>EotE, AoR, SAGA, and anything else to do with a galaxy far, far away.

Old thread died, time to start a new one.
>>
Thinking of running a post-Vong era campaign here. Should I bother trying to upgrade the T-65's stats to reflect the upgrade to the XJ series? Also, how would you stat the E-wing?
>>
What does /tg/ think would be the amount of bounty put on a Pirate whos raided several Imperial convoys, busted some Neb-B's (were ~5 BBY), and tore a giant hole in a Star Destroyer from Imperial Intelligence?
>>
>>29945380
One million credits and an autographed holo of Ysanne Isard?
>>
>>29945380
He's rocking the Most Wanted list like a champion. A single Neb-B would have been enough for that. We're talking on par with Han Solo, and he was worth $250,000.

That bounty is going to attract the BHG, (if it still exists. Post-both, it doesn't), they'll have a team of their best on it. And every independent hunter with more balls than brains will be after him.

He just became a free-fire zone.
>>
>>29945438
*Hoth. Fuck you, autocorrect.
>>
>>29945380
Someone that dangerous is too much of a threat to trust to mere hunters. The Sector Fleet will be actively hunting this guy, and now Imperial Intelligence is going to want him too. That means their Assassination department. Assassin droids and elite operatives are likely. And they'll be competing with the Navy and Bounty Hunters to get him first.

Holy fuck. That guy is in a galaxy of hurt.

my buddy and I came up with a quesion while playing x-wing the other day. Why didn't vader simply use the force to crash luke's x wing or just force choke him?
>>
>>29946501
"Are the crew's safety harnesses secured?"

"Yes, Captain."

"Very well. Begin evasive maneuver Topsy Turvy!"
>>
>>29946522
Could be ego. Remember, Obi-Wan said that Anakin was "the best star pilot in the galaxy". Some small part of him may have still been very proud of his piloting skills, thus why he sortie'd himself to deal with Luke. Perhaps he wanted to prove to himself that he still had it, that he could smack down this jumped-up crop duster.
>>
>>29946522
Because that's not narratively satisfying.
>>
>>29946522
Might be an issue of timing and targeting. Did Vader still have the Force chops to catch as fast as an X-wing with the Force before Luke could fire off his torps?
>>
>>29946522
He was focusing on keeping his wingmen from ramming into him, because he chose a line abreast formation inside a fucking trench. Then Han Solo crept up on his back door and the rest is history.
>>
>>29946641
>>29946640
>>29946598
>>29946584
>>29946522
Speaking of which, why didn't the other Rebel pilots notice three TIEs heading right for the trench and blast Vader the second he started going after Gold Leader?
>>
>>29946736
Too busy trying to stay alive in the dogfight. And if I remember right, the first run gets the word out about the TIEs so everyone else tries to adapt strategies to deal with it.
>>
>>29946736
Probably too busy trying not to get shot down by the TIEs they were already engaging.
>>
>>29946736
Everyone was already tied up with trying not to be sandwiched between towers and TIEs. The only one on the ball was Han Solo.

The real question is why Vader entered the trench at all, since he has nothing to fear from the towers and he could freely target the X-Wings from well above the trench while having plenty of room to maneuver. If Vader had flown above the trench instead, he could have kept the trench towers firing and leisurely picked off the X-Wings while hundreds of wingmen clustered behind him like a ball of cliff racers.
>>
>>29946796
>like a ball of cliff racers

>>
>>29946780
>>29946776
but the only fighters that the imperials sent against rebels were the ties from the black squadron, and that's not more than 15 ships(which got mostly shot down) and the rebels had about 30 ships..
>>
>>29946838
>rebels had about 30 ships
Most of them were crewed by nobodies (and Porkins). The only remotely competent pilots around were probably Luke, Biggs, Wedge, Keyan Farlander, and Garven Dreis. And maybe Porkins if you count his EU appearances.
>>
>>29946827
Nerevar - Luke
Vivec - Obi Wan Kenobi
>>
>>29946885
>And maybe Porkins if you count his EU appearances.

It never ceases to amaze me ho the EU turns basically everyone with the merest hint of screen time in the movies into this exemplar badass. The two pilots flanking Vader, one of who did absolutely jack shit, and the other one who managed to slam into Vader when he tried to dodge the Falcon? Both real top gun aces apparently. They sure showed that in the movie.
>>
>>29947101
Technically Vader slammed into him.
>>
>>29947150
>I'm sorry for hitting your fist with my face
>>
>>29945777
>>29945807
So, do you think hes beaten Mon Mothma on the Imperials "to kill" list?
>>
>>29947101
I love how EU stuff plays up how super competent TIE pilots are. They're apparently the best of the best, with only like 1% of the entire applicant pool actually being accepted into the fighter program.

