The rendezvous point isn't much to look at - A four-way junction, between blood-slicked corridors. The walls ooze vile, suppurating pus, giving the fleshly surface a waxen sheen; The chamber floor, underfoot, sports a thick carpet of violet moss, the strands braiding together, undulating in silent motion, shrinking away from footfalls.

Iron Ogre's squad is the first to arrive; His squad of fifteen reduced to nine, bunched-up and wary, with Titanium Gigant's ironclads bringing up the rear in long, weary strides. Just two of them left; Gigant's sea-green plated charred by gunfire and by acid, his squadmate missing an arm - A Fusion Beamer clamped in the remaining one, sparks still sheeting from the ragged amputation.

Gigant doesn't laugh any more, or speak. Something has torn his throat out, destroyed the voxponder beneath: He stands in brooding silence, radiating anger, his great launcher buckled with deep gashes and gouges, the barrel still smoking with slowly-dissipating heat.

"-They were waiting for us in the tunnels," Iron Ogre growls, and leaves the rest unsaid. His armour is scarred and battered, but he seems to be in better shape - His kinetic mace buzzing in his fists.

Ivory Zoauve's knights are next - Four remain, including Zoauve himself. There are new nicks and gouges in his lance, but he seems inured to his losses: He's gotten off lightly compared to the rest, and he knows it.

"He fell behind," Zoauve says, simply. "-The drop killed him."

There's no anger in his voice, as his new wing binders articulate with a hum of turbines - Being on the ground sits uneasily with Zoauve, his paladins holding themselves aloof, a slight distance away, conversing quietly amongst themselves. They seem to be praying, but you could be mistaken.

Vertigo Trisagion's squad - The Menagerie - has survived mostly intact.

Vertigo Trisagion is not with them.

Not sure if feel worry.

"Plans *change*, Joker," the squad leader - Steppenwolf - says. There's a smirk in his voice: His faceplate vaguely lupine, pushed forward in a canine muzzle. Paired shoulder cannons, in rest position, angle up and above his back, to leave his claws free. A tail of segmented cable sways in his wake.

"Dead man's shoes, see?" He waggles his articulated talons, as if to illustrate his point. "-Guess I'm in charge now."

There's no sign of Agite Striker's squad.

From the more than fifty Players you've taken into the tunnels, just over thirty-three remain. If Agite's squad doesn't make an appearance, you've lost around a full third of your forces.

[ ] "...Are you sure Trisagion's dead?"
[ ] "-We'll have to wait for Agite Striker."
[ ] "We lost that many?"
[ ] "Better than I expected, so far."
[ ] "It'll be enough."

>>
>>30363869

(My apologies: To clarify, the exact number of players at present would be thirty-five - Thirty-six, counting you.)
>>
>>30363938

JokerQuestOp, did you run youma quest yesterday?
>>
>>30363869
"People like Trisagion are hard to kill in such a way that they stay dead. I should know.

Anybody got any idea what the hell is keeping Agite? How long do we give her?"
>>
Check our emblems, see where Agite is.

Also, a couple of questions for you OP.

Can the Void Anchor survive being in a maser bombardment from the Leukocyte?

Also, is it possible to 'prime' the anchor with a voluntary, non-lethal expenditure of essence from ourself or others?
>>
>>30363869

"That guy gave even me the creeps."

"Gather 'round! 'Round I say! We're on the final push from here on out! We'll sit and wait for a limited amount of time for Striker's team to arrive," stare at Silver Cross, "if they even can arrive. If they're not here within the allotted time, we'll move on the assumption they're MIA or at worst, KIA."

"Now, who wants the good news or bad news first?"

"Good news, this is the final run. We'll all be together for this and can loot to our hearts content. I still owe you that drink Ogre."

"Bad news, Phantom Edge has made an appearance. That is all."
>>
>>30363972

(Yes.)

>>30364001

(Yes to the first. The latter is technically possible, but unlikely. However - In this instance - You can use the Void Anchor to seriously disrupt the flow of energy from the active Manifold Tower that powers the Smiler rig; Effectively cutting them off to activate it.)
>>
>>30363869

Based on Striker's last known position, where around is his/her squad in relative to us? Possible to send relief elements?
>>
Perfect.

GENTLEMEN, I HAVE A PLAN. This plan involves hitting the Smilers with a double Anchor/Leukocyte whammy. If Silver Cross can stealthily plant the anchor to disrupt the manifold and activate its essence draining, we can then drop a maser bombardment for massive damage.
>>
>>30364090
So we can sneak in, plug the anchor into the tower and let the tower power the anchor until it turns on and starts destroying the base? Nice.
>>
>>30364209
Isn't Leukocyte for surface bombardment? Save it for when we know we can vaporize Kraken.
>>
>>30364073

> "Bad news, Phantom Edge has made an appearance. That is all."

Don't say this. If they know, we're in deep shit.
>>
>>30364294

Probably won't even penetrate this deep to begin with. We're at the bottom.

>>30364306

We're already in deep shit just with him here. Plus Vertigo's 'dead'.
>>
>>30363869
[X] "...Are you sure Trisagion's dead?"
[X] "We lost that many?"

Check Striker's status.
>>
>>30364294
Iirc, the maser can penetrate solid objects.
>>
>>30364323
That's what I mean. Save the big surprise for later, don't take chances on an uncertain kill.
>>
> [X] "...Are you sure Trisagion's dead?"

"Very dead," Steppenwolf says, with a certain relish. "-The Correctors were eating him when they dragged him underwater. You don't come back from that."

>>30363997

Steppenwolf shrugs. He doesn't seem to care, shambling back to his squad.

> "That guy gave even me the creeps."

"Truer words," Rook says - His faceplate betrays no emotion as he takes in the Players that fill the junction; You're at the center of it, a raised ridge of bone forming a steady platform for you to stand on.

> [X] "We lost that many?"

"-It happens." A sidelong glance from Rook. "You knew this would happen, Joker."

> "-Anybody got any idea what the hell is keeping Agite? How long do we give her?"

The low murmur circulates - You see heads shake, in the universal gesture of incomprehension. The sensor-images on your HUD is decidedly unhelpful - Agite's squad is, apparently, some distance overhead. This close to the great cavern, a strange distortion lingers in the air - It's hard to pinpoint anyone.

"-The longer we wait, the higher the risk of discovery," Geist says; His tone is clipped, curt. "We need to make the push as soon as possible."

"If we don't wait, we're down eight Players," Rook counters. He doesn't sound happy. "Joker - I don't know how many Smilers are down there. But we need every edge we can get."

>>30364073

Silver Cross stiffens, at your pointed words. There's the white-noise babble that comes with so many people gathered in one place; Iron Ogre nods, once, with a metal-on-metal scrape, his arms folded over his chest.

Cheers, at last; Muted, but growing in a swell. A round of staggered but spontaneous applause, before it dies away - You hear the approving clatter of fists against armour plate, as Hellion weapons are waved overhead by certain members of the crowd. It's a kind of desperate bravado, a 'We've come *this* far' devil-may-care fury; The confidence of those who believe that the worst is over.

When the noise dies down, it's Silver Cross who outlines the situation, in quick, blurted statement:

The Smiler base is a vast, bloated thing - A collar clamped around the great shaft of the active Manifold Tower, above a sea of churning black oil. The whole structure is poised on great columns sank into the lake, like spidery struts; Drills descending from above, at irregular intervals, churning as they sink deeper, deeper, drawing long draughts of liquid nightmare up to the surface - Funnelling it to the Cradles, though an intricate network, before they rise.

You're not sure of the technologies involved, or the logistics. But there is a madness to it, an active hum like the low buzzing, buzzing of insects...

The structure is three-tiered, the overlapping strata of platforms connected by ascending walkways, like a stepped pyramid. The first level - And the lowest - bristles with the pitted iron capsules of Cradles, attended to by shuffling figures in sealed hazard suits; The second hosts the complex mechanisms of the drilling rigs, an intricate network of piping and veins and churning pistons - A mechanical nightmare, fuming steam and smog in a thick, hanging miasma.

