Your name is Volkov Marulovich, and you are a strapping young man of 18. You have been under the tutelage of your master for 4 years now. You are a bone mage in training and have specialized in the art of crafting and using artifacts.

You currently have:

-2 iron bonecharge pistols

-1 steel pulse dagger

-1 small spell focus
>>
You awake to the rays of early of morning shining onto your face. While your master somehow has the room in her bag to carry a tent around, you do not have the luxury of that much bag space. Fortunately, jobs typically pay out well enough that the two of you can afford proper lodging and still profit.

This only applies when there's a place to get said proper lodging, however.
You get dressed and geared up, sliding the belts with your pistols over your hips and fitting your dagger against your leg, hidden from sight by your boots and pants. It takes minutes to clear up the camp and begin the trek back towards the coast. As you walk you take stock of your ammunition. You have four marrow pellets and eleven lead balls remaining, which strikes you as odd as you prefer to take an even count of ammunition on missions. After walking most of the day in silence you have come upon a medium sized city sitting on a large river, tall smoke stacks belching away into the late day sky.

“Alright, find an inn here and stay here for the night, I'm going to continue on to the port at the coast and try to book passage for us back to Xel'Karth. Meet me at the docks tomorrow at the port.”

The two of you part ways, your master making way towards the coast and you into the city. It's short work to find an inn that has a reasonable rate, although it's a bit further off the main roads than you would prefer. It's not quite dusk yet and many of the shops are still open. What do you wish to do?

>Browse the shopping district, there might be an artificer's shop
>Head for the entertainment district, the theater might have a performance you can catch
>Stay inside the inn and begin drafting new designs for some ideas you have
>Write in

You have 43 silver and 1 gold and the inn has already received payment for the night, which includes supper.

I guess I'm rolling for a tiebreaker

>>
You decide to head to the entertainment district to see if there's anything worth watching right now. On the way you occasionally get the feeling of being watched, but looking around reveals nothing, just people going about their business. Upon arriving at the district you see are presented with multiple options in what you can see.

What do you watch:

>>
Glad to see this quest open again.
>>
It's like 2pm, most people don't get on 4chan in the middle of the day. The ideal time to start a quest is ~6pm Central time in the US.
>>
You decide to go see Tales of the Crimson Bulwark, which is actually a long line of plays with varying protagonists. This particular installment is about a slayer bone mage that wears a badger skull helmet and wields an ancient boneforge greatsword. He is on a quest to find his father's keep, which is under siege by bandits as the play begins, and is accompanied by a speaker bone mage with a rabbit helm. The play is quite violent despite it being advertised as child friendly entertainment.

As you are leaving the theater you overhear a conversation between other patrons.

“What gave that damn mage the right to lord over all those people in his keep, anyway? Damn skull lickers thinkin' they're better than everyone else.”

“It's the same story with real mages too, thinking they're better than us just because they can talk to bones.”

You disregard the anti-mage sentiments; wherever you go there's always someone bitter about mages for whatever reason.

You are still in the entertainment district and all the theaters have closed for the day. It is not quite dusk yet and you would bet on some shops in the shopping district being open still. Alternatively you can head back to the inn to tinker with some ideas.

>Head back to inn

Would that be a government ran by RJD or by Dio Brando? Captcha, you crazy.
>>
You decide to head on over to the shopping district to see if anything tickles your fancy. After the play you have 38 silver remaining, enough to buy something decent, usually. A short walk into the district and you find what you were looking for: a shaper's shop. According to the gold leaf writing on the sign above the door the shop is called 'Dentoro's Enchantments'. You enter the shop, a bell above the door signaling your presence. Behind the counter you see a middle aged man, his bushy beard beginning to develop streaks of gray. He initially regards you with a harsh expression before he softens after a moment. He waves you over, now smiling.

“Welcome to Dentoro's, how may I help you?” You ask if he has anything that would benefit a fellow mage. He starts pulling various artifacts off the shelf behind him, mostly blades and staves before you stop him.

You put your pistols on the counter and he picks them up, examining them carefully before placing them back down, even happier now.

“It's not often I get someone in here that's also in the business. I find it refreshing, to be honest. So, what are you looking for?”

You don't have enough to buy an entire new artifact, but you do have enough to purchase parts.

“What do you have in the way of parts?”

