Tanoomba, Yelmont and Blueford Toad have set off for Toad Town in the stolen library truck, on a mission to save Yoshi's Island. Meanwhile, Leo and company are drawing nearer to the final battle against Peach's Kingdom.

Whose story will you follow first?

You sit in the passenger's side of the cab, silently staring out the window as Yelmont drives. In the back, the thing that was once Blueford makes some horrible belching noises that could be breathing, but you have no way to know.

The dense foliage of Wiggler Woods clears out, and you stare down at the paved road. The gates of Toad Town draw near in front of you. "We're here," announces Yelmont in his quiet, scratchy voice. He drums the steering wheel with his fingers as he pulls up to the gate. At the gate is a little box covered in brown flags with mushroom motifs upon them.

The blue-spotted Toad in the welcoming box greets him with a chirp. "Welcome to Toad Town, capital of the Toadsworth Consulate! Do you have any declarations to make?"

Yelmont looks down at him from the cab. "Yeah, this is, uh, commanding Sergeants Yelmont and Blueford Toad returning from a scouting mission on Yoshi's... wait, the Toadsworth Consulate?"

"That's absolutely correct, Sergeant." he returns solemnly. "The day before yesterday, we received a letter from Princess Peach describing how happy she is living with Bowser. We also got a letter from the fiend himself echoing her sentiments. She handed the power of rulership to Toadsworth, her most trusted advisor." The Toad perks up at a jarring rate. "Well, welcome to the Toadsworth Consulate! I recommend a rest at the Star Club inn, you look like you need it!"

"You don't know the half of it." Yelmont mutters, rolling the window up and pulling into town. "This smells fishy. Got anywhere specific you want to be dropped off, or do you want to stick with me and Blueford?"

>Drop me at the Bowser Embassy.
>Drop me at the Star Club inn.
>I'll stick with you. I got you into this mess.

>I'll stick with you. I got you into this mess.
Let's see this through.

I'm surprised Bowser has an embassy here, what with all the kidnappings & and attacks and whatnot.
>>
>>30198387

I want to check out this embassy.
>>
>>30198552

Makes me wonder why we didn't run in there instead of fleeing the town.
>>
>>30198552
"I'll stick with you. I got you into this, didn't I?" you ask.

Yelmont nods as he slowly drives through the streets. You take a look out your window, and begin to feel a little unease. All around, all the pink flags and Peach crowns are being replaced. You can see two members of the Royal Guard hanging up a Toadsworth banner. It's a plain, brown thing marked with a white circle in the center. Inside is a silhouette Toadsworth's familiar mustache and wooden cane, symbols of long-standing loyalty and truth throughout the entire Mushroom Kingdom.

Yelmont parks the truck outside the castle. Looking up, you can see a team of Toads reshingling the roof in brown.

You get out and walk up to the door.

"HALT!" shouts one of the guards. He points his spear right at you. "correct me if I'm wrong, but I have reason to believe that you are Tanoomba, escapee and fugitive of the Toad Town Maximum Security Prison!"

The second one joins his partner and points the spear at you. They're about to take you in when they double over in fright at the sight of Blueford ascending the stairs. Yelmont follows him, and gives both of the guards a polite nod.

"We've had a very long day, cadets. The criminal is an ally of mine, please ignore the current charges against him."

The Toads salute Yelmont and swing the doors open. The second one still shivers from Blueford's stare as you walk inside. Oddly, there are no tourists or personnel in sight.

Yelmont leads you up the stairs and down the hall into Toadsworth's office. He knocks on the door.

"Yes, come in please."

>"Alright, let's go in."
>"A-actually, I th-think it'd be best if I left..."
>>
>>30198864

>Let's go in
>>
>>30198864
INSIDE! NOW!
>>
>>30198987
"Well... let's go in."

Yelmont pushes the door open and you head inside. The interior of Toadsworth's office is walled and floored of fine varnished wood and furnished with high bookshelves. Toadsworth sits at his desk, rifling through a mountain of paper.

He pushes it aside to get a look at you and nearly falls back at the sight.

"Heavens, Yelmont! I thought you'd died on Yoshi's Island, who've you brought with you? Are you well?"

Yelmont pulls up a chair with a sigh. "It is a very, very long story."

