Welcome back to another exciting episode of whatever the hell this is called.
So far this has happened: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/30142875/
But for all you lazy faggots who don’t want to read through this, here is a short recap: You are a small expedition sent by MinCorp, a huge, faceless, interstellar corporation (for the whole family) on a class c asteroid you decided to name Chiron. Although the Board of MinCorp had its doubts about this mission, and only reluctantly funded it, they agreed to grant you some resources for your expedition. After first troubles of showing any profit whatsoever (thank you Herbert (R.I.P) ) you finally made progress and offered some unknown Crystal to the support carrier of MinCorp. They promptly demanded a steady supply of at least 4 units of Crystal per month.
Should you mine any more than that, it is up to you to decide what to do with it. Save it, sell it, smelt it, do whatever you please.
This time:
The elevator you had Sally build is finished, but you have neither a warehouse nor processing facilities to elevate your goods to. Sally is quite satisfied with her good work, but she is also exhausted from being the only engineer and having to do everything on her own. You should keep an eye on that.
At this moment, your energy supply is enough to fully support all your facilities but you will get into trouble if you expand your base any more.
Day: 68
>Resources: 16
>Current pop: 7 (1 Engineer, 2 Mineralogists, 1 Expedition leader, 2 Mercenaries, 1 Botanist)
>Rations 25 (Max pop: 6)

Some rules / information: We do what the popular vote demands, but you will have to roll (1d100) for important events / building facilities.
Every Person needs 1 ration per week. Currently you produce 2 per week on your own.
The Freighter “Red Walruss“ is scheduled to arrive every month. (next one at day 92)

Now: Tell me what you want to do / build next, you have two actions per turn.
>>
>>30232212
sorry for the terrible formating by the way.
>>
Rolled 72

>>30232212
Nice, just arrived at /tg/ and this is just starting

>Build Warehouse
So at least we can store the crystals

I'd also say that we save and study whatever excess crystal we might mine, even if it's just to potentially make up for a month that gives out less
>>
>>30232212
What are those supply crates doing outside our base? Apart from the killer slug one.
>>
>>30232272
They are the crates the resources get delivered to you by mincorp.

>>30232258
thats a ballin idea, if only you had a laboratory to study them
>>
Rolled 53

>>30232286
Build a lab, put the remaining mineralogist there to study shit.
>>
>>30232286
We can store them meanwhile, plus a warehouse doesn't use up as much power as running a lab, we can store the crystals while we increase our energy to support the lab.. I'd think.

Question: What's the green plume to the right of the turret?
>>
Rolled 61

>>30232300
Also, get the new supplies I guess?
>>
Rolled 3

>>30232300
Also, get the new supplies I guess?
>>
>>30232306
The warehouse wouldn't use that much energy, you're right.
Where would you put it though?

That would be the exhaust of the recycling facility.
>>
>>30232308
We already picked them up, the crates should be empty
>>
>>30232306
Refuse being pumped out I'd imagine.
>>
>>30232258
Move the second mercenary outside or into the caverns. It's doing fuckall inside the botany.
>>
We need need to improve our food production. We will run out off food before next shipment arrives.
>>
>>30232212
Build a second botany. Air and food is something you can never get too much of.
>>
>>30232323
Hmm.. I suppose above the crane would be silly..

>>30232344
Well, there's always a chance some will die..
>>
>>30232335
How about sending him to explore the left tunnel?
>>
>>30232370
I'd rather have him explore further to the right. It'd be easier having the first as back-up and the slug dug down on the left side of the base.
>>
>>30232358
>Well, there's always a chance some will die..

someone will definitely die if we don't get our food production up
>>
>>30232383
Guys, dont be insensitive. Rute's a girl

>>
>>30232344
>>30232352
>>30232388

I suppose you're right, I'll change to expanding or building another Hydroponic Bay or Botany Bay
>>
OP,

how much crystal can we mine per week at the current rate?
How many units is the small deposit we found worth?
>>
Rolled 27

>>30232402
by the by, how much power is going to be used for the UV lighting?
>>
>>30232402
>>30232407
Botany it is.
Also Rute is going down the tunnel, you can decide where she goes later.

>>30232424
As you have nowhere to store it, it is currently impossible to mine more than one.
The small deposit above the ice is estimated to be worth 3 units of crystal.
>>
>>30232439
I'm voting to have the crystal studied when we can. Could be useful even without sending it off.

