You really don't have time for this. You stand at the base of the wall and look left, then right, then behind you. Nothing stirs in as you look around and you don't see anyone spying on you but just to be sure you run one block and check again, you spot no one. You sigh in relief and change to your combat clothes and jump upwards as high as you can and make it up halfway up the wall with no incident and you use an outcropping to support your second jump.

"It's such a nice view from all the way up here" You think to yourself as you are able to look further away into town. You see the easily recognizable outline of the mansion out in the distance and a lot of nice looking building scattered all around.

You turn your head around to focus on your landing and you see a very familiar shape. A chameleon wearing a stylish suit, one of its sleeves flaps in the wind from the elbow down. "You don't seem to have noticed yet have you?" You see him grin as he brandishes a dagger on his left hand.

You are at the height of your jump and if he would attack you right now you wouldn't be able to dodge. Yet, he lets you land at the top of the wall. "What do you mean? What do you want?" You ask him, brandishing your sword and holding it tightly.

"Wouldn't you want to know?" Marcus vanishes from your sight even though you know he's there. 5 tense seconds pass and you notice three knives coming straight at you

Those knives look sharp, too sharp to even be pointed at you and much less flying straight to your chest. You are not fast enough not nearly fast enough to avoid or even block those knives. You realize how slow you are when one of them digs itself solidly on your shoulder and the other in your leg. The third one was headed towards your neck but you managed to dodge that one just barely. You feel a small amount of blood ooze out of your neck but otherwise you're fine if you don't count the other two knives.

Marcus appear in the same space as before looking incredibly pleased with himself. "Yes, that should do the trick." and he puts his knives back into his coat. "Unfortunately I'm not allowed to kill you or that last knife would certainly have hit."

The pain your leg is making it hard to stand and your shoulder feels like it's been poked by red-hot iron. Even if he's gloating over you and making you get angrier and angrier. You can't get a certain feeling out of your head.

Something is weird,

Something is certainly weird. He's provoking you, he hasn't done that before, Its not him even if he vomits words into pages. You open your senses up to include Red's work again.

Something huge is with Red and Amano, you're not sure what their plan is but it involves keeping you away from them. Red and Amano are slowly inching their way to the inside of the school while what is certainly sushi is wailing on them. YOu need to leave now.

Marcus is so overconfident as he gloats that he doesn't notice when you jump from the top of the wall and into school grounds. They should be somewhere off to you left.

Well, this is the option I normally wouldn't pick but it kind of feels like they want us to retreat.
Then again Marcus could have just been lying about not being allowed to kill us, but assuming he isn't I'll go with no doing what was expected of us.

You run, and mildly feel Marcus' displeased gaze on your back as you make our way towards the last place you know Amano and red were at. You need to get the both of them to the seal room and the best way to do it is to distract the shark the only way you know how, hitting it with your sword you jump over one of the side buildings and see what is left of the battle as Amano and Red retreated into the school. The ground is upturned at sever places and you see the unmistakable gigantic footprints of your toothy friend.

You runto towards the inside of the building and past a ruined doorway only to see rubble strewn all over the floor. Sushi doesn't seem to care at all about the with of the smaller corridors as you can clearly see his path through the places the walls were supposed to be. You are drawn closer at the sounds of something heavy pounding on metal. Over and over again.

And thats when you spot them. Amano is doing the best she can to stop the shark's attacks with th shields on her arms, only for her guard to be broken every time and putting it up just in time to block against the slow but ceaseless assault on on her. You are shocked to notice that Red is unconscious and being carried on Amano's back, how she's holding on you'll find out later. Right now all you need to do is charge with your sword and stab him.

You begin to pick up speed and with all the strength you can muster you jump forwards and slice him ont he back of his leg.

"Get to the seal room! Hurry!" You yell out just in time to appraise the damage you've done. You opned his skin but it seems like with one of your arms useless you're going to have do rely on something else.

Amano looks at you in surprise and worry. You must still have those daggers stuck in you.

You won't do any serious damage even with your sword out and besides, right now your objective isn't to beat sushi but to give Amano time to run away. Despite the gash you gave him he doesn't seem to notice any sort of damage on him as it begins to slowly close. Damnit, why is the toughest one the one that can regenerate? His upper body spins quickly as tries to hit you with the back of his hand. You see this coming and somersault above his attack and as sson as you land you jump backwards to avoid the inevitable follow-up attack. He punches the ground and large cracks form all over the floor.

Amano quickly makes her way down the stares but not before waving her arm in your direction. You feel a green glow hover a small distance away from your skin, like a shell of some kind. You silently thank the girl and get right back to dodging the kick thats coming from below. He has a ridiculous range even for his size and just standing here isn't going to do you much good. Theres another entrance to the basement you can use in order to get to the seal room. But you're not sure if the way hasn't been blocked from the destruction.

