Recent Events Summary:

You pursued Matthel into the bowels of the cathedral, and managed to subdue him. However, you let your guard down, and he used the opportunity to warn Metatron to release the sigil's anchor and move it to safety.

Arcturis, Hemmelus, and yourself entered the sigil cavern to stop Metatron. A prolonged battle forced Metatron to activate his most powerful spell, which, while killing him, managed to hold you off long enough to transport the sigil to safety.

You're now regrouped with your allies, and Arcturis, who has comitted himself to your alliance. With Sandalphon scheduled to arrive the next morning, however, he worries that you have no advantages - and now that the fourth demon lord has been summoned, you need every friend you can get.

You've consulted with Adavan, who managed to steal the final key to Hecate's seal during the battle against Metatron. You've agreed to free Hecate, after discussing the plan with your inner circle - Donovan, Auriel, Abigail, and Ila.

You then brought together Auriel and Fang, who agreed that it was the time to contact the Black Lady. But when you called, she didn't answer.

Later, you revealed the plan to unseal Hecate. Auriel didn't protest, but insisted she wouldn't help you, still unable to forget the war she fought against the former. You went with Abigail, Ila, and Adavan. A demon lord made a surprise appearance, but you managed to get away without any problems.

You unsealed Hecate, and are now getting her up to speed...

Hecate's face doesn't move, or change, but her aura seems to flicker. You get the sense she's surprised. <You did seem weaker. Not yet to your full strength, once more. Have any of the other lords been restored?>

"No. You're the first."

<So, Erebus. Or, your new self, rather.> She lets her hand fall from Adavan's hood. <What changes have there been?>

"First...my name is Shadow."

I did not predict the long time I would be sealed. I am not myself, either. And we have only a week.>

"It's all we can risk, my lady," Adavan says. "Any longer, and they might have time to summon the fifth."

That said, I'm not fully sure that Erebus had the complete picture of things either. Dude was nothing if not biased.

Shadow mages still exist, after all, and mages needing to replenish mana can do so from from pools of disparate elements without horrible consequences.

It's more likely that even if Shadow is something different from other forms of magic, it's simply that it lies on the far end of a spectrum. Someone who didn't know any better might think that X-rays and visible light were two totally different phenomena, but the reality is that the former merely lies on a side of the electromagnetic spectrum a far way from the latter.

It may well just be a matter of perspective.

And for everyone trying to say we should fight the Demon Lord here, we're right near a mana pool.

We've been told that nothing on record aside from us is capable of surviving contact with a pool of raw mana.

Rather than using Erasure, it could very well be that taking the Demon Lord for a dip could be a more cost-effective way to eradicate him piece by piece in a way he could not regenerate from.

Okay, since everyone is being idiots because Erasure is making them overconfident. The problem isn't being able to beat the thing. The problem is that you'll ruin pretty much the entire attack plan we've set up over several threads by attacking it since it'll set all 3 of the other DL on us at once.

Time is a very powerful consequence with the plot in the foreseeable future.

Here's something that i find odd.

Order is robotic, and emotionless, seeking only to maintain order. Order does not feel boredom or really anything, it will sit for all eternity on it's watch to stomp out chaos.

Chaos is expansion via destruction. Manifesting in the form of demons, they feel no emotions either, or what they do feel is only the urge to expand, kill and self preserve.

Only when you combine them do you get something reasonable and relate able that can have peace with anything that isn't itself.

Seems kinda 40kish, but with a side of "Forge your own peace" instead of "death, destruction, chaos, despair, and indoctrination."

The process is similar to what happened earlier. The Shadow already layered atop Abigail's soul changes...it merges into her sets down roots, becomes part of her.

Her wings flare, and a coating of dark steel plates begins to shift into place over the feathers. They morph over her back, and then up her arms, and around the sides of her head. A panel of purple shadow flickers on her face, giving her a sort of visor through which to see the world.

"...wow," she says. She looks back at her wings, and gives them an experimental flap. "I feel...safer." She turns back, kisses you on the cheek, then hugs you. "Thank you, Shadow. It feels like...I have a part of you with me, now. For real. But next time..." She gives you an eyeball. "Me first."
