You are Gertrude Pool, Sophomore Class President and new commander of Lafayette Girls Academy’s revived Tankery Team.

You have just won the first match against William Adams Naval Academy. The adrenaline has finally managed to leave your body, and you do end up feeling a bit tired as the truck drives back to LGA. You and your staff sit in the truck, feeling utterly victorious.

Nancy sniffles a bit. “I’m so glad! I thought we were dead for sure!” She dabs her eyes a bit with her handkerchief.

Lisa nods. “Yeah. But hey, that was just the first match, you know?”

“Ah, Lisa,” you say. “Don’t spoil it. Let’s have today and tomorrow, yeah? At least learn to celebrate things.”

Kitten peacefully sleeps, leaning on your shoulder. Poor girl’s probably exhausted.

Ask what the rest of the crew thinks, run it by Darjeeling too.

You wrap your arm around Kitten and then softly pet her hair. She flutters her eyes open for a second, then closes them. She scoots closer, nestling into you for comfort. You sigh happily. “So girls. I do have to say, it was a tough game. Those cruisers were really something.”

Nancy nods. “We went into the town where their advantage in speed was neutralized. They were still great at closer quarters though. If they managed to draw us out into the fields, we would’ve been toast for sure.”

“Well,” says Lisa. “Today our Hellcat should be finished. Definitely a lot faster than anything they can put out.”

Nancy smiles. “Oh yes, the Hellcat! One of the fastest road speeds ever, even modern tanks have trouble keeping up with it!” She says, “Funny story. It took years to try and convince the ITL to make the American Tank Destroyer line Tankery-legal. The compromise happened to be the M18 Hellcat (S) Conversion.”

Lisa says, “Yep. Maybe with some luck, we’ll find ourselves a Wolverine or a Slugger on the market.”

You feel the truck lift a little. You must already be on the loading elevator.

Lisa asks you, “So, Boss. Think we can pull that off again another five times this tournament?”

Goddamit you faggots. you were panicking all over the place and the Aces had to carry our sorry asses in the last half of the match, but at least we won.
>>
>>29934713
Are you surprised that the Aces carried us? It was kind of expected.
It's not like the rest of us have much experience.
>>
> Boast

You nod. “Of course. Hell, we’ll do even better. We won’t get knocked out at the last second and then have to get our asses saved by our more experienced crew. We can definitely do it.”

Lisa nods at that, looking out the back. You suppose that’s as good as it’ll get.

Your truck is loaded back onto LGA along with the others. As it drives along the street, it’s mobbed by a lot of cheering students who chant your name and cheer for you. Mostly Naval Studies students again but you do spot General Studies here and there.

But what’s kind of worrying is the fact that they’ve got signs with their phone numbers on them with hearts around them. That’s a bit trying.

The Truck Driver looks back at you. “Uh, any place you want to go?”

Oh god they followed you

All the way to the Tankery HQ, those cheering students followed you to the Tankery HQ. Mind you, it wasn’t that far but still, they were persistent. As soon as you dismounted, they crowded around you, asking for dates, kisses, hugs, etcetera. You politely refuse all of them, but you do stick around to sign autographs, take pictures and such, etcetera.

It looks like you’ve finally done what you strove to be Freshmen year. Popular.

> REPUTATION UNLOCKED: POPULAR

Lisa disperses the rest of the students. “Right, right, get out of here. This is a Tankery-only affair. Go on, get.” All your crews dismount from their trucks, chattering excitedly.

The only thing this warehouse is really missing are your tanks. It’s empty save for the chassis of that Ultra-Sherman and the M18 Hellcat (S)

You yawn a bit. “So, shall we have dinner then?” you say.

You take off your jacket and roll up your sleeves to get on cooking. Nancy directs you on making a nice lobster dinner.

“Where’d you get Lobsters?” you ask.

Nancy says, “You can get a lot of things on Shore Leave, President.” She directs you on how to humanely put the lobsters down, then boil them in water. After wards, you work on separating the shit from the sack-

Yoooo wait a second. “Hold on,” you ask. “What is it that?”

Nancy pulls a bit more poop from the sack. “Feces. It’s where the lobster keeps it.”

… hold on. “Wait. My dad makes lobsters for dinner sometimes, he never takes that-“ You gag. “Oh god, I’ve eaten-“

Nancy giggles. “It’s not-“

“Ugh…” You hold your stomach. “Dad… why!?”

Your cellphone rings.

“Hello?”

“Ah, Pool-san. It’s nice to hear from you. Congratulations on your victory against our sister school.”

