You are Percius Aurex, Captain of a raider-class pirate vessel. Formerly the 14th son of a noble family, you fled that life in search of adventure and to escape your status as a political pawn. Wait, no. That might not be the truth. Your father's letter to you, the son he believed dead and lost, may force you to reevaluate that view you've held onto for over half of your life. Emperor willing, you'll never actually have to do so without a drink nearby.

Having set the gears in motion for your XO to handle the post-conquest issues of your first prize ship, you made the short lighter hop over to the wolfpack leader's cruiser-sized transport ship to face Lord Wilson and your failure to capture or destroy the traitorous Captain Morix's ship nearly a year ago. Leaving out the unsavory details such as allowing Morix to escape past you without resistance and your purposely delayed chase of her vessel, you turned the conversation to your latest prize and the circumstances that led to its speedy capture. Lord Wilson lamented the loss of Erwin Estiban, his assigned handler for you and your ship, but shared that the young man expected you'd be a great pirate and that Wilson would need to watch his back once you 'hit your stride'.

The burn of alcohol masks the twinge you feel for allowing Erwin's killers to pass you uncontested, Lord Wilson offering a toast to Erwin. "I'll miss that funny accent of his, even if he turned it on and off at random."

"Yeah."
>>
"Now then, Captain Aurex. I believe we can finally have that Captain's meeting, now that you've returned."

Lord Wilson raises an arm and rocks a pair of fingers back and fourth, signaling his guards to open a door to what seems to be a waiting room. The slender form of Captain Pi Modori is the first to enter the room, followed by Captain Torl and finally Captains Hariso and Jacobs; your former Captain seems to be having another of his competitive exchanges with his rival, but his attention is quickly upon you. "Finally proving your worth, Percius? I hope you've not made enough to buy me off your back on a single ship!"

"Not quite, Captain Hariso. Miss Eberhardt has your share of the prize's wealth awaiting one of your lighters."

"Ah, you made a good choice in that one, Aurex. Brains and a nice rack! Not quite the best fighter, but you can't win them all!" Hariso laughs, slapping you on the back merrily. "Like that Morix, right Modori?"

Captain Modori's eyes narrow at Hariso. "Yes, it would seem so, Ree."

Everyone is soon seated and sporting a glass of wine, courtesy of Captain Hariso. "To Aurex and the first of his many prizes to come. Cheers!"

You sense that both Captains Modori and Jacobs are not too thrilled that you're the last rookie standing, though Captain Modori's eyes are normally a bit.. squinty. Or maybe she's been squinting the entire time you've ever seen her.

"Now then, I hereby bring this Captain's Meeting to order" states Lord Wilson. "Our agenda is as follows..."

"First on the agenda is the future of this wolfpack. Pi, dear, would you care to speak first?" Lord Wilson gestures to Captain Modori before taking a sip of his wine.

"Thank you, Rord Wirson." Captain Modori stands and flips a small panel up to reveal a set of controls within the table before her. In a moment, a holograph of the system is projected before you all. The view quickly focuses upon the asteroid belt that divides the world you orbit and the two gas giants of the system's Outer Reaches. "I berieve that we should focus upon acquiring the machinery and sraves to mine the asteroid belt of resources and estabrish a series of hidden bases within the bert's more dense zones, using the sraves upon the pranet to feed our freet for the time being. Beyond that, an outpost upon the first gas giant's resser moon courd be minimally crewed and used to detect vessers that arrive at our system." Captain Torl nods, though Captains Hariso and Jacobs frown at the plan. Lord Wilson retains a neutral expression as he thanks Captain Modori for her proposal.

Next is Captain Jacobs, who also reveals a set of controls at his seat. The holograph before you zooms to the planet you now orbit. "I feel we should focus upon the planet itself, aiming to secure the machinery required for us to set up a station in orbit or perhaps to move an asteroid into orbit and use that as a core for a station. With the use of Captain Aurex's mining barge, I estimate we could have an asteroid moved into orbit within a year's time." "But it wouldn't be able to mine during that time, and we need the metals it provides to expand our agri settlement" challenges Captain Torl. "This is true, but we could also mine the asteroid without travel time once it is moved" retorts Jacobs. Hariso seems more supportive of this suggestion, though Modori and Torl are clearly displeased by it.

Lord Wilson sighs, looking toward you. "Aurex, what do you think?"

