Previously: A young rocket met her friend, recently recovered from surgical modification that's put her at odds with others. The young rocket swears to take care of herfriend and guide her downa proper path.
A hug and a call later, they're shopping in Cekladon with a verdant and fashionable Rocket Cadet.

Learning of a wild dog's history during their shopping venture, The young rocket gains insight as to her fellows' relation with each other and her spooky friend warms up to a new living person.

With a day behind them, they retire for the evening only to be called into an emergency mission!

A storm's been brewing outside of the dome for the better part of a week.

What lies in wait for this Young Rocket within the open ocean?

Stay tuned to find out!

Marshtomp live in the Ocean.

Probably around Deltas but still ocean.

>>30742451
Well, the Dome does seem big enough to put a city in it. Wonder exactly how big it would be to contain about 8 different quarters, each with their own culture.
>>
>>30742431
Marshtomp is a mud fish, so it'd be there.

Feraligatr is based on alligators, so would be confined in fresh water areas. Crocanaws, however, are apparently crocodiles, so they'd be able to cross the ocean. However, they don't live in them; they just cross through while heading to other areas. So meeting one would be exceedingly rare.
>>
>>30742588
That's right around the area Cycling Road is in canon, though. And the question still stands, why is there ruined highway outside the dome?

Now you don't make any sense at all.
>>
Dawn came and you sortied with the other rangers. Bruise was consigned to take care of Lilac during your absence by Boss's order.

You suited up, receiving ten syringes of antidote, paralyze heal, and ten auto-awakenings to be administer by you CGS outfitted with aquatic proofing. You'd requisitioned a Volt Bident as they instructed you to be prepared however this was turned down due to the high demand and a no records of you training with polearms in the last two years.

It'd have gotten in the way of your guns anyway.

You sit under the deck of the ship awaiting deployment as water pounds away at the deck overhead. Sanna and Marine are next to you, anxiety gripping them both. You know it's Marine's first time outside of the dome. Sanna says that it isn't her first, but she doesn't want it to be her last.

She's a bit out of place here as a ranger that trained primarily with Celadon up until her acceptance into the Rockets. She qualifies as a marine ranger so long as she's equipped with a rebreather. She's assigned to ship duty while you and Marine are assigned to Search and Rescue.

It's your job to save lives. Leader Misty speaks to everyone, letting them know what to expect. She's in full ranger uniform, with her custom uniform allows for the fin-wings of her back proper clearance. There's a seriousness to her decorum and posture that you'd never witnessed back during your days training with her. This is Leader Misty when she means business.
>>
“Teams Alpha, Braver, and Cors are assigned to rescuing survivors from the wreckage. We need everyone off that ship before the next boat arrives. Teams Don, Esp and Far, will control the perimeter and provide backup to Alpha, Braver, and Cors if they require an assist. All reserve units will assist survivors and coordinate via short-range anything the survivors have to say regarding cargo.
When the second boat arrives the ship will be repaired and a skeleton crew will steer it back home.

There's no sign that this storm is going to let up. This operation needs to be quick and clean.

Operational hazards will be monsters, raging seas, and a strong underwater current not far from this rock the ship's crashed upon.
Monsters native to this area include Tentacool that we all know as Zubat of the sea, Sharpedo which is known for attacking ships at random despite Repel-tech, and a possibility of other unknowns given the size of this storm. Good luck and may Arceus give you speed and grace rangers. We're going to need every bit of it today!”

Misty ends the debriefing, opening a hatch and proceeding above deck to survey. As she does so, water pours in from the frightful tempest that lies just outside. You wonder at how she keeps her footing even as the boat rocks and crashes upon the waves, silently skimming them where it can and losing all contact at some intervals due to the nature of its speed. You check your index for Sharpedo. The image is blurry one taken in haste after the thing made a hole in the hull of a ship. Its great mouth looks like it could gnaw through even steel if given the chance. Or maybe your imagination is just filling in the blanks?

It's logged as an evil type with no notations on capture. It's thought to be an evolved form but its unevolved form has yet to be discovered.

“Always the studious one, aint ya?” You hear from your side. Sanna's looking over your shoulder, a bit quesy looking from the waves. Some of the other rangers aren't looking too hot themselves.

“Knowing is half the battle, right? If we win one part of it, we get an edge. Kitty told us that didn't she.”
“Yeah. She did. But sometimes look'n through that thing's intim- intimidat'n.” Sanna looks greener than usual even as she attempts to keep her composure.

The rocking doesn't bother you though. It's facing wild monsters again. Outside of the dome. It's nervewracking. What's more, one look at Marine and you can see how stoked she is even with the poor lighting in the underdeck. She's giddy. It's her first time outside of the dome and she's giddy.

“'Ey Marine? What're ya grinnin' about?” Sanna almost belches out, her condition worsening bit by bit.

Marine takes one look at Sanna and just about laughs, though she stops with a shake of her head,”I'm just excited, it's our first mission outside of the dome.” She slams her hardened shell-knuckles together, delivering a fierce percussion like bone on bone.
“I'm so stoked to see how I can handle a monster now that I'm stronger. Aren't you Cerulean?”

Let's try not to douse Marine's enthusiasm, but we should remind her of where her priorities should be. It's nice that she's excited to test out her implants against some monsters, but she should prioritize caution and safety above all else.
>>
>>30743106
>>[] "Just do your best Marine."

We should try to capture something, preferbly a Sharpedo. That would be a great bonus.
>>
>>30743106
>[] "We're here to rescue people. You're with me in Braver."
>>30743227
Sounds good. We don't want to scare Marine more than necessary. We want her to keep her confidence, but we don't want her to be OVERconfident.
>>
>>30743227
Nah, she's the type to like fighting. But if she goes into this with that attitude, she's gonna get herself, or worse, us hurt because of carelessness.

>>
>>30743306

>>
>>30743106
>>[X] "Just do your best Marine."
>>
The best part is Sharpedo has access to Speed Boost.
>>
>>30743106
Prof, from how far away can Sanna control her tentacles? How long can she control them after detachment? And how well can our communication equipment work in this storm?

