My people, to me! It is now the Sacred Time and we tell the history of our people in keeping with the old traditions. In the previous two years, Clan Fimbulvetr renewed their feud with the Greydog clan, after that clan revealed themselves as horse defilers. Some Mostali traded a treasure to the clan that prevented great failures and great successes. Preferring the stories that result from such, the Magnet was traded to the Lonisi as an apology. Horrible portents were seen on the Red Moon, but a divination revealed the claw marks were the work of a hero traveling to the Moon to fight Chaos there. Two new nobles appeared, a worshiper of Chalana Arroy and another Elmali.
We lead off with normal harvest and no omens. Interesting times ahead?Just a heads up: Due to a social engagement I only have four hours to run this. After said social engagement I will return, but that's likely to be some three hours later.
For going to Kero Fin last year in accordance with the omen, we get a single point of magic.
We get news about the Tedanling's new chieftain.
>>30395025no worries, you should go to social engagementsProper social rules and hospitality is what our ancestors would want!
Aw yeah, it's Dragon Pass time bitchesPass the widebrew and sacrifice a cow
And here we are. I keep expecting news that Onelisin or Leika has dropped dead, but they're hanging on.This year, we want to sacrifice for the Battle Luck ritual, continue exploring Dragon Pass, prepare our ring members' various replacements, do ill to the Greydogs and Jenestni, try to balance our fields and pastures (again), and maybe feed nobles to Cragspider grinder so we can get a Trickster. We should start with the sacrifice. Unless anyone has a different suggestion I'll go with that.>>30395093Speaking of, I'm going to be doing an event in March. It's the most fun you can have without a dump truck of illegal drugs delivered straight to your house, but it's a huge investment of time and energy. I'll have no time during the first two weeks of March, and be so drained at the end that I'll hate everything for a week after. My intention, thus, is to win the game before March. Let's see if we can pull that off.
Battle Luck is good. Directly improves your chances of winning a given battle. Since we have no problems killing enemies more enemies than we take losses but still lose on occasion, we should have had this a while ago.
The Orlundi (our splinter clan) is in the midst of a drought. They appeal to us for aid in performing Orlanth and Aroka. Interestingly, Onelisin's advice is much different from anyone else's. Perhaps because she's a Vingan, and Vingans count as Orlanthi? Could also be that she's performed the heroquest so many times. More than ten at this point. She suggests sacrificing nine cows.
>>30395542Mm, let's listen to her.
Orlanth and Aroka, difficult? How odd.Still, at least we didn't get caught in it.
Sea 2 now. We want to try and keep our weaponthanes on hand for the imminent raids, so I'm going to play with the land usage sliders again. You'll note: More farmers than children. Feels good.
We'll kick pastures up by 50 hides.
>>30395808I know we don't need to do it since we're not expecting a shit harvest, but how come there's no slider for kicking up the rye percentage?
No event, so it's action time.Boosting pastures by 50 only took one more person. I might have to experiment with this.Anyone up for blasting fields? We wouldn't want the Jenestni or the Greydogs to eat this year. We'll send someone to Cragspider next.>>30395865You can't adjust the grain distribution in Fire or Earth season--it's already in the ground. You can change it in Dark, Storm and Sea.
>>30395910It's Sea season in that pic, though.
>>30395910The Greydogs have been pissing us off more lately, yeah? If so, hit them.
We curse the Greydogs.>>30395950My bad. In that case, it's because lowering barley increases rye. When you increase wheat, it comes out of barley. When you increase barley, it comes out of rye. There's no rye slider because barley controls both.
Humakti come to us asking for help in killing the undead. Do we agree to their request for men?
>>30396090Ahhhh, got it.Eat it, Greydogs.
>>30396128We ought to, we need to keep Humakt on our side.Don't send the entire lot though, we'll need guys to stick behind for the inevitable raids.
Ten Fimbulvetr thanes are the equal of a hundred mere mortals.
Hopefully the expedition goes well. Undead to the South? The Marsh is to the East.
