>This is a one-shot! Please bear with me as I will do my best to provide illustrations with every post. Mostly.

You are a ranger. You are one of the few picked out from a selection of DOZENS who volunteered to lay down their lives keeping Russia safe from giant monsters called Kaiju.

You are a ranger, and your Jaeger - a man-made monster to kill other monsters - is the strongest and most powerful one ever built.

If only it would actually work half of the time.

It is early morning. You are sleeping very soundly, the sleep of people who are very tired and who had not been sleeping well for two months already.

It is warm and stifling inside your shared quarters with your partner ranger, but that is how you like it. Simply because it is always cold outside. Very cold.

It is here that you hear beeping. An annoying beeping.

Damn it. Damn it all to fucking hell.

You are a boy. No, a MAN.

But you are always being mistaken for girl because you are short and wiry. Despite being very strong and very good with your fists. And also being a Ranger for great, glorious Cherno Alpha.

You tried correcting everyone but you gave up a long time ago. Now you just ignore them. Maybe punch them if they are being too annoying.

You are still very sleepy, but you get up from bed.

Radio thing is beeping to your right. Your partner ranger is snoring very heavily to your left.

Igh...cannot you get rest anymore? Is this what being a ranger is all about?

You were promised money. Lots of money. Enough money to choke a bear.

And lots of time to sleep in.

But no. It has always been training. Simulations. And more training.

And the occasional tune-up whenever Cherno Alpha breaks down, which is really more than just occasional.

But the Operations Director does not like it when that happens.

Anyway. You are up. What do you do?

You give the huge, fat bulge underneath the blankets of the bed beside you a kick. Then another. Then another.

This bastard! While you were training he has been out partying in the city all day long! And they do not even so much as chastise him when he comes back late after curfew! The last time you arrived late from quarters after running errands, you spent three weeks cleaning up the gulag! WITH A TOOTHBRUSH!

After your third kick, a guttural growl erupts from underneath the covers, and then some movement...

...before your partner suddenly passes wind. Loudly. Disgustingly loudly.

You kick him again. And again. And again.

DISGUSTING. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING, you shout at him while holding your nose. YOU TALKED TO HIM ABOUT THIS! YOUR QUARTERS HAVE NO WINDOWS, AND FAN EXHAUST IS NOT WORKING! HE IS TO STEP OUTSIDE WHEN HE IS TO DO THAT! FUCKING ANIMAL!

Your name is SASHA. A man's name. Strong like vodka brewed in bath.

Yes, you reply to strange voice on radio thing. They are in fact calling the Rangers' quarters. To what you owe the pleasure of such very early morning call? You do not remember scheduling one before breakfast.

And if Operations Director is calling about your ranger partner stealing her vodka, you have warned her countless times not to put it in places where it can be easily stolen--

"N-nyet," The voice quails tremulously. "Operations Director is calling not because of those reasons, but because there is word of Kaiju Event heading this direction." The secretary's voice lowers slightly. "She says it is very important that Cherno Alpha's Rangers must report to her at once. It is a...very complicated situation."

...Ah. Well that is not too bad of a reason to be woken up, you think.

[]Ask her if there is anything she knows about the Kaiju Event. What is its Level? Has it encountered any of the other nations' weaker, inferior Jaegers?

[]What is this complicated situation?

>>
>>30079891
They aren't generally twins siblings and twins just have an easier time drifting

See Mako and Douchebag, Marshall and his copilot, the aussie father and son, Russians as an example
>>
>>30080269
I wonder if Kyuubey would make an exception if he sensed a boy who would definitely wish to be a girl?
>>
>>30080310
Well yeah, that would make perfect sense. With enough power behind it, a Wish can turn the fabric of reality into banana custard. Gender switching would be a triviality.

But you'd have to be a girl in the first place to be offered a wish.

>>30080331
Not quite. But close.

For Natsuru to count, she'd have to have been a girl originally.