>>

>Flashback

You nod, watching as all but two of Morix's men move on, a weak smile apparently your final exchange with Captain Jess Morix. A few meters later, she stops and turns. "I'm telling him about this system, just to be clear. And if you want to take his offer up later... He said that you'd know where you could find him again, Captain Menexel."

>end Flashback
>>
>>30023910
hmm, could we make something up to give them that information but disguise it so we're not brought into question like 'we heard from around the hallway, Captain Morix discussing telling someone, presumably the person she was running away to, about the system, when we rounded the corner to ask her about what we heard, her men killed E and knocked us out'?
>>
>>30024072

Well, folks kind of wanted to avoid any mention of actually talking to Morix, for fear of... you know, angering the wolfpack leader.

You are free to bring up what she said with a plausible way you'd have heard it... though I believe the story you told had you caught unaware and saved by Erwin's 'look out sir!' sacrifice.
>>
>>30024412
right then, scratch that plan, lets support Jacobs, and Hariso seems favorable towards it so we should side with him

gragh fuck you capcha
>>
>>30024745

"I believe I share Captain Hariso's sentiment upon the matter, Lord Wilson. Captain Jacobs' plan is more favorable for the wolfpack."

Wilson nods, using his own set of controls to investigate the holographic system. "We'll set Captain Aurex's barge upon the task once a suitable asteroid has been located, and from there we'll simply have to play it by ear and hope to secure the needed goods to further the plan." Switching the hologram to display your updated navigational data, Wilson points toward the Feophe and Serentus systems. "Captain Aurex's prize has provided us with updated information on the systems of the so-called 'Galian Salient', including the location of the fledgeling forge world of Feophe and the systems they are rumored to claim as mineral sources. There is also a rumor that the system of Serentus is undergoing colonization by pilgrim vessels, which could provide us with a healthy source of slave labor. I doubt we'll find many recruits for our crews among their number, but the crews of the ships themselves may provide for us there."

The Captains begin to study the distances between 'The Corridor' and the systems in question, each offering debate over the merits of lurking in ambush at different locations. The only thing they seem to agree upon is that Feophe is likely a poor choice for lingering, lest the Adeptus Mechanicus take notice.

>>

forgive me for asking but what do the re and green circles around the various systems mean?
>>
>>30025918
red/green rings (orbitals) mean the system has hostile/friendly space forces like ships and space stations

red/green dots (planets) mean that there is a hostile/friendly population on at least 1 planet in the star system.

I'm considering changing the 'star' portion of each system to the color of the star itself, but haven't gotten around to it.

I also notice that I need to update Steward's Gate to represent that they likely know you used a dead man's name to be friendly with them...

"What are the reports on the neighboring systems? It has been on my mind for most of my absence" you ask.

Captain Modori adjusts the holographics to display the two systems between Wilson's Refuge and Hariso's Sin, focusing upon the one almost directly above Wilson's Refuge first. "The only items worth note in this system are the pranet and moon, with the former possessing a rimited ecosystem adapted to its toxic atmosphere and the ratter having a smarr amount of riquid water present despite it's small size and row gravity. Three resser moons orbiting the pranet may possess resources, arong with the three asteroid crusters and asteroid bert present in the system, but we did not waste time prospecting due to rack of equipment." She turns the holographics toward the next system, which seems to lack any actual orbital projections save for dotted 'projected' orbits. "The second system has three pranets and a gas giant orbiting its star, though we were forced from the system by a squadron of ships dispatched from a station orbiting the pranet rocated in the Outer Reaches. From the scattered augur readings we managed to procure before departing, we berieve both the station and the vessers to be of xenos origin, possibly Erdar."

Captain Hariso clearly chuckles as Modori sits, sipping his wine to hide his smile before standing himself. "The systems nearest Wilson's Refuge are comparatively uninteresting. From right to left upon the sector map, the first contains two inhospitable worlds. Despite their pure atmosphere, there is no water that we're able to detect. Add to this that the system's anomalous star seems to produce roaming gravity riptides across the entire system and it is easy to conclude that this system is best avoided. The second system consists of only a pair of asteroid clusters and a trio of asteroid belts shrouded in a larger dust cloud. Due to damage sustained by the gravity riptides of the first system, we then turned back for repairs."

