Let me repost the last update, it covered a lot

Schatten is growling quietly, almost loud enough for them to hear. But the soldiers are turned inwards, their attention towards Nadel. “I would advise caution, to both of you. The man in the center is not ordinary, and I believe both Cailan and Caecilia are coming here. Seven legends in the same place might cause trouble,” the homunculus whispers.

“You count yourself?”

“Of course, a girl must always think well of herself, even if I don’t have a name. I’m waiting for you to fix that by the way,” she responds. The messenger man has been led off to the side, the strange smelling man behind him has his sword drawn.

The leader in the center is addressing his men. “So it would seem that the whipped slave has stood up for himself finally. Or maybe he’s just his bitch’s toy? Dancing her dance for us. It would explain the dress!” his men all laugh at that.

“I would speak terms Abirami,” a man announces from the opposite side of the grove. He’s approaching the clearing with several guards on either side, and behind him is Cailan, but the warrior seems smaller than last you saw him.

The leader, Captain Abirami, chuckles at that. “We gave you our terms. I don’t see,”

“And I will meet them,” the Dominus states, cutting Captain Abirami off.

The two men stare at each other as they meet in the burnt clearing. “You would give us access to your stores of supplies? Allow us to destroy this abomination in your forest?”

“In exchange for peace, yes.”

“And your wife?”

“What of her?”

I had read the first two or so threads when it was running but I couldn't get into it. I'm no eloquent or insightful enough to tell you what exactly I didn't like about it.
I think you tried to write it more like a story than a quest which isn't bad per se, but didn't work for me.

Homu can talk with others. I think our best choice is try to team up with Dominus.

We can't take them on alone.

“Whitefang, what do you think you’re doing?” the homunculus asks as you begin to prowl through the shadows around the burnt clearing. Captain Abirami is distracted with abusing Caecilia, throwing her in front of his men and making obscene jokes.

“I’m sorry, but I cannot save her like this. You ask the impossible of me,” you respond. Schatten is close behind you, ready to attack. “Unless you have a plan I can use.”

“Of course the discarded spirit of knowledge and power is the only one capable of coming up with a plan. Why would I ever think a thick headed guy like you could come up with something,” the homunculus responds. You snarl a bit, but bite your tongue. “Caecilia’s magic keeps her young and beautiful, never a shadow of a blemish might cross her visage. Cute way of saying she can’t be harmed either. Best way to kill her without breaking her legend would be to burn her with Nadel. Two legends, one torch,” she continues as you see one of the torchbearers reappear on the far side of the meadow.

You hadn’t noticed him leave, but he’s clearly returning with a bundle of twisted vines, dry hemp or something, and he’s walking towards the tree. “All of you are monsters, inhuman! What could possess you to do this?” Caecilia screams as they hold her down to Nadel’s trunk. “Why are you doing this to me?”

“Because my dear,” the dominus says as he walks forward, a small bundle of cloth in his arms. He lets the cloth open up from the flesh wrapped inside. “You are a whore,” he states as he hits her with it. All of the men begin to laugh as he spits on her and walks away. Cailan has his head bowed so low you can’t see his face.

“I told you that would be suicide for me,” you growl at her.

“Just trust me. You just have to last long enough to spark that legend, and I can nudge things along,” she responds as Schatten snarls.

“Come out come out Whitefang. What a day this will be. Four of you monsters all at once. Hannibal will be pleased with me,” Captain Abirami shouts into the woods, turning around slowly. “I know you’re out there, you always were a curious one. It’s how you killed my cousin Hasdrubal, isn’t it? Biding your time in the shadows, lurking, waiting for a sign of weakness.”

The torch bearers are looking into the shadows as well, some draw their swords, others don’t. They leave themselves vulnerable. Captain Abirami continues again as you pick your target. “Now why don’t you wait right there while I get my spear?” he says as you dash forward and leap upon your prey. A small man, he can’t even get his arms up in time after noticing you attacking him. You knock him to the ground and gore out his throat with practiced ease, his fire guttering out in the slush.

Captain Abirami scowls as you take stock of your surroundings. The eleven other torch bearers all have their attentions on you, Schatten is nowhere to be seen, the dominus and his men haven’t moved, Cailan is now glaring between his master and Captain Abirami rather than his feet, and Caecilia is laughing. “Did you think you could kill me so easily? That I am not protected?”

“That opportunistic bitch,” the homunculus swears in your ear. “She’s going to twist this around, isn’t she? Just ignore her if you can. This isn’t her show.”

The humans are frightened, but they don’t seem to be about to break. They are different.

We did just go on about alliances and what not.
It's mostly a hope that The capt is untrusting and goes for a "Kill'em all" approach.

So, if I understand the mechanics right

ambush tactics where they don't see you coming:

fight tactics where you're out in the open:

Captain Abirami turns around to look at you. He tilts his head to the side. “That voice is familiar.” You step back.

“That’s Caecilia’s voice. So that’s where the bloody homunculus went,” the dominus says as he steps towards you, but his guards grab him and cease his advance.

