Last time on Avatar Pilot Quest, you found yourself deep in a set of ruins of the Old Empire, inside of an ancient Golem Foundry. Having run away from your village in search of adventure, you found an intact Avatar. In the process of reactivating it, you plundered an ancient temple for an Avatar Heart and reactivated the entire ruin, attracting a swarm of bug like monsters from the forest. Now you stand in your Avatar, ready to do battle as small two legged bug creatures, children of a massive beast now guarding the easiest passage out of the ruins and back to the main road and safety, you must now fight your way through the monster swarm to get there.

>You are Selena Psylock, a 5'2" tall 16 yearold girl with red hair, freckles, an athletic build, and rather large breasts. You seem to be trying to struggle to prove yourself as more than simply the spare for when the village Avatar finally burns your mother out while she pilots it in defense of the village.

>Avatar:
“Unnamed”
-3 Arms, 2 small and 1 over sized
-Unknown Abilities
-Unknown Spells
-Armed with a bespelled Sword-Spear. Unknown properties.

>Inventory:
-10 copper coins
-1 good bronze dagger with a dyed leather wrapped hilt.
-1 glow-stone, as bright as a torch once activated, but will cause fatigue if used for too long.
-1 set of climbing gear
-1 set of leather armor, not worn currently, but won't take long to get into if you have some shelter.
-1 Hunter's tent
-1 length of fresh hemp rope.
-Old Empire sheet of spell-tattoos
-Amulet bearing a holy symbol of the Old Empire. On an old itchy string for a necklace.

You stand in your avatar on the raised platform, sword in hand. You feel the Avatar as your own body as the spell tattoos running down your neck and arms link you to the Avatar, your soul fueling it's movement and power with a steady trickle of divine essence. Young as you are, you can probably pilot it for a full week without rest (assuming you could eat and drink while within it) if you absolutely had to, though strenuous activity or using spells would run that down.

You have little to no ideas of the capabilities of this Avatar, beyond it being 17' tall killing machine with a long blade to match it's size. There are about 10 of the small insect creatures crawling through the rubble strewn across the main floor of the Foundry between you and the exit.

Your backpack is still on the floor at the feet of your Avatar where you left it, what do?

In your mind you imagine your unnamed Avatar moving foward, it's great feet stomping down, crushing one of the pony sized bugs under those porcelain like metal plated feet.

Another one leaps at you, it's mandibles clamping down on your oversized arm, scoring the metal briefly. You feel the pain of the bite flash through your arm for an instant, and then it is a muted, dull sense, and yet a scratch forms there on your arm. There, but distant. You feel a tug at your mind and soul, and then you can see, both through your own eyes and the eyes of your Avatar that the cuts made in the metal of the avatar's arm are gone. With a swing of your, its, arm, you crush it into the floor. You feel the contact both as a distant sensation in the arm, and in your own arm, a light bruise forming on it, like the kind you might get in weapon's practice.

You manage to get down to the pit, your three arms batting away the creatures as they leap at you, your blade slices them one after the other, and you begin to notice that as you slice them, the blade is growing brighter and brighter with each death it brings.

You stand at the edge of the essence pit, but the steps leading down it are too narrow for the massive Avatar to get down. If you wish to turn off the lights, you need to find a way to shut off the power to the complex, to prevent the liquid essence from being drawn up the pipes from the pool at the base of the pit. Either by climbing down and smashing the machines or cutting off power another way.

You fight your way, your avatar's three arms whirling to slam and smash the creatures around you. With each blow of your arms and each slice of your blade, things seem to change. You feel something flowing into both your Avatar and into your blade.

When the last bug falls, your blade is glowing like a torch, and tendrils of light flow out of it and into the arms of your golem. You can feel things moving inside of your golem, the spell script on the blade looks like it's beginning to move, change, flowing like water.

Time seems to slow down and your Avatar's head is drawn to the blade, even as you begin to step through the doorway out into the ruins, your movements feeling like molasses.

Spell Script forms infront of your eyes. You can't read it, but you do understand it's intent.

>[[Give This Blade's Purpose]]. That's the literal understanding of the script, though the undertones are more 'choose what this blade can do'.

