Quest runs from 10am, PST, until 2pm PST OR until interest peters out / I need to sleep.
Updates and Quest Times announced @3xFaster. https://twitter.com/3xFaster

The system:
http://pastebin.com/e3q4q0MP

Basic rules still apply: Roll d20: Highest dice roll out of the first three rolls is used for the Dice Check (DC), while all three rolls are averaged to determine other internal factors, if applicable. Natural 20’s and Critical Failures (1) supersede all other rolls made.
Roll d100: d100’s are used for different factors, the most applicable of which will be listed at the call for the roll. High is always better.
Rolling for Time: When asked to roll for time, the first roll response will be used, with additional rolls used as necessary. This is the only time low rolls are desired.
NewType powers, since they are plot breaking, will be based on a point system.
For every natural 20 you roll, you'll get .5 NTP. If you roll an 11 on a d20, it will be worth .25 of a NTP. Double rolls on a D100 will also garner .25 NTP.
You can exchange 1 NTP for an automatic critical success / plot breaking idea. You can also exchange 1 NTP to reduce an opposing main character's plot armor by 1/4 or 1/2 on any actions you take against them - the amount reduced will be situational, and depend on what you're planning on doing.

----------------------------------------------

Last time, on Bright Quest, Bright intervened in a strong argument that might have led Pamila Pheonix and Yazan Gable to engage in fisticuffs, and met Tenneth Jung.

And on Solomon, Naliss Zabi met with Dozle and Zenna to discuss negotiations with Side Six.

----------------------------------------------

Bright forced his mind off the dangerous young man he had spoken to and returned to the jeep. Pamila, sitting in the small rear seat with her arms crossed under her bust and looking rather displeased with the way events had unfolded, spared Bright a glance as he and Mohai approached and entered the vehicle. Her eyes snapped back on Mohai's headrest as Bright started the jeep's electric motor and resumed the trip back to the docking bay.

"So," Mohai said, continuing in an even tone Bright could not have matched at the moment, "Would you be so kind as to enlighten us on how that confrontation began?"

During the silence that followed that request, Bright spared a moment to glance at Pamila in the rear view mirror. She was frowning and stroking her chin in thought, rather than just sullenly glaring at one of the men, as Bright was half expecting. She finally spoke after putting her thoughts in order. "I was following up on a small lead, sir. One of the PFC's who arrived with the repair group at oh six hundred was attempting to impress me by stating he had ranked fifth of ten on the BX's training simulators. I was curious as to the nature of the simulator in question and arrived here to investigate at oh six thirty hours, after receiving permission from the officer on watch." Mohai nodded, acknowledging that she had followed proper protocol and should continue. "Upon arriving at the Base Exchange, I noticed a large section was devoted to four enclosed cockpit style machines, which had rather long ques for use. While I patiently waited to use a machine, I asked the crowed around me for advice on how to use them, trying to obtain as much information on the machines as possible."

"No one thought that was odd?" Bright asked as the jeep came to a stop, waiting in line for the next lift back to the military bay. There was a rustle of fabric behind him and the jeep moved on its suspension before Pamila appeared between them, her head resting on her fists. Her usual expression, something caught between boredom and amused arrogance, had been replaced with a nearly innocent, doe-eyed and slightly vacant look.

"But I'm just a cute lil' girl back from a long, long mission," she said in a high tone that still had a deeper, nearly seductive undertone to it. "Won't you please teach me? I'd be ever so grateful..."

Without even looking, Mohai turned slightly and smacked her on the head with the palm of his right hand, the movement oddly reminiscent of a great cat swatting an unruly cub. Pamila winced and ducked back into the rear seat, rubbing the pain out of her scalp. "You get the idea," she muttered.

"Yes. We do," said Mohai, disapproval evident in his tone. "Continue your report."

"Once inside a simulator, I ascertained it was functionally identical to our Zaku's onboard training sims, just with Balls and Saberfish instead of Zaku variants. I then proceeded to set a new top score on three mission sets. Afterwards, a message popped up denoting another trainee had challenged me for one on one combat. We did three matches of best of three, and I won two. Upon exiting the simulator, the blonde man you saw me with earlier approached me, asking if I had seen who had been in the machine. He did not want to believe it was me, even after I recounted parts of the simulated battle that had yet to be displayed on the screens set up to entertain those in queue. He was beginning to make a scene and I decided to return to base, but he caught me outside the BX and started belittling me." Pamila leaned into the seat and crossed her arms again. "I did not take his words well, and admit I acted in manner unbecoming of a soldier, which drew the attention of several others. That is when you arrived, sir, preventing me from maiming him for being an insufferable blight upon humanity."