Ernaldesta is an Issarian with Good Bargaining. We have three total. The solution is obvious.
Problem, Greydogs?Have to wonder what the in-game effect of a Maran Gor curse is.
It's Earth season now. A good time to send exploration teams out. After that we could do more sacrificing, there are still rituals to learn.
Looking at the map, there are still places to the East and to the South that have yet to be explored. The expedition will go South, unless someone has a preference. Yes, I know what the picture shows.
>>30396472Where would be a good place to send an expedition?
>>30396538South then, I suppose.
The expedition will go South. The thanes we sent to kill zombies come back. Two fatalities.>>30396543Well, there are some places with treasures we've yet to discover, but we've got most of the good stuff.I'm interested in clearing as much of the fog on the map screen as possible. The main chunks of that are the two places I've mentioned and just south of Tarsh.
Orlanthi Wind Lords descend on the tula. After telling stories and entertaining the children, they ask for assistance in their mission. Do we give them cows, goods or magic?
>>30396733Hm. If we were a full-blown Orlanth clan I'd say send weaponthanes. We're not, sooooo...I'm split between goods and magic, both of which we are floating in.
>>30396835Considering we're always running out of space for the cows, I went with that.
Well this is awkward, my monitor is crapping out. Give me a minute, I'm switching it out.
And back.In the second half of Earth season, we might try recruiting extra thanes. There are three available for hiring. Any objections?
It's now Dark season. It's time to decide: Do we raid the Jenestni or the Greydogs? The Greydogs pissed us off much more recently.
>>30397761We've denied them their crops, I don't see why we can't deny them their lives.
Time to start the raids.
Orlanth's vengeance spirits harass the Greydogs. Onelisin takes advantage, and her magic blasts them apart.
Our victory is glorious.
Cragspider is an all-natural recycling solution.
Elusu has a dream that tells him to heroquest post-haste. Want to wait until Storm? We can use a heroquest to buff Harvar.
The cult of Yinkin approaches us and offers to perform the alynx improvement ritual. This will decrease the rate of food spoilage and lower disease rates for several years. We've seen this event before. Anyone remember how to get them to do the ritual for free?
>>30398147Show them the kittens.
I love the description of this event. This really is a free chance at success, if it fails you can try one of the other options.
Our weaponthanes are at one anothers throats over loot division. The ring is actually pretty well split over this. Elusu suggests we do nothing, and Onelisin suggests that there's hazing on the part of the older thanes happening behind the scenes.
>>30398334Divide it evenly, laugh as everybody goes home mad.
Seems they accepted that choice.
All that and it's still Dark season. We'll raid the Greydogs again.
Or we would, if not for bad luck on the trip.
The trolls raid us.
We lose a single farmer in the process of driving them off.
It's now Storm season. Since we want to heroquest later, what should we lead off with? An exploration or some gifting? Might be fun to try and get the ducks to join the tribe.
>>30398978Continue exploring south, maybe?
Come to think of it, the last expedition hasn't returned yet. Some bad news on the horizon I expect. This fine fellow is our newest noble, an Odaylan. He's going to follow Enothea.
The Greydogs raid us. Seems they forgot what we did to them last month.
Elusu gets the relative's killer event. Given that he's got Heroic Magic, I picked that option and Elusu made his head explode.
I can't believe we took any casualties at all in that battle.
>>30398978Bring the Ducks in.
For our yearly heroquest, I'll put Harvar through Orlanth and Aroka. >>30399239Not something we control, sadly, but we can make them like us so that the event where they offer to join might occur.
Blood, water and mead covers the earth and Harvar powers up.Interestingly, the seduction of the Dark Woman failed in the middle. Spitting Widebrew into her eyes did for her.
Seeing this means Enothea is likely dead. Since she was an Odaylan I don't care, but she did have Heroic Combat.
Still overcrowded? Really? I give up.That's the year. I'll be leaving on that break I mentioned, but I will return in several hours. Keep the thread open or see Twitter (@WatashiwaOnline) for when I restart.Hope to see you then.
>>30399489Guess this means you won't be participating in Joker Quest, either? Bummer.