The third one - The innermost and highest ring - is the heart of the rig, and also the oldest; The Smilers must have built outwards from there, a cage of girders and struts clamped around the rising column of the Manifold Tower, greedily sucking power from within. For a moment, you're forcibly reminded of Argent Prominence's project - The same immense scale, the same immense ambitions, through a glass darkly.

>>30364167

Agite Striker's squad is beginning to move, again - Slowly, this time, but in the right direction. "We'll do it," Cross says - His green eye-lens cycling. He turns his head away, with a crackle of static. "If that's an order, Joker."

(Continued)
>>
>>30364556

Sure, Anon. It's not as if the guy who can turn invisible can't create illusions or anything. That'd just be silly.
>>
>>30364604
As long as Cross leaves his best stealther with us so as to plant the Void Anchor, have him go guide Agite in.
>>
>>30364611
Or, you know, a second in command is carrying out his boss's orders and tellong everyone the boss died.
>>
>>30364604

"You're an experienced hand, Cross. You know we can't spare to send someone back out when we're this close. I put you two together because I made the snap decision that the two of you would work best as professionals. You made your decision and it's paid off in dividends. Now the only thing we can do is hope your squad-mate can pull off what two people should have been doing. I won't stop 'em from punching you in the face now."
>>
>>30364604

The immediate problem with attacking the rig: The approach.

The first, and lowest, level of the Smiler base is suspended kilometers above the churning surface of the black ocean - The passage Silver Cross discovered is a narrow walkway of stone, a tongue of land that slopes downwards into the murk; Almost invisible, in the great shadow cast by the hulking shape of the refinery above.

Ascending from below would be possible, but time-consuming and treacherous.

Silver Cross has located two more possible points of entry - A steep passage, through the tunnels of the Hive, exits far *above* the Smiler base; Far enough that leaping down would be instantly and obviously lethal. Players with the capability to fly, however, could make the near-suicidal descent - *Onto* the base itself.

The second is the path - As Cross said - Kraken arrived by. The circumference of the rig is linked by a metal walkway (Reminiscient of a drawbridge) - to the yawning mouth of a cavern on the far end of the sloping chamber; That, it appears, is the only direct means of access to the base itself. However, he's sensed high-energy reactions, heard the sounds of industry from that path - It is, without doubt, heavily guarded.

The next problem lies with the defenses. Black spikes, like accusing fingers, jut from the great disc of the rig - They seethe with cising sparks, with the crackling spit of ozone and the death of suns. The miasma swirls thickly around them, the upper portions of the rig sporting more of these bristling thorns - Cross has little idea what they are, but he postulates that they might be turrets, or the pylons of a defensive field.

>>30364752

He pauses - Surprised, at first. But then he nods, in something that might be gratitude.

(Continued)
>>
>>30364807

The last problem: Discovery. It's hard to make out exactly where the Smilers are - The nest of raised pipes and struts turning the base into a maze of overlapping shadows. According to Cross, they congregate near the second and third levels, to oversee the function of the facility - What he isn't sure, however, is how many of them there are. Against all odds, you've avoided discovery so far; The Smilers seem oddly passive, unwilling to venture far beyond the great bulk of the base.

On occasion, there's the shuddering spit of energy being discharged; A deep groan, from within the Manifold Tower, gathering force until it becomes a lingering murmur that hangs in the air - The lights dimming, ever-so-slightly, before waves of heat radiate forth from the great, spidery rig.

Some form of activity, of industry, is going on - And it is reaching a fever pitch.

"Squads:

[ ] "...will make the descent from above."
[ ] "...will attack along the main pathway."
[ ] "...will scale the base from below."
[ ] "...will ride the drills up to the second platform, from below."
[ ] "...will disable the base's power, with a Void Anchor."

(Gentlemen: The squads you have available are -

SILVER CROSS
VECTOR GEIST
IRON OGRE (Amaglated with Titanium Gigant's, due to the latter's reduction in numbers.)
STEPPENWOLF
IVORY ZOAUVE (All the members of Ivory Zoauve's squad have the ability to fly.

You can assign yourself to any of the above squads.)
>>
>>30365004

(A quick addendum.)

As the hubbub of discussion swells, Silver Cross cants his head to the side, abruptly - His lenses flashing a deep, poisonous blue.

"Contact has been established with Agite Striker's squad," he blurts, in his quick, clipped tones. Two of Silver Cross's squad has peeled away - Cross stands loosely, like a puppet on strings.

He turns his head, with a slow swivel. "-They report that seven Players are available."

>>30365004
Will planting the anchor /only/ disable the power or will the anchor still emanate an essence draining field?
>>

>>30365092

(The former.)
>>
>>30365004

"Steppenwolf. Illusionists? Invisibility? Anyone in your squad have said abilities?"

"Haze, can your remaining warheads be armed by other Players or are they only armable by you? Possible to set a delay on their arming?"

Is there any noticeable locations or approach points for us to drop our Anchor anywhere?

>>30365063

Go meet the survivors.

"We were taking bets on if you would even make it in, Striker. Giant bowling balls to take that on with one squad. I'm impressed. Cross is right over there if you want to punch 'em in the face."

A bit of Gallows humor to lighten up the shitty situation.
>>
>>30365004
Right, so, obviously Ivory Zoauve should come in from above. I'd say Red Joker should go with them, as well. Silver Cross and Steppenwolf will take the lower passage. Iron Ogre and Vector Geist should ride the drills up.

It's got to be a synchronised strike. Silver Cross will infiltrate and plant the anchor, and then set off some kind of explosion to signal the attack.

Phantom Edge and Kraken should be isolated and then left to the Red Joker, if possible. Destroy all the incubation pods that are seen.

Perhaps Red Joker should prioritise taking control of the Manifold Tower first? I get the feeling that we might just be able to override those spikes and get them on our side.
>>
>>30365004
Silver Cross to disable the power.

Zouave and Joker to descend from above.

EVERYONE ELSE hits the base from the front.

They'll be forced to abandon their inactive defenses and respond to the frontal assault. When that happens Joker can either hit them from above and behind or hex a target and drop a maser bombardment on the largest concentration of enemies.
>>
>>30365145

> Perhaps Red Joker should prioritise taking control of the Manifold Tower first? I get the feeling that we might just be able to override those spikes and get them on our side.

(To clarify: The controls of the Manifold Tower are on the innermost ring. It is likely that you'll be able to override it, but the problem is getting to the controls.)
>>
>>30365122
Wait, clarify: will using the Anchor in this manner still empower the Hollow Sun? It's not going to blow up again, right?
>>
>>30365197

(Yes.)
>>
Going in solo to track down the controls to the Tower would be our best option. Have everyone else set up beforehand. When our cover is blown, we hit the 'Attack' button on the emblem to signal the assault AFTER we've confirmed Kraken and Phantom Edge's position.
>>
>>30365145
Alright, so this plan involves everyone hitting from a different angle at once and hoping to catch them off guard in a blitzkrieg style assault.

>>30365181
And this plan involves launching a meatgrinder assault against the front and having people infiltrating.

I'm in favour of the second. If the defenses on the way to the Manifold Tower are disabled or weakened by a frontal assault, Joker can commandeer this entire base, and hopefully the defenses alongside it.
>>
>>30365181
This plan relies on us being willing and able to use the Leoukcyte down here, of course.
>>
>>30365004
>>30365063

SILVER CROSS
VECTOR GEIST
STEPPENWOLF will all ride the drills. I don't like the sound of a treacherous path and so long as they're killing Smilers, their deaths will not be in vain, as opposed to falling pointlessly to bad luck or lack of skill. And besides, they'll be happier about it, so less chance of breaking.
IRON OGRE ...will attack along the main pathway. Put our
IVORY ZOAUVE ...will make the descent from above. (attach ourselves to this squad)

AGITE STRIKER should reinforce either IRON OGRE/TITANIUM GIGANT or the drill team when they arrive, their discretion.

