Character sheet: http://pastebin.com/zmJXHW8H (For Ja'al)

Your name is Ja'al, and you are in chains. Your... You don't know, really... is taking you to the castle.

The ride is slow, steady. Any number of people would want to hurt you, tip the carriage, or the like, so for safety's sake, the escort takes its time.

"I'll be getting your things tomorrow. For now, you'll have a room and some privacy." Gina says. "You're my responsibility."

"Why are you being so nice to me?" you ask.

"Because I pulled you out of your home and insisted on this date." she says, "It'd be unfair to blame what happened on you."

What, it's true.

Ok, just checked out Ja's sheet, is he limited to Force/Spatial/Gravity magic? And is his demonologist trait limited to subject familiarity and research, or can he actually summon stuff? If so what are the requirements?
>>
>>29948611
I'd have to say this. We kind of fucked up there, it's somewhat understandable but still our fault.

I look forward to more horrible rolls that ruin everything.

"You're too kind. I shouldn't have asked... I mean, I,... I really hurt those people. I could have... I nearly..."

"But you didn't kill them." Gina says. "You were scared and acting in self-defense. In a proper world, the guards would be seen at fault." she states. Her eyes are so stalwart and strong.

"I might have t-trouble helping the Prince if I'm in the castle."

"Demonology?"

You nod.

The art of Demonology is involved with spatial magic - you create wards and circles and summon demons into them for information or binding. It's a long process, and the truly 'innocent' cannot do it - hence why this whole mess happened. However, you know certain processes for pulling memories from soulstones, which take a lot of time.

Still, in a private space like this, you feel more confident and sure.
Rolls will not be required for social interaction while alone with Gina.

"I'll get your things. Anything I should know?"

Going back to >>29948464 "Because I pulled you out of your home and insisted on this date. It'd be unfair to blame what happened on you" reinforce the fact that we consider her blameless, that none of what happened is her fault. We knew how on edge we were and should have tried to steer the date to a location that we could actually relax and enjoy ourself at. This, all of this, is on our head, not hers.

"Touch nothing with bare hands." you say. "Make sure all the books are in a hidden location, or bring them to me. Instruments are not to be fooled with." you flush a little. "There is a hidden space beneath the bed. P-p-please do not look within." you say. "F-finally, I will need my clothes. They're family heirlooms that can withstand my magic."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, Forces blasts originate from the skin. My clothes can allow the magic through. Other clothes... Uhm." you flush deeper.

"Ah, I getcher." she says, nodding. "I'll be sure to handle it." she says with a smile. "I'll make you a meal when we get there." she adds. You find yourself smiling, even as the chains on your hands.

"One last thing. This isn't... th-this isn't your f-fault, Gina. I should have... shown you t-t-to a critter eatery, o-or something, a-and..."

Her hand on yours. Warm and callused, but her touch is soft. Your words stop in your throat, your face reddening.

"I can see why you and the Prince are friends." she says gently. "It's in the past, now. Who is at fault doesn't matter.

You stop at the castle, and Gina leads you out, taking you through the castle. After a few flights of stairs up, you're in the secondary guest quarters with a window to the sky.

"Anything else you want to say before I move your things?"

Spoilering semi-off-topic discussion.

Gina prefers "fur to scales". However, the critters shown so far include the pangolins, dragons, and birds, none of which have fur. Am I missing a critter? Is there a type of nonhuman sentient we haven't been introduced to? Or does Gina have a far darker, lewder pastime?
>>

"Just be careful. Demons seem to have it out for those soulstones and the artifacts."

"Then I'll just fight them." she says with a grin. You reach the room, and she closes the door behind her, showing you where everything is. It's a pretty big room.

You both seem to realize that you're in a bedroom together, alone, and a quiet tension builds.

She nods, sighing.
"We'll be seeing a lot more of each other."

"I don't mind seeing more of you." you say, then your eyes widen, and you stammer, wings unfurling as she giggles, then laughs outright. She swings her hips a little.

"Oh really~?" she asks, which only makes you feel smaller and want to hide more. "I know what you meant, Ja'al." she says softly, walking outside.

You get to work with the administrative side of things. Arranging some storage space near Ja'al is simple and takes very little time. As you're discussing locks and keys, Karl approaches. Your whole body stiffens.

"Mind explaining why that Alvin isn't doing the hemp dance yet?" he asks angrily. "I've three gaurds in my office, one who will need a new leg, another who might not walk again without some serious luck and diligence. I saw you give him a room, Gina."

