The year is 1938. The Great War has long past and now is the time for innovation, exploration and adventure.

Throughout the world, airships are now common sights, airplanes have become the flying car, and high speed trains rule the transportation industry. Men and women of derring-do travel the world in search of ancient artifacts and long-thought extinct animals. Technology becomes almost indistinguishable from the magic that exists in the world.

But not all is right. In the ruins of post-war Germany, a new power rises led under the banner of Adolf Hitler, threatening to destroy the balance of the world. To the far east, Imperial Japan expands and slaughters its way through China. Air pirates dominate the skies and prey upon the lifeblood which now flows through the air. The occult and the mysterious strike terror and fear into the hearts of many.

That’s where you come in.

The Magical Girls come from a mysterious background, nobody knows where they come from or who they are. All that’s known is that they are powerful beings brimming with magic.

You are Magical Girl Liberty, fifteen year old Christine “Chris” Hunter.

The World of Tomorrow needs a new kind of hero.

“… and now ladies and gentlemen, this is Artie Shaw’s Begin the Beguine originally written by Mister Cole Porter, featuring the stunning Melora Hardin. We do hope you have a very good night. Tonight’s broadcast is brought to you safe and sound by Paladin Blake’s own Blake Aviation Security. Keep our skies safe, boys.”

This is your last night in the nation’s Capitol. You spent some time getting debriefed by the SSO top brass over what happened on the Kleine Fraulein a few days ago. That meant in theory, actually being able to see Operator #5 face to face.

Of course, that didn’t happen.

What instead happened was Mecha Magical Girl Fortress explaining how long she was captured for and being swiftly returned to reconnaissance duties, and Mr. Joanes getting spirited away by SSO officers over the whole Atlantis thing. Archeologists, you can’t fault them after all.

“Come on, Chris, put up your dukes,” says Sumire Kawanishi, AKA Magical Girl Lightning. You, Sumire, and Rana Scott (AKA Magical Girl Bomber) were spending some time in the emptied out gym just near the Capitol building. Kirby, your contractor, was around too, resting in Rana’s lap as she read some book in one corner of the gym. Girl didn’t seem to like talking much.

That left you and Sumire in T-Shirts and knickerbockers, ready to box with each other. You both stand in the ring, giving some quick stretches, your hair tied into messy ponytails. You’ve actually never sparred with Sumire before, at least physically.

You roll your eyes and put up your dukes, your fists in some tight boxing gloves. Lightning grins, putting up hers. She says, “Right, rules. No kicks, no transforming, first one to fall loses.”

You nod. “Fine by me. You sure want to do this?”

“The chance to beat the everloving crap out of you? How can I refuse?” says Sumire.

“Well, I’m sure any other Jap in your place would take the opportunity to beat up a little girl,” you say quickly.

“Ha!” Sumire steps forward and throws her first punch, which you block immediately and effortlessly. There’s a slight pause, then Sumire says, “Ah, I was just testing you!” She tries to give you an uppercut, keyword on “tries” given that you slap the fist away. Sumire blinks, her grin gone and now replaced with an expression of frustration. “Come on, Chris.”

You say, “I fight Nazis, bandits, and occasionally a superpowered crook or a dinosaur. What makes you think I’ll just let you lay hands on me?”

Sumire smirks, stepping back and raising her fists. “Fine. Let’s do this then!”

Sumire yells as she starts bring out a huge barrage of jabs at your face. You keep your wrists up, absorbing each blow and backing up steadily, strafing as well to force her to reorient with each and every punch.

“How about this!” yells Sumire. “You think you’re Pete Herman?” No, but she’s definitely giving too much power to these punches which do nothing but slam against your gloves. “You’re more like Jack Dempsey! Or Jack Johnson!”

Rana looks up from her book and asks, “How do you know all these boxers? Aren’t you Japanese?”

“I have a lot of hobbies, fighting for money and boxing!” says Sumire quickly as she tries to go for your stomach. You silently jump back and keep shifting and moving around, like a butterfly of sorts. “Come on, Chris! You got to do more than just defend, that’s boring!” She yells as she winds up her fist and goes for an incredible cross to your face.

