"So what does initiating with Raev entail?"

"You enter the church and proclaim it to the cleric there." he says, "And then you are sequestered for a day. No one really brings up what happens, it's considered rude." he says, looking up. "Are you gonna go now, or...?"

Forms erry day.

Really though, I just figured it would be good to get some last moments with Michael before we get all weird.
>>
>>30612315
I submit that whenever we get all weird, all we do is practice the forms over and over again, since that's apparently our fetish.
>>
"Before you go, do you feel like sparring?" you ask. Micheal weighs his options, looking up at the sky.

"Sorry. Next time I possibly can, okay?"

"...Yeah, sure." you watch him go, then go through your forms, the familiar motions. The free rotation of your hand allows you to do some weird things with your spear, but not much more - it's too long for most of your ideas.

After what feels like an hour, you head down to the church, finding it mostly empty and Rikard cleaning. A young woman with straight black hair sits in the pews and watches him.

Rikard smiles, walking up to you and taking your hand, lifting you up.

"Then we shall bring you into the fold." he says gently. "Come with me."

The young woman rises wordlessly, dusting off her posterior and following the two of you. Downstairs, into a large room with cushioned floor, walls, and many, many pillows.

"This is where we hold such things. Due to the process of the rite, it is important to remain as safe as possible." he says, as Erva smiles and flops onto the floor, rolling onto her back with a happy sigh. "Now - Do you swear to follow Raev's word in all things, excepting orientation?" he asks, "Do you swear to do as she asks, move as she moves, and stand beside her in the best and worst of times?"

You let the pauldrons slip from your arms, slipping off your gauntlets with a sigh.

"I miss my friends." you say sofly, leaning on the table, enjoying the softness against your arms. "Sunshine especially." you lay your head on the table. "We used to do everything together. Even beating up boys." you grumble. "I'd roll her around and she would make me little trinkets." you slip off your boots as well, humming to yourself. "And all the other Appals were so nice to me..." you grumble, feeling so much better. "Why'd they all have to die like that. It's not fair at all..." you feel yourself tumble backwards, and Freth giggles as you unfasten your breastplate and set it aside, leaving yourself in your bra. It feels so good...

"You're silly, Annelin~" she says, walking up and hugging you. You gently push her away, but she insists, soft mounds against your arm, and you gently push her away again, sending her laughing and flopping into a pile of pillows.

"How do you feel?" Rikard asks, eyes remaining on your face. Somehow, you feel frustrated about that...

I went home and daddy just told me they got what they deserved! And mom just told me to buck up!" you walk up to the table and slam both fists on it. "They deserve better! All of them! There should be a monument!" Again and again you slam your fists on the soft, cushioned surface, your emotions running wild. "And I'm tired of being called a whore! I'm tired of holding back, damnit! I have my needs, like any other person! And I don't want to wear fluffy dresses or learn to be all talky but for the sake of Raev I want to hold the prince and tell him he can do anything, and then I want to watch him do it, because he's so amazing and bright and beautiful and-"

Rikard grips your hands.
"Breathe."

You comply, taking in a huge amount of air.

You find your mind wandering as you discard your bra and panties, stretching in the nude as you walk over to a pile of pillows. Some are more firm, squareish... yes. You hum as you set them up, taking in some of the smaller throw ones behind you. You build up a small room with six of the pillows, all set against a wall. Finally, a blanket over the whole of it leaves with a small bunker with a way to see out. You grin out from it, and Freth giggles and makes her own rather sloppy one.

For what feels like ages, you toss pillows at one another, enjoying it simply as Rikard gathers the strewn clothing.

"Very well." she says smoothly, with a soft, warm laugh. You pelt Freth's base with pillows and soft, foamy animals and other things, until it finally collapses and Freth bursts out, sending parts flying all over. She stomps over, and collapses before your fort. Raev pulls her in and lays atop her, ebony skin oddly enticing against Freth's ivory paleness. You lay with them, warm and happy, slowly falling asleep.

...

You wake up in the center of the room, still naked. You blink, and something forms up in the back of your head. Your eyes go wide, and your mouth slowly begins to open as Rikard lays a black cloak over you, edged with lace.

"You are a remarkably free soul, Annelin." he remarks. "Sometimes the rite does not last as long as a day, sometimes it lasts longer. It all depends on your own inhibitions and how much you hide from the world. Which for you is very little."

"She's only a little put out, but she understands." Rikard says.

"Thanks for everything." you hug them both, and, fully dressed, return to the castle.

You're barely there in time to catch the prince and Monica parting ways and talking animatedly.

She kisses his cheek just as you approach.

"I'm happy for you." Micheal says. "But it's about time to head to bed. I'll see you in the morning, Annelin." You all filter off to your respective rooms, and you pray at the window until you feel warm hands upon your cheeks.

