Social + Zenith = 10 3 7 7 7 4 7 = 6 successes

"So... It is my soul you want? How predictable, for a Fae." You grin, pushing him a bit away from you, towards the edge of the bed.

"It is a thing of beauty." He admits, a note of sadness and longing in his voice. "It has captivated me. The courage of standing up to my Behemoth, the skillfulness and pure, brutal elegance of its destruction... You are interesting beyond anything that even my realm of endless wonders can provide. That was the reason I left the deepest reaches of beautiful Chaos to journey in this heavy and ugly realm... to find its gems."

He sighs wistfully. "And your soul, my beautiful Maka, is the finest of those."

"It is not something I am willing to offer. Not even to share. Not even just merely to be watched from a distance." You reply, pushing him a bit further away, up to the edge

"But... why not? Not even for all the pleasure, all the riches of the Wyld? My servants would be your servants. In my realm you would have a treasure trove of beauty, eternally full. I would be a powerful ally, and loyal only to you."

"You're really convincing, Garnet. But you're asking me something I can't give you." And with a nice kick to the stomach, you send him sprawled on the hard floor. "Someone else already laid a claim to it."

"W-what?" He stands up, enraged. "Who is it? Tell me, that I may free that beautiful soul from the filthy prison of his desires."

You hear the door to the infirmary exploding in tiny splinters of wood. Shrapnel washes over you and Garnet, but the blankets shield you somewhat.

"Me."

Horrified, Garnet turns to face Tia.

"...I, wait. I really didn't mean-" He tries to begin to explain himself, but he falls silent when he sees Tia's silver tattoos exploding with light as her anima blazes to full power.

The room and ship interior seems to vanish around you, replaced by ghostly silver images of trees with spiraling branches, like decoratively drawn celtic knots, standing around a still pond, a tranquil glade, shrouded in silence. Behind her, a circular shadow slowly fills, showing the phases of the waxing moon until it grows full, sending her rays all around.

Tia takes one step into the room, the wooden planks of the floor cracking under her weight. You can't help but notice she has her sword in hand.

Bit by bit, her eyes cover with a reflective layer of blue chitin. Plates of a glistening, tough-looking armored substance, colored in white and silver and green with touches of black, surface from her skin, covering her form as her dress vanishes. She gains almost a full meter in height.

...You've never seen her take on that form, and you're sure it doesn't belong to any real animal.

Her legs become longer and even more slender, and her arms sprout one long scythe-like blade each, jutting down from the wrist at a right angle, looking metallic and wickedly sharp.

"You see." She says at Garnet. "This is because Maka's soul and mine are bound to each other for all eternity."

"I... I didn't intend to-"

>>30916394
>Exalt, would you mind explaining the soulfucking/seduction mechanic OOC next thread? Just want to make sure I now what's going on with that since I'm new to Exalted.
Er, "soulfucking" isn't really a mechanic, just Garnet saying that he's interested in Maka from a spiritual and not purely physical point of view.
(this is also because, while Maka is beautiful for human standards, fae are literally as beautiful as they want to be since they design their own bodies, so they are in an entirely different league from any Creation-born creature)

Also, yeah, Fae can do stuff with souls, so he probably also meant that. Kinda like... eat dreams and that.

Seduction, or rather any kind of social attack, works... just like a physical attack: you have to roll and beat the victim's defense score. of course, you have a mental defense score rather than a physical one.

"...Well, Garnet." You grin at him from beneath your blankets. "I suggest you give us a reason to spare your pitiful excuse of a life, or whatever it is you have that moves that corpse of yours anyway."

"...You could have served her." Tia mumbles, stomping her armored foot on Garnet's stomach. "You could have been her lover. It would have been fine."

You suspect Tia didn't hear you.

"I... I have no interest in her body... only... her beautiful soul..."

"PATHETIC." She slams her foot into his stomach harder. You swear you've almost seen it go all the way through. "I was wrong to trust your love, Raksha." She doesn't even bother with her usual gesture - and why would she? "Because I thought you were less greedy than this."

"...Hey. Tia. Don't kill him." You suggest. "He can still be use-"

That's about when Tia slams her daiklave through his head, nailing him to the ship's pavement.