You step right of the way, which leads into Sumire losing her balance and tripping forwards.

You let her recover. She pants, sweat already dripping down her face and arms and her face flushed.

Rana says, “Come on, show her the American spirit, Christine!”

Sumire says, “Rookie, shut up.” She raises her fists again.

Your turn.

You give her a jab, allowing her to absorb, then uppercut right into her gut. She coughs, stepping back.

“A-Alright,” says Sumire. “You’re getting serious now.”

You say, “And you weren’t?”

Sumire glares at you, then tries to give another mean cross. You lean back then counterpunch her square in the jaw. She stumbles backwards, dazed. You give a follow up of two fast jabs to the face, then a right hook, sending her down to the ground.

Rana claps politely, smiling. “You win!”

You shrug. “I suppose I do-“

“Hold on!” says Sumire. She kneels, slamming her fist onto the ring floor. “I’m not finished yet!” She quickly wipes some sweat off her brow with her free hand then says, “Come on!”

Sumire hits the ring floor again, struggling to take hold of the ropes to get herself back up. You just finished beating her again.

You say, “You’re very clearly finished, Lightning.”

She spits onto the floor and tries to stand up again. You offer your hand, to which she slaps it away.

Rana says, “If it’s any consolation, Sumire. I think you fought well.”

“Ah, whatever,” says Sumire as she throws off her gloves. She slips through the ropes and heads towards the punching bag.

Rana looks at you concernedly. “What’s her problem?”

You shrug. “Sumire isn’t someone who takes losing well,” you say. Dull thuds start resonating through the gym as Sumire starts working and practicing her punches on the punching bags. “I’d imagine what happened with the Storm Ace might’ve made it even worse.”

Rana nods, petting Kirby lightly. Kirby hasn’t said anything in a while, usual stuff. He can go days without saying anything or even making himself known. Of course, when Kirby does have something to say, it’s usually very important.

“Miss Hunter!” You look towards the entrance to see Mr. Joanes arrive, in a nice but worried-looking suit, a crumpled fedora, and a satchel about his chest. “Good to see you.”

“What are you doing here, Mr. Joanes?”

Mr. Joanes says, “Ah, well I was informed you were in town, and I was wondering if you three would accompany me on a bit of a… archeological expedition of sorts.”

You tilt your head curiously. “What kind of archeological expedition?”

Mr. Joanes walks up to the ring and leans on it, crossing his arms. “Well, for one thing, it’ll be a journey to find the Lost City of Atlantis. The archelogical find of the century, if not the millennium!” He reaches into his suit and pulls out a rough leather notebook, the same one from Gibraltar when you first met him. He places it on the floor of the ring and taps it. “In this notebook, I’ve recorded all my notes about the city of Atlantis, their language, their culture, almost everything! Except how to find it.”

Rana nods. “So… we have to find it.”

“Yes,” says Mr. Joanes. “Now, in 1914, there was an expedition to Atlantis, funded by the CEO of Whitmore Industries, Preston B. Whitmore. An expedition which failed to return. With them they took the only known map, of sorts, the Scrolls of Aziz or the Shepherd’s Journal in contemporary writing and basically-“

“Cut to the chase,” you interrupt. “Where are we going?”

“Why, to Mister Whitmore’s mansion, it’s just a few miles from here or so,” says Mr. Joanes as he places the notebook back in his suit.

Rana frowns. “But Mister Whitmore’s been dead for over two years. His mansion’s completely abandoned.”

“Which is why it’s an archeological expedition,” says Mr. Joanes. “Of sorts. So are you with me, Miss Hunter?”

You smile. “If you promise to take me with you to Atlantis?”

Mr. Joanes chuckles a bit. “Oh, jolly thing. I wouldn’t dream of just leaving the girl who saved my life behind. You helped make it possible after all!” He rubs his hands together, pointing to the entrance. “Well, to my car then, shall we?”

You nod. “We’ll get changed and meet you out there.”