Captain Modori snickers at Hariso's last statement, prompting Lord Wilson to speak. "We've already lost all but one of our rookie Captains. Survival is our first priority lest we find ourselves alone out here. Let us speak of the habitable world we've got here and now, unless there are objections?"

None speak up, and Lord Wilson quickly pulls up a map of the planet's surface. Only the Agri Colony and your abandoned attempt at a camp are marked, though you mentally mark the anomaly you located upon the island.

"Now then, as Captain Aurex has provided this expedition with both data from a daring infiltration of Sector Paxia and a mining barge to provide for our fleet's upkeep and colony expansion, I'll be granting the first claim to him for the time being." The other Captains eye you with a mixture of jealousy and understanding, and a bit of pride on the part of Captain Hariso. "So, Aurex. What land will you claim first?"

It depends where you want to claim, really.

You could probably claim about half of the southern region that is white, if only because it is mostly snow, ice and mountains.

If you pick specific spots on a continent or islands, I'll center your claim for that round on that. In general, expect your claims on useful land to be roughly 1-2x the size of the island your Camp was located on.

Lord Wilson doesn't give you a chance to choose between the two remaining plots of land, claiming the region between Captain Torl's claims for himself and assigning the rest of the Western continent to you. The other Captains soon allow themselves to smile and make a few jokes between themselves, and you're certain at least one joke between Captains Torl and Jacobs is at your expense.

Hariso quietly slips you a note while drinks are refreshed. "Lucky guess on that peninsula in the southern hemisphere, Aurex. Have that Tes of yours cook us a meal when I come to collect my cut, would you?"

After a short break from any meaningful action, Lord Wilson again calls the gathered Captains to order.

Captains Modori and Jacobs both assure you they'll forward some offers after considering their current holdings and ability to crew the vessel, while Lord Wilson studies his data slate. "I could offer you a fair deal of trade, Aurex. Equipment for your crew, any settlement you wish to build, perhaps some more land? What kind of value do you place upon the vessel?"

"Keep it, Rookie" says Captain Torl. "Take what you can, when you can. The only thing worth a ship is another ship."

Damn, I'm burnt out from work today.

Will continue tomorrow after work, hopefully closer to the 4-5pm EST target.

[upon returning to your ship]
Elise Eberhardt and your sister Alica wish to speak with you about matters of the future. Will you invite any other members of your command crew to this little ambush or leave it as a small affair?
>>
>>30051083
>Catch Hariso before they depart the room?

we need to a) schedule that dinner he referenced in >>30046475 and b) ask him about that cryptic comment about it being a lucky guess to grab the peninsula on the mainland
>>
>>30052042
I'm tempted to say it sounds like the perfect time to have a round table with all the officers, but we should go in alone first in case is anything that should be talked about between the three of us.
>>
>>30052462
indeed, having our sister and the XO ask to speak to us about "matters of the future" is scary enough with out an audience

Captain Hariso laughs at your attempt to schedule his visit. "Thats what I like about you, Aurex. A good sense of humor and taste in officers! I'll stop by once I've sorted some things out with my ship and crew. Don't worry, I'll give you warning before I just show up."

Elise and Alica are awaiting your return, waving as you exit the lighter upon your vessel. "To what do I owe the pleasure of my XO and elder sister awaiting me so eagerly?"

Alica grins. "Well, knowing my brother as well as I do" "And knowing my Captain as well as I do" adds Elise. "We had a little chat about you and what you'd be speaking about with Lord Wilson, and the future of the wolfpack came up... along with some other information. I think we need to have a little chat about matters of the future, Percius."

You study your sister for a moment, then Elise, who simply nods her agreement. "If this is about that harem comment, that joke has run it's course."

"Unless you planned to add Jess to your harem as well, it doesn't."

Elise's confidence quickly withers under the glare you shoot her way, but her only response to Alica's mention of Captain Morix is a silent plea of 'it couldn't be helped'. Great. "Where are we doing this?" you grumble.

Once the three of you are sat around the ship's planning table and the room's thick armaplas pressure doors are sealed and manually locked, your sister gets right to business. "Elise told me everything about Morix, Percius. Including her little sabotage of the pursuit." Your XO shifts slightly at Alica's words, causing her to raise a curious eyebrow. "You didn't... oh. Well, that isn't important right now. What is important is that we sit down and figure out what the future of this crew and the two ships under the Aurex name is going to hold, considering Morix's little warning. So, Percius, when are you going to stop being an expendable follower in this little pirate gang?"