And then other EU sources bring up how as soon as they become pilots they turn into expendable drones with no sense of self-preservation.

Though that's just EU fanwank. In the movies, it's clear that they're just pilots; guys on the same tier as most Rebels with the often unfortunate missions of going up against guys like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.
>>
>>29947257
To be fair, if you survive several missions in a death trap like a TIE, you're probably qualified for "certified badass" status.
>>
>>29947257
>only like 1% of the entire applicant pool actually being accepted into the fighter program.
That's pretty much in keeping with real world militaries. Only the best fly fighters. The rest fly cargo planes and shit. A good chunk of rebel pilots are former Imps who defected.
>>
>>29945762
In the movies, it's implied that Boba Fett is a mid-tier bounty hunter at best. He found out where the Falcon was going because he's slightly a cut above the rest and realized that the infamously slippery Han Solo was gonna try to pull a fast one. Doesn't change the fact that he got taken out like a chump because he tunnel visioned and that he apparently has to be constantly reminded not to disintegrate the people he's being paid to capture.

But people thought he looked cool and twenty years later there's a billion books viciously jerking off to him. I fucking hate Mandalorians.
>>
>>29946522
because that movie was made before the EU turned Jedi and Sith into Super Saiyans. There was a lot more restraint and mystery in how the Force worked back then.
>>
>>29947339

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mo10xiHvR_c
>>
>>29947296
But real world militaries don't treat their fighter pilots as expendable cannon fodder. I mean, in the movies the Imps are never really shown as being overly empathetic about their men (they're the bad guys in a fantasy adventure story; we don't need to sympathize with them). But I think the attitudes they apparently had were the result of a bunch of EU writers who got tired of the "Empire did nothing wrong" bullshit wank and decided to up the grimdark a bit to reinforce the fact that the Imps are the bad guys.

I agree. Here's a litmus test I use in every discussion about Star Wars fiction:

1. Is it in the movies? Or.... tv show I guess.
2. Is it mentioned in the movies/tv show?
3. Can it be guessed/extrapolated from the presented material movie/tv show?

If there is no indication of Boba Fett being nothing more than a mid-tier bounty hunter apart of a wider warrior culture, then its Travis-wank. In Fett's defense, he was called in by Vader, who knew his reputation for disintegrating targets like a dumbass. So he's got a reputation for... something.
>>
>>29947436
Atill, you need a lot more transport pilots and shit than you need fighter pilots. And when you have the sheer number of applicants the Empire has, you can be picky and still get a LOT of pilots.

The fact that Vader called him and the others in personally is certainly a testament to his capabilities for getting the job done; the but the same can be said for Dengar, Bossk, that big cockroach-looking motherfucker (who probably has his own trilogy or something) and the others. The fact that he was the one to find Solo shows that he probably is more intelligent than those guys, but that doesn't mean he's this near mythical figure that kills a dozen Jedi every morning, saves a planet every day after lunch, and bangs a different twi'lek every night.
>>
>>29947586
>bangs a different twi'lek every night.

The Robot Chicken Star Wars bits completely slay me. It's really clear that the creators both love the source material and are really in tune with with disenfranchised masses of the Star Wars culture.

I remember Green was working on what was basically an entire show of Robot Chicken-style Star Wars skits, but in CGI and aimed at a wider audience (and with Billy Dee as the voice of Lando). This was before the Disney buy-out though, so I really hope it wasn't canned.

My players decided to play an Empire-centric campaign and, as expected of most players, they fucked off to do what they wanted instead of playing along with the adventure. Their idea, however, was far more interesting than mine: Top Gear Empire Edition. I need plot hooks, guys. Lots of plot hooks.

Fett wasn't demanding anything; he was at best pointing out that he would prefer it if Solo didn't die and was at worst griping. Vader simply responded by saying that if he died the Empire would just pay him whatever Jabba was going to. True, Boba doesn't get cowed by Vader, but it's not like he's telling the guy to go fuck himself. Fett's a professional working with a client, Vader is a guy using his resources, and the two treat each other accordingly. It's a professional relationship.

