You are Christopher Phillips, previously just another teenage nerd living in a small English town, and a lot of things have changed in your life since you died.

You wake up. Slowly. Your head is throbbing, it feels far too early in the morning, and... and this is not your bedroom. You look around. Trees, bushes, a large, mossy green bed. A wall of vines, covered in foot-long thorns. Daylight through the leaves.

You slowly lever yourself upright. Your side hurts, but it’s a dull pain. There’s a large bandage around your torso, and another on your left arm. You remember... something...

Oh, hell.

Now you remember. The King, the fight... the betrayal. You have to get up. Have to fight. Again.

You roll out of bed, taking stock of your surroundings. A small clearing. A large bed, made of moss and plants, grown out of the ground.

Someone takes you by the hand, helps you to your feet. Jill, still in the red, fairy-silk dress she wore to the dance... was that only a day ago? No, two days. It’s morning now. She’s holding her phone in her other hand, which she puts down on the bed so she can support you with one arm and check your bandages with the other.

“Chris, are you okay? How are you feeling? Does your side hurt?”

“A little. I’ll be fine, don’t worry about that. What happened? Where are we? Where’s Avril gone? I need to...”

You try to turn towards the wall of vines, but wince as pain shoots up the side of your torso. Jill takes your arm and sits you back down on the side of the bed.

“Just... sit down a moment. We’re in the forest somewhere. I’m not sure where. It’s about 6 in the morning... I thought you should get a bit of sleep. Let... let me tell you what happened.”

“After Avril... knocked you out, she took over the court. Miranda and a bunch of others were all ready to support her. I, uh, I tried to help you, get you bandaged up. Avril... she threw me out. Threw both of us out. Said she wasn’t leaving Earth, but she was still sealing the court up behind a bunch of barriers until the threat was gone. And that I should come back once everything was safe... alone. She said for you not to come back. She said... that you know what you did. Chris... what’s going to happen now? I... I don’t understand anything, I don’t know what’s going on, I don’t know what to do. What are we going to do now?”

[]”Now, we go fight. Once I take care of the Excrucians, we can come back and deal with Avril. Permanently.”
[]”Now, we bust back through that barrier. I’m not going to be treated like this. Avril needs to learn who’s in charge around here.”
[]”Now... I should get a bit of rest, I guess. I can feel my magic is as strong as ever, but I should do something about all these wounds. And I need to gather my allies and my resources before we can strike back at anyone.”

What, she even let us go practically unharmed! How was this anything more than evening the score? Live and let live, obviously if (or rather when, judging by predictable tropes) she herself or her actions become a problem we have to deal with them, but why the fuck would we go out of our way for some petty and entirely undeserved 'revenge'?

I don't think she'd say "I know what you did" if referring to the rape. I mean, Jesus Christ, of COURSE she knows about the rape. It happened TO HER. More than likely this refers to something else, probably something we view as insignificant. Maybe she's not happy we helped the... snake people. Maybe she's pissed about what we did with... uh... that dude, in the shower. Lenny? Maybe she's pissed we resented her because she's a shady bitch.
>>
>>29905392
Rape is sort of one of those things you tend not to forget.
>>
>>29905554
She said "you know what you did," not "I know what you did." It's a way of getting the message across without mentioning the rape to Jill, who AFAIK, isn't aware of it.

The Excrucians.

Remember them?

Yeesh, get off your revenge kick and get your head in the game, anon.
>>
>>29905774
Excrucians. Also, calling our boss upstairs and seeing about what help he might provide.
THEN we kill Avril. Even though she's completely justified, it seems the in character thing for him to do. What with her whole 'stealing control from a being that is en route to becoming an embodiment of control'.
>>
>>29905805

Sorry it's been awhile since I participated in this quest, stopped about when we made Isabella our undead servant, getting caught up in the archives now.
>>
>>29905849
That actually brings up a point, shouldn't we get XP or something for becoming king of things? Or just get fed to hell and back?
Seems like something we'd pursue.
>>
>>29905918
I don't think the QM notes XP gains. Just marks them off quietly.

