The two of you race past several guards and nearly knock over a few maids as you run at top speed to the conference room where Marianne's father and the others are presumably going over how to deal with the current situation. Luckily, it seems that the Princess knows exactly where to go...

You're quite grateful for that, seeing as how now really isn't the time to be getting lost.

"This is the room, I think..." Marianne says, catching her breath in front of a large door. "Come on, let's not waste any more time."

Nodding in acknowledgement, you follow Marianne as she enters the room. Inside, you see Celestino, Thierri and Sir Gregory as expected, along with Alberto, Mirakarias and Randolf.

It looks like Akemi and her family aren't getting involved in this, possibly because they're not from this region at all.

"Marianne?" Thierri says, getting up from his seat. "What's wrong, did something happen?"
"Y- yes, Gerhard... Reinhold, Karel and I happened to be passing by the front gate just as he came back carrying Sir Leopold, I think it was..." Marianne says, doing her best to keep from breaking down on the spot.
"I don't think Gerhard himself is hurt, but Sir Leopold was messed up pretty bad," you join in, "and Gerhard said that the other Knight who was with him was already dead when him and Takamaru showed up."

I do think it's a little curious that Gerhard hasn't recognized any distinguishing factors given that he was also at one point an assassin, and is also a half-dragon. I know he's probably been out of the game for a while now what with running afoul of what is probably the biggest still-mortal badass in the world and getting press-ganged into service in exchange for his life, but still. She probably doesn't know everything, but she knows a little about him, at the very least. (The "allegedly super-badass" line more or less confirms that, since if she knew exactly who he was she'd know that it wasn't alleged, and if she knew NOTHING, she wouldn't have any adjectives at all to refer to him by.)

Even if her mother knew exactly who he was, there's not much point in telling Karel all of the stories if she doesn't believe she's ever going to see him again. From her perspective they met, probably got acquainted, then got -acquainted-, and he left before she became aware that she was pregnant. And from her perspective, the guy's been MIA pretty much ever since.

Even if she knows exactly who he is, if Alicia doesn't think he's ever coming back there's nothing to be gained by getting the idea into Karel's head that she's actually the daughter of a nobleman. (Probably? I don't think we were ever told for sure, but given everything we know it's probably the case) The possible notoriety isn't worth risking bringing down issues of heredity and/or propriety on their heads from whatever members of his family are still around and caring about succession sorts of things.

All that said, I'd be surprised if Karel hasn't been told at least a few fond stories about the man so she had some small way to connect to her absent father, but it also wouldn't surprise me if that ended up being the extent of it.

"I'm going to go and see what your father and Karel are talking about," you say, "you want to come?"
"No, that's okay," Luciana shakes her head. "I'd like to hear more about the situation from Uncle Gregory first... but thanks for asking," she says, forcing a smile.

Nodding in acknowledgement as Luciana turns back to Thierri and the others, you make your way over to where Celestino and Karel are talking, close to the bed that Sir Leopold is resting in.

"Umm, hey," you say, waving to them as you approach.
"Ah, Reinhold," Celestino turns to you. "Karel and I were just talking about his past with Sir Leopold here."
"Yeah," Karel nods. "I'm just glad that he's not as badly off as he looked at first," she sighs.

Yeah, you have no idea if he's joking or not.

Sir Gregory then explains that Gerhard's been given orders to murder EVERYONE involved with this assassination or kidnapping or whatever it is, and Celestino even went so far as to provide him with the guard roster of the Fifth Division, complete with drawings of each of its members. While he's sure that the traitorous guards will be taken care of, the matter of there being someone out there who's able to take on and soundly defeat two Knights is much more disconcerting.

Luciana tries to get a more detailed explanation of the operation, but both Thierri and Sir Gregory refuse to tell her anything more than the most basic details out of respect for her father. After about fifteen minutes or so of idle chatter, Karel comes back with her mother and Emilio so Celestino calls everyone out into the hallway.

"As loath as I am to admit," Celestino says with a long sigh, "the current situation here is such that I don't feel that you're safe here."
"Y- you mean that there's been more attacks?" Emilio asks, his face having gone pale.
"No, that's not it," he shakes his head. "But with an entire division of my Royal Guard having been infiltrated and the fact that we still don't know who's behind this, it's quite clear that it's -not- clear who is and isn't trustworthy among the castle staff. And that's why I'm sending your mother and the rest of you out of the country while I resolve matters here."

The castle was specifically described as huge when Reinhold first explored it.

The fact that magic exists is an excellent argument for the castle being fucking huge. In the actual medieval Europe they were limited by things like money and building technology.

Moving the giant rocks from the quarry and getting them to were you're building the castle is probably the most expensive part. But in a setting with magic they could probably just levitate them the whole way. Then levitate the stones to where they need to be. King Thierri's castle could be bigger than any real life caste has been.
