You are Logan Drey.
When you left Earth about a week ago, it was on the verge of total domination by a rogue AI.
You alone seem to have been spared by fate. After a desperate gambit to escape certain death, you met a strange creature in armor. When you accepted the shield this creature offered you, it whisked you off to parts unknown.

Now you’re a wanderer, the Unchosen Void Knight.

The fight with Kalki went well, until he got serious. After that, no matter how hard you fought, how well placed your swings were, or how strong your defense was, it just didn’t cut it. It was like sword fighting with a swimming pool, Kalki moved AROUND everything.

At the last second before you would’ve been eviscerated, you were expelled into the Void to an unknown destination.

And you wound up landing on earth.

At the moment you lack the firepower to liberate your people, but you’ll be back. You left in a hurry when you got a distress call from Rose, and when you arrived you found her in shambles, surrounded by corrupted creatures.

After beating back the creatures, you brought Rose to Winnow’s house on Bray. Winnow did her best to try and heal Rose, but there’s apparently only so much magic can do. But where it fails, you’re pretty sure you can succeed.

They took her bones.

When Winnow finished up earlier, you asked her for a rundown on what her condition was. She managed to fix up all the bruises and scrapes, but Winnow couldn’t replace her left ring finger or the spinal disk that were missing. She also couldn’t repair the damage done to her spinal cord.

Winnow looks at you in frustration. “I get that you want to help her Logan, but you can’t replace someone’s spine!” She says.

“Yes I can. I’ve done it before.” You say. Back on earth you were something of an expert on these things. Your dad was in the augmentation/replacement business, and because you had a few artificial parts yourself you did a lot of studying on how to repair/install them. “Hell, replacing a bit of spine is probably one of the few things I can do well.”

You spent many long hours studying the process for spinal bridging, so that if you ever came upon a decent piece you could use it to fix Hannah. It’s hard to think that it’s only been about 2 years since she left the wheelchair. You smile a bit as the memory of her standing on her own crosses your mind, the shaky first steps, the adorable mix of shock, excitement and happiness on her face…

You shake your head. The moment, live in the moment.

You mind is starting to wander, and your eyelids still feel heavy. Apparently a catnap on a chair wasn’t quite enough to satisfy your brain after today.

We really need to find out who did it to her. Corruption and Teleportation stones like skeleton keys should not appear in the same sentence.

“So that little thing…” Winnow says, looking at the small cylinder curiously.

“It’s a spinal bridge for someone with a broken back. You make the proper incisions, pop it in, and connect the nerves to it. The piece itself does the rest.” You say, pocketing the part.

“How do you connect the nerves?” She asks.

“Well you use-“ You stop. You don’t have any bio-glue to hook the nerves in.

<I don’t suppose you know how I might go about this?
>I could make amendments to the [Close minor wounds] spell so it can attach the nerves to the implant. I’d have to put my current calculating on hold, but it will take less than half an hour.
<Good, do that then.

“-magic” You finish, trying to act like you had never gotten sidetracked. Unbidden, a huge yawn comes out of your mouth.

“Still tired?” Winnow asks, tilting her head and resting one of her hands on her waist.

“Yeah, it’s been a long day I suppose. Do you mind if I crash here for the night?” You ask. You could just go back to your room in Hovum, but you’d rather not leave Rose right now.

“Sure, you can have the room Parin was sleeping in. It’s right through here.” She says, leading you through the house.

>Continued
>>
Winnow leads you into a small room at the end of her redwood house. “My room is at the end of the hall if you need anything.” She says. Then she crosses her arms behind her back and folds her wings behind her, bowing slightly. “Sleep well Logan.”

“Good night Winnow.” You reply. Then she closes the door, and you hear her footsteps as she walks to her own room. This room looks very much like how you’d imagine a guest room to look. Everything is functional, with very few decorations. One of which is a mirror, which you decide to look yourself over in.