It might be prudent to ask Sanna to hand us a tentacle. Us and Marine, perhaps. We could use the tentacles to release impromptu paralyze spore attacks if we radio her which one (Ceru or Marine's) to release it in.
>>
>>30743455
>Implying spore attacks work underwater
I dunno how that would even work.
>>
>>30743430
>>30743253
>>30743106
>It's logged as an evil type with no notations on capture. It's thought to be an evolved form but its unevolved form has yet to be discovered
It has no notes on whether they want it captured. They know of it and have captured them before. They're useless for implants.
>>
>>30743479
We'll be rescuing shipwrecked civilians, so expect some monsters to come up to the surface.
>>
>>30743479
its makes the ocean a giant batch of paralysis tea, the least popular tea known to man and several pokemon
>>
>>30743479
It'd become like a liquid cloud of its own underwater.
>>
>>30743496
Makes sense.

>>30743493
Can we get a couple of tentacles from Sanna? And how do spores work underwater? Would it just release some sort of cloud underneath?
>>
>>30743499
I dunno, I'd imagine Poison Powder / Toxic tea is less popular.
>>
>>30743493

Oh. Then why are they still using a blurred picture instead of the captured Sharpedo?
>>
>>30743534
Maybe by the time they captured it, the thing was all bloody and beat up.
>>
>>30743534
To show how it looks in the wild. And what it does to ships.
You don't get that from the thing floating in a tank effectively asleep.
>>
>>30743499
It would also affect us.
>>
>>30743577
Yeah this
No spore tea, please.
>>
>>30743499
Wait, it would?
I remember in the show watching a Staryu wash off paralysis spores with water in the Misty fight...

Of course that might have just been an ability, but still.
>>
>>30743577
We've got Hydration.

And we'd just have to keep out of the way from where we release the stun spores. At least until it's been diluted by the ocean current.
>>
>>30743759
Hydration takes resting in the water.

Prof has said this multiple times.
>>
>>30743846
Yeah. And we can rest in the water. We're working in teams, after all.
>>
>>30743902
That would be suicidal if we're fighting a Sharpedo.
>>
>>30743567
Hey, Prof, I remember this from last thread

>Alter some abilities and increase the range of learnable moves.

What abilities were altered by our Remoraid implants' evolution into Octillery implants?
>>
>>30743902
HOURS it takes.

And this is a quick in and out mission. Don't be stupid.

And we don't want to waste our antidotes and paralyze heals.
>>
>>30743962
And the Sharpedo would be paralyzed?

It's not like we need to shove the tentacle into its mouth or anything. We could simply attach it to an ice shard and shoot it at its body. It's called stun spore, after all, so just contact with the body would be fine.
>>
>>30744028
Stun spore is ineffectual underwater. It is also raining. In the case that an aquatic monster is landed for capture Stun spore is highly effective.
>>
>>30744028
You're being stupid again. You can't shoot projectiles underwater. Plus that thing would be releasing it while attached to us.
>>
Did the anon that said they'd write a ceruxlilac smut fic do it yet?
>>
>>30744076
Why would it be releasing while attached to us?

>>30744065
Can we not shoot projectiles underwater? It seems silly, given the force with which we can normally fire above water.
>>
>>30744136
The force of water gun would effectively be a water jet. Ice shard would operate normally if need be though a pure watergun would be better for movement.
>>
>>30744136
Because we aren't controlling it. So we don't have a remote fire for it.
>>
>>30744187
The idea was to radio Sanna when to release the spores.
>>
>>30744208
She's got her own job in this, tending to the wounded.
>>
>>30744178
Hey, Prof, our Premature Freezer Array improves our ice moves by 1 rank, but I have to ask if the current conditions of the area we're going to will provide any bonuses for our water type moves too?
>>
>>30744208
That takes unnecessary time. Besides we aren't supposed to be fighting, just grab and run.
>>
>>30744251
And the idea was to paralyze any monsters so we wouldn't have to engage in a drawn out fight with them.
>>
>>30744178
Just a few facts about Sharpedo, since you guys are worried about it.

>Can swim 75-80 mph in an instant, but isn't suited for long distance chases. Can propel it out of the water like a missile (or torpedo der)
>Teeth that are broken grow back immediately.
>Eyes glow in the dark a deep red
>Travel in large packs, and known as 'bully of the sea'.
>Teeth sharp enough to tear through Supertanker iron hull

In summary
>You can not run
>You can not hide
>If Sharpedo is comin'
>We all gonna die.
>>
>>30744270
We're going to be running anyway. Or have Marine provide disraction because she has armor and won'r get fucked up nearly as easily.
>>
>>30744232
Prof, so long as you're answering questions
>>30743984
What improvements to our moves did our implants' evolution give?
>>
>>30744343

>>
>>30744313
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbRHMdT4DS0

Here you go
>>
>>30744313
Given our eyesight, we'd be able to spot Sharpedo underwater.

And I'm not sure about Marine, but depending on what implants she has, she should have a fin on her head that can act like a radar. So together, we'd be able to detect a Sharpedo easily enough to prepare for it.

>>30744232
Does Marine have Mudkip's headfin?
>>
“Marine, we're here to rescue people, okay? We're on Braver, we're not here to fight unless they get past the other teams and Leader Misty.” You look at your friend by a half-glance as you adjust from another rock of the boat clearing a wave.
You hear Sanna letting all her sick out in a bucket a friendly ranger with blue markings, Long ears and sleek shiny fur along her arms. The Ranger pats her back.
“Sorry you have to stay on the ship hun, then again you might be better off.” The Blue Ranger smiles to you and Marine.
“I'm Nana, I'll be working with you two in Squad Braver along with another senior ranger, Chuckie. I'm strong and capable of listening for survivors beyond structure damage. Chuckie's best at gnawing through things. And firing from a distance.”

You introduce yourself,“Cerulean, I'm good at shooting and I'm a strong swimmer. I can also freeze things if need be.”
Marine does the same,” Marine, I'm armored as shell and strong. I can sense with my fins and I'm really strong.”

Nana bows her head sagely, a pleasant smile upon her button-nosed face and cute unscarred features. This woman must not get out of the dome often. If anything you could tell, she's likely better suited for support scenarios such as these.
“Pleased to make your acquaintance. I hope we all live through the day.” She turns her head and offers her hand to a man sleeping at her other side,”This is Chuck by the way.