"Interesting," Bright said as the lift doors opened and he pulled the jeep inside. "You think it was reverse-engineered from Zaku tech?"

"Or else as similar in function as to make no difference, sir, with the exception of selectable units," Pamila said.

"Too bad there isn't a good way to tell the difference," Mohai said softly to himself.

Bright eyed the younger woman in the rearview mirror again as the lift ascended as he asked, "Did anyone there 'ping' you?"

Mohai looked at Bright with a raised eyebrow as she considered the question. "There were several people with high scores on the leaderboards," Pamila said tapping her chin in thought. "But I only engaged the one in mock combat. He was good. I felt a vague sense of unease about the blonde fellow, and I do feel like the dark haired man that attempted to separate us before you arrived would be a major issue if encountered on the battlefield. He was watching the monitor screens from the diner, if I recall correctly."

"Unease?" Bright asked.

"Yes sir."

While Bright mulled that over, Mohai asked, "What about the training missions? Anything in particular they were prioritizing?"

"Fire control, aiming, and group tactics. There were several missions concentrating on defense of fleet assets over direct engagement with enemy forces," she replied. "Also, movement control. There was an entire set of missions in which the focus was avoiding enemy fire, though I did not run through those."

The lift came to a slow stop, and Bright carefully navigated the Jeep over to the parking lanes.

"Did anyone else catch your attention? Other than the people using the sims?" Bright asked.

She shook her head no. "I judged it too dangerous to 'actively hunt' while on this mission. If you wish, I can try and keep my 'eyes open', sir," she said, using air quotes.

Bright eyed the construction efforts focused on the prow of the Nero just as one of the techs fired off a plasma cutter. Blinking away the bright spot in his vision, he decided it might be best to procure a set of goggle, or sunglasses at the very least, before trying again. "Keep it passive, if you can," he said to Pamila. "I think you're right about keeping a low profile while we're here. But..." he hesitated for a moment, trying to put his thoughts into words.

"I understand sir," She said simply. "Permission to return to my duties?"

"Granted," Bright said.

As Pamila left for the ship, Mohai turned to Bright and asked "NewType stuff?"

He nodded. "NewType stuff."

"No wonder I'm confused. What's the plan?"

> Get your gear from the Nero (II), drop by the BX to stock your new pad.

"Since I'm going to need a pair of wielding goggles before I can watch what they're doing to the ship, I might as well grab my spare uniform and kit bag, then hit up the BX for toiletries and consumables for the house, I guess."

Mohai nodded. "I'll check in with the officer on watch, see if there's anything that needs immediate attention. I'll see what happens from there. See you around five?"

Bright nodded as they boarded the Nero, and the commandos offered them a salute. Returning the salute, Bright said, "Janet should be notifying both of us."

"Until then, Lieutenant. Keep out of trouble."

"Yes, sir," Bright said with a smile before heading to his stateroom. It was a matter of minutes to gather his gear, and he was off again, retrieving the jeep and returning down the lift to the BX.

The Base Exchange was less crowed than it had been earlier, with a few people using the simulators and a couple staff sergeants minding the counters. as Pamila had mentioned, there was a small diner set in an area off to the left of the simulators, offering a view of the monitors which displayed matches and missions from prior simulations, and a fair selection of uniform, casual clothing, electronics, and a grocery section. Bright quickly made his way towards the uniform section, snagging a new set of boots and another set of trousers before eyeing the casual clothes on display. It might be nice to grab something to wear while visiting Sayla that wasn't an EFF uniform. The electronics section caught his eye as well, offering a few dedicated game consoles and some BDR movies at discount.

First things first, he thought, and quickly grabbed enough food to prepare meals for a few days.

Picking out a light cream-colored button up and a red tie along with some black slacks, Bright also grabbed the darkest set of sunglasses he could find at the counter. He paid for his purchased using his eTab account, and entered the diner to watch a few of the matches on display. A waiter came by to take his order, and he kept it simple with a soft drink and a light salad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=WHN7wYeMRdA#t=30

As he ate, he watched one of the current pilots dashing around like a madman, using his ball's 180mm ammunition in a single salvo which failed to distroy the Musai he had been aiming at. Afterwards the hapless pilot dashed around, trying to strike at Zaku's before getting a reload and wasting it on the Musai again.

'Idiot,' Bright thought to himself. 'With that limited armament, it would be better to go for the Bridge or an engine nacelle, not try and penetrate the armor above the fuel reservoir behind the Kommusai.'

Finishing his meal, he wandered over to one of the free machines, poking his head inside. The layout looked like a cross between a fighter's cockpit and an RB-79.