>Response?
>>
>>30065293
"You think we should take Morix up on her offer then and get out of this wolf pack?"
>>
>>30065293
Sometimes a wolf must part from their pack to form one of their own.

The transport is a start, but it still needs a crew as well as a Captain that won't lead her to ruin.
At the moment this planet is a homebase and until such a point where we decide to leave I would build upon what we have here.

When we do split with the pack I would hope it would be under better circumstances as I would rather keep a relationship going with those here.

Also mention the anomaly and how if it is confirmed to be what we think it is untold riches could be gained.
>>
>>30066383
Basically: Get the crew, get the ships, build up the planet, and form our own group?

Sounds like a plan to me.
>>
"You think we should take Morix up on her offer and get out of this wolf pack, then?"

Alica sighs. "That isn't what I'm saying, Percius. I'm asking what in the Emperor's name your damned plans are! You weren't raised to be some pirate's underling, neither were Synne or I." After a moment, she looks toward Elise. "No offense intended, Elise. It's... just the way that-" "It's fine, Alica. I know I'm no mere underling the way Percius is to Lord Wilson or Captain Hariso" smiles Elise.

"He'd probably forget how to do anything but wear hats without you" laughs your sister, giving your smiling XO a nudge with her elbow.

"Can we cease undermining my leadership and focus upon the subject at hand? Yes, sometimes a wolf must part from their pack to form their own. For now, the transport is a start. It still needs a crew as well as a Captain that won't lead her to ruin. At the moment we've also access to this planet as a homebase and until such a point as we decide to leave I would build upon what we have here." Pulling up the data you have on the anomaly, you continue. "When we do split the pack, I would hope it would be under good circumstances. Better to not burn the bridges to any good relationships we'll have with those here."

The women before you both nod, and you quickly slide your dataslate across to them before you lose the momentum you've gained in the conversation. "We've also detected an anomaly near our former camp site, which Orsola believes may be the raw material for anti-gravity plating."

Elise chuckles. "If you'll recall, Percius, I was standing right next to you when she said as much."

"I was under the impression that you were distracted by my hat and your dreams of building that still, Elise. If we could recover that anomaly and locate more, we could be looking at riches beyond our wildest dreams."
>>
>>30067095

"This still doesn't take into account that Morix planned to betray this world's location to someone. By now she could be nearing a neighboring sector or even on her way back with a fleet to crush the wolfpack!" objects Alica. "Don't let 'what ifs' blind you to the fact that this system will be compromised or already is."

>Response?
>>
>>30067130
Since this area is likely compromised then some precautions will have to be made. While we should still build upon the planet's surface as to make a place for the crew for the time being it should not be our only refuge. There are plans for a staion to be build and if it is done before anything comes for this system they could be encouraged to stay there for the most part.

Now if I am reading this correctly there are some things aboard the transport that might be useful in setting up a sort of outpost that is assuming they are still there. There was talk of possibly setting up a "outpost" upon the first Gas Giant's lesser moon to help detect ships entering the system.
>>
>>30067492

>outpost

You don't have any sort of augur systems capable of acting as an early warning outpost's eyes, short of stripping one of your ships of their augurs.
>>
>>30067650
Of course, but we "are" about to go hunting in a bit. If we could strip the Augurs off a ship that we damage it could be worth it. Just something to add to the list of things to loot.
>>
>>30067130
We're aware the system is compromised and its only a matter of time until its breached, which is why we're not spending all our efforts on getting a homebase fully built and furnished, because we can't stay here forever, let them know we intend to use some of the cargo we got from the prize ship to create a small settlement on the land we've got, at Camp Anawanna and we only intend for it to be fairly small, and readily abandon-able should we need to bug out.
>>
>>30067130

so how about this as a plan,

we place someone* in charge of the captured transport and give them orders to set up a small ground-side outpost at the location of camp anawanna, and orders to investigate the sensor anomoly on that island . We leave them a skeleton crew for the ship and ground duties and orders that if anyone appears in system that is not the wolf pack they run and we rendezvous at the uninhabited system to the southeast of wilson's refuge

* as for who the someone might be thats something we should discuss

Elise puts a hand on your sister's shoulder, prompting her to loudly exhale and finally sit back in her seat as your XO speaks. "We'll need to quietly locate our fallback position and keep it from the rest of the fleet, Percius. Then there is the matter of how we'll handle our assets in this system. Someone will have to remain behind to coordinate an escape unless we plan to simply surrender them to a potential enemy attack. On top of that it would seem we have a search and then extraction of anomalous minerals to conduct, along with any other resources we locate and wish to reclaim." With a sigh, she begins pulling up information on the transport. Your own mind churns out a plan during the short silence.