Monsterhearts' systems reward you more for teen drama than fights, anyways.
>>
I really hope we don't end Avril, mainly because I don't want to see the relationship to end like that after 53 fucking threads, but also, we're gonna need the fae's help dealing with the Excrucians, and using Avril as a puppet queen would greatly help

Even though OPs already writing, I think we still need to work towards
>[]”Now, we bust back through that barrier. I’m not going to be treated like this. Avril needs to learn who’s in charge around here.”
>>
How about, instead of killing Avril, we do to her what we did to Isabella?
>>
>>29906275
Good idea, might need to wait a while to do it though, in case we and our patron are drained after eliminating the Exrucian threat.
>>
>>29906275
I'll second this, means we can at least start towards salvaging things and we gain an ally (willing or not).

We just need to get in touch with The Man.

but of fucking course, most likely we're going to get 'call busy'
>>
>>29906324
Well yeah, universe-destroying assholes knocking at the door. More important shit to deal with than our romantic woes.
>>
We need to at least ask back for the piece of Chris' soul that her father has. That should re-empower Chris.
>>
>>29906366
We might have that back at this point. We *were* the King of the Fae, for however short of a time period.
>>
>>29906359
You do know we could use the fae against the Excrucian's if we control Avril, and deal with that more important shit first and romantic woes after everyone is dead or not.

We kind of need allies to help right now, because we're in no shape to take them on by ourselves, and guess who could help us out once we get control of their queen? Oh thats right, the fae.
>>
>>29906461
Honestly, I get the distinct feeling this will be more a duel between the Man in White and the Excrucian than between our allies and them.
>>
>>29906479
I got the impression from our chats with him he ain't looking forward to dealing with them, let alone capable of such a thing, but if we had a bunch of allies to help at least distract them, he might be able to work his magic.

Either way, I want my fucking kingdom back with our cute green haired sub by our side ruling in our stead, after we get those silly notions of betrayal out of her pretty mind.

"Well, your father and I have been worried sick over you. Even your little sister has been wondering what happened to you. We've managed to get all our packing done, but I do hope you'll be back here in time to see us off? Not going to happen. She could have easily played the power behind the throne and kept on manipulating us. She's either attached to the accoutrements of power or to fucking us over, and in either case that pretty much rules such a thing out.
>>
>>29906704
We don't know that yet, and seriously if we don't get her under our control, we're out a massive fucking investment from the fae, dealing with their bullshit and then they up and abandon us right when we need their help to save the fucking universe, that they so happen to live in as well.

And if we can't, then whats the fucking point, cause we can't control the fae on our own, what with the retarded ass way they think and act, we need a puppet to control them for us who knows what shes doing, and if we can't get the fae on our side, then I'm not seeing any other end that we die horribly at the Excrucians hands and game over.

"Christopher Phillips, what on earth can you be doing that's -"

"Sorry, Mum." Click.

Well. That's something you'll have to deal with later. First you need to get your pieces together. Isabella. Esther and her new resources. See if you can work out what's happened to Ajani and Gloria. You stand up -

Ow. Right. The giant, bloody hole in your side. You could do with some sort of medical attention. And a new shirt. Maybe it's a good thing you didn't rush home straight away. That might have been interesting to explain.

Anyway. You don't need to walk anywhere to get hold of Isabella, do you?

'Isabella. Status report.'

'Uh... Chris? Dammit, it's six in the morning...'

You can feel her tiredness through the link, almost like it were your own. And come to think of it, you're still quite tired yourself. But there'll be time for sleep later.

'I know. I had a bit of trouble over here, I'll brief you on that later. Status report?'

'Uh... well, it's Sunday. So a lot of people are staying at home. I've had people lean on their parents, persuade any businesses that are open on Sunday to give their workers a day off. The south side of town and the town centre should be as cleared out as we can get them. I'm arranging group holidays as much as I can, but if we want to evacuate the entire town, we're going to need some sort of excuse, and preferably not the supernatural monsters kind. We might not have the juice right now, and she may have taken over our bond to her father, which would probably give her resistance or possibly even immunity to our powers.

This really seems like a situation where our position can only improve by not rushing into action. She's bottled up in a little hidey hole, we've got the ability to gather allies and power.

If she stays in there until after the Excrucians are defeated, she'll look like shit to any surviving power structures, who will probably be our allies of necessity. I think the Man is pretty much the only thing that plays on the same game board as Excrucians in this town.