> Rolled 𝟏𝟗

Bright entered the simulator and adjusted the seat wondering why, if there were only four machines, his was labeled #5. He slipped his Feddie ID card into the reader and browsed the mission selection list, and decided it would be in his best interest to run through the tutorial first - he hadn't used a ball since his days on Texas colony, and these military refits might hold some unwelcome surprises.

He was right. Halfway through the weapon control tutorial, he found the 'recoiless' 180mm gun could not only be rotated on the pintel mount, but could also be pulled back. The program stated this was to aid in automated reloading when docked with a Salamis or a Magellan, but he filed it away in case he could find another use for it later.

The thrusters on the RB-79 Balls were also far more powerful than the old SP-W03 Mobile Pods he had used in his youth. As he went through the tutorial, he recalled those days, taking part-time exo-jobs because the pay was higher than rustling the steers on Roger's ranch. Higher risk, the administrator had argued. Personally, he and Char had both thought going EVA was less dangerous than wrangling a mad longhorn.

He had a lot of good memories from those days, along with a few bad ones. Like the day the letter arrived, when Jimba Ral had explained why Edward and his sister had been placed under the care of Don Teabolo Mass, what he suspected about Zeon Daikun's death, and that he had discovered Kycilia Zabi was looking for Casval Daikun. The day Char left for ESCDATA and he had stayed behind, unable to fulfill his promise of going with his friend because he was afraid Kycilia knew his real identity and unsure what she wanted with him. The day he had wired his hard earned money to a young man in Hong Kong who was willing to trade his name and personal records for the chance to enroll in the EFF's Fleet Academy at Side 1.

The day he left Texas as Bright Noah, hoping his dye job and colored contacts would be enough to escape Kycilia's notice.

Bright slammed the controls of the simulator around, moving the Ball unit violently as he let the machine absorb the frustration he felt over the situation with Jane. He had thought Kycilia had given up after years of futile searching. That Jane had orders concerning Casvel Daikun had come as a shock, one he had needed to suppress in order to mislead her. He fired upon Musai and Zaku alike, seeing nothing beyond his memories of a woman with a cold gaze and fiery red hair. His weapon empty, he used the rifle's barrel to smash aside another Zaku unit, grabbing the 120mm machine gun in the Ball's crude manipulator and operating the trigger with the lower arm as he ruminated on the alluring blonde spy he could not help but feel attracted too. As the clip of the machine gun ran empty, he threw it aside, staring silently at the blossoming explosions his efforts had yielded, his mind focused on the friends and subordinates he had pulled into this mission, and the potential consequences should he fail them.

Bright leaned back into the seat as the display began to evaluate and score his performance, feeling tired but less stressed over the situation than he had before. It was still dangerous, and any number of things could cause the mission to fail, but he felt more in control of himself than he had in the past few days. Being in control of yourself was key to being in control of your situation, Jimba Ral would have said.

Bright leaned forward as the machine announced his high score as ranking first place, topping what appeared to be Pamila's score by 400 points.

Bright's not one to brag. Besides, it's not like he's looking to leave his command role anytime soon. He doesn't care what his score in the simulators is. Though it is somewhat gratifying to see that even in a universe where he didn't become the Red Comet, Casval Rem Daikun is still a damn fine pilot.

Bright idly contemplated the mission list as the scoreboard faded from view, feeling pretty good about himself. Granted, it was just a trumped up video game, but it was nice to know he still had something on the younger generation. Experience was not to be discounted yet, it seemed.

--------------------------------------------------------
MEANWHILE, IN THE EFF MS PILOT TRAINING FACILITY
--------------------------------------------------------

Yazan and Tenneth were taking a break from their MS simulations, sipping on sports drinks and watching the monitor that connected to the BX sims, which was usually good for a laugh as the non-MS rated Joes tried and failed the various missions in new and inventive ways.

Not today, however. "Who the FUCK is in that Ball?" Yazan snapped, crushing his can of Powerthirst. "That's the second time today some jackass has beaten my fucking score!"

"And the first one was but a wee slip of a lass," Tenneth said in a horrible Irish accent. Said crushed can proceeded to impact against Tenneth's purple hair at 40 KpH. "Jesus, fuck, Yazan! The hell!"

"I refuse to believe I was beaten by that red haired, mismatched bitch," Yazan snarled back.

"Christ, man, I get it. Lay off," Tenneth said, rubbing the pain out. "Looks like it's some Lieutenant named Mass. Do a Go-" he stopped, his eyes narrowing in recollection. "Wait, that's the Special Forces guy we met earlier."

"The who and the what now?"

Tenneth rolled his eyes. "The guy who kept you from tearing into the 'red haired, mismatch bitch'. Remember?"

"That's the Yuppie?" Yazan said, whirling around to watch the screen again as Tenneth mouthed the word 'yuppie' to himself, looking bewildered. "I'm gonna perforate him!"