“I have the standard fare that most shapers will have, but I also got something new, experimental even”

[part 1/2]
>>
>>30307105
He reaches under the counter and places a lock-box onto the counter and opens it with a key from his pocket. Inside is an odd looking assembly of bone and steel parts. You pick it up and examine it. It appears to be hinged on one side and opens up into an oddly shaped chamber. The majority of the mechanism looks like a standard rifle sized bonecharge mechanism but the hinge confuses you for a bit until you realize what it is you're looking at.

“This is a breech loading part, isn't it”

Dentoro beams, excited that you understand what it is.

“Yes, however I also have one other item you might be interested in.”

He pulls up a second lock-box and opens it with a different key. Your eyes widen upon seeing what's inside.

“How'd you get one of these?” Your words are almost a whisper from the surprise.

“I have my sources.”

Inside the box is a burst mechanism. While similar to a bonecharge part, the boneburst works by creating a pulse of force at the breech that then continuously becomes stronger until the projectile leaves the barrel.

“Since this is your first time here, I'll give you a great discount, 36 silver for either part. Or,” he continues, eying your pistols, “You can get both if you trade in one of your pistols there.”

How do you respond?

>Buy breech/break loading part
>Buy boneburst mechanism
>Buy both (give up one pistol)
>Buy nothing
>>

>>
>>30307127
I think both of the parts are pretty nice. I would trade a pistol for them. Maybe we can use the horn bit that we took from the beetle and incorporate all of it into one gun?
>>
>>30307177
>>30307216
Okay, so the breech part is for a rifle/shotgun type weapon, basically it allows you to load from where the trigger is. Most guns in this setting load at the muzzle.

>>30307195
That particular one isn't, but if you buy it you will at some point be able to reverse engineer it and understand how to make one for a pistol.

>>
Deeming the offer too good to pass up, you agree to trade in one of your pistols for both of the parts. In the short term your fighting strength will be a bit lower but the increase long term makes it more than worth it you think. Dentoro locks both the boxes back up and hands you the keys as you hand him a pistol. As you are placing the boxes into your bag after paying, you hear a loud crash from the storefront. Looking over, you see broken glass and a large stone on the floor. Dentoro sighs.

“Second time this week.”

“You get vandals often?”

“It only started recently, first time was a month ago, but lately they've been getting more brazen.”

Thanking him again for the deal, you leave the store and head back to the inn as Dentoro closes his shop.

By the time you arrive back at the inn, night has fallen, the first stars beginning to become visible. The inn has begun serving dinner so you sit down at the bar to eat. At first you don't notice it, but as you continue into your meal you gradually notice how tense the atmosphere is. While a tavern would normally be quite loud at this time of night, the most you hear are hushed whispers from the other patrons. You catch the bartender's attention and ask him if something has happened recently to cause this atmosphere.

“That's the thing,” he says, “very recently the nights have become more and more like this and I haven't heard of anything that would cause this.”

You thank the man for his attention and finish up your meal before heading up to your room. The night is still a little younger than you would prefer to go to sleep, although getting a good night's rest would make the journey tomorrow a bit more pleasant. Your eye catches sight of the beetle horn on the desk in the room, your mind abuzz with ideas you have in store for that horn.

Do you:
>Do some light design work
>Go to sleep
>>
>>30308248
>>Do some light design work
Put the boneburst into the pistol.
>>
We could try to put the three pieces Into one gun if all of them could work together.
>>
>>30308276
Unfortunately, you don't have the tools at the moment to actually do any modifications. Also, as a side note, the burst mechanism works better with longer barrel weapons as it gives the projectile more space to accelerate.

Basically, its a magic railgun part
>>
>>30308366
Can we create a rifle later? Also, how are is bullets propelled?
>>
>>30308421
majyck
>>
>>30308366
You know what would perfect for that, our beetle horn.
>>
>>30308421
Yes you will be able to create a rifle later.

Boneburst weapons basically start slow and build up speed going down the length of the barrel, while bonecharge weapons charge up and release energy more in line like a traditional projectile weapon.

>>30308518
I was intending for this, actually.
>>
>>30308585
Do the bonecharge weapons require anything else in the barrel or is it just the magic of the gun that propels the bullet?
>>
>>30308366
What if we had some sort of spiral barrel. Like a ram's horn type of thing, which the bullet would accelerate through before entering the barrel proper? Obviously such a thing would be silly in real life due to centrifugal force, but do we have a way of countering this issue in this quest?

