You are ALICE. You were once a magical girl, but have now ended up having to hunt down your former comrades. As a member of the Magical Girl Hunter Bureau, it is your job to defend humanity from the Magical Menace!

You are currently riding an elevator down to what will likely be your horrible death. Well, at least things were' TOTALLY bleak. You managed to eliminate one Magical Girl and capture another while clearing the topside portion of the lab complex. Now you just have to take care of two more and you could call it a day.

Again, assuming you didn't die horribly first.

The odds are pretty stacked against you. You're not sure how many of the guards stationed in the sublevels are still alive, which just leaves Leo as your only solid backup. Two normals against two Magical Girls in a confined space like these tunnels were not terribly good odds.

But you were going to try anyways.

Finally, the elevator grinds to a halt and the doors slide open to reveal an empty, but blood stained chamber. Things were already looking up for you. You take a quick glance. You could head straight for the Nemesis containment chamber, since that was no doubt where the MGs were headed, or you could take a detour to the security station. Maybe you could find backup or useful gear.

"Leo, we're going to take a detour to the security station." You whisper.

"Got it." Your partner nods.

The two of you move quickly yet carefully through the complex. You can tell that the MGs didn't take this path considering the walls were still intact and there wasn't blood and bodies everywhere. However, the battle had obviously taken its toll. Primary power was out and the tunnels were only lit by emergency lighting. You hope that the security station was still operational.

Both you and Leo flank the entrance to the station before you carefully open the door to peek in...

"Anybody in here?" You yell.

"Friendlies inside!" You hear a voice respond.

Taking your finger off the trigger, you peek in to see four security guards in full combat gear, pointed guns now lowering.

"Thank god, are you reinforcements?" One of them asks.

"Sort of." You sigh. "Who's in charge here?"

"Lieutenant Walters, at your service!" The nearest guard salutes.

"Where's your CO?" You ask, looking around.

"Captain Jones went to try and secure the Nemesis chamber. He and his men sealed themselves inside to buy some time."

"Are you in radio contact?" You ask.

"We've got a landline there. Hold on, I'll connect." Walters steps over to a nearby console and hits a few keys, then hands a phone receiver to you. You pick it up and hold to your ear, and you can hear the ringtone.

"Walters, I damn well hope you're telling me reinforcements are here." You hear a grizzled voice speak.

"This is Hunter Alice Archer. I'm pretty much your reinforcements for..." You check your watch. "...next ten minutes. What's your situation, Captain?"

"It's a huge fucking mess. I'm down to six men, and we've got two MGs pounding at the blast doors. They're not going to hold for long!"

(cont)
>>
>>30026732
Ok, thanks.

Also, I was trying to imagine how does would a rail-mini-gun work, I guess it would be like a gatling gun with rotating barrels to reduce overhead and warping. But it would still be unwieldy in close combat.

Plasma grenades would be cool as well, we just need an energy source concentrated enough to turn air into plasma in a grenade size package.
>>
>>30026794
"Roger that. Stand by." You turn to Walters. "What are you guys equipped with?"

Beowulfs, Lansky's got a shotgun here, and we've got flashbangs, frag grenades, and tear gas. We also got a Cooker."

"A what?" You blink.

"Basically a microwave emitter. Heavy as hell and takes a while to set up, but it's good area denial and Circles aren't very effective against it." Walters explains.

Hm, might be handy in the close quarters here.

"Hey, Archer, we've got a problem!" Jones yells. "The blast doors are starting to buckle. If you don't get down here RIGHT NOW, I'll have no choice but to activate Nemesis!"

"You can do that?" You blink.

"Don't activate it yet. We'll be right there." You say.

"Well, better hurry the hell up." Jones grunts. You can hear the loud banging in the background. "This door isn't standing up for long."

"Alright people, gear up and get moving!" You yell. "You four are with us! Grab anything you can use!"

"Yes, ma'am!"

The six of you move out, a bit quicker this time. Walters guides your small squad to the chamber entrance, where you can see two figures at the end of the hallway repeatedly banging at the blast doors. One had a huge battle hammer and the other was using her fists.

