>The word "early" is often pronounced as "earl-aye" in modern performances. Publications in the 19th and early 20th century, however, did not note this was the case. Neither the field recordings of Richard Maitland by Alan Lomax (1939) nor those of several veteran sailors in Britain by James Madison Carpenter in the 1920s use this pronunciation. Yet on his popular recording of 1956, Burl Ives pronounced "earl-eye." Subsequently, Stan Hugill, whose influential Shanties from the Seven Seas was published in 1961, stated in that work that the word was "always" pronounced "earl-aye," but his statement is belied by the considerable body of earlier evidence.

The game does have one of the best settings I've ever seen. The entire thing is perfectly dark and twisted, without crossing over into full grimderp. IF you go low chaos, you get to a point of light amid the filth and darkness, and if you go high chaos, it fits right in with the rest of the brutal world.

the sad part about this thread isn't that most amerifats ITT don't know the song. sure, it's a shame, but times change and one day "early 2nd millennium" music will probably be a thing, and you'll have "classically trained" musicians familiar with such classics as lady gaga who has sold more than the beatles. because really, what makes culture more than money, especially in music? the beatles are shit too but that doesn't keep plebs who want to seem old school from liking them

no, the real tragedy is that it reminds me of my youth when we knew the pledge of allegiance, and that most people under 30 don't understand the significance of it and just yell LOL PATRIOTISM IS JUST STUPID NATIONALISM, HAVING PRIDE JUST BECAUSE YOU WERE BORN SOMEWHERE GET A LOAD OF THIS GUY

every time I hear this I think to myself, "it's okay, one day the sun will go super nova and end it all"

consider the following list:
>drunken sailor
>the pledge of allegiance
>what an actual pledge of allegiance is
>the modern military defense of the united states
>judeo christian tradition

I mean really, if you are reading this in the USA and aren't familiar with all of these, just please get the fuck out of this country now

No, it was unexpectedly like Thief for a 2012 game. Sort of undermined by the relative ease of a violent/combat playthrough, but it's not like someone's forcing you to play that way.

Also, one of the best vidya-original settings I've seen. The combined God/Satan/Cthulhu/Anonymous deity that is the Outsider is alone worth giving the game a go for. Seriously, that arsehole basically gives people superpowers for the lulz.

Haven't played the new one yet. Looked fine from a certain internet celebrity's review, but may be too linear - he did complain about that, but couldn't really show it.

Guess I'll wait for it to go on sale.

Back to Dishonored, did the low chaos ending seem much less interesting and fitting to the rest of the game than the high chaos one?
>>
>>30764220
The new game is alright. It's something I'd have enjoyed more if I'd never played the original games and had nothing to compare it to. And even then there's some annoying "cinematic" railroading at a few points, with Garrett getting caught and having to run even though I went through the whole area undetected. But I did enjoy it. I'd suggest playing on Master with some of the custom options turned on though.

It's a sequel to Deadly Shadows, not to TDP/TMA.

Oh, the year was M138
HOW I WISH WAS ON TERRA NOW
When a Letter of Trade came from the Throne
To the scummiest vessel that's ever flown.

Warp damn them all, I was told
That I'd cruise the stars for Dark Eldar gold!
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears
Now I'm a broken man on a Mechanicus pier
the Last Imperial Privateer.

Now the Emperor's Navy cried the vox
How I wish Was on Terra now
For ten thousand brave men, all spacers who
would make quite well the GOLDENHIND'S crew.

Warp damn them all, I was told
That I'd cruise the stars for Dark Eldar gold!
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears
Now I'm a broken man on a Mechanicus pier
the Last Imperial Privateer.

Now the GOLDENHIND was a sickening sight
How I wish I was on Terra now
Her Gellar Field was rent to rags
and the Mechanicus priest had the shakes and the jags

Warp damn them all, I was told
That I'd cruise the stars for Dark Eldar gold!
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears
Now I'm a broken man on a Mechanicus pier
the Last Imperial Privateer.

On Emperor's Day we sailed away
How I wish I was on Terra now
We were 90 light-years from Montego Star
and losing our crew's minds all the way

Warp damn them all, I was told
That I'd cruise the stars for Dark Eldar gold!
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears
Now I'm a broken man on a Mechanicus pier
the Last Imperial Privateer.