The spot where Kalki cut your face has closed up. Memory plastic is good like that, once it gets a shape it stays with it. The little separator is still black from when it was scorched by that dragon, but it’s still pretty minor.

Your legs have been resisting your efforts to do much of anything today, and you know that they need checking… But damn it are you tired…

You let out a long sigh. You’re tired, yes. But you’ve got enough work to do tomorrow as it is, procrastination does not work to your advantage here.

One by one you take off your legs and make little tweaks here and there, checking to make sure everything is working and will continue to work before you put them back together.

As you re-attach your legs, you look at your arm and groan. The arm is always a pain in the ass without an extra pair of hands. Maybe you can ask Winnow if she can lend you hers.

Tomorrow.

You leave the arm on the small desk beside the bed and lay down. Thankfully, sleep comes quickly.

>Continued

“Logan” You hear a feminine voice say.

You groan and roll over without opening your eyes.

“Logan” It says again, a little more urgent this time. Whoever it is also starts to poke you in the cheek.

“Hannah?” You respond, still half asleep. You roll onto your back and wipe your eyes with your forearm.

“Who is Hannah?” Asks the voice.

You stop rubbing your eyes and open them. “Winnow?” You say, surprised. As your brain kicks into gear you realize that you shouldn’t be, she does live here after all. “Sorry, weird dreams.” You say. Althoguh the weird part about it was that there were no dreams. You had hoped they were gone for good, maybe you got your wish.

“I didn’t want to wake you, since you looked really tired last night. But your friend woke up. She’s pretty shaken up, and I couldn’t quite explain what you planned on doing to fix her back” Winnow says, smiling nervously.

“Not a problem.” You say, grabbing your arm off the desk and following Winnow out of the room.

Back in the main room you see Rose laying pretty much exactly where you left her last night. She’s propped up on some pillows now, and she’s looking out the window with a sad face.

“Good morning Rose.” You say, trying to sound as cheerful as you can.

Her tongue does a quick little flick before she turns to you. “G-good morning…” She says, quickly looking away from her. She points her head back towards her tail, which is lying across the small bed. It keeps going off the bed to the floor, where you and Winnow coiled it up and covered it with blankets. “W-winnow says that you can heal my back.” She says, her stare doesn’t leave her tail.

“Not heal, fix.” You say.

She looks at you quizzically. “There’s a difference?” She asks.

“Healing implies that you’ll be back to the way you were.” You say, walking over to her and pulling the small piece out of your pocket. “Fixing is a broader term; it’s also the proper thing to call what I plan on doing.” You pull a chair up to the side of her bed, getting down to her level before continuing. “This is a spinal bridge. Back home we used to install these on people who hurt their back the way you have. It’s not an incredibly simple procedure, but it’s one that I’m familiar with.”

“Will it hurt?” She asks. She doesn’t seem to understand fully, so she looks a little frightened.

“A little. But the pain will subside.” You say.

She shies away from you for a moment, before looking at you determinedly. “O-okay… Let’s do it.”

“Alright! I just have to do one thing before we get going.” You say. You’d rather have your arm in top shape before you start this.

You were thinking of asking Winnow to help last night, but you’ve changed your mind. Getting Rose to be your extra pair of hands would probably help ease her mind a bit, so you pop your arm off. “I meant to do this last night, but this thing tends to be a pain to maintain.” You turn to rose with a raised eyebrow and a cocky smile. “Mind lending me a hand?”

Rose giggles a bit, but you hear Winnow sigh. “You’re really milking that one…” She mutters.

“Ssssure” She says, before covering sure mouth in embarrassment. The little ‘sss’ seems to have just come out.

Without further ado, you place the arm on her lap and pull out your tools. You really only need her to hold it in place while you tinker, but it’s still necessary. And it’s definitely better than what you had to resort to on Hovum.