Here OP, have some advice:

-You really need to work on your speed, you'll have trouble keeping a thread alive (It's possible but not encouraged)

-You need to format your posts, give the text some breathing room, even if you have to cut it into two parts.

-Be wary of repetitions ( into the arms of your GOLEM. You can feel things moving inside of your GOLEM), they make your text visibly heavier and cause a drastic drop in quality.

You should also go to the QTG and check the pastebin they always post in the OP.

Hope that helps.

Your blade grows visibly, lengthening and growing heavier as as the edge seems to grow sharper by the moment, the edge of it is almost transluscent and the blade grows nearly twice as long as before, it's noticably heavier in the grip of your Avatar, but still easily held in the oversized left arm's hand.

It feels stronger, and as you step out into the gloom of the ruins outside of the Foundry, three of the bug beasts leap for you. You don't even have to think about it, your arm simply comes up and across, drawing the massive blade with it. Three bisected monsters fall to the ground in front of you, splattering their gooey innards across the front of your Avatar.

The massive beetle creature is still in the central plaza, over turning obsidian trees left and right, though it seems to have stopped dropping new ones for the moment. You can see more of the smaller bug things swarming towards the door behind you and the corpses on the ground right infront of you, they seem far less interested in your Avatar at this moment.

>>30510831
Breaking up the structure is exactly what I mean, always remember that small paragraphs are always easier on the eyes than big ones.
Cut it in 8 if you have to but never make big clunky blocks.

Also add a space between the links and text, helps more than you would think.

You let out a battle cry as you rush at the massive beast. As you do, Divine Essence pours off of you in waves of teal energy like sparks and mist. Your Avatar's face contorts and the mask cracks as a jaw opens up from it.

You feel the earth rumble under your Avatar as you charge, and then leap, your massive blade crashing down against the side of the beast, slicing right into it's flank as it releases a bitter, whining cry, more like a hurt machine or finger nails on chalkboard than anything alive.

The creature whirls to face you, far faster than it's bulk would suggest possible, it's horns catching you against the side of your Avatar and knocking you about. Cracking the surface of your war machine and sending a ripple of blinding pain through your body as the Avatar drains you to repair itself.

Within moments the damage is repaired, but you feel drained, fatigued. You've dealt it a serious wound, but the thing is now shaking itself again, producing more children to defend itself with.

How do you deal with it?

>[] Continue to try to attack where you've already wounded it.
>[] Deal with those horns
>[] Attack the legs, immobilize it.
>[] Kill off the small fry first, prevent them from ganging up on you.
>[] something else.

You dodge behind it's next charge as the creature attempts to gore you upon it's massive horns.

At the same time two of it's new borns lunge at you, deflected by your spare arms while your massive blade slices through the joint of it's front leg, then the next leg, and with a flourish of your sword, the next. All three being taken off with two swings of your oversized sword.

The creature falls down onto it's right side, the gooey blood clotting almost immediately on the limbs, as it roars in anger and hatred.

As the creature falls and feebly attempts to right itself with it's remaining legs, you find yourself now surrounded by a clattering, chittering swarm of it's young!

How do you react?

You don't give the thing a chance to live, You bring your sword up, and then down upon the neck of your foe, almost completely severing the head from the thorax of the beast.

You move, as the thing thrashes behind you, trying to get yourself away from any attacks, even so several deep scars along your back, you can feel the cuts bleed gently, almost immediately clotting as your body reacts and your Avatar heals.

As you turn, you feel something strange happening in your right arms, the plates on them shift, and the woven straps covered in highly intricate spell-script begin to move and flow, reaching for the corpse of the dead beast. They're short enough not to get in your way, but your Avatar apparently has some kind of business with your recently slain foe.

What do you do?

>Ignore the corpse, your avatar can do what it likes AFTER you deal with this swarm.
>Let your Avatar work, those cords might prove a distraction in the fight.

You let the cords from the two arms flow around the corpse of the beast. Your two spare arms move them, weaving them, sewing them around and wrapping them in patterns into the beasts flesh.

It takes bare moments, though you're constantly assaulted by the beast's offspring as they attempt to get at the corpse, and you. Your sword is able to cut several of them down, and fend off the others, but it's only going to be moments before they overwhelm you.

Then you get that sense of slowed down time again, like when your sword transformed.