And then extend the barrel a little bit to pack even more punch.
>>
>>30308585
So you're saying boneburst weapons charge up the shot along the barrel and bonecharge weapons shoot with a burst of energy?

You may wanna rethink those names, namely switch them.
>>
>>30308661
Back in the days of blackpowder muzzle loading firearms I believe a measure of blackpowder was called a charge.
>>
>>30308633
Just the bullet, rest is magic. Although some guns have marrow chambers, which are like external pockets not directly connected to the barrel that can take a special pellet that increases the power of shots.

>>30308661
I am well aware of the name problem. But at this point I'm not sure if it would be more confusing to change the names or to keep the names the same and keep up the misconception.

This is what happens when some things are thought up before others.
>>
>>30308778
If that's the case it should be relatively easy for us to make a magazine fed weapon. I could even be a simple gravity fed hopper system.
>>
>>30308765
The More You Know!

>>30308778
I recommend switching, you did just introduce them, it should be fine. Unless you planned out a huge amount of setting and it would confuse you.
>>
Also, is everyone still fine with design work or do you want to change votes?

>>30308652
The biggest thing is that that would be extremely awkward to aim I think.

>>30308818
One of the big issues is that these guns take mana from you to fire, and multi-round weapons might drain you a bit too quickly.

>>30308825
Yeah, I guess I'll go ahead with switching the names.
>>
>>30308891
I Still vote for design work.

Not enough sleep will exacerbate the headache we'll get from being screamed at.
>>
>>30308891
Not at all! Just take the narrow part off of one of these, and replace half the barrel with it. There's even a handy slow to insert the pellet.

Like this

Bonecharge accelerates the shot through the spiral and then the barrel. Increased distance travelled = More energy gained = MORE DAKKA, while still retaining the compact size and ease of reloading, and not sacrificing any aim.

NOTE: BONECHARGE AND BONEBURST ARE NOW SWITCHED

You decide to get cracking on some basic designs to kill some time before going to bed. After a couple hours of work you have 3 very basic different designs for your beetle horn. The first design utilizes the breech loading mechanism and has two possible versions, one for taking standard lead balls or one that would take multiple smaller lead balls, similar to a blunderbuss. The second design utilizes the bonecharge mechanism to create a slower firing but more powerful weapon, and also branches between a single and multi-projectile weapon. The final design requires you to divide the horn into two parts and make a set of pistols out of them. Just as you put away your parchment and writing utensils, you hear faint footsteps out in the hallway that stop just outside your door. You can hear faint talking through the door.

What do you do?

>>
As quietly as you can, you load your gun and move behind the bed, waiting, watching. The seconds feel like hours as they pass. Eventually the talking stops and you hear a faint scratching coming from the door. The scratching stops after a few seconds and you hear footsteps heading back towards the stairs.

Silence.

You hear nothing, not from the door, not from downstairs, not from anywhere. Even your own breathing is so slight you can't hear it. After a few long minutes you slowly, painstakingly approach the door. Drawing your dagger with your free hand, you crack open the door with your middle and index fingers just a bit at first and wait. Nothing happens. You slowly poke the muzzle of your gun out into the hall before you rush out the rest of the way, scanning both directions.

There's not a soul in the hallway besides you. Putting your weapons away you look at your door. On the frame someone has carved an 'X' into the old wood. Heading back inside your room you put out the lights and crawl into bed, still fully dressed. You place your dagger beneath your pillow, still holding onto it.
[part 1/2]
>>
>>30310170
The rest of your night is spent fluctuating between periods of light sleep and waking up whenever you hear the creaking of wood. Surprisingly, when morning comes you aren't even tired. You pack up your things and head out of the inn without any issues. On your way out of the city you occasionally feel the gaze from yesterday, now even stronger. Nothing ever comes of it, though, and soon you are back out on the road, heading for the port.

On the road, a series of couriers pass you by on horseback, heading both to and from the port, although they seemingly pay you no mind. It isn't long before you reach your destination, the port city of Danmorm.

As you approach the city gates, you are stopped by the city guard.

“Halt, entry into Danmorm is temporarily forbidden. Please come back at another time.” You can almost swear the guard snickered a bit at the end of that statement. Something about the scene strikes you as odd, although you can't quite put your finger on it.

You decide to try and bluff your way into the city, the guards seem like the sort that would buy into it.