The man has similarly slick fur over his body aside from his face, large incisors protruding and a flat tail laying lazily on the side of the bench.
Despite appearing lazy and relaxed something tells you that there's more to this guy's slumber than just sawing logs.
“Don't mind him, he'll be ready as soon as we're called up. I'll be the leader for Squad Braver this time around, do your best, okay?”
>>
>>30744497

You nod, staring at the lady. She's really nice. You'd definitely expect her to be from Cerulean gym like yourself given her calm demeanor. It's kind of like Misty, except-well, not Misty.
“Yes Ma'am!” Marine salutes and you follow, bidding Nana to only raise a hand.
“No time for that...” She looks down to Sanna, and pats the Celadon Ranger's head,”Turn around, I'll help you out a bit.”

Sanna gives the woman a bit of a stink eye before complying,” Noth'ns gunna make it w'rse..”

Nana massages Sanna's back and she starts looking better almost right away as she gives into the older ranger's molding of her tissue.

The pre-mission tension's left knots in your stomach, but nothing enough to get you sick like that. Gotta get ready, gotta think. But what could prepare you for this?

Hey Prof, would you mind adding in the +1 from the freezer array on the Ice moves in the pastebin? It would help make things more clear.

>Aurora Beam(0): A weak, though chilling beam is fired upon the enemy, the dazzling colors can drive simpler foes into a state of confusion.

>Frost Breath(3+1): Spew a deceptively cold breath at creeps through armor. Can penetrate into vital locations. (10 stam)

> Icy Wind (4+1): You have refined your power over ice, allowing you to conjure up a wind that generates lasting frost frost in passing, and a chill that breaches the skin. (7 Stam)

>Ice Shards (2+1): An attack performed by flash freezing water into ice and then deftly throwing it at the enemy. 3 Stam(Requires thrown weapon training for long range.)

>Ice Ball(0.5+1): Performed by freezing water into a ball as you launch it. Training may shed more light on this concussive attack.

>Ice Fang(0): An attack done via chilling fangs to leave a bite that chills the flesh, chilling the blood. (7)

Leader Misty comes back down the hatch, more rain misting in from the deck as she hangs half-off the ladder,”Closing in on the Mission Site! All hands to your stations! Reserves prepare to handle coms and emergency aid, Alpha, Braver, Cors get ready to jump at the bow! Don and Far get ready to dive at Starboard and Port-side. Esp get ready to support them with your Psi! I want any disturbances reported yesterday! Come on people!”

Everybody moves as a unit, clambering up the other hatches one after the other. You're surprised how fast Chuckie's eyes snap open, and the man rises looking a bit more portly than You'd have reckoned, whiskers twitching from a groomed mustache as he hurries on up just after you and Sanna with Nana at the lead.

The wind howls across the boat with harsh wind amidst the almost tropical warmth and heavy raindrops that splatter across the surface of the ship. Between the puddles that quickly drain out over the deck and the rolling waves you're thankful for the slip-proof and grooved plasteels of the deck that give just enough traction.

You stand at the fore, team Braver in the middle of the lineup for diving. You cast a glance to the two senior rangers at your side as they fit themselves with rebreathers and do the same for yourself due to the built in coms for a test.

Nana's voice comes through first,”Testing coms, testing. Copy?”
“Cerulean here, Copy.” You repeat.
Chuckie's next for the same, then Marine.

This way your team can hear each other underwater, and if need be, you can hear other ranger by swapping frequency at the press of a button.

The boat hits a wave and slips right through a great one that had obscured your view. Everyone hangs onto the railing for the brief moment that you all see the sea-life. Some fish and a couple monsters that ignore you all due to the vehicle-mounted Repeltech.

Is there any reason that Sharpedo is unsuitable for grafting? Is it just too violent to effectively harvest, or is it like in Pacific Rim, where its biology is such that you can't harvest it.
>>
>>30745403
Hey Prof, can you answer these questions
>Should we have gotten a tenacity bonus from when we trained Psybeam due to the Macho Brace
>What changed when we got Octillery implants (possible access to upper ranks we didn't know we couldn't reach before, offensive/defensive/tactical bonuses, new unlockable moves, etc.)?

>>30745483

We can only graft unevolved parts. So either basic or baby evolutions only (although the latter is unconfirmed).
>>
>>30745403

>>
>>30745483
Grafts require the unevolved form of a pokemon that evolves, if it evolves. Sharpedo won't work, though Carvhana will.

>>30745513
>>Should we have gotten a tenacity bonus from when we trained Psybeam due to the Macho Brace
You test-fired and discovered Psybeam. Your aptitudes will be increased the next time you fire the moves that were upgraded.
>>30745513
>>What changed when we got Octillery implants (possible access to upper ranks we didn't know we couldn't reach before, offensive/defensive/tactical bonuses, new unlockable moves, etc.)?
You can learn a wider variety of shooting moves with some loose level restriction. I'll update it if you guys get stuck on a particular decision.
>>
>>30745483
>Is there any reason that Sharpedo is unsuitable for grafting?
Because they aren't basic pokes. If you want Sharpedo rangers, get a Carvanha implant and evolve it.

As soon as that wave is cleared you see a ship that's hanging out in the middle of the sea, tipping over one its port-side with a giant rock supporting its girth. Not the largest ship, likely manned by at least fifty people, six rangers on guard duty.
You all knew it's missing due to its tardiness. Any ship not on schedule is presumed to be wrecked. You learned that from Leader Misty. This one is definitely a wreck, but they were lucky to have landed on a rock.

Over all coms you catch Leader frequency,”Don and Far, Dive!”

The rangers jump in among the waves, shortly after hitting the next wave, the boat turns abruptly with jets erupting from its starboard to forcibly extinguish further forward momentum.
This Rescue boat was built for speed and maneuverability.

“Alpha through Cors, Dive!”

With your heart pitter-pattering in your chest, your body moves as it's told to despite getting rocked by the boat's maneuvers. You clear the railing and land in the water feet-first as you'd been taught, entering into the rocky waves.

The saltwater hits and you open your eyes, taking your first breath through your gills and rebreather. The salt is a bit uncomfortable, but manageable as your second eyelids slip over for protection and your nostrils reflexively plug themselves despite the rebreather.

You look down and all you see is a dark sea with lights glimmering from those depths now and again. Light visible from the ocean's floor. You never would've thought. It's like looking at the night sky, save for the fact that the lights are sometimes obscured by large things far below the depths. Thankfully they've not taken notice yet taken notice of you or the boat.
>>
>>30745845
We need like 50 minimum.