It takes about 20 minutes to get the whole thing done. Throughout the checkup you explain the different parts, how they work, what they do, what to watch out for etc. Rose seems interested, and even Winnow sits in on your little ‘Mechanics 101’. You finish up by attaching it and relubricating.

“There, all done. Shall we get to work?” You ask Rose.

She nods, it looks like she’s definitely ready to do this.

Okay, time to get this going. First you have to… put her to… sleep…

That makes ‘wrench in this plan number one’. Hopefully there are no further wrenches.
Before you can ask Winnow if she’s got anything for this, she starts to sing. The song seems to soothe you, but it doesn’t make you tired. The same cannot be said for Rose, whose eyelids immediately start to flutter. Just when she is about to close them, Winnow approaches her. “Sweet dreams.” She says, planting a motherly kiss on Rose’s forehead. And then she’s out like a light. Winnow turns to you, tilting her head and smiling. “Don’t worry, I was prepared for this.”

You laugh at your own expense. “Thanks. I guess I didn’t think all that far ahead.” You say.

Winnow pulls out a bunch of little tools, similar to a surgeon’s kit back home.

Pulling out the tool that appears to be for making incisions, you get to work…

>writing
>>
“Aaaaaaaand… there!” You say, using ‘close minor wounds’ to attach the last of the nerve endings to the little metal cylinder.

<Run a quick scan to see if I missed anything major.
>Scanning…

It took 5 hours. Longer than you were originally expecting, but still exhausting. There was a bit of a hiccup at the start once you got a look inside and found that while your anatomies are similar, they are not identical. Aside from that it went pretty well, aside from the fact that you were pretty much winging it.

Luckily, the part itself was designed to do most of the work here. Once you’ve got the nerves attached to it, it figures out what has to go where.

>Everything seems to have been attached properly. I cannot give you anything further than that.

Anything else will just have to wait until she wakes up and tries to move…

“It’s done.” You say.

Winnow plops down on the chair next to the bed. “That was… interesting… Is that kind of thing common where you come from?”

You take a seat yourself and lean back, looking blankly at the ceiling. “Augmentation is fairly common. Not to the degree that I’ve got, limb loss isn’t incredibly common. It’s mostly neural implants, little bits that they put in your brain that help you think faster or improve your memory” or turn you into a mindless automaton. You choose to leave that bit out though. “There aren’t many people who will waltz into a clinic and say ‘HACK OFF THIS LIMB AND GIVE ME A BETTER ONE!’, though it isn’t unheard of.”

Well, it wasn’t unheard of. Once the resistance started we were looking for all the advantages we could find. Having mechanical limbs tended to be one of those examples.

“Have you had those for a long time?” Winnow asks. She’s pulled her feet up onto the chair, hugging her legs into her chest and resting her head on her knees.

“Long enough that I’ve had to replace and readjust them a few times as I got taller.” You say, placing a hand on your chin and scratching the thin hair that’s there. How long has it been? It’d have to be more than a decade now…

She smiles sadly for a second, her eyes unfocused. “Life hasn’t been kind to you, has it Logan?”

You laugh a little. “There’s a saying back home, it goes ‘life’s a bitch’. I guess that about sums it up.” You say, slumping a little further down into your chair. “But it’s never all bad. I had friends and family back home. And even out here I’ve got Parin, Rose, Jax and you.” You say.

She perks up when you mention her. “I didn’t think you considered me a friend.” She says.

“I think it’s a safe assumption to make. You’ve saved my sorry ass, and saying you helped out with this would be selling it way too short.” You say.

Winnow’s wings flutter, and she gives you a genuine smile. “Thank you Logan. It was no trouble, helping people is just kind of… my thing.” She says.

Your little moment is interrupted by a knock on Winnow’s door. “Who could that be?” She says as she gets up and goes over to the door.

When she opens it, you see a male Veeka with green hair and wings. “Winnow, we need you on the ground. Reeme found a strange person, they don’t seem to be from Bray. You stand up and wave hello to the green haired Veeka. “Mind if I tag along? I happen to be an expert on strange foreigners.” You say.

