You growl a choice insult at your Incubator, not bothering to try and conceal it under your breath. It's not like he wouldn't hear anyway, with those ears of his. Even if he didn't, he always had that mind-reading thing he always swore he never, ever used, but you always suspected he did when it was convenient.

"Now, now. No need to resort to such language, Matsuda." Kyuubey looks slightly offended here, despite its facial features not changing from its perennially-curious look. "It may surprise you to discover that I do this sort of thing for valid reasons, and not simply to spite or anger you."

That's debatable, you think, before sullenly turning back to your pancakes. Continuing to tear into your breakfast with a deathrow inmate's gusto, fork and knife gripped in stabbing grips.

Ever since you've become Warmaster, the mutant cat bastard's behavior has been...admirable at best, and barely tolerable at the worst. As such, what poisonous, bilious spite that had made you curse and grit your teeth at the very sight of him had mellowed to simple annoyance, the times in which you'd almost pulled a gun on him becoming few and far between. But this honest, almost casual confession at deception threatened to bring it all back in a caustic flood.
>>
>>30848483

But only just. It's not enough, not yet. As much as it rankled you, he did have a point. He's already told you how valuable a Witch Core is, valuable enough that it's almost understandable that he'd risk going war with another Officio for it. You forced yourself to see through his perspective, his cold, businesslike rationale at such decisions. It made sense, in a watch-wearing dildo kind of way. He made sense. Even though it pissed you off.

You don't think he knows about what Braids had told you earlier, either. So you doubt it's...to fuck with your Equerry or something. Unless he was, in which case you'd certainly pull a gun on him then.

You savagely chew on a mouthful of syrup-soaked pancake, down it with a glass of iced water, before growling out a single word at Kyuubey.

"Why?"

The furry white bastard blinks his bright red eyes at you, scarlet marbles buried in soft white snow, before nodding. "Consider it a final test of sorts, Matsuda, before I officially ratify you as Warmaster. I wanted to see how you'd conduct yourself during a mission with a simple, direct objective from an unknown client. I wanted to see if you'd...slack off and not take it all that seriously, in contrast to the Kirishima Ruri mission, where I imposed upon you countless times that it was important for us to succeed."

He pauses for a moment. "Granted, your execution of it was a bit rough, but..." He nods to the box. "You brought Miki Sayaka and Sakura Kyoko alive and safe, along with the main objective, and you showed a rival Officio of ours a taste of what we're capable of. Very professionally, if I may add."

A test, huh...? So did you pass, or what?

Kyuubey meets your glare with a mellow one of his own, his expression turning into a familiarly-smug one.

[1/2]
>>
>>30848489

"You passed, of course. Just as I expected you to." He makes a pleased noise here. "I should listen to Tomoe Mami more often, I must admit. Her decisions regarding you, while seeming ill-advised at first, has proven to be quite accurate and beneficial to the Officio." The incubator's expression ratches up a bit more on the smug meter. "I am still receiving commendations from my brethren regarding the Kirishima Ruri mission. Apparently, Miss Kirishima has always been a difficult one for them to handle."

Really? Well. That was a bitch of a mission, so you're not surprised.

...Wait. He's changing the subject! The little bastard's changing the subject! You want to know more about this Witch Core, dammit!

"...Nothing escapes you, I see." Kyuubey makes a chuckling sound. "Very well, Matsuda. Ask, and I'll try to answer as best I could." It's here that a skull, bleached a gleaming white and its teeth encrusted in gold, appears beside your Incubator, manifested there through one of his light portals.

"Hino Setsuna sends her most profuse regards, by the way. She is reunited with Squad Taiho, and sends a gift of appreciation." He glances at the skull with some distaste, before turning back to you. "Well? Anything you wish to now about the Witch Core, Matsuda, or would you like to move on to more important matters? You do have a few things on your itinerary that I've taken the liberty of adding that needs to be taken care of as soon as you can."

[]Ask about the Witch Core. What is he going to do with it?
[]Put aside the Witch Core for now, and ask about your itinerary. Might as well get it over with.
[]Ask about Midori. Where is she? Why isn't she here to welcome you home...?

You glare at the bleached skull briefly before continuing to slaughter and massacre your breakfast, vehemently refusing to let the macabre trophy ruin your appetite. While you're pleased to hear that Hino Setsuna had come back from her revenge assignment in one piece and reunited with her squad, you'll have to do something about people thinking that you'd like skulls as gifts too. You're not Kharn, for fuck's sake.

Chasing down another mouthful of pancake with a hearty gulp of ice water, it's here that you ask Kyuubey about the Witch Core. Specifically, what the hell is he going to do with it? And you assume this isn't the first one he's found?

There's a moment of silence as your Incubator seems to decide whether or not to tell you, before he replies. "...For safe keeping, Matsuda, to be used only when it is absolutely necessary. A weapon such as this is most effective when it's concealed until the last possible moment, for the killing thrust." He nods. "As I've said, only a select few of the Officios CAN harvest Witch Cores - fewer know they actually exist. I doubt the Sixteenth even knew what they were guarding, only that they were asked to guard it."

Another brief hesitation. "And yes, you are correct in your assumptions. This is not the first and only Witch Core in our possession. We have another one, earned a few years ago, and its price was..." Kyuubey trails off into silence here, before shaking his head. "...too high a price, even with the utility it's provided us now."

You'd ask to know more here, but you sense that he's not up to talking about it at the moment.

So instead, you ask something that you've been meaning to ask ever since you stepped through his office doors.

Where's Midori? Why wasn't she around to welcome you home?

[1/2]
>>
>>30848878

"You're going to choke on your food if you don't slow down, Matsuda." Kyuubey predicts this with unerring accuracy as your chaser of ice water goes down the wrong way, and you clamp one hand over your mouth to prevent coughing half-chewed food all over your boss. You thump your chest a few times with a fist to force everything down. "...I did say you passed my test as Warmaster, Matsuda, but this brings to mind a few concerning issues."