As for what to say to him, something like: "There's a lot going on, and the Alvin is under my protection to assist with an investigation. Besides, if those guards hadn't been trying to abuse the boy in the middle of the street none of this would have happened."

"There's a lot going on, and the Alvin is under my protection to assist with an investigation. Besides, if those guards hadn't been trying to abuse the boy in the middle of the street none of this would have happened."

"And you have anything other than his word for that?" he asks. "Because those boys won't be quiet about this. As important as he might be - and as much as I might agree with his usefulness - there will be a lot of hell to pay when this gets out."

"But-"

"And I do mean /when/." he adds, sighing.

"Are you sure you're not just jealous?"

He gives you an odd glare.
"Do you think I even care, Gina? What I'm worried about here is what those boys will say, what really happened earlier today, and what sort of mess this will cause. Surely you of all people can understand that."

>>
>>29950312
"It's a mess, for sure. But I really don't think he deserves to hang for what boils down to a terrible misunderstanding. I was the one who dragged him out of his comfort zone and stuck him into that situation, so I should be the one to accept the blame here."

"I'll deal with it. I ought to have a talk with them anyway. They'd make a fuss either way, but if they believe he's been punished, it might help. And I saw everything - I can corroborate the Alvin's story."

He sighs and nods.
"Look, if you need any help, I'll be in the room."

"I think I can handle myself, Karl. I'm not sixteen anymore."

He nods.

You had come to the castle when you were very young. A prodigy on many levels, you're half-ogre. Halflings don't show it outwardly - they just have a measure of power from their critter parentage. You have a great deal more strength than your physical form can ever allow - your choice of weapon, an axe, takes advantage of this. But when you were younger, you were prone to accidents, harming yourself, and the like.

And Karl was there. Despite your parentage and his own beliefs, he always treated your torn muscles and dislocations. Maybe it's that he never had children himself. He doesn't seem to age, and you're not even sure why.

You walk into the room and the three guards stare at you. One of them is missing his leg entirely. His chart mentions infection.

>>
>>29950642
Alright, don't lie outright, but be vague enough that they are left thinking that he's being held in a cell or something and awaiting interrogation. Chide them for their unprofessional conduct regarding critters, and then apologise for the entire situation.

They nod.
"I would prefer this be kept quiet. We don't need riots."

Another nod. "Good. Let the good doctor see to you." you say, sighing as you leave. You finish off setting up the storage space, preparing the carriage, and the rest. That being done, you prepare Ja'al's meal.

You smile, kissing and nipping at his ears and the base o his wings, your hands sliding down his back slowly.
"Oh?" you murmur. "And if I keep them?"

"W-w-well... You... Uhm... You have the... the only k-key..." he manages, between soft gasps.

"And if I dress you up myself?"

No comment, though it elicits quite a moan. You kiss at his neck, his collar, gently unbuttoning his shirt. Along the back, as well, there are buttons above his wings, which you carefully undo for his jacket and shirt, slowly sliding it off his back and shoulders.

He's so slim and smooth... You side your fingers over his bared chest, his top hanging off his wrists as he writhes.

You grin as you kiss his chest, his voice quiet and soft as he makes affirmative little sounds.

You pull off his shirt and jacket entirely, turning him around and kissing his neck. His wings press against your breasts as you move to his upturned lips, smiling wider as your hand slides over his belly slowly.

"You're..." your hand slides over the fastener and just past it, fondling gently. "All." it goes back up to undo the fastener. "Mine." you growl, giving him a little nip on the neck.

... ... ...

My, but the poor boy tired quick. Only two rounds, and he's fast asleep. Cute, though, curled up like that. You kiss his cheek, dressing quietly as you slip outside, a wide grin on your face. You've never felt quite this upbeat after a man, stretching as you walk. You put his clothes away in your room, humming as you head down to the carriage.

Today was a good day.

You make your way to his shop, slipping inside with a helper, Geralt. Geralt's been on the city force for many years, and is one of the few sympathetic to critters you know of - he has an Appal wife.

How he told her apart from male Appals is beyond you.

"Welp. I'll pack up the books, you handle the fiddly shit." he says, opening a chest near the entrance.

A shame, for any girl that might have spurned him, he was wonderfully careful and... Well, he put you first. You don't find that in many men these days.

You lift the bed with one arm, setting it down on the other side of the room, and check out what he has beneath.

...Oh. OH.

He... apparently has a fetish for public nudity.