This is open ocean shit. Packs of Sharpedo. Giant Corphish picking off rangers. Tentacool/tentacruel everywhere. And every other Water monster looking for a snack.

We need everyone.
>>
Nana leads the three of you to the ship as the other teams swim a perimeter, keeping out any new threats of the mission area.
Before you there are red orbs gleaming in the lightly lit water like glass blood. They almost seem to stare at the four of you.

“Tentacool ahead, counting six. Ceru take them out, they are no-touch.”
“Copy!”

You turn on your Aquatic 3P gear and zip ahead, stopping short of the odd floating bodies that ride the waves. You align your guns...

Do both. Psybeam because it's twice as effective and watergun to move them out of the way for our squadmates.

read the second part of that.

Pushing them out of the way is a minor temporary thing that we cannot do to 6 tentacool at once effectively enough to do anyhting serious.

We would need at least Hydro Pump to have a chance at that.
>>
>>30746238
Not that guy, but how about the structure of the poison molecules acts as a psionic energy focus, causing the poison to refract and reflect and generally bounce the energy all through the body many times more than normal. Like how a microwave vibrates water molecules, but with more POKESCIENCE.
>>
>>30746286
Prof described that, at our level, our Water Gun would be like a water jet under the surface of the ocean.

Whoops. I mistook what Prof said for rolling for severity. Something bad happens and we roll for severity.

My bad.
>>
You tune into that strange power that you'd only fired in testing before. They reminded you of an Esper's psionics. and if Leader Roxie's Ranger School medias are to be believed, it should be effective against these since they're poison.

You fire the beam and the water distorts with the glow of psionic power pushing through the waves. The things tremble for a moment, unleashing a shrill screech through the water. You increase the pressure instead of shirking, forcing them to slack from the assault.

Whatever it did, they seem to have lost much of their luster now. They float dead with their translucent bodies slowly disappearing

“Psionics?” Chuckie laughs over the com, “Interesting. Remoraids?”

“Evolved a bit, but yeah. How'd you know?” You radio back with a little glee.

“Popular choice from Johto. You Rocket kids get some of the best picks.”

Nana comes in over the comes.“Cut chatter please. Marine, Chuckie can you clear the bodies? We don't need poison waters on the way back. If anything they should keep Sharpedos clear.”

“Roger Nana.” The two speak in unison. Marine swims around, swallows a load of water and forces out a current to carry the wave with Chuckie zipping above the waves and coming down with a slap of his powerful tail completing the jellyfish's expulsion from the mission area.

Nana radios to another team to watch out for the lot.

The three of you push forward with M3P gear, driving through the water at accelerate speed.
“We board the ship from the starboard side. Chuckie, gnaw a hole above the breach of water. It can be fixed later. We need an in.”
“Roger Nana”
>>
The portly ranger breaches the surface and latches onto the boat. As you come up near him along with the others you see him shaving the metal off with an unhinged jaws and overly large incisors. As soon as he's got a good grip in though, a whole panel is peeled out of the way with a surgeon's care.
“These boats have a volt system running through the hull. It's hooked up to a Repel-Tech system that's powered by A few jumbo Voltorbs.” Nana explains to you and Marine, notably without you asking.
It suits you though. You didn't really know about that.

The boats back in Cerulean Quarter's lake and fisheries don't need things like this.

Chuckie removes his rebreather now that you're all about to board, “Looks like the system's been powered down. Don't feel a charge in my whiskers.”

“A wonder that we haven't had to deal with more monsters. It's likely that the rock saved them from the sea in more way than one.”

“We chart this area?” Chuckie asks back to Nana.

“I believe so, but we didn't have this rock registered. Or this may be another area. Navigation is so difficult at sea...”

“Wait, the Repel is down?” Marine takes off her rebreather as she enters the wet underbody of the ship.
“Shouldn't they turn it back on?”

“It mighta gotten damaged in the wreck. Could be a short if they powered on. Repair will have to take care of that. Not our mission.

You enter the ship as well. Overall it's larger than the rescue boat. Bulkier and larger while still appearing capable of speed. You'd estimate that it's at least four stories including the keel. Big, but not too big.
>>
>>30747563
Ygg is kill
>>
You notice something inside of the ship. Aside from the storm raging outside, it's quiet. No engine. There's no people rushing to meet their rescuers. Isn't that a bit weird?

“Where are the people?” You ask, looking up and down the maintenance halls of the hull.

Nana seems to take notice at your word, unfurling her long ears. They flick and twitch some as they listen intently.
“Odd. I hear some movement in here, but it's...” She frowns,”Sluggish. Lazy? Doesn't really define Rangers or sailors.”

“We should be prepared for anything, right?” Chuckie's mirth dissipates as he pulls back his lips to expose his Rodent's fangs and arms a bident, the electricity crackling between the spikes.

We don't know what we're going to be up against, it's non-lethal to civilians, it doesn't cost stamina, it's not really hard to refill them considering the circumstances, it has solid stopping power, especially if we fire using both hands. And if it's an enemy it'll soak them with water which will make freezing them with Icy Wind easier.

You go on edge as you flick your ears about to listen, fur standing up on your tail and freezing over into sharp spines and you keep your palms forward and at the ready. Your guns open up and the organic barrels jut out without the amber spines. No icicles this time.

The three of you move carefully through the maintenance halls, Chuckie watching the back while Nana takes the lead, ears slowly moving and twitching now and then like a radar system.
Marine keeps her knuckles up ready to wield her might strength against the first thing that crops up.

“This is indeed strange... The movements are sluggish and heavy like they're not quite used to walking. We could be dealing with monsters here.”
Nana adjusts her radio,”Relay to Misty, Relay to Misty. Team Braver is in the area of operation. No survivors sighted on the maintenance...” She trails off as she looks on ahead.
You peek around Marine to see what Nana sees. There's blood on the walls, trails of fingerprints red and not quite fresh as stagnant blood greets the air. You can almost taste the copper from where you are with your enhanced senses.
Nana approaches with caution, a whisper,”Signs of struggle. Something strong, dragged someone instead of killing?”
She glances back to you and Marine as she rests by the turn of the corridor.
“It'll be all right you two, We're going to clear them-” She's cut off as a slimy claw reaches around, quiet as death. Your heart sinks and the world moves in slow motion as you realign your guns to the monster's hand.
You see the abyssal claws sink into the flesh of her face as surprise and horror slowly sink in, beads of blood blooming from the kind woman's face as she begins to scream. You can't move fast enough though, you just can't correct this quickly enough.
>>
The claw's grasp affirms itself and pulls, tugging at fatty blue flesh as it smashes her head against a pipe, and smears her gray matter over the wall as it pulls back. Red bits of brain drip onto the grating and a low guttural growl whispers into your ears a melody of primordial fear.