This time your Avatar speaks to you directly. There are no words for the voice in your head, though it is PAINFUL. Like being struck by a bolt of lightning, a trickle of blood runs down your nose and you taste the metalic tang of it on your tongue as the voice asks you clearly.

"I accept your sacrifice Priest. Now what will you have me use it for?"

Several images enter your mind...
>You see your own Avatar transformed, given the horns of the beast you just slayed.
>You see your Avatar again, with thicker armor that is the same shade as the slain beast.
>The words of a spell from the Old Empire enters your mind, a spell to summon minions of solidified divine essence.
>You feel a blank area as well, some place that you can enter your own thoughts on the matter, though it has to be based upon the creature you just killed you feel.
>>
>>30514274
All avatars do this, it's why they tend to kill their user after a few of decades of use. Your mother is probably not going to live for another 10 years, and she's in her mid 30s. (To be clear, while child mortality is very high, and the average life span is brought low to something like the 30s in this world because of it, if you manage to survive till 12, chances are you'll see the age of 70 assuming you're not in a dangerous profession that involves journeying in the wilds).

There are ways around this, but most of them are unsavory in the extreme. It's the price you pay for having the most powerful weapon on the planet.

That said, maybe with this ability your Avatar you'll find another way that's not as unsavory as the whole warlock method of rendering people down into their divine essence and using it to fuel their Avatars and magic?

The spell enters your mind, and you know it's now encoded into your Avatar. From here on, you can expend energy to summon small insect like constructs made of your excess Divine Essence.

You are taking more damage though from the remaining beasts however. There are fewer of them, but there is still a lot of them. To make matters worse, the corpse you just copied an ability from is slowly crumbling down into dust. They're not getting a meal from it anymore, and seem determined to get a meal from you instead.

>Use your new spell and your blade to cut the rest of them down.

You pull deep into your self as your mouth spews phrases that leave blisters across your tongue from the power they enhance. The teal colored divine essence leaking from your Avatar.

The essence swirls and turns into copies of the beasts you are fighting. They start off indistinct and formless, then solidify into ghostly bug like creatures, their mandibles snapping as they lung for their new prey.

You feel tired from the spell, but you're able to press on. You slice your way into your foes, your blade cleaving through them over and over. Your spell spun creatures managing to keep them off your back, and killing more than a few themselves. They shrug off the wounds dealt to them, only faltering when they sustain so much damage that they completely dissipate, their wounds leaking the divine essence powering their existence.

Finally, your Avatar coated in the sludge like blood of the creatures, and your summoned minions slowly turning into essence mist around you.

You're battered, exhausted, and have many scrapes and bruises, but you're alive, and the ruins are cleared, for now.

The Temple is easy enough to get into even without your Avatar. You very easily get the book, and your Backpack from the foundry. They can be carried by your Avatar itself, or you can keep them with you in the Avatar itself, the choice is yours.

The only thing you have that's large enough to clean your Avatar of the blood is the Hunter's Tent you have. Nothing else will work, and you don't know of a source of water.

You can shut down the entire place by leaving your Avatar, and you'll need to leave it behind when you enter the residential building in any case, it's simply too large to fit inside of the building.

So you guys can spend the night and wait till morning, nothing is probably going to come by. The local wildlife will only come in if there's a major change, it'll take a while for the blood smell to get around, but then they WILL come, and in far larger numbers.

You shut off the lever to the power, and everything goes dark once more. Afterwards, you park your Avatar in front of the Residential area, blocking access to it. When you get out, you'll have to do it by getting into your Avatar and leaving with it.

The Residential area is a large set of apartment like structures. Each room separated, most of them barren, only piles of dust are left. You can explore the central floors more thoroughly, or the upper floors, or the basement levels.
>>

>>
>>30515829
The Upper floor is a large crystal like dome, which is odd, considering that there was no dome on top of the blocky mass, nor was there any glass like structure. It also feels like you're up higher than you remember the top of the place being.

As you look, you can see there are camp fires off in the distance nearer to the horizon, probably your home. Further along, over the very edge of the horizon, you see a glittering needle, supposedly it's right by the sea. It's far past your home. Between you and your home though, you can see through the dome, there's another set of lights, moving through the forest towards your location. Behind them the forest looks like it might be on fire.

