It is the age 730, you are a young Saiyan living on a planet known as Plant. For the past ten years, your people have warred with a race known as the Tuffles. It has been a brutal, bloody conflict, with many lives lost on each side. Now, finally of age, you have been called to fight for the future of your race.

At the end of each update, you will be given various options. There will be ten minutes to vote on them, with the option that receives the most votes being used in the next update. There are no write-in answers unless explicitly stated (anybody who saw Saiyan Story knows that quickly turns into a clusterfuck).

All decisions are final. If you regret voting for something, too bad. Consider your options carefully as these are life or death scenarios.

Waifu bullshit will be kept to an absolute minimum (again, Saiyan Story clusterfuck)

While this takes place in the Dragon Ball universe, your decisions can change the universe and events from how they were in the established canon. Also, keep meta-gaming to a minimum.

>Planet Plant: Age 730

For ten years, Planet Plant has been in a state war. The warrior race known as the Saiyans have fought a bloody war with the peaceful race known as the Tuffles for control of the planet. The two races had lived in relative peace for many years; the Tuffles lived in five great cities spread across the planet, while the Saiyans lived in scattered tribal communities in the wastelands that covered much of the planet.

Eventually, a cunning Saiyan named Vegeta united the warring tribes under his banner. Soon, he mobilized them for war against their peaceful neighbors. The war began with a surprise attack that ended in the destruction of one of the great Tuffle cities. The Tuffles, small, feeble beings unsuited for battle, quickly fell before the might of the ferocious Saiyans.

However, what the Tuffles lacked in strength, they made up for in intelligence. Their scientists worked tirelessly to develop methods to combat the Saiyans. Soon, all Tuffle soldiers were equipped with powerful energy guns, strong enough to slaughter even the mighty Saiyans. They were also equipped with devices that allowed them to read energy levels and communicate with one another. Using this technology, they launched a devastating counterattack that destroyed several Saiyan villages. The Saiyans regrouped, and the two forces soon found themselves at a stalemate that would last for two years.

However, after two years of struggle, a full moon appeared. This was a rare event on Planet Plant, only occurring once every eight years. Under the full moon, the Saiyans transformed into monstrous apes, and managed to destroy the second Tuffle city before the sun rose the next day.

The final three Tuffle cities have stubbornly held on for the past eight years, developing new technology to fight the Saiyans, who continue to grow in strength.

Today, you finally join in the war.

You stand just outside your village, in one of the wastelan

ds that covers your planet. Around you, many other warriors have gathered, Saiyans of many different ages and appearances, formerly of different tribes, all united in the cause of eradicating the Tuffles.

A tall Saiyan stands before you. He has scruffy black hair and a hairy face. He looks over the gathered Saiyans, nodding approvingly.

"Alright, listen up!" he yells, loud enough for everyone in the large crowd to hear him. "I am Brolac. King Vegeta has put me in charge of you lot. Today, you're in for a real treat; you get to attack one of the great Tuffle cities."

He points to the large towers, barely visible in the distance. "That is Fullut, home to over ten thousand Tuffles. Counting me, there are one hundred and one of us. So, each of us will have at least a thousand of those runts to kill. For those of you who are new here, or are just stupid enough to forget; avoid their blasters at any cost! Better warriors than you have been taken down by those damn things. Now, who's ready to kill?"

The Saiyans around you let out roars of excitement and anticipation, eagerly awaiting the beginning of the attack.

You shout to be heard over the crowd, but your voice is drowned out. After a few minutes, Brolac gets tired of waiting for everyone to quiet down, hurls a ball of energy into the air. The ball explodes in a bright flash of light, probably letting the Tuffles know you're coming if they didn't already, but at least it gets everyone to quiet down. You quickly blurt out your question, and several heads turn to you.

Brolac looks at you, an amused smirk appearing on his face. "Ah, afraid of the big bad blasters, are you?" he chuckles. "Alright, you want to know more? The blasters fire blasts of energy a lot like ours. Depending on how strong you are, it could take a single shot or a dozen shots to kill you, but I wouldn't recommend trying to find out. The blasters can shoot upwards of one hundred times. Any other questions? Or can we get to the good part?"

You tell him that you do have another question, leading to groans of irritation from many of the warriors closest to you. You hear some shouting from the back of the group, asking what the hold up is. You also hear a fair bit of grumbling around you and realize that you probably aren't making yourself popular right now. Nevertheless, you ask Brolac if the Tuffles have any other weapons.

