>They take out the leader in the race
Two weeks after your daring rescue, your mending is done, and Donna is back to full strength and then some. You find yourselves in a town to due east of the city wherein you found Donna. At the request of the ladies, you have agreed to take the long journey around the Red Sea to return home, expending the gold Riley gave you along the way. Donna seems to be treating it as a vacation, an excuse to get drunk at random pubs while you babysit Pearl.

On this particular day, you wake to the sound of heavy banging on the door of your hotel room. Pearl is curled up on the dining room table with a bottle of syrup, and Donna is no doubt sleeping off last night's festivities. The banging grows louder as you stir, rolling over on the couch and placing your bare feet on the floor.

"Sir! You need to answer this door, immediately! Sir!"

You get up and wipe your forehead. The banging continues, as does the irritating voice of the person behind it. You scan the room for your rifle, but it doesn't seem to be within sight. You check around the couch, the table, and the kitchen. Donna wouldn't have taken it, and Pearl doesn't have it.

The banging worsens. "Sir! If you don't open this door we're going to be forced to get the police involved!"

You approach Pearl and place a heavy hand on her ribs, then shake her until she wakes. She rolls over on the table, letting the syrup fall as she rubs her eyes.

"What's going on?" You explain the situation with the door. She points you at the icebox. Sure enough, you open it and find your rifle wedged between a bottle of cheap beer and half a cake. You pull it out and load a shell into the chamber. You then approach and open the door.

Something heavy impacts with your face, hitting you just above the bridge of your nose and driving you backward and into the coffee table. The glass surface shatters as you fall onto it, but thankfully it is constructed to prevent sharp shards from forming. When you look up, through spotty and starry vision, you see a large man in a tanktop and suspenders falling upon you.

You somersault backward just in time to avoid being smashed in the face a second time. All in the span of two seconds, you rise to your feet, realize your rifle is not within your reach, and notice that your attacker is armed with some sort of crude fist weapon. It resembles an iron shell covering his hand. As he tries to bring his tremendous body back to standing position, you lift your leg and stomp on his neck in an attempt to buy time. In the corner of your eye you spot a second invader making his way toward Pearl, who, in her drowsy state, seems unaware of what's going on.

You bound over the large man to get across the room, but as you land you are pulled by by the waist of your pants. He's grabbed you and yanks you backward, costing you your balance. You try to resist, but suddenly you feel his armored hand weave between your legs and hook around your thigh. You are lifted up into the air, then turned over in mid-air and slammed down on your back. You head bounces off of the carpeted floor. As he pulls you back up by your collar, you hear Pearl shouting something, but it is dulled by the throbbing in your head.

The large man now pulls you toward the window, planning who knows what when you arrive.

With a snap of your left wrist, a spring loaded blade is readied for your use. You swing it up at your handler, barely scraping his right eye. As he lurches toward you, you recall to the surface the months of training you had during the war. Although his size and strength are more than formidable, his anger weakens his balance, and you are able to hurl him into the shattered window. Unfortunately, his grip is fine, and he drags you with him. You feel his weight pulling you forward, and suddenly you are both out in the cool morning air. You begin to fall.

Thinking quickly, you use your blade and with one powerful swing, you cut his forearm deep, nicking the bone almost certainly. Blood sprays out, but his grip releases and you have just enough time to reach back and catch a ledge, leaving him to fall the remaining eight stories. You grab onto the ledge with both hands, and start pulling yourself up as quickly as possible.

You make it back to the broken window in time to see Pearl being pressed against the wall, as the man accosting her, a tall and lean cut of meat with rolled sleeves and slacks, reaches into his back pocket and produces a knife. You make it up, but you need to move fast. Your rifle is just a few feet in the wrong direction, but there may not be time to aim and fire.

You get to your feet and clumsily run at the man.

There is a loud bang, and you see a ball of flame streak by and take him in the back. You trip and fall to your knees as he is pressed up against Pearl, then falls onto his cooked back, lifeless. Your eyes dart to the right and you see Donna, rifle in hand, hair messed and still in her robe. Note that this one is of appropriate size and shape. The irritation in her eyes nearly cuts through the tension in the room.