'A tornado or an earthquake, in Britain? I mean, it's not impossible, but it'll be a hard sell.'

'How about a gas leak? Don't tell me you don't have people who can lean on the town council and the police and so on. It'd have to be a really big gas leak, but it's still feasible.'

'Mm, might work. A big gas leak, or... a chemical leak from one of the factories, maybe. Towns have been evacuated over chemical leaks before. Someone will take a bit of a hit to the profit margin, but without any actual cleanup costs to pay it shouldn't be too drastic. I'll set the ball rolling. Might take a couple of hours to actually get everyone on board and a couple more hours at least to actually get people out. Probably more, even with my ability to coordinate things better than any pack of idiots with radios.'

'That will have to do. I think we've got Esther and her family on our side, once they get certain things ironed out again. The Fae are definitely not on our side. That's something we'll have to look at later, I think. Have you had any communications from the lady in white you mentioned before?'

'Not in the last day or so. Should I be expecting some?'

'I don't know. If you hear anything from her, let me know immediately.'

'Sure thing, boss. Anything else?'

'Not right at the moment, I think. I'll call you again if I need anything else.'

You look down at your hands, flexing them. Your arm is already starting to heal. A bit more time and your torso might be healed up too. But time is the one thing you never seem to have enough of.

On the plus side... you hum briefly. Okay, yeah. You feel full of magic. You think you'll be good to walk around very soon, albeit painfully. You've got Isabella, and Esther, and Jill, and soon a nice empty town to work with.

>Masami. Still going to turn into a Deep One.
>Louie. Still doesn't have his pelt back.
also fucking small time

we can deal with that when we face the Excrucians

honestly, I doubt Cassandra is still in town with her food source evacuating and her being the cowardly parasite she is

also we've see so little of what louie and masami can offer that i'd entirely forgotten about their existence, and i doubt louie can do anything to help, and masami's family would probably make things worse and side with the Excrucians
>>

>masami's family would probably make things worse and side with the Excrucians
Deep Ones are still part of Creation, man, and Excrucians want to destroy it.

They're also an advanced, ancient alien race or whatever the fuck.

That's pretty serious.

You need to pause for a moment. To think, to heal, to meditate. You lie back on the bed, telling Jill to keep watch, and focus your will. You are in control. You control everything around you, including yourself. All you need to do is will it, and -

A blur. A change. A small jewel, held delicately in a woman's hand. A small gold framework surrounds it. Black tendrils writhe inside. Your own fingers reaching out, picking up the gem, crushing it easily in your hand. Power flowing out of it, absorbed into you. Back into you.

A change. The two Deceivers, sitting on chairs of solid ice, chatting idly. Dancing lights around their head - symbols. You focus. Snowflakes around the woman's head, and shifting, chaotic colours and many-pointed stars around the man's.

A change. A battlefield, changing and shifting, full of fire and blood. Esther's snake-like soldiers charging forward, being shot down with flaming bullets, and rising up to strike at their comrades, still burning. An enormous Fae, like a giant golem made of rocks and boulders, being encased in ice.

A change. The town from the air, streets and buildings and rolling hills laid out beneath you. A ring of white-hot flames begins to spread out from the south side of town, rushing over all in its path, leaving everything in its wake encased in frost.

A change. You're back in the bed, shaking your head. You pull yourself up to a sitting position. It... doesn't seem to hurt that much any more. You look around. Jill is stretched out on the bed next to you, fast asleep. You check your phone. About two hours have passed since you woke up before. Your arm feels fine, and while your torso still aches, there's no more blood showing through the bandages. A change of clothes, and you'll be ready to go.

What do you want to do now?

Getting the visions clear enough to be a good set of clues about what you might want to do next or what you might need to know, while still making them seem like visions to interpret and not just the word of QM, is surprisingly tricky. Do we know how the remainder of the Ajani/Esther group is doing?

Marshaling all our forces for an attack on the fae while they're all bunkered up seems like a pretty shitty idea in any case. Liable to lose us more than it gains, even if we manage to absorb the surviving fae. Defenders tend to inflict more casualties than attackers, unless the attackers have some kind of really high-quality weapon.