>Explain
>Let Yelmont explain

>>30198387
Wait, Peach gave up her political power and Bowser agreed?
So that means Bowser wasn't trying to marry her to take over but actually liked her for her? That's cute.
Shame it's inevitably going to go to hell.
>>
>>30199312
Explain in tandem, giving our side, his side, and what we were told by Darryl.
>>
>>30199312

>Explain

"I'm the one who saved the planet, pal! If it weren't for me, you'd be shuffling around like a dumb skeleton, in your dumb skeleton Consulate!"
>>
>>30199365
You step forth to explain. "Good morning, Mr. Toadsworth," you bow, trying to sound official and humble. "Yelmont is right, it is a very long story. We're going to explain it as good as we can."

From there, you and Yelmont explain the tale of Darryl Bones, Donkey Kong, the Comet Observatory and Yoshi's Island. As you tell, Toadsworth sits with his hands crossed over his mustache. His brow is furrowed as he listens. Eventually, Yelmont lets out the last word.

Toadsworth sighs and removes his steamed-up glasses. "I say, that is quite an ordeal the three of you've been through. I am most concerned about you, Mr. Tanoomba. It seems that over the course of the last week, you've participated in a huge amount of horrible crime under this Darryl Bones fellow. However, your efforts to assist the Consulate's officials and your evident change of heart are enough to convince me that you have truly come out wiser."

Yelmont nods.

"However, my own trust cannot be solidified until you do one thing." He hefts a huge leather-bound tome onto his desk. "If you swear allegiance to Peach's Kingdom and the Toadsworth Consulate, we may continue. You will be forgiven of your crimes once we settle out this mess."

>Put your, uh... hand on the book and take the oath.
>Don't do it. You serve Bowser and Bowser only!
>>
>>30199588

Oh, no way! We're still with the Bowz. We just came because we wanted to fix Yoshi's Island somehow.
>>
>>30199588
Can I still serve under bowser? At least, when 'm not required by the Toadsworth Consulate?
>>
Maybe we can be an ambassador between the Toadsworth Consulate and Bowser's Country (dictatorship?)?
>>
>>30199746
"Can I still serve under Bowser? At least, when I'm not required by the Toadsworth Consulate?" you ask. Toadsworth shrugs.

"I suppose that since Her Majesty has made peace with Bowser, it would be fine, considering that our nations are not formally at war any longer."

You hesitantly move closer to the book and tap the edge with your foot. Toadsworth holds out a piece of paper with the oath written on it for you to read from.

"Under the guise of the Stars, I solemnly swear this day that every day forth, I shall bear loyalty to the Mushroom Kingdom and the Toadsworth Consulate, and all its allies."

Toadsworth grabs the book and pulls back the paper. "Excellent," he muses as he puts them back in his desk. "Now, about our Sergeants. According to olden Mushroom Kingdom traditions, you, as the person responsible for Yelmont and Blueford's ailments, are to choose their physician. We have three excellent medical and scientific minds right in Toad Town, whom I can call up at any moment. First, there is of course Professor E. Gadd, a leader in the occult. Second is our friend Dr. Toadley, Toad Town's leading medical doctor, and finally there is Toadbert, a scientific and historic advisor of the kingdom and a close personal friend of mine. Who do you feel would be most well-equipped to assist in taking care of the Yoshi's Island problem?"

"E. Gadd, of course!" you say. Toadsworth pulls out a desk drawer and places a brass rotary phone on his desk. The ring buzzes and clicks as he dials E. Gadd's number.

"Yes, hello? Ah, Elvin. This is Toadsworth, and I was calling to inform you that Yelmont and Blueford have returned with news on Yoshi's Island... and they're in quite a state. We would like your help, Elvin." His mustache twitches. "Thank you, Professor. Please hurry."

He hangs up and turns back to you. "Well, the Professor should be arriving shortly. Mr. Tanoomba, I was wondering something. The entirety of Peach's surrender to Bowser feels... rather curious to me. Could you perchance have King Bowser's personal phone number? I would like to speak to him."

"I'm a little bit worried about giving you Bowser's number, since he might fire me. In a REALLY bad way. However, his head adviser Kamek is always answering calls."