>>30399623Relating to the long term break, not this shorter one, I mean.
>>30399652That's correct; trying to do both would probably kill me. There's a chance we'll still be in the Hive so try not to get us killed.
>>30398978I had the Duck event and i accepted them in my Tula and was granting my pledge to let them join my Tribe (at that time i was the leader) but the other Clans refused. My reaction was: ........SHIT!
>>30400543Yeah that can happen a lot.
>>30402221It's inevitable, I believe. I've never seen the clans accept the ducks. The most you can get for them is special ally status or somesuch.
Here we are in Sacred Time. This year's omen says we'll have a typical harvest, except for the barley. We'll have to reallocate immediately.
Old age finally does for Onelisin. So passes the last of the First Ring.Leika hits her third age portrait.
>>30404337That means we need to do mostly wheat, with a bit of rye. Rye feeds less, but we can't do only wheat because it has a chance of failing, right? Either way, we have enough stored as cushion.
First order of business is installing Hindala in Onelisin's place. This is our chance to do any other rearranging. We worshipers of Urox and Chalana Arroy in the wings, should we want to replace anyone we've got now.>>30404383That's correct. We'll shift forty percent of our planting to wheat from barley. Have to remember to change it back in Dark season though.
>>30404436With rearranging both the crops and the ring, that takes us immediately to fire season, right? And fire season means exploration, so what do we have left?
No event, so I move our barley crop to wheat. And what the hell is up with that hunting food income?>>30404512Sacrificing for one. I like to put Battle Luck up as soon as possible. We can also explore the tula and heroquest earlier than normal.
Before it becomes Fire season and we're free to raid the shit out of them, one of our people claims he was insulted by the Elkenval. How do we respond to their jibes, threats or cursing?
>>30404583Threaten a raid so we can wait until fire to actually do it.
The Elkenval rub their thanes's collective face in their mistake, and we get paid for their trouble. Works for me.
We're going to build a temple to Humakt for permanent Battle Luck.
With no event we go to Fire 2, where how in hell do we have 50 hunters. One moment, I'm changing that.
This is actually sad, Sara Goodseller has some exclusive treasures.
The Stag Hearths attack with a lot of spearmen.
Numberwise we certainly came ahead, but I still don't like reading that we lost people.
The Anmangarn are hot on their heels.
>>30404974Shit, are these the "known for their warriors" clan that get free troops out of nowhere? Or did we fail to agree on a truce and they got free mercenaries?
The fight starts poorly, with many thanes ready to flee at a moment's notice. Rather than have him go for Elusu, Hengall leads the countercharge, proving once and for all that our farmers are better than most warriors from other clans. Hell, he proves he's better than most of our warriors, this is awesome.>>30405037We haven't raided these guys in a while, that's the Jenestni you're thinking of.
How does defeat taste, Anmangarn?
Uraldans from the Old Owls come to us and offer to perform a ritual to make our cows healthy. Wonder if it works on starvation?Do we let them perform the ritual? What do we give them for it?
>>30405150Give them 30 cows, as I understand it, our pastures are overflowing, and we'd rather have healthy cows than too many sick ones.
>>30405150Gifts are good. We've got plenty of goods and cows to offer as gifts.
Thirty cows it is. Improved the carls' mood, too.
Earth 2. Might have been better to explore earlier, but oh well. We can do that now or kick up how many crafters we have.
>>30405317How many farmers do we need? I think the ring members actually tell you on this screen if you click them.
474 in total.
>>30405383Sweet math, bruh. Let's try to get plenty of crafters then, since I don't think we can add more than 100, which is the point where we would be risking having insufficient farmers.
We can handle thirty more crafters.
Called it last year.
Oh wait, now it's Earth 2. Getting a bit ahead of myself. Want to send an exploration party East?Taking a peek at the reorganization screen, we've got two new nobles, another Chalana Arroy worshiper and another Ernaldan. One or both of them might go to Cragspider, they're nothing special.
>>30405575Could we perhaps send them on constructive exploration, so either we find something, or they die?