...Concerning issues? What the fuck about?

"This attachment to Hanegawa, for one. I'm not blind, Matsuda, nor am I deaf to what's being talked about in my Officio." He nods at you. "Remember, I chose you for this role because you are to make the difficult decisions. You decide who lives and who dies - the Magical Girls under your command and those who stand in our way." A smile. "Can I trust that this attraction to Hanegawa will not distract you from your duties, and what needs to be done?"

How do you respond?

It's then that your Soul Gem seems to spark, and you grunt slightly as you feel as if something is driving a hot spike into the stump of your right arm. You could argue that I suppose, but I don't really buy it.

If scars were a part of the person, then a missing arm would be a part of the person too and the arm could not have been regrown.

The only way it would make sense is if QB regrew the arm based on DNA specifications.
>>
>>30848986

That would depend entirely on where the 'template' for the new arm came from. If it was genetically, or from the Soul Gem, presumably it would be restored whole, or in the condition the arm was in at-point-of-contracting respectively.

Magic. Don't gotta explain shit. The soul gem seems to occasionally "remember" injuries, seemingly more or less at random.

>>
>>30849063
Yeah, Walpurgisnacht is a merging of multiple witches right? Still, you could argue that after they have merged deeply enough to manifest as a single entity, they don't separate at death and you get a Core.

Not sure what other high-level witches there could have been a few years ago, or what could have been a loss so great that QB thinks it was not worth it.

It might also explain how QB is keeping Walpurgisnacht contained. I always felt it a bit odd that a witch of that power could not just bust out of its prison. But if its actually in the form of a Core rather than in physical form, then that would explain it.

Which would mean that the corruption we are feeding it through the soulgem link will inevitably give Walpurgisnacht enough power to respawn in physical form before the quest is over, leaving us linked to a fully living rampaging witch (because something ALWAYS goes wrong when you have crazy scientists doing mad experiments).
>>

You narrow your eyes at the white furry bastard as you lower your fork and knife. He's got a lot of nerve, bringing that up after Kharn. But you'll do what needs to be done, he can rest assured of that. You've fucked up enough times in your career, and you don't exactly plan on making it a habit.

"See that you do, Matsuda. I have high hopes for you." Kyuubey seems to be satisfied with your answer.

[ + 10 Kyuubey Points! ]

"Now, I assume you'd want to know about your itinerary right now? Or would you like to do it while we pay Hanegawa a visit, to see how she's doing while training your future Callidus forces?"

You blink at Kyuubey in mid-pancake stab.

"I did say I'm not oblivious to what's going on in my own Officio, Matsuda," Your Incubator chides you mildly. "I know what you were thinking about. And no, put your knife away, I wasn't even skimming your surface thoughts, much less reading your mind - just adding up the facts and such." He seems to smirk here. "Or, if you'd rather we left her alone to work, we can either visit Sakura Kyoko in sick bay to see how she's recuperating, or visit Tomoe Mami as she attends to your prisoners."

Your prisoners...?

"From the Kirishima Ruri mission, Matsuda." Kyuubey reminds you, a patient note in his voice. "Lucius and her remaining squad, remember?"

Ah. Yes. You remember her.

You decide to go check up on how Mami's doing with Lucius and her lackeys. You've put it off long enough, dealing with them, although you distinctly remember that they've been a bit uncooperative, even with the blonde handling things. That either makes them really resilient or really fucking stupid.

"We'll discuss your itinerary on the way, then." Kyuubey says as he hops down from the table. "Finish your breakfast, Matsuda, and for goodness' sake, wipe your face afterwards. You've got bits of pancake and syrup on your cheeks."

You oblige him grudgingly as you mop up the remnants of your meal. What is he, your father? He's not your real father.

"I realize that. Shall we?"

And with this, you follow Kyuubey as you head towards Tomoe Mami's interrogation room. Interrogation rooms are different from Silent Rooms, although the latter can certainly serve as the former's purpose. For one, it has a small Silent Room battery, to be turned on and off on the interrogator's command, and it's set only to affect half of the room that the interrogatee is kept on, usually with restraints

"Right, for your itinerary." Kyuubey clears his throat. "You have two pending appointments for the day - one later in the afternoon, and the other at night. The first, of course, is the certification of a new Vindicare Squad. They'd just finished their advanced training course with flying colors, and are now certified to take on Beta-Class Witches and missions." It's here that Kyuubey smiles. "They've requested personally that the Warmaster, who is a Vindicare herself, attend their certification ceremony among their peers, and grant them their new squad name."

You follow Kyuubey into an elevator, and it immediately descends, down to the subterranean levels. "The one later tonight is the monthly Remembrance Ceremony. You remember what that is, right, Matsuda?"

...Of course. It's where the names of Officio members who've either died during field action or by Witching Out are read in memoriam. The Warmaster's usually required to say something there, a small speech of a sort, but Kharn never attended it. Not once. It had always been Malal, or Mami.

"Ah, and before I forget. Hold out your hand, Matsuda." You blink as you do so, and a rectangular shape glows into existence on top of it. The light disappears quickly, leaving behind what looks like a ticket to some show scheduled for tonight. It reads, 'Noriko-chan's M-otivational Talkshow, One Night Only! Admits 1 Front Seat! No firearms or deadly weapons allowed, bring your own tomatoes!'

An...M-idol show? A ticket to an M-idol Show?

"This came through special delivery for you yesterday." Kyuubey says in your confusion. "As you can see, it's on the same time as the Remembrance Ceremony."

...Ah.

Kyuubey nods here. "As always, you can have your staff attend to these events in your stead as you see fit, if you wish to devote your time to something else, but it's generally a good idea for you to attend to them on your own."

What do you do decide?

