After sleeping late under your pile of straw mattresses to make up for your long night, you feed Mr. Clicks, raid the kitchens for some salted goat, and head for the dungeons.

The mad Charioteer has been taken away by his people, though possibly only so you'd stop nagging them about him. So Iltani is once again alone, sulking and scratching patterns onto the
floor with a chipped piece of brick. "I'm beginning to question the purpose of my stay here," she says. "I don't think I'm getting through to you as much as I hoped I would."

> "You're a prisoner here. You have no choice in the matter."
> "That's not true. I've learned from you... sort of... I guess..."
> Change the subject. "Who wants to go for a walk?"

We've certainly been more assertive since we started seeing her. But still. Walk time.
>>
>>30124774
Right on time, anu.
>Change the subject. "Who wants to go for a walk?"

we'll show her the super giant monster.
Also, we'll ask her what she would do if she wasn't staying here trying to get through to us.

this
>>
At some point, perhaps bring up the idea of her joining in with the sparring practice.
Only reason we got her locked up in the first place is because we are unsure of whether or not she'll hurt anyone, and she's been pretty darn obedient lately.

"That's not true. I've learned from you... sort of... I guess..."

"Well, I hope so. The humans here are all fools. They need a strong hand to control them. Or a strong claw. On their own they will not make themselves ready for Pazuzu..."

You sigh in exasperation. "Are you still going on about him?"

Iltani smiles. "You hardly ever come down here. But Pazuzu comes whenever I close my eyes."

You hear a small company of guards come down the stone ramp to escort you and Iltani on your walk.

They won't be needed.

We're used to guards by now. Though I'm mostly neutral towards this decision.

You intercept the guards to explain that they can go back to their posts. "It'll be just me and her this time. I can handle her, really. And if I can't, you guys wouldn't make much of a difference."

The guards depart, though you hear some of them mumble to each other that your affection for this madwoman is bad news, and perhaps you're going mad yourself.

We've also yet to secure that darn pardon.
>>30125138
screw it, just get a cloak or something for her so she doesn't cause a stir and go out into the city.
we're giving her a huge chance to get away here, but I'm gonna trust her on this one.
>>
>>30125202
Only sometimes. When the giant blight demon sits, it's usually completely obscured by the city walls.

>>30125240
We met Patience last time. She's a giant created by the Charioteers, with a Charioteer's head sticking out where her heart should be. She wants to kill the giant blight demon because she can sense something terrible inside it.
>>
>>30125240
She can smell evil or something like that. I figure she can help give us a read on Iltani so we can work out if it's curable.
>>
>>30125286
>She wants to kill the giant blight demon because she can sense something terrible inside it.

Well then, taking IItani to her seems like it could be a horrible mistake then, going to have to vote against.

> Take her out into the city, with something thrown over her as a disguise.
>>
>>30125319
She kind of seems to get out of control, it would likely be stronger than the Blight Demon with IItani
>>
>>30125319
That could be a good idea but I think it'll have to wait.

Didn't the giant say she was leaving for now, to get away from the blight demon because it gave her the willies?

She said she'd come back later when we can kill it.
>>
>>30125357
If that is the case we're going to find out sooner or later and it will be a lot easier for everyone if we find out sooner.
>>
We should inform her that we plan on fighting pazuzu, probably.
Not joining him or whatever her plan is.
>>
>>30125420
No need to get so hasty, anon.
We might as well keep all our options open.

You take Iltani up to the surface levels of the pyramid. She looks a little less spooky in the light of day rather than flickering torchlight, but the more natural light does bring out her unnatural black eyes and her not-quite-healthy-looking skin. You search for a cloak or something to throw over her. The first thing that comes to mind is your second-nicest dress. You try wrapping the long black train of it around her, and it looks more-or-less like a cloak.

From Dadanum and another guard stationed at the gates, you hear that Patience has gone south and has stakes out a little territory by the river just a little ways southwest of the city walls. She's been taking food and drink from the local traders and fishing boats through sheer intimidation, but so far she hasn't hurt anyone. You also hear that the Adventurers will be getting their big pardon fro the king today.

You notice that Dadanum is wearing a sash around his neck. Maybe he's hiding something.

"Nice sash!" you say to Dadanum. He looks flustered. "I was cold! I had the early morning shift, and I felt a little... no, really! Why are you looking at me like that?" You laugh and lead Iltani out the gates, confident that Dadanum is hiding an enormous sucker-bite on his neck.

You head north to the resting place of the giant blight demon. The common folk are staying well away from it, but a few men from every fighting school are watching it from a safe distance. "Well, Iltani? What do you think?" You ask her.

She tilts her head and lifts the flap of black linen shading her face, still not quite adjusted to the daylight. "It's... big! And someone's harnessed and saddled it? We could do something with that, couldn't we?"

"It's dangerous, but I suppose so. Do you, uh, sense anything unusual about it, though? Aside from its size?"

"Maybe... May I get closer?"

You stay next to her, trying to keep yourself between her and the Slingers who might recognize her. You have less fear for the Archers who are watching from an old ox-cart.

"You're asking me permission for things. I like that. It feels... nice. Just Just keep yourself hidden. If those Slingers see you, this is gonna get ugly."