As Yazan made a leap for the simulators, Tenneth made no move to stop him, instead offering only token resistance as he settled into the simulator labeled 01. "No. Stop. Wait. You can't."

"Can't what?"

"Can't sortie without me. I haven't had a challenge in a while," Tenneth replied.

"Pfft. Your own damn fault you got banned from the simulators in the BX," Yazan said. "I told you to hold back. You killed everything on map - including your team mates - and had the high score for it for three weeks straight until they reset the damn machines."

Tenneth shrugged as he selected the MS-06S he was rated to use. "Says the man who shouts about breaking stuff every five minutes. Not my fault that I'm good with a long gun. And Smitty shouldn't have said that about my mother."

"Tenneth. Shut up, and shoot people." Yazan said, adding two heat hawks and a boxer shield to his MS-05.

"Yeah, yeah."

----------------------------------------------------

Bright's screen went black, followed by a flashing red warning banner. A voice came over the cockpit speakers, shouting, "You have been challenged! Two enemy aces detected in Field N! All available units - move out!"

"Huh," Bright said to himself as the screen resolved into a star field with Solomon in the background, "That's new." He quickly took stock of the situation. A Salamis was to his rear, probably to provide repair and rearmament. Further a field, twin blue flares denoted the rough location of his opponents.

> Rolled 𝟐𝟎

Bright quickly brought the Ball up to full speed, holding the thrust at maximum for a few seconds before taking a page from Lourie's book and cutting the thrust entirely. He took his hands off the controls, content to coast at speed as he focused his attentions on the controls for the recoilless rifle, slaving the pintle mount to the movement controls and locking the recoil dampener in place. With that done, he waited.

After a few minutes, the two Zaku's had split up, with one lagging behind and MS-05 that looked ready for melee. Reasoning the second unit was set up for sniping, Bright calmly waited until his Ball had coasted far enough to get a clean shot at his target: the joint in the armor between the hip servo and the reactor firewall, normally blocked by a Zaku's high speed movement and the skirt armor. Bright exploited the sniper's lack of movement and took the shot.

The recoil from the 180mm spun his ball unit down and back, away from the explosion that followed a moment later. Bright smiled to himself as he imagined the pilot's reaction, before remembering where he was. "How the hell do you assholes have Zaku's?" Bright asked over the comms as he unlocked his movement controls and re-centered the 180mm.

A wordless snarl was the only response as the MS-05 returned to the area at top speed and proceeded to swing wildly at his Ball. Deftly maneuvering out of the path of each swing with his attitude thrusters, Bright caught the last swing of the Zaku's heat hawk in his left manipulator set. The other pilot screamed something about perforation as he swung the boxer shield in to bash the Ball's cockpit, but Bright swung around on the left manipulator's AMBAC function, letting the swing pass harmlessly under the bottom thruster before catching it in the right manipulator set and locking the Zaku I down.

Bright pulled the 180mm back to the 'reloading' position, the shortened barrel sweeping past the Zaku's snout as the Ball pivoted on the AMBAC bearings again, stopping only after the tip of the cannon bounced off the armor plating of the cockpit hatch. He hit the release for the manipulators and the firing stud at the same time.

The resulting explosion still tore the arms off the ball, damaged the frontal armor, and ruptured a fuel tank. As bright limped the wounded unit back to the Salamis, he heard a man ask over the Comms, "Who ARE you?"

"Lieutenant Edward Mass, U.N. Spacey - Special Forces, HUNT Division," Bright replied professionally. "It's been a pleasure gentlemen. Perhaps you'll have better luck next time."

------------------------------------------

Yazan beat his console in frustration. "Fuck! The fuck was that? The fuck were you?"

"Shot down," Tenneth said slowly, his voice low and strained.

"Why didn't you see him?"

"I did see him, Yazan," Tenneth said in that same dangerous tone, his voice rising with each word until he was shouting at his fellow trainee, "I saw him Right After He Shot Me!"

"Yeah?" Yazan said, sounding subdued.

"Yeah."

"Then maybe you should get a haircut, so you can see what's in front of your god damned face, before you get it blown off!" Yazan snarled back, grabbing his towel from the headrest and stalking off towards the changing room.

Tenneth ran a hand through his purple hair, looking sour.

------------------------------------------

Bright exited the simulator to a small cheer as the ten or so onlookers congratulated him on his victory. From the handshakes and claps on the back he received, he got the feeling that while neither of the pilots that had challenged him were well liked, they were respected for being neigh impossible opponents.

Bright gathered his purchased and checked his eTab for the time. As it was only 1540 hours, he still had an hour and change to kill before he was contacted by Jane to meet with Ramba Ral. Exiting the BX and returning to 599 Ironwood Circle, he entered his temporary home and began putting the groceries into the fridge.