PALLADIUM ROOK and DISTORTION HAZE should probably go with IRON OGRE, but iunno.
>>
>>30365197
>Wait, clarify: will using the Anchor in this manner still empower the Hollow Sun? It's not going to blow up again, right?

The problem is planting it without it blowing up, which CAN happen if it takes damage.

So....

we still need to clear the area of hostiles.

Also, I think we should try to rescue people from the pods, ~if possible~. If possible - our targets are the smilers.
>>
>>30365269

Using the Leoukocyte down here would be not be using it to its maxiumum advantage and give away a colossal advantage and costly secret.
>>
>>30365256
>>30365269

It also relies heavily on the fact of the BETA Wrangler or Sir Edge not joining the fight. Once the squads get a look at either of them, expect to see a rout. Quick.
>>
Guys, we can't use a maser bombardment here

Its way deep underground, and the tri-stars at base warned us this would be the case.

As sick as the leukocyte is, we need to draw them to the surface to use it.

Additionally, our battle tactics are still in effect - we want to conserve meter and booster, and escalate up.
>>
>>30365303
No no no. It only blew up last because we specifically set it that way. It has two different modes. Using it to drain will involve planting it on the manifold and letting it work. That's all.
>>
>>30365289

>IRON OGRE ...will attack along the main pathway. Put our
>Put our

I have no fucking idea what I was going to say here, goddammit
>>
>>30365324

Yeah let's be honest here, we're sparing meter for Kraken and Phantom Edge
>>
>>30365338
Wasn't it planted to drain? Anchors explode if they're damaged.
>>
>>30365362

Feed Kraken to the damn Nihl. He's a fleshy meatbag so it'll nom him quick. Plus his soul would power another night of hand holding with Cybele. Plus, even if the colony laser did reach down this far, we have hostages in the pods. This very well turn into that rescue mission we were discussing way back when to get off of Fumito's shitlist.
>>
>>30365385
I reread the archives recently. It was planted specifically to explode.
>>
>>30365362
>Yeah let's be honest here, we're sparing meter for Kraken and Phantom Edge

That doesn't

>>30365338
>No no no. It only blew up last because we specifically set it that way. It has two different modes. Using it to drain will involve planting it on the manifold and letting it work. That's all.

Unfortunately, not true - wata wanted to plant it normally, but decided near the front lines was a good place to do it, and it got hit by fire.

I"m referring to this text of the void anchor
>If damaged with leeching Essence, the Void Anchor might explode prematurely - Or simply cease functioning. Due to the size of the Void Anchor, and the large area-of-effect radius, it is relatively difficult to use the Void Anhor in combat.

The anchor is volatile. If it gets caught in combat, it will explode
WHETHER OR NOT IT IS SET TO BE A BOMB.

Important distinction when its the cornerstone of a plan.

I'm not saying don't use it, but we need to defend it while it sets up.
>>
>>30365004
>>30365289

Iron Ogre and Titanium Gigant should attack first, giving the drill team time to get in, and hopefully drawing away or re-orienting guards on the main pathway.

Then the drill teams hit and we descend from above, prioritizing the people attack Ogre and Gigant to relieve them.

And then we all push for the tower.

If and when we get their, we do our business, call a fucking retreat and Distortion Haze uses his Final Solutions.

> "Steppenwolf. Illusionists? Invisibility? Anyone in your squad have said abilities?"

"-There's one," Steppenwolf answers. With a nod, a surreal figure glides forward - The knife-points of his feet a mere inch above the ground, his faceplate a blank visage of brass.

A name: PHOBOS.

The Player's royal-blue coat is spattered with muck and less identifiable substances, but he bows from the waist in a low, courtly gesture - Moving with an exaggerated grace.

"My liege." His voice is mellifluent, to the point that you can't tell if he's being sarcastic or not. "What is your will?"

Phobos, according to his roundabout explanation, has the ability to create phantasms - Grand and elaborate illusions, visible on the optical field. However, he's used to working with a single target at a time, or a handful at most - It takes constant concentration for him to ensure that his illusions are moving, or responding appropriately...And, of course, their intangibility means that any contact immediately reveals the falsehood.

> "Haze, can your remaining warheads be armed by other Players or are they only armable by you? Possible to set a delay on their arming?"

Haze starts, at being addressed directly; He glances down, uneasily, at the armoured sheath of his arm - Badged by biohazard symbols. "...Only by me," he answers, a little lamely - "They're fire-and-forget, Joker. Sorry."

> Is there any noticeable locations or approach points for us to drop our Anchor anywhere?

It's a good question. From the projected range of the Void Anchor, a reasonable proximity to the Manifold Tower is required - The lower path discovered by Silver Cross, the one you first glimpsed the Smiler rig through, comes sufficiently close...But it involves wading waist-deep through churning black oil, for a brief period before the minimum distance is reached.

In which case having Cross set it up via stealth is the perfect way to have it avoid combat.

>>30365458

Agreed. We could also dump a Fortress Mode shroud around it for.... insurance

>>30365458

I think it should be us to plant it, but.....

Really? I remember everyone freaking out about it. Don't think it was meant to blow.

>>30365454

>illusionists

I'll take what I can get right now. We need someone checking those pods for survivors.

Ask him if he can bend light to mimic the effects of an invisiblity spell or create a transparent screen to allow light to pass, but not allow light to return.
>>
>>30365478

This. We can't let our desire for more power overshadow the fact that this place needs to die.

If we can plant, all very well and good.

But the priority is shutting this place down.
>>
>>30365514

I think our priority is to take the facility, and if we can't, then scorched earth it.

Its gonna be tough, but helping take away kraken's army is gonna be

If we manage to *take* the place, we can come back later and change the anchor placement and the like.

I also feel like we could uncorrupt the stage by accessing the manifold tower - do the reverse of the things the smilers did to the holophosukon
>>
>>30365514
The thing is, a successful plant WILL shut this place down. Preventing defenses from making our job harder.
>>
To samefag my point, gotta check those pods for survivors before we set the Anchor up the nom the facility. I've said it a few times in the thread, but those pods may be a ticket off of Fumito's shitlist if we can find survivors. Especially if they were part of Argent's organization.

Zoauve considers this, his crested helm lowered in thought.

"...One each, Joker," he answers - With a grim little shrug. "-It'd hamper our mobility somewhat, but...One Player, each, allows for a reasonable margin of manuverability. Since you're joining us - That's five more Players we can transport to the rig."

You're interrupted, by a brief commotion - Agite Striker's squad entering the junction from an oblique route, one of Silver Cross's squad prowling ahead of them. There's a smattering of relieved laughter; The others know that their chances are better, now.

> "We were taking bets on if you would even make it in, Striker. Giant bowling balls to take that on with one squad. I'm impressed. Cross is right over there if you want to punch 'em in the face."

Agite sniffs, turning her head to the side - "-Of course we made it, Joker. We're professionals; Even without support, we found a way." She has every reason to be proud - She's only lost a single Player from her squad, but perhaps her team's clear competency is to thank for that. There's an even split of at-ranged specialists, and melee combatants - Four and three, specifically, moving with a practised ease.

>>30365510

"That, my liege," Phobos says, evenly - "...is a tall order."

He gestures, with florid grace: "True invisibility is beyond my grasp, but...Perhaps I could momentarily shroud the rig in visions of normality - That nothing untoward is occuring. Of course, as soon as the first shot is fired...The illusion becomes irrelevant."

(Gentlemen: My sincerest apologies for the delay - There are a lot of variables to account for. I'll give about fifteen minutes more before I'll lock in the choices, and proceed from there.)

Too risky. If they survive, great. If not, I am not making this harder than its going to be.
>>
>>30365585

Forget the survivors for now. We are descending into a bloodbath. We can clean-up later: For now, let's focus on WINNING the fight.
>>
>>30365585
>To samefag my point, gotta check those pods for survivors before we set the Anchor up the nom the facility. I've said it a few times in the thread, but those pods may be a ticket off of Fumito's shitlist if we can find survivors. Especially if they were part of Argent's organization.