That's suicide, you know it is. It'll cause monsters from all around to either race for the new activity, or throw themselves away from the forest fire. There'll be a fucking battle field out there in a few hours... thankfully it's hours away from your village, you can't imagine the damage it would do to any settlements.

You find a room filled with corpses. About 10 skeletons crammed together, some holding each other, others in fetal positions or propped up against the walls as if they slid down them. All of them wear the same clothing as the ones that had been in the Foundry.

Each of them has a copy of the amulet you carry, though most of them are not as wide as a playing card like yours is. Most of them are about half as wide.

You gather up all of your loot, and then move back into your Avatar, taking your backpack with you. It's a tight fit, but you manage it easily enough.

You move out of the ruins for the moment, into the obsidian forest specifically, not into the forest proper. If someone is starting forest fires you feel it's probably wisest to stick out of them. "Shit." you croak, feeling strange to hear your voice for the first time all day. "Not how I expected it to go." and then you begin to pitch your hunters tent.

With your Avatar kneeling down and curled up tight, it's actually able to fit into your tent if you pitch it up against one of the trees. That should give you cover for the night.

You're awoken by several voices talking. They're a ways off, but you can hear them. One you recognize, the trader who gave you the map. “We couldn't have known the girl would manage to get this far.”

“I don't CARE what you -could- have known Ralan.” The voice booms slightly, similar to your mother's voice when she's in her Avatar. The air feels hot, and wind plucks at the edges of your hunter's tent. “You told me you'd find a patsy in the village, the ruins would be activated and plundered, and our little cover operation would be blamed on whoever activated the ruin.”

“Yes mistress but-”

“And then we'd just walk in, take the codex, and walk out. The opposition wouldn't be any the wiser, they'd be busy hunting the blackmarket for the codex while we brought our forces to bear against them.”

“Exactly mistress but if you'd let me contin- ACK!” There's the sound of metal against flesh, and then flesh against stone, a clanking sound and then only strangled gasping noises and various protests in the trader's voice.

“So tell me Ralan. Why is the Codex not here? Why are all the monsters dead.? WHERE IS THE LITTLE BITCH YOU GAVE THE MAP TO RALAN!? WHERE IS MY CODEX!?” The last words are said in a roar that hurts your ears. It's at this point you begin to smell burning wood, and smoke begins to creep into your tent.

What do?
>Peek out, see what's going on.
>Hunker down, pray they don't see you
>Activate your Avatar, bug the fuck out. Get out of here NOW.
>Activate your Avatar and try to sneak out.

I need a roll no matter what you do.

You manage to quietly boot up your Avatar without anyone noticing. You turn the hunter's tent into a sort of cloak for your Avatar, giving it a sort of grey-blue camouflage. As you move, you see a shadowy burning figure about as tall as your Avatar, it holds the trader in it's grasp. "I took your eyes for your last failure Ralan, what shall I take this time hmmm?" Is the last thing you hear as you get out. The forest is ablaze, but your Avatar is immune to the flames. As you walk through them, you see signs of other people having passed through, tracks of a large crowd. This was deliberate. It's unbearably hot as you walk through the forest fire, the air too hot to breath without pain, but your armored suit protects you.

What are you going to do now? Those people wanted something in the ruins. What is this codex? And dare you go back to your home village and possibly lead these people there?
>>
>>30517640
They know which village we're from anyway so they'd check there for us anyway. I say heading back and getting everyone ready just in case couldn't hurt.
>we could also hide our Avatar and the book (guessing the codex) and telling everyone how we went to the ruin but something was already killing the bugs and we bolted
>>
>>30517640
>head back to the village with as much haste as possible and warn them of what's coming.

Ok, if we run off somewhere either (if we're lucky?) she's going to track us down while we're isolated and vulnerable (not good) or she'll double back to the village to try to find us or information of our whereabouts. It would be bad if she unleashed the level of crazy she just displayed if offing her minion at home, especially without them having activate any of their defenses.

The main concern is whether we have to wade through a wall of monster to get home, so let's be quick about it.
>>
>>30517640
if any of the people with the trader are still at the village then we should try to avoid them, but warning Mom and everyone else that there are crazies burning their way through the jungle and that blind trader might lead them here is a good plan
>>
>>30517640
Maybe we can find that opposition she spoke of in a city.