His eye twitches and he heaves a great sigh of irritation. "Fine; I'll give you all the damn information I know about the Tuffles. They have devices that they wear on their faces that tell them how strong each of us is. They also have these hovering transportation devices that can move their soldiers around really fast. Now, let's get to the fighting!"

The crowd roars in approval, and Brolac flies into the air, turning and heading for the city. You and your fellow warriors follow close behind. As you get closer to the city, you see that the Tuffles indeed know you're coming.

Barricades are set up around the perimeter of the city, and dozens of Tuffles stand behind them, blasters trained on the oncoming Saiyan forces. Yellow flashes of light shoot from the barrels of the blasters, striking several of the approaching fighters. In front of you, a rotund man with a bald head is struck, and begins to fall, dead before he hits the ground. Taking a glance around, you see more and more Saiyans dying from the volley of blaster shots.
A few Saiyans head for the ground, charging the Tuffles on foot. Seconds later, they are all mowed down.

Ahead of you, Brolac throws a sphere of energy about the size of his fist at the Tuffles, killing three in the blast. More take their places, and Brolac is forced to fall back to avoid being fried by blaster shots.

The battle is not going well, and you need to decide what to do.

You decide to go to ground, and land far from the barricades and gunners. In the sky above, more and more Saiyans are shot down by blaster shots, falling dead to the ground as their comrades continue to fight.

Now, it's time for you to join the fun. You form balls of energy in the palms of your hands and hurl them at the barricades, creating more blasts immediately and throwing them as well. You manage to fire off a dozen blasts before any of the Tuffles start to return fire, and even then the shots are easy for you to avoid. Taking to the sky, you see that you did quite a bit of damage; a large section of the barricades has been demolished, and Tuffle corpses lie strewn close to it. The remaining Tuffles are in a panic, and several turn and flee into the city. The remaining defenders fight bravely to keep the Saiyans at bay, but are soon overwhelmed. A way into the city is now clear.

Brolac and most of the other Saiyans rush through the break in the defenses and enter the city, while the others target the massive buildings with energy blasts.

As you watch your fellow warriors rush into the city or bombard its buildings, you decide to do something different. You fly around the perimeter of the city, searching for other defenders. In the nearby areas, the defenders have left the barricades to aid in the battle in the city streets. As you get further away, however, you come across a group that is in the process of leaving its post. They are so distracted that they don't notice you coming.

You take advantage of this opportunity and rain energy blasts down on the defenders and their barricades, demolishing large sections and killing a dozen Tuffles. The survivors return fire, but they are terrified, causing many of their shots to miss completely, and you can easily dodge the ones that don't. Soon, you have killed the surviving Tuffles, and move on, repeating the process around the perimeter. By the time you return to where you started, you've killed over a hundred Tuffles.

The small group of Saiyans who were bombarding the city when you left are still hard at work, and have already managed to destroy several of the massive buildings at the edge of the city. You hear the sounds of battle in the city, and occasionally see a flash of light as the forces exchange energy attacks.

As the battle rages within the city, you join in the bombardment on the outside, hurling balls of energy at the huge buildings that stand at the edge. One by one, they begin to crumble under the fury of the attacks you and your comrades unleash. Soon, a large section of the outer city has been reduced to rubble, and you catch glimpses of the battle within the city through the rising smoke.

Saiyan and Tuffle corpses litter the streets, ignored by the living combatants locked in a desperate struggle. A pair of Tuffles in some sort of floating transportation device come speeding down the street, only to be destroyed by a blast from Brolac.

Dozens more Tuffles rush towards the Saiyans, taking aim with their blasters. The Saiyans, less than half in number than they were at the beginning of the battle, prepare to meet them.

>A. Attack the Tuffles from above while they are focused on the Saiyans on the ground

Creating spheres of energy in your hands once again, you hurl them down into the approaching ranks of Tuffle soldiers, killing half a dozen before they even know that you're there. The remaining Tuffles halt their charge and turn their attention skyward, allowing the Saiyans on the ground to attack with their own energy blasts. The panicked Tuffles try to fight back, but the other Saiyans in the sky join you in firing energy attacks into their ranks. Their attention divided, the Tuffles are quickly killed by the combined aerial and ground attacks.

The Saiyan warrior closest to you, a tall man with short dark hair, lets out a shout of triumph, which is echoed by the others in the air and on the ground. The airborne Saiyans begin to bombard the buildings on the street that you just managed to secure as the main group moves deeper into the city.