"How about this? We'll place someone in charge of the captured transport and give them orders to set up a small ground-side outpost at the location of camp anawanna, and have them investigate the anomaly on the island as well. Leave a skeleton crew for the ship and ground duties. If any ships appear in system and aren't with the wolfpack, they'll make their escape and we'll redezvous at one of the uninhabited systems nearby, perhaps this one here; It has plenty of asteroids and dust clouds to conceal the ship."

"I'll do it."

You look toward your sister. "You'll what?"

"I'll Captain the transport. You need your officers to run your ship, and you need someone you can trust in command of the vessel."

"We'll also need to leave people with the skills to extract the minerals responsible for the anomaly, and a transport is slow enough with a full crew. A skeleton crew may not be able to actually escape the system if any sort of chase is given" adds Elise.

>Orders?
>>
>>30068826
I say let our sister captain the ship and tell her if we are lucky we will be coming back with some people who have "joined" up as it were.

Just make sure to keep the crew in line and you should be good. Just have to pray that things don't go screwy while we are gone.
>>
>>30069414
also because we are operating with two other ships from the wolfpack we could travel a little light on crew and make sure that the transport is got the best chance in case it has to run
>>
>>30069414
>>30069475
sounds good, we should give her some of our loyal armsmen to help keep things in order if they need to

any other officers who should accompany our sister?
>>
>>30069475
Very true and since we will be hunting along with some of our fellow Captains soon it should be alright to transfer some of our crew.
>>
>>30069531
The very reason why one of our officer's isn't a captain is the same reason why we can't/shouldn't give her any of our officers. Currently we need them and can't spare them since we are going on the hunt.
>>
>>30069475

You'd need to transfer roughly 50% of your crew over to the transport to do so, which would essentially cripple your raider as far as pirate actions go.
>>
>>30069531
let give her half the firts company armsmen, and the rockhounds as well in order to assist any mining on planet
>>
>>30069677
huh ... well, lets stick to the plan as originally laid out, alecia takes command of the transport we transfer a minimal crew to operate the ship and construct a small ground base at camp anawanna we give her the rockhounds in order to explore any mineral from the anomaly. also 150 armsmen from the first company to protect her then we go get our pirate on
>>
>>30069741
>>30069893
these sound good in light of >>30069677
>>
Alica grins at your approval. "Give me the Rockhounds and Company Two and I'll take care of everything on this end."

Elise sighs. "We'll need to look into either getting the Nuggets and Rookies promoted to full armsmen and replaced as crew or having their gear assigned to dedicated armsmen. Will bring us well over the limit of our life support systems, but we can shunt excess onto the transport or even see about selling the armor toward the purchase of heavier suits from Lord Wilson or one of the other Captains."

"I can take care of that. Just tell me what you want and let me at them" boasts Alica.

>Orders?
>>
>>30070186

I say we demobilize the nuggets and promote the rookies to full armsmen.

i'm not sure about the idea of unleashing lord wilson on our sister, or vice versa. however using the gear from the demobilized armsmen to trade for enough carapace armor to cover all our officers plus some more half carapace
>>
I believe I'm going to call it here for the week, though I may sneak a post in before work if a consensus is reached on what to do about various armsmen

cya next week MS, we're slowly getting our shit together, maybe one day we'll be proper pirates, or most likely end up dead

>>30070647
I'll throw my vote in for this, on the raid we're doing with Hariso and the other captain, we don't want to be doing the brunt of the work, we want to work with them and get some experience for how they do things, if we can, we should go for a prize ship, but we should be cautious and safe about it
>>
>>30071392
>one day you'll be proper pirates

You're on your way, and your XO is there specifically to ensure you don't overlook things.

(You guys actually picked a very loyal XO, which helps make up for Eberhardt's lack of actual skill at times.)

Your sister probably just enjoys getting in your face over things.
