I don't know how we can do either of those things. The monster is too strong and fast to fight and the only exit from the patient rooms will send Digby straight to it.

There has to be some sort of escape especially if it's still in the lobby. The best idea is probably to check and see where it's at without getting it's attention.

Here's my best idea.

Make a rope out of bedsheets. Tie one end to the top of the staircase and toss the rest down. If the monster starts climbing it, we start to pull our end up, then suddenly drop it when he gets close. If he climbs the stairs, we'll use the rope to go around him.

This is the best plan that I can think of. Get a large branch, smash up one of the windows, then the monster goes running and we can go back up the rope and down the stairs. At worst, the monster can't get to where the window is, so it's distracted by the noise.