“Who is this?” Asks the Veeka.

“Oh, sorry. Frank, this is Logan. Logan, Frank.” Winnow says.

“Pleasure to meet you.” You say, extending your hand to frank for a handshake.

“Likewise.” He says, accepting your hand. “So you’re an expert on foreigners?” He asks.

“Pretty much.” You say, scratching your head.

You see Winnow smiling out of the corner of your eye. “I’ll stay here with Rose then, if my skills are needed you can call me.” She says, ushering you out the door.

And when you reach the edge of her house, you sigh. “Right, treehouse. I keep forgetting about that.”

You look at Frank dead in the eyes, your face completely neutral. You punch in Bray’s coordinates and stick your blade into the air, waving it up and down to cut the rift. Then you casually walk into the rift, coming out on the ground. “Mother fucker thinks he’s gonna carry me…” You mumble.

After a second, Frank descends from the house. “That’s a neat trick. Come, Reeme is this way.” He says, taking off on his wings.

You have to run to keep up with him, which is made more difficult than normal because of the rooty forest floor.

Up ahead you can hear some shouts. “I demand to know where I am!” Comes a strong female voice.

You can see a small crowd of Veeka gathered around something, but you can’t quite see what from here. As you come closer, you push through the thin crowd and see a person dressed in bronze armor. The person sees you break through, and immediately addresses you.

“You! Tell me where I am!” She demands, brandishing a spear in your direction.

You hold your palms out in front of you. “Okay, I’ll tell you where you are. But first you have to put the spear away.” You say, keeping your face neutral.

The strange woman eyes you for a moment, before lowering the spear like you asked. She looks a bit older than you, in human years. You aren’t sure how old she might actually be. She’s clad in plain bronze armor, and the spear appears to have been made to match. She has pale skin, and her hair is the colour of rust. On her skin and in her hair you can see little flecks of bronze coloured crystal, and on her back you can see a pair of crystal… fins?

“Thank you, was that so hard?” You say. The stranger is about to say something when you hold up a hand. “Before you ask, this is Bray.” You say.

She’s taken aback by the way you shushed her, but she seems thankful that you told her where she is. “Bray… I’m afraid I don’t know this place…” She says, lost in thought.

“Where are you from anyway?” You ask. It’s safe to say that she isn’t from around here.

“You are awfully nosy.” She says, her hand tensing on her spear. “Who are you? I do not believe that you are from here either.”

“I’m the Void Knight.” You say with confidence. That confidence shatters when you see how confused the stranger is.

"Void knight? Never heard of it. Is that what they call the lovechild of a Kema and an Aklabran?" She asks with a satisfied smirk.

You can feel the eyes of the Veeka on you, waiting for your rebuttal. When did this become some kind of showdown? “I get that a lot. But Void Knight is not my race, it’s my occupation. My job is the defense of the universe, from… whatever.” You say.

“Well you aren’t doing a very good job. All across the universe the people are subject to slavery under the rule of the gods. If not for the Lord Executor, they would go completely unchallenged!” She says, getting angrier as she keeps talking about it.

You recognize that hatred of gods. “I don’t suppose the ‘Lord Executor’ goes by another name, does he? A name like… Monthei?” You say, trying to sound sly.

She looks shocked for a moment, before looking at you suspiciously. “Yes, but how did you know that?” She asks.

“I’ve been around a couple of times. If you serve Monthei, you must be a part of the Proclamation then.” You say, doing your best ‘sherlock holmes’ish deduction.

But the Executor bravely went to fight the Black Elemental on his own. Before we got word of anything, I found myself here.” She says.

“I was at the center of it all, going toe-to-bladed-toe with Kalki” You say.