Finished, he wondered what he should do to kill the time.

Right-O. The 81 & the Auto-Success yield you advantage over the sister unit. The 55 is now a Cafe, the 34 a dive bar, and the HS Inn.

I'm going for a smoke, and then I'll be writing.

Questions for you all while I'm out:
>Who's your favorite character in Bright Quest so far, beyond Bright himself?
>If you could get 1 free fan-art of any Bright Quest Scene, which would you choose?
>How much char would the Real Char char, if a Real Char Could char char?

And any questions / critiques for me, the OP? I'll answer them.
>>
>>30853412
>Who's your favorite character in Bright Quest so far, beyond Bright himself?
I'm a sucker for any depiction of Dozle as a big friendly goof who just happens to be a ruthless military commander. By the same token, Mohai is also a particular favorite in this quest. I like the gentle giant archetype.

>If you could get 1 free fan-art of any Bright Quest Scene, which would you choose?
Probably one of the action scenes with the Zudahs. I always liked their design, and to have non-exploding models is pretty great. I guess the Zudah Triple going at full burn, pulling an entire cruiser while somehow not self-destructing would be the one I'd choose.

>How much char would the Real Char char, if a Real Char Could char char?
All the char. He's a professional charcoal burner. That's why he wears the mask, to protect his eyes from the smoke.

More seriously, though, why does Real Char wear the mask? In canon Casval claimed he wore the mask because of scarring that he was self-conscious about. Is that genuine in Real Char's case?

>Locations: [81], 55, 34
>Recollections: [15 - Auto Success]

It took him a little while, but as he pulled off the bridge and into the shopping plaza on Blade 2, he spotted the marquee for a cinema. As he pulled close enough to read the display, ('Karate Bugmen Marathon - All Bugmen, All The Show Times - One Week Only'), he parked in the cinema parking lot as the memories washed over him.

Sayla, about seven, with her fists in a fighting pose, shouting about how she could be a Karate Fightan' Bugman too. He insisting Bugmen were men, and she shouting back that Bugmen were Justice. Which was fair, he had supposed at the time. But they couldn't both be Bugmen, because who would be the bad guy? And the Bugman didn't get a fellow warrior of insectile justice until at least the second season. Sayla had gotten that look in her eye that he knew meant either trouble, business, or more likely both, and had dashed off towards the mansion.

The next day, Sayla had drug him outside by the hand to a small pile of cardboard. 'I'm the Karate Fightan' Bugman,' she had said sternly before pointing to the cardboard pile, 'And you're my alien robot buddy'. And out from the bushes, the children of the house staff came out, dressed in various costumes. 'And they're the minions of the Chaos Masters Of Elsewhere !'

And so Masked Fighter Sheriff Sister and Robo-Mecha Forcelord (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, and Sigma - the cardboard broke on occasion, letting him 'upgrade') had been chronicled in crayon pictures tacked to the fridge and badly written dairy entries for years to come.

Bright shook his head, a smile born of nostalgia playing at his lips. He'd almost forgotten that. He let go of the wheel, and brought his hand out in a fake Kung Fu pose before spinning both hands in a circle before holding his arms out to the side, palms up. "Mechanize Henshin," he whispered, before laughing softly.

Bright hopped out of the jeep and entered the lobby, purchasing two all day passes for tomorrow. He didn't know if Sayla was still a Rider fan, but he knew she'd be touched he remembered Sheriff Sister and Forcelord.

As he left the theatre, Bright spotted a small cafe that might serve as a good location for lunch that was within walking distance of the theatre. As he traveled further out, shops became less frequent, making way for housing until even the suburbs petered out into the dull brown emptiness of the uncompleted section of the colony, with the construction wall looming high above. Bright slowed to a stop, before squinting. Something was out there. Curious, he drove on, until he was at the construction wall. There, in the lee of the wall and a lump of raw asteroid, was a small bar that appeared to be made of 'misappropriated' iron sheet and mooncrete. It was plain, and dull, and probably serviced the workers who had been in the process of constructing the colony before the war broke out. Spray painted on the construction wall above the roof were the words 'Cafe of Broken Dreams'. Oddly, the single window facing the dirt road had an open sign propped against it, and a wash of color and light every now and again hinted at a TV being on inside.

Not a place to take his sister, that was for sure. Odd curiosity, though. Bright put the jeep in reverse and headed back into town, keeping an eye on the clock. 1633. He ought to return to the house by five at this rate.