I'd agree with this.

Could also help if we get manifold tower access.

I think our best bet is....
.... Stealth-plant the void anchor to cut power
This will draw smilers away to Check It Out

We airdrop our Heaviest Hitters onto the rig and gun for the Manifold tower - ourselves included.

Everyone else is......

I don't know. Either a diversion, or a push from another direction, or the cavalry(with the long-range firepower) riding the drills up.

Thoughts?
>>
>>30365593
Have Phobos do the normalcy illusion, regardless of the rest of our assault plan.
>>
>>30365593

What's the Nihl looking like, JQOP?
I recall we did some corrector-draining recently
>>
Simplicity is the name of the game here, folks. Anchor from below, Joker and Zouave from above, everyone else the hammer from in front.

Complicated plans will only blow up in our faces, given how poorly these teams cooperate and US coming in last will allow us to take Kraken or Edge by surprise.
>>
>>30365682

.... could we use the nihl in place of an anchor?

And drink up the essence that powers this place?

A two-pronged base power-draining assault would be nice.
>>
>>30365670
Isn't it cracked? That's why it's not holding a charge.
>>
also, OP, CAN we maser bombard down here effectively?
>>
>>30365593

I'm in love. We have an illusionist. We are taking him with us. No matter what. The sheer chaos a support character can pull for us would boost our already monstrous combat potential.

Haze must stay back no matter what position he is in and save his two remaining warheads for the big fish. If he gets a clear shot WITH NO FRIENDLIES FOR GODSSAKE in the AOE, he is to fire his WMP no matter what. That will severely crimp their style and probably outright 1HKO Kraken.
>>
>>30365585

Still should be a secondary objective.

Anyone yhey drag down here will be hurt and in bad condition. We'll have to protect them and cover for them as well fall back.
>>
>>30365670

(My apologies, the trip fell off when I refreshed. At present, the Nihl Sphere has a faint violent glow, with grey streaks of quartz.)

>>30365707

(You can't be absolutely sure, but - You would say yes, with slightly reduced efficiency.)
>>
>>30365707

Seems like a good way to kill all the pods, damage the base, waste a lot of meter, and not kill high value targets like phantom edge.

Good to have in our toolbox, but I think one we want to save for a Scorched Earth scenario when we're retreating.

Then again, I think the singularity cannon could wreck the place better.

"So, who wants to be big damn heroes and kill a legend?"

>>30365850
Don't be too hasty. It has a plan and objectives, and nothing anyone else has said comes close.
>>
>>30365797

Lets see.

Nova Drake is seriously close ranged, lets take him.

The valkyrie can stay with group b, for fire support, and so can haze.

leave 1-2 heavy hitters with group b for backup, and put some weight to their diversion. Maybe a known Argent-supporter, just to get their attention?

We want the least damaged people with us, and the most survivable, to have a chance vs kraken and phantom edge
>>
>>30365797

Is there a squad guide for the other squads?

I'm not 100% on what all they can do.

>>
>>30365877

>>
>>30365939

You're not thinking clearly enough.
Objectives can be things like
Survive
Minimize losses

Wanting to kill everything is all well and good, BUT doing do blindly and without a plan, and a backup for when it goes to shit, is going to make us fail.

We have allies, we can't do everything outselves, we MUST use them to our full advantage and that means not doing dumb, blind shit like you're spouting.
>>
>>30365795

Phobos bows, again. "-As you say, my liege. I shall do as you ask."

> [X] "Silver Cross will disable the base's power, with a Void Anchor."
> [X] "Ivory Zoauve's squad will make the descent from above - And I'll be joining him."
> [X] "Steppenwolf's squad will ride the drills."
> [X] "Agite Striker's squad will-"

"-We'll support Steppenwolf." Agite has drawn herself up to her full height. "The sooner we get close, the better."

> [X] Iron Ogre and Titanium Gigant will attack by the main entrance.

A low, dark chuckle rasps from Iron Ogre's throat.

"-So we're the distraction, little brother?" It's dark, bleak humour, but he seems to take a certain relish in it, as he levers himself to his feet. "Very well."

His voice lowers - "Do what you have to do, Joker - And leave a few of the bastards for me."

> "So, who wants to be big damn heroes and kill a legend?"

It's almost depressing, how quickly Rook steps forward.

"I'll go," he growls. "-If there's any chance Alura's down there..." His fingers curl into claws. He leaves the rest unsaid; There's no need to finish his sentence.

Rather more hesitantly, Distortion Haze shuffles forward. He doesn't speak: He just nods. The logic is sound - He's the best countermeasure against Kraken. If he can get a single shot off, the result will be devastation. But at the same time, he's desperately afraid - Desperately afraid, and unwilling to let Rook down.

"We're going to suckerpunch them, right in the family jewels. "
"To do that, you need to fight at your best, help your brothers and sisters. Fuck the squad setup, we're all in this together. Keep our wits and your guns about you. Help your allies, hurt the smilers, and if you have to - sell your lives as dearly as possible, because this isn't going to be easy, but by the heavens above its going to feel great when we're done."

>>
"I'm coming with you," Vector Geist crackles. He graces Nova Drake and Mauler Sledge with a nod; His single eye glowing with internal light. "We've been with you this far, Joker - And they'll do their best work up close."

He lowers his voice - "I've sent the others to reinforce Iron Ogre. They're going to need every gun they have."

"Ten of us," Zoauve says - He shakes his head, disbelievingly. "...No-one's done anything like this before."

Rook's eyeslits gleam with emerald illumination - "And that's why it's going to work."

>>30366087

You've never given a speech like this before - Each word harsh with sincerity, each syllable echoing from the fleshly walls. It's brief, to the point; Your voice oddly amplified, even to yourself, a silence descending over the ragtag squads of Players - As you raise one gauntleted fist to them, in a gesture older than the Colosseum of Rome.

And at last, cheers. High, reedy - Rough, rasping - Delirious, with adrenaline and fear and greed and anticipation, the stocks of Hellion weaponry clattering against breastplates, the stomp of armoured feet against the ground. Perhaps they're not cheering for you, but for themselves - The roar that arises is almost frightening in it's intensity, hungry for blood.

They need this. They need to see that you're confident, that you're the paragon *at least* some of them expect you to be: Or maybe they don't even hear your words, and just take the excuse to shout out the raw emotions that are never far away, even in Player armour.

Palladium Rook seems to wince, audibly, at your words - He exhales, a sharp *chuff* of relief when he sees it's well-received. When he catches you looking, he merely shrugs.

It's time.

Beneath you, the Smiler base looms.

(I assumed that was the plan.)

>>30366281

It's a giant, solid black mass - Like cancer, like a tumour, vapour fuming upwards in clouds of black exhaust and white steam. It is a dense and complex architecture of pipes and towers, vents and arches, blocks and pylons; Clamped to the side of the Manifold Tower like a blood-sucking parasite.

The scale of the superstructure beneath is huge. You can only imagine the other squads, moving into position - Less than pinpricks, against the black sea sea beneath.

Ivory Zoauve's paladins are in position; They resemble carved angels, or gargoyles of white marble - Thruster-wings furled, long lances in hand, the long, suicidal plunge before you. On occasion, one shifts in plates, with a low whirr of articulating armour - Each one with their would-be passenger directly ahead of them.

"-Jesus." Rook mutters. He's looking down - "...What the hell are we doing here?"

Not too far away, Zoauve himself stands behind Haze: He's been informed, in no uncertain terms, how volatile Haze's powers are. How important he is, and the likelihood of a screaming, blinding death if he's hit.

To his credit, he didn't hesitate.

Much.

Everything's waiting on Silver Cross, now. Seconds crawl by, with aching slowness, as you sense the faint flicker of his squad's icon from below, gathered around the very base of the Manifold Tower - They've been there for minutes, but it feels like hours. It's all a matter of coordination, as the rhythmic drone of the drills descending echo in the cavern - The strike has to be simultaneously, to maximize your main advantage: The element of surprise.