My go to example is kyle katarn. In Jedi Knight, with great exertion, he can jump great heights, cast a bolt of lighting, use a mind trick, push and pull, and he can awkwardly wave his saber. then, In JK2: Outcast, he can jump 9 times his own height engage 4 dark jedi assassins at once, take out platoons of storm troopers, throw his light saber more effectively than he can shoot a gun, and my favorite, force lighting arcs that last several seconds and can launch enemies into the air. don't get me wrong, I fucking LOVE jedi outcast, but in a table top, I would love to play a jedi on katarn's level in the first jedi knight (or even a bit weaker). Which system would let me do that?

There's still extra factors that make the number not that silly in SW.
The Empire is HUGE, and the Imperial Academy is pretty much the only way to become a fighter pilot, thus there number of applicants is fucking insane. Even the much smaller number, those who get in, is absurdly vast. Now, the Imperial military needs barge drivers, shuttle pilots, et cetera, and there would logically be FAR more billets for these jobs than for TIE pilots. A busy military station likely has multiple tugs running 'round-the-clock, so that's at least three billets per tug right there. Each TIE only has one assigned pilot. They take the top 1% because that's the percentage they actually have TIEs for, and you'd have to be stupid not to take the best ones even if they are cannon fodder. The rest they put in other jobs.

X-wings, even in the New Republic Era, were rare, expensive, and slow to produce, according to the X-wing novels. Wraith Squadron had a hard time replacing four during its first three months of service. It's not exactly the sort of thing that EotE's smugglehobos can just buy easily.

He does that in Jedi Knight as well. And you could argue that even though he's basically just regained his powers, he's still one of the most experienced Jedi Knights alive. Fighting seven Dark Jedi and given a crash course in Force usage by a ghost tends to do that to a person.

That said, I would LOVE to have a tabletop group where we could have an adventure like Jedi Knight. But my main problem is a) schedule and b) I'd prefer face to face. And given that I know next to no one....

>Shortly after the ceremony, Han took Luke to the Red Rancor cantina, where he and Antilles had arranged a surprise bachelor party featuring numerous guests, including members of Rogue Squadron, Jedi, and other old acquaintances. The festivities had barely begun, however, before a swoop gang picked a fight with the group, causing a huge bar brawl. With many Jedi, Rogues, and smugglers involved, the bachelor party quickly overpowered the swoop gang, though, during the ensuing fight, Luke had sustained a bruise to his eye and the party left the cantina before media attention was attracted. Mara was displeased to find that he had been fighting and urged him to take it easy.

I actually like the character concept of Tionne. And Kam and Streen.
Tionne - a woman who isn't as strong in the Force but she knows the HISTORY! The thing that Luke desperately needs and she knows a good chunk of it, songs, stories, ballads, koans. Bitch be invaluable.
Kam: prodigal son of a Jedi Knight, his arc is about learning to trust himself again and be a better man. Love it.
Streen - a goddamn WIZARD! He's a fucking wizard with his weather shit and he's in Star Wars and it's AWESOME.
Why couldn't the rest of the Jedi Academy series been like that? You're killing me, Anderson! You're KILLING me!

I'll admit to being kind of a Kam fangirl, to the point where I give Dark Empire a pass on it's general "eh"ness (it can be fun in a goofy way, and had a couple cool bits, but is overall really mediocre) simply because it has more info on his background in it.

The first one is just Fett stating a fact: Jabba's bounty is for Han Solo alive. Sure, the Imperial bounty was big, but while one bounty is good, two bounties are better. Fett just wants see if Vader's getting ready to kill the guy.

The second one is a simple question, followed by a statement of fact, simply reiterating the concern expressed by the earlier fact.

The most that can be said is that Fett is a consummate professional who doesn't frighten easily and treats all his clients the same, no matter who they are.
>>
>>29963746

It's picking up steam. The biggest problem it's facing is that Game of Thrones is still pretty big as LCGs go, and Netrunner came out around the same time as Star Wars and EXPLODED; between the two, there just isn't a lot of room for it to muscle its way in. But, as time goes by, Star Wars is creeping up the ladder.

It doesn't help that we have to wait so long between force pack cycles, though. The metagame's been stagnating for a while without new cards. The new cycle will kick off pretty soon, though, so it should be fine.