In the twentieth year we sailed again
How I wish I was on Terra now
When a frakkin great Craftworld hove in sight
With our cracked plasma cannons we made to fight

Warp damn them all, I was told
That I'd cruise the stars for Dark Eldar gold!
We'd fire no guns, shed no tears
Now I'm a broken man on a Mechanicus pier
the Last Imperial Privateer.

Then at length we stood two AU away
How I wish I was on Terra now
Our plasma guns made an awful din
But one broadside done stove us in

>>30755723
I was extremely disappointed. It's clear from the design and some of the interviews that they originally intended it to have Thief's stealth mechanics (and for spells to cost health instead of mana), and that combined with some of the beautiful levels would have made up for the shitty story.

Instead we got crappy "shadows provide no concealment, leaning is a magical cloak" + teleporting stealth. That combined with the shitty story meant really the only redeeming quality was the art direction, and even then it wasn't consistently good.

Particularly disappointing because Arkane's previous game, Dark Messiah, actually did have excellent Thief-like stealth, so it's clear they knew how to do it properly.

I prefer this following version, sung to the "drunken sailor" tune, line repetition for each verse suppressed for brevity:

>What shall you do when you leave the army?

>Run like hell to the nearest boozer

>What shall you do when you get to the boozer?

>Drink like hell til the boozer closes.

>What shall you do when the boozer closes?

>Run like hell to the nearest whorehouse.

>What shall you do when you get to the whorehouse?

Ooray, UP she rises.

>What shall you do nine months later?

>Run like hell to the nearest army

I like old songs like this, I sing them with my reenactment group while drinking heavily into the night. As well as the classics "Johnny I hardly knew yer" and "Mrs McGrath" amongst others we also can't help but sing "On Ilkley Moor bar t'at" but that's because were mostly from Yorkshire.

>Then t'worms'll come and et thee up, et thee up. On Ilkley moor bar t'at.

When written down, its like I'm speaking one of those faux-alien language with all the apostrophe's.

Horus: Lorgar, Brother, what madness is this?

Lorgar: Madness? Oh Horus lad... if that's what you're thinking, you'd be dead wrong.

When I was in my campaign, after my humiliation, the chaos gods said "boy, you should deserve some reparation
While you could be a slave, lacking your free will,
My boy why not just go and main, burn, kill?"

Hey ho ho, you'll cruise through foreign lands,
And you'll keep your soul and body free by killing out of hand.
True heresy and freedom are what we can't live without, and when you're a professional traitor,
That's what the job's about!

"Upstage lads, this is one of the only bits of lore I'm actually relevant in"

Now take old Leman Russ, The thousand sons despise him,
But to the wolves he's a hero and they idolize him.
It's how you look at psychopaths that makes them bad or good, and I see us as members of a ruinous brotherhood!

Hey ho ho, we're all pious men,
and if the Emperor spurns us, we'll all just worship them.
On occasion there may be someone you have to sacrifice, but when you're a professional traitor,
Eliphas: You don't have to keep it nice!
...what?

Erebus: I could have been a Chaplain, I take my faith to heart.
Kor Phaeron: I could have been a techpirest but I really don't look the part.
Eliphas: I could have been in Government, because I always seem to bounce back.
Ingethel: and me, I could have been wearing the Flak.

Some say that traitors corrupt, and should be feared and hated,
I say we're victims of good morals, it's all exaggerated.
Though we'd probably stab you in the back, as well as lie and cheat,
We're still about the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet!

Tell the truth, Brother. Do you really think Our father will share the galaxy with the likes of us?
Can't hear you, no?
And we being the rightful owners, who shed our blood conquering it!
Join us, worship the dark powers and get your rightful share!

Hey ho ho, it's all for one for all,
and we'll let the galaxy burn with you while we watch our father fall.
We're righteous servants of the gods and that's what we're proud to be,
and when you're a professional traitor...
You'll be honest feard and free!
The soul of heresy!
You'll be disloyal yet fair, you'll rip and tear but most importantly,
When you're a professional traitor...
You're always in the best of company!

As a sailor, you guys made my night. Threads like these are what keeps me coming back to /tg/.
It really goes like this in the US Navy:
Send him to the med bay till he's sober
Send him to the med bay till he's sober
Send him to the med bay till he's sober
Erl-eye in the morning.

OP again, did not expect such a response.
Shoulda known /tg/ would have a lot to do with a drunken sailor.

Anyways, best board easily.