You tell Pearl and Donna to gather their things so that you can leave this place as soon as possible. Pearl puts down her cake and begins shoveling her rifle and ammo into her bag. You remember that she's still only got two magazines left, since you haven't seen anybody carrying similar guns in weeks, and you aren't even sure this rifle actually exists anywhere else. Donna changes into her normal clothes, a red leather jacket and jeans. The outfit is nearly identical to the one she wore aboard the ship, only now she conceals her rifle beneath her jacket instead of openly carrying it on her back. You yourself haven't changed much, but you have gotten better at holding your metal arm still when you aren't using it. The fewer people notice it, the better.

Once everything is packed, you make for the door. As you and Donna exit, you notice Pearl bending over the dead man who had her pinned to the wall not ten minutes ago. You tell her to hurry, and she runs after you. The three of you make your way down the hall and toward the lift. As you step on, Pearl gets your attention and hands you a slip of paper, asking you to read it to her.

About my next thread, whenever it may be:

I've been thinking about what I might do next, and since there's more people than usual here I figured I should ask now. Would you guys prefer I go back to old style RtR, try a whole new setting like I did with this one, or maybe something else? I had an idea for a special episode, but I'm still working on it.

The lift reaches the ground floor and you step out. The people here seem spooked, but you ignore them, hoping to make it out before anyone notices anything suspicious. You get out the door and onto the street without incident. Once you're on the sidewalk, Donna asks if you'd rather skip town and move on, or stick around and see what happens. Your promise does perk Pearl up, and this in turn picks up the pace of the whole group as you make your way to the air station. You've plenty of coin left from Riley, but Donna's thirst and Pearl's stomach are going to make the last leg of the trip a rough one. As you prepare to board, you notice someone approaching you from the right. It appears to be one of the station workers, judging by his uniform. He makes clear eye contact with you as he draws near, and when he catches up to you he places a hand on your shoulder to stop you from walking.

"Ah, excuse me sir but I believe you dropped something as you were going through security. It's right over in the lost and found, please come to claim it if you'd like it back. It won't take but a moment, I promise."

Your threat does not fall on deaf ears. The man cringes a bit at your grip, helped by the mechanical arm. It doesn't take much effort to pull his arm away and lightly shove him so that you can step back in line. You keep eye contact a bit longer as he wrings his wrist from the pain. He seems to calculate his options before finally giving up and sulking back to wherever it is he came from. You turn back and catch up to Donna and Pearl, who are almost about to step onto the lift. From that point on, boarding goes smoothly. The ship leaves port without incident, but you can't help shake the nervous feeling. At the very least you've managed to teach her to wipe her mouth when she eats, so that's one less thing to worry about. You slide you plate out of the way and begin explaining things just as your father did for you on that evening long ago, right outside the beef ranch. Lacking a bull and cow for visual aids, you substitute the salt and pepper, as well as a juice bottle for emphasis. The speech lasts about eight minutes, and in your opinion is masterfully crafted. To cap the lecture, you try to explain that a person should only try to have babies with someone that is truly special and who you want to spend the rest of your life with. To your surprise, Pearl seems to take all this with a sincere face. Not once does she seem confused by the complex morality or your explanation of how paprika is made.

"I knew how to make babies, but I didn't know it was so complicated. Still, it sounds so romantic the way you explain it. It kind of makes me want to do it more. Hm. Now, you are worth just as much alive as dead, so if you'd be so kind as to send your lady friend off and come quietly, I could very well save on shells. What do you say?"

You instruct Pearl to go and stay with Donna. Despite your exclusion of the obvious, you can tell by the look she gives you that she understands the situation. She walks past the two men, long red braid dancing in the breeze, and makes her way below deck.

You are left alone with Calvin and Kuro. You draw the rifle from your hip. Four fire shells, three blue shells. Seeing this, both of your pursuers draw their own weapons. Kuro unwraps the cloth and reveals something very akin to a sword, though of a variety the likes of which you've never encountered. It is curved, much like a saber, but quite narrow and long. He wields it in both hands and takes a stance you'd have only thought the people of ancient times to use.

"I'm going to give you another chance to reconsider. Place that rifle on the floor and put your hands in the air and nobody will have to be stuffed into a bag before this ship lands."