As those around you continue to hammer the buildings with energy attacks, you fly down to join the main group. You march with the others down the street, noticing that there are no civilians, save some corpses mixed here and there with those of Tuffle soldiers. They probably either retreated further into the city or are hiding in buildings. You look back to where a group of buildings is in the process of being demolished by your comrades and think that if they tried the latter, they've doomed themselves.

You come to an intersection, and find Tuffle soldiers lying in wait in front of you, as well as to your left and right.

You notice that they're relatively few in number; it seems your attacks on the perimeter were a good idea! You and the other Saiyans attack first, killing dozens of Tuffles before they have a chance to fight back. The entire exchange lasts only a few seconds, and you lose only two Saiyans, while they lose nearly one hundred soldiers.

As you survey the carnage, you spot something moving down the street in front of you. It is massive, about the size of a small building, and it hovers above the ground like those transportation machines you saw Tuffles moving around in earlier. This one does not have an open roof; instead, the entire surface of it seems to be covered in thick armor. A massive tube extends from the front. The tube strongly resembles the barrel of a Tuffle blaster, and it takes aim on you and the Saiyans around you. A yellow light begins to shine inside the barrel.

The others look uncertainly at the strange thing approaching; some take a step back, others prepare to attack.

You get out of the way, moving down the street to your left. Two other Saiyans, a short male with shoulder-length black hair, and a female with waist-length brown hair, follow you, while others head down the street to the right or take to the sky.

Several Saiyans, Brolac among them, stand their ground, and begin launching energy attacks at the massive approaching object, which is no longer in your field of vision. A few seconds later, a massive wave of light envelops the area where Brolac and his followers stand. A few seconds after that, you see them lying dead in the streets.

The Saiyans in the sky rain energy blasts down from above, then split up and head for ground as another wave of light shoots into the sky. Luckily, nobody was hit this time, though the Saiyans that land close to you seem terrified.

Soon, the mysterious object comes into view once again.

The Saiyans around you begin hammering the massive object with their energy attacks, and you see flashes of light from the other side of it, the other group doing the same. The object slowly turns left towards the other group, and you dash towards it. The female Saiyan who first followed you yells in surprise as you rush in, and the attacks from your side cease as the others watch you.

Upon reaching the object, you crouch down and move under it. Luckily for you, it moves very slowly, so keeping up with it is not difficult. You tap on the metal on its underside and find it to be much weaker, as you manage to punch a hole through it. You spy a hatch nearby, and rip it open, jumping inside.

Five Tuffles cry out in shock as you enter. Within seconds, they are all dead. Taking a look around, you see that the inside of this thing is mostly empty. However, you see a wheel, a lever, and a button at the front of it. The wheel is probably used to steer, the lever to raise or lower the tube, and the button to fire. You think back to the blast that killed ten Saiyans in an instant.

That kind of power could be very useful right now.

You decide to take control of this thing and use it to destroy the city. However you quickly realize that there is no way to see the outside; armor covers everything, there are no windows. You begin to wonder how they managed to know where to attack when you remember the conversation you had with Brolac before the battle. He had told you about devices the Tuffles wear on their heads that allows them to detect the strength of their enemies. They probably used them to locate their targets.

But, that still wouldn't explain how they were able to navigate the city without crashing into anything.

You look at the dead Tuffles on the floor. One of them still has one of those devices on his face, and it seems to be in good shape. You remove the device, green in color, and put it on your own face. Touching a button on its ear piece, it suddenly flashes with the locations of the other Saiyans along with their strength, measured in something called "Power Levels".

You could just keep track of the others using this device and shoot anywhere but where they are. You would cause indiscriminate damage that way, but possibly miss some areas or attack the same place twice. Perhaps there is something programmed into the device that can help you navigate and choose your targets better.

You decide to see if you can find a way to use the device to navigate. The front of the object you are currently inside continues to be struck by the Saiyans it is facing as you toy with the device. After about a minute, you find what you're looking for. A map appears on your eye-piece. It shows your location, as well as the objects and power levels around you. The buildings are all clearly labeled, so it is likely that you won't be warned of any objects in the middle of the streets as a result of the attack. You note with some interest that the device is detecting small power levels in many of the buildings; Tuffles hiding from the invading Saiyans.