>>30080358
As I understand it, It's not a deciscion that Koobey makes. It just... doesn't work on guys.
>>
>>30080378
It hasn't been said but the fact that no incubators contract boys is a pretty big hint I think

Decu has mentioned that kyuubey does approach only a certain type of girl who fits a type he sees as usable though
>>
>>30080429
It was mentioned in one of the writeups that when an officio is really desperate the incubator will contract just about any girl they can find. Judging by the fact that there still don't seem to be any boys, it does seem like it just isn't possible.

You're assuming this one-shot is even set in the same universe as normal MGNQ, which is questionable unless there are Titans and giant robots stalking around outside Mitakihara.

Note: Not IMPOSSIBLE, considering Sayaka is currently fighting Metal Gear Ray, but still. It seems like something we might be aware of.
>>
>>30094361
>It seems like something we might be aware of.
Of course, with the amnesia, and us not having read the entire Puella Magi's Uplifting Primer (only specific sections), there's probably a lot of stuff we should be aware of but aren't.
Such as the fact that someone has dinosaurs in the world, and that Murderface fought them.
>>
>>30094361
Alternatively, it could be set in the same universe as Crimson and Sasha is Vladislava's grandson. The Kaijews are just Martians up to their old tricks again.
>>
>>30094361
Perhaps it's the future?

Let's say Chiaki managed to neutralize both Pinky and Homucifer. The world is saved from Faust, but nobody's whisking the dying MGs away. They Witch. Some cataclysm happens, and there are no more MGs (or the existing MGs are depowered), only Witches. Without MGs to hunt them, they start growing, not to Walpurgis Night levels, but still big enough to not have barriers. The humanity at large, not knowing of Witches, call them 'Kaijus'. Cue the Jaegers.
>>
>>30095055
Or MGs are dying normally and Strauss is just being a dickbutt with no one left to keep her in check.

And now to really mess with your heads

it could be all four simultaneously.

I grew up with G1 Transformers, man. Wrapping my head around any number of weird parallel continuties are quite literally childsplay.

Whatever, I just wanna punch some monsters in what I'm tentatively gonna call their face with a big robot fist. I'll worry about what universe I'm doing it in as and when it becomes a thing that matters.

You thank her for the call, as is customary. You will ask all pertinent details about Kaiju Event when you are meeting Operationis Director face-to-face.

"A-ah. Very well, Comrade Sasha. Glory to Cherno Alpha--"

You cut her off before she can put down the phone by asking her name.

"M-my name? I am...I am Operations Director's secretary, Katya. What is matter? Do you need anything--"

You sound cute and timid, you cut her off again. You give her a piece of advice: that this place will grind her up if she does not assert herself. She should also not let the director walk all over her, and not to let the director see her cry. She is not the first secretary you have seen to have fallen victim.

"I...yes. Thank you. I will...I will keep it in mind."

There is a click and a final beep as the call is terminated. Leaving you to suffer your partner ranger's snoring in silence.

You start kicking him again. And again.

WAKE UP! WAKE UP, YOU FAT BASTARD! IT IS TIME TO GO TO WORK, YOU USELESS SACK OF SHIT!

He starts to growl from underneath the covers again, and after you start jumping on him up and down does he finally get up. Throwing both you and the cigarette-butt infested covers off of him.

Revealing himself to you and to the world in all his stinking, no-good, worthless glory.

Your ursine partner's name is Boris. Boris the Bear. Boris the Ranger.

Boris the incredibly rude, smelly fat sack of fur WHO IS HANDLING YOUR IMPORTED COMIC BOOKS FROM AMERICA AGAIN! WHILE SMOKING YOUR OWN CIGARETTES! ALSO FROM AMERICA! You have told him again and again to keep his unwashed paws off of your things, especially your comic books!

They are the only thing to bring you solace and warm feelings in this cold, bleak existence of yours, a life spent dripping night after night in harsh training and duty.

It costs you nearly half a month's salary to import one single volume from the capitalist States, but you feel it is worth it. You have spent many a cold night reading them over and over again, with only the snoring of a drunk, smelly bear for company.

Ohh. Magical Girl Sparkle, of The Tales of Hero Destroyer Rena. Best girl. So kind, so gentle, so demure. You dream often about finding a girl just like her, soft spoken firm with her convictions. A proper woman, brought up with elegance and style and class.

