Getting used to tiny keyboard. Bare with me.

Last time: You, Moiyama Takato, and your friends were selected to leave Earth and begin training as mages under the eys of the TSAB.

This time:
You barely are in time to cover your ears as Kyou lets out a full lunged "UCHUU KIIIIITAAAAAAAAA!" as he looks outside the window. You can't blame him too much, the view is quite astounding. Smiling, you start setting up a bunk, wondering when the other members of the group are going to show up.

>Do you...
>Get a lower bunk

>Choose someone to talk to. Kyou, Chrono, and Toshiiro available

Top bunk, obviously, because we're the fucking boss.

>Get an upper bunk

Chat with Toshiiro. He seems like an interesting guy, and he's not overly loud. Also, gawk at the stars outside.

Top bunk

Top bunk. The ceiling is better for staring at than the mattress of the guy above you, and they're actually easier to make in the morning. Talk to Toshiiro.

Tossing some of your stuff on a top bunk, the bottom of which is quickly taken by Kyou. Shaking your head with a small smirk. Kyou will be Kyou no matter what he comes up against or sees.

Letting him set up himself, you wander over to Toshiiro as some of the other newcomers start filtering in slowly. He nods to you with a smile as he gazes out at space. Joining him, you look on.

"Makes you realize how small our civilizations really are doesn't it?" he asks, clearly feeling philisophical.

"The arching sky is calling
Spacemen back to their trade.
ALL HANDS! STAND BY! FREE FALLING!
And the lights below us fade.

Out ride the sons of Terra,
Far drives the thundering jet,
Up leaps a race of Earthmen,
Out, far, and onward yet ---

I always loved that poem."

Yes I am inserting my favorite poem as a write-in, if you guys are cool with it.

Yeah, civilization is small compared to the majesty of space, and stars output orders of magnitude more energy than we use.

But we know something now. We now know the void is not empty, that there are friends waiting for us in the heavens, and that one day our civilization will join them. And while the blackness of space makes us feel small, it no longer makes us feel alone."

Toshiiro smiles, chuckling softly, though it is still pretty heavy given his deep voice. "Yeah yeah. I guess I am usually the insightful one, yeah? It is good to know I am not the only one thinking about it though. I know Kyou is still too....young mentally to grasp it, but I know your running waters usually run very deep." he tells you with a smile.

"I could say the same about your still waters, Toshiiro. You know I rely on your insight, and that will be true in the days to come, if we end up in the same group."

He nods, smiing and turning back to the stars.

Walking up to the Enforcer Leader, you see him nod as he keeps watch over the group, smirking at the general shenanigans the new boys are getting into, especially with the over enthusiastic Kyou trying to make friends with everyone he can.

Smiling at you, he nods as you come up to him. "Anything I can help you with?" he asks. You nod, coming to stand next to him.

"So, tell me a little about the world we are headed to. About the technology and magic. Pays to be prepared yeah?," you ask him. "Plus, I'm more than interested in the unique things we're going to be finding out about."

Nodding softly, he smiles some more. "Admirable try recruit, but I am not allowed to tell you anything right now. My mother wants to hold a briefing for everyone before the evaluations."

You shrug a bit, understanding that there is likely a lot of information to be shared and the higher up probably only wanted to do one take of it all.

You look at him, seeing his eyes sparkle. He continues. "Enforcer Investigator Fate Testarossa-Harlowan, my adopted sister; Lieutenant Yagami Hayate; And Captain and Head trainer Takamatchi Nanoha, aka The White Devil."

He chuckles as he sees you shiver, knowing that you don't even understand why that scares you yet. "Go see to your other friend, before he jumps off something."

Shaking your head a bit, you wander over to Kyou, who is standing on a table giving a speech. The good news is that he has the crowd pumped up in the best way possible, as you catch part of his spiel.