>You cannot attend the M-Idol Show and the Remembrance Ceremony at the same time. You can also have someone attend the Certification Ceremony if you wish. The options not picked will have one of your subordinates (Sayaka, Kyoko, Mami, Midori) attending in your stead.

You decide that you'll attend both ceremonies. It feels wrong to have anyone else do so - not when you're still new at the job, anyway. And you have a few ideas on what kind of squad name you'll be giving the newly-certified Vindicare Squad.

"Then, I assume you'll not attend the showing, then?" Kyuubey says as the both of you step out of the elevator, the car stopping at B16 - the Interrogation room floor.

You consider this for a moment, before shaking your head. You'll keep the ticket, you say. Maybe if you have time after the Remembrance Ceremony, you'll see if you can make the final minutes. Noriko had been helpful, at least, to keep your sanity during the Kirishima Ruri op. The least you can do is to show up, even backstage, to offer a few words of support.

"Very well, Matsuda. Ah, we're here." Kyuubey says as they come upon one of the more well-worn interrogation rooms in the floor, the others relatively unused. The door is heavy and leaden, much like the one sealing Haruka in her prison, but without the myriad of gatling guns aimed at it. "If you please, Matsuda."

You nod, here, and press the button on the console set into the wall next to the door itself. Activating its sister console inside, allowing anyone outside to contact the party inside.

"Yes? Who is this, please?" Mami's voice is light, easy, and warm. Reminding you of honey mixed in bracing, warm tea.

"It's us, Mami," Kyuubey speaks up, and you note here how he's using the blonde's first name. "Matsuda and I."

"Oh!" You hear Mami gasp in surprise. "Please, come in!" You hear some whispered murmuring underneath the crackle of the console speakers - Mami most probably telling whoever's the unfortunate fucker to not do anything stupid while you're there. Because you'll shoot them, seriously.

The door opens easily enough, and it's here that you see an interrogation room that...doesn't really look like an interrogation room.

No, it looks more like...a therapist's room, really. One with a bed in the middle.

And Mami, fully dressed in her crisp white blouse and pencil skirt - her blazer carefully folded and draped over the back of a chair - is sitting on the edge of the bed, while a very familiar girl in a simple white gown is resting her head on the blonde's lap. Using it as a pillow. The girl's eyes red as she continues to quietly cry, mewling as Mami runs her fingers through her short, platinum-blonde hair.

"I'll be with you in a moment, Chiaki-san, Kyuubey," Mami whispers, winking at you while holding an index finger up to her lips.

You nod dumbly, stunned not only at the sight but from the sudden rise of spiteful, frothing jealousy threatening to make you draw a weapon from your Shield and start shooting.

That's...that's fucking Meteor Hammer Bitch taking your FUCKING PLACE!

"...Is something the matter, Matsuda?" You hear Kyuubey suddenly speak, a hint of amusement in its voice. "Are you by any chance jealous of Miss Kana being interrogated in this manner?"

Assuming that she has not learned that we are in communication with the DEagle incarnations.

Because if she was watching when Braids and Dildoes helped us, you can probably say those 2 charges goodbye.
>>
>>30850926
I think we shouldn't try to hoard timestops too long, as Pinky might equate avoiding them with avoiding her (which IS what we're trying to do, but we don't want to anger the pink lass).

>>
>>30851002
There's no telling what she does and does not know. She obviously visits other people - Wendy, for one - so it's impossible to say what she may or may not see.

Shadowrun: Wendy knows she watches us, and she's helping us by distracting Pinky.
>>
>>30851028

I'm not so sure she visits Wendy. Homucifer certainly does, but Pinky probably just hangs around the church for free snacks.
>>
>>30850981
Yeah, practising telekinesis is a smart idea, but we should probably ask Braids for help. And also apologize for accidentally offending her previously.

>>30851002
Presumably she does not watch us constantly. Thats why I said "assuming". It depends on whether or not she was paying attention to us during the mission, or eating soulgems somewhere else.

However since we have no way to actually know if she was watching at the time, we have no way to know if we still have those 2 charges or not. As such, its probably wise not to totally rely on the timestops.

We should also communicate with the incarnations in silent rooms whenever one is available, just in case it helps. Maybe talk with Braids later considering our location.

You reach up to adjust your glasses - but stop as you pinch only empty air, briefly forgetting that you've lost them back at Big Shell. Shaking your head briefly, you continue raising your hand, raking your fingers through your ponytail instead and then flicking it off of your shoulders in one smooth motion.

Who wouldn't be jealous, really? You murmur to your Incubator, your glare centered on the scene before you, taking in the sight of Mami cooing sweet, comforting nothings into Meteor Hammer Bitch's ear.

Anyone would kill to get that treatment, you add, suppressing the need to growl or snarl the words out.

"...I see." Kyuubey replies, saying nothing else.

A moment of this treatment and the girl gets up from her divinely-soft, divinely-warm pillow, clear regret and anguish of doing so in her face.

It's also hear that you see a leather collar, bright red in color, wrapped around the girl's neck like a fashionable choker. It even has a tag. Doesn't have a leash attached to it, though, or a chain - probably just something symbolic rather than a practical restraint.

Mami murmurs a few more inaudible words to her, a tender smile curling the corners of her soft lips, and Meteor Hammer Bitch sniffs again, before crawling on the bed, towards the side farthest from you, and curling up there. Wrapping the covers around her tightly as she takes in a shuddering, sobbing breath.

"Chiaki-san, Kyuubey, I'm sorry to keep you waiting," Mami says as she greets the both of you, getting up from the bed and walking forward. You note here that she's not wearing her shoes - she's walking on the cold tile floor on stockinged feet. "You caught me during my daily interrogation with Kana-san."

