You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

After learning that the others are currently in the throne room, you and Karel left Alicia with Gerhard and made your way down there.

It's a real relief that everyone seems to be doing alright, not to mention that you seem to have a bit of downtime.

>Congratulations, you are once again an unruly WOLF!
>Wolves are cool and powerful... and also rather dangerous.
>The Princess considers you to be her friend!
>But while wolves are really cool, they still don't count as people.

Just before the assassins attacked, you were on your way to tell Luciana that Celestino approved of your relationship... but then everything went to hell and it completely slipped your mind. But things seem to have calmed down some, so now's as good a time as any!

"Oh yeah- Luciana?" you say.
"Hm?" Luciana replies absentmindedly, more focused on pulling on Chiara's cheeks than with talking to you.

What is this, some weird retaliation for when she slapped you?

"What is it?" Luciana asks.
"Uhh... your father talked to me before he made that announcement and everything went nuts," you say. "And um... he approved of you and me being together."
"Ehehe... that completely slipped my mind after those bas- AHEM," she clears her throat. "...after those -men- attacked," she says happily. "Father actually told me all about that just before he went up on the stage."

It figures that he'd tell her himself... now you feel dumb for getting all embarrassed about nothing.

"Papa said that you can get married to Reinhold now?" Elena asks, turning to Luciana.
"Whoa, congratulations," Andreas says.
"It- it's not like that," you mumble. "He's just okay with us... courting or whatever it's called."
"But now I don't have to worry about Father trying to marry me off to any random jerk just for political gain!" Luciana giggles.
"Yes, that is a relief," Marianne nods.

"Actually..." you begin, "I kind of told him off a little about that, and he said that he didn't even know that you were against it. The engagement, I mean."
"Engagement?" Andreas asks. "But you just said that the two of you were-"
"That's nothing that we have to worry about anymore," Luciana says, shaking her head. "And of course I couldn't tell Father that I was against it, it's not like he'd even care..."
"Well, it definitely seemed like he cared a lot when I told him about how you took the news last night," you say, shrugging.
"...so all I needed to do was just..." drooping down her head, Luciana lets out a long sigh. "Great, now I feel really stupid."

"You shouldn't feel stupid," you say. "But I do think that you might be underestimating how much your father loves you and wants you to be happy..."
"Considering what you just told me, I suppose I really do," Luciana says, sighing. "If he wasn't busy right now, I would go over there and talk to him right now."
"Though I may not have the same problems as you, I do understand how aggravating it can be to have such a busy father," Marianne says. "And I don't have nine other siblings vying for his attention too..."
"Well, it's not quite -that- bad," Luciana replies. "Alberto and Elena are the only ones who actually try and be around him to any real extent. My elder sisters are off be- doing their own things, Giancarlo likes to chase skirts when he's not with his wife or bugging Alberto, and Emilio and Chiara are usually with Mother."

"...that's enough of that," Andreas says, patting her on the head. "It's not nice to gossip, even if everything that you're saying about them is true."

Whoa, Andreas doesn't like them either?

"He's right, you know," Marianne says, nodding. "I'm not very fond of them either after... certain things that they've said about -my- mother, but that's no reason to dwell on it."
"Yes, yes..." Luciana mumbles. "But to answer your question, Reinhold, they don't have a grudge against Father for remarrying. They just hate Mother..."

Since it looks like things are going alright over here, so you figure that you ought to check on your other friends.

"I'll be back in a bit," you say to the Princesses (and Andreas). "Just going to see how Nicolette and the rest of them are doing."
"Go ahead and take your time," Marianne replies. "We'll be fine over here."
"Yes, I know that Nicolette was pretty worried about you," Luciana says."
"Baaa!" Chiara shouts as she squirms around in Marianne's arms in an attempt to hit you again. Luckily, Marianne's actually paying attention to her this time around so your face is safe from babyslaps.
"Ba," you say right back as you poke her on the nose.

As Chiara stares at you in total shock, you expect her to try and jump out of Marianne's arms to hit you again... but she starts giggling and clapping her hands together instead.

That was... not the reaction you were expecting.