"Yes indeed, my fellows, we shall show these alien mages why our youth is our greatest trait, and take on their evaluations without blinking! We will show them how just because our planet doesn't have fancy magitech like they do, we will be just as good if not better then they expect us to be! >>
>>29900778
>implying the YF-23 wasn't the consistently superior TSF
America only went with the Raptor because it performed better against OTHER TSFs. The YF-23 consistently outperformed it in simulated combat against the BETA. But the US was more interested in keeping their combat doctrine unchanged than in having a TSF that can rape BETA face.
I was actually thinking the real YF-23, though. Stealthy, fast, even better at First Look, First Shot, First Kill than the Raptor. Passed over due to being prohibitively expensive and a maintenance hog. Yes, I'm a fan of both versions of the YF-23. I TOUCHED Gray Ghost once.

>>29900468
Wait a minute. You know he cannot speak any other languages, so why does it look like the foreigners can understand him? It takes a minute but it finally clicks as you hear a Russian accent in perfect Japanese. "That's right! Let us put aside our national differences to show these mages a united front, like many of our forefathers would have wanted!"

Clearly there must be some magic shenanigans afoot, given how everyone else responds as they understood him. Slipping to the side, you poke Kyou on the shoulder. He smiles and bends down to hear you over the crowd.

> What do you ask him?

But anon, the YF-23 is too expensive even with compared with the Raptor, and Muv Luv America is the type to prefer to fight from range with Dakka. Also remember some of the TSIAs which show that the Raptor is not that bad in close combat.

Serious version? Of a Muv Luv?

Anyhow, what should we ask, maybe we can ask Kyou to present us to someone else, might not be a bad idea.

>>29901232
Then I guess you love the Shiranui Second Phase 3, the biggest and most strangest contraption to have come from the development lines in Muv Luv.
>>
>>29901283
Oh it's sexy alright.
The YF-23 gets love thanks to being the TSF version of my favorite airplane ever, being amazing, and getting shafted far harder than the real thing did.

>>
>>29901451
True that, I do find it funny how the F-35's development in Muv Luv Land is going so fast and well, despite it being Muv Luv. I guess just having to design a single plane/TSF helps.

To be honest, I like how Muv Luv handles the planes, I love all TSFs just as I love their real world counterparts.

>>29901405
Hey, Demonbane got in, and it's porn too.
>>
>>29901523
Yeah, but they used the anime version which has no porn, (though they do reference the VNs).

So Muv Luv will do the same, but at best they might reference Alt or something. The main triology will never get a real anime, too hard.

He chuckles lightly. "Looking for a rival maybe, Takato-sempai?" He asks with an air of teasing. "I heard the Russian over there is alright with bows, but the real challengers for you are Lisa, the Italian girl who is being hailed by her classmates to be one of the best riflewomen of our generation; and Patrick, the Irish long bowman. If you want to meet him, he is over there." Kyou points him out, the make having taken a bunk next to you and Kyou. "Justin the Russian, as he calls him self is also interested in testing you, but in a more friendly sense."

You nod, letting Kyou introduce you to the room in general. You know evaluations will start soon.

Let's meet Lisa first, and then chat with Patrick later. We're bunking next to each other so we'll have plenty of time to nerd out about archery.

Talk to her about archery and ask about rifles, try to gauge her interests, if she's a scholarly type or not, if she likes math and space, tell her about our own hobbies if she seems interested.

"It's Ta-ka-to. You can also call me Kato if that would be easier to remember." You tell him with a smile. "And yours is Justin right?"

He nods with a large grin. "Indeed it is. Proof that the Japanese are becoming decent at multiple languages. Mind, my mother was English, thus why my name is not stereotypically Russian. Arm wrestled my father for it." He said with a deep chuckle. "I will strive to remember your name, Takato. It is only right to do if you can remember mine so easily. It is not the Russian way to take shortcuts when making allies and friends."

Doesn't have to be so difficult, either. So, tell me about yourself, Justin. Where ya from?"