[1/2]
>>
>>30851047
When did Homucifer visit Wendy? I must have missed that. Is it in one of the writeups? I thought I read them all but I don't remember that.
>>
>>30851076

"Never mind it, Mami," Kyuubey replies before you could. "I brought Matsuda here because she asked to. Also, she'll be attending both ceremonies, so you may want to give her some pointers as to what to expect." Kyuubey nods at the both of you. "In the meantime, Matsuda, I'll leave you with Mami. I need to take care of the business you delivered to me earlier, and it must be handled now."

Ah. Right. The...thing. Yeah.

"Don't let me stew you in your own jealousy, Matsuda," Kyuubey suddenly adds, darting away and out of sight before you could swear and draw a firearm. Mami blinks at you, obviously puzzled, before blinking - and then, smiling.

"Jealous, Chiaki-san? Of who?" She giggles here, softly, gently, pure honey poured into your ears. "You're not saying you're jealous of Kana-san, are you? This is interrogation!"

...It's...it's just not the interrogation you're used to, you grumble while looking away. You're used to interrogation involving beatings and torture. You just came from one yourself. You didn't know they could ever involve cuddling, or...lap pillows.

"That explains why you're absolutely filthy," Mami's brow furrows, shaking her head as reaches out with both soft hands to straighten your blood-flecked bow tie. "And your glasses are gone, too. Lost to the mission location, I assume?"

Yeah. You lost them. ...Sorry.

"No worries, Chiaki-san." Mami smiles again, lifting your spirits considerably. "Just remember to refresh your costume before you attend the ceremonies, alright? And a long shower, this time!"

Okay, okay. You were planning on that anyway.

Mami smiles again, nodding in approval. "Very good, Chiaki-san. As you should. I won't be around to remind you forever, you know!"

...You're not sure what to reply to that. You're not sure if you should even be thinking of that.

"Anyway, Chiaki-san! Anything I can do for you today?"

There are more than one churches and worship her. My assumption is that since Homucifer hangs out around Wendy, Pinky avoids her.

Pausing thread for now! Sorry for cutting the thread short, but this way I'll have enough sleep for a thread tomorrow night, too! Thanks for everyone's participation, in any case, and feedback is always appreciated!

In any case, one writeup incoming, I believe! Questions answered after it!

There's quite a commotion in the little alleyway. Here a vender of illegal wares argues with his customer over the price of smuggled goods. On the other side of the street, a lady has to wash her clothes in a small pink plastic tub, water from the nearby hose causing the suds to overflow and spill out. And beneath their feet, the dirt is cracked. Some poor schmuck rides in on a bike and draws leers from everyone there, but only for a moment. For I'm the main spectacle.

Well, myself and the chick trying to beat me unconscious.

She's agile, I'll give her that. She tries to approach with a flip through the air, ending in kick aimed straight for my head. But she's wide open to an uppercut that knocks her to the ground. I follow up with a spinning roundhouse kick that she hastily ducks out of the way of. Again she tries for a flying kick, so I grab her leg and throw her back down. By now she's unsteady on her feet and wide open to a good old fashioned leg sweep. Again she's making out with the dirt.

Still she staggers back up, determined not to go down easy, but I wasn't going to let her get in a single attack. A jab to the face makes her stagger back, and I shift towards her with a gut punch. She clumsily makes a kick at me, her movements sluggish and easy to read. More than enough for me to sidestep it and counter with a kick to the head.

Everyone can see it now : she's dazed and about ready to fall unconscious. Her sheer stubbornness is forcing her to stand upright. Which is cute and all, but it doesn't help her at all. Especially when I grab her and suplex her stupid face into the barren soil.

I can't even tell if she's still breathing at this point. But the small crowd that's gathered around us don't seem to care about her well-being. They cheer me, the victor.

My flawless victory is announced, and I look to my opponent, my expression carefully blank.

"You're bad at Street Fighter, ma'am."

The person who followed me home snapped the controller I gave her in two upon her hundredth loss, little grey bits of plastic flying around my mostly bare room. In our casual clothing - well, I am, anyway. She's wearing a stupidly frilly dress - we're sitting on the bed, across from the desk that holds my pathetically tiny television, playing the only thing I could afford from the pawn shop. She springs up and growls at me. "Fighting games are boring," is how she - Heather Crunch - justifies her loss. She sure stuck around a long time for somebody who dislikes them so much. "It doesn't feel anything like real fighting!"

"Yes, ma'am." Go fuck yourself. You're the one who invited yourself in and insisted on joining me in playing video games. I was already convinced you were trying to rape me from your creepy double entendres. I had to put everything back the way it was after your flamboyant ass wrecked it so I'd be allowed to get lunch, and then I had to hunt down something to eat after the cafeteria closed. After that I had to get back to the tortuous task of filling out forms written in Incubator-text for eight more hours because our Supreme Overlord Bunnycat the Sixth is an asshole. And I wish he'd figure out that those breathing exercises don't work when you don't have any fucking motor control so you can't fucking relax, you just get more and more antsy as the pain sets in and if that fucking bunnycat piece of shit bothered to ask in the first place he'd know that kind of thing but no of course not the boss knows everything about nothing and I just want to wring his smug little neck and feed him his own cold, black heart until he chokes on it. I hope he dies. Him and his brother from the Eighth. I hate them. I want those fucking things to die. Die Die die die diediedie-

"So... this is all you do?" Oh. That pest is talking again, and I realize I've been staring blankly at the wall. I turn to her, and see that she's giving me an annoying look.

"I stay in my residence and use this old machine to entertain myself after work until I fall asleep," I find myself answering to her disappointed face, pointing to the game console. It'd be really fun to lie right about now. Just a little bit. Something that'd shut her up. But I can't bring myself to do it, so I continue spilling my guts. "On weekends I stay in here and do much of the same."

She's folding her arms over her chest. "Nothing else?"

