You are Yoko Matsuyama, ninja of the psionic Raven Clan. Living high atop the mountain of Tessel Ka, you have trained your entire life for this day: The day that you prove your worth as a ninja.

You've finally tracked the vampire Vasputin to his lair. On the way, you met some of Faulkner's friends: Pug, a nerdy bugbear, and Zenna, a tough young Skarn. You made plans to visit them for dinner in Bugbear Valley after you finish your mission.

Physical Stress: 1

Mental Stress: 0
>You're anxious, but not freaking out or anything

The ruined woods grow ever more decrepit as you advance. Finally, as the sun starts to edge toward the horizon, you come upon a cave. The inside is dark--far darker than it should be. You shiver, and notice that you can see your breath. A dank fog clings to the earth.

Faulkner signals a stop. "I believe the time for stealth is nearly through. He's inside that cave, I can feel it. Vhen ve get in there, do exactly as I say. Do not let him touch you. If he can get his hands on you, you're as good as dead. If you can go for the neck, do it. The heart may be too risky. Understood?"

You nod.

"I don't know vhat vill happen vhen ve go in there. You never do, with vampires, so..." He holds out his hand. "If vorst comes to vorst, it vas an honor to meet you, Matsuyama."

You take his hand in your own with a firm grip.

"It was an honor to meet you as well, as with Pug and Zenna. Would be a shame to disappoint them."

Now, the time for speech is over. You move forward together. As you draw your katar, Faulkner produces his crossbow and dagger. You move in, keeping your eyes peeled for trouble. After a few minutes, you hear a shuffling sound.

"Ah, we have guests. Be a good boy and turn on the lights. We don't want to be rude..."

A dim light fills the cavern--a sickly green ambience that does nothing to calm your nerves. Standing before you is a pale, gaunt man in tattered robes. He stands with his fingers steepled. His eyes glint red. Another shuffling sound, and you see movement out of the corner of your eye. Glancing aside, you see a large green humanoid with sharp features and ragged, rotten skin.

He has a troll thrall.

I really, really wish we had a vial of blood to throw at the thrall.

Works better than a smoke bomb would to normal people.

"Faulkner, it's been too long. I was hoping we would meet again...how's the wife?"

Faulkner sneers and raises his crossbow. "Vhy don't you ask her? I'll send you to oblivion to meet her."

Vasputin snickers and draws a sinister, black-bladed saber. "Bold words for a man at death's door."

He lunges forward, clashing blades with Faulkner. Meanwhile, the troll lurches forward, grabbing at you.

Lure it to strike Vasputin.

/tg/ seems relatively quiet these days, OP.
>>
You hop back away from the troll's sweeping arm. Glancing behind you, you decide to lure the beast toward Vasputin. Using the sound of Faulkner's duel to guide you, you ease backward. The troll stumbles forward, raising its arm to strike. You nimbly dodge to the side, and the arm swings toward Vasputin. Just before it hits, Vasputin dissolves into black smoke for a split second, reforming as the arm passes. Faulkner tries to dodge, but the troll grazes him, knocking his off balance.

Vasputin darts forward, nicking Faulkner in the shoulder. "Where are you looking, Hunter?"

Faulkner grunts and lets fly with a crossbow bolt. It whistles for half a second before lodging into Vasputin's thigh.

The troll is towering over you now, and it lets out a low growl. It raises both hands and tries to grab you again! Looking around, you see that you're pressed up against the wall. Better think of something clever...
>>
>>30577268
Grab, not punch? I guess we can't use its momentum to throw it into the wall.

Duck under, slicing the kneecaps on your way down.
>>
You duck into a roll, lashing out with your katar. As you do, a pang shoots through your left shoulder and you drop your left-hand blade. You grit your teeth as your right katar slices into the troll's knee. As the blade scrapes the bone of the troll's leg, it buckles and slams headfirst into the cave wall.

The shock of the impact causes a slight tremor, which Faulkner capitalizes on to sink his silver dagger into Vasputin's arm!

The troll slowly turns to face you again.

Ah, a comrade! I was beginning to think that Yoko did NOT have multiple voices in her head.
>>
>>30577892
Perish the thought my friend.
Sanity is quite overrated these days.
>>
You leap forward and swipe your blade out at the troll's shoulder. The troll raises its arm to grab you, but you slip past it. The blade digs into the beast's flesh and you see its arm go limp momentarily. You are now behind the troll, and it slowly turns toward you. You have a brief window before it sees you, and you duck in to grab your katar. The troll towers over you again, mere inches from your face. The stench of rotten flesh overwhelming your senses.

The troll's arm raises up above you yet again. This thing has about the same intellect dead as it did alive. You ready your blades, your left shoulder still paining you. As the arm comes down, you slip forward, slicing into its legs again. You feel a snap in the troll's leg, and you see it fall to one knee.