It is to the sounds of sparking electrics and red warning lights that Captain Brutus Sharp slowly regains conciousness.
After escaping Solomon in a stolen Komusai, He found that the shuttle was in the midst of repairs as it was lacking several key components, the most worrysome being the Oxygen Scrubbers and Communications Systems. He had decided to risk heading to where the Zeon unit his forces encountered were skulking around in hopes that they left some of the wrecks even partially pressurised, so that he could get the necessary parts to either repair the Komusai or, preferably, find an old EFF fighter or Ball so he could get to Side 1 and deliver his report.
Taking stock of his surroundings, it seems his 'Emergency Docking' with the Bridge of the Magellan wreck was a success in so far as he was alive and there was atmosphere in both the Komusai and the Magellan's Bridge.
It was going to take some work, and probably more than one salvage op, but he was confident in his training and experience to get the job done...

>>
>>30858489

Well, things are better and worse than I thought. Nearly all of the electrics in the Komusai are dead and will need replacing. There is a rather large hole where part of the Bridge's reinforcing beams cut it open like a tin can. Most of the internal components are missing. But on the plus side, It has fuel and the engine still work...
Probably better to use it for parts rather than repairing it... Tomorrow I'll start searching the ship.

Fun fact; I ran the escape as a One shot a few months ago... He almost didn't escape...

As Bright pulled onto his street, he spotted Jane leaning against her jeep on the street in front of his driveway. As he came to a stop, she pulled herself off the jeep and slid into his vehicle's passenger seat, angling her eTab to show him the map it displayed. "We need to take the panel bridge to Blade-3, and head into the warehousing district."

"Sounds like Ral," Bright said, pulling back into the traffic lane. "Keep your base of operations and your front in two separate locations, keep your front clean, and your base secure."

"He seems to have gone a bit out of his way this time," Jane said.

"If it didn't give him a perceived advantage, he wouldn't have chosen that location," Bright said, pulling onto the bridge.

"Fair enough," Jane said. "You seem to be in a better mood."

"Blew off some steam in the BX simulators," Bright returned with a smirk.

"Ah, yes; video games. Of course that would do it," Jane said, rolling her eyes at him. "Just try not to show off too much, we don't want anyone to question where your superior piloting abilities stem from."

"To be fair, I only used them after Pamila did."

Jane winced at the news. "Oh god, now her fake ID is going to be in the top ten for months. We really don't need that kind of scrutiny right now."

"Well... I did manage to beat her score, so technically I'm in the top slot. For now, anyway," Bright said, thinking of the two people who had challenged him. "Those sims in the BX are linked to additional units somewhere else, and those have access to Zaku variants."

"They're probably in whatever passes for the EFF pilot training facility. Fight against each other unless someone in the BX is doing well, and then fight them," Jane said, eyeing the buildings of the industrial sector as they passed through.

Bright held his hand out towards Jane, and she handed him her eTab.

He checked the directions again, then handed back, making a turn down a side street before coming to a stop in front of a large warehouse made of corrugated sheet steel. Bright's freshly remembered Karate Bugman instincts twitched. This location would have fit right in as a set for a Toku show. All it needed was someone on a motorcycle to come crashing through the side of the wall.

He remained in the jeep as Jane stepped out, ears straining to discern the tortured cry of a V-twin turbo about to make a stunt jump.

Jane reached to door, and turned to face him. "Are you coming?"

Vaguely disappointed, Bright got out of the jeep and jogged up to where she was holding the door for him, and they both slipped inside. The interior of the warehouse was dark, small streamers of the late afternoon sunlight filtering through small holes in the sides ad roof their only illumination, until Jane turned her eTab's torch option on. A small puddle of light caught the edges of boxes, dusty from disuse, labeled with cryptic alphanumerical codes that meant nothing to them.

"You sure we have the right address?" Bright said. Before Jane could reply, a halogen light came on above them, and Bright raised his arm against it in reflex at the sudden wash of light. The familiar and unwelcome sound of several assault rifles being primed and lowered into the ready position filled the air, and Bright immediately raised his other hand into the air. "Don't shoot! We have an appointment!"

"Oh ho! If it isn't Bright Noah!" a deep voice boomed from the darkness. "I was worried there for a minute, as I'm sure I told miss 'Janet' there to come alone. Cozun, Acous, Clamp, stand down! And get the lights on!"

At that last order, the lights came back up, showing several men crouching and laying prone atop boxes stacked in large storage isles that filled the building. Thankfully, the men had either come to relaxed positions with their weapons or set them aside entirely.

Bright's thoughts on the matter were interrupted as Ramba Ral came into view, arms spread and grinning. The two men embraced, clapping each other on the back. "Nearly didn't recognize you with the hair job, my boy! And what this? Colored contacts? Going all in on this disguise bit, aren't we?"

"You know how it is. Learned it from your old man, after all," Bright said, pulling away.