"I also go out and replenish my supply of sweets for the week. Local store has stuff at half-price before 10 AM on Sunday." After she barged in, I'd forgotten that I had some hard candies stashed in the drawer beneath the television. No wonder I'm feeling so pissy. I remedy that by opening said drawer to access the clear plastic sack containing my latest haul. Not paying the over-exuberant bitch any mind, I take a random one out, quickly unwrap it, and pop it into my mouth.

Mmm, watermelon.

Bitchcakes looks like she's thinking up something really wicked. Turning her head this way and that, making her ponytails rock back and forth like a metronome. She's making obnoxious affirmation noises, too. I didn't think anybody actually did that sort of thing, and yet here she is.

"Aha! I've got it!" she exclaims, leaping up onto the desk and - oh come on! Not the TV! Get off my fucking TV! "It is my belief that you would BENEFIT from spending your weekend basking in my GLORIOUS presence!"

"ERGO!" she yells as she jumps down, bringing three fucking months' salary crashing to the ground in broken glass. "As rrrrrrrank leader, I am going to spend MY valuable time aiding YOU!" Stop pointing at me. "To find your inner weapon! And we are starting... Tomorrow!"

That thing. That loud thing that pretends to be human just forced me into working on a weekend. I have to do unpaid overtime. I have to work without pay. More work. No pay. No pay for the work. If she would bother to look , she'd see me scowling.

And yet, amidst it all, a ray of hope shines through : the horrible girl is at my door and is making to leave. Before she does, she delivers an ultimatum : "I wanna see you at the gym at 8-o'clock tomorrow morning! Don't you dare be late!" before the thing that would not leave... leaves. Stomping down the hallway, further and further away from me. Giving me a brief period of solace to think about tomorrow. She's probably going to make me exercise.

She's the first person I've met here that looks like a normal human being, and yet she's breaking my things and making me fulfill her strange whims. And I'm pretty sure she's some kind of deviant.

I'm staring down at the smashed remnants of my dearest friend. The plastic's bent and broken. There's shards of glass all over the place that'll need vacuuming. And I have a sour taste in my mouth that the candy cannot mask.

I've decided.

I hate her. Yeah, I... I think I really hate her.

Thanks! Heres a question:

In the previous thread, we learned that in the past, Homura was both killed by Oktavia and also fell in love with Sayaka.

I guess after Rebellion and after the birth of the TNO/Homucifer and Madoka being "ripped out of heaven" and becoming Faust, Homura somehow started looping again in such a way where even death merely reset the loop then? That makes sense I guess.

But then, how did Homura revert to her shy Braids personality? Did she start forgetting her memories even before Chiaki-incarnation whenever she looped, which is how the Braids incarnation ended up becoming a shy girl again and falling in love with Sayaka?

Can you confirm, or explain how this is possible otherwise, since Homura turning into a witch or dying or otherwise being prevented from turning her shield would have been a total game over in the canon pre-rebellion loops. Not to mention that there are no hints of Homura ever falling in love with Sayaka in pre-rebellion canon timeline or reverting to "Moemura" personality.

Homura also got with Hitomi in one doomed timeline.

(It's been almost four months since the first two chapters, so I've provided a brief recap of events. It's May of 1940, and the German military has initiated Fall Gelb, the first stage of their push into Western Europe. Claire Roux was a tailor's daughter in a small village near the French Ardennes. A small force of German soldiers, supposedly under the command of the Thirteenth Incubator, struck the town at night. Their target- an orphanage of magical girls that, with the Seventh's cooperation, secretly aimed to challenge their dominance in mainland Europe.

The town burned, and her family perished. In her desperation, she formed a contract with the Seventh, becoming a magical girl. After the battle, she met Mireille Linois, a surviving Callidus, and Amelia Brynn, an envoy from the Black Templars in England. The trio make north, to Dunkirk and the Black Templar's main contingent. They are hunted by the same soldiers who perpetrated the attack, and an unseen Culexus.)

18:30, May 11th, 1940

“And then Ava came down really hard on her for getting seconds. I've never seen someone so upset over food. Sure, we only had so much, but it's not like anyone was starving. You had to be there, we were all so shocked.”

Mireille shouted a steady monologue over the engine as they traveled. Claire was eager to hear anything she could about other magical girls, and the upbeat Callidus was a good storyteller.

“And then Grace piped in with the biggest grin- “gee, boss, I thought we were supposed to be FIGHTING the Nazis!” You should have SEEN the look on Ava's face!” The bike's balance shifted a little as Mireille laughed. “Oh, right, you guys wouldn't know, when she was flustered or angry she'd always fall back into her German accent. That's why it was so funny.”

Claire had heard Amy, the cloaked driver, start to laugh a few times, before she would hide it with conspicuous coughs. The Black Templar had seemed less distant, and even friendly since defeating the witch. She spoke up. “Your leader was German, then?” Her voice was silenced by the engine, struggling loudly up a hill. “The letter said she had intelligence on the Thirteenth's group.”

“Sure was! She hunted with them a few years back. Something made her leave. Struck out on her own, you know? I guess they ramped up recruitment and militarized after that. She never told us too much, but the Seventh approached her and they started gathering girls of their own.” Mireille shrugged. “I can tell your bosses what I know.”

Amy grunted and nodded. Behind her back, the gray archer looked down at the sidecar and did an exaggerated imitation. Claire let out a small giggle and started fiddling with the radio receiver on her lap. She wasn't sure she'd be as quick to mock the initiate knight after seeing her fight that afternoon.

As for your question last night, love it. And it's all the better knowing what I do.

It was almost spooky how much better she'd felt after “using” the grief seed in her pocket. Her thoughts had sorted themselves out as the taint left her soul. She knew it when she transformed and shrugged off a bullet, but that was when her inhuman nature truly hit her.