With that in mind, you, Sumire, and Rana all change back into your usual outfits. You take shotgun next to Mr. Joanes in his neat little car. “We’ll be meeting some associates of mine there,” says Mr. Joanes as he drives the car onto the street.

You ask, “Who are they? Some people from the college?”

“Oh…” Mr. Joanes places his tongue firmly in cheek. “Just some boys… with guns. Who may occasionally work with the local organized crime ring?”

Sumire looks at Mr. Joanes weirdly. “You hired mobsters? How did you even hire mobsters?”

“Well,” says Mr. Joanes. “I heard rumors that Preston B. Whitmore had his house boobytrapped upon his death. I don’t want to take any chances. I took chances back at Gibraltar look what happened.”

You nod. “Alright then. If they’re cool, we’re cool. Don’t worry.”

“Sumire, you doing alright?”

Sumire leans on her side of the car, a cigarette lazily smoking out of the corner of her lips. “Yeah, why do you ask?”

“Just making sure,” you say. “Sorry if I was a bit uh… forward with you back in the ring.”

“Well I could’ve had you had Hiram Bingham here not shown up,” says Sumire. “Next time I’ll get you.”

You grunt, smiling. “Fine, Sumire.”

“We’re here,” says Mr. Joanes.

The Whitmore estate has been abandoned in the two years since Preston B. Whitmore’s death. That meant the entire mansion and surrounding estate has been left to rot and whither. The old stonewalls that surround the house are now covered in moss, and the cobblestone driveway leading up to the mansion is broken and withered. Mr. Joanes stops the car just outside the gates, where a group of five men in trenchcoats and hats holding M1921 Thompsons stand.

“You Mr. Joanes?” asks one of them. Mr. Joanes nods. “And I assume these girls are friends of yours,” he says. “Right, let’s get this graverobbing shit over with.”

You shove through the gates and walk up to the mansion. The night’s already descended, making this old empty house just the slightest more imposing. You all walk up to the front door, and Mr. Joanes tries the door, only to find it locked. One of the mobsters says, “I don’t suppose no one’s got a key.”

You take a walk around the huge mansion, trying to see if there’s any other way but the front entrance.

“There!” Rana points to an open window on the second floor. “Maybe we can climb up?”

Mr. Joanes nods, he places his hands together and leans forward for you. You step onto his hands, then grab onto the windowsill. You scramble inside the building and look around. A huge bed, rustled and dirty. A broken mirror, clothes strewn about. There’s also a rather huge portrait of Preston B. Whitmore overlooking the bed. This must be his master bedroom.

“See anything, Miss Hunter?” asks Mr. Joanes.

You say, “Yeah, I think I’m in his bedroom!” Sumire climbs up in after you, dusting herself off, then Rana, then Mr. Joanes. Finally all the mobsters manage to make it inside. Everyone begins giving the place a once-over, searching drawers, the closet, under the bed, etcetera. Nothing of value is found however.

“Well,” says Mr. Joanes. “Just what I like, minimal disturbance of the site.”

“Is this really a site?” asks Sumire.

“Well…” He opens the door out into the hallway. “Ah, I may have an idea of where to go,” he says as he opens up his notebook. “Um, perhaps one of you three should watch the entrance while we look?”

“Rana, think you can hold down the fort?” you ask.

Rana nods. “Of course.”

“Alright, let’s get this show on the road then, shall we?” says Sumire. You, Mr. Joanes, Sumire, and the five mobsters leave Rana to guard the window. You head down the hallway and right into a grand lobby of an entrance. You recall the grand staircase of the Titanic, beucase that’s pretty much how it looks. The skylight brings down nothing but moonlight into this room. You all step down the cold rustic stairs and down into another hallway, Mr. Joanes leading you all via his notebook.

“Now… ballroom is over there… then…” Mr. Joanes blinks, stopping. You all step into the old hall, what looks to be unlit fireplace with a huge portrait of Preston B. Whitmore again, along with another old man, an archeologist looking type. He conties down the hall and towards what looks to be a cagey elevator not unlike the ones used for freight, only smaller and gilded.