Above him, Iron Ogre's squad has gathered in tunnels - Milling around, ready for the frontal assault. It reminds you of a muscle tensing before the blow; Ready to strike, in a single, swift, terrible motion.

Just to be clear - we're planting it to siphon power, not blow it up, right? a la these two posts:

IE siphon power to depower the base. That word detonation you used makes me think the plans changed when they shouldn't have.

"Do you hate the Smilers? Hate what they represent, or what they've done to you, or to someone you know? Hate them for putting a base here, where just reaching their front gate saw your people dead? I don't think so. I don't feel it in you, yet.

"Let me give you a reason to hate them: The Smilers intend to destroy the Shroud. You think what you've seen down here is bad? Imagine the Hive spreading into your home as Correctors tear your friends torn limb from limb. Your armor keeps you safe during the initial rush, but there's no real world to go back to. Your world is red, an eternal battle for survival. Mental degradation will take most Players within a year, the tiny fraction immune to it watch as their comrades go feral.

"Argent Prominence can turn away until he starts spinning, but that's the choice we have. Fight them here, or wait until they break into the other side.

"You are not heroes. You are not doing what must be done. But you're doing what should be. It's the Smilers or everything else. So keep your weapons steady and your wits about you, keep each other *alive* while killing them *dead*.

"Drinks are on me when we get back."

Something like that I guess? Oh well, too late.

"It's not that." Rook sounds a little hoarse. "It's funny, but - All I can think about, right now..."

His gaze turns inwards, contemplative. "-is how much I miss my old crew.

Rook draws a slow breath. "-They gave you that feeling...If you got your buddies with you, you're invincible. It's stupid, really; But it sure is a great feeling." He exhales, a shuddering sound. "I wish they were here, now. I...shouldn't have been the only one to make it out."

>>30366553

"You're a strange guy, Joker. Anyone ever tell you that? You care about the strangest things - You look out for the strangest people. And then you tell them that things can always get worse."

Rook's gaze firms, as he steels himself with a visible effort of will.

He nods, wordlessly.

The signal comes. It's a pulse, a hum that flickers threads of code across your vision - So sudden, you may have imagined it. But then - A breathless moment later, Silver Cross pulses his symbol again.

The Void Anchor is in position.

Agite Striker's squad and Steppenwolf's begins to ascend, rapidly - The great drill-platforms rising, rising, towards the rig above. Tension hums in the air, as Iron Ogre's mob gathers itself, the first elements moving towards through the tunnels, towards the area of attack.

>Negative to this, but agreeing with this:

Why?

It doesn't make sense to start the attack with part of our force still stuck on the rigs.

Tactics! tactics!
>>
>>30366936

Because while they ascend, the guards will be pulled away to deal with the frontal assault. So when they get to the top, they can crash through a weakened perimeter and be in an advantageous position to shank the enemy focusing on the frontal attack.

There are a LOT of Smilers in the base, and they can cover all entrances (except, I guess the implication was, the treacherous ascent from below). By getting them to focus their defense on the frontal assault, we weaken them for the drill team and us, which will let these two teams hit harder and with surprise, throwing the enemy into disarray.

So yeah.

But then there is no time for anything else.

> [X] Wait for the drill-platforms to reach the rig.

You wait, a breathless instant longer - As the two squads ascend the last few meters, beginning to fanning out, tiny pinpoints of light against a field of black...

And then it happens. A great, fluctuating dome arises; A swirling hemisphere of phantasmal radiance, encircling the top half of the rig in a shimmering halo - Phobos's work. It's a matter of moments, the seconds ticking away, as you reach up-

>>30366813

> [X] Signal the Void Anchor.

-And signal the Void Anchor.

For the space of half a heartbeat, nothing: But then, a flare of light, brilliantly blue, erupts from the side of the Manifold Tower. It's a great spike, a star going nova, a fitful lightning ripples up and down the great construct - The telltale lights studding the column winking out, the low moaning of grand mechanisms shutting down echoing hollowly from the stone walls.

It's something you can *feel*, as the corona of illumination ascends in a palpable wave - Where it passes, the noises of industry cease, alien technology suddenly and fatally stilled; When the light returns, it comes in the lurid scarlet blood-red of emergency lighting, angry and urgent, a sign that something is very, *very* wrong...

-As the crackling, cising spit of the charged spikes die away to sullen flickers, muted in a single, terrible, breathless instant.

You key your Emblem, a second time; Signalling the attack.

Iron Ogre's squad is already moving. The initial organization has given way to an all-out rush - Speed is everything. And they know - They can *see* - that the base's defenses have been downed.

You will never know who fired the first shot, but it's a well-placed one: A Fusion Beamer, fired *just so*, a searing spear of raw energy lancing across the narrow distance - When it strikes, it erupts into a brilliant flash of gouting crimson, a savage-fireflash. Gunfire crackles, a ferocious blizzard of fire - Maser Emitters and Ion Blasters and Pulse Carbines riddling the air, completely disproportionate to the squad making the frontal assault: Lucky, or accurate, shots hit the endless rows of Cradles.

Whatever the black oil is, it burns *really well*.

At least a dozen Revolve Bazookas fire, the rockets hurtling through the narrow distance before impact - One actually blows out a section of the rig, chunks of metalwork and pieces of railing raining down the base's circumference.

There's also the whole ACTS AS AN EXTRACTOR for the the Hollow Sun.

There's no reason to blow it prematurely while it can soak up power. We can blow it later, when this all inevitably goes to shit. Also, it's not like a On the off chance that it DOESN'T go to shit, we can recover it.

Besides, to blow it now, we'd have to damage it, giving us away. You can only set it as a bomb or an extractor. It can be blown as a bomb while extracting, but only if it takes damage.

The first moments of the attack are completely without resistance - The shambling shapes in beige hazard-suits are unarmed, slow to respond; They turn just in time to be hit by the fusillade. When struck, they swell slightly, in ugly, lumpen ways that evoke malformation and defect, beginning to writhe, stirred by weird movements from within...Before the hoods slip back, black oil bleeding from the neck holes, bursting into flames as the empty, slack suits sink softly to the ground.

The effect is unusual, even distressing, but not immediately harmful.

The Smilers are gathered on the second and third tier of the rig - But their response is slowed by the sudden deployment of Agite Striker's and Steppenwolf's squads, even as the drills grind to a stop below. Sheer, dysfunctioning shock slows them; While the two squads are outnumbered, they're well-armed. More, they have a chance to put their superior firepower to use.

Point-blank.

The first enemy Player to die is Nephite Castigator - He's hit over three dozen times in the space of five seconds, by an array of handheld and man-portable Hellion weaponry. Steppenwolf claims the first kill with his shoulder cannons, but the point is moot: The force of the impacts are so great, Castigator's armoured form is already dearticulated.

The real attack, however, comes from above.

Yes, its harvesting, and yes, its working, but the thing about resource extraction is Placement Matters.

I think he's saying the void anchor would get better yield if it was placed so that the ENTIRE stage and industrial capacity was feeding into it directly, instead of a portion of it.

We placed it where we did to ensure that their defenses wouldn't activate. We haven't flipped the switch that would make its location permanent, and we're not mining the area yet.

The plan is to move it right into the center and then maximize its draining capabilities, after we've eliminated the Players present and hacked the Tower.

This is the first moment of the assault - Overwhelming, unstoppable, from every direction at once. Flames boil skywards as gunfire from Iron Ogre's alloyed squads sow destruction amongst the Cradles: Iron Ogre has very little idea what they contain. He does not particularly care, either, only that they are in the way.

His heavy weapons target the black spikes of the defenses - This is actually a redundant gesture, because the Void Anchor's disruption is a long-lived one. In one stroke, Silver Cross's squad has effectively neutered the automatic sentinels bordering the circumference of the refinery.

Still, Iron Ogre is thorough.

**********************

You fall.

Straight down. The wind whips past you, as you descend: The force of gravity dragging you down, as your Tempest Scrander roars to life. Red particles fume, as you accelerate sharply into the air - Flames roar in the wake of Ivory Zoauve's squad, powerful vector thrusters screaming, as they streak towards their targets like fireflies, like eagles, like furious angels.