The troll kneels, facing away from you. Your ninja training comes back to your mind, and for an instant you are reminded of the freerunning courses you used to love...

You run, just like you used to back home. You run up the troll's ruined leg and hop up to its hip. You run straight up its spine as it reaches over its head to grab you. You reach the nape of the neck and leap, raising your blades. You soar through the air, aiming straight for Vasputin.

Faulkner sees you and lashes out with his knife at Vasputin. Distracted by Faulkner's assault, Vasputin doesn't see you coming until it's too late. You collide with his back, blades first. He staggers forward, nearly falling over. Your blades sink deep into his flesh, and you can feel them chipping his ribs. Vasputin's gasp is ragged, thanks to the blood in his lungs. Not wasting any time, you pull your left blade out, using the right as a handhold.

The words of the book Grim gave you spring into your head.

>Those affected by the fever can only be put to rest through the same methods used for vampires themselves: Removing the head or piercing the heart

Nice to know you have options.

>Sever the neck

Turn around, fight troll.

Let Faulkner finish him.

>Go for the heart
It's a smaller target, but I doubt we have enough leverage to cut through his neck.
>>
>>30578457
Faulkner told us to always go for the head though. I'm just worried that the troll is coming back with a vengeance.
>>
>>30578457

You are about to strike when you see the troll stand in your peripheral vision. You've definitely overstayed your welcome. Bringing your foot up, you kick off from Vasputin's back, launching yourself to safety.

Well, relatively speaking.

But now Vasputin turns to you, eyes burning with hatred. "You little bitch...Every goddamn time, there's always a goddamn Raven to spoil my fun." His teeth are clenched, and you can see his fangs protruding from his lips. Faulkner follows up on your assault by lashing Vasputin across the back with his dagger. Looking from you to Faulkner and back, you see a faint glimmer in his gaze. Fear? Or inspiration?

The answer comes as he claps his hands. The sound echoes unnaturally through the cavern, as if it were far larger than it appeared.

The lights dim.

The troll is up now, limping toward you as the darkness spreads throughout the room. You probably have about ten seconds before total darkness falls.

>What do?
>>
>>30578700
Fuck the troll, kill the vamp.
>>
>>30578700
I get how this would work on Faulkner, but Yoko can see with psychic powers, right?

Darkness fills the cavern. You close your now-useless eyes and focus on listening. The shuffling of the troll's limp tells you everything you need to know, especially when it changes its rhythm. You hear the rushing air as it swings out at you, likely aiming by scent. You sidestep, and the troll's fist smashes into the floor. The sound of broken bones is followed by a wet sliding. Its hand is likely not in good shape.

You concentrate, listening for the right cue. There. You spin in place, avoiding the beast's gait while scourging his body with your katar. You hear another SNIKT and the troll falls to its knees with a thud. There is another wet slapping sound as it tries to keep its balance with its mutilated arm. It doesn't take.

There's another thud as it falls flat on its face. A low moan seeps from its throat.

You hear footsteps approaching you from the left.

A vampire with a hole in it's chest ought to sound a lot different than a human without one.
>>

Do vampires drip? I hope Faulkner still jingles from all the silver gear he carries.

Is there anything he can shoot so we know it's him?
>>
You ready yourself as the sound draws nearer, then slip aside, nimble as ever. The person walking toward you is breathing heavily, but not haggardly. You hear a faint clink. Spurs?

If its breathing it ain't the vamp. We should locate the undead quickly.

Well my connection seems to be fucked right now. If you guys can bear with my slow speed for a bit, I'd like to finish this scene before wrapping up for tonight. Otherwise, I can call it a night.
>>

Go for it Kick, We got nothing but time.
>>
As he passes, you imitate the birdcall Faulkner used to distract the thrall outside. The footsteps stop.

"Yoko?"

"Hey." You reach out and start walking toward his voice. Apparently he decided to do the same thing, because you soon feel a palm slam into your chest. Unfortunately, you don't provide as much stopping power in that area as some of your friends, but Faulkner seems to realize his mistake anyway.

"Ah, er...sorry."

"I've got bigger problems right now if you hadn't noticed. You got a plan?"

"Er, vell..."

"Oh, good."

You manage to position yourselves back to back. Vasputin's voice echoes over your head.

"Hmm, what shall I do? Two succulent morsels all to myself. Would anyone like to volunteer for the honor of appetizer?"

"Ve had better think of something..."

"Yeah, I'm workin on it." you snap back. You realize that your left hand is wet with blood. Damn, you've probably gone and reopened your shoulder wound.

>Plan?

It's getting late and it looks like I'm not the only one fighting sleep. That's a wrap for tonight, folks. As always I hope you had a good time and thanks for playing! I don't have a lot of experience with action scenes, so this thread was a bit of a learning experience. Hopefully it wasn't unbearable.

I'll be around in the coming days, but I don't know my schedule until tomorrow so I probably won't run until Monday at the earliest. Y'all take it easy.