Heading to the front, you take the wheel and turn the massive thing towards the street it came from, taking aim at one of the buildings on that street. Pressing the button, you hear a satisfying boom as the blast strikes its target. You hear the sound of the building crumbling, and you take aim on the next building. The energy attacks on the thing you are controlling stop, and you fire again, destroying a second building, then a third, and a forth, and so on.

You take it down the street, finding more and more buildings to destroy. The device shows the Saiyans following at a distance, apparently wary about approaching this thing. Your scouter then shows dozens of small power levels running down the street towards you; Tuffles. It seems you're getting a chance to pay them back for blasting Brolac and the others.

You turn to face the oncoming Tuffles, and lower the tube to aim directly at them. On your device, they stop moving, and you can only assume that they're frozen in surprise or fear. With a push of a button, their power levels vanish from your device. You can faintly hear cheering somewhere behind you; clearly your comrades are impressed and glad to see that display.

You turn your attention back to the buildings, and spend the next hour moving through the city, destroying every building you come across, along with every Tuffle you detect. Soon, you come back to the intersection. You detect the other Saiyans gathered nearby.

With the city destroyed and your enemies dead, you finally step out of the strange thing that allowed you to destroy an entire city. As you come out from under it, you are met with the cheers of your Saiyan brothers and sisters. Many of them approach, wanting to hear how you managed to take control of that thing and destroy the city. You tell them how you snuck under it, slaughtered the Tuffles inside, and took control, using the strange device you now wear to navigate. You see with some amusement that half nearly a dozen Saiyans immediately go searching the rubble for some more of the devices.

"Now that's what I call destruction!" the short Saiyan with shoulder-length black hair who hid with you earlier tells you.

The woman who hid with you nods. "That was quite a show. But next time, save some more enemies for the rest of us to kill. If I hadn't got to kill two dozen Tuffles before your hijacking, I'd be pretty pissed."

The man, and a lot of the nearby Saiyans laugh in agreement.

You tell them that if they want more enemies, they'll just have to get to them before you do. This results in another round of laughter. It seems you've changed their opinion of you a fair bit.

The man looks at Brolac's corpse. "So, our 'leader' turned out to be an idiotic weakling. If people like him are leading, it's no wonder we haven't won the war yet."

"Well then, it's a good thing that we're part of the fight now, isn't it?" the woman asks rhetorically. "Watch; this will be over in less than a year."

"That's the spirit!" shouts a voice from the crowd, and there is a roar of agreement.

Now, with the battle over, another Saiyan tradition begins; looting!

The Saiyans all split up then, searching the ruins of the city for anything useful. You see them search overturned transportation devices, and you have to keep a few people away from the gigantic thing you hijacked during the battle. You see that a few of your fellow Saiyans managed to find some more of the device that you're wearing.

You're not one to pass on such a time honored tradition. Taking the massive thing with you to avoid having it stolen, you search the city for anything of value. You find a whole bunch of Tuffle blasters, and several more of those power reading devices. You load them into the large thing, and continue to search, finding jewelry, and money, and one of the strange devices the Tuffles use to cook food without fire. With everything loaded up and the sun setting, you depart from the city with your Saiyan brothers and sisters.

Upon reaching the village, the initial reaction from the villagers is one of shock. Nobody had actually expected this many survivors. On the way back, you had counted, and including yourself, there are twenty seven survivors.

Of course, the villagers are also curious about the massive thing you returned in, so you and the other survivors tell them all about the battle, your heroics getting special mention, of course. The villagers are very much impressed, though the younger warriors are very disappointed to not have taken part in the fight. Everyone then goes to the eating hall to feast after the great victory. You hear your stomach rumble and know you should eat, but perhaps it would be wise to take your loot back to your home first.

Before heading to the eating hall, you decide to take your loot to your home so that it doesn't get stolen. You drive the large thing to your home, a small hovel made of rock. Inside, a fireplace sits in the center, and a bed is against the left wall. Home sweet home.

Unloading all of your loot, you dig a hole in the ground in front of your bed and bury the jewelry and money. The eye devices, blasters, and cooking device on the other hand, you place on your bed. You'll keep the cooking device for yourself, of course; such a treasure is too precious to surrender. But, the eye devices and blasters aren't all that valuable to you as anything other than trophies. Some of your fellow warriors would probably find one of the devices useful, and would probably be willing to pay a great for one. The blasters could be useful for weaker warriors, and so are similarly valuable.

Leaving one of the blasters and one of the power level reading devices on your bed, you grab the others and leave your home, walking to the eating hall. The smells of food, alcohol, and blood reach your nostrils, and you can't help smiling as you walk inside.