“Oh yeah. It was a hell of a thing, Darjeeling. But we pulled it out. Right now, we’re working our celebratory dinner, lobster with some nice salads and other stuff.”

“That’s very nice, Pool-san. We are glad to hear you celebrate your victory. “

“Hey, wasn’t it you that said… something about me not winning? Well look at me now!”

“Well, Robert Heinlein said, Always take sides! You will sometimes be wrong but the man who refuses to take sides must always be wrong.”

“Well, I suppose that makes sense, Darjeeling.”

“Also, I bought quite a number of those Girl Scout biscuits. They’re quite good.”

“Yeah they-… biscuits?”

“Yes. Biscuits.”

“… they’re cookies.”

You roll your eyes. “Aren’t you Japanese?”

“Anyway, Pool-san. It was very nice to talking with you. Again, congratulations on your victory. I look forward to hearing from you.”

The Tankery HQ has come complete with a nice messhall where you and Nancy begin distributing dishes of lobster to everyone. Every starts eating eagerly, happy to get some nourishment after their long day of battling.

You sit down next to Kitten and decide to call up Kay.

“Ah! Gertrude! Lovely to hear to be hearing from you!”

“Yeah, you too, Kay. What’s going on with you?”

“Not much, not much. Just sorting out some Tankery stuff here and there. Kind of boring around here. Admittedly, I did expect to get a bit further in the tournament, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers. You know?”

“Of course.”

“It’s Saunders, we have money coming out of our asses! Anyway, let me know if you want to reschedule later, don’t want to impose after all, ciao!”

“See you, Kay.”

You hang up and then dig into your lobster. Tastes great, not just because it’s Nancy, but because it’s your cooking. That and because it doesn’t have lobster shit in it.

Kitten says, “Well, you know. Gertrude needed me, so I answered. Yeah?”

“Of course, let me put Ace on actually.” There’s a brief pause.

Ramirez brings in a TV on your request. You tune into the ESPN where a bunch of analysts are speaking about Tankery.

“… so with today’s surprise victory from Lafayette Girls Academy, the round of 64 is coming to a close.” Yes, a mention in dispatches. How about that. “We now have a good 32 teams, all of them pretty solid.”

The other analysts nods. “That’s right. Like you said, we have LGA. We got Heinlein and Walter Christie. In fact, a lot of the American schools didn’t make it, but there’s a lot less Japanese schools then I realized. We have Chi-Ha-Tan of course, we have Black Forest Peak, Ooarai Girls Academy as well, Pravda, Saint Gloriana, Anzio, etcetera. We also have European teams like Konigsberg Academy, Charlemagne, Koshkin, Kursk Girls Boarding school. Those are the teams which are actually currently looking to win their next matches.”

“Indeed, Kursk Girls is actually looking to be the favorite to make it to the finals now instead of William Adams, and I don’t blame them. What Kursk does is a solid, textbook, doctrine that is flexible.”

“Speaking of flexibility, how would you rate the WA vs. LGA match today?”

“Completely unbelievable. By all rights LGA should have been knocked out many times, but WA made a lot of mistakes in that match which LGA seemed to have capitalized on whether they know it or not. For example, trying to force a fight in an urban environment in which neither side had the advantage. Secondly, allowing them to cross the bridge. It was a total hoohah!”

Lisa scoffs. “Bah, sports analysts. What do they know?”

Neither are particularly good for fighting late-war tanks, though at close range both have a chance to kill or disable most vehicles. The Stuart is primarily a scout, in any case, so spending money for an at-best marginal improvement in firepower is a waste of resources.

“… now the thing that saved LGA was Cardiff not turning to cross the bridge and engage the flag tank. Mind you, an S35 would definitely run rings around a Challenger, speed not withstanding, but this is a well-respected Challenger ace. Instead, she remains in the town, where eventually she gets bogged down by the LGA girls.”

The other analyst says, “I can understand where you’re coming from. I think a lot of this stems from overconfidence on WA’s part. It’s understandable of course considering LGA’s a pretty newbie team, but when you look at their match with Heinlein. Goodness, their match with Heinlein was very close considering what they had at the time.”

“I agree, I agree with that. Hubris tends to defeat no one but yourself. If WA had approached this more cautiously instead of just going in and brawling in the streets of Saint Sauveur, things would definitely be a lot more different. If they had perhaps drawn LGA out into the open or at least attempted a serious bridge crossing, they might’ve had it.”

Yeah, and fuck up how? Because in the end it's really not going to matter.