Your gun is in position but the claw is gone.

You were too late.

A second sickening crunch is heard without a struggle. You really don't even want to look, your heart beating a million miles a minute.

You hold still, trembling with anxiety from the sudden loss of your squad leader. She had been so reliable... And then in a moment she'd been taken away and destroyed without warning. You can barely get yourself to look around the corner of the corridor, however you do manage to cup a hand over Marine's mouth and pull her back before she screams.

You hear the monster moving around the bend. Dragging the body away with the low ringing of the metal grating in its wake. Chuckie looks back, unaware of what just happened. You cup a hand over his mouth before he says anything and slowly shake your head with fearful tears welling up in your eyes.

Immediately, he seems to understand and sink back.

You hear the creature's indecipherable growl met by another's. It almost sounds like a language before the wet plop of something heavy lands on a grate.

The other thing moves away the sound of lazy dragging and wet, clumsy, yet muffled steps squishing over the grates of the maintenance halls.

You hear the other's sound get closer, and you signal forward. Chuckie, getting in position with his Bident, and Marine not too far away with her own support. Your steps all quiet as a rattata to avoid being heard. You swear you can hear the beating of your own heart getting louder, and louder. Thumping so loud that you swear the monster can hear.
It's forever and a moment for it to come around the corner...

You see it breach, large predatory eyes locking upon Marine, the first thing it sees. In a moment its claw, large and powerful reaches for her, intent to crush the young ranger out of her shell, or whatever other evil intention the beast must have in mind.
Chuckie immediately stabs forward with his bident, aiming for the creature's thickly muscled shoulder.

You shift your aiming for the thing's face. You'll split it open like a melon for Nana. Your amber spines extend and you unleash water that flash-freezes into a spike of ice directed right for the thing's head.
Mid-reach, it sees the sudden pillar of ice and loosely gasps as its profile is breached by a foot-long ice spike.

Right between the eyes. It falls limp right away, nearly collapsing into the grating. Chuckie's Bident catches it in time, and Marine steps over carefully to pull the body back along with the other Ranger. She's gone from excited and gung-ho to deadly quiet and serious.

You slip on your rebreather and tune into the channels,”Braver here, we have hostiles on board the ship. Nana is confirmed KIA. Repeat, We have Hostiles on board the ship. Nana is confirmed KIA.”

You listen for a moment, the radio returns,”We have Tentacruel outside, Braver. Repeat, Tentacruel outside!” It's Leader Misty. “Confirmed no survivors?”

You look to Chuckie and Marine. They're both as on edge as you and about ready to just quit where they are... You wonder what boss would do. What he would say.

You look down at the abyssal creature, purple blood dripping from the hole in its face as your ice slowly melts. It has the impression of a nose, large fangs like some sort of deep-sea fish and colorful fins adorning its body in place of a head of hair, contrasting its deep blue with a blooming of reds and purples.
Its muscular, far muscular than you'd have liked a monster to be or look. It's about the size of Bruise with similar muscle groupings swelling beneath its slimy flesh.

It smells like fish. You shudder, you love eating fish.

Plus, these creatures seem to rely on sight to hunt. If it relied on vibrations, it and its companion would have sensed Ceru and the rest of the squad around the corner. They wouldn't have split up if they did. Their sight and reaction time is superb, though.

“Negative, survivors seem unlikely but not impossible? Orders are to proceed?”
“Affirmative. We need...” There's a break in communication for a moment,” -To confirm. Recover Nana's personal effect and destroy the hostiles. We're-” There's another break in Leader Misty's Comm.
“-Busy out here. Radio Alpha and Cors.”

You end the communication and radio the other two teams, informing them of the hostiles. They confirm that they've yet to encounter them at their own respective entry points.

Chuckie looks around the corner, his back against the opposite wall, peeking ever so carefully.

You take off your rebreather, returning your voice to this situation yet maintaining critical silence. You take your own look after Chuckie backs off. A trail of blood, Nana's last memento to the three of you as you're given a chance to follow the creature. You swallow hard, holding your tears back.

You take a picture of the monster that kill Nana, you'll figure out a name and archive the thing later. The claws of its long arms are still bloody. You frown at that.

Marine touches your arm and you quietly reassure her as the three of you move forward, fulling the trail of fresh blood out of the maintenance halls taking excessive care to be quiet in your tailing.

You eventually find the thing leading you to the cargo bay, and that's when Marine gets nervous, pulling back a bit and whispering quiet as a mouse,”There's people in there, I can feel it. And those things. There's at least ten of them.”

“You feel them now?” You whisper harshly to Marine, somewhere in your hear you realize that Nana could've been saved with a bit more attention.

“Tight places, I can't work with. This, I can. What's the plan?”

Ten monsters in cargo, human captives. Monsters taking human captives... What is going on here?

“Ceru, some of them are different in there. Not all of them are like the one we saw.”

Chuckie peers in, whiskers twitching,”Sure enough, there's a different one in there. It's pointing the big ones around. Skinny itself. A leader?”
Chuckie leans back with the two of you,”Look, I'm no good at taking charge and our mission hasn't changed. You two are rockets in good standing and you've got a good head Ceru. Tell me what you want me to do and we'll do it.”

I'd say there's a good chance the skinny one isn't Fighting but is instead Psychic, but I'm not too sure about that.

Vox the Inquisitor. Request exterminatus. This planet is damned to the warp, the daemons have overrun and the "civilians" are obviously cultists in collusion with the arch-enemy.

Do not bother with extraction, we go with to stand by the side of the Emperor.

Emperor be praised.
>>
>>30750356
Wait for Alpha and Cors to meet up before we storm a group of ten of them holding hostages.
>>
>>30750356
"Knowing what you can do/ what you're best at would be nice, Chuck...ie."
>>
>>30750356
First we radio in Alpha and Cors, tell them our location and that we've found ten humans being kept as hostages.

I doubt that the Deep Ones would bother having two separate capture zones, so no reason not to team up.
>>
>>30750360
THIS
>>
>>30750356
>>30750366
This. Before anything else, we need information.