Morning comes with a bleary feeling, but it's no less warm. You immediately head to the training area after dressing yourself, to find Sarl there drilling Micheal already, rather hard.

You stop yourself from biting your lip as he runs through a particularily challenging series of swings, having to start over over and over.

Sarl grins.
"You are a fast learner, as she said." he says, grinning. "What do you think, Annelin?"

"He managed to get in a lucky counter toss." he says. "The boy is an exceptional learner, but he is physically weak. If he's to best his father, his technique must be flawless. I'm asking to double his workouts."

You relax, watching the prince for the moment. Eventually, when you can't take the waiting, you get up and head to town.

The library is a very quiet place, run mostly by automotons animated by Law. One brushes you, emits a canned apology, then rushes inside. They look like humans made from cubes and gears and steel.

Eventually, you spot Deckard leaning against a column, looking out at the city. He's just as handsome, quiet, and attractive as you remember, and he smiles at you when you approach. That smile... You shake your head to clear your thoughts.

"...Sarl said you had something of mine?" you manage.

"Moved here to follow strong opponents, mostly." he says. "Imagine my surprise when you're announced as the Bloodline Protector."

"Well, it's nothing so fancy..." you manage, humbly.

"...I'm sorry about that comment when we met up, earlier. I was a little bitter."

We went from "thanks but not interested" to "on second thought, why don't you by me luch". Pretty sure there's an opening to reestablish the friendship and through the something more.

Ask him where he found the pendant. Ask how everything was back in the old arena, since presumably he was there more recently than us. Just chat.

We of all people should understand what it's like to feel bitter.

Just because our charge is the only one left? He always liked us, but rebound everything into him is improper heterosexual behavior.

As far as I know the general consensus is still Mike, we're just taking the time to catch up with someone who was an important part of our life for a long time.

If he tries to get grabby with us, we kick his ass.
>>
>>30619869

>improper heterosexual behavior.

What. We are actively courting/going after him. There's no rebound here, it was an active decision made by the participants of this quest.

How have things been with you? How's the Old Arena doing?

How did you manage to come across Sunshine's work anyways? I've looked before."
>>
>>30619907
Hey, I voted to rebound on Michael after we broke thinks off with Teel. Seemed wrong to shack up with Karl since we'd already turned him down repeatedly, and the prince is young enough to want to experiment a bit before he's ready to settle down and play politics, he's the perfect target for a short term fling. And if we end up married to him, hey, free kingdom.
>>
>>30619907
Other way around, which is same as always. The implosion was also an active decision
>>

"It's alright. Just don't do it again." you say. "So... Where'd you find it?"

"Oh. I actually found it on a Dra trading wagon." he says. "On the way here."

Really?

"And how were things in the Arena?"

"Death league is getting more popular. Team of a guy and a magus is making headway." he says. "Frankly, Duel is my preference." you nod as he looks at your hand.

"Oh, this. I, uh..."

"I heard. A demon lord?"

"No, the demonologist says it wasn't quite as strong as it could have been."

"Still... A knighthood. Well-done."

His praise makes you remember long mornings of sweat and effort. Training, too.
"W-well, it was my job..."

"So... You really like him, huh? He's pretty young."

"You're one to talk!" you manage. Sure, late twenties versus late teens, it's a bit of a stretch, "I mean, he is growing up."

"So were you."

You sigh.
"Look, we haven't even kissed yet." you stammer.

"So you're going to wait a year? Two? Three?" he asks, smiling.

"Th-this isn't your business!"

He raises his arms and eyebrows.
"Clearly I'm too emotional about this." he says, not in sarcasm but regret. "I'm sorry." he palms his face, pinching his nose. "I'm heading home. Here's the address. It's up to you where you go." he places the note, then pays for your lunch and leaves.

We probably won't visit him, but we may as well remember it in case we ever need to.

Definitely don't keep the note though, that's a recipe for misunderstandings down the line.

I thought we did kiss. In that secret cove hideaway.

Anyways, tell him it would be nice if we could catch up as friends and he knows where to find us if that's the case. Emphasize the as friends bit. Memorize the address too I guess, just in case shit goes down in the castle and we need an extra blade around.

I'm the fucking bitter-ass motherfucker in this thread and even I think this is a goddamn stupid fucking idea.

Even if it was a "give away that which matters most" sort of schtick, Raev doesn't work on those lines and does not benefit from this course of action.

I think that anon misunderstood and thought the locket was from Deckard and a reminder and loose string from our relationship with him, and not a keepsake from our childhood and childhood friends

but yeah, don't get rid of the locket

>>30620655
You memorize the address and destroy the note, eating and leaving. You don't regret that happened, but you do admit you miss those long, loving mornings. You sit down in your room, laying back on the bed.

It's going to be a long courtship.