“Well, that's fine and all, but I guess the Ashin family will just bill you for the funeral for their only son, then. As well as hold you accountable for his death. He's got a case of the Rot. Real bad, too, the courier they sent to get me was very adamant about securing my services.”

It's been a while since you've had to bluff like that, but it looks like they bought into it. They practically trip over themselves to get to the gate. One of them pounds on the gate three times, and you hear a series of loud clicks before the gate swings open. The two guards stand aside the entry and bow.

“Welcome to Danmorm, sir, please enjoy your stay.” Out of the corner of your eye you catch the one that spoke grinning as you enter the city. As soon as you are inside the gate slams shut and locks.

The city seems off to you before you realize what's wrong.

There's no one out and about.

In the distance you can hear the sound of gunfire, the smell of smoke on the wind.

“What in the three hells is going on,” your words full of shock.

“Revolution, boyo.”

The words come from a man leaning up against the inside of the gate, somewhat obscured by shadow.

“And it looks like you're the wrong sort to be here at this particular time.”

He pounds on a door next to him twice, causing a couple of men to come rushing out, one brandishing a club and the other a wood-cutting axe. The man that was leaning against the side draws a knife.

“Come with us for a bit and we'll have a nice, long talk.”

You take a step back and draw your pistol, cocking the hammer as you do. It seems clear they were not expecting resistance, at least not the kind that fires hot lead.

“Right now I'm looking at someone that hasn't ever been so wrong before.” You point your gun at the man with the knife, making him jump back a bit. The other two men don't budge at all.

“Now, I am going to head on in and mind my own business, and you three will be just fine with that. I don't give a damn about whatever revolution you might have.”

You slowly circle around the men, careful to keep your weapon leveled at them the entire time while also staying out of their lunging range. When you are far enough away from the men that you feel they can't catch up to you, you turn and run in towards the heart of the city.

A bit of the ways into the city you see a group of men walking in your direction. Unlike the bunch at the gate, these ones are all armed with proper weapons. Fortunately, they haven't actually spotted you yet and you manage to turn into an alley before they can see you. You press up against the side of a building and wait for them to pass by, clutching your pistol in one hand and your dagger in the other.

[part 1/2]
>>
>>30312544
As they get closer, you can begin to hear their conversation.

“...punched a man so hard he turned into paste.”

“That's nothing, I heard one guy got his spine ripped clean out.”

“So what, don't those bone suckers have some spell or magic that does that sort of thing?”

“Well, I don't think it was that. I heard she just reached right into his chest and yanked it out like a weed.”

“I don't believe it. I know those skull lickers can do weird shit, but I don't buy it. Not one bit.”

>Towards where the sound of gunfire is coming from

Adventure.

Plus, we might be able to harvest some spines or something.

I was thinking, since the type of pistol we're using is very slow to fire, that it might be a good idea to carry around 4 or 5 of them. Or invent a bone revolver.

I would've referred that too.

Gunfire means bodies, bodies means bones. I'm guessing that humans are fairly good mana sources too (though not as much as drakes). The wonderful things we could do with dozens and dozens of human spines and ribs...

If OP can't hit you with your desired amount of posts per minute then try either learning patience or concentrate on other things between posts.

Read the first thread where OP's post timing was already discussed- it's all good, and his writing is quality and the plot is too, these may take him time but are worth waiting for.

Bear in mind he's doing this quest not only for your personal enjoyment- He has to enjoy running it and feel pleased with his output. There's also the other anons who might prefer a quest with proper spelling, grammar etc.- or one with concise, to the point yet descriptive writing.

if you want an update-a-minute quest why not try running your own? I'd be down to play it. It'd be hectic but probably pretty fun...
>>
>>30313368
>opinions
Thanks for yours, bro! Thanks. That really helps keep a quest moving, some namefag handing out his declaration with a sealed stamp of approval for whatever's going on now whenever anyone else makes a comment. The QM's perfectly capable of taking advice or rejecting it.

OP can come to his own conclusions either way, but saying 'some other guys decided it was okay yesterday' is not a great argument to throw in other people's faces today.

>if you want an update-a-minute quest why not try running your own?

You decide that heading towards the docks would be the best course of action. If your master isn't there you get the feeling that she'll at least have left a trail behind, for better or worse. Between not being quite sure of where you are and trying to dodge patrols, it takes you a while to actually make it to the waterfront district.

