(( Previous threads:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=SoulQMTwitter:https://twitter.com/SoulQM Erick's inventory and Shards:http://pastebin.com/MxM1SNLw ))You are Erick Valstein, Shardkeeper. Having rested after protecting Callestria from the attack of another practitioner of your craft, your best friend and fellow apprentice from your childhood many years ago, you recently assessed the quality of your equipment before preparing to embark on a trip with the band of hunters you met, who make their home just outside the city.Right now, you're at their lodge; Daeron, Sonia, Grato, and Rebecca are all nearby, checking their gear and inventory in preparation for another mission. You've got a few rumors to chase after, so there's guaranteed to be something to do; the caves down the coast from the fishing villages to the south sound quite promising, as does the rumor of great beasts from a place called Imadagne crossing the border into the greater Callestrian forests in the far east. Also in that direction, you've been told that the inhabitants of an entire town “mysteriously vanished” without a trace. Provided it's true, the captain of the city guard, Isaac Forstner, most certainly knows something more about that; he owes you a favor, as members of the guard now seem to respect you as an unknown hero. Luckily, they don't know the whole story...What will you do?>Rally the group for a hunting expedition to the east, to find out why dangerous monsters have begun migrating toward Callestria from Imadagne.>Head south to Outset Cove. If people don't do much fishing nowadays, there's bound to be something lurking in those caves.>Seek out Isaac Forstner, the Captain of the Guard, and ask about the disappearance of Pleasance's inhabitants.>Practice some Soul ritual.>Other

If it sounds best to you, we'll head out in just a few minutes. I doubt we'll be gone more than a day, and I'm sure someone out there would take us in for the night if necessary. Pack a lunch.”“Yep.” As she starts down the hallway toward the kitchen, your vision drifts over toward your halberd at the wall. You make sure the room is clear before swinging it back and forth to get a feel for its weight, then toss it over your back.>Time to head out. A faint green glow then floods the room as you fold the garment in your lap and pull Ilyanas's Shard free of it, doing the same with the Mountain King Greaves. You let a moment pass, then complete the Infusion, recalling the ferocity of Tregalis as stony scales breach the surface of your old dusty cloak, forming armor plates that cover the garment's whole. You wipe your brow—you'd hate to tire yourself out before even leaving—then look to the sylvan Shard in your hand. What will you do?>Other

