The Hoover Skrelp's body fuses into one spinal back. Its long mouth easily catches algae on rocks making it a reliable food source. to make up for its lack of defenses the Hoover plants a hatching of 200+ eggs to ensure its continued survival. This fish is easy prey for other predators but it makes up for losses with its incredible birth rate

The Hoover Skrelp develops an elongated digestive system, in order to process the fibrous algae it consumes. Its tail also turns into a flexible fluke, like a sharks tail. With this new feature, the creature becomes more agile. A necessary trait, for it aids in escape from predators like the Aqlurz and the Behemoth genus.

The herbivorous aqlurz experiences a startling change. Due to a protein misplacement, specimens develop eyes in the back of the head, akin to the Earth reptile called "tuatara".
While this might be seen as a useless mutation, miraculously, these eyes come with nerves that, during development in the egg, grow and seek out the rudimentary brain stem.
This means that these are in fact functional eyes, and the herbivorous aqlurz can watch its own back.

One final post before I go get some sleep.

Due to the innately territorial nature of the Skrelp-descended Paddler species, they have started coming into dispute with the large Wading Durrds. The Wading Durrds, being an omnivorous species, feed on many of the floating mushrooms and low hanging plants, and are not above picking off young or sick Paddlers that it comes across.
Between the competition for the various breeds of floating Thungus, berries, as well as Paddler families being very tight-knit and territorial, these species come into direct competition.

The Paddlers take advantage of the Wadeing Durrds' terrible balance (due to their weak legs). A stronger more "muscular" (or whatever the Arigani equivalent is) trunk aids in this endeavor, sending the Wading Durrds tumbling over into the water to literally feed the fishes.

Another breed is born, with a different sort of fruit. This new fern carries the Lamfruit, a very crunchy fruit with red and purple striped skin, while the flesh beneath the surface is pink. At it heart, it contains a spiky pit that acts as the fern's seed. Its flesh has an extremely strong acidic taste.

While the Brayfruit is poisonous to any descendant of the Perch Burz, the Lamfruit is poisonous to any species derived from the Skrelp.

The predators at the water's edge have caused the shorelines to become rich in nutrients and relatively safe from herbivores. As a result the shores have become very dense in plantlife, and many of the grasses have become a accustomed to the shallow waters by floating baubles from the tips of their blades on the top of the water to take in oxygen.

The Perburz form a symbiotic relation ship with the land mushrooms, where the Perburz provide it with left over carcasses, and a way to move spores, in return the spores grown in to a natural armor and the mushroom serves as a home. Being large, the cold is extremely difficult to bear for the Wading Durrd and their cold hunting grounds at the shoreline has become iced over and hard to fish in.

For warmth these Striduurd burrow in the mangled roots of the Fruit Ferns and found themselves hunting terrestrial, like the Paddlers, more often. Using their long claws fas a weapon in addition to its stablizing properties.

Their bodies have changed to their new climate, with both of their toes now developing inside of a thick armored spine for better traction on the ice.

The vivid facial markings and the bright, sandy appearance of the male Fanburizo has led to it frequently being spotted and slaughtered in this great ice age. Only those who adopt typically feminine colouration survive.
Meanwhile, the female Fanburizo are forced to adopt the larger, more powerful claws and cranial plates of the males in order to battle against larger predators, as their vicious barbs prove useless for anything but catching tiny, unsatisfying prey creatures.

As a result, the two sexes of Fanburizo have adopted a unified appearance.

After the great impact the parasitic lines of the Felg have also experienced strong pressure. Those with the ability of host switching survived, but their specialized cousins did not. Some felg specialized to aerial hosts undergone neoteny, and their larval forms became free floating organisms of the aerial macroplankton, by hosting numerous symbiotic algae they survive by floating far above the clouds and basking in sunlight.

Other lines of parasitic felg loose their external adult forms, and stay inside the warmth and protecting bodies of their host. Using their behavioural manipulating abilities, it is no longer the question of making the host or bolder to get it eaten by a predator, but to ensure it's survival.

The ultimate omnivore, this earth-bound species of Falgo has adapted to the new climate and completely covered itself with scaly plating, both keeping it warm and protecting itself from predators. Wiggling along the floor, these worm-like creatures search for fallen fruit, half-eaten carcasses and even Thungus - swarms of them have been known to rip through Thungus groves in less than a day. They've even adapted their colouration to fit in with the icy climate.