How much extra water and power do we have, in case of electrical failure?
>>
>>30232439
So to meet MinCorp demands, we have to get all out, and find more. And somewhere to store it. Would it be possible to make the warehouse to the left of the elevator/crane ?

Sally is really slaving away for you, but she started to build the botany. (Resources -3)
Rute is excited to go down the tunnel on her first real mission. The fool
Peter still has nothing to do and his mining vehicle is standing around, gathering space-dust.
Lev has also found himself forced to stop mining, because there is nowhere to store it.
>>

>>30232502
Instead of standing around doing nothing, the dudes near the ice should explore a bit to the right.
>>
>>30232502

Peter is now in the tunnel and started to gather the splish-splashy ice. Weirdly it seems like there is actual liquid water underneath the ice. Weird.
To be completely honest, he is a little freaked out by that.
Sally completed the structure of the botanics lab (resources -2) but you have nowhere near enough energy to turn on a single lightswitch inside there.
Rute is standing in front of the tunnel to the left now, while lev and Archibald went a little bit further to the right.
>>
Rolled 88

>>30232710
Have one of the miners clear space for rooms and solar panels.

Give Sally a damn break.

Guess noone else is free to explore the left?
>>
>>30232748
Rute is free. Sally is taking a break, she will be able to buidl rooms next time, but there will be a two day delay before it happens and she will eat a ration more.
>>
Rolled 96

>>30232757
Sally is needed for a solar panel build? If not, create two.
>>
Rolled 94

>>30232757
Have Rute build cover/roads to use. I'm a bit leery at sending someone who can't identify precious minerals.
>>
>>30232710
Lets stop mining into whatever liquid water we are drilling into while we are at it, having an expensive mining machine fall down into god knows where seems like a bad idea.
>>
>>30232831
We need a Chemist and/or Biologist to examine that water. And we need a lab for our eventual comrades to do that in.

Aye, sound idea.
>>
>>30232710
There's probably lava in the heart of this asteroid.
We should funnel down a pipe so we can pump it up at high speeds when the space hippies come.
>>
>>30232902
So, Peter and Rute move to the left to see what lurks there, while Sally takes a well deserved break and Lev analyses the water?
>>
Commence construction on a pipeline for water so we can commence focusing our mining efforts on minerals instead of hauling ice in the elevator.

Also, we should construct some sort of gym/training area so that we can teach our people some basic self defense.

After two days of pouting and eating, Sally grumpily started building a new solar panel, but she takes her time with it. Working outside of the base all on her own really took its toll on her. (Food – 1 additionally)
Peter, scared of the liquid water, stopped mining down and concentrated on gathering the ice above.
Archibald stumbles further into the tunnel. You suspect he might have changed the water supply in his suit to some alcoholic beverage. But he reaches the end of the small ice field.
Lev is surfacing again to make room for new building sites.
Your crew grows increasingly worried that you won’t be able to meet the demands of MinCorp in 13 days.
>>
>>30233054

Can we put up a little flag? Raise the crew's morale a bit.
>>
Rolled 96

>>30233054
Guess we have to step it up then. Explore both directions with the mercenaries. Let them call Peter if they find something.

If there's no room to hold the water, get started on a bridge across the ice lake, big enough for the mining vehicle.

Lev can make a rudimentary storage room by himself, right? It can be unpowered, while the solar panel's being done.
>>
>>30233054
Well, looks like we will need to get to working on that storage area fast, then get the two miners down to collect the crystal. Or hope the walrus will get delayed or something along those lines.

>>30233066
MinCorp provides.
>>
>>30233103
>>30233054
wait, does the ice lake end in a cliff?
>>
MC wants some green crystals?
Lets mine some green crystals.
If we go ahead with those pipes, maybe Sally will be happier working in the shaft with the miners.
>>

Holy shit holy shit holy shit!
This is continuing! I missed episode two.
I'm having trouble containing my excitement. I love you OP.

As far as I am concerned there is no reason why we can't pile them up outside.

Sally finished the construction of the solar panel, and immediately went back to the lounge. The energy is sufficient to run the second botany lab, but it has not shown results yet.

Lev has created a small shielded area where he stored the crates and the first pile of crystal. Peter started mining Crystal again, now that you have room to put it. But he is worried something might happen to them if they just lay around on the outside.

Rute went further into the tunnel to the left.

Archibald further into the tunnel to the right, where even his boozed up mind could feel that something wasn’t right. Even through the constant temperature of his Combat-Suit, a chill runs down his spine.