TARGETS IDENTIFIED

MAGICAL GIRL HEART HAMMER

MAGICAL GIRL SHINING FISTS

You frown. If you remember correctly, the chamber in front of the last doors had three possible entrances. If you didn't get both girls on the first volley, they would have options to retreat and try to flank you, if they didn't break through the door first.

"So what exactly does the Cooker do?" You whisper to Walters.

"Well," Walters picks up the Cooker, which looks like a large satellite dish mounted on a tripod. "This thing has two modes. Directed beam mode, which shoots a super concentrated microwave beam which burns like a bitch, or wide area mode, which disperses microwaves in a cone instead of a beam. Naturally, it's less powerful than the beam."

It takes several long, excruciating minutes. All the while, you watch as Heart Hammer and Shining Fists keep trying to pound the blast door in. You see that it's starting to actually buckle in. It could go at any time at this point.

"So do you know either of them?" Leo asks, nodding towards the two MGs.

"Vaguely." You shrug. "The only times MGs ever gathered in large numbers was to fight the really big Invaders. I've seen them once or twice, heard a few stories about them, but that's about it."

"Like what?"

"Shining Fist once punched an Invader so hard they found pieces of it in Britain. She lived in New York at the time."

You all open fire with a storm of bullets. However, unlike what happened with Flameheart and Icicle, both Heart Hammer and Shining Fist already had their Circles up. Bitches must have been expecting an ambush. However, instead of running, Shining Fist moves to shield Heart Hammer as she continues to pound away at the blast door. However, taking fire from three side puts a serious strain on her, and you can see Shining Fist visibly buckling under the pressure. Her Circle could only withstand a barrage like this for a few seconds.

However, a few seconds is all Heart Hammer needs to finally knock a hole into the blast doors.

"Shit! Everybody move in!" You yell as you move forward, still firing.

With her job done, Shining Fist tries to break off down one of the halls, no doubt to try and distract you. However, she shrieks as she runs straight into the Cooker's line of fire. Her Circle flashes like a strobe, warding off the worst of the microwave energy, but you can tell the bitch is definitely hurting now.

"Walters, you handle the in the hall, we're pursuing the one that broke into the chamber!" You yell.

"Got it!" Walters yells.

You sprint down the hall and past Shining Fist, who is too distracted with pain to really do anything to stop you. She then starts limping off down the hall you just came from, but the barking of assault rifles tells you that she probably won't get far.

Inside, you grimace when you see Jones' men spattered all over the chamber like paint. Heart Hammer's weapon was a seriously nasty thing. Up ahead, you see Jones standing defiantly between an slowly approaching Heart Hammer and the Nemesis. You raise your rifle but hesitate for a second. You can try to draw Heart Hammer's attention away by firing at her, but you might Nemesis, or worse, Jones. Well, you could always do it the stupid way and tackle Heart Hammer. You fire several shots from the Goo Gun into Heart Hammer's back. However, of course, she's got her Circle, so the pellets spatter ineffectually off her magic barrier. However, you do succeed in grabbing her attention and she turns to face the new threat. This gives Jones a precious second to raise and aim his rifle, forcing Heart Hammer to do a somersault through the air in order to shake his aim. She lands on the fair side of the chamber and that's when you both finally make eye contact. You're almost taken aback by the pure HATE you see in Heart Hammer's eyes when she looks at you. She then readies her signature weapon for another attack.

Were you really that bad?

"I hope you know what you're doing!" Jones yells back.

"So how are we handling this?" Leo asks, his rifle still aimed. Things were currently at a bit of a tense standoff. Neither you or Heart Hammer were making a move just yet. You were all waiting to see who would blink first. You knew that trying to take her down in this confined space with just Beowulfs was going to be tough. You'd need at least a few solid bursts to hit her before cracking her Circle, and you knew she wasn't going to make hitting her easy. Not to mention she didn't necessarily have to go for you. She could just go straight for Nemesis, or pulp Jones or Leo first.