Too different to be known as Falgo, these are known as Walgem, the omnivorous pest that swarms across the land even in the coldest weather.

To help with the cold some of the furry paddlers become more stockier there trunk is no longer, long and dexterous but shorter and more robust, as well there hind legs shrink as theres no point to keeping useless body parts warm.

Due to the cooling climate, suruds develop thicker "fur" coating that helps them protect themselves against the cold. When the weather cools down, these fuzzy suruds gather into their nests and pile up, vibrating their wing muscles rapidly in order to generate heat that is then trapped within their fluff. Even when out in the cold weather, the fuzz of the suruds helps them maintain enough bodyheat for relatively active hunting and foraging. This allows them to seek food even during the cold season, where they face less competition from their relatives.

During extremely cold times, the suruds will descend to a semi hibernation like state, where their activity slows down significantly, and they no longer leave their nest. They instead spend most of their time in sleep like state, relying on the insulating nest structure, their fuzz and the steady vibrations of their wings to keep them from freezing.

During warmer seasons, the excess fuzz is shed off, and used as construction material for their nests.

The Fanburizo that thrive in the cold weather are the warmest ones. Due to the meteor strike and overall decreased temperature, the only surviving strain of the primitive poison skrelp was forced to migrate into the volcanic vents in the deep waters. Their poison glands have been adapted as filters as well. This enables them to filter out nutrients from the billowing toxic gas from the vents via absorption through the skin. They have also taken on darker hues so as to blend in with the dark waters. They have also lost any need for their probocis and it has since shriveled to much shorter lengths. Larger eyes for more absorption for light have also been developed.

Their heads seem to be nothing but a solid shell, meaning they don't have jaws. Here's a solution to this problem: What appear to be teeth are actually the tips of finger-like mandibles that reach out of their mouths to tear off and pull in scraps of meat.

Possessed by some hitherto unknown urge, many of the True Paddlers begin stockpiling large quantities of Brayfruit in their Barges.
After some time doing this, the Paddlers push their boats out of the swamps and into the wider sea, paddling into the current and floating off towards warmer climes.
Will they make it? Is there such a place? We'll have to wait to find out.
Not all True Paddlers go on the migration, some remain behind to attempt to ride out this new Winter.

Since the jawed behemoths developed from shallow puddles of mud in the swamp, it was inevitable that a sub-species would branch off to live on land.

The first successful creature to do so developed sharp claws and an ultralight skeleton which allowed it to climb trees. It would use its large, hardened fins to make short glides down to the ground to tackle, capture, and eat its prey. Over time, also, its colorings shifted to act as camouflage - mostly for going on the attack.

Due to the harsh environment, these gliding behemoths spent nearly all of their energy simply existing; they had to spend most of their time killing, eating, or getting ready to kill or eat.

This here isn't a new adaptation. Just working something into the Tuatara Aqlurz life-cycle. They grow quickly, and die after laying hundreds of eggs in the mud under water. Their larval young feed on algae, may or may not enter a pupal stage, and then eat leafy plants when mature.

As the gliding behemoth is introduced to new prey, by being on land, so is the Parasitic Lurz. The Lurz develop a spitting mechanism, where they spit on the food inside of the behemoth's stomach, and suck up their fill of the liquid concoction. This stomach acid also helps break down possible toxins and poisons that the behemoth may swallow. making it safer to eat for both the Lurz and the Behemoth. The excess acids help the behemoth digest his food. This saves valuable energy and resources for the Behemoth.

The nocturnal clapper, or the nocter, has adapted to the fierce competition for food, with the cold seeping in and animals dying out, the nocter turns to scavenging as well as becoming leaner to chase any fast critters about, then catching them quicker thanks to their elongated neck. This extra weight is accounted for by reducing the back she'll, and with the hind legs moving up along the body.

Probably the one if the biggest evolutions yet is the hind claw, it enables the nocter extra grip on objects, from rocks to branches, and gives it an edge in pursuing prey. It also aids balance.

A mutant breed of Plum Lurkr has evolved, with more compact bodies and their heads incorporated directly in their rubbery blubbery centre. After the mountain fell upon Arigan and covered the world with a coat of dust, many more colourful breeds of Funnel Thungus stuck out like sore thumbs amongst the waste and were heartily consumed by the herbivores of this world. Although those colours still exist, this more muted and colourless breed has become the most common variant.