Hrm.

And the destruction of clothing. My.

You smile, putting the books back with care, and the bed, which you take the sheets from. After that, you move to the kitchen, gathering up his utensils and supplies, leaving the storefront.

"Alright." he says. "Here I go."

He stamps his foot, blue lines tracing a line through the wood, making a circle. Runes appear within, and with another motion, he throws a soulstone into the circle, where it freezes in the centre.

You've not been one for magic. It was never your strong suit. But Ja'al's face is strong, confident, sure of himself - handsome in a way you don't remember. In romance, he is a blushing, stammering virginal boy.

In magic? He is a /man/. His hand reaches behind him, and a staff appears in it, pulled from storage as he weaves his magic. Power from the air around you both filters into the circle, and soon enough, a formless body is made around the crystal.

"Tell me, bound demon of warriors!" he calls. "Who summoned thee, and who set ye against thy target?"

"Wood Worm." the creature says. "Wood Worm pulled us from the Hells themselves, calling us by name! The names we held in life!" it says. "Wood Worm told us we could have revenge! We offered no price!"

"What?" you manage. "Didn't you say these things were after Annelin?"

Ja'al frowns.
"Who is Wood Worm?"

"Friend and ally! Friend and ally!"

"Tell me where he is!"

The creature stares at Ja'al, then smiles - an otherwise featureless face growing a long gash.

And then it reaches up and snaps its own neck, shattering into tiny pieces.

Ja'al looks on, shocked.

He summons their demons, after spending about twenty or so years to perfect the art, trying to get it just right. And he sends them after the one the demons hate most."

"I can't." you manage meekly. "I'm sorry. I can't go back there. I would, if I could, but..."

Micheal turns to you, taking your hand.
"It's fine. We'll send an official party to root out the bastards."

"I just... I..." you can't grasp why this hurts so deeply. "I, Micheal, I should be able to do this for you. If I can't even do this one thing, hunting down one demon-summoning Appal..."

"This is special circumstance." he says softly. "I understand completely. You don't want to go back, because of how it feels to you."

"Still, who can we trust?"

"We'll send Karl." Micheal says. "He does this stuff all the time - if there's anyone I trut to hunt down a threat to the crown, it's him."

"The mine is a few days away." the prince states. "In the interim, Gina shall stand in for you. William will work in the medical office." he says with a sigh. "I'll miss you." he says. "We will get started as soon as the necessary preparations are done."

Micheal rises and stretches.

"At least I'll have Monica for company."

Why does that comment sound so... Why does it make you twinge a little? You shake off the feeling and rise. "Go on ahead and talk with Karl."

You stand and make your way to Karl's office. He's washing his hands of some blood, a young man leaving with an artificial leg.

He snaps shut the book he was holding, and golden gossamer covers his form.

"It'll be a few days, and if you don't go 'magical rascist' on me, I would appreciate it." you say. "We have to travel to some old Appal mines."

He nods, crossing his rather strong arms.
"Weather is cold these days." he admits, "I'll have to wear a jacket." he walks over to his cupboard, pulling out a long, red, heavy overcoat, which goes to the back of his knees. "And I'll need these..." twin scimitars, which he puts on a swordbelt and fastens it around his waist. He pauses, thoughtful.

"Annelin, we'll be spending a few days together. Any bad feelings, I want them on the table now."

The king seems to want someone else to take his place because he sees the prince as weak, and Karl seems to think that they advice we're giving the prince on not being as big a dick as his ancestors is soft and naive to the point of being a massive threat to the stability of everything. Neither of them want a "soft on critters" prince, and Karl would probably take the king's side over the prince's.
>>
>>29957682
I just said them, i don't like your racist views about critters.
>>

The King wants his son to prove himself more than anything. Giving the throne to someone else is just his way of ensuring his empire survives even if his son fails to live up to his expectations.

>>
>>29957682
Tell him what that demon in the temple told us about the King's ancestor. That seems to go against any sense of Law I can think of, but we'll see if he considers it an unfortunate incident, but the past is in the past, or he sees nothing wrong with it.
>>
>>29957682
We really should stop being such a bitch to him, because when we talked to him during the fight, he wasn't THAT closeminded.

Making an enemy out of him won't do us any favors.
>>
>>29957682
I'm concerned that Law wants 'critters' to be stamped out as opposed to converted. I'm annoyed that you assumed that I want an uprising.