The situation down at the waterfront district is quite a bit different from the entrance to the city. Massive swaths of blood cover the ground intermittently, and closer to the water a massive column of smoke is rising up towards the sky. You smell what seems to be pork being cooked in the air. Trying your best to remain undetected, you sneak towards the source of the smoke.

There you see a massive fire burning, with some men standing nearby with pitchforks. One man seems to be having a breakdown of sorts. Moving closer, you are able to make out some shapes in the fire, until you are close enough to make out some more detail. The fire is burning human corpses, although not as many of them are as boneless as you initially thought they would be at first. The man having the breakdown is being consoled by someone next to him.

“That woman's a demon I say, a demon!”

“There's no way that's true, and you know it.”

“I saw it with my own eyes! She had so many bullet holes in her but she just kept on going! Every time she got hit she just ripped out someone's spine and made herself all better!”

“Listen to yourself, you damn idiot! There's no way that's possible.”

“I know what I saw, and I saw something that I didn't think possible. But there it was, happening like nothing was wrong.”

“It's bad enough that this revolution was already fairly bloody to begin with, but now this? This is absurd. I hope Darrin knows what he's doing.”

[1/2]
>>
>>30313591
damn your master is a boss
>>
>>30313591
It seems that your master has passed through here at some point, but is now somewhere else in the city. Following the trail of bloodshed left behind leads you back towards the heart of the city and also towards the sound of gunfire. It isn't long until you come upon a bunch of more recent skirmishes, as there are still fresh corpses left behind. Standing atop a pile of corpses is a woman approaching middle age, but still relatively young. Her short red hair is splattered with blood, but not as much as her clothes. She regards you with cold blue eyes.

“Ah, master, I've been looking for you.”

~~

And with that, tonight's session has come to an and. I'll continue tomorrow at 4:00 EST.
As always, I'll do questions and answers until the thread dies.

>>
>>30313733

>>
>>30313634
You should get a twitter to announce your threads, maybe also get yourself added to the directory at https://twitter.com/eisenstern/quest-runner-directory

Just message the guy. He's usually pretty fast about this stuff.
>>
>>30313733
We can do other things to produce repeated fire.
>>
>>30313664
Good question. You yourself only have 20 points of mana, and your gun has 10 in itself. Each shot takes 2 points from you and 1 from your gun. You regenerate 1 point every round of combat that you do not use mana in, and your gun recharges 1 for every 3 that it isn't used.

>>30313668
Yes, that was Volkov talking.

>>30313733
The spiral design could work, but beware the longer you make the barrel the more mana it takes to fire for weapons of that type.

Revolver might be doable at some point.
>>
>>30313802
I'll probably have a twitter before I run the next thread, so I'll keep that in mind.
>>
>>30313809
Can we combine different bits of hardware, for example the breach-loader and the different firing mechanism we bought from the guy?
>>
>>30313809
So we could theoretically make a 10 round magazine before running out of mana? What shape are the bullets?
>>
>>30313902
From what I am understanding, putting the gun below 3 points of mana will cause it to degrade, so we should use a 6 or 7 round magazine.

At which point we're probably better off making a revolver.
>>
>>30313463
>>30313480
>>30313529

Jesus Christ. Calm Down.

This is OP's first quest, yesterday he said he was just glad people were reading it- having someone come on and bitch about the time between post's I thought I'd just say that it's alright to take a while, and some people (hence referencing yesterdays thread) are quite alright with that. His comment doesn't read as advice- it was criticism phrased UN-constructivly. And if my reply to him counts as shouting someone down then you must be new to the internet.

>>30313785
>>30313725
>>30313702
If i needed the attention of you dudes i'd get a trip. I put a name on so that OP knew i came back from yesterday, like i said i would.
I don't think encouraging a person who's new to running quests is insulting to anyone, it may be needy in that I want him to keep going, but whats wrong with that?
>>
>>30313882
You will in the future be able to combine different designs like that, but at your current Shaper level you lack the know how for it.

>>30313902
As it stands right now, that is correct. However, as you level you gain levels in your non specialized skills (Speaker and Slayer) you mana will go up 5 points for each level. For levels in Shaper, your specialized skill, you will gain 7.

>>30313942
The gun itself won't degrade if you run down its internal supply, but if you reach 0 mana in your gun you'll be in a bad position. Also, in general you should try to be careful about not using up all your own mana or you'll be left without many means of protecting yourself.
>>
>>30313942
Well, if we find a way to replenish our mana we may benefit from the ease of reloading a detachable magazine gives us. Revolvers look cool but an autoloader may be more practical.