However, the thick dust came with its disadvantages. It tended to fill the Funnel Thungus to the brim, frequently choking them or causing them to collapse from the sheer weight. As a result, the more porous breeds of Funnel Thungus have risen to dominance, equipped with pores that exude inorganic material that the Thungus absorbs.

Making something that should have been done earlier.

The centers of the fronds of ferns that grew in the fully waterlogged, and often submerged soil along many shorelines become porous, allowing them to easily absorb needed gasses from the atmosphere. With the abundant water they grow in, loss of moisture is not a problem. The fronds grow more vertical, allowing them to reach above the water's surface.

It would be really cool if the creators of some of aliens in this thread could give us (or just me) some details on their aliens anatomy; internal organ placement, what kind of nervous systems, what their bones are made of etc.

All that I really know about are the bug-fish, Aqlurs. The front-halves of their bodies are insect-like. The rear half has a primitive backbone. Their probably both made of chitin or something like it. The ones that look more buglike have swim-bladders. The others don't.

The suruds posses relatively complex nervous system, that has localized mini "brains" composed of clusters of nerves, one within each 4 segments of the suruds body. The biggest nerve cluster is located in their head segment, and it is their primary brain, responsible for processing, all the information the keen senses of the surud receives.

Unlike earth insects, the suruds posses an active respiratory system, which they use to draw air into spiral like structures within their 2nd and 3th segments, that work as their lungs. They posses 4 of these spirals, 2 in both of their middle segments. These 2 middle sections both have a heart, that pumps blood across the body of the surud.
Their last segment, the abdomen, contains large portions of the gut of the surud (food is partially processed in both 2nd and 3rd segment, but only fully digested in the 4th), along with the reproductive organs, and various glands.

The main sense of the suruds is eyesight, which works in both visible light spectrum, as well as in the uv spectrum. The fur of the suruds, contains markings that are only visible in uv. These marks identify males from females mostly.
Their second most important sense is smell, which plays key part in their communication. Their antennae can detect both the scent of food, as well as communication pheromones from significant distances away.

Though the Suruds are not warm blooded, their body, especially their wing muscles, can produce significant amounts of heat, which their fur traps, allowing these creatures to survive in conditions where most cold blooded animals would perish.

With the Plum Lurkr rapidly outcompeting it in the water, the Fin Lurkr had to migrate onto the land. There, the web between its bony fins has gradually vanishes, giving it many spindly legs to scutter about amongst the bright fruits of the trees.

As evolution pushes the speedy durrds into even faster predators, they eventually almost completely lose their back legs, as their front claw limbs are all these hunters need for both catching prey, as well as for perching on plants. For these hunters do not walk, they spend most of their adult life flying, and seeking prey.
Their back legs have developed into sensory spines, that allow these creatures airflows, and winds better, and thus adjust their flight accordingly.

These durrds cope with the cold season, and it's general lack of prey, by hibernating during their larval form. The females use their claws and beak to bore small holes into the soft trunks of the ferns, where they then lay their eggs. They stuff these holes with paralyzed prey they catch, before sealing it of with a vax like excretion.
As the eggs hatch, the larval durrd feeds on the food provided by it's parent, until the cold season hits, during which they will undergo gradual metamorphosis into an adult speedy durrd, that will break its's way trough the vax seal when the warm season begins, in order to start the cycle anew. Usually, one of these burrows contains 10-40 eggs, and enough food to sustain the development of all of the young.

Female speedy durrds are bigger, than male ones, and they also live longer. The males usually only live for few weeks, during which they seek out females to mate with. After these few weeks, the males die off, leaving the now inseminated females to dig burrows, lay eggs, and hunt prey in preparation for the next generation. The females live trough the whole warm season, and only seal the burrow off near the end of their life.

With gradual meat eating aspect of the Capped Scrall increasing, the migration to the ground has formed a lesser need for climbing limbs, the tree hooks of the Capped Scrall have elongated and curved downward to kill prey and grip prey that stick themselves to their shells.

The armored shells and exoskeleton have become fused together into a singular shell that is present for the Scrall's life.

This ice age has definitely shaken up a lot of the evolutionary lines. I can hardly recognise some of them.

I suspect another big change is on the horizon, though. Probably when the atmosphere restabilises and we go back to warm and sunny. The poor behemoths are going to die out again due to their size.