“You think it’s safe?” says Sumire. Mr. Joanes steps on board, the carriage rumbling a little, but settling in good time. “Well, you could’ve thrown a rock or something, but I suppose that works too.”

All of you head onto the elevator, then descend down into the darkness.

Finally, the elevator rests, and you all step out into another hallway. “I’m getting sick of these hallways,” says Sumire.

“All in good time, Miss Kawanishi,” says Mr. Joanes as he leads you all to the door at the end of it. “All in good time.” He opens it slowly to reveal a huge grand room, on one side, glass, what must have used to be an aquarium. At the end of it across from you, a fireplace with a small study at the corner. And a huge blocky table next to the aquarium as well.

> Take a look around

Mr. Joanes jogs up to the study and starts filing through drawers and old papers. Meanwhile, you and the mobsters start looking around, eager to see if you can find anything of value. Sumire especially, who goes rifling through some shelves for any loot.

You walk up to the table. It’s a huge, kind of low. It’s more like a giant block than a table actually. There’s a button on the corner, which you curiously press.

Up out of the table rises some scale models of what look to be some kind of spacecraft.

Mr. Joanes look back, “Oh, those? Those must be scale models of the vehicles they used to facilitate the expedition. The Ulysses in particular, largest submarine for its time, all of them were unfortunately lost.”

Oh. They’re submarines. Okay.

Sumire huffs, crossing her arms. “This sucks. There’s nothing to loot!”

You say, “You’re seriously going to rob someone’s house, Sumire.”

“Well, he’s dead and he’s not buried. What difference does it make?” she asks. You roll your eyes and walk over to Mr. Joanes. He’s turned on his flashlight and is pouring over notes in his notebook and through several papers, most of which have had lots of lines blacked out on them.

Mr. Joanes sighs, frustrated. “These papers have key information, much of which have been censored unfortunately. Which leads greater credence to the theory that… that the Whitmore expedition may have found Atlantis. But…” Mr. Joanes slams his hands on the table, causing you to flinch. “… I can’t find a hint of a location or…”

You look over at a picture. A book with a swirl on the cover. “What’s that?” You ask.

“The Scrolls of Aziz, the Shepherd’s Journal,” says Mr. Joanes. “The only copy went down with the expedition…” he blinks. He quickly takes up a paper.

“Janey Mack!” yells Mr. Joanes.

“What?” you say. “What is it?” All the mobsters and Sumire stop their plunder searching and turn to see him.

“… June of 1935… Made my last trip to Arabia to bask in the sun once more before I shield myself from the public eye. However, I was contacted by my old friend Thaddeus, long thought dead to me. We did not have time to talk however before he passed on, but he gave me an essential clue to Atlantis’ safety.” Mr. Joanes lowers the paper, his face in shock. “The clue to the second Journal.”

You blink. “A second Journal?”

Mr. Joanes grins. “A second Journal! This is it!” You can’t help yourself from smiling too. “This is our key to Atlantis! To finding the lost city of Atlantis!” he chuckles. “This is exactly what we need!”

“You should be the ones thinking about escaping.”

With that, both you and Lightning transform.

> MAGICAL GIRL LIGHTNING! <

> MAGICAL GIRL LIBERTY! <

You split the four between you. Knives and Rapier have you while Sabre and Court Sword go after Lightning.

Knives jumps at you, knives ready to stab at you. You toss your shield, and knock her out of the air and right through the glass wall of the dried up aquarium. Rapier grits her teeth and works up a steady defense as you throw your shield punches at her. She dodges, weaves, but her defense falls and you smash your shield into her gut. You’re about to deliver the final blow before Knives recovers, throwing a knife at you.

You knock it out of the way before it lands. Knives grins, a bit of blood running down her face. “Now we’re talking!” she says as hops out of the aquarium.

Lightning meanwhile fights Sabre and Court Sword to a stalemate, her defense is constantly put on guard by Sabre and Court Sword’s constant slashing and whipping of their blades.

Knives rushes at you, and you bash her in the face, sending her across the room. The mobsters right now must feel useless.

Rapier grits her teeth, then brings her wrist up to her mouth. “Schnell! Los!”