Toadsworth looks at you with a little bit of suspicion. "I suppose that's a legitimate concern. Well please, Mr. Tanoomba. Kamek's number."

You pull the phone up and put in Kamek's number. As Toadsworth holds the receiver to his face, you sit back down next to Yelmont.

You are Leonardo Koocaprio, and you're awaiting orders in the barracks. With a loud roar, Bowser summons you to his office.

You speed down the hall to his quarters and see him sitting at his golden desk. Sal is already in a chair in front of him as you take a seat. Kamek puts a finger in front of his mouth in a "be quiet" gesture. Bowser is holding Kamek's sparkly blue flip-phone up to his ear.

"His Magnificence is on the phone with Toadsworth. The old man is wondering about how Peach is doing."

You can hear Toadsworth's muffled voice through the speaker. His words are at first a formal greeting, then you can hear repeated mention of "her majesty".

"Now hold on, Toadsworth. I saved Peach fair and square. If I didn't show up when I did, she'd be married to Wario as we speak! You'd be the groom of the stool in the Wario Dictatorship!" Bowser growls.

Toadsworth's voice seems jagged and pointed. He makes claims of some ulterior plot on Bowser's part.

"MIND CONTROL? That's baloney, you old piece a' mold! I care about Peach, and she cares back!"

Kamek seems to shy away. He awkwardly breathes his collar at the mention of mind control. From the receiver, Toadsworth seems to have gone completely ballistic.

"Oh, you think you know BEST? PEACH IS MINE! I'M HER HUGGY-WUGGY, YOU DUSTY PIZZA TOPPING!" Bowser slams his hand on the desk. At this point, Toadsworth is yelling so loud that you can actually hear him.

"You could scarcely provide for her, you horrible brute!" he shouts.

Bowser stops for a moment, and then a horrible grin widens on his teeth. "Oh, so you're such a provider, huh? Want to put a wager on that?"

Toadsworth mutters something quietly, as if accepting a challenge.

"I mean that we have a fight. Just you and I. I decide the field of battle."

Toadsworth is silent for a moment. He mutters something with a pointed end, as if it were a question.

"If you win, I give you Peach. If I win, you can never contact me again, and you have to keep Mario and Luigi---if they're still alive---away from my castle forever."

There's a sigh from Toadsworth's side, followed by what sounds like begrudging acceptance.

Bowser hangs up and turns to you. "I need some way to take Toadsworth down a peg. A way to guarantee my victory."

"Your, um, Badness, you've got to consider that Toadsworth is an old guy. Wouldn't it be in bad taste to beat up an old guy? How do you think Peach would feel about that?"

Bowser puts a hand to his chin in thought. "That's right... I have to do something better. Any ideas?"

"Well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You've been racing karts for years, Your Stank-ness! You could run circles around Toadsworth, and still look cool doing it!"

Bowser smiles. "That's a good idea, actually... keep talking."

"Well, if we got not only Toadsworth, but a whole host of Mushroom Kingdom celebrities. Basically, it'd be a normal Grand Prix, but with the sole difference being that Peach's hand is on the line."

Bowser clasps his hands and grins. "Oh man, this is the best dang idea. Alright, Generals Guy and Koocaprio, you're dismissed."

Kamek shakes his head and ducks under your blocking hand. "I don't know what you're talking about, General. His Rottenness rescued Peach from a life of servitude to Wario, it's only natural that she be grateful."

You grab Kamek by the shoulder and make him face you. "If I march back in there and tell Bowser about how you're mind-controlling his girlfriend, I doubt he'll be happy to hear it."

In Bowser's office, you can hear him trash-talking Toadsworth over the phone. Kamek grumbles as he pulls you down the hall into Peach's room. Inside the Princess sits, and Kamek greets her with a smile.

"Dinner will be served soon, milady," he laughs as he pulls you into Peach's personal kitchen. Inside he pulls out some leftovers and waves his fingers to make them cook themselves.

"You drug her food with a potion to mind control her, right?" you ask.

He shrugs. "Something like that." As he lifts the salad bowl, he snaps his fingers. The lettuce jumps just the slightest bit, now hinted with a violet glow. Kamek hands it to Peach with a bow.

"Milady, tonight's main course is La Ensalada de Kamek, made with our finest tomatoes and lettuce. Bon appetit."