"-ful... or not, I guess."

She pulls the blade out, then stabs it back in, into his chest.

Then pulls it back out, and back in.

And again. And again. And again, and again, and again. His body loses a strange, rainbow-colored ichor which spills all around the floor, but quickly evaporates, together with your boots and jacket.

"...I think he's dead, Tia." You try to shake her out of it, noting she's still busy stabbing the point where his body was before dissolving.

Finally, she lets go of the daiklave, and the armored chitin flows back into her body. Her beautiful white dress sprouts back on her.

Her knees give in, and she falls to the floor, crying uncontrollably.

My lesson from all of this is that we should spam Iron Kettle Body like crazy and use the 0 to 1 short break mechanic. Had we used it every single time we could have been at 5/5 health right now and marching deep into fae territory.

In the future, please vote to use charms every single battle. In this game, good rolls are not as good as the bad ones are bad.

"I've quite had it enough with you. At least, with all that gossamer, I could have actually fixed things. Made weapons and magic for Tianna's defense. Wiped out the rest of the Fae. Made a kingdom for myself here in the West. Or even funds for my campaign to retake Gem. You? You're unreliable, useless, and dangerous."

Wait a moment.

"Get lost."

You tap on the glass.

It takes you a moment to realize that that's not you.

Another Maka is between you and her. You're hidden behind her. Tia can't see you. She can't hear you. Even you can't hear your own voice.

You slam your fists on the glamoured glass frenetically.

In it, you can see Garnet reflected as a pale image, smiling sweetly at you.

"I'm really sorry I have to do this." You don't hear the words, but that's what his lips say. "But to protect you, my love, I'll first have to get rid of that annoyance for you. I'm sure you understand. Soon we'll be together in my kingdom. In YOUR kingdom."

>You're right. Let her go. I can't wait, my dear.

[Essence: 1/5]

All of the wounds you accumulated in the battle for he last day scream in pain, your muscles flare up with ache and heat, and your heart explodes in anger.

With the first two punches, the iron plate of your gauntlets breaks into fine splinters, and the wall cracks like a shattered mirror.

All you see now is the broken reflection of Tia, standing up, turning towards the exit. her back facing you, she seems so small now...

Bits and flakes of the glass wall fly with each blow, one after another.

She is closing the door.

You're probably screaming, but no noise reaches your ear, not even the ringing bang of your repeated fists.

Then it all happens in a second. You break through, and the noise of the world kits you like a wave as you launch yourself against the closing door.

[Health: 1/5]

You smash through the wall, the door, and the space between them, and grab her wrist.

"NO!"

She turns, surprised, but you can't lose that much momentum. Together with her, you plow through the next wall, as the scream of the shattered fae dies out behind you, and land in the ship's mournfully empty cargo hold.

"...Maka...?" She can only whisper with a hoarse voice, eyes red and dull, her face streaked with tears.

"Don't go." You hold her. "Don't go."

She holds you back. "I... I'm sorry. I... I couldn't control myself. I couldn't stop. He... he wanted your soul, Maka. That's... that's something I don't want anyone else to have..."

That or the sword. Mainly because with the sword they can't even touch you and you can tell them to kill anybody and they will be compelled to. The heart grace on the other hand is more they lose all their free will and become your puppet. Problem is almost no fae is going to give that up because who would give up their free will?
>>
>>30918081

Now that I think about it, she might have came earlier to meet us "just in time" since she realized that with our last declaration about fae we were going to eat from the hand of this manipulative bastard. See that we as /tg/ even discussed possibility of opening ourselves, our thoughts, dreams etc. to the fucker. "...It's okay. It's okay. Nothing happened. That wasn't me." You gently cradle her in your arms.

"I didn't mean to... I didn't mean to..."

Her mutterings slowly become whispers, and then simple breathing, as she cries herself to sleep.

You slowly pick her up, being careful to not disturb her, and turn to the room.

No trace of Garnet, of the glass wall, or anything else. Only the hole in the wall, the smashed door, and the stab marks in the floor.

You carry her up to the bed, noting that Samiel has slept all the way through the whole ordeal, peacefully.

A bit worried for a moment, you check on him. He seems to be still alive, but his sleep seems really deep. He might have been drugged or something, to keep him from interfering.

