Rules & Char Sheet: http://pastebin.com/ZxSz1cae

You are Abigail Spencer Jackson, Knight Incubator. You have superhuman strength, durability, and agility, but at the cost of being the host of a Cambion, a murderous monster that will - eventually - kill you, using your body as a focus to instantiate itself and probably go on a killing spree. The only way to delay this fate is to kill other Incubators and Cambions.

You've just got done telling your girlfriend, Tracy, that you want to meet up with her older brother, Jim. He's some middling gangster, and he sent some guys to beat you up a couple weeks ago. You're harboring some suspicions regarding his closeness and overprotectiveness of Tracy.

And you're sitting at the lunch table with her and Ned, who is probably feeling a little left out of this conversation.

>"Tracy. Let's set up a date for next Saturday."
>"Ned. Tracy. Let's do a double date."
>"Ned, I kind of got the impression that your girlfriend doesn't like me. What's up with that?"
>"Ned. I still can't believe you stole my date idea."

"Ned," you start, turning to your friend, "I still can't believe you stole my date idea."

"Wh-" he says, stumbling over his words. "Well, it's not like you had a patent on it!"

"And on the same day I went out with Tracy, too?"

"I panicked and couldn't come up with anything good! You don't need to rub it in..." He shrinks in on himself.

You slap his back, though careful not to apply a supernatural amount of strength. "Hey, man, I'm just yanking your chain. More seriously though, I kind of got the impression that your girlfriend-"

"Still not official."

"That Veronica," you say, emphasizing the word, "doesn't like me. What's up with that?"

"Really?" He asks. "You sure you're not just imagining it?"

"Pretty sure. She tried to crush my hand when we shook hands." You pause for a moment, and notice Tracy's expression. "Failed, of course. I'm made of tougher stuff than that."

"Maybe she was just trying to rib you? Or... I dunno, Abby. I mean, I've mentioned you a couple times, but I can't think of anything that would make her have an issue with you."

>"Maybe she's hates me because I'm so butch."
>"Maybe she's a homophobe."
>"Maybe she thinks you're in ~love~ with me."
>"Maybe she thinks since I'm your best friend, she has to ward me off?"

Probably most reasonable.
>>
"Maybe she thinks you're in ~love~ with me," you say, exaggerating the word 'love'.

"Abby, there is no way I'd ever be in ~love~ with you." Ned also exaggerates the word love, but this time in a sarcastic way. "You're the sort of person who rubs dog poop in their best friend's hair."

You clasp your chest, gasping. "You're still mad about that? We were six!"

"I will never forget that day as long as I live," Ned says, solemnly. "And I will make sure you don't, either."

Tracy is giggling a little, and you try to smoothly shift the conversation onto a different topic from your embarrassingly improper childhood behavior. "Maybe she thinks since I'm your best friend, she has to ward me off?"

"I guess that might be it," Ned says, his expression considering it. "I don't know. That doesn't sound like her."

What else to do on a date... arcade, maybe? Dinner or lunch somewhere nice, before or after? The zoo? A dance? A sports game? Bowling? Roller skating? Mini-golf? A park? An amusement park? A concert? Ice cream shop? Hiking (probably not today, but maybe some other time)? A museum? Shopping?[/quote]

"How about the amusement park? We can go out, have a nice time, pick up some lunch there, you know."

"Oooh, and you could win me a big stuffed animal like in all the TV shows!" Tracy seems particularly excited by this possibility.

You turn to Ned. "Now Ned," you say, voice even, "you're not going to steal my idea this time, right?"

Ned laughs awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck. "Me? Would I do a thing like that? Twice?"

"I don't know, Ned. Would you take your best friend's doll and microwave it to see if it would really melt like it did on a TV show?"

"Is this what we're doing now, Abby?"

"I didn't start it," you reply, voice cold, eyes narrowed. "Now, if you can't come up with anything else, you could take her to the arcade, or a museum, or a movie. Not the amusement park. You understand me?"

"Okay, okay," he says, hands raised defensively. "It won't happen again."

You strum your fingers on the table for a moment in thought.

"So, Tracy," you start, awkwardly toying with your fingers, "let's talk about Jim a little. Is he getting used to you dating me?"

Tracy winces at that question, clearly signaling that the answer is no. "He-" she pauses, slinking back in her chair and avoiding eye contact. "He isn't. He doesn't like it, he doesn't want to think about it, he doesn't want to hear about it. It's, um, it's not very fun, but it kind of works out okay, since we just avoid mentioning you."