>>30313946
There are plenty of people playing. The only thing you're doing by namefagging is being an attention whore.
>>
>>30313809
How long does it take to fully recharge our mana outside of combat?

Would anything negative happen to us if we were to completely drain our mana apart from not being able to use magic- is there anything part of us that would suffer if we ran out of mana?
>>
>>30313946
>I put a name on so that OP knew i came back from yesterday, like i said i would.

Once again, reeking of neediness. And no, not needy in that you want this to keep going, needy for affection.

Saying that you're wearing a name for any reason other than a desire for approval is just deceiving yourself.
>>
>>30313946
>op has to know I came back, like I said I would
you utter whore. he can tell because people are posting. what a fag.
>>
>>30314022
I have to admit that so far this has been there bet quest I've seen. Might be because im newfag but whatever. See you tomorrow OP.
>>
>>30314028
Outside of combat it depends mostly on how long you remain out, but generally an hour will be enough to get back half of it, currently.

As for negative effects that's actually something that will be shown later on at some point.
>>
>>30314134
Are there any potions or charms that can replenish/boost our mana?
>>
>>30313946
it's better for you if you ignore them, so they can ignore you and everyone get along by ignoring each other. Takes two to argue.
>>
>>30314147
There are items like that but those are relatively difficult to make.
>>
>>30314134
>>30314147

So mana resides in bones, and mana can be put into charms from us in a sustained fashion to cause resonance to power sustained spells.

I assume it'll be possible to make 'mana batteries' so to speak later on. We are only level 1 though.
>>
>>30314213
I actually touched a bit on the mana battery thing a little bit last thread. Some artifacts can be designed to leech power from focuses you place into them, so eventually some items will be able to have dedicated recharge packs.
>>
>>30314022
How hard would it be to make an external battery for the gun. (so it doesn't run out so fast)

Would the blunder bust cost more man to use or would it just have less stopping power than a one shot rifle?
>>
>>30314262

Indeed you did. The possibilities for an artificer are truly endless.
>>
>>30314282

I'm not so much down for a blunderbuss. We already have a close range firearm (the pistol) and a close range melee weapon.

Let's try and keep the distance a bit further than that.
>>
>>30314282
Adding the ability for your weapons take an interchangeable power supply is something you'll be able to do at the next Shaper level, so it will be fairly soon.

Blunderbuss costs are relative to the amount of projectiles you load them with
>>
>>30314331
A combination of a charge rifle and a burst pistol would be nice. Are the barrels of each rifled?
>>
>>30314437

Our pistols were described as flintlock or matchlock style, so probably not them.

I would assume the charge rifle is...rifled. Anyone else would love to play as a Shaper/Speaker who likes to snipe things and then teleport away using whatever our master used to store the bug corpse away with?
>>
>>30314331
I agree, I'm not that fused by a blunderbuss really, what I liked was the second idea of>>30309367
>The second design utilizes the bonecharge mechanism to create a slower firing but more powerful weapon, and also branches between a single and multi-projectile weapon.

Building a mega powerful sniper rifle would be wicked.
>>
>>30314474
Dude read
>>30314523

I'm FULLY down to snipe and run.
>>
>>30314523
>>30314555

We could even (eventually, once we get materials strong enough to withstand it) add in multiple marrow-charge and mana-battery slots.

That would all be drained in one beautiful shot.
>>
>>30314474
Well, if it isn't rifled it would be a musket. There isn't much difference between muskets and blunderbusses, just the width of the muzzle.
>>
>>30314395
>Blunderbuss costs are relative to the amount of projectiles you load them with
Since you gave us the option to go with ether a blunderbuss or a rifle I'll assume they have comparable usefulness.
If each individual projectile has the same power as a one shot rifle. The blunderbuss is probably less a accurate at long range. Since we already have a short range weapon a sniper rifle might be better.

Can we modify our pistol to shoot multiple rounds. (two or three max)
>>
>>30314627

Well, and the length. This all being said, since these munitions are propelled by mana/magic instead of hot gases we don't even know if rifling is something that needs to be done.