Meanwhile, the syringe containing the Companion Juice jingled in your pouch pocket, seemingly begging to be used. If it did what Egan promised it would, you could conceivably end this fight right now.

But that was a big if.

Can we just use the microwave gun to deny the area between us and her

and then deploy a flashbang to force her to drop her circle

and then continue consecutive fire?

>>30030446
Where's the logic here?
It's still possible to combat without it. We have numbers and tools other than guns.

>>30030466
I assume we have signals or 'codespeak' so we can command others without the enemy understanding.

We need the area denial of the microwave gun, a flashbang to get her to pull the circle when she doesn't need it, causing microwave to wear at her

once she's recovering from that, rifle fire can be used to destroy the circle, giving opportunity for rifle fire to kill her or goo pellet to incapacitate the foe

>>30030647
it's something that can be done, but usually won't because it's an easy way to kill you and your squadmates

if anything, nades are mainly for area denial. a nade is thrown in, the enemy has to evacuate the area

We don't really need area denial, we just need to keep her circle from really getting up. nades mean she has to move, which in turn drops her circle.

if we can manuver her into the microwave gun, we can take her out

she probably hasn't figured out the microwave gun is doing it yet, as it just feels like the general area is stinging and burning hot

You open up by throwing a flashbang before all three of you fire at once. The blast momentarily blinds Heart Hammer, causing her to stumble a bit as Beowulf fire chips away at her Circle. However, she quickly regains her senses, and with a scream of rage, slams her hammer down onto the ground, causing the entire chamber to rumble as if an earthquake had hit, causing all of you to stumble as you try to regain your footing. You then see Heart Hammer speed dashing directly at you, winding up her hammer for another attack.

"Walters, where are you?" You yell in your radio.

"We just bagged that MG!" Walter announces.

"Good, turn off the Cooker. I'm going to try and lure the MG down the hall, and when I give the signal, turn the thing on at full power and we'll fry the bitch."

"G-got it!" The soldier yells. "You're clear!"

Firing off one last burst at Heart Hammer, you spin around and sprint down the West Hall. You steal a glance over your shoulder and see Heart Hammer chasing after you, no doubt believing you were the one at the disadvantage here.

The problem was, you weren't sure if you were going to make it to the end of the hall before Heart Hammer caught up with you.

It almost looks like you're about to make it when you feel a crushing impact on your back, like getting hit by a freaking truck. Resisting the urge to scream in pain, you topple to the ground, your slightly enhanced physiology probably the only thing keeping you alive at this point. You also hear a loud metallic clang as Heart Hammer's weapon falls to the ground. The bitch actually threw her goddamn hammer at you! A few meters down, you can see the Cooker, and Walters' man peeking out from behind it. He fires off several rifle rounds but Heart Hammer's Circle easily allows her to ignore them. One rifle wasn't going to cut it.

On the other end, you can see Heart Hammer slowly walking towards you, picking up her hammer and ready to finish you off.

But you were so close. You try to look for your weapon but your Beowulf has been knocked out of your grasp. All you've got is your Goo Gun and your Deagle.

You could try to get back up and run, but you weren't sure if it was possible considering it felt like there were a dozen knives in your back. You could tell Walters' man to activate the Cooker right now. Heart Hammer would take the full blast, but since you were lying down on the ground you'd probably avoid the worst of it.

Maybe.

But the fact of the matter was you had to do SOMETHING.

You hear a click and suddenly your entire body is wracked with searing hot pain. You fight the urge to scream and try to keep your aim steady, content in the fact that whatever you're getting hit by, Heart Hammer is suffering worse. Indeed, you see Heart Hammer shrieking as the focused microwave beam starts to sear her flesh, here Cricle rapidly blinking on and off as it tried to repel the energy.

You pull both triggers.

You fire everything you've got, but it simply isn't enough. For some nigh, unexplainable reason, Heart Hammer's Circle manages to hold. And in the heat of that microwave hell, with her flesh literally roasting Heart Hammer has only one thing left keeping her going.

Her absolute hate for you.