There is no incoming fire, not at first. Phobos's grand illusion prevents the first line of Smilers from noting the assault from above - They're aware that something is *wrong*, the chorus of explosions, the searing blasts of point-blank gunfire ample notice - but the moment of totality is all-consuming.

That's where the uncertainty/miscommunication lies though. A) we're not certain of that and b) that was the point. We're only catching energy running through the tower, not say, the other connections the fields may be running into that don't go through the tower.

Either way, we're stealing part of the power, we don't actually own the stage

It doesn't last long. With cobalt fire streaming from beneath his brass mask, dripping from his long talons, Phobos is an immediate and obvious target as St. Elmo's fire sears along his form. An axe-wielding Player smashes his way past Carbide Chimera, and hacks him cleanly in half.

By then, it's too late.

Beneath you, the phantasmal dome clears; Revealing a seething morass of absolute chaos. Steppenwolf's and Agite Striker's squad have formed a half-circle, around the fused shape of the refinery's drill - The black metal platform locked in place, smoking from cursory impacts. They're firing outwards, furiously; Bloody streamers twisting from Agite Striker's limbs, ensnaring the Smilers trying to make a counter-charge, holding them at bay long enough to blast them aside with gunfire...

They're outnumbered. The Smilers on the platform - A ragged dozen of them - have been absolutely shredded: There was absolutely no warning before the two squads began to fire. But you can see dark shapes swarming up the gantries, with bleached-skull grins; Silencers, sprinting to the attack, running in a fluid mass, their blazing swords scorching through the swirling miasma...And behind them, the reinforcements, an eclectic mass of armour and carapace and steel, moving up behind them.

The world blurs past, as you hit the booster - Palladium Rook's shouting something, but you can't hear him. No-one can. More Smilers are streaming up the steps, onto raised gantries and secondary walkways overlooking the great platform where Agite Striker and Steppenwolf are pinned down; You can hear the thrum-thrum of weapons going live, as the ground surges up to meet you.

Even in that first, frenzied instant, you see that the fighting is largely centred around the second tier of the rig: The third tier is still concealed beneath a maze of machinery, the flickering illumination, the charged, greasy feel in the air, lingering.

Designate the sidewalkways as targets and fire twp trisk missiles at each, target structural points. Collapse them all at the same time.

Foe the silencers, fire off a chain mine. Fuck them up, we cannot afford for them to get into close combat range with the squads, they're ranged DPS.

Ask rake them with vulcan fire and the arc gun at the same time.

I say nay to carnifex.

We need to save booster for the codebursts against kraken. Only we can counter his.
>>
>>30367636
>Do we want to deploy drones? This is ONE circumstance where they might do some good - since there's a lot of shit going on they're going to be targeted less.
Actually, that's a clever idea.
Get the drones out, boost them via Carnifex for one round (While we get our guns blazing. Don't forget to keep distance from the team) while they destroy the walkways and then call them back.
>>
>>30367657

All 5 interceptors out, and use the beams to cut the other walkways, hands-free.

Otherwise, pretty much what you posted with a change in targeting priority
>>
>>30367753
That's correct. I want to seize the Tower and kill the Silencers with a virus attack.

Besides, floating in mid-air while on fire is just asking for someone with a sniper rifle to blow your head off. Doesn't matter if you've got bullet time if someone's shooting things at you at (a fraction of) lightspeed, and we've seen some players with that capability.

Right, so target the walkways seems popular. The point about the missiles being frag is also a good one, so don't use those. Tau Gun into the gantries. We need 75% meter.

Both are solved in this situation: They're not gonna get shot over players, and the free cobalt boosters makes their damage not suck.

You scythe over the churning morass in a burning arc - You release Palladium Rook, like a bomb, and he descends with his Tachyon sword already drawn; He slams down with bruising force next to Phobos's killer, and promptly hacks his blade through an armoured leg. As the Smiler goes down, Palladium Rook swarms over him, stabbing furiously - He punches through his target's helmet, severs his axe-hand, hacks his blade into his torso.

Zoauve releases Haze, who lands with rather less grace; Haze's form crashes into the back of Steppenwolf's squad, jarring a Player lining up a Revolve Bazooka round - The shell goes wide, erupting over the churning waters of the black ocean in a sizzling fireball.

You have your Sinistral up - The first shots *tang* off your buckler-sized field, scratching a gouge against your armour. The hasty surge of return gunfire is mostly aimed in your direction, as you swoop down from the dark like a thing out of nightmare.

It's an instinctive response. The Smilers see you coming, and they know what that means.

They know you've come to kill them all.

Your Interceptors detach, from your wing binders, from your shoulders, beginning to orbit you in looping arcs, as the interlocking bones of the Carnifex's silver grotesk snaps shut over your helmet-

And you make all their worst nightmares come true.

The world slows. Actinic blue light flares, the cold sphere of the Cobalt Booster stinging with strength: Your armour erupts with bruising force, jettisoned in every direction at once, fragmenting to reveal interlocking secondary plate and the sapphire glow of supercharged myomer musculature.

Then the fire comes, engulfing you - A scorching nimbus of roaring flame, from everywhere and nowhere at once, enveloping you in a blazing halo. Great pinions of swirling fire unfold in a burning mantle, a ravening cloak of flame; Your optic sensors flaring with hellish illumination as the Red Joker's legacy is unleashed.

And then-

And then you're killing them.

Your Interceptors retch beams of scorching illumination, lances of azure fire - The Nova Cannon sketches itself into existence, the charging coils humming as you snap it in line with the dark morass of Silencers swarming up the central walkway...

The scorching arc of the tracer beam ignites the first leering skull-faced figure: It bursts into flame, burning from head-to-toe - Only to be fall, to be crushed underfoot, as you wrench both triggers-

The walkway explodes, in an expanding antimatter detonation. Part of the rig actually sags downwards, with a groan of sundering metal; Shot through, the railing twist out of alignment, the gaping hole suddenly and fatally undermining the superstructure - Silencers spill over the edge, tumbling down, down towards the black ocean beneath...

-They leap. Not the way a man leaps, to clear distance - But the way a beast leaps, to bring down prey. Some make it, landing with glowing eyeslits and bristling red thorns of light, with skull-grins forced into soulless, eternal grins; Others don't, and plummet to their doom.

Ohyeah, and....

When we spot kraken/kraken spots us, and we see him start using a codeburst: Barrier time/cybele purge.
>>
VOLKITE CASTER, levelling his lightning gun, is your first kill: Your Interceptors slice into him from three directions at once, taking his hand off at the wrist, setting him aflame, shearing his head from his neck. Smoke billows from the ragged neck-stump as he topples, already death - They chase him, lancing him again and again, until his headless torso explodes in a fireball, coils of Essence twisting upwards, infusing you with emerald radiance.

A hasty blast from a plasma cannon streaks across the distance - You wrench aside, and respond with a full fusillade of missiles. Icons dance and flit over your HUD, as you isolate potential targets, taking aim at movement, heat signatures, Essence tracks; You launch eight, and then another eight, the rockets corkscrewing and twisting through the air before they erupt in holocausts of blue flame.

The destruction is indiscriminate and total. Metal gantries twist apart, melting like wax - You hear bubbling screams, as Smilers stagger out of the inferno, to be cut down by opportunistic shots, or to plunge into the black sea below. Already mantled in fire, tongues of flame dance and leap across the surface, rilling with crackling glee.

Booster cost is the same as meter cost. Bits cost 2%. So, uh, not really. its 10% for a full flight of bits.

Carnifex just consolidates ALL our booster use, from everything we do - body, weapon, artifacts, bits - into a flat 20%.

when you think about the cost to boost just the bits alone(10%), its halfway to a carnifex.(20%)
>>

Question for JQOP: There's an edge case with the sinistral in this circumstance i'm wondering about.
If both charging elements are in use by other weapons, or its not linked, then its Sinistral L1.
But if its boosted, its L3.

