I'm hurt? Right, I guess it would look that way. "Not really, I was doing maintenance on this last night and missed a bolt when I was putting it all back together. Damn thing cacked out on me while I was out." You reply, knocking on your leg for emphasis.

"Are you sure?" She asks, she seems genuinely worried.

"I'm fine, my head just wasn't quite in the game when I was reassemlbing this is all. I'm just gonna fix this up real quick and come back."

"Okay" She says. She seemed satisfied with your excuse as she went back inside and closed the door behind her.

You hobble the rest of the way to your room.

Inside the room you search for your missing bolt. This doesn't take long, as it's sitting right there on the chair you were using as a workbench. "What a thing to miss... Am I sure that I'm fine? I may have a few bolts loose elsewhere."

You don't bother taking your leg off. You know where this thing goes, and it's fairly easy to access. Popping the cover off the inside of your knee joint, you get to work.

"So I've got enemies, huh?" You say to no one in particular. "It may be a good idea to keep moving, at least until I know how it is Zeshua found me..."

Okay, all done here. You give your limbs a much harder test than last time, doing a series of punches and kicks to make sure they don't fail. Then you do another quick search of the room, in case you missed another bolt.
You search turns up nothing, thankfully. So you organize your things and go next door.

Once there, you knock gently. "Still there Rose?" You say.

The door opens a bit, and you see Rose peeking through. "Hello." She says.

"Hey, can I come in?" You ask.

"Sure, it'll be another hour or so before anyone else is up though. So try to keep quiet."

"Okay." You say as you make your way into the room, being careful not to trip on anything. You are rather loud when you fall down, and there's an awful lot of stuff to trip on.

You walk in and decide to sit where you sat yesterday. Rose slithers over to the window and leans out, looking boredly into the dark over Hovum. You can vaguely see her forked tongue flitting about in a very snake-like manner.

"So..." You say, trying to catch her attention. It seems to work, as she turns her head to you. A look of mild curiosity on her face. "I don't suppose you know anything about this war that Oz was talking about, do you?"

Seeing that you want to talk, she slips down from the window and settles into her coils. "I've never actually seen it, and a lot of the stuff I know you'd be better off hearing from Oz or Savvi."

"Yeah, they seem to be veritable fonts of knowledge, those two..." You say, leaning back and rubbing your eyes.

You hear Rose giggle. "They've both done a lot of studying. Savvi is apparently one of the best Weavers there is, and Oz has the biggest 'librarium' you can find." She pauses. "According to them."

This time you laugh. "I suppose pride isn't just a human trait after all..." You trail off, you suppose that if she doesn't know about one... "What about the Corruption, is there anything you can tell me about that?"

She flinches a bit, coiling herself in more tightly. "No... No there isn't. I don't even know what they want with me... But if I didn't have Thorn..."

She looks incredibly uncomfortable all of a sudden...

I've a few questions for the Vicky.

How smart was it before the modification? Does it remember the time before?

What's the difference between Aether, Void and the third stuff we can load gun with? It seems like to be some sort of... element of environment. Is Earth aligned with Void? Are our fleshy bits? What about Crossroads?

And finally, how often can we jump? What does it cost us to jump? In case we needed to pull a hasty retreat like that very unfriendly wayknight.

"Tell you what." You say, pulling out one of your Calling crystals. "I'll give you..." You break it in half. "One of these." You toss one half to Rose, who fumbles a bit before catching it.

"What is this?" She asks, holding it up to her face to examine it. Again you can see her tongue flicking about.

"It's called a Calling Crystal. I'm fairly sure it's a bit more complex than this, but you just charge it with Aether and you can send me a message no matter where I am. Use it if you ever get into trouble, and I'll come running." You explain.

She looks from the crystal, to you, and back. "What if I'm more than one world away?"

"You mean on the Aether lines?" You ask. Rose nods. "I'm fairly certain that I don't need them. I've been using them, but that's moreso because I needed them to find worlds to travel to. Now that I've got some actual places to go, I can just... Go."