The fact that you have never met anyone like her during your tour of duty is a daily nightmare that you wake up into, and must reconcile yourself with either by clenched teeth or through vodka.

. . .

Anyway. Yes. Your partner, Boris. You do not know much about his past - Boris never likes to talk about his past, except when he is bragging about his many conquests of the ladyfolk in the city.

You know better than to ask, anyway. But from what little you know, he was rescued from a circus by the Operations Director herself, and put into ranger duty the same time as you. And for some reason, he is as drift-compatible with you as your twin sister would be. If you had a twin sister.

In any case. You tell Boris that you both need to meet the Operations Director in her office. There seems to be a complicated situation regarding a Kaiju Event headed towards Russia's coastline. You assume you will be told more about this when you are face-to-face.

He growls at you, before shaking his mighty head. Dislodging cigarette butts and other debris from his unruly fur.

No, of course you do not expect breakfast will be served. Since when has the Operations Director ever served breakfast with her sermons? Idiot.

You make ready to meet with your direct superior. By this you are putting on ranger jacket and the pants of readiness.

Ahh, such luxury, being a Ranger. The pants are actually washed, and not simply turned inside out.

Boris growls again, asking you if you are up to killing Jaegers today.

Ahh. Again with this question. Kaiju is no question, but...Jaegers? Killing fellow Rangers? What is this nonsense he keeps bothering you about?

How do you respond?

[]Kaiju yes. Jaegers no. We fight the same fight. There is no need to destroy allies, as incompetent as inferior as they may be.

As long as kaiju exist, Rangers of all countries share common enemy. Once common enemy is gone, countries can go back to picking fights with each other and order Jaegers to fight. Right now, however, it would be foolish suicide to cripple one's own side in fight. Bears, you glance at him pointedly when you say, they know this truth of life from fighting wolves in forest. Also other bears.

Boris looks at you with his black, sharklike eyes with something resembling disappointment, before huffing steam into the air, a non-commitant shrug lifting his massive shoulders.

Well, that is settled. No more of that talk.

Now, since it is a Kaiju Event that you are summoned for...perhaps he can be a friend and give you a ride? Maybe?

Boris huffs again, before baring his teeth, his scarred lips pulling back in a rictus of a grin.

...So that is a no, then. Fine. He could have just shaken his head no.

After locking your quarters, you begin to make your way through the base, to the Operations Director's Office.

It is here that Boris begins to regale you of his antics last night, using his own brand of bear language that surprisingly, only you can understand. It is fine, however. You just interpret it for others if they want to know what the idiot is saying.

...

Ah. So he went boozing and whoring again. As always. You figured this.

Wait, the bartender's daughter? Her? But she has the face of a pig! And it is rumored that she has done it with every patron of her father's bar!

She's not actually dead. The trauma that caused Sasha to mourn is the fact that he has been solicited by his sisters boyfriends for sex many many times. Much gropings were had before they found out something was wrong.

Then one day while very very drunk at a bar, three of his sisters boyfriends had a romp with Sasha. Nobody questioned the extra penis because it was a foursome. And thus Sasha mourned the loss of his innocence in a horrible drunken mistake.

After more idle conversation with Boris and treading heavy snow, you finally arrive at the Operations Director's office.

It is easily most recognizable office in all of Big Skull. Simply because the Operations Director's trophy is laid upon it.

It is a significantly smaller Kaiju's skeleton. They say it is an adolescent that the Operations Director found as a baby inside a slain Kaiju.

She trained it, raised it, and kept it not as a pet, but a friend. A companion.

Until one day, when it was already bigger than a house, it attacked her.

And without a second thought, without even considering that it could be just rough play from a young animal, and seemingly not caring at all that she spent years rearing it - she wrestled it to the ground, grabbed it by the horns and broke its neck in a savage twist.

Your Operations Director is many things, but weak is not one of them. Given to compassion is not one of them, either.

Secretly, you are proud to be a ranger in her command.

You would never admit it, however.