"Mother, Elena, Uncle Gregory, Marianne..." she says, counting with her fingers. "Then there's Giancarlo, and you make... six. I guess I was one off."
"...she actually likes Giancarlo?" Marianne asks, raising an eyebrow in surprise.
"He seems to be pretty good with little kids," Luciana replies. "I have no idea why."

As you leave the princesses to grumble about Giancarlo's tendencies, you think you hear Andreas mumbling something about him and babies both being interested in the same bodyparts... whatever that means.

Nodding to Takamaru as you pass, you make your way over to the other side of the wall where Nicolette and the rest of your friends are gathered... and Melanie's the first one to notice you coming.

"Hello, Mr. Reinhold," Melanie says, waving to you as you approach. "I take it that your sister is doing alright?"
"Yeah, she's just a little bit sick," you reply.
"I'm sorry to hear that, but at least she's safe..." she sighs.

Probably also worth mentioning that Karel's mom was fine also, even if they don't really have as much of a personal connection there. I think by that point we had Volker's sword, and we'd probably use that over a knife.

So this scumbag was hunted down by a psychotic nine year old wielding a sword far too fucking big to him. "And what about you guys, are you going alright?" you ask. "You handled yourselves pretty well back there, but I know that first kills can be pretty rough on most people."

Assuming that they're not as messed up as you are, anyways.

"We're fine," Nicolette replies. "Me and Sylvie only got knocked around a bit, but Rana got the worst of it."
"Oh yeah, from when we ran in to help Gerhard," you say, cringing as you remember the state that her arms were in afterwards.
"Reya and Melanie patched me right up though, so I'm all better now!" Rana laughs as she flexes her arms.
"Can't say that I'm all that thrilled to have finally killed a guy," Nicolette sighs, "...a bunch of guys, actually... but that's kind of part of my job so I guess I ought to get used to it sooner rather than later."
"Yeah, I guess you have a point there," you reply.

Also at this rate all of them are going to be afraid of Reinhold "the Psycho" Eschenwald.

Depends on the IHOP, some of the restaurants have cooks that actually know HOW TO COOK. If you find one, treasure it and the staff there like they are your own family. But they do have their fair share of places that can't microwave a damn TV dinner. I live in a fairly upper middle class area and have one 5 miles away that left egg shells in my scrambled eggs, coffee sucked, hash browns were just one unappealing and burnt square chunk.

Only good thing was bacon, but it's pretty damn hard to really screw up bacon.

Decadent just means something is in moral decline. The North and South have very different priorities, and therefore are egregiously decadent by eachothers' standards. When somebody says food is decadent, they are alluding to it being so good that it qualifies as immoral gluttony. When somebody says the North is decadent, they're usually referring to sociopolitical issues like homosexuality in laws and the like.
>>
>>30648186

"The more I hear about your life, man..." Nicolette shakes her head. "I'm just glad that you didn't turn out a total psychopath."

"Leave it to siblings to keep you in line..." Rana laughs. "I've killed more than a few people myself, but Reya doesn't like doing bounty missions so we don't usually see much combat."

Deciding to retreat before you end up hearing something that you shouldn't, you look around this part of the throne room for someone else to bug. Emilio and Karel are a couple of feet away, chatting about something that you can't quite make out. And leaning against the wall by herself is Sylvie...

You're honestly kind of dreading talking to her, but she's still your friend and you'd like to get things back to normal before her anger at you ends up growing into something worse. And so, you suck up your unease and walk on over to her...

"Hey, Sylvie," you say, waving. "How are you holding up?"
"Fine," Sylvie mumbles, looking away from you.

"Got a few scrapes," she replies. "Mostly on my knuckles from all those people I punched to death. Not like you care though..."

true, also i don't want to see her dueling one of our friends.

still remember her last duel went.
>>
Maybe it's just me, but I think we should tread light concerning Sylvie.
She's pretty much established that she is displeased at us and Luci.

Perhaps the best course of action is to give her time and not try to mend things the day after the whole thing went down.