Despite the the obvious pain she's in, Heart Hammer stumbles towards you. She doesn't even have the strength to pick up her hammer, so she settles for kneeling over your chest and clenching her hands around your throat, her sizzling skin burning against yours, and she SQUEEZES.

You weakly try to push her off, but you're in no better condition than she is. You know you're not going to win this if thing's stay as they are.

You then see a dark silhouette coming up behind Heart Hammer, though you're not sure if it was an actual person or just an illusion created by your near delirious state.

You can also feel a syringe jostling around in one of your pouches.

Well fuck, it's not like you had anything left to lose at this point. Reaching into your side pouch, you take out the syringe of Companion Juice and jab it into your other arm.

Suddenly your entire world explodes into color. With one single punch ,you send Heart Hammer flying into the ceiling. With newfound strength, you slowly start to stand up. Even though the pain from the microwaves was still excruciating, everything else seemed to melt away. You even felt two very familiar items materialize in your hands.

A twin pair of knives, the blades made out of a multitude of colored crystals that gleamed brightly in this microwave hell.

Rainbow Edge and Prism Shard. Feeling their weight in your hands was like finding your long lost dog again.

MAGICAL GIRL KALEIDOSCOPE

"RAINBOW SLASH!" You scream, making a slashing motion at Heart Hammer before she even had a chance to fall back down from the ceiling. There's a bright flash, and then everything goes dark.

"My my, what an exciting turn of events." You hear a very familiar, very annoying voice.

"Damnit, Loki, can't you just let me die in peace?" You grumble. You look around. You're still in the hallway, but it's completely empty. Your signature weapons were gone as well.

"Well, I can't let THAT happen, now can I? We're both still linked, after all." Loki chuckles as he paces back and forth. "Besides, you're not dead. Very close, but still very much alive."

"Wonderful." You grunt. "Now what the hell do you want?"

(cont)
>>
>>30033001
"Well, I'd like to present an opportunity. You'll probably reject it anyways, but I might as well try." Loki leaps up to perch on your shoulder. "That thing you just did to yourself, well, lets just say it made some very interesting changes in your body. Changes we both could capitalize on."

"Get to the point, cat." You grunt, shaking Loki off your shoulder.

"I can replicate the effect of the drug that you took. Make it a little more... permanent, if you will."

"What's the catch?" You narrow your eyes.

"Hmmmm, well, increasing your magical affinity would also make ME more powerful as well, so I guess there's that." Loki stares directly at you. "But, you've already proven to be rather amazingly free spirited. I doubt you'd even notice!"

"Uh huh." You say, totally unconvinced.

"But think about it, Alice." Loki purrs. "Don't you miss it? The magic, the power, your very soul physically manifested as tools of destruction? Don't tell me you don't. I do live inside your mind, after all."

You're silent for what seems like an eternity.

"No deal, cat." You frown. "Taking up your offer is what got me in this mess in the first place."

"Well, it was worth a try." Loki sighs. Well, I suppose I should let you get back to your ACTUAL dream, then."

"What wha-" You try to chase after Loki when you feel something grab your arms. You look down and see well... you, except it's not you. It was like looking in a reflection, except your reflection had a much more sinister look to her.

Not to mention, she was coming out of the ground to grab you by the arms, and she begins pulling you down like a fisher reeling in his catch. Your dark reflection just grins as her mouth opens wider, and wider, and WIDER-

"GGAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!" You scream as your eyes snap open, only to wince back shut when light floods into them.

"You should lie back down. The healing process isn't over yet." You hear a calm, almost soothing voice.

IC realizes the danger of putting ourselves at the possibly mercy of companions again and would rather fight them with what we have proven pretty damn effective with rather than putting ourselves, our team and civilians at risk because we want to play with sparkles

IC also lost her magical powers by murdering her own Companion.
>>

She is not a ball of logic anon, she killed her own companion and detransformed to get away from what they were doing, and with her emotional state regarding her friends and having to fight them, I very much doubt she would see it as the Contractingness of +5 Stronk and equip it willy nilly.

IC misses her powers

>>30033730
Capture a companion, research it. Spin off some practical applications of that research. Yeah, it might not work. But why not make it a goal?