“Where do you think she got her power from?” the homunculus adds before Caecilia can twist it.

“So Whitefang, the Terrible has gone and made some friends?” Captain Abirami asks. His men have been closing in on you, but aren’t quite close enough to attack.

“Shadows actually,” the homunculus answers just before you howl.

Schatten bursts from the darkness nearby, tackling one of the torch bearers to the ground and mauling at him. In the confusion, you turn and dash through the snow away from the clearing.

“After him!” Captain Abirami shouts. “And bring my horse!” The four nearest soldiers all give chase while the others spread out, some moving to attack Schatten.

“You’re all going to die,” Caecilia adds as she begins to laugh.

You run through the woods, dashing between the trunks and weaving between the hills as the humans follow after you. “What is Caecilia doing?”

“She’s trying to use Nadel. Twist the truth enough with lies and you can change it. How else is she supposed to escape from being burned alive? We’re doing the same thing, aren’t we?” she responds as you duck into a ravine.

“But is it working?” you ask as you slow your run and slide through the shadows. The four men behind you are fanning out, calling between one another as they search for you.

“Soon enough, I know what I’m doing. Who do you think taught that bitch? Well, technically it was the woods witch, but she killed her quick enough. Would have been pretty hard to do all of this if we were bound by her grimoire, wouldn’t it?” the homunculus explains as you sneak under the trunk of a fallen tree, with the humans nearly above you but oblivious.

“I’m glad this burden on my body is paying off then. Will my legend ignite soon?” you ask as you begin to run back to the clearing.

“Hopefully, but I can’t tell what will come of it yet,” she responds. When you see the clearing again, Schatten is still atop the same human, and seems to have killed him. That leaves ten of the torch bearers. The two on either side of him are roaring as they charge with their swords, but he dodges away from both of them. They swear and curse him, and don’t see you coming.

“Idiot humans, you would destroy the spirit of the forests and doom yourselves to starvation,” you say through the homunculus as you flick your head to Schatten, cueing him to slip away.

“What a lovely little daemon you sold yourself to dear. You should have brought him to dinner,” the dominus says, chuckling to himself. He and his men have backed up to the edge of the clearing.

Five of the torch bearers are still in the clearing, but all but two have already discarded their fire to take up arms. three have swords, the others have bows. When you bring their numbers down to four by gutting the one attacking Schatten, all four of them attack you. But they are weak creatures, seemingly reliant on another’s strength, and you evade them. Why they haven’t broken and abandoned the fight is beyond you.

“Everyone, come back to the clearing, he’s just going to toy with you. We have the bitch he needs right here,” Captain Abirami shouts as he rides back into the clearing on horseback, spear in hand. The horse he rides is a ghastly brute, black skinned and muscle bound. “Stop trying to fight him by yourselves. I’ve already sent word out, the others will be here soon. He can’t escape. We’ll gut him, his shadow, burn the witch, and ash the tree.”

“Would you look at that,” the homunculus comments. Everyone else’s attention had been on Captain Abirami, but she noticed the dominus give Cailan a good shove forward.

You growl as you feel something swell in your soul. You can hear a few dozen other soldiers rushing through the woods to you. The humans seem to have an inexhaustible supply of allies. But you have allies as well.

The two swordsmen near you are wary now, no longer rushing. Rather than let them grow in numbers to smite you down, you pounce as a cloud passes over the sun. The momentary distraction lets you easily knock him to the ground and rip out his exposed throat. “Looks like your backup has finally arrived, I’ll have to thank Nadel when this is over,” the homunculus whispers to you. You instinctively howl and look back to the humans. Fear is renewed in them, and you can hear the snarling of the sisters behind you. Schatten emerges from the forest on the far side.

“Shadows! Demons! Monster!” the panicked humans shout as you prowl towards them. “He is a Leader of Shadows!”

“Fire only makes shadows stronger you know,” the homunculus adds as you bare your fangs at the torch bearer. The frightened welp drops it into the snow and backs away. You can feel your body swell with power as the legend ignites, and panicked shouts about you spread through the woods from mouth to mouth.

“You fools! Do not break hope. It is your weakness that has allowed this. These beasts grow stronger with your fear. Hold fast damn you!” Captain Abirami shouts as you notice Cailan walk towards him. “We’ll kill all of these filthy creatures if I have to do it myself! Now stand by me and prepare yourselves!”

“You are a fool,” Caecilia says as you watch Cailan draw both of his blades and bury them in the neck of the black horse. The creature screams in pain and begins to topple. Cailan rips his blades free as Abirami leaps from the saddle. The man scowls and flicks the blood from his swords and stands opposed to the legend.

The woods is alive like you have never noticed before. Your nose can pick out a million different scents. From the nuances of each person’s blood, to the strange smell of oil poured around Nadel’s trunk, the acrid sap leaking from Nadel’s scar, that the dominus is completely at ease, and you can smell the glowing insects gathering around Nadel.
