"Your father's no fool."

A wide glance from Micheal.
"A duel for kinghood?" he asks. "We aren't at war." he sighs, looking out the window. You sense more depth to this ennui than merely what he's said - but pushing it much further would be poor form. You close your eyes as you pack up the carriage and move on.

You were never aware of how uptight he was until now. In light of that, your teasing seems inconsiderate, but... Well, you didn't know. You'll just keep it in mind for later.

... ... ...

A full silent day passes as you ride, deeper and deeper into the wilderness. As the sun rises again, you and Micheal step out of the carriage, looking into a mess of plants and trees and stone that looks as if someone had made them as clay and gone at them with a whisk.

"This is the Wilds..." he says, looking it over.

"Ho, travelers!" calls a voice from above. A slender man sits upon a stone on high, smirking down. "Seek you entrance to the Wilds?"

>Yes.

Eh. Makes for a nice, relaxed time.

"And who are you?"

"Call me Garl." he says, leaping down with almost creepy grace. He is slender, smooth, his skin an interesting gery with shining silver tattoos.

"We wish to enter the Wilds, yes."

"Then I can be your guide, for a price. Not money, mind."

"Oh?"

"A night, with either of you."

Micheal flushes heavily, stammering.

"What."

"You heard me fine. The Wilds are dangerous - I can guarantee you and your friend safety if one of you has a night with me."

>Wait, why did you point out the Prince?

"Clown Priest." you say quietly.

"That's correct. This is the holy land of the Clown, which makes me the most qualified to lead you through it." he says, walking up to you. To be honest, he's not that bad looking. You feel a little dizzy as he slips closer. "And you never know of what a man like me is capable~" he says, leaning closer, looking into your eyes.

Make a marking on a nearby tree or something like that, have it indicate where we're going and what direction we came from. We'll repeat this every once in a while when we're in the Wilds, it should make it easier to retrace our steps and keep our bearings.

I'm not all that worried about anyone following us in, and the Canids will track us through other means anyways.

Clown has an odd way of things - since his fall, he has been less hateful and more mischievous. And so it is you find a small, flat area, not too big, not too small.

You're somewhat tired by this point, and you're not even sure where you are, exactly.

As good as we're going to get, I think. This doesn't feel quite as suspicious as the last place, and I don't trust in our ability to find anywhere better. If there are trees around us loop a length of rope around all of them and make a circle around our area.

Set up one tent, don't bother with more, we aren't letting Micheal out of our presence for a single moment in the Wilds. And get some food cooking, if we have some time while it's cooking run Micheal through forms.

Anan always made his temples to last. A direct opposite to Coyo, who made his quickly, and generally had them burned down on holy days. A testament to his desire to live in the now.

Anan, on the other hand, wanted to build things that lasted. Wanted to create and preserve. Like Law, but not as strict, Anan pioneered ideals of working conditions, pay, and labour law. His temples were often praised for their construction.

Even to this day, it stands, a marble of perfection in the swirling waters of chaos. You wander over towards Micheal, kneeling beside him.

You head up the stairs with Micheal, who still seems to be in a funk. You don't blame him - you can only imagine what that was like. It must be horrible to have your control wrested from you.

When you get there, you see a chest, the kind you would keep valuables in, and atop it sits a strange figure. Its tail curls when it sees you, but it doesn't move.

=Friend to those worth calling so.=

"I'm Mistral Magebreaker."

=Met well, met fine, miss Magebreaker.= Oddly he cricks his neck at that one, seemingly annoyed.

"I hope I'm not disturbing you?"

=Understandable, knowable, to be tired of Clown's snicker.= he states. =A bet, a bet, is on a... game.= he says. =Three games have I, each one of interest. The stakes matter little - I have three items in this chest. One for each game, one for each prize. I shall name the stakes we use.=

He nods, to himself. =Yes, yes. These three items have I, a robe, a glass, and a lens. The least among them is the glass, and for that I bet a riddle, lass. The second, the lens, a game of chance, the last the robe, A look into your past.=

He leans a little closer.
=And if you win them, true and told, a single thing I shall unfold! A riddle, question, problem or rhyme, I will solve it, time and time.=

He leans back. =Name your prize and we shall play, after I decide the pay.=

"Easiest to bind, too, because they want to be bound, as it allows them to interact with mortals. However, if kept from the hells long enough... They yearn for it. He's probably on the straight. Let's start with a riddle. What's your price?"