>>30517670
That could work. If they show up we can say a treasure hunter in an Avatar was already there.
>>
>>30517670
>>30517696
>>30517743

You figure that heading home is the best choice. This woman is not going to let the village alone. Maybe you can hide your loot and the Avatar somewhere near the village? First you have to get home though. The forest is going to be a hell hole right now, the monsters riled up an furious, or hurt, or hungry, or all three together.

You need to plot a course. The canopy is the part that's burning, so there are several paths you can take. You can follow the path you marked out before, but that's a straight shot to the crossroad, and that's the route they probably too.

You might also try to aim for your own village and completely avoid the road. But it'll mean cutting through the monsters and the more dangerous and unexplored portions of the forest (which is most of them).

You can also compromise and try to simply aim for further down the road, fewer monsters, and hopefully you'll completely avoid any accomplices of this person.
>>
>>30517875
Aim further down the road.

>>30517798
>Maybe we can find that opposition she spoke of in a city.
You know of only three cities for certain.

There is the great tower by the sea in one direction along the road from your village, and there is the city of Dravidan closer (but still a good few hundred miles off).

There's also the former capital of the Old Empire, but that's thousands of miles, and months upon months of travel away, nearly on the other side of the world. It's original name is lost to the sands of time, now it is simply called Fallen Grace, the greatest city remaining in the world, built from a thousand fallen towers.
>>
>>30517875
further down the road, we want to avoid being seen but double time back home
>>
>>30517875
getting back unmolested is our top priority, best shot we beat them back and can plan what to do worst at least we avoid hassle on the way home
>further down the road
>>
>>30517911

You begin heading out through the forest. This time you're moving fast. The forest fire proves challenging to move through, but it's not impossible. The worst is does is slow you down some. Luckily you got just enough sleep to recover from the fight before.

Occasionally you pass by monsters who are far more worried about escaping the blaze. But after about half an hour of running manages to get you to the road. You have no idea how close you are to the village, but you know what direction to head in. Unfortunately, your way is blocked.

Something made of rot and vileness blocks the path. It's body smoulders from flames, and it looks like it's out to take a hunk out of whatever it comes across first.

That happens to be you.

You actually recognize this creature. A Rotmonger. Your mother killed one last year that came close to the village. It was much smaller than this one, which towers over twice your size. Thankfully, it's wounded.

Do you fight it? or avoid it?
>>
>>30518214
>Fight it.

You activate your summoning spell, your essence fueling the creation of a half dozen bug like constructs. They immediately go in for the kill, their pincers acting like hedge clippers on the Rotmonger's limbs.

Your own sword slices into the massive beast, cleaving into it's side as your summons clip into it.

Vine like segments go flying, rotting away as they fall, anything they touch rotting away as well upon contact.

It doesn't seem to be too unhappy about the losses though, if anything, it's moving faster the more weight you cut off from it.

You duck under it's arms, your blade slicing upwards under it's neck, cutting right into it's neck, but no wear near deep enough to cut it off. The roots are simply too deep fro the power you need to separate the head from it's torso. But you ACTUALLY get it to scream in pain.

In a complete rage, its arm sweeps and takes your Avatar in the midriff, throwing you back a good 15 meters. In the time it takes you to even collect yourself from the attack, 3 of your 6 constructs have been smashed into quickly evaporating paste.

I CAN KILL THIS THING

A moment of despair fills you. It's huge, it towers over your Avatar, this thing made you feel like a god while fighting that beetle, and now, now look at what it did to you. You watch as it crushed two more of your remaining summons and begins to strangle the life out of your last one. It tossed you away like a rag doll, and it took a fucking great sword that you've seen cut through iron hard chitin to the neck like it was nothing.

You remember what your mother did though... you know these things are not unkillable, you know they're not unstoppable. You know what lies behind you, and this fucking pile of rotting mast will not stand between you and warning your home.

Your charge. Your blade dragging along the cracked stone ground of the road, leaving a long cut in it as you move.

At the end of run, you duck under it's claws and bring your blade up in an arc, the sword flicking with greater energy than if you had just swung it as it catapults up from the rocky ground and slices the head off of the beast.