You ever so slowly back out from his range towards the other stairwell, if he takes your bait the big stupid and grey wall of muscles has already completely forgotten about Amano and Red. You jump and move behind a pillar with the hopes that he'll chase you and thankfully he does! He is slowly making his way towards you and destroying the pillars that stand in his way. He's not charging at you now though...is he being carfeul?

You are still glowing green from Amano's help...you think its a shield of some kind since she is Cure Shield after all. He is moving slowly after all, maybe it takes time for him to warm up? YOu don't really know. AS you're pondering why the shark moves so slow compared to before said shark decides to charge at you. The gray mass of muscles and shark smashes its way through several pillars as the whole place shakes violently like an earthquake. He comes to a sliding stop and turns to face you. He is now in between you and your exit route.

"So you're smarter than you look. I hope you know you're not allowed to kill me." You tell him, its not as if he's going to answer you. You get ready to dodge for any attack he might bring your way and then you hear it. A low and rythmic grunting coming from the gray thing thats made out of muscle and teeth. The shark's frame is shaking slowly. And then it hits you.

He is laughing. Wasn't he supposed to be a mindless fighter? You get ready for anything.

Despite your readiness you were taken by surprise by his talking, "Do I look like a care?" He asks you before he charges towards you again.

You take your sword out and get ready for anything the big gray shark might throw at you. Despite the saying, you were not expecting him to start throwing the scattered remains of the pillars he so casually knocked down, one after the other with no regards. You frantically dodge them the best you can, one clips you but the barrier holds. Good thing too because even if one would have just clipped you you're sure you wouldn't have come out of it unscathed. His throwing speed gets faster and faster and you frantically try to think on something to defend yourself better and start cutting the pillars he throws at you with your sword, occasionally boosting your attacks with a small shockwave to move your sword faster.

After you split one las flying pillar you see him right up in your face! You were too focused on cutting that you didnt notice him charging straight behind one! He charges into you and with the sound not unlike of glass breaking you are knocked far away. You may be fast but theres no way you can outrun him after he's started running.

You swing your sworrd in a wide arc and let loose with a shockwave, making a wedge of energy travel in the air. Hopefully it will be able to stop him or at least pierce his skin. You hopes are shatter as it slides off him, and you remember just how well his skin repelled magic. You haven't recovered from your one-handed swing before he reaches you and with a fist that is bigger than your face he punches your stmach as hard as he can, catching you in an uppercut and launching you into the air. You slam against the ceiling with a loud cracking noise.

Sorry for taking so long, what I rolled was pretty much 'how much does sushi fuck you up before help arrives/you get to seal room' and well, I expected little to moderate damage. I didn't expect dice to be on my side so one-sidedly.

Kintolesky you just learned why it's proper to add modifiers in your rolls if you don't expect them to go a certain way. He didn't have the jump on us, we saw this coming, we were on the defensive, So maybe a -20 or so to that roll would have given you the result you wanted.

Not giving you shit for this, but if you don't highly expect for this to happen, don't make it possible for it to happen. This is why almost no one (except yourself) uses a roll vs system without huge modifiers for the players side.

Everyone uses DCs or modifiers except you, this is the only quest that I know of that doesn't use it and it really came and bit the us in the ass because you didn't plan this out very far. When you use a roll vs without modifiers, you might as well flip a coin for us and complete the encounter without our input.

Tonight wasn't much fun not because we got our ass kicked, but because we had input on exactly two may be three decisions and two dice rolls. I love your quest and all but please plan these things better in the future.

Our plot armor is relative to the amount of drama our death would produce.. We were with two relatively new characters so it wasn't dramatic enough for us to die saving them. If we were with Momoko, Misa, and/or Aomi, we probably could really die as that would be suitably dramatic enough.

This time was different from the ones before though. Normally we get 3 chances to beat his 1 DC or roll (this is largely in our favor). We just happened to fail to meet it this time when dodging Marcus's knives. Then we additionally made a bad decision to try to fight sushi while wounded, so as Kin said it was just a roll to see how much damage we take.
TL;DR modifiers are not necessary due to multiple rolls vs. one... except this time.

Which is my point here: if you don't want dice to roll a certain way then don't put us in a position where the dice could roll that certain way. It's really poor planning to have so much happen because of so few rolls.

What we're saying is that by /choosing/ to go on the offensive we guaranteed him an opening to hit us, because we were in poor fighting condition and he is a strong opponent. Now, he might have missed his opening if he rolled poorly, but that would have been him making a mistake not us skillfully dodging his attack. He didn't botch his roll, instead he made use of the opening we gave him.

I don't see a problem with the dice system, just a disagreement over the interpretation of what those rolls represent.

Neither did I. Got back from washing dishes just after the vote - and I would have voted to focus on dodging while escaping. Them's the breaks with using /tg/. Not winning a vote or the OP accidentally miscounting are also unavoidable hazards. You just need to make sure you're not so invested in these quests that the frustration gets to you. Well, that's how I look at it anyway. Blood under the bridge and all that.