Sure, I'd prefer that they'd accept it voluntarily, but people aren't always going to take initiative and go to ask for a new tank, especially if they fear that it's already planned for another team. For fuck's sake, at least ASK them to switch over.
>>
>>29937352
The Stuart and the Hellcat serve two completely different roles. The Stuart is a scout tank while the Hellcat is a mobile reserve anti-tank gun. Of the two, we need a good scout a lot more than extra firepower, and the Poles are happy to serve in the Stuart. Their aggressive style is better suited to scouting than to waiting for the need to react against the enemy's moves, too.
>>
>>29937300
>>29937416
This
>>
>>29937430

The Hellcat is an exceptional flanker as well, I dare say their style is a lot more effective for flanking attacks than just scouting. And considering its ridiculous speed, I'd be surprised if it didn't do well as a scout as well.

The Hellcat is much larger than the Stuart, and sending out a heavy anti-tank asset to deliberately get shot at to reveal the enemy's location would be incredibly stupid. As for "flanking" the Hellcat is ultimately a mobile anti-tank gun; you rush it to a position the enemy has to approach. It does not have the armor to attack prepared enemy positions, which is the role the Sherman and other medium tanks are suited for.

I mean it's not like there was this giant series of combats where people worked out how to use the various tanks in senshado...

No it fucking isn't, it's only a meter longer. Any disadvantages that causes is ultimately rectified by its superior speed.

We have ten crew spot, might as well put a tank that can pull off multiple roles there.

As for "flanking" the Hellcat is ultimately a mobile anti-tank gun; you rush it to a position the enemy has to approach. It does not have the armor to attack prepared enemy positions, which is the role the Sherman and other medium tanks are suited for.
Which is ultimately a lot more than the Stuart can do, especially since the Hellcat can get to positions to observe the enemy before the Stuart.

Ramirez sits at her desk, spinning around. “Not really.”

Nancy sits on the bed next to you, still in her uniform. “Oh? You must have some nice stories.”

“Well, I don’t consider myself a great storyteller.”

That’s getting a bit annoying. You let Kitten take off your blouse then unzip your miniskirt, which you kick off onto the ground. “Ah, Ramirez,” you say. “Don’t be such a stick in the mud. How about you tell us a story from when you and Lisa were roommates?”

The profile of the Hellcat is significantly larger than that of the Stuart in every dimension, and the long 76mm gun sticks out a lot more than the Stuart's little 37mm. The Hellcat was not used as a scout, is not suitable as a scout, and we need a scout.

If you want to get the Hellcat into service so badly, then try to recruit a new crew. It would be useful, but not trying to fill a role it was never intended for and which puts it at a significantly higher risk of being knocked out before doing anything useful.

Which means when it runs into an enemy tank at close quarters, something scouts tend to do, it gets killed because the other tank gets off a shot before it can.

>and the long 76mm gun sticks out a lot more than the Stuart's little 37mm
This is about the only thing I agree with you about.

>The Hellcat was not used as a scout, is not suitable as a scout, and we need a scout.
And do you have any citations that it's useless as a scout beyond your say-so?

>If you want to get the Hellcat into service so badly, then try to recruit a new crew.
Or we could give it to an experience and blooded crew.

Also, this site disagrees with your assertion that it wasn't used for flanking maneuvering

http://www.militaryfactory.com/armor/detail.asp?armor_id=250

Which makes goddamn sense considering its peed and the fact that the 76mm could not penetrate heavy german armor from the front.
>>
>>29937964
I'm not even sure why this debate needs to be had. Giving the Hellcat to the Rifles and letting Theater Tech have the T-34 is the best option we have. We want a scout and we want the Hellcat, why not just cut out the Chi-Ha?
>>
>>29938056

You smile and say, “As the good song goes!” You and Kitten lean in. “Tell me more, tell me more!” you both sing.

Ramirez rolls her eyes. “Fine.” She looks over at Lisa. “You okay with this?”

Lisa asks her, “Is this what I think it is?”

“Yes.”

Lisa sighs, frowning. “Go ahead. They might as well know.”

Ramirez nods then begins her tale. “So it was last year, yeah? Me and Lisa are roommates in the Freshmen dorm. Now, you all know about Lisa’s habit of lying things dirty.”

Lisa says, “Hey, I told you, I might need some of that.”

“Anyway,” says Ramirez. She takes a quick sip of her glass of milk. “So basically, our dorm ends up trashier than a trailer park mother. I mean, I’m up to my ankles in papers, pencils, and other garbage. And because Lisa doesn’t want o throw it out, that means I have to do it.”

Nancy asks her, “So what did you do?”

Ramirez says, “Simple. If you can’t beat them, join them.”

You blink. “So… you started hoarding trash too?”