You wipe your boots on the doormat before stepping in. Boris glares at the doormat, as if it had personally offended him, before grudgingly scraping his back paws on it as well.

There are soldiers here, men who work for Operations Director as well as those who help you maintain Cherno Alpha's status as the most powerful Jaeger in the planet. All of them stand up from their seats or stop what are they doing to salute as both you and Boris walk past. Once upon a time, you returned each and every one, but now you just march past them without even so much as nodding.

It is not respect. Not really.

It is more of a formality. They respect Cherno Alpha, not the rangers who pilot it. They revere the machine, but spit on its pilots.

This is no concern of yours. You only wish to serve. And maybe get paid while doing so.

You step finally into Operations Director's office. She is there, behind her desk, like always, smoking her expensive cigars. Her scars, extensive and dappling her face in a shiny, taut corpse-skin, only serves to make her look more beautiful, you think.

But not as beautiful as Magical Girl Sparkle.

"Ahh, here are my favorite Rangers! Sasha and Boris!" She claps both hands, exultant. "Come, come in. Close door behind you. I apologize for short notice, but it cannot be helped when there is Kaiju in need of killing, yes?"

Yes. Of course. That is what you are trained to do. Kill Kaiju. So of course you answer the call.

"Very good, Sasha. You recognize your part in this army." Operations Director nods. "I will get to briefing, then, let us not waste any more time."

She stands up and points to the giant world map behind her. There are red pushpins all over it, mainly in the sea and coastline areas.

You know that these are Kaiju Events. One pin for every one in the world. Every single one killed by a Jaeger.

There are black ones, too. These are the Kaiju Events that are killed, but have killed a Jaeger of their own before dying.

There is no such pin near Russia.

"Five hours ago, America detected a Level 3 Kaiju Event. Codename Knifedhead. They deployed their Jaeger, Gipsy Danger to try and neutralize it, but alas." She points to a black pin near US coastline on map. "One of the two rangers were killed. Eaten, I believe."

That's brutal.

"Yes, very." Operations Director nods. "In any case, it is making its way here, now. I am mobilizing Cherno Alpha to neutralize it and salvage its corpse."

Ahh. So it is the usual case, then.

"It is estimated that it will be in range in around forty minutes. Cherno Alpha is being readied as we speak."

...And that is surprise. Normally she would be shouting at you and Boris to go get the Jaeger ready yourselves.

"Are there any questions?"

Okay. So you and Boris are to kill a Level 3 Kaiju this time for her. That is fine, there is no problem with that. You will be glad to.

But you want to know the entire story. There is something Operations Director is not saying, now. You want to know what it is before you get into the comm pod of your Jaeger for once!

For a moment, there is nothing but silence, except for Boris breathing through his teeth.

The Operations Director's eyes fixing you with her stare, her eyes like a wolf's, as if sizing you up before leaping forward and tearing your throat out with your teeth.

And it is then she grins.

"Ah, Sasha. Again you prove why you are my favorite Ranger. I cannot hide anything from you." She shakes her head, before pulling her cigar free from her teeth and grinding it out on her filled ashtray.

"We received word that Japan has deployed its own Jaeger, Tacit Ronin, and is now in pursuit of Knifehead."

...Tacit Ronin? You know that Jaeger. It is slender and weak, focusing on speed rather than armor and power. It is a coward's Jaeger.

Then again, if the Japanese want it so much, why not just give it to them? Is this complication she is hiding from you?

"...No, complication is this." Operations Director grins wider. "You know how these Japanese are with their kills - they do not share, even when they kill in our territory." As it is, Hannibal Chau has promised us a very fine bounty if we deliver the corpse to him. Enough for us to keep running for another month. Maybe even get Cherno Alpha above fifty percent operational status this time!"

Ah. So, it is money. It is always money.

...

Then again...having Cherno Alpha above fifty percent operational readiness for once sounds very tempting, too...as well as actually getting paid again.

"That is the complication, then." Operations Director sits back down on her desk. "I do not think I need to stress that we need that Kaiju corpse, Sasha. Retrieve it by any means possible." Her eyes, black like a shark's, shine with a deadly light.