The driver glanced back. “Stop playing with the receiver, Claire. We need it working.” Her heart obviously wasn't in the chiding. Mireille slapped her on the back. “We wouldn't want to miss another thrilling report on-”

The sarcasm was cut short as the mesh speaker emitted a long, ear-piercing tone. One of those dials must have been volume. Amy jumped, swerving the bike, and slamming on the breaks. “What did you-”

A hesitant voice floated out of the radio. “To any other...fledglings who escaped the nest. Rendezvous at the northern...safe-house.” The brief message ended, replaced by several confused radiomen.

“Ooh, cool and cryptic.” Mireille cut them both off as everyone spoke at once. “That's Grace Laurent, one of my colleagues. The first part was an inside joke, Ava's magic was flight- so we were all under her wing. It's good that she's safe...” A brief pause. Not long enough for either of them to speak, but long enough to emphasize what followed. “...but this is probably a trap.”

Claire's momentary excitement flipped around into confusion. “Why? You just said she was a friend!” Amy said nothing, an unreadable look on her face. Mireille's smile returned as she calmly explained. “It might NOT be a trap, but our arrangement back in your hometown didn't leak itself. There must be a traitor. Those Nazis saw us escape, but they can't search the entire countryside. It's a simple deduction.”

“You don't trust her?” There had to be a limit to caution.

“I don't, in light of recent events. If she's really out there, she'll lay low until we limp into town, lick our wounds, and find reinforcements with the BTs.” Mireille looked over to Amy and beamed.

>>
>>30851648
Amy carefully broke into the conversation. “What if it isn't a trap, but the enemy hears the message?” Mireille's smile didn't falter. “Then my Callidus lessons were wasted on her.”

Claire took a step toward her. “You can't leave your friend there to fight that thing from town, that Culexus!” Mireille let out an embellished sigh and shook her head, braids swishing from side to side. “But you'd want to fight it yourself? And really, she's more a coworker than a friend.”

“We should at least check it out.”

Amy spoke, slowly, in an uncertain voice that was unlike Claire's impression of her. “I think we should go. A knight would go.” She seemed to regain her composure. “We can approach stealthily. You're a Callidus, aren't you? If we sense a trap, we gather what intelligence we can and pull out. If all is at it appears, they come with us to Dunkirk.”

She took the unexpected support in stride and looked at her companion expectantly. The Callidus appeared to deflate, seeing where the conversation was going. “Amelia, your order needs to know about the enemy's movement. You'd endanger them for this?”

Amy swung herself back on the motorcycle and chuckled weakly. “Believe me, I'd only be endangering myself if my sister heard about me ignoring a damsel in distress.”

The trio was perched on the limbs of a large tree. The desolate chapel in front of them didn't look like much of a “safe-house,” but it was an unmistakable landmark. The building may once have been the pride of a local noble, but time and the forest had claimed it. Moss grew up the wall, and small branches grew through the shattered remnants of ornate windows. Parts of the slanted roof had collapsed inwards. It was these numerous holes and cracks that Mireille intently studied with a pair of small binoculars.

She brought them down from her face and stuffed them into a pocket. “Can't see anything from this angle.”

Amy was prone on a branch beneath them, scanning their surroundings for movement. “No fancy Callidus tricks to see inside?” she asked dryly.

“Well, I could get closer.” She stuck her arms out for balance as she hopped over to the next tree.

Claire swung down, landing over Amy. “After all of her caution before, she's just hopping over to peek inside?” Looking down on the knight like this, she was shorter than Claire had thought.

“She's the specialist, here.” She retorted, standing up. “I've only known her a few days more than you have, but she seems to know what she's doing.”

The subject of their concern had reached the roof, about thirty meters away, setting herself down flat to peek inside. A few moments later, she sat up, gesturing toward them. “She's beckoning us over? Think it's safe?” In the distance, she raised her finger to her mouth, shushing them, and leaned back down, again looking into the chapel.

Shrugging to each other, they leapt from branch to branch, quickly and quietly approaching. Even in a tense situation, she couldn't help but enjoy skipping through the air. She heard the voices before she even touched down on the roof.

>>30851679
“I'll say what I said before, this is such a waste of time.” The young female voice was full of disdain. “You saw an archer with gray braids, right? She never gave a damn about me.”

Claire carefully settled, not letting the sword at her waist clash against the stone. They peered through the damaged ceiling and into the dusty sanctuary.

A girl stood at the foot of the altar, her straight brown hair falling over a pale pink dress. The dress was made of a single piece of cloth and was utterly pristine, without a wrinkle or a speck of dirt, even as filth surrounded her. She could only be a magical girl. She defiantly faced a tall man. Even with his back to her, Claire instantly recognized him as the officer who had led the attack.

Next to her, Mireille confirmed this with a whisper and a sigh. “That'd be her. Doesn't look like a prisoner.”

Below them, he spoke, with annoyance and resignation. “We've repeating ourselves, Miss Laurent. We found no trail. In the morning, we give up and return. You may spend the night searching, if you wish, but I suspect you would have little success. If you are to remain, I ask you cooperate.”

“Hmph, as if you'd leave me unsupervised.” The traitor preened her hair and crossed her arms.

“I might, against my better judgment, if only for a moment's peace.”

This was the man that started it all. Claire grit her teeth.

A squad of soldiers watched the scene with expressions ranging from amusement to anger. Their uniforms matched those from the attack, and in addition to their rifles, some carried barbed tridents. She had learned not to underestimate their strength in numbers- as invulnerable as she might be, it didn't matter if she was skewered to the floor, tendons severed.

(5/11)

This almost reminds me of Freeman's Mind.
>>
>>30851691
A mirthful soldier soldier nodded at the argument and commented on something that was quickly followed by raucous laughter. The officer turned and silenced them with a glance.

Mireille muttered under her breath. “Huh, so he's Dieter Gris, a captain. I'll make a note of him. This really is a sloppy ambush, they're letting us learn a lot.”

“You speak German?” she asked without breaking her death glare on the captain.

“How was I going to spy on them if I didn't?”

