So, i need to give my party magical items which have only minor uses and are so minor that even the members who own them may not even be aware of them, but still enough that they'd subconsciously place value on this object. An example being a Cloak that keeps them as warm as being in doors while walking about in 5 degrees C
>>
A staff that causes a player to be able to walk 3 extra KM a day

Hobo sack that no matter how much stuff you put into it, it WILL close. Its like a bag of holding in effect but the items dont disappear, just 'compress'. So your players can put unlimited objects in it but of course wont know until the time comes up they need to put extra things in it or something along those lines

best item i ever received was a magic broom that swept rooms on command and kept sweeping till told to stop. we found it in the absolutely CLEANEST pantry on the fourth floor of a dungeon filled with mold and rats and fungus. We were quite civil splitting previous treasure, like an intelligent +5 sword, but this broom? Well me and the rogue player nearly strangled each other over this thing.

For some reason it's the little things that are most endearing.

Try a pair of magic gardening gloves, lets you harvest and prune any limb with just your fingers and impervious to thorns from a plant.

how about a pickling jar, put in the vegies and the jar automatically fills with brine.

Well if that doesn't tickle your fancy then check out this nifty lil distraction, a chess board where all the pieces are voice commanded.

And for the fancy types I have a jacket that buttons it self.
>>
A small disk shaped stone that always rolls north when tossed.
Doesn't roll forever, doesn't fly north when thrown, just rolls as much as you'd be able to normally roll a rock across the ground.
>>
>>30030833
An intelligent sword seeks its true destined owner through subtle mental manipulation of everyone else who holds it. In all other respects it is a normal sword, but it might bring people together in surprising ways.

A stone that, when heated in a campfire or equivalent heat source, hums a barely audible lullaby that wards off small biting insects. The stone is never more than warm to the touch no matter how long it spends in the fire.

A gold piece that always resembles a coin of equivalent value from the country that you are in.

A cloak that is embroidered with countless tiny stars in the same pattern as the night sky. Even during the day, the stars on the cloak move in time with the way the stars look above the wearer's location, with "up" being north.

A goblin skull that, if kept in your bedchambers overnight, will shriek in distress if you forget something (an object or a task you should have done) when you are getting ready to leave in the morning.
>>
>>30030833
A cooking spit which will never burn the food it cooks.
A set of tools that never rusts and always stays sharp.
A cloak which teleports any water that strikes it several meters away. Only works on small (raindrop-sized) bits of water.
A candle that doesn't actually burn lower.
>>
A magical hobo shank that functions as a +1 weapon, but only if the weilder is a hobo without any poverty vows
>>
>>30030833
A small barrel that keeps all food kept in it fresh for three times longer.
A whistle that can't be heard, except by goblinoids. They only hear birds chirping.
A hat that will never blow off in the wind.
>>
An enchanted stone that heats up when placed in a liquid. A good way to cook dinner when a fire is not an option.
>>
One I heard awhile back. The orb of slope detection.
>>
>>30031311
A cube 3 inches across, made of thin glass of six different colors, one on each face. When it is placed on a side, the colors shift until they finally settle with one color on top (sometimes the same color that was placed, often a different one). Nobody has figured out what the colors mean.

A vial of scented oil that can be burned as incense of worn as a perfume. Everyone smells something different but, always something nostalgic and a bit sad.

A book of devotionals to Dionysus or whatever equivalent god your setting supports. The book will "drink" wine that is poured onto the pages, and save up a good amount. Reading passages aloud from the book causes the wine to be transferred magically into the reader.

A compass that points to the nearest person or object within a few hundred feet that has been uttered as part of a curse (magical or mundane) the most number of times.

In that spirit, a book that opens to the citation you were thinking of when you're discussing something with a friend and you say "I think I read somewhere that....", well, it tells you where you read that.
>>
An hourglass which, upon close inspection, drops the grains of sand individually and at an entirely regular rate, making in completely accurate.

A small silver dish inscribed with a smiling moon that will fill with fresh milk or food when placed in front of kittens, orphans, and kindly old half-blind men.

Horseshoes which seem to be magnetically attracted to hooves, requiring no additional fastening.

A small looking glass which plays tricks on the eyes. Glancing through it provides normal magnification, but one might see a spire of gold in the shape of a sunlit mountain, or a musical box and floating notes in a cloud, or a laughing rabbit in the shapes of the stars.
>>
A small statue of a praying angel which smiles when in the sun. Even if clouds then roll in, they will be parted for 30 feet around the angel for 7 hours before closing.

I had a fun one that my SuperSeriousMinmaxerERPer mage tossed away and bitched at me for giving him something absolutely useless.

The Stick of Fish. - Any up to medium sized fish that is stuck onto this small stick will be cooked to the wishes of the person holding it, but never get burnt, does not require fire.
When you put it just through the water surface of a natural lake/pond/brook/etc. and call out "I got one!" a fish will magically appear stuck on the stick and once removed from the water, will get cooked. (works limited times per day )
>>
A goblet that, when a liquid is poured into it, will continue to magically refill itself from the bottle automatically, until the bottle is empty.