Bastard thought about everything.

Reacting to the noises, the men from the crew arrive, alarmed. "Maka! What happened?!" Alexei leads them, armed with sword and board. You recognize the iron weapons hastily forged in Freeport.

Feeling your legs about to give, you tell him: "...have a physician check on Samiel. We're going to sleep. Stab every corner of the ship with iron."

With the face of someone who doesn't understand his orders but still trusts in their sanity, he nods. "Alright, you heard her, men! Move on!"

Meanwhile, you have barely enough strength to reach for the bed, deposit Tia, and then climb in yourself.

Thankfully, your sleep still has dreams.

Limit Break is a particular setting mechanic (that hasn't still been introduced, but that's because the characters themselves don't know about it IC).

Not in the terms people believe her to. It's rare knowledge even among expert loremasters.

She knows of legends about fae giving up their swords (their literal swords, not their "sword grace") and therefore being banned from harming humans, or sometimes a particular human, or human bloodline, for a hundred years. She also knows they must keep solemnly-worded oaths, and that their "hearts" can sometimes be physical objects outside their bodies, like what you'd think of a lich phylactery, and if you own them / break them / scratch them with an iron nail and carve your name on them /throw them into the ocean, the fae will die / disappear / fall in love with you / obey your orders / obey your orders to the letter in a way that ends up killing you / reverse gravity around them / curse you and your bloodline to the seventh generation or any combination thereof.

If some players keep expecting Maka to act like she has Twilight 5, maybe they should start saving up for it.

Compassion is kindness, empathy and generosity.
Conviction is determination and willingness to do unpleasant things for a greater cause.
Temperance is the ability to hold back and not give in to temptation.
Valor is courage and pride.
>>
>>30918956
We might be trying to keep the collateral damage down.
>>
>>30918871
Sure thing. Exalted are driven by 4 virtues. rated from 1-5. 1 being lower then normal 2 being normal and 5 being utterly absurd. They go something like.

Compassion=Compassion for other living beings and how hard it is to kill someone. At high enough levels you have a habit of forgiving foes who you really should just kill. At low levels you could sell your mom into slavery.

Valor-How brave you are. At high levels your more likely to go off when someone challenges you or do heroic/stupid shit. At low levels your a coward.

Temperance-How much you abstain from pleasures. High levels your a fucking monk and will tend to feel bad if you over indulge in something. Low levels you pretty much jump into over indulging.

Conviction-How steeled you are on your course and how much well conviction you have in what you are doing. High levels you will keep on going and going even when you really should stop or you don't need to anymore. Low levels your pretty weak willed.

>Actually, I think if we'd made the right choice we just would have noticed Garn's deception earlier. Tia would still have nearly been driven away, though we would have caught her before the second does of emotional damage from "us."

True.

Also a reminder: Your charms protect your body AND MIND from reality-altering ("shaping", in exalted lingo) powers like those of the Wyld and the Fae. But Lunar tattoos only protect the physical body unless they also have a charm protecting their mind as well.
>>
>>30919400

That's fine. I don't really have an issue with Garnet playing bullshit mind games.

My problem is more with how quickly people actually voted to start chewing out Tia over, y'know, protecting her goddamn waifu.

Remember their relationship dynamic? We're playing the waifu, not the dashing hero. And I doubt anyone who voted the dumb option would have blinked an eye at murdering Garnet for trying to get our waifu's soul if we were in the Hero's role.

>>
>>30919619
One of the 6 Lunars that has been Exalted since before the Usurpation, making him over 2,000 years old. He's also one of the worst victims of Wyld among the Lunars, his form is now permanently mutated, and his Motivation has shifted to "Destroy all civilization" because of Wyld-induced madness.
>>
>>30919697
>>30919729
Any chance he did some weird lunar mind whammy to Tia?
>>
>>30919565
Do you really think waifu is synonymous with submissive? If you do you're an idiot.

This is about archetypes. Imagine a hero waifus his queen. He's still taking orders, even if she's considered his waifu.