The eating hall looks like it always does; chaos everywhere. Saiyans devour massive quantities of food while others drink themselves silly and others fight, often for no other reason than that they feel like it. There are tables and chairs set up, but only a few people actually use them for sitting and eating. Chairs are mostly used to hit one another around here. Such a wonderful place.

You receive enthusiastic greetings from many of the warriors who survived the battle, and a few ask about getting one of those devices you recovered. Before you have a chance to discuss it with them, you feel a hand on your left shoulder. You turn and find yourself face to face with the King of the Saiyans.

King Vegeta is a tall man with spikey brown hair and a full beard. He wears the same sort of ugly brown clothing as most Saiyans, but on him it seems somehow more dignified. He looks down at you with a curious expression, before removing his hand from your shoulder and leaving the eating hall. He says nothing, but you get the sense he wants you to follow.

You do as he commands, and explain everything. You tell him about its initial appearance, how it took down ten Saiyans in a single blast. You tell him how it seemed immune to any attack until you struck from below. You tell him how you took control of it, and used it, along with the power level reading device, or 'scouter' as he called it, to destroy the city and its defenders.

He scowls, "Those Tuffles are far too clever. I expect we'll encounter more of these things as we lay siege to their last two cities. It is fortunate that you found its weakness so quickly; otherwise, you and the other warriors would have most likely died today."

He looks off into the distance, where Fullut lies in ruins. "Today was an enormous victory. It has been eight years since we last managed to destroy one of their cities; eight years of a stalemate, eight years those stubborn little weaklings held out."

He chuckles, "Well, they won't be holding out much longer. Eight years ago, we destroyed on of their great cities, Ulleft, on a full moon. We crushed their armies like insects, and brought their buildings crumbling down around them."

He looks you in the eyes. "A full moon happens once every eight years on our planet. This year, we will unleash the true power of our race, and finally achieve total victory over the Tuffles. You and your comrades have brought us one step closer to that victory. Perhaps you will get to help us take the final step to that victory."

He walks past you and leaves the village, shouting ,"Now go feast! It's not often we have an occasion like this to celebrate!"

You don't have to be told twice to go eat, especially when a king tells you to do it! You go back inside the eating hall, where you see a trio of drunken men fighting with one another in front of a cheering crowd. On the other side of the hall, a female Saiyan strikes a male with a chair, knocking him out cold before casually going back to drinking. At the back of the hall are several well cooked Plaimals, large, horned creatures that roam the wastelands and make for a delicious meal.

You go and rip a large chunk off of one of the Plaimals, hungrily devouring it. The cheering gets louder, and you see that one of the Saiyan men is unconscious and being used by the second Saiyan man to hit the third.

Has anyone thought of using the scouter to survey the room. Take note of the highest power levels so that if anything happens in the future you know who to look out for.

We're the hero of the battle. We ain't sleeping alone tonight anyway. We don't need to pay for it.

You agree to trade your blasters to the woman from the battle in exchange for a chest full of money and jewels. She grins as some of the others glare in her direction and yours. The man who offered you beer still gives it to you; he throws it as hard as he can at your head, but you duck out of the way and he staggers off to drink some more. Next, you listen to offers for the scouters.

"I'll give you my Tuffle skull collection AND my favorite dagger for them!" the man from the battle yells.

"I'll have sex with you!" the one woman yells again.

"I'll take them for free," the one man tells you.

"I'll kill someone for you!" another man yells.

In the end, you just give them each a scouter for free. Having two left over, you give one to the woman from the battle who bought your blasters, and one to the next person who asks, which happens to be the drunk guy who offered to trade you a beer. He seems to not understand that you're giving it to him for free, and hands you a beer as he takes the scouter. You think about explaining things to him, but hey, free beer!

The fight on the other side of the hall is over, with two men unconscious and the last drinking even more beer, soon ending up unconscious from that as well. The Saiyans you gave scouters to are now trying to figure out how to use them, except for the woman who you agreed to sell your blasters to. You need to make sure you make the trade tonight.

Taking all of the blasters outside, you meet the woman to make the exchange. You hand her the blasters, and she hands you a large chest. Opening it reveals a large amount of shiny jewels and money, just as promised.

"Definitely worth it," she comments. "I'm going to stash these somewhere safe, maybe I'll see you back at the hall after that. I'm Caras, by the way."

She takes the blasters and walks off.