The ‘Eture’ laughs. “You? Fighting Kalki?” She laughs harder. “I don’t believe that, not for one second. The Black Elemental would be challenging even for the Lord Executor. The idea of a weakling like you lasting even 5 seconds is hilarious! I can’t even sense you in the Aether flows, you’re so weak! Seriously, where were you?” She says, finally calming down, but still chuckling a little.

“Fighting Kalki.” You say, completely serious. “There was a stone in his chest that was causing the Aether disturbances you felt, it was going to rip the planet apart. Someone had to stop him, and I didn’t see anyone else around. Near the end there was a bit of a tremor, I don’t suppose that was your ‘Lord Executor’?”

It looks like she might keep laughing, until she sees how serious you are. “Oh… you actually fought Kalki? How ARE you still alive?” She asks, dumbfounded.

“I’m tougher than I look.” You say sarcastically. You leave out the bit at the end where Kalki started mopping the floor with you.

“Ahem.” You hear Frank clear his throat next to you. “I don’t suppose you two could take this elsewhere?”

lets take this to aklabra. If for no other reason than just to see if it's still there

"Is here... a problem, or something?"

if we take it there....and it is not...what happens to us?

I do not want this stranger near rose not while she is hurt and not not into your friends home

Well... Can we? try to open a portal to one of the proclamation worlds weve been to and kick her ass over there. She can go be rude somewhere else, not doing any good here.

These seem unnecessarily rude. This isnt our world, it's his, we shouldnt act like we own the place.
>>
>>30604654
Agreed. Try and at least put it in a less abrasive way.

“What? Why?” The Eture asks.

“Must I really explain this?” He asks.

Sadly, Frank is right. “No, I got it. We should take this elsewhere.” You say.

The Eture glares at you. “And why should I leave?” She asks.

“The issue with travelling around is that you’re always a guest. When the people don’t want you on their world, your only recourse is to leave.” You say.

The Eture seems to understand, but there’s still the matter of where to go. You’d rather not let strangers hang around Rose, or even let them know that she’s here. With that in mind you…

You call up the coordinates for Meyoun. This lady’s fellow Prolamationists… Proclamators? Proclaimers? Are there. The sooner this is dealt with, the sooner you’re back with Rose to make sure you didn’t totally fuck up the operation.

You pull your weapon off your back, ignoring the way everyone seems to tense up as you punch in the symbols for Meyoun. “Take my hand, I’ll take you to a world where I found a settlement of Geob a whie back.” You say.

“What’s it called?” She asks, again with the suspicion.

“The planet is Meyoun, the Geob’s clan matron is named Fio. Now take the damn hand and hold on tight.” You say. Not really in the mood to assuage this lady’s doubts. Though you suppose you kind of deserve this. The way she’s acting now reminds you of how you acted when you first got to The Crossroads.

Reluctantly, she takes your hand. You grip it tight as you cut through the air and hop off Bray into the Void. You’re entirely used to it by now, keeping focused on the destination ahead. Looking over at the Eture, you can see that she is not. She looks around with a mix of pure terror and absolute wonder.

You step out of the rift on the outskirts of the small village, and casually make your way in. “Good day everyone!” You say.

The Geob take notice of your presence. “Logandrey, what are you doing here?” Asks one of the Geob, you recognize the voice as Fio.

“Dropping off a friend of yours.” You say, indicating the lady you brought with you.

“By what means have you come here?” Asks another voice, this one you don’t recognize. The source of it steps forward, and you see that it is not a Geob, in fact it looks like another Eture.
>>
“Leohrad!” The lady you brought kneels.

“Stand, fellow warrior.” He says, motioning for the Eture to rise.

“Who are you supposed to be?” You ask. He’s probably someone important, judging by the reaction he got.

The Eture considers you. He’s much bigger than the other, and most definitely male. His armor is more ornate, and you can hear a strange ‘humming’ coming from him. After sizing you up for a moment, he answers. “I am Leohrad, the right hand of Monthei, our Lord Executor.”