Tia fits the hero archetype because she's blunt, confronts problems directly and on her own strength, and makes every effort to be dashing and heroic to her lover. She's the proactive initiator in her relationship and her actions revolve around her desire to win her lover's favour. This does *NOT* make her the protagonist in lieu of Maka.

Maka has the waifu's role since she's far less proactive about their relationship. Instead of charging off the handle into whirlwind romance, she's communicating clearly, setting boundaries, and up until now, been a focus of purpose for Tia. This does not in any way divest her if her role as our protagonist.
>>
Rolled 3

>>30919565
...yeah, that's the Waifu. The hero coming to their rescue, dropping everything at a word... 'Waifu' doesn't mean 'slave,' mate.
>>
>>30919680
Though honestly I kind of view it as a mix in a way. Maka has most of the control but is pretty passive. While Tia is pretty husando and acts dashing and outgoing. But is really kind of under her in a way. Not only due to her being fucking nuts and thus easy to convince of anything but Maka being able to walk social circles around her makes it worse in a way.

It's kind of refreshing to see such a cute but kind of twisted relationship when you really start thinking on how it has worked so far.

He was originally one of the best Lunar socialites, so he most likely used some powers to make her not question his rape dungeons. Maybe that's why Tia is so autistic. Good thing that being a Solar psychotherapist is covered by a Zenith charm, maybe we can straighten her up with time.

He's also a completely, obviously insane bloodthirsty monster who suffers from a horrifying case of "I used to be so beautiful but now I'm a monster, everyone must suffer for this", but masks it, even to himself, under a layer of "I'm doing the right thing for the world", and is crazy enough to believe his own lies.

Worst part? he's held in extremely high regard in lunar society as a legendary hero whose word carries an enormous amount of political weight, even though everyone knows that he's bonkers and probably one of the greatest threats on Creation.

Add to this the fact that, to my knowledge, he doesn't have a PLAN on what to do exactly once he successfully eradicates civilization and reduces humanity to maybe a million individuals scattered across a severely underpopulated Creation, living in caves and tents and the shattered ruins of once-great cities.

And Tia's backstory, how she told it, implied that she "worked for him". Then betrayed him and his secrets so "someone" and has been on the run from him ever since.
>>
>>30919804
Shake off the control? Yes. But she sold him out to his enemies and unmade his plans.

Even without the intended effects there's still all of the aftereffects of whatever he did to her.
>>
>>30919766
That explains it. When I think waifu I think flat character with nothing but moe. You're thinking more heroic archetypes while I'm thinking a 40 year old neckbeard in his basement yelling about how good the waifu is.

Doesn't feel standard waifu to me. There is too much thought in this. The power dynamics are non-linear. There actually is fights here.

Now, what are the chances this "someone" was Raksi, another mad, ancient Lunar? Probably high.

You're basing that on the assumption that he'll ever actually leave the East.

Maybe some of his agents might have prsued her.

Extremely low. Raksi actively avoids Lunar society and doesn't give a flying fuck about Ma Ha Suchi. They don't even live within 1000 miles of each other.

Essence use (exalts in general) fucks with any sort of even slightly actionable intelligence sidereals might be able to gather.
>>

>>30920018
>astrology predicting our eventual Exaltation
That's not a thing that Sids can do for non-Sid exaltation. They specifically have a HARD AS FUCK time predicting ANYTHING regarding actual exalts. Every essence expenditure messes up Fate a bit, and the initial exaltation itself is always wholly unexpected.

If she bribed someone, it would have to be someone with access to Samsara itself - like that sleeping Yozi who, if he ever wakes up, will render free will nonexistent (even for the Primordials/Yozi) by virtue of knowing in perfect detail every last element of the future.
>>
>>30919926
Given how powerful Ma Ha is? I wouldn't be surprised if we had 2-3 fucking Lunars jump down on us one day like a ton of bricks.

>>30919960

Raksi in general doesn't really give much of a shit about Lunar politics. Or better said she does but hides it really well and plays people using it.. She is also quite fucking crazy even compared to Ma Ha Suchi.
>>
Rolled 4

>>30920085
>I wouldn't be surprised if we had 2-3 fucking Lunars jump down on us one day like a ton of bricks.
I would be. There are only 300 Lunars in the entire world, and some of them are unaligned/insane. It's considered a 'big fucking deal' in places where two Lunars work together to build a country - even Tammuz did it singlehandedly. The Three Rivers are a MASSIVE deal, for example.