We can always buy her little things she might like when we go out shopping, we have spending cash and not a lot to spend it on. We could write short letters, paragraph length. The little things.
>>
>>30649107
we can buy her cake, those always work in the past.
>>
>>30649107
i dont think buying her gifts would help at this point. actually doing anything special for her would make it worse. if we buy gifts for everyone, than that might be nice.
i think baking a cake for everyone again would be a good group activity once we are back at granache. Sort of a celebration for returning home.
>>
>>30649138
We can make her cake using luciana's blood and flesh, that'll cheer her right up

So... where are we going to make our cake? Shall we commandeer lady Agnes's manion's kitchen? We're probably going to need Melanie's help to do it too.

Who will be invited?

Obviously Luciana, she's our official girlfriend.
Obviously Sylvie, she needs calories to offset frustration.
Obviously Nicolette, since Melanie will be there
Rana and Reya should be invited too, they are bros.
Elena and Karel, because swordie lady, and Andreas and Takamaru because bodyguards.
Marianne, because she would feel left out otherwise.

...damn, we better stock up on flour and yeast and sugar.
>>
>>30648966

"I want to go home where it's safe and I don't have to look at Luciana's stupid face every day," Sylvie says, her eyes welling up with tears. "I want to hang out with Nicolette and eat goof off and eat way too much food like we did at that spaghetti place. I want to teach you new spells and mess with you when you get them wrong... but now all of that's messed up thanks to HER."
"Hey, we can still-"
"She played this like it was a contest, did you know that?" she says, wiping her eyes with her sleeve. "She pulled me aside after declaring to everyone that she likes you and tried to scare me off. That stupid bitch, I should've just challenged her to a duel right then and there... I'd have won, too," she sighs. "But I'm not like you and Nicolette, I don't like fighting. And then I backed off when you said that I was coming on too strong but SHE kept on pushing and now I'm all alone, just like she planned!"

She needs a hug

Also Rein should talk to Luci about that "contest" thing
That's not nice

yes, Rein works on kindergarten logic, murderous ptsd kindergarten logic
>>
>>30649240
sylvie please.
>>
>>30649270

Yeah, she does need a hug, but I'm unconvinced that Reinhold should be the one giving it to her.
>>
>>30649270
she needs a hug but nico should be he pne giving it. rein hugging her at this point... not really a good idea.
>>
>>30649286
>>30649285
What if it's a group hug, and then everyone goes to play on the merry go round and eat cake?
>>
>>30649240
Well, that's some progress.

I think we may need to have a talk with Luci about this at some point soon.
>>
>>30649240
she is right except for the all alone part. i guess all we can say at this is that she is not all alone. she has nico. we will still want to learn magic from her. she has everyone back at home.

The simple and honest things tend to be the best solutions.
>>
>>30649240
Something like-

"Sylvie, listen to me. I've been /alone/, or very close to it, and I'm sorry that you feel that way. But you are not alone- Nicolette will be there for you, always. And even though you're angry with me I will be there too- I swear it. I just want to hang out like we used to, too."

Any ways to improve that?

>[3/3]

"And now you won't even let me be sad in peace..." Sylvie mumbles.
"Karel was mad at me earlier for being too persistent because I said something about the two of us being friends," you say. "I guess I just don't know any other way of doing things."
"Just like how my father acts when my mother's mad at him... it's not fair."

>what do you say?
>>
>>30649323
Removing the 'I've been /alone/' part. We really need to stop bringing up our traumatic past when trying to console people. Trying to guilt them into feeling better is dickish.

>>
>>30649330
"I can't fix what's already done, but I sure as hell won't lose my friend. Sylvie, I won't leave you alone to your sadness, and neither will Nico or Marie, because we all care about you"
>>
>>30649330

>>30649330

Calling it a night here, guys.
Personal drama is always fun to write, as are Rana's interations with Nicolette and Melanie.
The next thread will be Wednesday night, and might actually have some story progression for a change maybe!
I'll also try and not start so late, but who knows what evils that Tyler Perry has in store...
seriously, fuck that guy

As always, thanks for playing!
To bug me on Twitter:

Why do you QM's never learn, don't say anything about starting early or not as late! Ya'll rarely get it right.

Imagine if we said Sylvie how things had gone. How we told Luci not to be so pushy and how she was holding herself back too. Then how we were the one to make the decision to walk her to her room, then went in and we were the one to initiate the kiss that marked the start of our relationship as an official couple.
She'd probably snap right now and kill something.