"Too right," Ramba said, still grinning. "So, what brings you to side seven, little brother? This Feddie MS project, I imagine? Thought they were giving it to Char as a PR stunt."

"Dozle Zabi asked me to join the OP, thought my 'insights' might be an asset."

"Considering what he's managed to accomplish before arriving at the main objective, I'd say it was a wise call," Jane said from the side.

"I heard. Something about an additional Fed MS program on Riah, with Char being diverted there to counter an EFF task force aiming to seize the colony it was on," Ramba said gravely.

"They what?" Bright asked in disbelief.

"Sent in two Magellan's and a fair number of Salamis' to either retake their project or steal the colony it was on," Ramba repeated. "Char apparently engaged the diversionary force while incoming re-enforcements from Pezun held off the main assault until he could join them."

"Oh, I knew about the engagement," Bright clarified for him, "I didn't know the EFF had demanded the colony."

"Not just the one, either. They wanted Libot, Ulster and... Finnegan, I believe it was, transferred to Side Two as ransom."

"Idiots," Bright muttered, seeing Jane nod her head in agreement.

"It's the same over confident, heavy handed tactic we saw with the embargo on food and water," Jane said. "I image Riah's president is going to push hard for MS development, which means going in deeper with us."

Bright turned to Jane and raised an eyebrow. She just shrugged and walked along after Ramba, and bright hurried to follow suit as the older man continued talking, taking no notice of their delay.

"For coming into MS development this late in the game, the Feds have certainly created a monster," he continued, "Some kind of composite armor designed to resist one twenty shells, laser swords, and a rifle that packs the punch of a battleship cannon in a smaller, portable package. Still trying to figure that one out, but I'm no scientist. Here, here," Ramba said, opening a door to the warehouse manager's room. "They've also got this dopy looking tank thing, and another suit which seems to be a copy of our Zaku and Dom-Cannon lines, except it has a cannon on each shoulder. Ah, here," Ramba said, removing a remote from his pocket. He pressed a button and a screen slid down from the ceiling of the immaculately kept office space, and a hidden projector unit hummed to life, showing a video of the Feddie MS' in action.

We've got them upgrading our captured Salamis into a MS carrier. Its troubling that they have a design all ready to go, but if we can steal it we'll be able to repurpose the various Salamis wrecks we have into effective fleet units. Or we can just sell the design to Riah and they can turn the wrecks of the fleet that attacked them into their own forces.

"This explains what that Rey fellow meant about 'Salamis Refit'," Bright said, mostly to himself. Unsurprisingly, Ramba heard him.

"Rey? Tem Rey, you mean?" As Bright nodded an affirmative, Ramba continued, "He's the mobile suit development project lead - that's right, I did see him talk to you.
Best to avoid that one, he's a wily bastard."

"You were there?" Jane asked.

"Access corridor that links the military hangar to the civ hangers, I cracked the code for them a while back, Bird's eye view of the whole hangar." Ramba said dismissively.

"It's a little odd they had a Salamis refit just waiting and ready to go," Bright remarked. "Usually that kind of thing takes time."

"Parallel development, and you need to consider the ships the Feds already have," Ramba explained. "While they're plenty willing to throw ungodly amounts of money and resources at a project to get it kicking quickly, afterwards they'll need to field it in as little time as possible. They've undoubtedly built something to counter our Musai and Chivvy designs, but they'll want to reuse everything they can, if only to repair damaged MS in case they lose a carrier ship."

"Can we get the plans for that?" Bright asked.

"I haven't seen anything other than Magellan's and Salamis' dock here, dropping off materials and personnel. But if you mean the refit plans for the Salamis, they ought to upload them into your ship's database so it can be repaired at a different facility," Ramba said. "Who'd you steal a working Salamis from, anyway?"

"Salvaged it from derelicts at Loum, along with the newer computers from the assault team's Salamis that tried to sink us there," Bright answered.

"You were lucky to have found one in decent shape."

"The crew probably abandoned ship thinking the shot through the torpedo bay would cook off the remaining warheads," Jane said. "So, anything particularly special about the location of this warehouse?"

"But where can a blimp loaded down with a mobile suit safely dock?" Jane asked.

"Same place it loaded an MS - somewhere with Zero G," Bright said.

"That's right. And the only other place for a dock is?"

"Behind the construction wall," Jane finished for Ramba.

Ramba nodded in approval, pressing another button on his remote. The projector displayed a new image, this time of rough rocky terrain filled with moderately tall trees, the same as in the MS footage he has shown them earlier. "Exactly so. The area back there is five miles of nearly finished colony, with the exception of the North Bay block. They've blocked off the panel windows and use artificial lighting for their testing, turning them off for night ops."

Bright leaned forward. "Any way to get inside their facility?"