Hrm...

With our current juice, can we do the command thing? That might be enough. Command voice probably wouldn't let us actually take over the fae, but we might be able take our soul fragment back. Possibly build up some tiny amount of good will by showing no hard feelings? Going to check the deal we gave up our soul in, make sure we wouldn't suffer the backlash of reneging a deal.

Otherwise, the visions show a probable attack vector starting from the south side, which helps narrow down the immediate threatened areas. We don't actually have much of an idea what sort of attacks the Deceivers are capable of, do we?

I think the best option might be to find a good defensive position in the north and wait for word from the Man in the White Suit. So I'll vote

well that sounds like the bit of our soul we bargained to the fae king

we need to come up with a plan to get to Avril, get that bitch on a leash and get utterly destroy our allies/friends and the fae so we can actually put up a fight when we get control of them through Avril as a puppet for us

before we go after Avril we should REALY let Jill know about the rape otherwise when we confront her she will just "But Jill, he raped me" and then we get fucked over and jill leaves us no fixing it because you cant explain yourself in that situation so we need to do it now. let her know we were hatin g ourselves to pieces and we just lost controle of what brought us back to life, and avril foragve us for a piece of our soul as proof that we realy care about her. this is realy important

pretty much, and I don't care for deposing her, she can keep the throne, as long as we get control over her

>No one is suggesting either of those extremes.
there was a little bit of talk earlier about it, one anon wanted to ignore the fae and do our own thing, and one or two had a rather large murderboner for her

Honestly, I think we should confront her, somewhere private, tell her she gets to keep the throne, we don't want it, but she betrayed us, and she pays for that, and we want the help of the fae, which we can get when she is controlled by us, she can run the fae however she wants, as long as she is under our control and she and the fae help when we want

we are the bad guy here, IC we have no excuse, since you cant justify rapeing your gf in the woods who was just kidnaped, you cant just say you just lost control while sating your endless hunger for control. the feeling of shame wont wash out Chris, no mater how hard you scrub, the guilt wont wash out. ITS ALL YOUR FAULT CHRIS, YOU DID THIS TO YOURSELF.
>>

and we paid for it, arguably several times with the last of which getting her the throne
>>

and?

not making me want to put her on a leash any less, thats the kind of controlling character Chris is, the kind of control he hungers for

and its been a while since we sated our hunger
>>
>>29912527
chriss is a human being with feelings. feelings such as shame, guilt, remores and regret. he is not some heartless monster who would just intentionaly do that to hiss girl, light a cighr and leave her there on the ground weeping without a care in the world. i dont know what chris youre thinking of but its the wrong one. chris and avril were in a healthy loose and open relationship that had trust, we fucked like animals but it was mutual and with consent. we respected her as a person, someone who willingly gave themselves to us and we abused them. we gave up a piece of ourselves for her because we care about her. she wasnt just something to sate our hungers and neither is jill. thats not the kind of person chris is
>>
>>29912811
I'm not saying he isn't, but there is that side of his condition, and yea, we did give up a chunk of soul and do a bunch of other stuff to make it better (can't take it back), and then its revealed everything we did was for nothing because she was a scheming bitch the entire time.

Such an event brings the emotions and hungers of our darkest self out, and its time for him to feast.
>>
>>29912923
>Such an event brings the emotions and hungers of our darkest self out, and its time for him to feast.

no never again, certainly not around avril again, NEVER AROUND ANYONE AGAIN, chris isnt hungers the character you know, and we were king of spring even if only for a moment, i wouldnt think it to unlikely we are prety good on hungers if our magic was replenished. lets avoid using our darkest self as a means to an end, after all it was literaly the darkest we have ever been and the story ever got (IN MY OPINION) and things kind of got realy bad as a result. so no darkest self as revenge for betrail for darkest self rape, please.
>>
>>29913175
never said we'd rape her again, only that we'd sate our hunger for control but doing the thing we did to Isabella

and if we don't use darkest self, then we are not going to exist for much longer in any form against the excrucians
>>
>>29913289
>if we don't use darkest self, then we are not going to exist for much longer in any form against the excrucians
But Darkest Self is chump change compared to the power of the Man and the Excrucians.
It's not even worth considering because the power difference is too great.