A walking stick that will always balance on its tip when set down.

A glass eye that, when placed into an empty socket, will always look at the nearest living creature (other than the wearer).

Two magical pages of paper. Anything written on one will appear on the other. Any ink is magically removed after one minute.

A set of magical clothes that appear as plate mail to anyone who has not yet touched them. Any physical contact renders the person permanently immune to the illusion.

A deck of playing cards that will always deal the worst possible hands to all players. Only works in games with 4 or fewer players.

A jar filled with potpourri that smells like their childhood home to each person who smells it.

A matching set of eight ivory figures. When left together and unattended, they will shift positions and poses. They will remain in their new pose until they are observed and then left unattended again. These poses are scenes from a famous tragedy written long ago. Once complete, the figures simply repeat. If any figure is removed from the set, they all stop working.
>>
A guitar that, regardless of what string is plucked, will always produce the same set of notes in the same order. Only the speed at which these notes are produced can be changed.

Dust that, when tossed into the air, stops any natural winds or breezes until it settles onto the ground.

An iron orb that always rolls against gravity, but only while in contact with a solid surface. If not in contact with a solid surface, it has no unusual properties.

Magic paper that, when a message is written on it and the paper is pressed against any surface, the message will be transferred into the surface and remain there for an hour.

A hoop of metal that transmutes any non-living non-magical material that is passed through it into a fine powder of the same material. Passing the dust through the opposite direction has no effect.

A set of 10 matching knives. Only one knife is real, the rest are mirror images of the real knife.

A magic bracelet that switches the wearer's sense of smell and hearing.

A whet stone that, when used to sharpen a blade, renders the blade incorporeal for 24 hours.

A gemstone that takes on the appearance of the birth stone of the last person to touch it.

A hair pin that, when worn, changes the person's hair color based on their mood.

Glasses that cause the wear to see the world as it was ten minutes ago.

A sewing needle that indefinitely extends the length of any threat it's used with.

A ball that, when tossed, will always land in the hands of a willing target withing 30 feet.

A cup that cannot be filled with any liquid. Any liquid that would touch the inside of the cup is magically transported back into the container it came from.
>>
A set of 3 magic compasses. They do not point north, but point to the nearest compass in the set.

A set of magic earrings. When one earring is worn, and the other placed on a corpse, the wearer will hear the last sounds the corpse heard before death.

A book that, when opened, contains the first story the reader ever knew.

A blanket that stops working at dawn, and starts working again at dusk.

A pair of rings. When worn by different people their senses of hearing are switched.

Earrings that, when worn, deafen the user to all sounds except from those sources that pose an immediate physical threat.

A horn that, when blown, delays the sound it should have made for ten minutes.

A necklace that, when placed on a dead body that is laying on open ground, causes the body to sink six feet directly down.

An enchanted canoe. Any liquid that would touch the inside of the boat passes through as if the boat wasn't there.

A magic box that, when any item is placed into it, causes the item to vanish for 24 hours. Items reappear in the box, and are immune to the disappearing effect for 24 hours.

An enchanted sword. If used to cause lethal damage to a person, the sword instead harmlessly passes through them.

A magic flower pot, with the symbol of an herb etched into it. Regardless of what seed is planted in the pot, it will sprout the etched herb.

A lock and key. The key magically transports itself into the pocket of the person closest to the lock.

A cup that, when it reaches exactly half capacity, causes any remaining liquid in it to violently shoot out the top. This only occurs as the cup is being drained, not filled.

A set of ten small stones. When placed in a circle of any size less than 10 feet in diameter, any liquid poured into the circle will not flow beyond the stones, unless it reaches over 5 feet high, at which point it will spill over the top. Removing any of the stones instantly dispels the effect.

A cart whose wheels cannot turn unless someone is sitting in the front.

A signet ring that will magically re-size itself to fit the wearer, but only if the wearer is a direct descendant of the creator of the ring.

A small hood for a trained falcon. Any bird wearing the hood does not need to eat or drink as long as the hood remains on.

A mask that, when worn, changes into the race of the previous owner. If previous owner was the same race, it has no effect.

A quill that will not work if used to knowingly pen a lie.

A magical hearth that turns any wood burned in it into iron instead of ash. Any such item instantly rusts away into dust exactly ten days after the transmutation.

Dust that instantly freezes any water it touches. The ice will then thaw normally.

A pair of goggles that, when worn, render the user unable to see any thing not made of metal.

A bird house that awakens any chicks that hatch inside it.

Gloves that, when clapped together while worn, cause the wearer to wink out of existence for one minute, reappearing exactly where they were when they disappeared. Usable only once per day.
>>
A magic key that fits any lock, but can only be used to lock it, not unlock.