“What happened was that eventually the trash got so bad that we started seeing cockroaches in our beds, spiders in mattresses, bedbugs in the closet. It got so bad that even the showers weren’t working properly-“

You gasp. “How?”

Lisa says, “Don’t ask.”

Ramirez continues. “Anyway, so the showers aren’t working. Basically, come December. We both smell like absolute shit. So it was then that Lisa said-”

Lisa said, “We need to clean this shit up.”

Ramirez nods. “So we did. Took us the better part of two months to get the dorm fully clean. But, I think the both of us learned a pretty good lesson from that.”

Kitten asks, “What’s that?”

“That if you surround yourself with shit, you’re going to smell like shit.”

I dispute your statement
>>
It would've been an interesting dynamic if the Stuart was paired with the Panzer IV or the Panther, luring opponents to within their gun sights.

Personally, I'd rather have the Sewing Club take the Stuart, have the Poles in the Hellcat, and the Rifles back in their T-34. Or ask the Poles how they feel about Russian tanks first.

The SOMUA just isn't gonna cut it in terms of specialized roles, so it's fine to bench it along with the Chi-Ha.
But alas, that suggestion probably isn't gonna happen that way.
>>
So when will matches have a cap larger then 10 tanks? Do you guys think we'll ever reach a point that we can start seriously refining our lineup with a general strategy in mind rather then just using whatever good tanks fall in our laps and happen to be for sale?
>>
>>29938464
We put it on all the other tanks we have (except the Chi-Ha)

let's ask Mr.Misksha if it will decrease the performance
>>
>>29938499
It will, you're putting more weight on when you put more armor on
>>
>>29938499
Putting weight on a tank increases the burden on the engine, this is basic physics.

And the Hellcat's armor might as well not be there for all the good it is, 25mm at it's thickest is absolutely pathetic. It's better off relying on its speed.
>>
>>29938484

I don't think the Poles like Russain tanks either, They don't have good history with them.
>>29938498

Pretty sure that will be unliekly
>>
>>29938498
This is assuming we'll ever have enough good tank to pick and choose.

Actually, with the number of heavies on our team, it might be good to go for a hammer and anvil approach.
>>
>>29938516
>>29938518
Fair enough, then putting improved suspension and grouces are okay?
>>
>>29938545

Yes, there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't get those apart from extreme budget issues.
>>
>>29938545
Won't make it faster, may make the ride smoother and keep the GP relatively the same
>>
Should we invest in spaced armour for the Walter Christie match?
>>
>>29938580
For what?
>>
>>29938561
Their relatively inexpensive.

Also, I know a lot of people will disagree but how about upgunning the churchill to the 75mm, we maybe be able to turn it into a NAChurchill or a Churchill 7 (or was it 8) I don't remember?

Were they better then the Churchill we have now?
>>
>>29938580

They did get the Panzer III Ausf. N didn't they?

Maybe, it's currently out of our price range.
>>
>>29938580
Depends on the tank
>>
>>29938592
I know, that's why I said extreme budget issues, the only reason I expect we're not getting them is if we have no money at all.

Also, getting the Churchill the 75mm isn't an "upgunning". The 6 pounder has better penetration, heck, the 2 pounder squeezebore has better penetration than that.
>>
>>29938589
Panzer III Ausf. N, shoots HEAT shells.
>>
>>29938641
But in exchange we get better armor, and upgrading it will be a fraction for what we do for a conversion
>>
>>29938716
How significant.

And to clarify my position, I'm not opposed to getting the Mk. VII, just that it's not high on my list of priorities. Once we've got another 17 pounder for the Sentinel, then we could use our spare 6 pounder to upgun it.
>>
>>29938753
>How significant.

Sorry, "How significant is the upgrade? To what degree?"
>>
>>29938753
We have an extra 75mm, we can just use that couldn't we?
>>
>>29938772

We sold that.

Good riddance I say.
>>
>>29938787
We sold the 25 pounder and the 2 pounder, not the 75mm
>>
>>29938796

Really?

Then we should sell that quick, it's not going to be much use to us.
>>
>>29938822
Can't we use that for a quick Churchhill conversion
>>
>>29938840

We might as well use the 6 pounder, because then it means we won't have to pay for removing and installing a new gun.
>>
>>29938840
Won't cut it against teams like Kursk or Black Forest.
>>
Can't we just commission Perrine to modify Earl into Black Prince?
>>
>>29938865

To be fair, those two schools would be an absolute nightmare for any infantry tank bar the Black Prince.
>>
>>29938860
Isn't installing a new gun, won't cost anything.

Also it's more expensive for an entire conversion then a upguning
>>
>>29938909

He has to buy a new gun and make the effort into installing it.