The ceiling suddenly bursts, a hole now leading to the sky. Suddenly, through the smoke come a group of four gasmasked soldiers abseiling down, their weapons glowing with magical energy. The mobsters raise their guns, but the soldiers disintegrate them immediately. Rana and Mr. Joanes run to cover.

The four soldiers land, brandishing their weapons at you.

To heck with the Four, you’ve got to deal with these four.

One of them points at you, then at Lightning. Two of them split off to engage Lightning. He must be the Squad Leader. You toss your shield at him, only for him to dodge it. He however, misses it coming back at him like a boomerang. He falls forward, stunned. The other soldier fires his rifle at you, blue bolts of energy setting fire to the floor.

Your shield blocks the shots that hit, green embers of magic showering over it and hitting you, feeling hot as an oven. Once you’re point blank, he drops his gun and pulls out a glowing machete. He slashes at you, which you dodge deftly. He goes for an overhead slash, only for you to block it, then punch him in the knee with the rim of your shield. He buckles, yelling in pain. Then you slam him in the face, his mask bursting into pieces.

The other pulls out his machete and picks up his fallen comrade’s as well. He spins them in his hands threateningly, stepping around you.

> Attack (75)

The Trooper yells as he slashes at you, which you quickly dodge. You try to punch him with the rim of your shield like you did the last one, only for him to jump out of the way. He slashes again, this time with both blades, going rapidly after you like some kind of Japanese cook preparing sushi.

You step forward and raise your shield, deflecting both machetes. Then you bash him in the chest with the flat of your shield. He stumbles backwards, grunting in pain.

Time to finish you off.

You run at him then spin your shield at the last second, it whining loudly and now glowing red from the heat. You punch him, flinging him into the aquarium where he lands, smashing glass and rocks.

Yep. He’s dead. You look over to Lightning, who pulls the last Trooper off the blade of her naginata.

“Right,” you say. “We gotta go. Mr. Joanes, Rana!”

Rana and Mr. Joanes come out from under the desk. “Let’s go!” yells Lightning as you all head towards the elevator. Rana meanwhile sucks up her fear and transforms.

> MAGICAL GIRL BOMBER! <

You reach the elevator, only to find that the car has been cut from the cables. Damn them. “I got an idea!” says Rana. “Pull it out!” Lightning and you quickly pull the car right out of the shaft. Rana then steps in and says, “Grab onto me.” Mr. Joanes wraps his arm around Rana’s shoulders. You and Lightning grab onto Mr. Joanes meanwhile.

She points both her Thompsons at the floor, then fires full auto. The recoil rockets you up the shaft very quickly, you’re almost taken by fear of heights right then and there. The sound of firing guns reverberates all the way until you reach the top.

You all land gracefully at the hall, except for Mr. Joanes who bellyflops. Understandable. You blink in fright however. The mansion is now in flames. The Nazis are covering their tracks that’s for sure.

Then the ceiling bursts again, this time a group of huge men in power armor. The same ones from the Kleine Fraulein. This time, they’ve also brought huge Gatling guns.

“Liberty!” yells Rana. She throws her Tommy guns into the air, forming it into an M2 Browning HMG.

Ah. You see where this is going. You throw your shields at a path around them. Rana then fires a three round burst at the shield on the left. The rounds ricochet off the shield, then go through one Jaegar, then bounce off the other shield, and through another Jaeger, and so on until the shields return. It all happens so fast, such that the two unwounded Jaegers don’t understand what happened, standing around confusedly.

You bring your shields back and rush at them with Lightning. Lightning hops ahead, spinning in the air, then slashing the first Jaeger’s legs from underneath him. He falls over forward, and Lightning delivers the coup de grace, slicing his head off. The other raises his gun at her, only for you to throw your shield at his face, then finish it with a high powered shield punch to his jaw, shattering it.

The Jaegers all lie in a pile of corpses. Mr. Joanes walks up to you three, shocked. “I can’t believe what you did!”

Lightning says, “I’d like to point out that the mansion is still on fire.”

“They’ve still got the book,” you say. “We have to go after them!”