A salve that renders any non-living substance it's spread on transparent.

A bowl that transmutes any water poured into it into sand.

Bellows that cause any fire stoked with them to animate into figures preforming a famous ballet.

A magic table. Anything knocked off lands right side up. Anything that would shatter from the fall simply teleports back onto the table.

A magic easel. When a painting is placed onto the magic easel, the nearest person sees the world as the artist saw it at the moment the last stroke of the painting was made. The effect lasts for one minute or until dismissed.

An enchanted journal. Unless the command word is spoken before opening it, the journal reads as an account of the reader's life for the dates in question.

A hat that, when worn, causes the wearer to only be able to speak the truth. Anyone that hears the wearer instantly believes them.

A bridle that, when placed onto a horse, instantly turns the horse to stone until it is removed.

A water skin that transmutes any liquid placed in it into water.

A ring that causes the wearer's hand to appear to be clawed and demonic.

A silver pendant that, when held against the throat of the wearer, changes their voice to that of the previous owner.
>>
An ice cube that never melts

A walking stick that can function as an accurate sundial, even inside or underground

A bag that always contains appropriate dice/tokens for the game at hand

A chess set that animates and attacks people who attempt to cheat at the game

Eyeglasses that don't require cleaning and can shade themselves in a myriad of colors

This is badass. While it would be really useful for keeping a horse suspended in a cave for a quick getaway (since anyone could remove the bridle, you'd want to hide the horse), it could also be placed on someone's horse who is trying to escape--suddenly, no more running!

>>
A monocle that, when worn, causes every person to hear the wearer with the accent of the local nobility.

A set of tattooing needles. Any tattoo made with these tools is animated, and will move and wander around the character's body of it's own free will.

A large cage that renders the contents invisible as long as the cage is locked.

A balm that cause scales to sprout from where it is applied. These scales will fall out after an hour. For some reason, this balm is only effective on non-living surfaces.

A pair of matching rings. The inside of the hoops are actually portals that connect to each other.

A set of fine dress clothes. The clothes vanish upon being received. They only reappear if the owner is planning on attending a formal event in the next 24 hours, disappearing after the owner leaves. Each time they appear, they have changed significantly enough to appear to be new clothes.

Glass panes made for windows. Regardless of what side of the building they are put in, they look out over the side with the largest clear space in front of it, but only when they are closed.

A pair of small metal rods, each about five inches long and a half inch wide, with bulbs at one end. When held, the bulb transmutes into the proper utensil needed for the current meal.

A large stone slab that, when placed near a dead body, will automatically display the body's name in life, the date of their birth, and the date of their death.

Goggles that invert natural light and darkness.

A necklace that causes your voice to be totally silent to anyone who has not heard your name spoken aloud.

A ring that, when put on, periodically gives the wearer the distinct feeling that he or she is forgetting something important.

A journal that makes a note every time an idiom is spoken around it. This journal nor its pages may be written on.

A small metal figure and a complementary slab. When the figure is placed on the slab, it performs a particular ballet.

Two small cubes that, regardless of their placement and orientation, will always perfectly balance on top of one another.

Four dice that, when rolled, will spell out the first four letters of the roller's name.

An earring that, if someone shouts in the ear it is worn on, will make shouters sound as if they're are talking in a normal tone of voice.

A spyglass that will briefly show anyone who looks through it a flash of the last moment of the last dream he or she had.

A rug that can only be moved by the touch of a hand.

A rock that will always stand out when placed among other rocks.

A smooth, flat stone that will return to a thrower's hand if skipped across a body of water.

A feather that allows the holder to know the name of the species of any bird he or she touches.

A ship in a bottle that perpetually sails on a stormy sea also in the bottle.

A ring that engraves upon the inside of itself the name of the person the holder is currently thinking about.

A beautiful cloak that will appear ugly to everyone except the wearer.

A small stone that will grow heavier in the carrier's pocket based on how sad he or she currently is. Touching it will briefly remind one of a happy memory.

A pair of glasses that will randomly make the wearer see something out of the corner of his or her eye that isn't actually there.

A dog collar that gives those who touch it the sensation of petting a dog.

A hat that reminds those who touch it of mundane chores they have forgotten to do.

A statuette that takes on the appearance of someone who has been particularly inspiring to the viewer.
>>
A spoon that does not transfer heat. Perfect for stirring a stew without the handle getting hot or scooping icecream without it seizing up on you. Other notable uses would be the ability to slay fire demons without it melting on you like normal metals.

Those exist already, in two different flavors no less.

The first costs 500 gp, and is called Shiftweave. It lets you switch between five predetermined sets of clothes.

The second, the Vestment of Many Styles, is almlst objectively better. It costs the same, but can freely switch between any mundane clothes, plus a +2 bonus to Disguise. The only downside is that it needs to be made by a Changeling, which can be bypassed with a negligible bonus to the DC of crafting it.