"He sounds a little..." you pause as if searching for the word, "possessive?"

"No, no," she says, raising her hands defensively. "No, he's just worried about me. I mean, it's not always easy to be gay, you know, so he doesn't want me to have a tough life, and he thinks you're responsible, kind of." She sighs and slinks back again. "I wish I'd figured it out and told him about me being gay before telling him about you. This would be so much easier."

>"If he's done anything to hurt you, you should tell me, Tracy."

She looks a little lost for a moment. "Well, I mostly know him from how he interacts with me, which I know isn't how he interacts with other people... and definitely not with you. He keeps grudges for a long time." She pauses. "He's kind of a simple guy. His..." she pauses, and now looks a bit guilty, "his work, I think, has made him think in a very hierarchical way. He has to get an idea of where you are on the totem pole."

"So you think I should show strength? Show off that I'm more powerful than him?"

She works her lips for a second, uncertainly. "K-kind of the opposite. I mean, if you were more powerful than him, that would be one thing, but Jim..." she trails off, searching for the words. "Jim's management in a large organization. It's probably better to bow and scrape your head a little, to try to show that you respect him."

>>30258176
I should probably explain a bit on this point. You do have Intelligence 3, after all.

Jim has physical power, yes, but more importantly, he has social power, which is what Tracy is getting at. He has people who follow his commands. He is part of a large organization.

Abby's physical power, as a Knight Incubator, is through the roof, and probably greater than Jim's social power as management in a criminal organization. However, just proving to be physically stronger than Jim is very, very different from revealing your full strength, which would amount to breaking the "masquerade." If you arm wrestle or race or whatever and win, he's not going to really think of that as making you more powerful than him. After all, running fast or being strong doesn't normally make you bulletproof.

Social power as in status/organizational value, not as in charisma or people skills.

"He sent some guys to beat me up, and you want me to put myself in a subservient position to him? That's not an appealing idea, Tracy."

Tracy cringes a little, like she half-expects you to stomp off, or hit her, or something. "W-well, that's why I want you to do that! I don't want you to get beat up, and if he thinks you're 'in line,' he'll be less likely to try something again."

"Didn't we go talk to him? Didn't you tell him not to do anything? Do you not trust him?"

She looks down at her lap. "I- I dunno. I didn't think he'd send guys after you in the first place..."

Not really, because on its own it's an isolated incident, when he was presumably not in full mind from shock/rage, which you wouldn't expect Tracy to believe would repeat. Besides, Abby handled it well anyway, he'd have to step up his craziness to actually threaten her.

Tracy has no reason to believe this from the initial goon-gang on its own, unless she knows he does worse shit.
>>
>>30259430
Nah, the events with the goons went very similarly. You beat them up with little permanent damage and scared them off. You may even have done pretty much the exact same stuff, just rougher, since the eyeball thing is something Abby already knew.
>>
>>30259524
the shock maybe, but the rage will be renewed, maybe even worse.

You can hear your Cambion mentally snort in derision, but you ignore it and carry on. "You're one of the nicest people I know. If you're close to him, he can't be that bad. Right?"

"I guess," she says. "It might just have been a, you know, a lapse or something. He was really emotional when I mentioned you to him."

You change the subject to other, lighter topics, and spend the rest of the lunch period discussing nothing much in particular.

English is dull as shit. After English, there's Math, where Richard practically mocks you with his superhuman intelligence. It makes you a little sore that he gets to just win every battle of wits like this because he got the magical lottery, though at least you know he's kind of cheating. Then comes Science, where you are blessedly free from Richard's superior intellect.

And your day is free.

Knight Incubators don't have enhanced senses. The following Incubator types have sensory elements:

Ballista - tactile ESP to allow them to find things to pick up.
Chariot - enhanced sight to allow them to see things before they run into them
Monarch - ability to detect nervous systems inside their range, basically.
Scholar - general improved information processing.

Exiles, Healers, Knights and Marshals all have normal sensory abilities. Well, Healers have a sensory ability, but it's touch based so it kinda sucks.

The two of you play co-op for hours. It's nice, the small verbal exchanges, working together to accomplish a goal, the enjoyment. Familiar. It's been a while since you really just sat down to just hang around with Ned, and you have to admit, you've missed it. It's not meaningful, or really objectively important, but it's something you haven't gotten to enjoy in a while. None of the nerves of spending time with Tracy.

"Dinner time!" Ned's father calls out from downstairs. You head down first, Ned staying behind to pause and save the game.