I cannot emphasize enough how much major shit is concentrated in Tianna right now.
>>
>>30920062
>That's not a thing that Sids can do for non-Sid exaltation.

Oh they can do it. They do it for the realm all the time. It's just not very accurate they can get a general area sometimes with work but they can't get. "Go down to gem a solar is going to be born in a bar brawl 4 months from now."
>>
Rolled 4

>>30919884
IIRC - Ma-Ha-Rapist doesn't really let people find out about his magical realm, because he knows there'd be some serious repercussions.
Like, not even other Lunar would be down with that (Except probably Rakshi, she'd be down. maybe a little too down)
>>
>>30920062
Could have been a Sid who brought it up to their Maiden for the price of fucking over Ma-Ha-Psycho.
>>
Rolled 9

>>30920135
No, they really can't. They can only find out after the fact that something to do with a Solar unexpectedly went down somewhere.
>>
>>30920135
That's...even if the Sid had a great roll with a ton of hits they could maybe get something like "idk, maybe?"

It's never that precise...
>>
>>30920085
>Raksi in general doesn't really give much of a shit about Lunar politics. Or better said she does but hides it really well and plays people using it.. She is also quite fucking crazy even compared to Ma Ha Suchi.

For the non-Exalted-experts: Take everything we've just said about how crazy Ma-Ha is and multiply it by ten. That's about Raksi.

She looks like she's 16, lives alone except for her thousand-something ape-beastmen offspring (don't ask) in a tower where she's been studying sorcery for millennia, and feeds on a diet of human babies.
Not even kidding.

>>
>>30920119
All it would take is flexing a little political muscle. With young lunars during their met up it isn't like it takes too much more then. "Hey guys a lunar betrayed me I'll give you some favor if you find her."

Which is no where near as difficult as building a nation together. Would take a bit of power but I think he could do it. Just depends on how much damage that betrayal did.
>>
>>30920195
Sidereals have almost no direct influence over wyld hunts.

Most hunts are "my guys are cranky and need to vent by killing people who don't work for me, so let's take 'em inna'theater so they can shout charlie in the tree and throw fireballs and whatever"

any solar hunting is accidental, or reactionary. Never pro-active, since they don't have actionable intelligence
>>

Canonically (as if that matters) Ma-Ha-Suchi has "Several" young Lunars in his debt already, so yeah, he could probably sick one after us (Lunars really don't kill each other though, thats kinda a big part of the Silver Pact)
>>
>>30920263
Well, you don't break the toys you can't fix or replace...
>>
>>30920229
There are Sidereals in the upper eschelons of the All-Seeing Eye who successfully predict Solar Exaltations and then send the Wyld Hunt down on them like the fist of an angry god. The primary reason it doesn't always happen is A) There are way too many Solars all Exalting at once now and B) with the Empress gone, the Great Houses have way more actual influence and resources than the All-Seeing Eye, so they can't really afford to organize Wyld Hunts for every predicted new Exaltation.

I can start looking for specific quotes if you want.
>>
>>30920175
>with work but they can't get.

That's what I said anon. They can get a general idea just not something that precise.

>>30920180
Though with Raksi some of it may be exaggerated. Given 1E portrayals and how Geoff talked about her I've always went with the idea she is bugfuck but she is still smart enough to plan and is playing most people for fools when they assume the babby eating is all she is.

They would sooner kill a member than do that.