With that, the four of you run down the rapidly burning and smoke filling hallway. The grand lobby is even in worse shape. The entrance doors unfortunately have been blocked with rubble, most of which is on fire.

However, you see them. They’re running towards a different part of the mansion. You wave some of the smoke out of the way as Mr. Joanes hacks and wheezes. You yell, “Bomber! Blow that door! Get Mr. Joanes out!”

Bomber nods, then points her .50 Cal at the door, then blasts the rubble to pieces. The door’s now ready. Mr. Joanes runs out, yelling, “I’ll go get help!” he says as he runs to his car.

Lightning asks you, “Is he really going to get any help?”

“Any help is good help,” you say. You look to the both of them then say, “Follow me.”

The three of you run in the direction the Four ran. You keep your shields up as burning wood and rubble starts raining down on all three of you.

Soon, you’re in the luxuriously burning grand ballroom. A hole bursts through the ceiling as a rope is lowered down. Two Storm Elites abseil down and brandish their MGs at you. The four clip themselves onto the rope.

Knives looks at you. “American! Good to see you again! Come back for more?”

“We’re here for the book,” you say.

The other three unclip themselves from the rope, but Knives stops them. “No. I’ll handle this, alone.”

With that, Knives pull out her dual knives. “I believe we haven’t properly dueled before. Now seems like a good time, ja?”

“No.” Lightning jumps at her, naginata over her head. Knives cartwheels backwards , dodging it quickly. The other three unclip themselves from the rope and charge at you and Lightning.

Rana fires her .50 at them, to which they slash and dice the bullets right out of the air. Rapier jumps up and engages her, thrusting and dicing while Rana can do nothing but block with her huge gun. Knives runs at Lightning, one knife in reverse grip and the other in a natural grip.

Sabre and Court Sword land in front of you, brandishing their weapons respectively, their pink and green hair bubbly and their faces innocent as if they’re not fighting you in a burning building.

Whatever. You rush at them, they step back and let you pass, aiming to slash at your back. You turn around in time to let them start slash away, spreading green embers of fiery anti-magic off your shield. You spin your off hand shield and nail Sabre in the stomach, sending her across the room. Court Sword glares at you angrily, then yells as she starts attacking you harder. You step out of the way in time then shield bash her in the knee, sending her to the ground.

You’re about to head over to help Rana when the ground shakes from behind you. Oh boy. Is that who you think it is?

You turn around.

Yeah.

You try to punch him with your shield, actually managing to knock his weapon out of his hands. You try for another punch, but he simply grabs your shield and lifts you up with it. You look into those huge holes that people call gasmasks lenses. You can’t see anything past them but the fire reflecting off of them. He throws you to the ground, shattering the floor beneath you and making a little crater.

You roll out of the way before he can step on your face. You try to shieldpunch him in the knee, but he responds only by kicking you, forcing you backwards. You run back and try to shieldbash him in the chest, only for him to slap you away, marching slowly.

You look at a fallen beam of wood, burning at one end. That might do it. You pick it up and jump at him, smashing it over his head and setting his shoulder on fire.

You stand there, waiting for your success to take.

He punches you, knocking you right into Bomber and sending you both sprawled out over the ground. The Nazi girl four quickly retreat to the rope, covered by the Storm Ace.

You grit your teeth, standing back up. “Lightning!” you yell. She looks back at you, then runs at you.

“Heads up!” she yells.

You bring your shield up for a horizontal blast. Lightning jumps, then kicks at your shield, blasting herself across the room at high speed, naginata at the ready to thrust into the Storm Ace.

The Storm Ace is run through by the naginata, the blade resting in his gut. Blood drips down onto the shaft.

Lightning looks up at him, grinning. Her grin fades however, as the Storm Ace grabs the shaft, and thrusts it further into his body, drawing her closer.

“Lightning!” screams Bomber.

The Storm Ace grabs Lightning by the neck, threatening to crush her windpipe.

Not on your watch.

You run at him, shields at the ready. You throw your shield, spinning it with extra force. The shield impacts his face, shattering one of the lenses and denting the mask. He lets go of Lightning, who sits on the ground and coughs furiously.