You allow the Shard of Ilyanas to crumble into a swirling ball of light and apply it to the weapon. The wood grows over with a darker brown color, like a more natural tree bark, that splits off into knots and leafy growths. In some places, it splinters away from the weapon disconcertingly, revealing a grayish organic matter beneath, like a serpent attempting to wriggle free from beneath the surface.>Shard Infusion – Ent's Ire: A straight-shooting bow reminiscent of the body of Ilyanas. Callestria is quiet. The city's inhabitants go about their business noticeably more solemnly in the undamaged parts of the city; as the five of you pass through Sapphire street, you notice that a blockade has been set up at the shop you broke into last night, with the store's owner speaking to a pair of uninterested-looking city guards. Then, as you draw nearer to the site of your battle with Anise, you see crews standing by assessing damage to buildings and groups of workers beginning to pick up the pieces.Sonia makes energetic leaps and bounds to stay ahead of you, and on her account, your group seems to be the loudest thing in the city as you draw closer to the gates. “Alright, crew! The destination of this journey is Outset Cove! Today, we'll be defeating a great monster with the help of our guest of honor, the hero of Callestria!”You and Rebecca sigh in tandem, and she speaks up as you cross the threshold onto the hill outside Callestria. “Not now, Sonia. We're just making a short trip to scout out the area. Like I said, the hunting avenue on Outset Cove has been abandoned for a while, to my knowledge.”“That village is one big fishery now.” Daeron nods at you. “Docks full of people, and boats floating around off the shore.” “So chances are we'll find something nice on the old hunting grounds.” Rebecca continues.“And if that's the case, we'll handle it quick, and let the villagers clean up after us.” Daeron adds. “Sounds like a good deal to me.”“Aye, but we might have something else to worry about.” Grato grins. “I was in the market square not too long ago, when I heard that the best fishing spots out there are starting to dry up—and not because of overfishing, either! Maybe soon, it'll be the second ghost town within a day's travel of here, and then...”“That'll be enough, Grato. I'd rather you not curse us.” Daeron adds. “Remember last time we went out chasing rumors? I almost got my ass roasted...”
>>30440986There's a strange sense of deja vu as you continue down the hill; you recall blurry half-memories of making your way into the city on the brink of exhaustion several days ago. Now, you see the grassy plain ahead of you and the massive city gates at your back in greater clarity, and in the far distance ahead, you see the hills rising up over the shoreline. With the sun high in the sky, you continue to the south, and travel for some time before a quiet-looking village comes into view, sitting a ways away from the shore with wide hills rising up in the distance to the east and west.A little longer, and you pass into the village—in some ways, it reminds you of home. The shore is visible a distance ahead, past houses and buildings; there looks to be a wide building ahead, perhaps a store, and another square building, made of metal, sitting on a stone foundation. Your presence doesn't seem to be out of the ordinary, or warrant any particular response; you see a few people making their way from building to building or home to home, walking toward the shoreline or tending to small, fenced-off gardens.“Sure you weren't exaggerating, Daeron?” What you see at the far end of the village doesn't meet expectations. There's no fishing boats save for a few small dinghies tied to the docks or beached just on the water's edge, and no one fishing save for one or two men who don't look like they're having any particular success from here.“Huh... no fishers. No boats.” The bowman stalls. “That's off.”“This is the village, right?” You ask. “Where's the Cove?”“Spans the beach along the cliffside, to the east and west of here.” Rebecca says. “Bunch of little caves and inlets and such.”What will you do?>Keep the group moving down the beach to the Cove proper.>Ask one of the fishermen what the problem is.>You could get used to this place. >>30441069>>30441269What you figure are houses are relatively few in number, a testament to this village's presumably low population. There's a pair of these nearly identical “residential areas” on either side of the village, each with five or six houses arranged in a line. Some have painted doors and window frames, and some have hunting trophies similar to those in the lodge at your home village, though noticeably smaller. Others are decorated with small, fenced-off gardens out front, where flowers and vegetables grow. In the center of town, there's a wide, two-story building that looks to be the center of civilian traffic; as you pass by it, you see shelves stocking goods inside. Nearby that, you spy a tin, thin-walled looking building sitting on a thick cobblestone foundation; smoke pours out of a vented chimney on its roof, and a metal-barred window gives off a warm orange light.(Cont'd)
>>30441084>>30441151The village grass gives way to a few feet of muddy ground where the docks are; to the east and west, sandy beaches stretch along the cliffside as far as the eye can see. By the time you arrive, there's a lone fisherman at the end of one of the wooden structures, and you make your way over to him with the four hunters in tow, just in time for him to pull his line free of the water and give a dejected look, having caught nothing.“Damnit, damnit, damnit.” The young man sighs.“Something the matter?” You ask as you draw nearer. “Forgive me, I thought fishing out here was... better.”“It... usually is, but the waters have been running dry, so to speak.” The man responds, shaking his head.Grato gives a toothy grin, and the other members of the group glare at him.“That sounds natural, though.” Daeron adds. “Could it be you've just put a dent in the population?”“Well, the people that live out here all fish together. We limit our catches and don't waste 'em, either—and we rotate spots every now and again. We can see how we affect the population, but it's more than that... lately it's like there's just nothing out there.” The man nods, and you look at the still ocean waters beyond, a motionless plane reflecting the sky above. What will you do?>Other

We haven't done any proper hunting in years, so naturally there's some weird stuff growing up in those caves. I haven't seen it myself.”The huntress nudges you with her elbow, reaching for her glaive. “Sounds like we've got our work cut out for us.”“Hang on.” You look back to the fisherman. “What about water spirits?”“Huh. Truth be told, I haven't a clue how this place got to be so big into fishing, but a lot of the guys used to tell a story about how we left the hunting grounds behind when a water spirit blessed us with prosperity, way back when.” The man shrugs. “I dunno if I believed it then, but it sounds like a good explanation now.”“Has anyone around here seen anything out of the ordinary recently?”“Not that I know of.” The man sighs. “Not sure what you mean by that, but it's been pretty damn quiet these last couple of days. Bits of driftwood and broken crates, planks and barrels dot the water's edge, and the gently swaying tide occasionally brings in short ropes of seaweed briefly before sweeping them away. There's a large cave ahead on the right that digs into the cliffside and seems to lead a few feet underground; the beach is divided by a short chasm with rocks on either side, with water several feet below, sloshing in and out of the partially submerged opening. You stagger a bit, surprised—this time, the presence reaches out to you from somewhere further beyond, now clearly interested. What will you do?>Investigate the cave.>Hop on past, and keep tracking the Spirit.

Pushing against the rocks behind you, you slide free of the monster, finally catching a glimpse of it. Lucky for you, it wasn't moving much faster; the thing looks about the size of a small building, like one of the shacks in the swamp village. It's an odd-looking cross between a large worm and a crustacean-like creature, with a pair of large claws flanking its round mouth of gnashing teeth, and six spindly, segmented legs flailing wildly about the center of its body. The top of its head resembles a fleshy mound, housing a pair of large antennae and a number of eyes.Rebecca appears to have been caught by one of the claws, and you see her fall beneath the creature, into the water at the bottom of the chasm. From above, Grato leaps toward the beast, and swings his axe wide with a mighty shout just as your Seismic Shroud gives off a protective blast that cracks the stones at your back; the monster squeals as the combined attacks, along with its own momentum, send it flying into the water beyond the shore.