The head tumbles, teeth nashing and the last air hissing from it's lips as you see something pulsing dark, green, and glowing deep inside of the cavity of it's body, exposed from the stump of it's neck.

You don't even hesitate. Your two right side arms reach in, grabbing it, and pulling. Tendrils and roots twitch and try to wrap around your avatar's limbs as you place a boot against it's thrashing torso, and rip it's heart right out of it's body.

>cont.
>>
>>30518715

Immediately that burst of fire in your mind sings, and the voice of your avatar rings clear.

"Another worthy foe falls my Priest." it says clearly into your mind. As the wraps under the two right side arms pull free and begin to wrap around the heart.

What power do you absorb?

>Do you gain minor regeneration? Allowing you to reattach parts of your Avatar that are lost rather than drawing essence from your soul to rebuild them?
>Do you enable yourself to rot organic matter at a touch?
>Do you take some other power based upon this creature's shape and abilities?

Rot vine spinner
>our two smaller arms can "weave" vines that can bind and potentially rot those who touch it
>>
>>30518738
seems legit. Also might let us survive a bad situation.
>>
>>30518752
damn, that kinda cool

>>30518736
You guys rolled pretty damn well. If you'd rolled any less than that I was going to have it back hand the fuck out of you after the decapitation due to the fact it wasn't dead yet. You rolled good, it was too good to pass up.

>>30518752
Regeneration or this guys? I should remind you that being 'delimbed' is the only thing the regeneration will effect. Deep cuts and scratches will be healed normally. It does not solve the whole 'soul being sucked out' problem, it just mitigates it.

Just wanting to make sure that's clear before you make a final decision between the regeneration and the rot vine spinner (because that's fucking cool)
>>
>>30518725
Does our mother have the regeneration? She did fight one before.
>>
>>30518773
hmm, can we get regen later from other creatures and/or another rotmonger?
>cause i could do rot spinner
>>
>>30518773
They both sounds pretty damn cool, but I think regeneration will be more useful to us in the long term.
>>
>>30518776
Her Avatar doesn't have the ability to suck out abilities. You don't know if that's a common power or not, but it's not one your mother's avatar is capable of, and you never thought to ask if any of the avatars that passed through your village gained their powers that way.
>>
>>30518773
What exactly happens when an avatar loses its limb?
>>
>>30518773
immobilize with the rot spinner then finish off with the sword, or reattach limbs...hmmm
>>
>>30518818
Normally a pretty big chunk of your mental and physical stamina is sucked out along with a good chunk of your soul as the Avatar rebuilds the limb from scratch. You can prevent it from doing so, but it's generally a knee-jerk reaction on the part of the Avatar. Any repairs done after the fact are generally no where near as effective as the soul-based regeneration method. This ability would let you reattach the limb immediately and prevent the knee-jerk reaction from your Avatar in battle.

I guess it depends on what kind of Avatar you guys want to make? Are you intending on allowing your Avatar to take a ton of damage? Or do you think you'll tailor it to avoid damage and deal it instead?

It could go either way in the way you've been playing Selena and her so far unnamed Avatar.
>>
>>30518866
I should mention that 'souls' function on the dresdenverse rules here. Your soul isn't 'damaged' by having bits of it sucked out, and it regrows after time. But constantly using it as a battery, in this universe, does take it's tole on the body. Basically, the soul is a semi-renewable resource. You can burn it all out in one go, or make it last years.

Regen it is.

And with that, I'm going to call it a night guys. I'm taking tomorrow off from running the game. Chapter 4 will be on Friday, between 6 and 7:00 pst.

It's been a lot of fun, and I'm loving this. You guys are cool. I hope you're enjoying this. Next time we do this. I think I'm going to try to see if I can mock up some quick and dirty photoshop stuff to give battles a little more to go on. It won't be Iron Hearts quality tacti-cool combat, but it should be stickfigure game worthy at least.
>>

There seemed to be a lot of support for the names you proposed earlier. And they're going to be my starting trinity for when the name vote gets called on Friday once you get back to the village, so whether or not you're here to suggest them on the 28th of February, they'll be the first choice most people see. I can't promise anything more than that though.
>>
>>30519101