"Across the void, isn't that... Dangerous?" She tilts her head.

"Not for me, apparently. I suppose that has something to do with this." You say, pulling the KV off your back and showing Rose the Shield. "I guess it guards me from the Void."

She examines the shield for a moment before addressing you again. "I wouldn't let Oz see that. He'd probably want to... Examine it..." The look on her face says that would probably be a bad thing...

You nod, considering that you may have to start asking people if you can scan them...

"Do you know where it is?" She asks, looking slightly hopeful.

"Unfortunately not. I wish it were that easy. Then I could just scan myself and pop back home." But not without backup, or some heavy firepower; you add in your head.

"Oh... Right..." She says, the hope turning back into sadness.

"Tell you what though." You say, standing up and offering her your hand. "If I ever find it, you'll be the first to know. So long as you promise to let me know if you ever find Earth. Deal?"

Rose drops her hands, still shocked. Thorn pinches the bridge of her nose.

"'Tis an acceptable risk, Madam." You say, standing up and giving a light bow. Your performance is met with stunned silence.

The silence stretches until Savvi bursts out into laughter. "We may have to keep you alive after all!"

Rose still looks shocked.

Oz enters the room at this point. He looks confused for a second, before pointing at you and saying "You made a joke about Rose." Then he points to Savvi. "You played along." He points to Thorn. "You're mad because you aren't a morning person." Lastly, he points to Rose. "It was a bit lewd wasn't it?"

Everyone stares at Oz. "10 points" Savvi says. "How'd you guess?"

You punch the symbols onto your shield as they appear in your eye, and when you've finished you blade glows with gold light.

The grip, barrel and storage tank of your weapon are bathed in gold light. When the light fades it looks... pretty much the same... I suppose that was more of an internal change.

Once the upgrade finishes, it's a few more minutes before you your destination. Your arrival is heralded by your swords tip catching on something.

Pulled through the thin veil, you step out onto a new world. You're greeted by a rather ugly sight...

<What the hell is this place?

You're in a forest, or a jungle. It's somewhat hard to tell. The whole place looks... sick.

The trees and the ground have all been dyed a strange purple colour, similar to the rock Oz showed you.

Unlike the rock Oz showed you, the trees seem to be... pulsing. Where the bark cracks you can see veins of white energy.

To top it all off, the air seems full of a strange purple haze...

"So this is the corruption, huh?"

You go to take a closer look at one of the trees. It looks ugly. Strange tumor-like growths pockmark its outsides, cracking the bark open around them to reveal the white energy that seems to pump through it like a perverse mimicry of blood.

You then give it a good hard kick, knocking it a little ways off of you before getting your footing and slamming your sword right into what remains of its head. Needless to say, it goes down.

You turn to face the other two, now ready for a fight. You charge your weapon with Aether.

"And you fall into..." You trail off, leaving that sentence for him to finish.

"The wait and see group." He says, looking almost annoyed by your caution. "Trust me kid, it could definitely be worse."

"I will not ask how, as that's asking for trouble. But do go on."

"There's a prophecy, called the last prophecy." He pauses, trying to think of how to explain. "In the Milestone there's a great big tablet, on which all prophecy is written. We have been using this tablet to read the events of the universe pretty much since the beginning. But..." He seems, unwilling to continue.

"But?" You need to know this.

"We've reached the end of the tablet. There's only one prophecy left and we have now passed it."

"And that prophecy is?"

He sighs. "The Chosen Void Knight will fail. The universe as we know it will end."

"THAT'S the last prophecy? The end of the damn universe if the Void Knight fails?"

He holds up a hand. "If the CHOSEN Void Knight fails. That's why we want to wait and see." He stops for a second, considering you before continuing. "And why we've taken to calling you the Unchosen."

Well, the "universe as we know it" part might not be so horrible either. In fact it might be necessity in stopping the 'corruption', if for instance artificial bridges between planets strain the, aether or void or whatever it is the space between world is called. I'd say slashing significant portion of trade between worlds might qualify as end of universe for some.