Get Marine to try and give us a better description of the room's interior while we ask Chuckie what he's capable of.
>>
>>30750380
Hm. Leaders don't necessarily have to be psychic, but the fact that it's not big and bulky does suggest it must control the others somehow. What better to control a group of Fighting types then with the ability to crush their brain like a grape.

We have dark moves, but...they're all melee.
I don't want to get into melee.
>>
>>30750360
Do not forget about this!
>>
>>30750387
Storming them probably isn't a good idea.
>>
>>30750360
>>30750400
We would need to be able to see them first to guess their position, so we'd have to expose ourselves for a moment, I think.
>>
>>30750356
I say guerrilla tactics, snipe the leader fall back to a defensible position and bottleneck them.

>>30750375
>awwwww fuck how do we deal with hostages

They're not going to kill their fuck slaves

>>30750380
bibarel/rattata graft most likely

range attacks and teeth can gnaw through anything.....

I GOT IT !!

we could also go up a floor, have chuckie gnaw a hole through the ceiling above the hostage room and snipe them from up there
>>
Can't we take a picture and forward it to Misty? There are 10 Dagoons here, 3 rangers can't doo jackshit.
>>
>>30750356
Lure them away with noise. We have to have string or rope or something that we can set up a clangy thing at the end of a hall. Make it so they round a corner and step into a hallway looking for another person, only to step into a killzone where we blast them with dual Icicle guns and the mouth-mounted psybeam.

Once that's done, have Marine help us pinpoint them through the wall to Lock-on and psybeam.

I don't really understand the layout of the ship too well, but Chukie could be useful for getting through the walls to set up ambushes.
>>
>>30750393
This
>>
>>30750417
...Not a bad idea, but it might take too long?
>>
>>30750356
What happened to calling for backup?

We need to stealth and take them out one-by-one. Predator vs. Predator. Ice is out, and Psybeam is no OHK. Lockon is a definite must.

So we either quick attack and hope it's enough or Psybeam and hope the others can finish the job.

We can also try our hand at evil moves, but if they're fighting, it won't end well.

Psybeam is silent, right?
>>
>>30750426
THIS.

>>
>>30750356

>>

>>
>>30750413
Yeah, I meant 'wait before we storm' to be more of a exaggeration + preclusion, but it came off more like a suggestion of successive actions
>>
>>30750393
Reasonable. We'll need to have a proper plan ready in case circumstances force us to act soon (such as the hostages starting to get killed), but there's no reason why we shouldn't try to regroup.
>>
>>30750436
not too mention I forgot psybeam doesn't need line of sight.

marine sonars their location

We can't fight them in there, there's too many of them, and we'd have to worry about the hostages. Not a good situation.

Also, check the corpse we have with us, do they have gills?

The jumbo Voltorbs might be useful, if we can lure them into a trap we can use those to zap the ever loving fuck out of them. We have to use the environment to our advantage.

Are there pipes running

Are there things around us we can improvise to work as weapons, whether they be nasty chemicals, explosives, or just very pointy objects?

Can we tell if these guys are cold blooded or not? Because we might be able to make them sluggish or something by slowly introducing cold air into the ventilation system.

I'd like to lay a trap of some kind as well.

Those things were described as insanely fast when in combat, they are going to either run to the catwalk or run behind cover.
>>
>>30751074
Well, yeah. of course.

Retreating back into the ship is a given I figured.. I dunno how smart the Esper is but he'll probably try and hold hostages.
>>
>>30751110
they have a quick lunge and we're on a catwalk above them, we should be able to take some snapshots (not the photo kind)
>>
“Radio Alpha and Cors. Let them know what we found.” You direct Chuckie as you turn to Marine,”Alright, we need to scout and we need to do it carefully, okay?”

Marine nods to you slowly affirming herself. You've never seen her look quite this meek, yet she seems to notice the look you're giving her and clean up her expression. “Right. We sneak, figure out what we can do...” She nods again, resolving,”Okay, let's do it.”

Chuckie creeps back down the hall as he speaks through his com to the other teams. You and Marine creep forward into the cargo hold, peering down at the situation from the catwalks going prone to reduce your profile.

You see the thin one that Chuckie mentioned, it approaches a pair of the brutish ones, utters some of their indecipherable gutter, and then directs them to open the Cargo Hold's bay door, the one that would be used door unloading.

As you stare at the thing you get a good look at it. Unlike the brutes, this one is very thin and orderly with some shapely curves and a far more humanoid face, It actually would look like a ranger if it wore one of your jackets, albeit an odd one. It bears a bio-luminescent crown of fins that glow a luxurious yellow. The brute that dragged away Nana presents the dead ranger to the lead-monster, holding her up by her head, only to place another arm under it to cradle her like a proper offering.

The creature runs a clawed hand over the dead Ranger's face. You can't see what it did. In the next moment, it slaps the brute twice, coming around with a backhand for the second time before shrieking at it out of the blue.
The thing recoils instantly and shirks away, setting the corpse down and sulking away with an almost sad backwards glance.

The leader places its claws upon its head and slowly shakes it back and forth in a very human gesture.
>>
You can see that there are other humans in there, lying on the ground and then stacks of bodies maimed and mutilated. Of note, there are rangers in that pile.

The ship creaks with the storm raging on outside, something shifts and your footing almost gets thrown off, a close call.

The leader creature moves to the sleeping people and seems to touch them gingerly, tracing around their foreheads and cheeks with something almost akin to affection. Yet that picture is ruined when it places a claw under a particularly young civilian's throat and lifts them up via psionic energies.

The creature looks right up at the catwalk that you're hiding at and you duck your head down and out of the way.

(Hear...You... Show... Or... It- She... Dies.) An unnaturally high pitched guttural voice enunciates and feels out every word in your mind as if to work out the distinction of the meanings to form something that makes sense to you.
An Esper monster. You take a deep breath. Another esper monster, may the distortion take them.

Are you retarded?

What happened last time we tried to talk to an Esper?

We got FUCKED.

The quicker we get this thing dead, the better.

And sitting there TALKING to it is not going to stall it. It's giving it a massive opening to fuck us over psychically.

There are occasions where you can stall for time and backup. This is NOT one of them.

There are occasions where you launch and immediate and unrelenting attack to keep an opponent off balance and on the defensive. This IS one of those times.
>>
>>30751409
If that was the plan, then 1 would say "Talk to him to stall for time" and not "Talk sincerely."