When you get downstairs, you stumble face to face with Ned's father.

"Wow," he says, blinking for a moment. "When did you get so pretty, Abby?"

>Roll your eyes and sit down at the table.
>"Are you flirting with me, Mr. Walker?"
>"I've always been pretty, you're only noticing now."
>"Okay, too weird, Mr. Walker."
>Write-in.

Hardly vain, more like shooting down his flirting without things getting awkward.

Good point.

"That implies that there was a time I wasn't incredibly pretty," you reply primly before finding a seat at the table.

"Well, as I recall, once upon a time you were a little baby..."

"A very pretty baby, I'm sure. So what are we eating?"

"Oh, just some spaghetti," he says. "Though you weren't as pretty as a baby as you are right now."

"Keep it up, and I'm going to think you're saying I was an ugly baby."

Ned comes down then. "What are you two talking about?"

>"Your dad says that I was an ugly baby. My counter-claim is that I was an incredibly pretty baby."
>"Nothing much, just discussing what I was like as a baby.
>Let Mr. Walker explain.

Mr. Walker is sounding pretty desperate....

We must set the record straight.

He's creeping me out a bit, but lets play it low. No need to make things awkward with Ned's dad
>>
"Your dad says that I was an ugly baby. My counter-claim is that I was an incredibly pretty baby."

"I didn't say you were an ugly baby," Ned's father says, rolling his eyes before going over to collect everyone's plates. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say that you are intentionally misinterpreting what I was saying."

Ned looks at the two of you suspiciously, but apparently decides to just let it slide. "Oookay, whatever. Spaghetti, again, Dad?" There's a small note of disbelief in his voice as he sits down.

"Hey, it's easy to make, it tastes good, and I'm old enough I get to eat whatever I like, and I like spaghetti."

"You eat this often, Ned?"

"Feels like every day," he replies. Ned and his father reach across the table to hold hands and bow their heads.

Oh, right, prayer. That's something you would probably do if you were a newly minted religious convert having a family dinner.

>Just wait patiently.
>Join in.
>Fuck manners, eat.
>Write-in.

What to talk about during dinner?
>Just whatever.
>Ned's social life.
>Your social life.
>Write-in.

Be polite, plus knowing prayers might help us with healer girl

>Talk about just whatever, but bring up Tracy at least once, for the purpose of letting Ned's dad know we swing for sisters.
>>
>>30263148
>Just wait patiently.
>Ned's social life.

Get in a bit of ribbing about his girl, don't go to far with it though.
>>

I'll second the throwing Tracy in casually, should get him to back off.
>>
You decide to be polite and sit there, a little awkward, as they go through a prayer.

"To the Goddess who has given us life, who has kept us alive, and who will one day take us into our next lives, we give thanks for this minor miracle. Where once we were hungry, now we are fed...." it goes on in that vein for a couple minutes.

At last, they finish, and you start to dig into the meal.

You rib Ned about his girl. "Ned here has been out on a couple dates with this girl, Veronica. Apparently he really sucks at coming up with ideas for dates, though, since he stole my idea for one. It was really awkward when I was out on a date with Tracy and all of the sudden, there's Ned, clearly plagiarizing me."

Ned fidgets in his seat, but his father doesn't seem to react to the fact that you have a girlfriend at all. That was flirting earlier, wasn't it? Does he figure you're probably bi, or it's just a phase, or something? Does he just not care?

Fucking adults are so weird.

Talk about anything else of importance during the meal?
>No. [Timeskip]
>Yes. [Write-in]

>No. [Timeskip]
Not really...

No

You spend the rest of the meal chatting about nothing in particular. Ned, you, and his dad all load up in the car. You and Ned spend the drive talking about video games some more, you giving him a few tips that you figured out. Eventually, though, the trip comes to an end, and his father drops you off in front of your house.

>THREAD END

Sorry for cutting it a bit short here, but I'm just not feeling up to another hour of QMing today.

Was today's thread okay? Anything I messed up on? I'm feeling very uncertain about it, and I'd like either advice (if I did mess up) or reassurance (if I didn't). Preferably advice.

Thanks for running! Seemed fine to me, interacting with people constantly helps.

Thanks for running, I enjoyed it as always! As for advice, it seems to me that your social scenes seem to drag on a bit. Players usually like choice, but in these cases I think you might have given us a bit too much choice. If the general attitude is that we just wanna hang out with Ned for fun and to maintain our friendship, you can assume any choices you'd give us would follow that trend and just power through the scene. Just my opinion, other anons might disagree.