The traitor's brief silence was more than she could stand. She spun on the soldiers. “Your discipline is dreadful! If my teacher had seen me loitering around in the open like this, I'd have been retrieving arrows for weeks.” She spun back to face their boss. “Are you REALLY trained soldiers? Why-”

Grace, and everything else, was cut off as an angry voice boomed through the space. It came with a jarring impact that shook Claire to her soul. Had there been more in her stomach, she might have been sick. The girls next to her grunted, and Amy shifted back, knocking down a loose slate.

A new girl stomped out of a blind spot beneath them and up to the two at the altar. Just looking at her made Claire's pulse jump. This was the Culexus. She took in her appearance in a moment. A sickly-looking blonde girl in a red dress. Red didn't look good on her.

The next moment, she remembered the dress. It had been in her father's shop. Claire had made it herself. It was her magnum opus, a source of pride. Her father displayed it in the window, bragging to every customer. It wasn't for sale. Now he was dead, and the shop was gone.

The girl let out a flurry of angry, animated German at Grace, who had stumbled, gasping for air, clutching the altar for support. The dam had broken, and Grace was barely enduring the flood. Each line was punctuated with a flinch from the pink girl on the floor.

>>30851709
The room was still. The captain, standing between the two, looked equally amused and concerned. He ended the silence. “Miss Paria doesn't like you. With your complaining, she can't focus and hide her power.” More silence.

Grace stood up, uncertainly, and spat at the observers. “You're just a bunch of disposable human thugs, weak without your pet Culexus.” She let out a hacking cough. “Know your place...” She slunk back to a pew and sat scowling. A muscular young man snickered, and another, carrying a weighted net, walked up and gave the Culexus a jovial slap on the back.

These three were the reason for everything. Captain Dieter Gris. The Culexus, Paria. Grace Laurent. They had worked together to steal everything from her.

“Your traitor's right about one thing, they wouldn't be much if we took that girl out of the picture.” Amy said, as nonchalant as ever. “Your bow isn't magical, think you have a clear shot?”

The archer bit her lip, weighing the situation. “They don't suspect a thing. I think I might.” She moved up to a crouch. “How about you two? Ready for a brawl? ...Claire? You alright?”

Awkward seconds later, she found her voice. “A brawl. Yeah, I'm alright. I want this.” Something clicked.

There was a small gasp. “Claire, your sword.” Mireille whispered, in shock. Looking down, she saw the rapier covered in fire. Flames licked at her thigh, but she felt only a pleasant warmth. She knew that this was part of her magic.

Her magic. Reality came back. Magic. All three turned, as one, back to the chapel. Paria was staring right at them, eyes wide with realization. She could sense magic.

Time slowed, and her own heartbeat was deafening. The German Culexus was the first to move, tugging on the captain's sleeve. In a flash, Mireille drew her bow. Gris saw them. From beneath her cloak, Amy drew a large, jeweled hammer. An arrow was knocked back. She could feel the Culexus' influence reaching out, grabbing toward them. Gris dived, pushing Paria to the ground.

An arrow thunk-ed into the wooden altar, where Paria had been an instant before. Soldiers shouted as Mireille clicked her tongue. Amy drew a large, jeweled hammer from her cloak and ran along the roof. Sapphire light spilled out of her weapon as she held it above her head. It was swung downwards into the parapet.

The stone roof collapsed over the front of the church, burying the German leadership. A cloud of dust and dirt pushed Claire from behind as she dived toward the shocked form of the traitor. Grace brought her left arm up to parry, and a gaudy short-sword twinkled into being in her hand. “Who the hell are you?” She followed through with a riposte, forcing Claire to step back. The girl smirked at something behind Claire.

She heard another impact, followed by a scream, as a soldier behind her collapsed into her peripheral vision, a wicked broadhead piercing his gut. He dropped to the ground, screaming in agony.

Claire stabbed forward, her footwork instinctual. The parry came late- the thrust was deflected, but drew blood in a glancing blow on the shoulder. Grace shrieked in pain and rage as the flaming sword started to cauterize the wound. Her immaculate dress had been shredded and burnt, and her expression of hatred matched Claire's own as she made to strike back.

With a burst of colorful light, a second weapon, a dagger, formed in Grace's free right hand, and plunged toward her chest. The attack had left Claire open. She was unable to deflect it, and threw her left arm in its path.

(8/11)
>>
>>30851738
It would seem that magical weapons hurt much more than mundane ones. She staggered backwards, the dagger was hilt-deep and had pierced straight through her arm. Grace stepped back, a smug grin plastered on her face. Claire wished she could hate her to death.

Holding her useless arm to her chest, she afforded herself a brief look at the rest of the battle. Amy stood over a pile of gore, fighting an angry group of soldiers that advanced from all sides. The rest were preoccupied firing at Mireille, who danced around the architecture as she fought, landing on a stone cross and loosing two arrows before skipping over to a ledge.

The rubble was stirring, and a handful were rising out of the roof's collapse, dazed but ready to fight.

She was now circling around, maneuvering Claire's back against the wall. Before she could retaliate, her opponent desperately dodged to the side, taking shelter behind a pew. An arrow bounced off of the stone where she had been moments before.

Bloodthirsty, Claire didn't ignore the opening, advancing forward to continue her reckless assault.

Grace glanced around the room, and kicked the pew at Claire, stumbling her backwards as her opponent retreated. Their duel had reached the entrance, watched over by an unrecognizable statue, headless and coated in moss. Grace had positioned it between herself and Mireille's current roost.

Before Claire could pursue, there was activity on the opposite end, as Captain Dieter Gris rose out of the debris, helping up Paria, shielded below him. The battle had a new priority.

Her two allies seemed to agree. The crowd of soldiers around Amy was noticeably reduced, and she broke through them, shaking off a net, roaring as she charged.