Also, knowledge of rifling might be meta.
>>
>>30314686
I assume the spin imparted on the bullet would be useful regardless. I wonder if we can make minie balls because I think they might use round balls.
>>
>>30314686
Rifling does still exist in this setting, as do proper black-powder weapons.

basically this
>>
>>30314963
That's sorta what I was going for with that Spiral Barrel thing. Longer barrel, even if it's curved, combined with the bonecharge thing, will result in souped up firepower.
>>
>>30314963
Some guy actually made a rapid fire cannon using a steam engine and a centrifuge like that. This was in the 1800s I believe. The US military never picked it up unfortunately.
>>
>>30314956
Rifling does improve ballistics in mana-based firearms, since boneburst tech only causes a force to be applied to the round and doesn't inherently cause it to spin.

And yeah, a weapon like that would be able to have multiple power settings, you just have to design it with that in mind.
>>
>>30315145
Instead of lead can we make exploding bone bullets
>>
>>30315216
Just fire the distal and intermediate phalanges. They're basically the right size to be bullets.
>>
>>30315216
We might need a larger gun then. 20mm would be good for exploding munitions.
>>
>>30315260
or teeth. teeth might make good bullet bombs/armor piercing rounds.
>>
>>30315317

I'd think that teeth'd be better against lightly armored foes.

The knucklebones of martial artists would make excellent armor penetrators.
>>
>>30315308
Sorry but i know nothing about guns, I assume 20mm would be large because most handguns i hear about are 9mm or whatever?

>>30315385
We'd have to file the teeth into even sharper points surely?
>>
>>30315416
Yeah, 20mm would be in the rifle range.

>>30315317
Teeth aren't very aerodynamic though.
>>
>>30315317
Teeth could be rapidfire. Finger bones are a larger caliber.
>>
>>30315435

We'd glue them together with bonemeal and magic of course, and they'd be some sort of shredder round.

Again, only for lightly-armored targets.

>>30315416
>>30315435
Well keep in mind that this is the colonial era, the Mini-ball didn't come around until the 1860s. Right now just about everything is .50 cal.
>>
>>30315460
Or we could carve bones into spitzer rounds and fill them with lead to make them heavier.

Or fill the bones into lead since I doubt bone would stand up well to being scraped down a rifle chamber.
>>
>>30315549
If the chamber is made of bone, they'd do fine.
>>
>>30315607
Plus they're helped along by our magic, and the magic the projectile gleans from the bones in the gun itself- that's gotta be a pretty good lubricant.

>Unless I havent quite understood the way these work?
>>
>>30315145
So when's next quest OP?
>>
>>30316012
Tomorrow at 4 PM, eastern time.
>>
>>30316041
Do you think this'll be a regular quest or will you just run it when you can? Not that I mind.
>>
>>30315949
Burst fire is like a conventional firearm, except instead of propellant magic is used. Charge is like a railgun.

The problem is that firearms push a bullet through the barrel and it conforms to the rifling to impart spin. Lead is a good material for this because it is soft and ductile. Bone is hard and brittle so I imagine it would break up in the barrel due to friction.

Or it could all be held together with magic I dunno.
>>
>>30316072
This week I'm going to attempt daily runs just to get it off the ground, but from then on I'll probably slow down to every other day.
>>
>>30316112
You could always have bone-cored lead round.
>>
>>30316112
Seems my never learning anything about firearms is showing.

Will google.
Didn't even realize the barrel made the bullet spin, I always assumed it was the force of the explosion and a minute difference in the poweder dist. whithin the shell. But what the fuck do i know...
>>
>>30316134
>Slayer
>Speaker
>Shaper
Volkov's specialty is Shaping, but what is his teachers specialty.
>>
>>30316116
Good to hear.
>>
>>30316301
I was trying to be somewhat subtle about it not really, but it's Slaying.
>>
>>30316301

Seems like Speaking with a pretty heavy amount of slayer and moderate shaping too. All around high-level though.

>>30316284
There are spiral grooves on the inside of a "rifled" barrel (the grooves are called "rifling") that cause the gases from the explosion to spin the bullet. The spin of the bullet does some neat things with physics and makes it fly straighter.
>>

>>30316134
Or just attach it to the front of the minié ball
>>
>>30316358
>>30316284

This is opposed to cannons and muskets, which are smoothbore and much less accurate at ranges. We still use cannons for very powerful guns though (like tank guns, those are cannons. And some artillery) because we don't have metals strong enough to keep their grooves under such tremendous forces as those guns exert.
>>
>>30316358
>>30316409

Nice to learn about something I'd never have thought to look up. Thanks gents.