Rute and Archibald go after the creature, but they can’t catch up and it disappears into the darkness.
Rute blames Archibalds wobbliness but secretly she is glad to stay near the defensive position and wants to retreat back to it.

Peter stopped mining because what little crystal is left in the vein is hardly worth drilling into.
Lev joins his comrade but there is no more crystal left to be mined.

Sally went to spend some time in the lounge, where Martha keeps her company.

The lab can also double as a defensible fort.

Peter should go left, with Rute, while Lev goes right with Archibald.
>>
>>30233939

Let's get Peter and the two mooks to go into the creature's tunnel slowly. I bet we can find lots of crystals down there.
>>
>>30233959
Sounds risky but I don't think there are many alternatives.

Unless the tunnel on the left has something valuable.

...We should also prepare for the possibility that the tunnel on the left has more aliens and by chasing the big bug to the right tunnel all those miners and soldiers are going to get surrounded and have their escape route cut of...

Not yet, we need a secure fallback position first in case of flooding and/or aliums. For now, we should instead concentrate on securing the bottom of the shaft and increasing food production.
>>
>>30234193

well at least we should store our surplus cristals to fill the next month quota.
building a blast door where the alien came from wouldnt hurt too

can we transfer the turret to the tunnel?
>>
>>30234193
Hell, for that matter, the other direction needs exploring, might be more crystals that way.
>>
>>30234214

Both sides, you never know what the fuck might happen. That way we can pressurize to the bottom of the shaft, and leave the vehicles down there and build a motor pool around them. It'll also make further construction easier, since we might able to make crash-bunks down there for time-sensitive work.
>>
>>30234220

>Beg the space-based megacorp who dumped a bioweapon on us for workers comp

YEAH, THAT'LL WORK.

Plan for the worst, besides, right now we only really NEED a single set of blast doors on each side, we can make a proper airlock and other stuff later.
>>
>>30234157
let her rest.

Can we make a spot-light which can light up the tunnels far in distance?
>>
>>30234231

yeah but the controls to the doors should be on our comand center in case of flooding, and there should be a third door preventing whatever is down there from entering our station
>>
I think we should plant some explosive charges around the bottom of the main shaft.

That way if the underground is ever overrun we can just blow it shut.

Sally spends a lot of time in the lounge, reading Sci-Fi horror stories, that have surprisingly little Sci-fi-Horror in them but a lot of romance. She calms down a lot.

You heare a voice over the intercome “Greetings, you’re still here. Must’ve been lucky”. Shortly afterwards your screen flickers and presents a visibly exhausted Captain Boris. “Anyway, this will be our last shipment, and we’ll make it fast, I can’t be dealing with this bloody sector anymore” Without waiting for you to ask him what was wrong he continues: “The whole damn sector is filled with pirates, next time MinCorp will send a different ship. Armed one I guess. But they won’t have a whole lot of space for your supplies so get ready for some cutbacks.”
You arrange for the exchange of Crystal (-4), and let the Captain know that you have a little bit more. He offers you 1 unit of resources for 1 unit of Crystals.

He also has some personell for you to hire: (You can pick up to two)
Dr. Leopold Grunting(Psychologist)
Paroli Cefrin (Engineer)
Dr. Bernhard Shraf (Doctor)
Prof. Lea Rant (Xenobiologist)
Heinrich Kraut (Mechanic)

And some goods (You can pick one):

The Captain of the Walruss sends down two new Crewmembers. The young and enthusiastic Paroli Cefrin comes running through the airlock and hugs you instantly. She seems like a nice girl you think, after she kisses you on the cheek. Maybe a bit naïve.

Behind her, Prof. Rant slowly walks through. His eyes are shielded from the artificial light by dark sunglasses. As you extend your hand towards him, he ignores you and simply asks, with a slight accent, “where is my sleeping compartment?”.
You show them around, Paroli Cefrin seems impressed with your progress. Prof Rant decided to stay in the quarters with the reasoning that is was to early in the day to do something productive.

Before the Walruss departs again, you ask the Captain to take a look at some blood samples you sent up. He promises to deliver them to the nearest laboratory and states that his freighter is not properly equipped for analysis with the reasoning that it was just a freighter. He says he will do his best to deliver you the results, but seeing as he probably won’t come back here, you somehow doubt that.