You raise the rifle and aim quickly. When you squeeze the trigger, a ball of bright flame erupts from the barrel and tears through the air. Though the breeze here knocks the shot off course just a bit, you are confident in your ability to hit your target. Seeing the incoming shot, Kuro does something that until just recently you would have assumed unthinkable. He raises his sword above his head, and with one powerful downward stroke, he knocks the shot out of the air. It collides with the deck, burning it black.

Calvin opens fire with his pistol. The roar of the thing is like a beast. Fire, jet, and fire make their way towards you, forcing you to raise your arm in defense. You sleeve is ripped apart and burned, revealing the black and copper arm beneath. It is hard to keep it up through the barrage, but you manage. However, in the time you needed to defend, Kuro has begun to dash toward you, sword ready to strike.

Kuro reaches you in record time, and slashes with his sword. You manage to catch it in your hand, but his strength isn't to be underestimated. Keeping the blade from breaking free and tearing into you takes a tremendous amount of focus. Seeing this as clearly the more pressing threat, you attempt to raise your rifle and shoot Calvin in order to tip the scales in your favor. With great effort, you maneuver to fire. The shot again flies true, but these men have no end of surprises. With the fluid motion of a practiced whore, Calvin bends over backwards, placing his head and shoulders on the ground as he bends his knees. The shot goes over his belly, and he slowly raises himself back up.

"Haha, we don't go after 80,000 bounties because we think we're lucky, boy. Kuro!"

The blade in your hand is pulled away from you, and before you have a chance to react, Kuro slashes at your right arm. The cut isn't deep, but for some reason you begin to feel a numbness take your finer control from you. You can barely keep the rifle straight, let alone fire. Calving seems content to line up his shots now as Kuro keeps you distracted, and you are pressed backward toward the ship's railing, parrying Kuro's blade as well as you are able.

Kuro takes a short step back, and goes for a lunge, hoping to sink his blade into your belly.

You switch your rifle back to your right hand just in time to stop Kuro's blade as it comes in. You return to the exhausting practice of defending against the blade as you try to find an opening to attack, but something about his movements seem much more ferocious now. He attacks much faster, leaving you with little to no time to breath. Finally, you are too slow to succeed and you are punished with a slash across both legs. You fall backward onto the deck of the ship, you legs already beginning to numb. Kuro begins hammering down upon you with his blade, toying with you as you raise your arm to block him.

"Help me, you rice loving son of a bitch!" You hear Calvin cry out, and look over to see the cause. Calvin is desperately trying to reload his gun without the use of his burned hand as your companions reach the top of the deck. Donna opens fire on Calvin, forcing him to dodge out of the way. Perl seems confused as to how to proceed now, but she seems to favor firing at Kuro.

With Kuro distracted, you snap your wrist and ready your blade. With little of your body under full control, you are left with no other option but to drive the blade into his lower legs. With a cry of pain, Kuro falls to the floor. You throw yourself on him, plunging the blade in again and again until he no longer moves.

You look up and see something you'd never expect. With their guns dry, Donna and Pearl work together to shove Calvin over the side of the ship. His own pistol lays harmlessly on the floor behind them, as he screams and begs for mercy. He thrashes, bashing his fists and elbows into them, but the two of them together have just enough strength to overpower him. You watch as Pearl lifts his legs and tosses him over, and you can hear him scream for a good forty feet of the drop. After that, either the engines or the ground will take him.

You lie on the ground, unable to move you organic limbs. Pearl runs over to you to check your wounds. They really aren't that deep, and should only require some bandaging to heal, and yet they feel heavy as stone. Donna arrives, sliding her rifle back into concealment.

"Now's not the time to be shy. You saw me, now it's my turn. Cmon girl, help me do this." Without any strength left in your organic limbs, and fearful that resisting with your false arm could injure your comrades, you cannot resist. You feel the blood rise in you as Pearl and Donna peel away your clothes until you're in nothing but your boxer shorts. Pearl holds up your arms as Donna cleans and bandages the cuts. The disinfectant stings to the point that you can feel tears welling in your eyes.

"Oh come on, I thought you were some kind of big cock soldier man. Just hold on a minute more and we'll get the baby a bottle." Donna finishes wrapping you and you force yourself to stand. "Fine, if you absolutely must. I'll meet you there." Donna makes her way to the bar as Pearl helps you gather up and put on your clothes. As you dress, you ask her if she's alright.