It's cheaper this way.
>>
>>29938930
We have the 75mm though, so it won't be much.

if your talking about the another 6 pounder then we can wait until the Setienel.
>>
>>29938893
>Perrine
We wouldn't get a Black Prince back, we would get a Baneblade.
>>
>>29938961
We're better off selling the 75mm, and in any case, the current Churchill already has a 6 pounder.

Then again, I'd prefer we upgrade other tanks first.
>>
>>29938992
>We're better off selling the 75mm
Vetoing it right now.
>>
>>29939010

Why? It's basically serving no current purpose beyond just sitting there and being something we're not going to use.

Also, I really am sure we sold it.
>>
>>29939031
I'm pretty sure we didn't, but I'm going to bring up what we actually own to Schteel next thread.
>>
>>29939031
>>29939052
Check the last threads if you want to know
>>
>>29939031
>Also, I really am sure we sold it.
And contrary to that, anons will keep telling you that we haven't.
Check back to the archives and the result will be the same.
https://archive.foolz.us/tg/thread/29777154/#29780428
It was only the 2pdr and the 25pdr that got sold.

Stop insisting your version is the correct one. You're only sowing confusion to the readers and not contributing to an informed decision.
>>
>>29939115

Whoops, my bad, I really was sure we sold it, my apologies. I wasn't in the mood for an archive crawl.

In that case then, I'm still advocating we sell it.
>>
>>29939204
We should use it for a cheap conversion
>>
>>29939243

Or we could just let the 6 pounder stay there and it still remains a cheap conversion.
>>
>>29939269
How so, the Churchill 7 (or was it 8) was the better model.

How does making it stay a mark 6 a cheap conversion
>>
>>29939283
Perhaps you didn't hear it the first time, but the 6 pounder WAS THE BETTER GUN.

I mean holy shit, it's not hard to go to Google and find out that the QF 75mm was designed primarily against infantry.
>>
This argument is just going around in circles.

Bottom line: You want the armor of the Churchill VII, but still retain the 6 Pounder of the Churchill IV.

I think the best compromise is a Churchill IX, if Wikipedia could ever be trusted.
>Churchill III / IV upgraded with turret of the VII. Extra armour added along with gearbox and suspension modifications. If the old 6 pounder had been retained, it would have the additional designation of LT ("Light Turret").

I'll have to make a more in-depth research on that one though.
>>
>>29939349
I'll appreciate it, thanks man
>>
Had to go to the BNG pre-release. Did we win?
>>
>>29939754
Barely
>>
>>29939754
How did you do anon?
>>
>>29939785
Foil Brimaz was the best thing I pulled, and I sold him for $33 cash to get in tomorrow, but with the snow it's looking bad. 0-2 Drop, because three rounds with 20 people means one loss fucks me hard. Got the B and U Archetype, and that's really it.
>>
>>29939859
Sorry to hear, but I'm glad for you that you got to go at least. This set had pretty disappointing rares if it's any consolation knowing you didn't get fucked hard with your picks.
>>
>>29939924
Eh, not terribly. It could have gone better, but you win some, you lose some.
>>
>>29939754
We barely won, but we did it. We also planned a match with Saunders though we may push it to a much later date
>>
>>29939961
Wasted all our CP rallying, didn't we.

Welp. Only got this pic for point of comparison.

Above is the Mk. VII, below that the Mk. IX-LT (light turret).

So apparently, that Mk. IX-LT does retain the 6pdr, and has additional improvements to the suspension and transmission.
The additional armor is pretty much just applique though.

In-game, it's not available in the Shop yet, though with the parts we added, our Churchill seems to be closer to this than an ordinary Mk. IV.

The Mk. VII has the heavier armor, wider chassis, and the internal improvements said above, but uses the QF 75mm.

I can't find any accounts of Mk. VIIs using a 6pdr, sadly. But then, it's to be expected from an infantry support tank.
I dunno if we could appeal for the use of the 6pdr to the ITL, since the QF 75mm is pretty much a 6pdr gun re-bored for the 75mm shell.

If there anyone else has a better source, do feel free to correct me.

Seems like it'll go down to how the Freshmen would want their tank utilized.

Do they want to trade shots with their opponents?
Or do they want to soak fire for the rest of the team?

And I'm starting to understand the use of WoT stats, since all the info is at least available all together and much more simplified, as opposed to sifting through multiple sources. I still don't support doing that though.
>>
>>29939970
Actually not really around 30 cp and not all on rallying.

Though we did the honerable apprach again
>>
>>29940077
I think in Italy that they might have used 6 pounders alongside the QF 75mm, I guess it's a matter of conversion