Like the other anon says. It evens the playing field significantly. We're only as good as we are because some of our former strength was permanent.

>>
>>30033715
Because Loki going "yeah, have power, and make me stronger, but you can just ignore that, promise"
Is a fucking serious red flag.
Using the juice, maybe more refined to avoid getting Loki'd would be leagues better than going "yeah loki, thanks for the power, no hard feelings"
Remember the juice is only in the initial research, if we have patience maybe we'll get something good out of the tech tree and not screw ourselves over "power at a price"
>>
>>30033753
>Capture a companion, research it. Spin off some practical applications of that research. Yeah, it might not work. But why not make it a goal?

Fine. We're in relative agreement then. Good enough for me

But, if we are going to do that, we should probably tell people that Loki is in our heads and talked about growing more powerful if we gain more magical powers.
Because the Loki problem can't be solved if we don't tell anyone about it. They might not be able to remove him, but we could at least deny him whatever he has planned.
>>
>>30033544
Wait a minute... that voice sounded familiar. You try to focus your vision more and your eyes finally begin to adjust to the light. You see that you're laying on a ridiculously comfortable bad as a very familiar face hovers over yours and smiles.

"Well, good morning Alice."

"Good morning, Mend Maiden." You grumble.

"Now please, Alice, I'd like to think that we're close enough that you can call me by my real name!" The Magical Girl tuts at you.

"Sorry, Mary." You sigh. "How long has it been?"

"You've gone almost eight months without a life threatening injury! I think that's a new record!" Mary beams.

"I guess that means I'm on the Prison Star, then."

"Yep!"

>Whoops, forgot to paste the text!

You sigh again. Mary... was a bit different from other Magical Girls. Her powers were completely non-offensive, for some reason or another. As a result, she didn't seem as violent or antagonistic as other Magical Girls. In fact, when you had cornered her, she gave herself up willingly. She was even willing to use her healing powers to assist the Bureau, though she refused to tell you anything about the Companions or their plans.

"You know, you really should be more careful next time." Mary sighs as she wipes some sweat off her brow. "The more times I have to heal you, the more resistant your body becomes to my magic."

"Yeah yeah." You grumble. "I don't suppose you're willing to talk to me about Hermes?"

"Sorry, that would violate my doctor-patient confidentiality." Mary says without breaking her smile.

You suspect those doctors' ethics she was taught when she was young had something to do with her willingness to be neutral about the whole conflict.

"Oh, I see you're awake. Having fun with Mary?" You hear ANOTHER familiar voice, this time filtered through an intercom. You turn to a large mirror panel, obviously one way security glass.

"Oh yeah, boatloads of fun." You grumble. "Now let out of here, Egan."

"Let's get the doctor's opinion first." Egan flatly replies.

"Well..." Mary shrugs. "I'd like to heal her up a little bit more, but it should be safe for her to move."

"I'll think about it. " You say as the cell door opens and then slams shut behind you. Outside, you see Egan with a pair of heavily armed guards. Egan tosses you change of clothes. Just a simple jumpsuit.

"Oh, yeah, she' s being processed right now. I guess we could swing by and let you visit." Egan nods. "But... well, you might not like what you see."

"What's that supposed to mean?" You narrow your eyes.

"I guess you should see for yourself." Egan says.

"Alright, lead he way." You say, leaning on Egan's shoulder.

"Can I ask what you're doing?" Egan blinks.

"Hey, injured personnel here. Plus, I nearly got killed protecting your little science project, so you do sort of owe me." You growl.

"Ah, you have a point there." Egan nods. "I was just a bit alarmed because I thought you were coming on to me."

"...what?"

"Let's go."

Egan leads you down the hall. It's actually not far since Heartlancer was apparently being processed in the medical module. And there, sitting on the bed in the room is Mirai, now only wearing a simple hospital gown.

"I have to warn you, Alice." Egan whispers. "Her memory has been significantly affected by the depowering process. I doubt she'll even remember who you are."

"What? How?" You blink.