"It...would not be the first time Cherno Alpha had to protect Russia's borders against things other than Kaiju, no?"

You give the customary reply of assent, as is expected of you. Yes. Of course. As she wishes. You hear and obey her every command.

But in your mind, you do not wish to kill another Jaeger or its crew. It is not their sin to be weaker or less capable than Cherno Alpha, and thus, they should not be punished with death for it. You will take the corpse on your own terms, not on Boris', and certainly not on the bloodthirsty Operations Director's.

You instead ask her what is Cherno Alpha's operational readiness this time. She blinks her golden wolf eyes at you, before laughing.

"What is this, Sasha? It is another joke from you, again?" The Operations Director cackles, her laugh an ugly, coarse one that reminds you of a tank shifting gears. "You should stick to puns, that is more to your style."

Never the less, you wish to know. The blonde woman shakes her head at you before rolling her eyes.

"With our current resources, Cherno Alpha is at 45 % Operational Readiness. Just like last time. You were not very gentle with her with her last outing, you remember?"

Ah. Of course. Yes, you remember.

Forty-five percent. That means besides life support and basic locomotion, Cherno Alpha's battle capabilities are very much reduced to only its fists. Using its other weaponry, despite how effective they are, could spell disaster.

But that is okay, you think. As long as Cherno Alpha can move, as long as it can punch, it can kill anything.

You have done more with much less.

"If there are no more questions, then you are cleared to mobilize." The Operations Director nods at both you and Boris. "You know your main objectives. Remember your training. And keep in mind that mercy is only for the weak."

Both you and Boris salute her, in perfect unison. And it is then that you leave.

Before you leave the building, you hear the Operations Director shouting at her secretary to get into her office and assume the position.

There will be new secretary tomorrow, you predict.

In any case. With that done, you and Boris are ferried to Cherno Alpha's loading bay via a truck waiting outside the Operations Director's building. It is a short trip, made even shorter by you racking your brains on how to handle this situation.

Well. You will just think of it when you come across it. For now, you focus only on killing a Kaiju first. Then you will decide.

Upon arrival, you and your partner quickly suit up for Ranger duty: putting on the wired carapace armor that translates your body's movements along with your thoughts in order to control the Jaeger.

You note here that your carapace is much more extensive than Boris - his being nothing more than a set of manacles on his paws - but you also know that his link to the machine is much more visceral than your own half-helmet with the many lenses and dials on the visor.

He is connected through Cherno Alpha by an implant in his own brain, placed there via surgery. Making him a part of the glorious machine, even when he is out of Atmoscan.

Sometimes you envy him.

"Sasha. Boris." The Operations Director's voice comes through the speakers installed in the cavernous, yet still cramped, Atmoscan Comm-Pod of Cherno Alpha. "You are cleared for the operation. Commence neural handshake when you are ready."

"Here is hoping that the memory we share is not you fucking the bartender's daughter up the rear, eh?" You shout at him, above the noise and heat of Cherno Alpha's power cell reaching criticality. Boris merely growls back.

"Yes, I hope it is not about me dreaming about making a hat of your skull either." You nod at him, before reaching forward and slamming your gloved hand down on the ACTIVATE button raised on a dais between you and your partner.

How to describe getting into the drift with a bear? To drift with a ton of fur, muscle, and belligerent murderous hate upon the world?

Is it wrong I want this to replace MGNQ?

Haha, well, some of those minor emergencies were unfortunately due to my own faults. But they're mostly over and handled now, barring some really unexpected happenings!

>>30099331

Hahaha! Well, I'm glad someone likes this enough at least!

Yes.

Yes, loose ends need to be tied up.

Too old for that. Sasha is Yuu's brother.

Yes it is, we haven't gotten to fuck up Chiaki's plan through expert decision making yet. I may be more tempted to agree with you after that happens.

Was that spotty router the reason for the connection troubles you've had as of late? Do you think those are going to cease to be a problem now?

I think so! The router would always cut out and the laptop would have a hard time detecting it again and again until I would have to refresh the entire thing. Now with a new one it's pretty much been smooth, so hopefully it won't be as problematic!