Nice quest so far, I wholly approve of how you've been portraying the saiyans.

Mind if I ask how many other Saiyans there are in our village?
Also, will we be playing without choosing any other character traits besides male? I'm fine with that until it becomes plot important personally
>>
>>30785265
Why are you so based?

So, now that the updating is over for this thread, can we have a serious discussion about exactly how and when Saiyan Story went to shit? And by serious, I mean with as little vitriol and shitflinging as possible for 4chan?

"Failing to understand the past" and all that in mind, I think there's something to be learned there.
>>
>>30787436
I think it was doomed once waifuing became pretty much the main focus
>>
>>30787436
>premise of the quest allowed for multiple waifus
>Saiyan protagonist from a mostly post-PTO perspective means that not only do we have limitless ki potential and therefore no incentive to do anything more than train raw power, but because there's no upper limit we just keep getting more powerful and scale becomes a problem because pretty much everything is just a joke to us
>including the dragonballs at all means death has no consequence
>not enough interaction with non-Saiyans and non-Humanoids
>Instant Transmission
Hell was a high point, though, I'll admit. Shit was straight up silly.
>>
>>30787821
Honestly, all of that aside from the first point is integral to DBZ. Saiyans are broken, only balanced by the fact that Androids and magical pink chewing gum monsters are also broken.

>>30787807
It's funny: it started innocuously at first, but even then people were throwing fits whenever the "flirt" option was pursued. Over time, it seems that romance subplots took over because the fights just weren't that challenging or interactive anymore.

Basically, I have no problem with romance in quests: even with multiple partners. It's just that the balance between plot/action and waifu was seriously out of whack.
>>
>>30788015
>Honestly, all of that aside from the first point is integral to DBZ
Not to a DBZ Quest. How about being one of Appule's race and joining the Ginyu Force?
Saiyans should never be an option because there's no challenge.
>>
>>30787436
Saiyans as protagonists.
We should have been a race that doesn't have an "I win" button built into their genetic code".
Had I run the quest, I'd have had our guy go to a tournament, and find out that one of the contestants is a Saiyan.
Saiyan antagonists vs non-Saiyan protagonists is what we needed. Saiyans don't always win, if you're more powerful or more cunning than them you can take them down, so all you need to do as a QM is everyone away from Dragonballs (easy, considering there's only 2 sets on 2 planets in the entire universe).
>>
>>30788054
Character creation doesn't doom quests, or any other form of roleplaying. A QM or DM should be able to challenge the party regardless of how strong they are by tailoring the encounters.

Starting with a Saiyan was never the problem.
>>
>>30788015
Som fucked himself by making all options write-ins. I see why he did it, but he didn't realize how easy it could backfire
>>
>>30788054
>>30788211
If playing as a Saiyan is fatal, what do you expect to happen here?
>>
>>30788271
Honestly, even in the first thread that was something that came up, along with dice mechanics for determining degrees of success/failure. Nothing was ever done on either count.

It was fine for a while, but you're right. Pure write-in for anything other than talking is a recipe for disaster. At best, write-ins should be "considered".
>>
>>30788241
>A QM or DM should be able to challenge the party regardless of how strong they are by tailoring the encounters.
Except everybody hated that.
Everybody also complained that they'd never see Buu because we dwarfed him right after 16 arrived - which was a great anti-climax, by the way.
>>30788277
Slightly better, since Saiyans shouldn't know yet that what doesn't kill them literally makes them stronger.
And, since we're basically space Vikings in our mentality, I expect suggestions of a side of rape to go with our bowl of pillaging.
>>
>>30788365
I agree
>>30788375
>Not to self: Include rape option
>>
>>30788375
Again, it comes back to QM management. Buu could still have been a thing had powerlevels not gotten so out of hand that one solid shot could end that fight. As for 16, we went with the button. I kinda wish we hadn't, but whatever.

And in terms of this character, I hope we don't just play him as anti-Goku. Two-dimensional evil is just as tedious and boring as two-dimensional good.
>>
>>30788472
Careful with that, though. The MC in Saiyan Story went from chaotic neutral to lawful good in like two threads
>>
>>30788472
>ad powerlevels not gotten so out of hand
But that's the problem. They always do, because Saiyans basically don't have a level cap. They have potential for infinite growth, and so there is no point where they are forced to be smarter, because they can just lift more.
>>30788492
That's just because /tg/ has a boner for justice.
>>
>>30788522
Som pulled a lot of punches with that, though; he through in a way out pretty much every time the MC was in risk of dying, so zenkai went absolutely nuts
>>
>>30788492

I really think that if you want this quest to be successful, you NEED to have dice-rolling mechanics.