Paroli immediately begins constructing the ant farm with the help of Sally.
They are making incredible progress because they had most of the parts from the freighter and Sally seems to be enjoying work for once. Paroli is enjoying it as well, but that seems to be the case with everything she does. ( -1 resource)

However, after finishing the ant farm and trying to make it run, you notice major energy fluctuations and have to press the emergency-shut-off-button. Good thing you had that one.

You won’t be able to run it, if you don’t get more energy.

Meanwhile your miners are steadily hauling Crystal (+1). Your Mercs are on guard, but are slowly getting tired of it.

Have the mercs start rotating guard shifts, and build another solar panel.

Have our xenobiologist do what work he can on the alien blood and the proteins in the water.
>>
>>30235038
Get mercs on rotation. Pull the turret into the tunnels where the barricades are.
Build another solar power
>>
Can anybody recommend a game that plays similarly to this? Like dwarf fortress/starbound crossed with XCOM or something.
>>
>>30235067
Rimworld comes close.
>>
>>30235038
Have our eager engineers build more solar panels

And yes, make shifts/rotations for the mercs
>>
>>30235067
Rimworld is pretty good

Here's a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgWcy7KJcxo
>>
Could we use the flow of the water being recycled to produce energy via waterwheel?
>>
>>30235038
More solar panels. We need more power to run the ant farm and we need it fast incase the ants die unless the farm isn't activated soon.
>>
>>30235082
Also, do we have a way of storing excess energy so it doesn't go to waste? We need to find a better way to make electricity then solar panels everywhere.
>>
>>30235084
Oh shit, you're right.
Actually, we should redirect power from somewhere else to ant farm till we build new solars
>>
>>30235115
you havent

>>30235082
thats getting pumped artificially itself
>>
>>30235129
Well, then I would suggest making a battery of some sort to do that.
>>
>>30235077
This. Rotating shifts for the guards, but keep the other one close at hand in case shit goes down.

Maybe we could see if there's a spring under the ice? Fat chance, since it's an asteroid, but hey, can't hurt, right?

Or can it?
>>
>>30235038

Jesus, can we build a better power generator with the resources we have? A small cold fusion reactor.
>>
>>30235160
that sounds both difficult and expensive
>>
Hey, hey, I had an idea. Instead of having more fuckhuge solar arrays taking up space on the surface, could we maybe just take the flat photovoltaic panels and layer the roofs of our structures? Maybe find a hillside that faces the sun most often and just put a bank of them to soak up the rays?
>>
>>30235168

Its the future! If not that something that could generate more power than the solar panels. If we keep doing what we are going most of the surface of the asteroid will be solar panels and we still will not get enough power.
>>
>>30235187
You have no idea how complex power stations are, do you

As Paroli cheerfully begins construction of the new solar panels, she notices that the ones you set up until now are in pretty bad shape. The constant exposure to space-winds and other space-hazards really took their toll on them.
For now, they are working though.

While Rute guards the Miners, Archibald is spending some time in the lounge. He would have been fine with guard duty if the bar in the lounge wasn’t screwed to the floor.

Upon hearing the News, Lev suggests looking for stone that contains Carbon in high quantities. (Anorganic). Which would work for a power plant.
>>
>>30235193

No, but I am asking if there is a better option than solar panels to provide us with more power. I think we should explore better alternatives so that we don't have to be constantly building new panels.
>>
>>30235187
Cold fusion is impossible isnt it?
>>
>>30235211
you're tired of doing this, and attempting to kill off the station, I can tell
>>
>>30235211
Nooo, it is back!
>>
>>30235193
Strewth. Power stations on the scale of even a small cold fusion reactor are WAY outside our resource range. Even IF we had the resources to even build the damn thing, we'd need technicians for maintaining function, and engineers who know how to fix it. It would require a great deal of funding from MinCorp, and I honestly don't see them throwing that kind of money at a just-barely-made-quota dead rock.

This seems good, this seems very good.

Although the character models look like they're ripped straight from an early 2000s flash game.

Set an IED by the wall where the bug came from
>>
>>30235230
Technically, they're ripping off another game called prison architect for now. But the makers of Rimworld claim that it's only temporary.

Call for Archibald back asap

Rolled 93

>>30235211

call Archi
>>
>>30235211
So... We coal miners now?
And why not make an outpost room down in the mines so that the mercs don't have to stray too far?
Also, repair thos panels
>>
>>30235242
And the bum xenobiologist too, see what he has to say
>>
>>30235211
Archibald to the mineshaft, on the double!