"I suppose it's similar to the technique they use to erase short term memory." Egan explains. "To analogize, that ability is like deleting a file on a computer, while whatever her Companion did to her was akin to smashing the hard drive with a sledgehammer."

"Then what's going to happen to her?"

"We'll probably keep her under observation for a while, but since she has no powers and no memory, we'll probably transfer her to a facility Earthside. Even though her memory is gone, with a bit of therapy she's got a shot at a normal life."

"I... I see."

"Well, go on." Egan lightly shoves you toward the door. "I'll be waiting outside."

You nod, take a deep breath, and enter the room.

"Yeah, let's be friends again." You nod. What the hell, you might as well give it a shot.

"R-reallly? That's great!" Mirai smiles and hugs you. Jesus, she looked like a little kid. Wait. she practically WAS a little kid. You nearly forgot that powered MGs didn't age.

Jeez, it was going to look awkward hanging around a girl that looked four to five years younger than you.

You're then interrupted by a loud tapping. You look out the observation window and see Egan knocking on the glass and then pointing at her wrist to signify time was up.

"I'm sorry, Mirai, but have to go. But... I'll come back and visit soon, okay?" You say.

"Alright. I'll be waiting!" Mirai grins.

You then walk out of the observation room as a pair of nurses and a doctor walk in to do a scheduled checkup.

"I'll be sure to contact engineering about those faulty air filters. They don't seem to realize how sensitive some people's eyes are." Egan says flatly as you exit the room.

"T-thanks, Egan." You take a deep breath. "So I guess we wake Nemesis now?"

"Correct."

"Is that... a good idea with all these MGs on board?"

"Don't worry. Like I said, Nemesis was raised to operate on logic, not instinct." Egan tries to assure you. "Besides, if anything were to go wrong, we could simply jettison the module it's stored in, though that would be such a shame.

"I'm sure."

Egan leads you to yet another observation deck. This time looking into a chamber holding Nemesis' stasis pod.

"Just in time, Doctor Egan." One of the scientists nods. "We're about to start the awakening process."

"All right, but let's do it together, okay?" You grin. "I saved it, but you created it."

"Heh, you really know your way to a scientist's cold, dead heart." Egan grins. "Alright, on three."

"One...

"Two..."

"Three!"

Both you and Egan push down on the release button. The stasis pod hisses as its systems deactivate and the interior depressurizes. The pod door then swings open, revealing the black chitin clad monster within. At first, it doesn't move, until you see it shifting around. Finally, the Nemesis lets out a might roar (or yawn?) as it rouses from its slumber. Its exoskeleton cracks and creaks as it moves, pulling itself out of its pod and standing in the center of the room. It then begins sniffing the air.

"MaGicAL GIrrrlLLLLLssSSSss...." It hisses. "ExTERminaTE...."

"Nemesis. Stand down." Egan says he intercom. "Repeat, stand down."

"AckNOWLEdgeD." Nemesis nods and remains standing.

"See? Completely obedient." Egan grins.

"Um, Doctor Egan? Something's wrong." One of the scientists warns.

"What?"

The both of you turn back to see Nemesis staring up at the observation deck. right at you.

Specifically you.

"Uh oh..." Egan mumbles as her hand hovers over the DISENGAGE MODULE button.

Suddenly, Nemesis' chitin exoskeleton begins to crack and crumble, as if it were molting off.

"Um, is it supposed to be doing that?" You blink.

"No, it's never demonstrated that ability before..." Egan gasps.

Finally, the last bit of exoskeleton falls away, and what you see simply defies all explanation.

"Hi, Mom!" The girl standing where Nemesis used to be cheerfully waves at you.

"What." Egan pulls out a notebook and starts scribbling furiously.

"WHAT." You blink.

"What?" Nemesis tilts her head curiously.

it already happened, while Alice was unconscious, how do you think she got what she needed for nemesis?

Whelp Egan, looks like you somehow managed to break every single rule of biology there is to be broken.

Good work!

I remember saying that Nemesis would never replace our stalker bros, I stand corrected.

Well played Merc, well played.