Whenever Somnius fucked his players over, the players had no way to respond. Dice rolling at least gives the players a chance to overrule the QM at certain points, especially if the mechanics are clear to understand.

I'm a little worried by the fact that you think Somnius gave the players too much freedom, since that was a lot of the reason why I dropped Somnius' quest in the first place. We pretty much HAD to go to Earth eventually, HAD to fight Frieza, etc. Somnius once told us to stop bother looking for Dr. Gero because he wouldn't let us kill him anyways.
>>
>>30788583
He had two extremes; letting the players do whatever they wanted and railroading hard. He jumped between those two a lot, and it predictably caused a lot of problems.
>>
>>30788522
Introduce your character as a White Knight, spike his glass with thoughts of "The Greater Good", give him steroids in one hand and an evil waifu if the other, and then you can watch sink into depravity.

It always works for my DMing.
>>
>>30788562
Yes, they're called Senzu beans and Dragonballs.
If they weren't included, the quest would have ended months ago.
>>
>>30788583
To be perfectly honest, I agree with this a bit.

At least SOME dice rolling might not be bad for a game where we'll be fighting a lot.
>>
>>30788492
>The MC in Saiyan Story went from chaotic neutral to lawful good in like two threads
This is my biggest worry for this quest. Sayains aren't Lawful anything. It ruins the whole thing for me.
>>
>>30788619
>Introduce your character as a White Knight, spike his glass with thoughts of "The Greater Good", give him steroids in one hand and an evil waifu if the other, and then you can watch sink into depravity.
That's almost what Som did.
>Introduce your character as a dickass thief, allow the players to turn him into a White Knight, spike his glass with thoughts of "The Greater Good", give him steroids in one hand and 5 waifus if the other, and then you can watch sink into JUSTICE.
>>
>>30788627
Don't forget about all the votes that killed us, which he decided to pretend never happened.
>>
>>30788605

Right, and dice rolling helps to keep the players in line (because even the best-laid plans go to shit sometimes) and to keep a QM from steamrolling over his players because "that's not supposed to happen" (because sometimes the villain trips and totally whiffs his ULTRA ATTACK).

Basically, I think that the dice force the QM and players into a closer partnership. The players think more intelligently than they might otherwise and the QM is forced to stay open to new consequences that could arise at any time. It's a benefit for both sides.
>>
>>30788562
I'd tend to agree with this analysis.
>>30788492
I'd have been fine with LN. Basically, as nice as possible within character to the people you like. Indifferent to most people. Hell in a Cell to people you don't like.
>>30788583
I plan to wait and see, but I worry that we've exchanged one set of difficulties for another. Though near the end, SOM's writing was getting pretty sloppy, so that's been a trade-up so far. I can also do without his Android boner for a while... and I'm not talking the kind 18 gave me as a kid.
>>
>>30788660
The shitstorms that happened in those situations were indescribable
>>30788640
Eh, they can develop that way over a LONG period of time (Vegeta became somewhat decent after like twenty years on Earth, and even then he was kind of a dick)

>>30788694
This is my first quest, so the dice system is something I don't really understand. I'm going to get some sleep now, but in the future, I would appreciate advice on how it works and how to implement it in the quest; you might be right about it being necessary
>>30788704
At the end you could kind of tell he was just sort of giving up. Participation was as low as it was in his first thread, he'd exhausted most of his ideas, and he just seemed sick of it.
>>
>>30788660
>C: Blow up the planet
>>
>>30788640
Except in canon you've now got "good-hearted" Saiyans, and Saiyans who still cared about honor and pride well into PTO days (Bardock, Vegeta). Sure they tend towards chaotic evil, but it's not a hard and fast rule.
>>
>>30788492
>>30788640
>>30788651
>>30788704
I'd appreciate if we tried to just keep in mind that we are a member of a warrior race that does things like commit genocide and RP accordingly in that context.