Bomber runs up and dematerializes her M2, deciding on the dual M1921 Thompsons. She fires both rapidly, ventilating the Storm Ace and filling those holes full of magical lead. He steps back, dazed and stumbled.

Now’s your chance.

You run at him, bringing both shields to spin until they begin whining and start glowing white from the intense heat and power.

The Storm Ace looks at you, steadying himself ready to block your attack.

Not this time.

You scream as you jump and slam the rims of your shields into his gut. The ground around you bursts and smashes from the sheer force. The Storm Ace goes flying right, impaling him on a section of rebar. He means to try and pull himself off, but the roof above him collapses, burying him underneath several tons of rubble.

You pant, your shields spinning down to a halt, smoking with energy.

“No time to argue, let’s get out of here.”

With that, you, Lightning, and Bomber run out of the ballroom and back towards the front entrance. The mansion at this point is falling to pieces. But you can definitely hear the sound of sirens over the roaring flames. Mr. Joanes must have brought the Fire Department. You burst out of the doors, shocking some firefighters with hoses and fireaxes.

“Liberty!” yells Mr. Joanes. You run up to him, panting a bit. “Goodness, are you alright?”

You nod quickly. “Yeah! We’re good! We caught up to them!”

“Did you get the book?” asks Operator #5. No way. Is he- Oh, that’s just a robot. Nevermind. Of course he wouldn’t show his face.

You shake your head. “No, they have Mr. Joanes’ notebook, along with any notes they have to Atlantis.” You sigh, frowning. Damn it.

“But!” says Mr. Joanes as he pulls out a paper. “They didn’t get this! It’s the assumed location of the book.”

You blink. “D-Do they?”

“Probably, actually,” says Mr. Joanes bluntly. You roll your eyes.

“Look at that!” yells a firefighter.

You all turn your heads to the sky to see the Zeppelin, the Kleine Fraulein, hovering overhead, its engines roaring. Then slowly, it begins dematerializing, vanishing out of thin air even, until all that could be heard is the sound of the burning mansion and the sight of stars and the moon.

The Kleine Fraulein has vanished into thin air.

“Amazing!” yells Bomber. “The Kleine Fraulein must be the stealth Zeppelin Germany was developing!”

Operator #5’s robot beeps, shuddering. “This isn’t good. Air Militia will never catch it this rate.”

Mr. Joanes says, “Well, we can’t let the city of Atlantis fall into their hands!”

Mr. Joanes nods. “From this paper, yes. Shouldn’t be too difficult.”

“Alright,” says Operator #5. “I’d contact Mister Savage on this but unfortunately, this situation leaves us with little time to spare. Liberty, Lightning, Bomber,” the three of you look at the robot curiously. “Can I trust you three with this?”

You nod. “Yes sir. What do you need?”

“I happen to have my best airship ready and docked in D.C.”

With that, Mr. Joanes drives you all like mad to the airport. There’s no time to get packed, or get your personal belongings. Operator #5 has assured you that he will handle all of that soon enough. Mr. Joanes is waived through the security checkpoints.

“Wait, Operator #5, what do you mean your best airship?” you ask.

“It’s specially designed to be fast, maneuverable, and be operated by as little crew as possible. In theory, only one of you could do it. I’m sending you three to use it to chase after the Kleine Fraulein, it will serve as your base.”

Lightning asks, “Why haven’t you used it before?”

“Because it’s a prototype. You don’t use prototypes in battle, that’s stupid. It hasn’t been tested, hell I haven’t even given it a proper name.”

Mr. Joanes stops right outside the huge airship. The engine nacelles are already activated and ready for you.

Bomber squeals happily, taking control of the wheel.

“Okay then,” says Lightning.

“Right, full power, Bomber.” You all stand to the side, hanging onto something. “We’re going to find the Shepherd’s Journal. And we’re going to save Atlantis! Or we’ll die trying!”

The Sparrow rises out of the airport, engines at full power. She turns eastward over to the ocean and begins her journey.