>>30405643We could. Problem is, most of the exploration treasures are found after a combat, so you need some thanes along to get the treasure. Since we want the nobles dead but the thanes alive, that becomes problematic. That reminded me though, it's been a while since we've explored the tula. Not that it bore fruit.
We're celebrating a wedding with a member of the Gorinds. The carls are happy, the thanes are happy, and giving blessings means giving magic. What do we do at the event?
>>304057944, bribe the fuck ...I mean, give honorable gifts to the Gorinds. A host is expected to be generous.
>>30405794Who are the Gorinds and why do we care? Are they in our tribe?
Gifts of cows and goods makes all well between our clans. Unfortunately 4chan saw malicious code where there was none, so just know that the Gorinds praised our gifts.>>30405862They're the hunting clan, and yes they are. They were an early game friend, and I think they were the ones who initiated the alliance with us.
Raiding time. Are we striking at the Greydogs or the Jenestni? And should we burn their steads or take plunder?
>>30405931Let's revisit the Jenesti if there's no treaty in place protecting them. Whatever you feel like doing to 'em.
I have no face to adequately describe my face at this point in time.
>>30406123have pity on em Q___Q
Orlgard you're embarrassing us.
This could mean they have no defenses.
For the second half of Dark season we raid the Greydogs, and the results are similarly delightful.
No casualties on our side, needless to say.
Unusually, the Chalana Arroy priestesses come to collect their due. They want 80 goods. We have 3000. Think we can afford it?
>>30406284Dear gods, that's almost a full 3% of our goods! What do they think we are, the richest and most generous clan in all of Dragon Pass?Oh wait, that's exactly what we are. Hand it over and godspeed to them.
Wow, it's that much? It's not like we won't have it back in a year.
War has broken out in Dragon Pass. The Culbrea and Malani tribes seek one another's destruction. Our clan has been victimized by this turn of events. What does the clan do in the face of the brewing war? This is the first endgame event. Be warned, gentlemen, the rails are out in force.
>>30406656Aw shit. I have a feeling we're not meant to take sides, but...hrm. What to do.
>>30406656How much are we looking at the cheat sheet to not go off the rails?Even without knowing about the rails, I'd lean towards 4. Sacrificing is taking a passive role, and demanding compensation is just trying to take advantage for ourselves.
Having chosen to broker peace, we now need to choose our emissaries. Elusu and either Enfrew or Randella are our best options.>>30406756Entirely up to you. You can go in completely blind, look at a LP elsewhere, or use the wiki. I've done this before so I know exactly what the right answers are. If you like I can run it all myself. Spoils a bit of the fun though.
>>30406839Eh, let me flip a coin. Tails, my vote's for Randella.
Calling for peace was the correct move. Our leaders managed to do their jobs as well. We've initiated the endgame.
That comes later. For now, it's Storm season. I'm going to adjust our planting schedule back.I don't believe that takes time, so shall we explore again? We're going on a heroquest at the close of the season.
>>30406959Sure, why the heck not.
Jarosar leaves to seek fame and fortune.
Haven't seen Tusk Riders in a while.
They got us good, but we did better.
We'll put Harvar through Orlanth and Aroka again, just to make sure we're not completely screwed if Elusu drops.
Seems like the thanes are in a difficult spot.
>>30407333Stats on Harvar now?
And that's the year, and the thread. Thanks for participating all, hope you had a good time. We're into the endgame now, so thing should start happening again. I'll try and pick up the pace, the ending is in sight.I can't stay around to answer questions this time I'm afraid. The next thread should be soon, more than 24 hours though. If you use Twitter, mine (@WatashiwaOnline) will keep you posted.>>30407380Same as before, Renowned Magic from what I can see.
>>30407403Sorry, that should say "Same as before, but with Renowned Magic".
>>30407352those women are evil, like, holy shitwe should sacrifice to Chalana Arroy to cure their food
>>30395304What event is that, if you may?
>>30404362R.I.P. OnelisinWe'll miss your elf hating, boner confusing ways.