It's a good game, but there are some caveats to keep in mind: Scum & Villainy is pretty much strictly terrible as a faction, at least at present. People don't even splash it. Meanwhile, Sith is by far the most powerful dark side faction, to the point of almost dominating the DS metagame. On the light side of things, Jedi have been flopping around since the beginning, struggling to present a consistent offensive that is hard to disrupt, while the Rebels went through a period of great popularity thanks to snowspeeders and Hoth stuff. What REALLY came out of the Hoth Cycle and Edge of Darkness, though, was the rise of Smugglers & Spies as a faction: every deck runs at least some of their stuff, if not majority S&S. It's not as dominating as Sith are on DS, but it's a pretty big deal.

Sith Control vs. S&S sneaky vehicles is the current top deck matchup, pretty much.

Part of the issue is that Seth Green started to feel iffy about the project; in the past few years, he's been approached by a lot of parents who showed their kids Robot Chicken or Family Guy Star Wars before showing them the real thing, and he realized that there were a lot of kids who were going to be encountering ironic interpretations of not just Star Wars, but also stuff like He-Man, without first having a chance to meet them sincerely.

He didn't say he feels BAD about it, just that he feels WEIRD about it. So, at the very least, it's being postponed so the sequels will have a chance to get out there.

Hm. Maybe the Ison Corridor Ambush scenario from the Rogue Leader video game, then? At least there, the team will be backed up by Wedge, Luke, and Expendable Pilot #5. Maybe Hobbie and Wes, too, if I'm feeling generous.

About to run an EotE campaign. Will be my first time as a GM. Convinced some friends who don't usually RP to give it a try and asked for back stories. I was pleasantly surprised.

Tall Friend: Plays a Pilot and has a backstory of basically being witness to the murder of an Empire VIP by an as of yet unknown mystery party. Empire wants him for questioning and he needs to figure out who the third party is in order to clear it all up. Good motivation and even asked me to decide who the third party is so he can be surprised.

Demented but Fun Friend: Plays a Gand who follows a sect where he must kill one person per planet he sets foot on. Hmmm, interesting. We'll see how I adapt to that.

Special Snowflake: He plays an assassin droid built by the same man who designed the Death Star. And he has an experimental power core that's as strong as a Star Destroyer. And he was, like, totally designed to impersonate Darth Vader and assassinate people to spread fear! And when he wouldn't follow orders, he blew up an entire asteroid base and survived because his shield just absorbed all the energy. But now he is damaged and on the run (i.e. a starter character). I'm loving this sh@# because I can see in his eyes that he wants to rewrite the rules to let him become the ultimate badass again. And I am going to crush that dream. So hard.

Thanks! Been gaming since I was 15 and really want to try GMing. I recently got into EotE and knew that Star Wars was cat nip to Tall Friend who's usually hesitant about these games. I'm starting with the adventure at the end of the book and already have ideas for new adventures. Really looking forward to it. And I'm not planning on screwing the Special Snowflake's character. I am however going to put my foot down on him only using available rules and items already in the book.

In the old X-Wing game, you actually fly the Redemption run, not as a sim, but an actual mission - when I read the books, I had played the game, and was instantly familiar.

X-Wing Alliance was really fun. It had the Ship Of The Year, All Years; the Otana. It also had my favorite mission: Battle 1 Mission 3. Your objectives? Take this A-Wing and go buzz a bunch of Star Destroyers.
Oh yeah, and destroy all their probes.

You can totally play XWA without a joystick. I just have a dinky Sidewinder gamepad and my keyboard and I can run rings around enemy ships.

>X-wings, even in the New Republic Era, were rare, expensive, and slow to produce, according to the X-wing novels.
I don't recall that at all, and I'm rereading them right now.

I think it was more a logistics issue with a massive war going on than the actual difficulty with manufacturing the craft themselves.
>>
>>29982514
Quoting from Iron Fist here:
"No new X-wings for the foreseeable future. We got lucky when we were putting [Wraith Squadron] together; when Rogue Squadron captured Ysanne Isard's facilities on Thyferra, we also seized a number of X-wings she'd been accumulating for various Intelligence missions. That's where four of our snubfighters came from. But the New Republic hasn't had another windfall like that, and Incom is producing new X-wings as slowly and meticulously as ever."

For Wedge, at least, the main problem lies in Incom's production speed.
>>
>>29982616
Quality takes time.
Though you'd think that now the New Republic is in charge, they'd be able to afford more workers....

That's not how red eye works. It's caused by a reflection off the retina. If that were the glasses, it would be white, and it's entirely the wrong angle for it to bounce off the glasses, into the eye, back out to the glasses and back to the camera again. That's barely even possible.