I want equality but I won't allow my views to in any way Harm the prince. I honestly hope to we can get along but I think we've made some misteps around each other because we don't really know one another very well.
>>

"I trust you will do what is best for the royal family, and I know you might not mean to come across the way you do. Part of me would like to see what more there is to you beyond religion, another part isn't sure I'll like what I find."

He chuckles, walking past you and closing the door.
"What I say must not leave this room." he says, sitting down. "My full name is Karl Andelbright Sol. I am three hundred and forty five years old."

"That... That cannot be possible." you manage.

"And yet it is. I have served under Law for three hundred and twenty years. During that time, I was, as you have said, a 'magical rascist'. There was a time, when humanity was smaller, that we indeed needed to expand. We breed faster than any other race, and we live shorter lives. We consume more, we take more room than the tunneling Appals and the tree-dwelling Alvin. Our rise as a race was on the backs and the bodies of those races we were able to defeat."

He takes a drink of water. "And to those tribes of man who were loyal to Law, I was their weapon. I have seen atrocities, beauties, and everything in between. And while I do not regret my position, it is only in the last hundred or so years that things have reached a point where interspecies relations are even possible on a political level." he says, "Gods can falter just as mortals can. Perhaps worse. I was made for a very specific purpose - I was a weapon, a reward to those tribes who swore themselves to Law. I am human on every level save my psuedo-immortality. Trust me on this matter, I have tested it quite rigourously. At any rate... As someone built and made and created for killing nonhumans, this recent turn has left me... Perplexed. Confused. Please."

He looks up at you. "Understand that this old sword is frightened of rusting dull."

On Central? Appals. Small, with some fur, and very warm.

On all continents? young Fels. They grow a thick, fluffy coat in the months after birth and lose it as they age. Very young ones are like literal balls of fluff.

Critters fear the law more and have it /applied/ more often, but all follow the same laws.

>>
>>29959061
>Where do the Alvin come from?
They come from the forests. Many forests on Central were leveled for charcoal and the like. The Alvins were not able to defeat the Magebreakers among the human ranks.

>Can you also give us more information on Ogres?
Ogres are big dudes whose bones are made of a much stronger material than humans. They are also magically strong - more powerful than their mass would hint. An Ogre with a polehammer could easily be a seige engine.

>Considering Gina is half human, how common are interracial relations in this setting and what is public reaction like?
Very taboo and somewhat rare.

>We seem to be ending rather early today. Will you run tomorrow or will there be another thread after a break?
I'm trying to tone down my run speed. For a while, it was dominating my life.

>>29959114
>I don't think you've mentioned Fels before, what are they like?
Feline humanoids that live on the same continent as Dra. They are mostly tribal folk, who practice shamanistic rune-based magic, and fight primarily unarmed and unarmored.

>The Sealed Lord Annelin used was keyed to kill Appals, right? What happened, or would happen, to any half-Appals in the area?
...I don't want to consider that.
>>
>>29959159
how many continents are there? what races live on each?
>>
>>29959233
There are five, and Central sits in the middle of them all.

On Central are the humans, ogres, appal, lesser Dra, and the alvins.

On the eastern continent (or west., whichever I mentioned earlier) are the true dra, the fel, and a few other races I've not revealed yet.

The others each have three to four.

As for Karl, I can understand why he'd still hold onto old views and whatnot. Don't like him for it, but I can see where it's coming from. Still, I suppose there's room for character development.
>>
>>29959475
Well Karl went from a hollow fetish character to a uber-powered super racist, and then became the equivalent of a old war vet who just can't trust the people he's spent his entire life fighting wars against.

He's gotten a lot more depth as a character and he's infinitely more interesting for it.
>>
I'm so glad to see Karl came out so well. It's almost exactly what I was aiming for: A reliable, charming asshole, who's trying to not be an asshole.

Micheal is very easy for me to write, being based on a character from when I was a wee freeform player on certain forums, and I'm glad he's coming across so well as well.

I'm very sorry for the fadeout, but smut strikes me as one of those 'got it or don't' things, so while I like writing foreplay, I don't trust myself to write the act.

For the smutwriter: No, Ja'al does not have a duck-dong.
>>

one more question.

Are there any features on Gina that would tell anyone of her ogre blood?
>>
>>29959738
Nope.

Humans have incredibly dominant genes for the physical side of things. Magic is where critters triumph - the soul, which determines things like her crazy strength.

Karl has provided her with a 'magical' bracer that appears to grant her more strength to make her strength not nearly as inexcusable.