You all just voted to try to diplomance him. People were talking about how if what he has to say is good, we can just leave. Others were saying that "we don't want to disappoint mom again"

This is why we asked for what the area looked like. The assumption going on before was that these things were hanging from the ceiling; that's why there was talk about having Chuckie cut some sections down in case any of these monsters got up. Did Prof not see that at all?
>>
Hmm. You all strike a good point in the structure of Ship catwalks that my tired head hadn't fully grasped.
Of course it'd have less stability on a ship if it wasn't secured from above.

Alright. I need to retro-act that piece.

I was assuming they were hanging from the ceiling even before we entered. This is why I asked Prof to give us an idea of what the insides look like.

Those are for stability reasons, taking them down wouldn't make the whole damn thing crushing down like it was made from paper.

You slowly stand up. Exposing yourself to the esper monster with your hands raised, yet palms pointed out and ready to fire at a moment's notice. You were prompt enough to do this that Marine hasn't moved. The creatures' eyes below stare up at you. The leader seems so bright and aware while the brutish ones just stare at you like most other monsters, likely seeing you as something to kill and maybe eat.

The thing sets the young woman down a freakish smile drawing across its fascimile of lips.

“What are you doing with them?” You ask, though the thing doesn't seem to understand you as she looks away, speaking in that strange tongue to one of its minions.

(Monster... Curious... Word...)

“What? I didn't say that.” you frown at the thing as your targeting kicks into gear, slowly locking onto the target with increasing intensity.
(Did... Not... Need...) The creature smiles again, looks down to its webs hands, raises them and then slowly curls and uncurls them(Good...Bye...)

In your focus on the leader monster, you failed to the further creaking of the ship. As one of the brutes approaches, you're forced to adjust your position upon the hanging catwalks again as the ship tips further to the side.

Chuckie yells in from the hall,”We need to get out of here! The Cruel's taking the ship down!” He does a double take of the this rather narrow and dimly lit world spinning,”Hold onto something!”

The ship tips back to the port side that it'd already been leaning toward. The fastened cargo effectively stays in place but the slumbering hostages and the stack of bodies quickly slide across the floor until they hit the side of the ship as it continues tipping.
The monsters grip, digging in, with one of the brutes holding the thin one gingerly in one of its long, gangly arms.

Like the mega froslass concept art?
>>
You hear it shriek into something you can only picture to be a laugh as the ship turns over fully and falls into the water, the sea flooding through the opened doors, rapidly filling up the ship.

You all throw on your rebreathers in a panic as the ship submerges, with all parties present finding themselves back in their preferred environments.

A large stinger-covered tentacle probes inside, forcing the ship open even more as the monsters slip out among the giant one's ministrations.

“Cerulean, we need to leave! Mission's canceled! Let's go! Let's Go!” Chuckie bleats over your Com as the three of you dive into the water, a backward glance to the lost as you make for the exit.
Another tentacles probes in, ripe with poison-firing stingers, groping about for whatever morsels lie within. You nearly can't believe how large this thing is. You'd heard about it, but this is just insane.

“Shit, new plan. Find the old exit. This thing's going down, we can't go with it.”

“What's the rush Chuckie? We breath water right?”

“Problem is pressure. We get too deep and we might as well be crushed by the ship. This thing is getting pulled down!”

The interior of the ship creaks from the water taken on along with what's outside. It's a frightening sound made by a ship that was never supposed to sink.

You know, Prof, telling that to them doesn't really work. You're just lighting up the fire.

Never mind the fact that it went and mind controlled a monster (We brought along a squadron of Espers for this mission, didn't we? Are they not yet here? It's nice that you have a grand vision for how things should go, Prof. Really nice. There was an esper team aboard our rescue boat, and I think I remember that the storm was unnaturally long-lasted and/or spontaneous, which made everything think it was Kyogre or something.
>>
>>30752447
Not necessarily. They might be close, and maybe it does have minor mind reading ability, but to say that if it's mind reading is weak, meaning it MUST be a weak mind controller, seems silly to me. You're arguing mechanics when we don't have the rule book.
>>
>>30752453
And it doesn't matter if they get hard countered by plenty of stuff if they can just mind control people. Only Evil types can't be mind controlled. Only Evil types.

Which means everyone else can be mind controlled. Typing means shit in regards to espers.
>>
>>30752453
They also get countered by people not just standing there to let them do whatever they want to do.

Ceru /could/ stop espers if she just attacked them. But she won't because that's ooc or something.
>>
>>30752471
Oh shut up already.
>>
>>30752465
I'm not even the same guy you were talking to. I was just stepping in to say how those two abilities may be related.

>>
>>30752467
I think you're vastly over estimating their abilities. If they are that strong, then why didn't the kid Esper we captured take control of any Elite Four member?

Literally, any one would've destroyed everything.

But he didn't. You know why? Because he couldn't.
>>
>>30752471
Guys, don't talk to this guy. He doesn't think at all. He's already been offered sensible explanations that he just ignores. He doesn't even reply to them. He just waits and posts the same complaint again and again.
>>
>>30752479
Oh I can get how you might think they would be related. All I am saying is-we don't know, so arguing about it is pointless. We don't have the rule book so we don't get to say "He's weak in x so he must be weak overall"

Just trying to clear up stuff.
>>
>>30752483
Why couldn't he? It's not as if Prof ever gave any indication that he couldn't. The gym leaders are apparently just as susceptible to mind control as he is.
>>
>>30752487
>>30752478
What? I'm agreeing with you guys. I'm going to be voting for the talking option every time because it's pretty much established characterization at this point that Ceru is incapable of not just standing there and talking to the esper monsters to let them do whatever they want.

>>
>>30752497
Because it makes logical sense. if Espers were as overpowered as you claim, then the kid would've taken over Surge, or at the least Koga.

But since he didn't I am forced to think there must be a reason why. The logical one is he couldn't.
>>
>>30752483
I think this shows how much Prof has done to make espers seem reasonable in the story.

Which is to say, not at all. Like what this anon said
>>30752497
not even Surge was safe from possibly being mind controlled.