"It's really hard to decide. I don't even really know how to say what I want. Those animals did it all the time, I don't get why it's so hard." You tell her to try and get it out of her head for now. She takes several deep breaths and seems to relax. With that done and your clothes back on, the two of you head to the bar.

Donna is already waiting for you there with three bottles of cold beer. The bar is somewhat lively for being the early morning, but you suppose some may just be here to get out of the elements. You sit on either side of Donna and accept the drink from her. She quickly turns her attention to Pearl.

"So you say she's not human? I have to wonder if she gets drunk like a human. Only one way to find out, right?" You shrug and take a drink from your beer. "Here Pearl, drink some of this and tell me what you think."

Pearl takes the bottle apprehensively. She sniffs it, seems displeased with the taste, but at Donna's beckoning she drinks it anyway. Her face scrunches and she looks like as if she wants to spit it out, but she does not. Donna laughs and pats her on the shoulder. "She's a natural. That's the exact face I made when I had my first drink. Have some more then." Donna forces more drink down Pearl's throat. You think of stopping her, but to your surprise Pearl does seem to grow more accustomed to the stuff with each sip. Eventually, the three of you find a nice relaxing pace and settle into conversation.

You finish your fourth bottle and order a new one before changing the subject of the conversation. You try to discreetly mention to Donna that Pearl is having some troubles that she might understand better than you. It takes a few tries, but eventually Donna seems to catch on. She turns to Pearl and asks about what she's feeling.

"It's nothing! Why'd you have to tell her, you...um... you fucking! You're a fucking!"

The two of you raise your eyebrows at Pearl's attempt to use a new word. She has the right emphasis, but not the meaning. Donna places a hand on her shoulder and asks her again what the matter is. Pearl wriggles away and falls off of her stool. You step down, wobbling slightly, to make sure she hasn't hurt her head. Donna approaches as well, and the both of you kneel down. Pearl rolls on the ground for a moment before finally resting on her back and closing her eyes.

"I want to make babies. I don't know why, but it sounds like the most fun and important thing in the whole world right now. I never wanted this when I was in my lagoon! Why do I have to want it now?"

Donna giggles slightly and you can feel the color rising in your cheeks a bit. "I think you should take her to the room." You look at Pearl. She's barely aware of the world, and you're still barely able to walk under your own power. Still, a nap will probably do her good.

You reach the room and manage to open the door with one hand without collapsing.

You drop Pearl into a bed and help her get her boots off before lifting her legs into the bed and covering her with a light blanket. Just as you are about to leave her, you think you hear her say your name. You turn back around and kneel slightly to hear her better.

"...mmbaby...you want to make a baby mmmb.." You ask her to repeat herself. Suddenly her hand shoots up and grab onto your collar tighter than you ever would have expected from Pearl. You attempt to deflect the idea as Pearl uses you to support her efforts to get back to her feet. She leans on you, wobbling and gripping any part of your shirt for security.

"Liar! I know! You're just like a big boar! You're gonna give her flowers and show off your horns to her! And then you're gonna make a big bed out of grass and make babies with her! You're gonna make five babies! And then you're gonna bring her fruit and nuts when she feeds the babies and then when they grow up you'll make more babies! You're just a big papa pig who wants to make all the babies! Well you can't! You're not allowed to make babies with Donna! I'm gonna make babies with Donna! She's gonna feed me yummy things while I feed our babies and we're never gonna leave each other!" You try to calm Pearl down as she screams absurd thoughts at you, but she is too far gone. "If you want to make babies with her then I'll do what the pigs do! I'll beat you up, and you'll never try to make babies with Donna ever!" Pearl begins limply butting her head into your chest and stomach, growling as she does so. It would likely be more effective if she was doing it from more than two inches from you, but if she tried that she'd likely fall over due to her impaired balance.

You take the bottle you left on the bar back up and have a drink before responding. Donna raises an eyebrow, seemingly unsure about how to respond. The two of you spend the rest of the afternoon drinking and shooting the breeze, as well as playing a rousing game of marine darts, which is essentially just darts while the players are drunk on a swaying ship. Fatalities increase by 87%.

After you've had your fun, you return to the room. Donna goes right to bed, and you go to check on Pearl. You open the bedroom door and shut it just as quick. To look any longer would have been rude.

It was later explained that she had been expecting Donna to enter first.