>>
>>30788783
Bardock's concern for his crew and the survival of his race made sense, if he'd just suddenly gone full on hero, that would have been bullshit (looking at you Episode of Bardock)
>>
>>30788775
I mean reasonable votes that won, not troll votes. Like sneaking up on whichever waifu it was.

and it was B anyway, not C

>>30788768
just because the shitstorms were bad doesn't mean he should have caved in to the players

by doing that, somnius pretty much told them that if something happened in the quest that they didn't like for whatever reason, they could reverse it by freaking out. obviously not good.
>>
>>30788768
>don't understand dice systems
I only just started /tg/ shit and it's not at all hard.
Have the players roll for something. Say, d20.
>above 5 to succeed in an easy action
>above 10 to succeed in a moderately difficult action
>above 15 to succeed in a hard action
Or 25-50-75 for a d100 system.
>>30788810
>Let's please avoid this alignment shit
Why? It's good for categorization. Saiyans tend to be chaotic neutral, only out for themselves. Anything else is an anomaly. Goku is neutral good because he's brain-damaged. Broly is chaotic evil because he's fucking nuts.
>we are a member of a warrior race that does things like commit genocide and RP accordingly in that
That's still chaotic neutral. So you do, in fact, wish to rape some bitches?
>>
>>30788768
I'm a little divided about the whole thing, since I worked up a combat system, characters, and an initial plot arc for when SOM's threads finally died. On the one hand I wish you luck, on the other I kinda want to see you fail so I can take a shot after /tg/ recovers from two DBZ quests back to back. Nothing personal.

As for SOM, I admit I kinda went back and copied down all the dialogue from the last two main threads and the short "Epilogue" and started rewriting them. As long as the last of us stuck with it to see the ending, what we got was THAT disappointing.
>>
>>30788931
>by doing that, somnius pretty much told them that if something happened in the quest that they didn't like for whatever reason, they could reverse it by freaking out. obviously not good.

>>30788973
yes, thank you for repeating what I said, very helpful
>>
>>30788849

If you want a good handle on how dice mechanics in a quest should work, look at Shadow Quest.

The Quest itself is of above average quality, but I think the dice mechanics are really well done and very clear. Additionally, SQ benefits from an excellent abilities tree and very clear power progression for the players. A DBZ Quest could really benefit from something like this - could someone learn Kaio-Ken? Depends, do they already know how to power up and fly? An abilities tree can make these kinds of questions easier to answer.

Here's a link to all Shadow Quests on record. I wouldn't suggest reading them all unless you have a free two weeks.

>>
>>30789090
Using metaphors doesn't make you smart or cool. Sorry.
>>
>>30788948
I personally feel like when alignment comes into question then characters and stories become much more simple and boring. All of a sudden there are certain actions that you cannot do because they don't neccessarily ascribe to people's opinions of what is good/evil or lawful/chaotic.

We could play a good guy who sometimes does things that might be evil or an evil guy that sometimes does good things, and sometimes your actions are not wholly good/evil/lawful/chaotic however you look at them.

As for raping bitches?
maybe
>>
>>30789034
>The Quest itself is of above average quality
Not since the last couple of threads.
>>
>>30789090
And I was giving you a genuine, non sarcastic, completely heartfelt thanks. Double cockbite.

Speaking of Bardock, the movie made it clear that saiyans have power level caps. It was the whole reason their caste system was in place.

A good way to stop PL fuckery is to make them mostly constant. Afterall, Goku spent most all of Dragoball at the same power level (Canonically, something like a 100-180)
>>
>>30789158
Another way to stop PL fuckery is to actually make death a distinct possibility
>>
>>30789255
lol
yup
>>
>>30789255
But, i like consistent, rarely changing power levels...
>>
>>30789343
>>30789420

People won't abuse zenkai if they know our nameless main character could be vaporized by a couple of bad rolls or bad decisions.
>>
>>30789439
But, i like constant power levels, they make sense. Why else would all the saiyans, who spend all their time fighting, be so absurdly weak? Some of Frieza's random nobodies were as strong as raditz. And his ranking soldiers two or three times as strong as vegeta before his visit to earth.

Come to think of it, considering how absurdly weak all saiyans were before Goku's PL fuckery (which cause vegeta's PL fuckery), i can't even figure out why frieza was scared of them.
>>
>>30789674
Doesn't constant power levels kinda work against character development?
>>
>>30789858
Not really. You can learn techniques, acquire wealth or rank, meet people and achieve things of varying greatness.

You know, the way character development works in most movies, books and such.
>>
>>30789674
Because a lot of what the Saiyans did was fight weaker enemies. They got to a certain level and never passed it, because most of the stronger powers were either in the PTO already or were dealt with by their more Elite forces.
>>
>>30776895
you are... living on a planet known as Plant.

Fucking lost it one sentence into the thread.