Ramba raised an eyebrow. "Yes. There are a few ways in. Most of them are studded with motion, IR, and pressure sensors, however. The safest way is to go EVA and sneak in through the unfinished access corridors - that's how Clamp and I got the footage, during their test runs. Why?"

"I have a small group of technicians and Zaku pilots lead by Felix Ceff who were invited in by Tem Ray to work on the Zudah, and I have orders to steal as much of their development plans as I can get my hands on," Bright said.

Ramba whistled. "That's a tall order - especially if you want to add those prototypes in. The Feds here don't respect the Civs much, but they're trying not to disrupt them too badly because they serve as a decent cover to prevent an all out military strike on the colony. Once you get past that construction wall, however, it's like Jaburo-lite. What's your force composition like?"

"Two twelve man squads of commandos, one trained in heavy armor, one in demolitions, two tanks-"

"You snuck tanks in here?" Ramba exclaimed, cutting Jane off.

"Currently in the military hangar bay, disguised as load lifting equipment," she said, "May I continue?" Ramba apologized, and she did so. "One Musai Final type 'Siegfried', with three Zaku's and four experimental Zudah units, one experimental Zudah currently in the R&D facility, presumably being torn down in a manner that can be reversed quickly by Ceff; and when he arrives, Char Aznable's 'Falmel', one additional commando team, and six Zaku units can be called upon for further support."

Ramba stroked his chin in thought. "That's a small army right there. Do I even want to know how the 'Siegfried' holds that may units, or will saying 'It's Ceff's fault' pretty much fill me in?"

"It's Ceff's fault. It has an additional hangar tailored for the Zudahs running along the dorsal above the fuel tank, below the MPC's," Bright said.

"Huh. Must be a damn sight bigger than a regular Musai," Ramba muttered.

"We also wanted to ask you about an anti-fed group here on the colony, and if you thought they could be any use to our goals," Jane said.

Ramba grunted. "They call themselves the 'Side Seven Liberation Front', tried to recruit me shortly after I got here. I refused and looked into them - I didn't want a group of armatures blowing my cover, you understand. It's a definite grass roots movement, led by a fellow named 'Maru Kobayashi' and a few others key persons, John Hiemdall, Franz Bow, Tabitha White, and an EFF officer named Matthew Quinley. They have about fifty full time supporters that I can pin down, and a hundred people who regularly attend their meetings. Their newsletter, the 'Greenzone Voice', is on the local net, and the Feds have shown no interest in trying to take it down." Ramba shrugged. "It's more a loose coalition of neighbors disgruntled that the Feds moved in and kicked them out of their homes than anything else."

"They were asking me to help provide proof of the goings on in the Fed R&D facility, saying they would release it to the public in an effort to garner support to have the EFF forces moved to a military installation instead, like Luna Two," Bright said.

"Oh heavens, the unwashed masses have discovered our giant robot. What ever will we do?" Ramba said in an openly mocking tone. "With John Andersen in charge? The only thing he'll care about is if Zeeks start pouring in from the woodwork so he can command the kind of valiant battle that'll get him reassigned to the Earth front. Which wouldn't happen anyway - the man's a drunken lout, and everyone knows it but him."

Bright took a seat on the edge of a nearby counter and considered that.

Like Ramba said, we don't want the amateurs fucking up our operation, so we probably shouldn't try to use them.

Actually, ask Ramba about that bar we saw, the Cafe of Broken Dreams.
See if he's got anyone working there.

What we need to do is coordinate with Ramba and his team on when we can have something happen (industrial accident, civilian protest, well-timed murder) that will let us get into the facility so that we can have the Zudah start destroying stuff as we steal the Gundam.

Agreed. We need pre-attack reconnaissance though. Most importantly, we need the locations of the command center, the machines themselves, and the pilot barracks. After all, the only things that can stop us are the mobile suits themselves, and we don't want to waste any time looking for them. Oh, and either us or our captain should go over to whichever the appropriate Feddie is to formally report that some of our guys have been cautiously approached by what seems to be a civilian underground. Help deflect some suspicion from us.

>Tanks. They do have tanks.

>Okay, I'm tapped out for the day, so I'll call the thread here.

>Next thread we'll ask Ramba:
>About the Cafe of Broken Dreams
>Coordinating an assault plan.
>Getting firm locations of the command center, MS hangars and Pilot's Barracks.
>Should we try turning in the S7LF as a diversionary tactic.

>If anyone else has additional suggestions, feel free to post or tweet them to me @3xFaster.

>Thanks for joining me in my silly game of Giant Robots! Have a good day, everyone!

That's not how Gundam works

Well obviously it has to be a BuCUE tank for it to beat a Gundam!