"Annelin."

--- --- ---

You are Annelin. You're a little upset that Micheal dared to bet your clothes, but what can be done? You step forward, swallowing heavily, placing your fingers against the invisible field there.

Douglas does the same.

And you REMEMBER.

You feel his weight, his sadness. A sadness of ten years. He had guarded her for years. Together they had stood against all sorts of things. He was intellectual, he was strong and handsome. He was confident, and with her at his side, happy. He had put his life before hers in many ways, for many years. The two were known across the land as gentle lovers.

And then he showed up.

A noble by the name of Hile.

A monster of a man, great and powerful, distantly related. He entered the court. He monopolized her time. Held her close, held her near. Kissed lips which once were sworn to Douglas'. There was nothing he could do as the young princess fell before his charms, charms you knew not to be entirely natural.

And still he was her guard.

He married her, stole her heart.

And still he was her guard.

Douglas watched vigil upon their consummation. Heard her cries, and her appreciation.

And still he was her guard.

In a night of desperation, in a scream of fury, he aimed to kill the old king, but was struck down. Humiliated, demasculated in every way, he was poisoned, and forced to watch one last time as his life leaked upon the floor, his mind-controlled wife gasping out insults and appreciation.

And then... The vision ends.

Douglas reaches up and unzips his collar.

=Well. Bound here as I was, I was unable to make good on my promise to Old Hile.= he says, teeth like a row of spikes. =But now, I think, my luck has come around.Take your robe, you have earned it well!=

The robe flies into your face, and when you pull it away, he's smirking wide.

=Ask your question.=

>invincible panties
the catch is that you can't remove them

>>29914742
well, what can these magic items do anyway (show him the sword and the items we won)
>>
>>29914742
"Is that demon going to be a problem?"

>>29914742
"Do I even want to know why Clown has eyes on me?"

> One question

Ask about who is sending demons to kill us and Michel.

Seriously

Ask about who is sending demons to kill us and Michel.
>>
>>29914855
We don't really have anything worth asking at this juncture. So if he gives us a silly boon (the Invincible Bra!) then we might as well ask a silly question.
>>
>>29914888
I actually accept this as a valid point.

I do think we need a sillier question.

Actually I'd like to know what happened to that Clown Priest. He's not waiting right outside the temple readying himself to light us on fire in our sleep or something, is he?
>>
>>29914888
Have demon assassins sent by a unknown foe coming after us.

>We don't really have anything worth asking

I hate you so much.
>>
Need some consensus.

>>29915200
Ask who is sending the demon assassins.

might as well ask about the assassins and their boss

Rolled 5, 3, 1 = 9

Who makes the best armor within 100 miles of Central?

Demon assassin boss if you please.

"Alright. Demons have been targeting me and the Prince. Who's summoning and sending them?"

"One question, two answers!" he says. "Since you asked who's summoning first..." he grins. "Wordworm." he says. "Up to you to find him, up to you to fight him." he says, laughing as he crawls up some silk. "Good luck."

And he's gone.

When the prince gets back:

>"Good news! Anan gifted me an indestructible bra. No, I'm not kidding. Yes, I'm just as confused as you are."
>>
>>29915319
Not sure I like him very much.

For a slightly more 'straight man' god than Clown or Raev, he sure seemed... a little chaotic. Are they all like that except old man law?
>>
>>29915382
he seemed more good natured and enjoying a laugh rather than being a chaotic dickbag for the sake of being a chaotis dickbag

I like him a hell of a lot more than Clown and Law from what we've seen of him.

Raev is best god through and through
>>
>>29915382
At least Anan just gave us some mostly unhelpful stuff. Didn't actually do anything bad, just some silly stuff that doesn't do much for us.
>>
>>29915427
Clown is decent, but has a twisted sense of humor.
>>
>>29915465
Invincible bra isn't bad, it's right over some important parts of the chest, behind the breasts are the lungs, and it might help against a heart hit as well.

It covers some important parts.
>>

Sigh. I suppose. I'm sort of dreading encountering Coyote - because let's be realistic here, we probably will sooner or later.

You said it, captcha.

>Coyote
Who?