From somewhere, two arrows were loosed at the blonde Culexus. With a burst of adrenaline, the German captain shielded her with a wooden slab from the wreckage, the broken altar's surface. The arrows buried themselves in it.

Paria turned to face Amy, her face determined as she finally rejoined the battle. An impact shook every magical girl in the room as her power was fully focused on Amy, whose strings were cut. Her hammer faded away as the force of her charge slammed her into the ground. She was down.

Her instincts screamed for her to run away, but Claire resolved herself and ran over to her fallen comrade. As she stood guard over the limp body, her stance daring any soldiers to advance, Mireille dropped down behind the Culexus, pulling out a long knife and lunging for her throat.

The blade inches away, the Callidus found herself pushed away with great force, hitting the wall with the sound of cracking ribs.

Paria staggered with a cough, and then stood up straight, wiping a trail of blood from her lip. Had she hurt herself with her magic? She looked down on Mireille, speaking foreign words in a triumphant tone as she turned to face Claire.

Alone, with every remaining gun in the room aimed at her, the full attention of a powerful Culexus, and the traitor strolling confidently down the aisle, she found herself resigned to defeat. Her fury was redirected inwards. Even after giving up her humanity, she had been defeated.

Involuntarily, she loosened her grip on her rapier, which slipped from her hand and disappeared before hitting the floor. It was a strange feeling- she was losing control of her own body as the anti-magic slowly coiled around her.

As she fell on top of Amy, her vision was the last thing to go. She saw a young soldier, wounded but relieved to have survived. She saw Grace laugh as she stood over Mireille, snapping her bow in half. And finally, she saw the hem of her favorite red dress moving toward her, and a hand closing over the soul gem at her neck.

You're too kind. Thank you.

It's a bit of a spoiler if I explained it right away, but I'll just say that Homusatan becoming what she is and tearing down Madoka pretty much screwed things up for all the other Homuras big time.

>>30851731

Hahaha!

Don't worry, he was referring to you. I only just now sprung this on him.

The question of whether or not Homucifer has appeared to Wendy made me curious. We know she has appeared to Malal, and also to Chiaki during the scrying scene.

But has she ever appeared to anyone else? To Wendy in that writeup? Mami? Pinky? Kharn? QB?

At Decu's request, she has never appeared to Wendy - in fact, no gods at all have appeared to Wendy in the writeups - but after Malal's death, she started to appear to Nicole Touchdown.
>>
>>30851976
I thought Pinky appeared to Wendy when that girl was sacrificed.
>>
>>30851861
Ah, I see. It was an interesting read.

Seems like things have gone pretty quiet. Arright, as usual, I'm opening the whatever for questions.

I wasn't aware that Risa was Warmaster of the Sixth at some point. From what I got from Decu, I thought that she fought for the position and lost.

That's not a question. Next!

My understanding is this: She goes out with her squad and her Warmaster to deal with an Alpha-class witch, Warmaster witches out unexpectedly, she and Jager have to fight their way out past two powerful witches, Pinky chainaxes her and she slaughters everything, which by law of Warmastery means she gets the Officio. A month later, she dies or leaves under mysterious circumstances.

Did Decu block me because he's tired of my insecure, indecisive prattle? He didn't answer my e-mail from Thursday and that makes me paranoid.
>>
>>30852436
Was it Jaeger's death that finally sent Risa over the edge from tolerable crazy to retirement crazy?
>>
>>30852509
I don't know who you are. Also Decu takes like weeks to answer anything.
>>
>>30852522
It was mostly FoFA to my understanding, but I'm sure she took it as hard as she can take anything.
>>
>>30852436
Sorry. Give NECO my regards for the new profiles.

Thanks.

As for questions, are there any Officios that are actually -hurting- financially at this point?
>>
>>30852542
NECO a shit, she gets nothing from me.

As far as Officios actually hurting for money? I don't believe there are any, although I suspect operations costs/property damage are a large enough expense where none of them can afford to take a vacation, either.
>>
>>30852526
Thanks. I guess as long as he hasn't said anything along the lines of "God this bitch stinks" I'll consider myself in the clear.
>>
>>30851976
This might be a stupid question but are the Homucifer meetings with Nicole from some writeup, or something you just know?

Its kinda funny actually that Homucifer looks like Chiaki. Good thing she does not appear more often to people, or Chiakis reputation would be ruined.

And what about the actual Homura Akemi native to this dimension. If she is not a MG herself, then she must really despise Chiaki at this point since everyone would just assume she is Chiaki in disguise.
>>
>>30852630
Something I just know, and it's also in the category of things that I'm not sure I can cover easily without branching off into its own series of writeups. Which may happen down the line.
>>
>>30852569
Do magical girls' weapons disappear when they die/are defeated?
>>
>>30852659
Is that something thats going to appear in the main quest then? I would enjoy writeups about it regardless ofcourse.
>>
>>30851558
Nice, I like it. Looking forward to seeing where this goes!

>>30851788
Glad to see this back after so long too!
>>
>>30852680
Inclined to say yes, though quite a lot of them use non-magical weapons on top of their regular ones anyway.

>>30852700
Too early to tell!
>>
>>30852569
Speaking of NECO, where the hell did NECO come from? She's some kind of ace reporter on magical girls who has no magical girl powers and has strong enough connections that Kyubey vouches for her. What's her story?
>>
>>30852800
She had an interest in magical girls, then she was fucked by Malal. The latter is why Kyubey vouches for her.
>>
>>30852744
How does azure feel about this risa and how much collaboration is there between ae and deculture?
>>
>>30852800
Fucking Malal set her up with a lot at this point, partly because of her insistence on getting herself into deep, deep shit.
>>30852882
isn't too far off, really. She's also seeing to some things for Malal postmortem, which is most of where Coobs's protection comes from.

There's more to it, of course, but that'll come out in due time.

>>30852887
Hahaha!