So.... What happens if an L1 sinistral gets boosted, but not element-linked? End resultt of l2?

"PUSH THEM BACK! KILL THEM ALL!"

Vector Geist's Pulse Carbines drum out constant streamers of fire - He has his charged machete his other hand, and he waves the two embattled squads forward before the sickening auras of the Silencers cut off all words. A stunning barrage of Hellion weaponry greets the stragglers - Even with their fluid speed, even with the searing brands of their blades, in ones or in twos, the Silencers are entirely overwhelmed. Mangled bodies burst apart like overripe fruit, or crash into the decks on all sides; The noise returns, louder than ever, somehow triumphant as-

"-What the fuck is that?" You hear Tempest Glaive shout - He's pointing away from the melee, as the ragged remains of the Silencers are pitched to their doom.

-You hear the shriek of vector-thrust engines. It's a flying host, sweeping around the sides of the rig; You hear cackling laughter, high-pitched and entirely mad. It's a pitch-black damnation cloud, with vague humanoid shapes carried on wings - Chiropteran, ragged, leathery - more like a vulture than a proud bird of prey - led by demon-horned Smilers with jump packs, with flying platforms that bank and accelerate towards the inevitable clash, dirty black smoke spewing behind them-

Your targeting sensors take in their names - CORVUS REAPER. ASHEN GLAIVE. SCARLET CARNATOR. EBON MAW. IDOLO.

And, from the bat-winged flock that accompanies them, somewhere far worse than the roar of their engines -

SCOURGE.

You hear the screeching raptor-cries, as a blizzard of shrike blades fill the air - The filthy-taloned shape at the very forefront giving vent to malicious, buzzing words.

-Words in Bardiel's voice.

"REMEMBER ME, JOKER?"

The sound is lost amid a chorus of caws and shrieks, as the aerial reavers begin to fire. Shrike blades fall in a horizontal rain - Hover-mounted autocannons crank up. Steppenwolf is hit once, hit again, as he fights to bring his shoulder cannons to bear: One explodes in a dirty, gouting fireball as he reels back, as metal debris comes tearing down through the canopy spread in a swirl of sparks.

"Regroup - REGROUP!"

Corvus Reaper has a great axe, the other end concluding in the cruel sweep of a scything blade; But it's the twin charge weapons mounted on his hovercycle that does the most damage. Shots swirl out of the miasma - One of Agite Striker's squad, Inferno Heart, is hit in the lower back, and fractures messily when her reactor explodes.

Behind you, you hear racing footsteps - Iron Ogre's squad, bounding up to the second tier of platforms. Gigant is hefting his namesake launcher; Mute, voiceless, he braces himself and lets rips, bright spears of energy retching towards the oncoming mass, blasting Scourges apart. A flying Smiler is hit head-on, and his jump pack belches smoke as he plunges down, down - He hits the side of the rig, and explodes in a vicious blast that shakes the ground underfoot.

"There's *lot* of them," you hear Rook growl - The killing edge of his Tachyon sword burning, as he begins to lance Ion blasts in the damnation cloud's direction. Others follow, but they fall short; Only heavy weapons have the reach, but the distance narrows by the second. "Is that-"

Your Triskelion launchers cycle, venting smoke. You're lit up like a human torch, a burning aegis - A flurry of black wings churning the miasma, with sound of a coming storm. Recalled, your Interceptors spiral around you in a halo of steel and smoldering energies, the fiery motes of Essence - Gleaned from your many kills - banking the flames higher.

Smilers shriek down from the third tier. Their jump packs generate rasping, heat-shimmered forks of blue flame: They come individually or in small packs. In truth, it's impossible to tell if they're Player, or Corrector, of some maniac amalgam between the two. The chaos of all-out war steals all sense from it.

Those that can't fly simply leap down, or race along the narrow pathways overhead - Half of the second tier is completely engulfed in flame, or facing imminent destruction. Behind you, the Cradles are burning, oozing black fluid that sears into new, leaping tongues of flame with gasoline's swiftness: The roar of a distant explosion rocks the rig, gouting new fire into the great cavern.

It's a three-pronged attack, a counterpush. They're attacking from above, and from either side - Some of them may be chanting. Already, ranging shots - Lancing beams of plasma and energy - streak down from above, as they amass above you, for the descending clash to come. CALCITE ARROW, lightless crystals sprouting from his pauldrons, bow clenched in one hand as he waves his Smilers into loose order - MAGMA BLADE, a smoking, burning thing lit from within by sullen flame, in the midst of his pack...

That's even more handy, but for the most part, we're okay with managing it. Worth it for a little upgrade though at some point.

>frame upgrade

That looks to be a general rank up in armor, health, strength, speed, the entire she-bang.
>>
>>30368760
>That's handy, but we only have two hands unless they're torso mounted.

Actually, it means we can do things like use a sinistral l2 and two vulcans, or do things like use....

Oh holy shit.

We can twogun Taugun AND something else.
>>
>>30368699
After Accelerator, those are the best choices:
- Cobalt Booster
- Charging Elements
- Shroud/Scrander/Carnifex Upgrade
- Vulcan upgrade
- Tier 2.5

Now there's a can of worms I never want to open again.

>>30368760
That last one is the category header. So it's a Cobalt Booster upgrade or a charging element upgrade, listed under the category of "frame upgrades".
>>
>>30368760

Yeah, the charging elements for shoulder-mounted crap would be awesome, but we decided on meter a long time ago, because the damn thing never charges as fast as we want.
>>
>>30368770

What, like, Tau+Fusions? Two special weapons at once?

that's....

maybe actually faster meter gain than meter accelerator

We're most definitely going to run head first into kraken.

We should do cobalt booster next time though. If we have a faster recharge raye, we can hurl so many codeburst.
>>
So it's either attunement or Meter...
How many guys can we expect to kill during the rest of this session?
>>
>>30368773

welcome back! hope your night was nice.

Are the cobalt booster/charging elements mutually exclusive?
>>
>>30368786
Or Sinistral + dual vulcans.
Or Maybe Sinistral + Vulcan + Tau, depending on how many elements we get.
>>
>>30368804
>Are the cobalt booster/charging elements mutually exclusive?
Do you really need to ask?
All of those are atomic choices. They are sub-selects of what would have been collective upgrades before we hit the level cap.
So yes, one doesn't affect the other. Which means that they aren't exclusive.
>>
>>30368786
More like constant Sinistral 2, the Tau Gun and another primary weapon if we get two.

>>30368793
"Many lots". Then there's the escape segment, too. Unless we blow the top off the Hive. Again.

>>30368804
For this? Yeah, you get one choice from one category per level.

All right, final destination. Meter or limiter? Meter will help with survivability and awesomeness during this encounter. Limiter will get us more levels, and possibly one more here.
>>
>>30368832
>All right, final destination. Meter or limiter? Meter will help with survivability and awesomeness during this encounter. Limiter will get us more levels, and possibly one more here.
I vote for limiter, even if I'm eager to see more meter.
Definitely meter for next.
>>
>>30368738
>A significant majority seems to favour Meter Accelerator at present, however.)
>(In this instance, to increase the capacity/efficiency of the Cobalt Booster, or to give yourself additional charging elements.

My vote's for this.

Lets do it!

Though, hrmn.

In this fight, keeping the cobalt booster topped off is going to be one of the deciding things that wins us this.
>>

Still going with Meter. We still haft to feed the hungry sphere maglocked to our fist.

Why don't we find the place where the Smilers make their violet crystals? Feed them all to the sphere.

Actually fuck, the spheres are made of corrupt essence. What if going through the sphere is what processes the energy to that state?

Regardless, that should wait until after we track down Mio/Megaera/Hellebore.
>>
>>30368845

We can stick the other stuff on the list of what to get next, but seriously, we have been talking about and needing meter since forever.

is my choice.

(You now begin each battle with 15% Meter. You now gain 20% extra Meter per attack.)