"She must be quite a woman to arm wrestle for the right to name you. Did you grow up in Russia or somewhere else?"

If he's from Russia ask him about Russia, and also ask him more about himself, if he asks tell him about ourself, our hobbies, what we do with our time and all that.

"Indeed! My father says she is more Russian then some Russians!" Justin said, laughing heartily.

"As for me, I play chess, though I would like to learn shogi if you know how to play. Beyond that, I am pretty normal. Some LARP here and there."

You share interests for a bit, finding out that he has a second hobby in pistol lore when Chrono finally calls for everyone to follow him.it is time for evaluations.

You are all led to a gym like room. You seem to remember something like this from a book about a post apocalyptic arena game.the big difference is all the scientific looking equipment and scientists. One of them lands over to peck Chrono on the cheek, causing him to squirm before she runs off. At this point the is a small shudder in the shop as it gets moving. You also see Kylie talking to someone else, which is always as good sign.

One of the scientists turns to the group at large. "Thank you all for coming on our little cruise and expedition. Today we will be testing proficiency with various weaponry, as well as gauge certain physical attributes which will be important to our tuning of training devices to your personal abilities as well as starting work on devices custom made for your own abilities. Please try out as many stations as you can so we can get the best analysis we can."

Headed over to the spear range, you heat one slightly awkwardly. Some of the crowd's eyes are on you, specifically those waiting in line. You take a deep breath, and do your best imitation of a javelin toss. You see it sail, and your mind starts working, seeing the math behind it all as it just hits the target. Taking up a second one, you take a moment, and Do The Math.

(Math Sync bonus can be applied to spear throwing now)

Taking a step, you release. While your form needs work, one cannot fault the accuracy as you land it dead center of the target. You hear Kyou and Kylie cheering as you heat the third. The formula is now set in mind as you give a perfect toss. The group goes quiet as the top pieces the second one dead center, splitting it as it drives dead center, a few sparks of static speaking off it as you move away. The maintenance team heads out to replace targets as you move to the next one.

Stepping forward to the archery range, you finally unsheath and string up your bow. Next to you is a girl with a long bow that is clearly her own. You watch her take a few shots, realizing this is Lisa. She smirks at you, her target showing a very tight grouping. You can't help but smile, feeling the need to show off.

Pulling up the first arrow, you fell the formula come to mind without a thought. The first arrow hits the ring just outside the bullseye. The second is strung, and you fell the energy course through you this time as you let it fly, the arrow deport embedding itself into the target.

The arrow suddenly angles downward, hitting the outer edge of the target from above. The crowd claps, and Lisa nods her head in respect as you unerring your yumi bow. Given how tired you feel, the course almost seems like a breeze, which is weird given that a lot of it was almost acrobatic. You see Kylie poss through with ease as well, Kyou having a little more trouble, and Toshiiro not choosing to do it today.

After a short rest, you are soon led to the class room. Seems it will soon be time for something a little different.

As you sit at a desk, everyone finishes funneling in. At researcher bows at the front, smiling a bit. "Before we go on, I wanted to give you a short primer on the two primary styles of magic currently in use." She said, a hologram appearing at each desk. On it was two different images,a circular diagram of a short and a more triangular one. "Here we have the classic Mid style magic circle, and the base for most Began styles, the triangular diagram. While both are very effective, you will find your self drawn to one, the other, or possibly both. That will be your natural affinity, and we will do what we can to assist and train you in the basics during our two week flight."

While the teacher slash researcher continues on about the founding about each style, you notice that while the Belkan style would be useful, the Mid style, which focuses on ranged attacks and binds, is more suited to your preferred range.

"If everyone could focus on your screens, we are going to take a bit of a test. Everyone will have a slightly different quiz based on your answers."

You blink at this. You thought magic here was scientific. Maybe there was something more to it? Turning back to the screen, you start the quiz...