>>
>>30920328
Well Tia got some information telling her we would exalt in the area
>>
>>30920309
>>30920328
Here's one, though it's not spelled out the clearest. I will keep looking.
>Today, operations of the All-Seeing Eye in the Threshold are being spread ever thinner by uprisings and growing discontent, especially with the number of Anathema firebrands on the rise. Even the operation of the Wyld Hunt has decreased in efficiency, as the Eye’s Sidereal astrologers must turn their attention to the doings of the Great Houses, rather than the emergence of the Anathema. The Eye was once able to count on the malleability (some would say “faithful gullibility”) of the Immaculate Order to see that the Wyld Hunt ran smoothly on the Eye’s terms, but as the Time of Tumult grows more chaotic, more Realm citizens have sought refuge in religion. This new blush of panicked reliance on the church has increased the influence of the Immaculate Order, which now uses that influence to direct the Wyld Hunt more as it sees fit. It has grown ever more difficult for the All-Seeing Eye to steer the Wyld Hunt and make sure that it is being used and deployed properly.
From Compass: Blessed Isle for 2e.
>>
>>30920342
Silver pact's kinda all about autonimity and respecting each other's free will, so yeah, that's not really typical lunar on lunar behavior... wild sex orgies? sure, razing entire cities? totally, wild sex orgies that raze entire cities? why not.
But the whole captive/drugging thing? not something they'd really do to each other...
>>
>>30920365
>>30920376
Again: Ma-Ha-Suchi.
>>
Rolled 2

>>30920366
Right, and canonically, the only thing that could predict that is someone with access to Samsara.

>>30920371
Yes. They use astrology to locate already-exalted individuals. They can't do shit to actually predict Solar/Lunar exaltations. That's why you have to do something to blow your cover to get the Wyld Hunt on your ass, instead of having them already waiting for your exaltation in the area.
>>
Rolled 1

>>30920414
True. Ma Ha Suchi might keep her around simply to help breed more beastmen. He's shown time and time again that rape pens are the lynch pin of all of his plans.
>>
>>30920371
Found a better quote, from later on in the same book.
>THE WYLD HUNT
>Among its most dangerous and fearsome agents, the All-Seeing Eye also employs a surprisingly large number of astronomers and diviners who are dedicated to locating the reborn Anathema. Working closely with the diviners of the Immaculate Order (though usually on the sly or acting as a double-blind backup to those diviners), these agents of the Eye are the ones who call down the Wyld Hunt when signs indicate that an Anathema has reemerged into the world. Once the Eye is convinced that a new Anathema is destined to rise, the diviners work hard to provide their best estimate as to where the threat will do so. Agents, observers and informants are all then dispatched to the area that their results suggest, all of whom scour the local area at the Eye’s behest for the slightest hint of where the presaged Anathema will turn up.
There's one quote indicating that yes, they do indeed predict it ahead of time.
>>
>>30920415
Not done quoting yet, see >>30920430 and another one here.
>With fewer agents in the All-Seeing Eye’s employ these days, however, more Anathema are slipping away from even the best-trained Wyld Hunts. Even when the signs of the arrival of a new Anathema are noted, there is simply not enough manpower available for the Eye to see the abomination hunted down and slaughtered. Likewise, the sheer number of newly reborn Solar Exalted has shocked the overwhelmed Wyld Hunt. The Eye’s youngest and most zealous agents find this situation intolerable and have taken steps to establish a Wyld Hunt manned entirely by members of the All-Seeing Eye. Unlike the unmistakable, blazing display of power that a normal Wyld Hunt puts on, however, this nascent cult of Anathema-killers relies on the Eye’s favored techniques of stealth, cunning, ambush and assassination. As a result, it can field fewer agents per Hunt with the same expectations of success and expose them to less outright danger than a normal Wyld Hunt would face. In fact, the biggest challenge these assassins face in carrying out their work is beating the official Wyld Hunt to a target once a diviner warns of another Anathema’s imminent rise.
They know it'll happen ahead of time, and they know the general area where it'll happen, but they don't know all the specific details and they don't have the resources or manpower to send down a Wyld Hunt on every new Anathema.
>>
>>30920464
Also they don't always know ahead of time, because there are only so many Bronze Faction Astrologers in the All-Seeing eye and, as indicated in the first quote, more and more of them are having to predict the next big fuckup/political move by one of the Great Houses instead of when and where the next Anathema is going to Exalt.

So yes, they can predict it ahead of time, and yes, they did it pretty regularly and reliably before the breaking of the Jade Prison and the Empress' disappearance, but no, they're not absolutely going to predict and then actually manage to send a Wyld Hunt after every new Solar. They don't have enough Astrologers, they don't have enough resources, they don't have enough pull anymore without the Empress breathing down everyone's neck, and there are too damn many Solars all Exalting at once.
>>
>>30920426
>>30920414