Neon light gathers. It spiders across your form, in intricate glyphs: Sinking down into you, filtering through your crimson armour in a cool rush. The radiance jags across you, as your wing binders fan out with the hiss of articulating components - Circuit-pattern traceries spidering down your limbs, your cuirass, superconductor filaments feeding power through your form.

The charging elements of your gauntlets glow cherry-red with death-heat, venting in smoking, twisting clouds of vapour.

On all sides, Smilers converge. They pour down through the interlocking ribs and spans of the burning rig like a fluid, like something dark and glossy, like blood. Something that runs and drips, swells and flows, finding in every angle, every strut, every girder, the quickest unbroken route by which to reach the coming clash.

Bat-winged things scissor their claws and taunt you with the fractured voice of a dead man.

You are the Red Joker.

You are Death, cloaked in blue flame.

*Let them come.*

JOKER QUEST

also, holy shit this session. Thanks a million for running it.

>>
>>30368926

(Gentlemen: My sincerest apologies, but it is extremely late on my end. I'm sorry for the relative length of the previous update, but - As you can tell - mass combat is an *extremely* cluttered thing. I'm still working out the kinks in the system, myself.

I would love to continue, but I'm entirely exhausted. This looks like a natural breakpoint before the next wave of the attack arrives - You've been a wonderful audience, to accompany me this late.

Good night and god bless: I hope to see you again soon.)
>>
>>30368904
Oh, I'm all for meter. Limiter is a really good idea though, and I do think that getting it here and now would serve us quite well. But we've put off meter for so long...

>>30368926
Nice ending. If I have any complaints, it's that we're Death instead of Slaughter. Take peace from mankind, etc.

>You now gain 20% extra Meter per attack.)

..... is that a flat increase of 20% per hit, or over the base income?

>>30368940
But anon, that comparis on only works if we have a second group of enemies we could be shooting instead.
>>
>>30368926

Jesus christ they're all fucked.
>>
>>30368938

(Not yet.)

>>30368956

(To clarify, it's over the base income - My apologies, I'm aware that it's a little unclear, given that Meter is in percentage.

If you would usually gain 10% Meter from an attack, you'll now gain 12%.)
>>
>>30368943
I really enjoyed the mid-combat upgrade.
It makes everything even more frantic and crazy.
>>
>>30368926
This is either gonna be really fucking awesome or really, really painful.
>>
>>30368926

OP, two questions.

Where are Kraken and Phantom Edge? Also, are you going to run more Youma Quest/Knight Quest?
>>
>>30368943
>Good night and god bless: I hope to see you again soon.)

As the anon who wrote that battleplan, yeah man, i'm gonna be staying up all night next time to make sure we live through this.

That being said, have you considered pre-rolling dice?

You can manipulate random.org in such a way that it will output enough numbers you can copy-paste it to a text editor to fill one page of truly randomly generated dice.

That way, instead of rolling for all actions, you can cross off #'s like you're reading it. 'ie, i need to roll 10d10 here, mark off ten as used'.

http://www.random.org/integers/?num=649&min=1&max=6&col=11&base=10&format=html&rnd=new

I believe its 649 #'s in 11 columns in the integer gen here - i'm not sure what dice you use for JQOP but it should be handy.
http://www.random.org/integers/
>>
>>30368983
Either way, we have enough targets to replenish our meter with every shot.

>>30368974
Now I wonder how the original meter upgrades modified our meter income in comparison to this one.
I do know that one made special weapons capable of meter gain.

And, guys, could it be that Meter Booster works slightly differently than we expected?
It seems like the post-transition boost is part of Accelerator. What if the booster was the thing for special effects?
>>
>>30369000

(While I can't answer the former, I can say that I'm thinking about the latter. This week is arguably the last block of free time I'll have, before term reopens.)
>>
>>30368974

Awe. Still, it's more, which we wanted and we'll get to our goals faster.

Its not a question of ego.

I argued for, and succeeded in persuading, using the carnifex when people were saying no, using drones when people said they sucked, consolidated everyone's ideas into one cohesive plan AFTER getting our benevolent overlord to do a backsies.

Its not a question of ego. Its that this feels REWARDING, like we earned that levelup and i helped make it possible.

>>

>Hmm. 20%... Not too bad but now I'm wondering if using more upgrades on that is justifiable.
This means that we can get more interesting upgrades.
I vote for charging elements. We can then run at least Tau + double vulcan or Vulcans + sinistral.
It multiplies our passive strength.
>>
>>30369282
Passive survivability. And I vote for the limiter, to grab an extra three or four levels before the endgame.
>>
>>30369295
*Now* you vote for limiter.
I would have agreed for the first upgrade.
But now you are just increasing opportunity costs.

Now heres something crazy.

Considering that we already activated the Arsenal Beacon's unlimited mode, why dont we drop more heavy weapons for them to use that they can drop as the swarm continues to close?

To just rake them with more combined firepower before they get too close.
>>
>>30369438
The beacon was activated during our last login.
>>
>>30369544

Ah, point. Forgot about that.
>>
>>30369602
Test
>>
>>30368926

I just realized that we are pretty goddamn powerful now. I mean, jeez. I think we might have been able to do substantial damage to the base ourselves, if we'd gone alone.
>>
>>30370204
Yeah, this episode really enhanced that feeling.
Maybe partially due to that one-shot that OP did yesterday.
>>
>>30370204

Not really. We'd have been overwhelmed and torn apart.
>>
>>30370204

Probably only the first wave.

More and we'd slowly be grinded down before kraken comes to finish Joker off.
>>
>>30370311
Our repair ability is now instant.
>>
>>30370348

And our ability to restore booster is not.

We'll be grinded down eventually.
>>
>>30370366
We only need meter to regenerate.
>>
>>30370410

We also need meter to fight and the more we use to heal since we don't have booster, the less we have to inflict damage and gain more meter.

It's a downward spiral, slowly as we finish using our consumables and our combat ability continues to be further diminished.
>>
>>30370348

It's not instant. It can still be disrupted, if someone hits us hard enough. Haven't met that guy yet, though.
>>
>>30370478
>>30370489
So, basically, we transform the fight into a game of modern military shooter, except that we've got as much ordinance and armor as Doomguy, the Jet Force Gemini characters and Serious Sam combined and have the movement options and agility of Tribes, Titanfall, Planetside, Quake and FEAR, as well as sensory equipment that makes the scanners in DUST 514 look tame and the ability to multitask like a Mechwarrior player with multiple aimbots.

Also, I just realized that our initial Scrander was basically one of the abilities in Super Mario Sunshine.
>>
>>30370573

And our opponents do not play by those rules.

Say we assaulted this base ourselves, we run into the defences that we disabled and most definitely destroy them and in the process, raise the alarm on the Red Jokers assault.

The silencers won't be caught unaware and will have likely reached the shore. Out of seven, we could only down about 3, what more this group?

The moment they engage us in close combat, they deny Red Jokers ability to engage the other smilers using our preferred ranged weaponry as we'll be too busy trying to survive the fight against multiple close combat monsters.

Of course we can avoid them by flying in the air like what we do now. That leaves us open to mass fire tactics from the smilers but even that shouldn't be a problem.

No the main problem is the scourge swarm and I see have any idea how to combat that thing short of a haze missile or a maser blast from SIDE-3.

I expect just emptying all our weapons into it will do squat even if it does rip large holes in its formation and with the amount of damage it appears to be able to put out, I don't see Red Joker being about to tank that for any long stretch of time.
>>
>>30370683
Man, that haze missile is really useful. Would be nice if we or an ally got more of those.

We' might have to warn the groups that are not with us about the missile. And maybe give the Solaris array toa heavily damaged player. That way, Vermillion Ray can fight, ant the heavily damaged Player will be held back.

Maybe we need to do the same with all heavily damaged Players.
>>
>>30371089

The system is kind of balanced. Haze has an incredibly deadly weapon, but he only gets three shots. And he doesn't get anything out of it.

God must hate him and love him in equal measure.
>>
>>30371407
I wonder if he gained additional functionality by now.
