be compromised.
>>

>>
>>30929443

Everyone says no, but they don't understand how it actually works.

We can't actually mind control anyone because we never set it up.

and anytime it ever comes up, people spam no and don't bother investigating at all.

There's way less to be afraid of now that we have a cybersecurity expert, anyway, and any potential trust issues are easy to assauge with simple teamwork and exercises using the device.

Its a team asset, but you're not thinking of it as anything but a big evil threat when its not really any of those things.
>>
>>30929489
Now that we have a real doctor on the staff, if an idol gets wounded during a fight, then we could ask another to tag out and have the doctor tag in to provide first aid to stabilize the wounded idol for transport back to him and his specialized equipment.
That is one of the uses of the Harbinger system, and none of our combat idols have any first aid training or experience.
>>
>>30929489
It is set up, we can take control of the girls at anytime right now. We also recognize the system and clearly we know in-character what its about and its uses. Also, you can't build trust and teamwork if you pilot the girls and force them what to do. I dont think you understand what those words means.

No, we dont. The harbinger is set up, but the entire thread freaked out about it, and if we push the big red button it wouldn't do anything because we didn't set up THAT feature of it.
Its a battle radio right now, but that its.

>Also, you can't build trust and teamwork if you pilot the girls and force them what to do. I dont think you understand what those words means.

I do, actually.

I'm not talking about US forcing anyone or anything.

I'm talking about letting the girls cover each other's advantages. Telling them about it, how to use it, getting them comfortable with the idea of helping each other out - THAT is teamwork.
Producer has nothing to do with it, forcing has nothing to do with it. and trust has everything to do with it
>>

We've decided against using the mind control feature and that's that. The decision is past, and it isn't going to change just because you keep harping on it.

At this point it just comes off as you being suspiciously fixated on someone getting mind controlled.
>>
>>30929613

I'll be interested at least in showing the girls how it works.

Say we set up a show and tell session with doctor stiles, and show how he sleeves us and performs some practice surgery on some meat slab.

As a form of disclosure as to what the platform is capable of.

Its better they freakout about it now rather than at a worse time in the field.
>>
>>30929641
>We've decided against using the mind control feature and that's that.
When did that get determined definitively? Because in-character, Producer knows of the benefits of the system, and even had a friend saved because the Harbinger allowed a doctor to operate on a buddy that got shot when they were in the field.
>>
>>30929532
>Now that we have a real doctor on the staff, if an idol gets wounded during a fight, then we could ask another to tag out and have the doctor tag in to provide first aid to stabilize the wounded idol for transport back to him and his specialized equipment.

I don't care about it for 'lol the mind control', i care about it because its an amazing way to shore up our weaknesses.

Jenner's suggestion to mix combat and performance idols instantly becomes irrelevant if we have both sides able to back each other up in the right situation.

Quest flipped as hit and overreacted and its been a sore point ever since.

>>30929665
>I'll be interested at least in showing the girls how it works.
Agreed on all accounts. Everyone freaking out about how evil it is hasn't bothered to even see if our staff is ok with it.
>>
>>30929665
These things are for a much later date, we don't need either the railgun or the harbinger anytime soon. Better to spend time and money on growing then preparing for war. Once we have a clear hostile company sending combatant our way, then we'll discuss railguns and harbingers.
>>
>>30929674
And that's a different situation entirely. If it's a choice between Harbinger and death we'll use it, but using it willy-nilly not only sets a terrible precedent, it'll also make the game boring as shit by reducing the cast to one amorphous stat-blob as the ideal person just bodyjacks into every situation. I'd like to keep my characters as individuals, thanks.
>>
>>30929720

If you keep being in denial about the harbinger, it will be too late to set up by the time we need it.

nobody has the brain aug or temporary injection to establish the network link anyway.

>>30929665

>>
>>30929720

Well its not about whether we need it now, its more about revealing what we have available to the girls.

Its a time of peace now, if we show it to them, they'll have time to think about it. Better now rather than revealing this trump card and shocking them during a time of crisis.
>>
>>30929701
>mix combat and performance idols instantly becomes irrelevant if we have both sides able to back each other up in the right situation.
Actually no, since there's still the problem of properly developed muscles and toughened bodies, and that having numbers is still an advantage.

>to even see if our staff is ok with it.
Jenner seemed ambivalent to it when the system and its benefits were explained to her. But then again, Jenner is very pragmatic and does from a military-style background, so she's the one to most readily accept it when it's explained as a means of providing specialist (especially medical) skills when needed.

>>30929720
>Once we have a clear hostile company sending combatant our way, then we'll discuss railguns and harbingers.
We've already sent our girls into a combat situation where they could have required immediate medical attention.
Or we completely forswear any combat missions until we're ready (having given the combat idols first aid training).

>>30929749
>And that's a different situation entirely