He's abusing psychics. He's done it in the last mission. He did it IN THE INTERMISSION. And he's doing it now. It's a crutch that he relies on for all these "twists" and it's tiring for people here to put up with it all the time.
>>
>>30752502
to be fair if Mewtwo shows up and wants to kill everyone then we are all dead
>>
>>30752513
Surge wasn't even in the power plant, though. He arrived later on, when Ceru called Giovanni and Giovanni called Surge.
>>
>>30752528
Giovanni also told us to mind scan Surge too.
>>
>>30752528
Then what about literally any of the other leaders (except Sabrina)

He could've hid ANYWHERE among all those quarters and taken a leader over, if it was so easy to do so.

But it's clearly not. Otherwise, all of human civilization would be long dead due to Espers.
>>
>>30752406
>>30752518
Yeah.......I like your story and all, but you're using psychics too much. It's as bad as all those complaints about how magic is overpowered in certain editions of D&D, you know. You need to find a balance, Prof, because as it is right now, you're using esper abilities to justify everything.
>>
>>30752540
Because he's an idiot? Because it's tiring to keep using esper abilities? It'd be more cost effective to break down the domes shielding like he did?
>>
>>30752540
And this only reinforces my point
>>30752537
Giovanni didn't even think Surge was safe from it.
>>
>>30752551
You literally just made an argument against your side just now. Such a thing, even if it was possible, would be intensely mentally draining and very limited in what it could do.

>>30752560
All that could've been is Giovanni being paranoid. He's the boss, it's his job to be cautious.

Don't tell me you're one of those people that thinks Professor=Giovanni.
>>
Everyone calm down. I believe that Prof already has a Mental Strength stat kinda like tenacity but for esper stuff but I'm only speculating.

Can we all stop this until Ygg posts? Maybe then he can explain this.
>>
As someone who just recently woke up, I came here to laugh at you all.
>>
>>30752571
It's not an ongoing process, apparently. As we saw with all the other examples in which people have been mindcontrolled, the esper simply implants an idea or command into the target's mind.

Prof has mentioned that.

And apparently he forgot it since the monster could go ahead and just read or minds anyway.
>>
>>30752586
It'd still be intensely mentally draining.

And telling them to do something against their normal desires would obviously be WAY harder.
Not to mention every turn after, they'd likely get a check to get rid of it, unless it was placed by a master Esper.

Anyway, my point is they have limits, and are not the limitless monsters you seem to paint them as.
>>
>>30752591
7th from the bottom, actually.

Are you hiding some threads?
>>
The three of you push through the flowing brine. Water coming in from the bottom of the ship now in its overturned state. You need to claw and force your way through against the pressire as the torrential flood makes even your amber claws feel as though they could be torn out from the force.

Marine slugs on ahead with her naturally immense strength, climbing through,”Cerulean, the force is too strong... Even if we force our way to the hole, we won't be able to make it outside with this current!”

“Damnit! I should've known!” Chuckie yells throw the com before suddenly cutting out.

“Chuckie!? Chuckie?! Where are you?! Do you copy? Chuckie!” You call for the older Ranger as rushing water floods your vision, even your second eyelids unable to stand up against this kind of battery.

The flooding around your waist begins to die down some as Chuckie comes back up for air, refitting his rebreather.

“Cut a hole in the floor, We need to go down or the water will keep us from getting out.”

You look up, frowning,”That'll take too long won't it?!”

“It's the only way for us to get out safely. We need to hurry!”

Rethinking your exit strategy, you all ride the water down through holes Chuckie chews, you shoot holes through, or Marine smashes with her shell-knuckles. It takes a bit to break through 4 stories of ship, but you all manage to do it eventually, finally making it into the deep blue outside.

You look up and see how far away the surface has already become with the giant Tentacruel wrapped around the ship, the thing destroying and breaking it however-which way it can.

As you swim with marine you suddenly feel a hard tug at your body as you start to get pulled away by some invisible force, and then Marine, with only Chuckie able to hear your screams via the short-com underwater.

The two of you are pulled away through the depths via the ocean current that Misty had warned of, dragged through the dark of the sea...

That's what we get for correcting him.

I wanted to attack the psychic and her goons while we were falling, or at least right after we hit the ground.

Hell, what's even the point of taking hostages if you're gonna have the Tentacruel drown them all?

As if he'll listen to that. He was told to 'take it easy' on the espers when the last mission ended. And we still had to deal with them anyway in the time between.

Prof barely listens to complaints about the setting. Even with the dice, he argued against it a lot before finally changing it just now.

Bruise isn't a good long term solution.

Nah. I bet Prof would have just had us 'wound him' critically and he'd be "forced to summon the NOT-KRAKEN" to make a hasty retreat.

Prof even just stated that this was planned. He's railroading us so hard.

I'm not even arguing against the decision to shoot the esper immediately. I voted for it too. But seeing all this, it's obviously that Prof had always meant for this to happen
>>

Either this or mission complete was my perceived end here. Firing right away and killing the esper before running back into the maintenance hall corridors for some funnel-action would've dealt with the brutes handily.

In this case, the kraken was called and they decided to try to go to the original entrance- which was fklooding and had to waste time cutting down to the bottom. Que forewarned water current.

>>30752808
The only thing I am weirded out by is the lack of saving throws we got.

Other then that, not much really bothered me. I didn't see some of the foreshadowing, but it fits pretty well together. Tentacruel being a slave to this guy was surprising, though. That's what fucked us.

Also the escape was sorta vague. I thought the original exit was at the opposite end of the ship, and would've been a good spot to escape. But my mental imagery of the ship was off I believe.

How obvious this was, huh? That the mindless brutes who are, apparently, similar in mentality to normal monsters would not just kill the hostages after having their handler, who was apparently commanding them and presumably holding them back from just slaughtering everyone, killed. How obvious.

You clearly did not think that the players would believe the brutes would go berserk and kill the hostages.

>>

Pretty much this. We weren't really negotiating in good faith, when we saw it signal people, then we should have shot.

When we dropped the hostage, we should have shot.

The only reason we didn't use Nasty Plot beforehand was because we would tip the Esper off and it would kill the hostage.

This is bad and you should feel bad Prof.
>>
>>30752808
Gawd, your explanations make it all even more bullshit.

First one is unjustified because it goes against expectations. Why would anyone think the brutes wouldn't kill the hostages after we kill the esper? Especially after you hammered in how simple minded they were?

Second one means you've basically been ignoring all the other times people have complained about this problem.

Third one means we either get a shit ending or an even shittier one instead.