Iltani keeps pace with you and rests a hand on your claw. "Yess... That feeling is your power settling within you. Hunzuu the orphan girl was never asked for things, never obeyed. But that's not you anymore. Now you're the beautiful savior of the city. You know... you always seem so ambivalent about your own loveliness. Maybe that's the same kind of thing. "Well, I do like being called pretty. Did you hear the king called me pretty?"

Iltani smirks and runs her hand up and down your claw. "He wouldn't know what do do with you if he had you. You're beyond him. Beyond any man..."

Now you're getting a little uncomfortable. You shake her off of your claw and use it to point to the reclining beast's shaggy, earthy hide. "Oh, hey, we're here! Tell me what you think! I think there's something important inside it."

Iltani lays a hand on it. "Well... I have little to compare this to. I never saw a blight demon up close before. When one would come around, the men would usually go out to scare it away. But it does seem..." When she closes her eyes, she suddenly shudders and grabs onto the matted fur. "Wow... it's like when Pazuzu visits me, but even stronger! I love it! May I have it? We could hiss even if we got our throat cut. Breathe too. Biggest problem would be blood getting to the brain. Work on that blood magic.

"This one is still confused, and, uh, very sensitive to sunlight. I should take it back to the pyramid."

The Slinger frowns and points his blade at Iltani. "There's something very odd about this. If I could just see-"

You interrupt him with a loud hiss that splits the air. That sets everyone into action at once. The Slinger with the knife runs out of the way, and all the others load their slings. The blight demon stands up with a resounding moan. You hear someone shout for reinforcements.

Iltani reaches for the blight demon. "Is it going away? Let me go! I'll go with it!"

> Sling Iltani over your shoulder and run for it
> Leave Iltani where she is and advance on the slingers. Maybe they'll be too scared to shoot at you

"No," you say to Iltani. You grab her and sling her over your shoulder. It's a little awkward to do when your claws are doing most of the work, but it's a very possessive gesture that lets Iltani know you mean business. You start to walk away. The blight demon roars at you, then at the Slingers.

"Is that... No, it couldn't be!" It sounds like someone might recognize Iltani. Also, Iltani is struggling against your grip a little, awkwardly kicking her legs. She seems enthralled by the blight demon.

Something called Pazuzu is coming to kill everyone, and she's the only one who knows anything about it! All right?! So I did it for you!"

One of the Slingers steps forward. "I know everyone is acting like they need monsters to defend themselves. And maybe it's even true. We probably would have been sacked by Turtak if it weren't for you. But where does that leave men? I'm a slinger because they stand up for the people. You keep secrets from the people. "This city needs people like you. I'm sorry; I should have told everyone that I was reforming her."

That seems to keep the young Slinger's temper in check. "So you've been trying to use her to help the city. All right. The secret's out. She wouldn't be the first criminal to be pardoned just because the city wants their power. But what were you doing with her out here?"

"She seems to have some kind of connection to this demon. I wanted to figure out what makes her so strong, and if we could share that strength with others without driving them mad."

The Slinger looks back at the demon through the wide gates. "Well, in a matter of hours, the Adventurers will receive a full pardon and the right to their old property, and we'll have permission to kill or banish this thing."

"Then will you let me bring Iltani back over to inspect it? While there's still time?"

The Slinger looks up a nearby street. "Do as you please. I'm going back to the barracks to spread the word about you and Iltani."

Let her inspect it but keep a hand or claw on her at all times. We don't need her doing something crazy with this thing and attacking the city.

If we can somehow figure out a way to use this beast, even if it's just a suicide attack on something, then all of this stupidity will be worth it. On an unrelated note, we probably should do a tour of the various barracks with Iltani to show she's under our control. If we have to 'stress' how important is is for her to behave to her, then so be it.

"Well, go on. You can enjoy it for a few minutes more. Tell me if you figure out exactly what's going on with it."

You head back out through the gates and shout to the Adventurers riding the colossal beast that you're just going to inspect it and mean no harm. "This won't affect your pardon! For all I know, you're being pardoned already! This is just research."

The Adventurers confer with each other. The blue-eyed one commands the blight demon to sit, and they both climb down from the makeshift saddle on its back. "Fine. But I'll stay here and keep it pacified from the ground. If it gets spooked again, I don't want to be high up on it."

Iltani walks toward it with her eyes closed. This does not seem to slow her down. She lays both hands on its leg. "It's like me... Together, we make more sense..."

The beast shakes its mandibles. The Adventurer's eyes flash, and he makes quivering gestures with his hands. "Steady..."

Iltani hops up onto the creature's leg, then leaps spectacularly onto its back. You can barely hear what she's saying to it. "Does Pazuzu talk to you, too? Or is it more than that? Is there a little of Pazuzu in you? In us?"

You're beginning to think that this was a terrible idea. "That's enough. Down. Now!"

If Iltani can hear you, she's willfully ignoring you. "Pazuzu! What do you want me to do?! Why me?! I've tried to please you, but it still feels all wrong! I think there's been a mistake, I'm just a farmer's daughter..."

Five Adventurers and a royal page run up behind you. "It is done! We're all pardoned, and the school is ours! We've gotten together some money for... hey, what's going on?"

The blue-eyed wizard coughs and collapses in a heap as the blue goes out of his eyes. You, the Adventurers, the Archers and the Slingers all see the giant blight demon buck, thrash, and lope out into the northern grasslands with Iltani in tow. You've got some rounding-up to do.