Maybe we can set up some small shield generators to protect the solar panels. Nothing too power-intensive, but just enough to "break the wind," so to speak.
>>
>>30235250
Ooh, yes, this too. Or hell, maybe even just a sealable ladder-shaft from the corridor in front of that... storeroom? Is that a storeroom down on the bottom right?
>>
>>30235211
Okay, thats all folks! Was major fun with you, but the writer gotta go! hope you liked it and follow me on https://twitter.com/MinCorpPixel!

Somebody benevolent please archive this thread please and thank you.

We had a blast and I hope you did too

OP obviously doesn't speak english as a first language, or is really really tired
notice how he uses GMT? Obviously a europoor

bet that tree was some magic power source like that one anime form the 90s

one guy writes, one guy draws. Drawing takes up a lot of time, so I colaborate with another guy who writes it down and sends the shit.

Last time it was a different dude, which explains the crass difference in style. But today was the main guy.

I'm confused, the 'main guy' is the writer or the drawer?
>>
>>30235418
Today was the main writer. The writer who does it normally
>>
>>30235442
And the setting was created by you both? Or you're making this up as you go?
>>
>>30235449
I make up most of the shit, but we throw ideas at each other during the course of it. A lot of it is from him as well

Can I get a clarification on what we can trade crystal for? Is it the Resource resource, or any non-specialised resource like food, water, or construction resources?
>>
>>30235695
Mincorp wants 3 crystal a month from you.

You can sell it for 1 resource per unit of crystal. (resourse is the currency)

You can also see what you can do with it on your own.
>>
>>30235713

So we could trade resource for food, then?
>>
>>30235713
Itll probably be an upgrade to our solar panels or be used to store energy
or lasers
>>
>>30235733
nope. the freighters dont carry excess food with them, they have set amounts for the different stations they visit.
>>
>>30235211

What are those eyes in the caves down below? That gives me the creeps...
>>
>>30235747

Why wouldn't they have extra food? One would think that isolated colonies would love to buy some extra just in case.
>>
>>30235756

by the way, when do you think the next thread will be?

>>30235826
Sounds good! Just found this thread, and we have liquid water on the asteroid right?

How much energy can we get from cracking it and burning the hydrogen produced? Seems like a proper alternative?

Also we need to get SOME kind of lab up and running even if we didn't get the parts for one. Place with air-tight containment chambers and an examining table and some cameras and computers.
>>
>>30236115
i hope youre following on twitter in case shit goes wrong with scheduling.

And keep your ideas for the next thread, young lad!
>>
>>30236115
2H2O -electrolysis-> 2H2 + O2
2H2 + O2 -combustion-> 2H2O

Not a lot of room for energy production there, son. Can tell you're not a chemist...
>>
>>30236128
alrighty. Hopefully I can be here for it. I love these games, and it's rare to find them.
>>
>>30236201
Hydrogen powered cars?

also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_splitting
>>
>>30236202
Me too, glad more stuff like this is turning up. Not a fan of the run-of-the-mill nationbuilders myself.
>>
>>30236241
thats more a conversion of energy than a production
>>
>>30236241
water splitting wasn't what I meant to link, was specifically trying to point at the photocatalytic portion. Apologies.
>>
>>30236241
That doesn't make water some mystical fuel you can just 'get' energy from, son. You still need to input energy into the system to split it in the first place - more than you could possibly get out of the hydrogen by burning it.
>>
>>30236296
Even still, it's more than we have. and Hydrogen Cells are energy production. We crack the water we have for hydrogen, put it through a hydrogen cell, get water back out from it. Boom. We have a renewable cycle. Not perfect by any means, but workable.
>>
>>30236314
You don't think that in future fuel terms that hydrogen cells are more efficient now?
>>
>>30236320
I'm not sure if you're trolling at this point, but that doesn't 'produce' energy. Inevitable inefficiencies would mean a net los-

Wait, do you mean using this a 'battery' type thing? That's really not very clear.
>>
>>30236352
I'm not sure what I'm refering to here. I thought I did at the beginning and now I'm not so sure.

Give me a bit to actually read this over again. I've not mucked about with fuel cells since a kit I was given as a birthday present when I was 14.
>>
>>30236374
okay, so a fuel cell is basically a kind of battery, only unlike a normal battery which contains the chemicals inside of itself and those chemicals eventually run out after they've all reacted with one another, a fuel cell can be provided a constant flow of the reactive chemicals?

Am I getting that about right?

That's what I'm going for.
